SPEAKER_06

What do you want? Dr. Durag didn't trust me with his antibiotics, so I had to hump it up here every day to get my meds. You know, less magnanimous man than I might just be thinking he could beat the ever-living snot out of you right now without fear of reprisal. You want a shot? Take it. Know that I left this camp out of shame for what I did to you. It was never my intention to return. Sorry. Fresh out of sweet forgiveness. It wasn't your intention to return, then why did you?

SPEAKER_02

Welcome everyone to this episode of Sass and Sips, where every week we will be discussing and dissecting an episode of Lost in Order. I'm Lisa.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm not Lisa. As you guys know by now.

SPEAKER_02

As you as you all can tell, this is very informal.

SPEAKER_01

I think they've gathered that thus far. We drink.

SPEAKER_02

And we have interruptions by children. Speaking of children, we have a guest this week. The only one who has the slightest hint of what they're doing here.

SPEAKER_01

Thank God someone does.

SPEAKER_02

Introduce yourself. I'm Nalinda. That's Nalinda, that's my daughter. And she is going to talk about this episode with us. And she is not drinking. Because she is underage.

SPEAKER_03

You don't know that.

SPEAKER_02

I know that. You were there. I sure was. So we're gonna read the synopsis and then we're gonna talk. Do you wanna read or do you want me to read?

SPEAKER_04

Day 16. The survivors are shocked as Hurley frantically explains that Ethan was not on the plane. Jack notices that Charlie and Claire are missing, prompting Locke and him to run for the beach where they were apparently heading. In the jungle, they find Claire's bag, along with scattered footprints indicating a struggle. Jack shouts for them, but Locke tells him to be quiet so as not to lose the element of surprise in their ensuing hunt. The pair starts following telltale markings left by Ethan. Locke discusses the concept of others on the island and suggests returning to camp and forming a search party. Jack disagrees and heads off along to the jungle.

SPEAKER_02

In the first flashback, in surgery, Jack struggles to save the life of a young woman. She goes into cardiac arrest and Jack uses a crash cart, but the woman is beyond saving. Despite being told to call it, Jack continues to try to resuscitate her. His father eventually intervenes, and Jack is extremely angry with him, telling him to call it himself. A nurse places a sheet over the dead woman as Christian scolds Jack for taking over his operation. Apparently, Christian had been called to surgery when the woman crashed while he was having lunch at a restaurant and asks Jack how he knew about the procedure. Jack replies that a nurse came and told him Christian's hands were shaking and had made a mistake during her initial surgery, cutting the patient's hepatic artery. The two argue as Christian defends his abilities. Jack asks his father how many drinks he had at lunch, causing him to stop talking.

SPEAKER_01

Didn't I say the first flashback and his father issues? I said something along these lines.

SPEAKER_02

You hit it on the nose.

SPEAKER_01

I am an expert on TV people.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna send you a cookie. Oh wait, brownie.

SPEAKER_01

Can can you send me ooh, send me brownie and bagels? Send me bagels. Just in case you guys don't know, I no longer live in New York. Send me bagels. If you want to show me you love me, bagels, bagels, and more bagels. And chocolate oranges.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. So as long as so as long as I have to like bribe you to continue the podcast. Yes. The bagel train stops.

SPEAKER_01

I will do the podcast as long as the bagel train keeps rolling into the station.

SPEAKER_02

Okie dokie. Hey everyone, Lisa here. I want to take a moment to tell you about this really cool travel backpack that I got. It's made by Muslim and it's so cool. As you know, Agnes and I are not in the same state. So we travel to see each other quite frequently. This backpack makes it so easy to do so. The bag has space for everything. When I fly, I don't like to check a bag. This makes it so easy for me to bring everything that I need with me on carry-on, including recording equipment. It has a space for everything. Trust me when I say that if you travel, even if it's just for a road trip, this bag is perfect for you. Go to muzzum.com now and use our promo code SASPOD for 20% off of your new bag. SPEAKER_04

At the caves, Locke quickly recruits Kate and Boone, despite Shannon's reservations, but refuses Michael and Walt when they offer their services. Heading out, the group soon catches up with Jack, who has been unknowingly running in circles. Locke wants Jack to go back, him being the only doctor on the island, but he refuses and the group and the group moves out. Back at the caves, Michael talks to Hurley about being left out of the main group. Walt joins the conversation, arguing that Locke can do so many things, so they should just trust his judgment. This is not well received by Mark by Michael, who leaves his son with Hurley and heads south to look for Claire and Charlie. Locke marks his sight his line of sight as Jack grows increasingly impatient. Jack wants to move immediately, but Locke needs time to find the trail and catches Baron. Kate questions Jack's mood and he admits that he never believed Claire's claims that someone was trying to hurt her. Locke suddenly shouts for Jack and shouts that he has found the L from the late finger bands Charlie Bears. Continuing through the jungle, they find the A pointing in one direction. But Locke also sees footprints heading off in another. Kate suggests that Ethan could be setting up a dummy trail. This causes everyone to question how she suddenly known so much about tracking. With no way of knowing which direction is the right one. Hold on.

SPEAKER_01

So I gotta say, Lisa, and uh this is the scene, this is the part of the show that I started having my doubts about Locke. I still love you, Terry, but I started like my heart was like, wait, what, wait, something's not right. But yes, we'll uh Yeah, what are you gonna say?

SPEAKER_02

No, I have a note um pointing out how Loc was undermining Jack.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because I think it my thing was like something's not right. Like I'm having my doubts about Locke's stability, and I was like, please let me be wrong, please let me be wrong. Oh god, if you guys haven't seen this episode yet, it's painful.

SPEAKER_02

Um, but the fact that he undermines Jack kind of had similarities to the way Jack's father is always undermining him.

SPEAKER_01

Ah, I didn't see that. I didn't notice that. We took it to two different levels, and you know both levels are right.

SPEAKER_02

Hold on, I hear a child that's gonna be a little bit more.

SPEAKER_01

The child should be in sight classes.

SPEAKER_02

Do you remember where you stopped reading? Yeah, because you gotta kinda look and catch the cues.

SPEAKER_04

With no way of knowing which direction is the right one, the group splits with Luck leading Boone and Kate, tracking with Jack. Back at the cave, Sawyer hears about the mission from Walt and suggests that Ethan might have simply lied about his name for the manifest. Walt says that it's stupid to lie about your name. Sawyer chuckles and asks Walt for his opinion. Walt thinks other people might live on the island, and this supports his claims with Said's comments about hearing whispers in the jungle. The news that Saeed has returned causes Sawyer to take notice. Locke and Boone move on their path. Boone comments comments how on Star Trek the red shirts always got killed. He asks Locke what he did in the real world. Locke says he worked at a box company, but Boone does not believe him. On the other path, Kate tells Jack to slow down. She explains that she learned to track from her father, an ex-soldier in the army with whom she used to hike and track a deer.

SPEAKER_02

We got a little information about Locke. We learned from the last episode. He lived most of his life in Tuston, California. And he works at a box company. Let's talk about this scene with Locke and Boone.

SPEAKER_00

Never watch Star Trek? Not really. The crew guys? Shall we go down to the planet with the main guys? Captain and 20 years ago. They always wore red shirts. And they always got killed. What do you do in the real world, Mr. Like? John. John? What did you guess? Regional collection supervisor for a box company. A box company?

SPEAKER_06

I mean boxes. Yeah, right.

SPEAKER_02

I think I just think it's funny because I I think a box, a collection supervisor at a box company is kind of the last thing that you would think of seeing his behavior. But then again, when you look back on his episode and you just see it's very mundane, it kind of makes sense. But it's funny that Boom is a good one.

SPEAKER_01

I think because we know, so it makes sense. Because we know. I like the fact that it's funny when Boom's like, yeah, right. He's like, that's like in his mind, he's seeing him like every double seven kind of that's you know and then yeah, just go with that.

SPEAKER_02

And then the later scene, Locke is like, it's gonna rain in one minute, give or take a few seconds. And he's right.

SPEAKER_04

And Boone is like, he's like, Jenna protects who has had a box company.

SPEAKER_01

But if you think about it, we know when it's gonna rain. Like, you know, because first of all, he hasn't like for whatever reason he can walk all of a sudden, but only he has some kind of injury, and then two, because you can feel that in your bones. So he's probably gonna two, you ever smell a thunderstorm before the before it's gonna come if you can smell the ozone. He's but you can't. This one is my man.

SPEAKER_04

You can tell, like you can see like clouds rolling in, but you can't pinpoint the exact time.

SPEAKER_02

Well, maybe not to the minute, but you can smell it. You can tell that it's gonna even feel it.

SPEAKER_01

You can you can never say none can say, oh, it's gonna be a minute to be like it's gonna start pouring any second now. You know, it's like that smell of oh, it's gonna be like, oh, it's gonna pour, get in the house now, and then boom. And then I think if we think about it, you probably can tell when it's gonna rain, like, oh, it's gonna rain. Come out to no comment. Because it could be a comedy to me, like, oh, it's not gonna rain yet. Although you're like, oh shit. But this is the episode where my heart gets kind of broken. Because Luck's abilities come into question a little bit.

SPEAKER_02

Why why do you feel that way? Um what makes you question his abilities? He predicted the winner.

SPEAKER_01

I ended up saying that he's I don't think he's been lucky the whole thus far. I think he has some skills, but he's not the super hunter that people are assuming he is percent. Are you?

SPEAKER_02

Like he is still. Are you referring to the fact that the trails diverged and he picked the wrong one?

SPEAKER_01

Not so that because it happens. It's more of his you can see the doubt in his own face. That is what triggered me. Like he's still talking, but you he's the look in his face, he's he's doubting himself.

SPEAKER_02

So, like, no, okay, not you, Locke, no. I have something for that when we get to the end.

SPEAKER_01

That's what she said.

SPEAKER_02

All right, Michael Scott.

SPEAKER_01

Listen, I've seen a few episodes, okay? All right.

SPEAKER_02

The one where Stanley has the heart attack, it's like one of the funniest episodes in the whole show. Where they get the guy to come the girl to come in and do CPR. T she's just I'm gonna send you the episode.

SPEAKER_01

You're not making me watch any more shows I don't want to watch.

SPEAKER_02

It's a half hour. 22 minutes. You can do it.

SPEAKER_01

No, you're not making me. If you may be watching something else I don't want to watch, or the bribing me more food. Okay, fine. Cannolis and rainbow cookies for Montalinis. And lots of food.

SPEAKER_02

Food.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, flashback time.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. The next day in a flashback, Jack is called to Christian's office. His father has written up the report for the dead woman, which states the patient's death was unavoidable. Jack, however, argues that his father was impaired. But Christian points out Jack is listed as the surgeon on record. If Jack can test the report, Christian could lose his license, but Jack does not seem to care. Christian manages to change his son's mind by convincing him his job is his life and by giving Jack a long overdue apology for treating him so harshly when he was growing up. In the end, Jack signs the document, much to Christian's relief.

SPEAKER_04

At the cave, Said awakens to see Sawyer standing over him. Sawyer threatened Said but stops himself from carrying out his revenge when he hears about the French woman and her claims of others on the island. The mention of the whispering intrigues Sawyer. Deciding not to retaliate, Sawyer leaves, mentioning as he goes that he kept the signal fire burning while Said was away. Meanwhile, at the beach, Walt defeats Hurley at Batgammon again, managing to correctly roll required numbers several times. Walt accidentally reveals that he had another father, and Hurley soon leaves, but not before Walt reminds him that he owes him $20,000.

SPEAKER_02

Let's talk about this.

SPEAKER_01

What should we just talk about? What are we discussing?

SPEAKER_02

First of all, I don't know how to play Batgammon.

SPEAKER_01

Neither do I. I yeah, it's it's it's something that I can't it eludes me.

SPEAKER_02

So dice, the roll. But get stuff. But every time Walt rolled, he got the number that he needed.

SPEAKER_01

What are the odds? I'm sure there's some mathematicians out there that can tell me the odds. And if I remember some high school math, I could probably figure it out. But yeah, that's not happening anymore.

SPEAKER_02

We need to ask Sae the odds. He's the one who knows math.

SPEAKER_01

My brain is pickled.

SPEAKER_02

And Hurley tells him.

SPEAKER_01

He's a warrior.

SPEAKER_02

Hurley tells him that he's good at backgammon.

SPEAKER_01

He ranked 17.

SPEAKER_02

We learn that Walt had another dad, Brian. So we kind of we get a little tidbit of of his life. And Hurley says Hurley owes him 20 grand and says he'll get it.

SPEAKER_01

I thought that was cute.

SPEAKER_02

You'll get it, dude.

SPEAKER_04

Still searching, Locke follows a gut instinct trying to find Claire and Charlie. Boone talks about his life, working as part of his mother's wedding firm. Locke suggests Boone head back, but the young man refuses. As the rain starts to fall, both teams carry on. Jack and Kate stumble on the T from Charlie's bands, and Jack hears a distinct, a distant scream. Though Kate does not hear it, Jack climbs up a small hill in the pouring rain. He slips and tumbles back to the ground below. Pulling himself together, he sees Ethan standing over him. Ethan threatens to kill one of his prisoners if Jack keeps following him. They fight, but Ethan easily overpowers the doctor and knocks him out. A few minutes later, Jack regains consciousness with Kate at his side. Kate tells him to sit, but Jack says he will not let Ethan do this. Not again, and runs after him.

SPEAKER_02

Do you think Jack imagined that scene with Ethan? Or do you think it really happened?

SPEAKER_01

Which scene?

SPEAKER_02

When Jack is looking for Charlie and they're climbing up that hill kind of thing.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, wait, that that that scene. Duh, fuck. My brain shut down for half a second.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and Kate is magically not there. So when and Jack falls when he wakes up and Ethan is there.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

And Ethan gets to sleep in there.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. I honestly don't know. I was like, wait, what? No, because I could have sworn. I'm like, yeah, it happened. I can see it totally happening. But then like, what's taking Kate so long? I'm thinking as he's getting his ass kicked. I'm like, where's Kate? Shouldn't she be here by now?

SPEAKER_02

Right? Because she just never acknowledges any of it.

SPEAKER_01

Right. So I'm like, what the hell? So maybe it didn't happen. Or, considering this is the magical island of polar bears, it is quite possible it actually happened. But didn't happen, but really happened.

SPEAKER_02

What do you think? You think it happened or didn't happen?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, which?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That's not an end. Yes. Yes. It happened? Yes. Yes. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I think there's some kind of time lapse or something. I think it actually happened. And but it was a kind of magical lost island time lapse of something happened. I don't know. It happened, but didn't happen, but it really did happen. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

SPEAKER_02

We go back to a flashback. Later, as Jack walks down a hallway in the hospital, he sees his father talking to a man. A nurse tells Jack that's her husband and he is threatening to sue. Christian comforts the man as he sobs. Christian puts a hand on the man's shoulder in exactly the same way he had comforted Jack during his apology the day before. Jack quietly scenes when seeing this display and realizes his father's apology the day before was not sincere. At a board hearing, Christian justifies his position and recites his testimony of the events. He concludes that the damage the woman had incurred was beyond medical help. The board members thank Christian and apologize for the procedure. But Jack is suddenly startled as an official adds, And you were aware that the patient was pregnant? To his astonishment, Christian confirms this and Jack realized that he has been deceived. Just as the hearing is adjourning, Jack says that he must revise his statement. He reveals his father was intoxicated while working, and in his professional opinion, this led to the patient's death.

SPEAKER_01

I have a question. Yeah. Wouldn't it be kind of clear if they went to check the artery being nicked in surgery as opposed to being damaged in the accident? They look totally different.

SPEAKER_02

But I I would imagine only if the if somebody performed an autopsy. Because if she came in with those kind of injuries, like traumatic injuries from a car crash, it's very likely that she could have succumbed to her injuries.

SPEAKER_01

But since they've already questioning him, you know what I mean? If it's something so clear-cut, they wouldn't be questioning him. I think it's like, you know.

SPEAKER_02

I I don't know much about um maybe somebody out there, if you know, maybe you can help clear us up. I assume that whenever a patient dies on the operating table, the hospital just has a due diligence to look into it to have basically CYA.

SPEAKER_01

But they also have a what is called an I don't know, an MM, a morbid mentality comp like what went wrong, what could be done better? And normally they have like autopsies to go with it, like what happened, along with operation notes and whatever that goes with it. So I think they missed a step in this particular in this writing. But that's just me. Because I mean it's easy to find if you're gonna question a democracy if you get to the point where you want to question what happened, part of it isn't examining the body, and then you know, you know, you just I'm like, okay, what happened? Let's not examine the body, this is my now what happened, this and ask the doctor what happened, and not examine the body seems like it's a little it's a whole lot of bullshit to me.

SPEAKER_02

But anyway, I'm just my little expert expert opinion. I mean, I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Um I don't know either.

SPEAKER_02

It could be what you said, and it could just be for TV's sake. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I mean they wa he was Funce like their superstar surgeon, so it's probably a really bullshit investigation. As you know, it's all politics. I'm way too literal with this damn TV show. I think I've reached my limit of sips to take today.

SPEAKER_02

In this episode, we learn what caused the rift between Jack and his father, and what Jack did. I think it's safe to ask. Do you agree with what Jack did?

SPEAKER_01

As a doctor, absolutely. As a child, that's a hard one to go by. That's hard. I I just it's that's there's no I don't think in the situation there is no right or wrong answer.

SPEAKER_04

Alright.

SPEAKER_01

Lelinda, what do you think?

SPEAKER_04

Well about if what he did was right. The right thing, yeah. Yeah. I mean, like, if it's your parent or not, if that if that was me, you would write me out? Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

In a heartbeat.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Same thing with that.

SPEAKER_02

When I rob a bank, I'm not taking her.

SPEAKER_04

But same but same thing with that. Like if he if that happened and he was uh under the influence while performing uh on somebody, which led to their death, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I totally understand his hesitance at the very end. He's like, ah, I can't, like, I can I get it. A parent and child relationship in the best relationship, best position, no one wants to be in. As a doctor, it's easy to say absolutely, but it's just like I uh you know, you know what I mean? Like, what do you do?

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. I I wouldn't even know. Honestly, I don't know. But I do think that Jack recognized that it was it was a pattern. And may we don't know if somebody else had died or but I think that Jack recognized that his father has a problem.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

And this might have been the way the only way to yeah, no, totally get it. For for for right or for wrong. That was his way of helping.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely. I like that's this is one situation where I don't see him as a bad person. I see him as a person in a really fucked up position. And you try to make the best decision you can. And I'm saying that as a mother and as a child, I it's uh yeah. Them the breaks, dogs.

SPEAKER_04

Moments later, they find the final letter, E. Only to see that it is on Charlie's hand and that he has been hanging from a tree by his neck. As Dra as Jack grabs him, Kate manages to cut him down, and Kate holds Charlie's hand as the doctor begins CPR. Kate begins to cry as after many moments there is still no response from Charlie. While Jack continues to pat on Charlie's chest, Kate tries to get Jack to stop. Which he does, before once again continuing, refusing to give up. This time Charlie wakes up coughing as Jack and Kate cry with happiness. Back at the cave, Walt comments that Charlie had not spoken since Jack and Kate brought him back. Charlie sits silently. Jack promises to go back out for Claire the moment the sun comes up. And Charlie coolly says that he does not remember anything. He ominously adds they were after Claire all along. Meanwhile, a word channel approaches Kate, telling her Loc and Boone have not returned yet. Out in the jungle, Boone concludes they are lost. He says he wants to go back, and when Locke tosses him a flashlight, he fails to catch it. As it hits the ground, they hear a metallic clank, and Loc says it is something made of steel. Part of the plane? Boone asks. But Loc seems to think otherwise. The two began to unearth a structure beneath the earth.

SPEAKER_01

What do you think they found? Before you watched it. Like when your very first time you saw it, what did you think?

SPEAKER_02

I had no I had no clue. But you mentioned that you feel like Locke lost his way a little bit here. Yes. And I feel like it's the opposite. Interesting. As they were walking, Locke mentions to Boone that the trail went cold, something like a quarter mile back. Right. But he's still saying, Can't you feel it in your gut? Locke is walking with a purpose.

SPEAKER_01

Interesting. That's the interesting point. I see your point. And even towards the end, I don't honestly, I don't even know if he was actually following Charlie or his gut was following this box. Right.

SPEAKER_02

I was just gonna say that he might he might have realized that Kate could track and let them go on purpose. We learn a little more about Kate.

SPEAKER_01

And you already know, we already know now that his there's something special between him and his island. Yeah. Like no one else is magically changed.

SPEAKER_02

And and at the end, right before Boone decides that he's gonna turn around and go back, Locke is like, Can't you feel it? And they were standing there right before he threw him the flashlight.

SPEAKER_01

Ah, see, thank you for renewing my hope in my man Loc.

SPEAKER_02

You're welcome.

SPEAKER_01

I feel better now. Love you, Terry.

SPEAKER_02

I could be full of shit.

SPEAKER_01

I hate when you do that.

SPEAKER_02

I know.

SPEAKER_01

I still love that's still my man Locke. Okay. And listen, look now if he turns out to be a totally psycho bad guy. I swear to god, I'm never watching the show again and I'm ending our friendship.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. We learn that Kate can track, and sh her dad is in the military, so we learn just allegedly. Just a teeny piece of Kate's actual family. The bigger picture of because all we really know about her is that she's on the run. We don't know what she did, we don't know why, but we do learn that her dad is in the military.

SPEAKER_01

Even before the military thing, the fact that she could track wasn't too much of a surprise. Because people who want to run, you end up at the like the you know, picking up things.

SPEAKER_02

And Jack gave a lot of shit about that. Huh? Jack gave her a lot of shit about that. He was like, where did you learn how to track when you were on the run?

SPEAKER_01

I know, you gotta piss me off. Self-sacrimonious.

SPEAKER_02

And that's when she tells him no that she learned with her dad.

SPEAKER_01

He was a real dick though. He's been a real dick with her. And we'll see the next episode that he was on the show.

SPEAKER_02

The next episode that you haven't supposed to that you you weren't supposed to have watched.

SPEAKER_01

I skipped. Leave me alone. Um you wore me into the show, didn't you?

SPEAKER_02

I know. Well, you got it. Alright, but Jesus, just let's let's watch, record, watch, record. We could do this all day.

SPEAKER_01

Um he acts like like every time he brings it up, he acts like he just found out.

SPEAKER_02

He acts like she owes him something. She don't owe you shit.

SPEAKER_01

You owe you I owe you what you get, Mofo. Shit.

SPEAKER_02

He doesn't know her. They just they just met 16 days ago. Her history has nothing to do with him.

SPEAKER_01

Nothing to do with the here and now.

SPEAKER_02

Or that.

SPEAKER_01

Here, now, that, then who? Suck it up, cupcake, and move on. He's like his feelings are hurt.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Big baby.

SPEAKER_02

I've watched the whole entire thing. I know whatever. But there's something about the rawness of that scene where I feel even if I watch it right now and I know he's gonna live, I'm still like, oh my god, is Charlie gonna die?

SPEAKER_01

So maybe I'm evil, because that didn't affect me that way. I was like, okay, that song will kill people off already, okay? It did it. I don't. There's some like where we talked about previous uh like shows about like that painful death of a character. This wasn't one for me. I like Charlie, but it didn't do it for me.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know if it if it did it for me in the sense of if he died. I think it was more so the emotion in the scene. The way it was the word like the the flip side? Like the way it juxta juxtaposed juxtaposed juxtaposed okay. Yes. The way that scene juxtaposed the scene with Jack in the ER, how he couldn't save that woman.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

And he just wouldn't give up. And Kate is crying, and she's emotional, and she just wants him to stop because she realizes that Charlie is laying there dead, and the longer Jack beats on him, the more drawn out it is for her. And Jack gives up, and you just have this moment where they're just sad, and then he just like nope, not giving up. And he just pounds on him, and it's like you think it's all for nothing. You just think that's it. Like he's just it's like when he beat the hell out of the coffin. It's just him and his frustration and the fact that he couldn't save him. But then Charlie comes back to life.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I didn't feel that. I mean, no, I understood all of that, and I was like, okay, yeah, I just was it didn't touch me. I'm going to hell. I know, I'm evil. It made for great TV, but I wasn't emotion I didn't feel I under I felt all you did, uh everything you said, but intellectually, I you know, it wasn't emotional for me at all. It was just like, okay. Interesting. Very interesting. If I had a mustache, I would have been twisting the sides of them.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Okay. Nelinda, how did that scene make you feel? I almost cried. See I'm not quote. See, I'm not the only one. I'm not the only one feeling.

SPEAKER_04

Wait, are you telling me you didn't cry? Or feel an emotion?

SPEAKER_01

I felt no emotion. I'm a cold-hearted bitch.

SPEAKER_02

As we all just stand here and shrug our shoulders, I think we're all like sit whatever. No. Okay. You wanna read the trivia?

SPEAKER_01

Sure. She sounds so excited about it. She's thrilled.

SPEAKER_04

This episode marks the first time a character has a second episode, excluding the pilot, devoted to them. Jack also had flashbacks in the episode White Rabbit.

SPEAKER_01

Interesting. I kinda knew that was gonna come up when they start talking of, you know, I kinda knew that that was gonna be brought up.

SPEAKER_04

I thought it was gonna be a Sawyer episode just because like Cowboy. Yeah. Usually the name of the episode gives it away. What's the name of this title again? All the best cowboys have daddy issues.

SPEAKER_01

So are they are they saying that Jack is a cowboy? I you know, usually the title is a fingrative, not a literal, but like I don't see it.

SPEAKER_02

Usually the titles have a lot to do with the episode. And there's usually a double meaning, like the upfront meaning and then the hidden meaning.

SPEAKER_01

Right, I see that. But the last one. The last one.

SPEAKER_02

And clearly he has daddy issues, but I don't know what makes him a cowboy.

SPEAKER_01

Right, it's kind of a stretch. Like he's a cowboy and he's just gonna off-handled about going against his what his father said. Like he's I think what makes him a cowboy in this the in the figurative sense is that he he's gonna do what he thinks is right, regardless of what everyone else thinks, or in this case what his father may think. And I think maybe that's what it is, but it seems like a stretch.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So I think this is a title fail.

SPEAKER_02

If you out there listening have thoughts on what the title means, send them in to us. Contact info in the show notes. Please help us.

SPEAKER_01

Right. We're in desperate need of some four of yours. Sober thoughts. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Alright, read the next one.

SPEAKER_04

A trail of letters that were taped to Charlie's left hand is left as a clue that the search party uses to follow him.

SPEAKER_02

So I I read something online that when he changed fate to late, it was because Claire was pregnant, so she was late. I think that's stupid. I don't know if that's true. Um, you don't even need to respond.

SPEAKER_01

Like Yeah, that's like okay.

SPEAKER_02

With the mustache. Alright.

SPEAKER_04

When Jack is trying to revive Charlie, he hits him in the chest 23 times. After seeming to give up, he begins hitting Charlie again and hits him nine more times before Charlie regains his breath.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so that trivia. Just one question regarding who wrote whoever put that trivia out there.

SPEAKER_05

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_01

Why? It seems like it just, you're like, okay, does 23 or 32 mean something? What's the point of the trivia?

SPEAKER_02

Okay, that that's for a later date. The rep like there's part of that that's for a later date.

SPEAKER_01

Another back burner, my stove's a getting full here. We'll get you listening to another stove.

SPEAKER_02

If you're listening out there and you have an extra stove, please send it to Agnes.

SPEAKER_01

You're killing me, Smalls.

SPEAKER_02

Last one.

SPEAKER_04

Jack and Christian's Hospital, Saint Sebastian, is featured for the first time. It would be a prominent off-island location. This episode is ready TV. T V. No, it's just there. That's probably the most interesting piece of studio. What the heck is the V supposed to stand for?

SPEAKER_02

Violence.

SPEAKER_01

Violence. Oh.

SPEAKER_02

Let's do characters. No, let's not do characters. Let's talk about characters. You know, I'll I'll get it eventually. We can go back to doing characters when it's a sawyer episode.

SPEAKER_01

We are not rated G. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Alright, let's talk about characters. Let's talk about Jack. After seeing this episode and getting more information on his daddy issues, thoughts?

SPEAKER_01

Obviously, I think his father made him like belittled him and made him feel less than. And he's I think him being stuck in this island as the martyrdom leader of the island. I think he um I think he's lacking a little bit of muscle, especially when it comes to Kate. A little sex emotion, little bit of uh power chip going on there, but I don't think it's conscious. I think I think it's a subconscious power chip he's on.

SPEAKER_02

Speaking of Kate, we have a Kate episode next. Do we? I did not know this. We said it before. She's being sarcastic. Oh she's being a bitch.

SPEAKER_04

I wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't being sarcastic.

SPEAKER_01

Are you trying to say that gets shit? Because I do.

SPEAKER_02

She has her hood all the way over her face like Kenny from South Park, and she wonders why she's- Oh my god!

SPEAKER_01

Who killed Kenny?

SPEAKER_02

Me.

SPEAKER_01

I am Kenny.

SPEAKER_02

Let's talk about Kate.

SPEAKER_01

Let's talk about sex, baby. Let's talk about you and me.

SPEAKER_02

Let's talk about all the good things and the bad things that maybe.

SPEAKER_01

This child right here is mouthing the words. I'm so proud of you.

SPEAKER_02

You're proud of me, right? Because without me, she wouldn't know.

SPEAKER_01

And it's funny, I was in the car with my daughter. Oh my gosh, it must have been like four years ago. And a Run DMC song comes on, and I'm singing the hook, and then all of a sudden at the left field, my kid comes in with like the verse. I was like, that's my kid. I am so proud of her. That was a mother-daughter moment.

SPEAKER_02

She wants to know which song, and you're ignoring her.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, what song was it? Wait, what song was it? It was. Oh my god, it's on the tip of my tongue. I can't, you know, you you that was the one she was.

SPEAKER_02

She's hoping that it's tricky.

SPEAKER_01

It's tricky, yes. That's it.

unknown

That's what it was.

SPEAKER_01

It was tricky. Because it's like on the tip of my brain. I couldn't get it out. It was tricky. Oh wrap, that's right. So yes, I was kind of proud of that moment. I feel like I did that was like I was like mothering s like life goals right there. Like I did the damn thing.

SPEAKER_02

Huh? She's singing it right now.

SPEAKER_01

So proud of you. Lisa, you're doing a good job as the mom.

SPEAKER_04

No, that wasn't her.

SPEAKER_01

That was me.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. That one was me. The other one was her.

SPEAKER_02

Okie dokie.

SPEAKER_01

And another moment. I'm sorry. Another like old school moment. What was I listened to? I Swear by Awful One. And my daughter goes, that's a really pretty song. She goes, Are they still alive? I just looked at her like, get out. Just get out of the car. Walk home. Back to Kate. I'm sorry. Jack. We can't get it together.

SPEAKER_02

Jack. Kate. We're up to Jack. Jack. We did Jack already. We did Jack already. Talk about Kate. What? You want to talk about Jack? Yeah. Alright, so talk about Jack.

SPEAKER_04

Jack's stubborn.

SPEAKER_03

Isn't he though?

SPEAKER_04

And he's me and he's rude to Kate. And he's a man baby. Later. I'm not gonna talk about later, but in in later episodes. Your face. It just adds more and more to why I don't like Jack. See, I'm the only one.

SPEAKER_02

Like why he's quite logical, I don't like him. No, there's just there is something about Jack that just you the wrong way. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It just Like I do to a lot of people, I'm sure.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, now I'm gonna go. Thank you. Who wants to go first?

SPEAKER_01

I nominate Linda goes first.

unknown

Dang it.

SPEAKER_01

Uh I'm neutral about her. I don't really care. Okay. I'm not the only one that's really neutral about these people. I see, you make me feel like I was anti-lost. No, I wasn't anti-lost. The characters are hard to really become invested in. And Kate, she's interesting enough. We're chill, we're cool. When do we hear about the Hurley story?

SPEAKER_02

We're not gonna get to his until one like seven more. Stay tuned next week when we will be discussing hard no.

SPEAKER_03

No. Oh. Try again.

SPEAKER_02

Whatever the case may be. That one.

SPEAKER_03

Thanks, November.

SPEAKER_04

Listen, we were just talking about it. Still the only one who knows what they're doing. Yeah, thanks for that. Only because you're the sober one.

unknown

But I Yes.

SPEAKER_02

SPEAKER_02

She's singing the Skype song.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna be taco. I'm gonna get taco drunk tomorrow. Tacos are good for every day of the week and twice on Tuesdays.

SPEAKER_04

They taste better on Tuesdays.

SPEAKER_01

Tacos are the bomb diggity every day, all day. Is that gizmo? Yeah, jingling. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Jingling, baby.

SPEAKER_01

Go ahead, baby. There's somewhere out there that there's an entire aged group or generation that finds me funny. I don't know who they are.

SPEAKER_02

No, it's right here.

SPEAKER_01

You hear that? Every time you said zasquat, I feel like it was a saxquad.
