Hi, and welcome to this episode of Assassin's Sips. We are your hosts. I'm Lisa.
SPEAKER_00I'm Brittany.
SPEAKER_05And this is episode four, The Mistress. And you are listening to the podcast where we drink and dish about clickbait. What are you drinking tonight?
SPEAKER_00Tonight is a work night. I'm drinking water.
SPEAKER_05Sacramento.
SPEAKER_00I know. But you know what? It's pre-wine. It's pre-wine. It's Jesus' pre-wine.
SPEAKER_05It just hasn't been turned to wine yet. So okay. I'll let you get away with it. I actually have some Shiraz, my yellow tail. Some Dwimmer Red tonight. Last time we did Golden Girls Mad Libs, and one of our listeners sent an email with like a bunch of words.
SPEAKER_00So that's why I don't struggle.
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_00I was telling Lisa today at work. I was talking with the student about what a pronoun is. And for some reason I completely forgot what it was. Relearned it. And Lisa's like, in today's society, how do you not know what a pronoun is? And I'm like, what the fuck? I do know what that is.
SPEAKER_05This is just sad. It's okay. Sometimes like we we just get so like hyper focused that we don't think outside the box.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05It's it is what it is. But um, yeah, so I use some of these words that were sent uh to fill in what I could. So you're not completely off the hook. I'm gonna need a few more from you.
SPEAKER_00Try my hardest, and then we'll just you know edit out the rest of it. Well, and now all like the um shit. I should know this. Me saying the wrong words, and we said like that's the verb, Brittany.
SPEAKER_05We're gonna leave that all in. Yeah, okay. So is it's actually not that many that I need from you. Do you want to know the title? Yes, Roses Spearhoven Crispies.
SPEAKER_04She's such a doll.
SPEAKER_05I know, I know. Speaking of doll.
SPEAKER_00Wow, look at that transition.
SPEAKER_05Sino. That is going the doll is going to refer to a Patreon bonus, but we'll tell you more about that later.
SPEAKER_06All right, I need I need a liquid.
SPEAKER_01It's been a rough week.
SPEAKER_00We'll go with PDLite.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00Which when I switch to wine tonight, that will be my drink of choice in the morning.
SPEAKER_06Okay. Food.
SPEAKER_00Juna.
SPEAKER_04Number.
SPEAKER_00We'll go with 40 again.
SPEAKER_05Okay. A part of the body.
SPEAKER_01The weenus.
SPEAKER_05That's not part of the body. That's something Chandler does at work.
SPEAKER_00I love that. Oh my god, I love Fred so much.
SPEAKER_04Me too.
SPEAKER_00Um, a part of the body. Um, we'll do the pinky toe.
SPEAKER_04Very specific. Very uh another food.
SPEAKER_00Now that I know the title, oh, the filter fish.
SPEAKER_03I don't even know how to spell that.
SPEAKER_00I wish I knew. But that shit is nasty looking. That shit is nasty tasting. I don't know who wants to. It looks like a really fuzzy ass fish. I know.
SPEAKER_05You see it in the supermarket, and it's it's not my style, I'll say but then it's like I don't even know.
SPEAKER_00On the holidays, my dad's like, okay, on a piece of toast, and I'm like, oh yeah, not for me. Um but that's something Rose would be like, yeah, it's amazing, and yeah, St. Olaf.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, back in St. Olaf. Um, adjective. You're not completely off the hook.
SPEAKER_00Here we go. Um, let's say fuzzy.
SPEAKER_05Fuzzy. Okay. Ready? Can't sleep. Perhaps it's time to make a goofy batch of spearhoven crispies direct from Rose's titties.
unknownThere we go.
SPEAKER_05An ancient Scandinavian midnight blood rage, perfect for the hungriest of Vikings after a night of pillaging. They go willingly with a hot cup of pediolite. Now, Baker be warned, the smell of these skinny women can be worse than a dirty garbage can full of fierce fish heads and moldy tuna. When they're baking in your oven and you can't stand the deep smell of them anymore, you know they're done. Carefully remove the tray from the oven and let those alluring delicacies cool for 40 minutes. Then hold your pinky toe with one hand and pop a crispy in your mouth with the other. They taste simply magical, like cheesecake, chocolate, gefelta fish, and ungodly strawberries.
SPEAKER_00Which is like every strawberry after a day. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05These Saint Olaf classics are sure to put you to sleep with a detective on your face. I think that's Blanche's dream. Oh, right. And a fuzzy stomach. Uh, after that, gefellafish, I think you will have a fuzzy stomach. Oh my god, that was funny, though.
SPEAKER_02This is so cute.
SPEAKER_04I know, I love them.
SPEAKER_05Well, speaking of detective, oh yeah, episode four, the mistress.
SPEAKER_00Which the detectives like featured in it once, and I feel like yeah, actually twice, it's the same scene.
SPEAKER_05Same scene, right?
SPEAKER_00But I feel like it's a little important to mention him later. But anyway, what were you gonna say?
SPEAKER_05No, I was just gonna say how after you watch this episode, you you text me like, oh my god.
SPEAKER_00It was just the whole character arc that we saw Emma go through, like how she felt in the beginning, which like the first scene was um like a flash forward. Um, but like still, she was still in the same frame of mind that she was in like the actual beginning of like her character arc throughout the episode, and then where she is in the end. I'm just like I'm amazed. I don't like we'll talk about like how I feel about her as a um as a suspect, like later. But I was just really impressed. I don't think she was like the best actress, but I think she did an amazing job in this episode. Okay, yeah, where do we start?
SPEAKER_05Well, when the episode opens, it's Emma being questioned in the interrogation room by Roshan, and she tells him that they were in love, that they were soulmates, and he asks her if she knows who would do this, and then basically before she could even answer, it cuts out, and then obviously, then it cuts into a flashback scene because we see her and Nick slash Danny waking up together, and he's like making her coffee and he's being all sweet, and like you can hear the shower running, and like he's in the shower and she's just like looking around, and then he's like, Um, how's the coffee?
SPEAKER_00And she's like, It's great, and so she then she looks over, and like we don't even know that like he's calling himself Danny at this point. Well, we do because she said in the last episode, but like she kind of looks to like her side and she's like, Do you have to go now, Danny? And I'm like, Who? His name's Nick, and he's like, You know what I have to do, or something like some dumb Nick shit.
SPEAKER_05Some dumb nick shit, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then you like you full-on see him kiss another woman, which like we know that that happened, right?
SPEAKER_05It's just kind of weird, and it's because up until this point, he's painted as this like dorky family man, like just as much of a square as Sophie, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then it's like, oh shit, look, he had a uh you know, like this this other life, yeah, this like whole double life, just so weird, and then it's just it goes through like the next scene right after that is showing like Emma, and like this is her character, this is who she is, and this scene I felt like was supposed like really supposed to go in like a way that would portray her as being like a horrible person.
SPEAKER_05Wait, wait, wait, which scene?
SPEAKER_00Where it goes right next when she's in her office at work, because as soon as like they kiss, it goes right into like her in the office, right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, she works for a health insurance company, mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00And so she has a coin in front of her that's saying like my wife's like health coverage isn't being covered because like she was originally diagnosed with headaches, but like then they found out it was a brain tumor, and she's saying that um oh that it's a pre-existing condition, yeah. And the guy's like a headache is a pre-existing condition, that she can't be treated for like her tumor and her brain, like oh my god. And so being that we know that she's a mistress, they're already calling her a mistress. We know that she just showed up and she was following Sophie in the last episode. We really didn't get like that much of a feel for her. I thought that we were gonna be portrayed that like, or she was going to be portrayed to us as being this person that's like, Well, fuck you, guy, like fuck you and your wife with the brain tumors, right?
SPEAKER_05Like so callous.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I really thought she was gonna be like an evil person like that. And she turns to him and she's like, Have you retained a lawyer?
SPEAKER_05Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and they yeah, and he's like, What? And she's like, How tell me, tell me, yeah, yeah, tell me you retained the lawyer, and he was like, I retained a lawyer, and she was like, Oh, and she just drops everything for him and like in his favor, and she's like, Bring home your wife, very, very empathetic towards his situation, which I mean, Lisa, you can tell it's like people in health insurance really aren't that way, they're like, Give me your money now.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, oh, I could tell you, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So, I mean, it's just like I was just like, Wow, right, you never hear of anybody doing that. If that happens to you, you're fucking lucky, you know, like nobody wants to hear any kind of story from a customer, they just want your money, and so I was just really just like taken aback, and I was like, wow, Emma is a sweetheart, let's go. And so it's it was her birthday.
SPEAKER_05It was I don't even think it was her birthday, I think it was just like a gift, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So, like her um, like her coworker like brings in like this stuff for her, it could have been like the receptionist at the office or whatever, but she's like, This is from your boyfriend, and it's like a whole like flowers and like a little balloon and like a card, and she reads the card, and it's like it's obviously from Nick, but she's saying Danny, yeah, and um you can see she's in such a good mood after she picks up the phone and she was like, This is Emma Beasley, how can I help you? And it was just I felt really like happy for her. It was really cute. She's walking into her apartment with like her stuff, she's all happy. She's like talking to Nick on the phone in the next scene. Like, no, I can't ask for a raise, I'm not that kind of person, which again is just painting her character for us, right? And I don't know, I like fell in love with her in like the beginning of the episode. I mean, like, I love her as a character just entirely now that like I watched this episode, but she just seems like a sweet person, and she's in the next scene, she's just like sitting on the couch, like doing her thing. I really thought that that's when they were gonna show like the news clip, but they didn't.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, she's just like this timid little homebody who is unsure of herself. You see, she obviously has like um self uh worth issues, maybe not self-worth. What's what's the word I'm looking for?
SPEAKER_00Like maybe she's not as confident as right, like confidence issues.
SPEAKER_05Thank you. Yeah, so she's she's like not that confident in herself because even when he's like encouraging her to get the raise, and she's like, No, but and you see her like practicing, um, she's just like sitting there eating her dinner, watching TV. Like, I could see myself doing that, you know, just kind of like chilling at home, whatever.
SPEAKER_00Like she's a person with no mouse intentions, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Like she just seems easy, like you know, like easygoing and just like a timid person, but not an evil person.
SPEAKER_00Which in a way, I guess, gives us like the idea that people like maybe she um she has people in her life that like step on her because she is so easygoing and timid and doesn't have like the confidence that like somebody really cocky would have, you know? Or she doesn't come off that way. Like there are people who fake their confidence really well, but she doesn't seem like a person who could do that, and so then we move into the next scene with Emma where it's like the next day or whatever, and she's at the gym with her friend. I didn't catch her friend's name. I know it was said, I just can't remember it. And um, she's on the treadmill, there's like a little TV on the treadmill, and they're talking about something.
SPEAKER_04Sorry.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's okay. So her and Audrey are on the treadmill, and Audrey's saying, Well, let's say that's her friend's name. Um, she's like, You have to bring him to brunch. Oh, when she was walking into the gym, she was texting Nick and she's like, just want to check up on you. I haven't heard from you in a while. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which is like, I'm thinking that's like the day that he went missing, or maybe the day after, maybe the day of.
SPEAKER_05It it had to be at least the day after, right? Because once she gets on the treadmill, they show that his body is found.
SPEAKER_00You're right.
SPEAKER_05So maybe it was like two, maybe three days because it took I don't remember how many days pass between the video and them finding his body, but it was at least one day, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So it was like in like the first week of like like immediately going on. This had to be after episode two. She found out after episode two. So she's finding out and she can't hear what's going on. She like asks her friend for her headphones, and we don't see her full reaction, but you can see she's just distraught, and then immediately, like, she's back at her apartment, all the lights are off. Like, her friend Audrey, whatever, like comes and like brings her food, and she's like, I'm not hungry. And they're watching the news story, and it's saying that like he was declared dead, his widow has something to say, and that's when Sophie's standing like in front of her house, like on her front porch, saying, Like, uh like I want to find, or I hope we find who did this to my husband, or something like that.
SPEAKER_05Whatever she and you get the impression also that she knew that he was married, yeah. So, because up until now, it's not really disclosed whether she knew or not. So, like, this gives you the impression, like, she's not really surprised, it doesn't seem like she's surprised anyway.
SPEAKER_00It didn't, and but then when her friend was like when they were talking about like Sophie being the widow, like that's what they had like on the bottom of the like news screen. It was like widow Sophie Brewer, and her friend's like, he was married, and she's like, Yeah, with kids or something like that, yeah, right, right.
SPEAKER_05And later we find out like he she knows like about his kids. So clearly he didn't he didn't pretend like he didn't have any kids, but we don't know what he said about his wife. Yeah, if that makes sense, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like she confirms with Pia later on, yeah, that like she knew more, but anyway, so after this, it goes back.
SPEAKER_05I'm sorry, go ahead.
SPEAKER_00Oh, oh, I'm sorry, I was gonna say that like she just she tells her friend, like, I have to go to Oakland.
SPEAKER_03Oakland, Oakland, Oakland, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay, she's like, I have to go to Oakland. Fred's like, What the fuck?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like come on, bitch, no, yeah.
SPEAKER_05But then we see we see a scene at Pia uh at Sophie's house where the family's just all kind of sitting around the table outside and they're reminiscing and they're telling stories about Nick. Um you know, it's just it it was a very realistic scene, you know, like where you're reflecting on on a loved one and they're telling a story about um how Pia was trying to like listen to a prince song, and I'm just like, Oh, I heard Prince 2.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I was like, the show is made for Lisa, they're venture friends, yeah.
SPEAKER_05My little man with his heels. Yeah, he could get it.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, the next falsetto wasn't so good. No, that's what C P SEO was saying.
SPEAKER_05I know she what she said, like something like that. He ruined the whole song or whatever.
SPEAKER_00Nobody's falsetto is Princess Falsetto, so like stop, and then you hear Ruby who's sitting at the table too, talking about like the night where she met Nick for the first time. And as like, I think P was like, and what did he say, or something, or like what was he doing? And Sophie like chimes in because she was kind of like hiding like behind like the door to go outside. Yeah, she was just like kind of observing and listening, and she chimes in, she's like, he said all the right things.
SPEAKER_05And Ruby's like, he always knew how to say the right things, and it was nice because like you could see they're all together, they're all just through their pain trying to have uh a happy moment, and they're all getting along and just enjoying each other's company, and so it was it was a really sweet scene, you know.
SPEAKER_00It really was, but there was someone missing.
SPEAKER_05There was someone missing, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't remember seeing Andrea there, she wasn't there, which I kind of like this because I watched this episode twice. I thought the first time I didn't notice it, but then like something happens with her later that made me think of it. So when I was watching it the second time, I was just like, I wonder why she's not there, like she's family, right? Right, like she's P is mom. I mean, she's six mom too, but like P was there, so like you would think that I don't know, maybe it was because of like the major relationship too.
SPEAKER_05Those are her grandkids, yeah, and so I mean, even though no matter what your I mean, clearly Sophie was respectful of her, no matter how like the issues came to pass. Sophie obviously showed her respect, but at the same time, she lost her son, but she still has her son's children, and she was obviously close to them, so there's no reason that she shouldn't have been there, especially when she was there later. Yeah, and later is when the shit happened, so yeah, it doesn't explain why she wasn't there then, but she's suffering on her own. Oh, absolutely. I mean, I don't even want to think about what it would be like young, old, whatever, to lose a child. So I mean, you know, like I I watch TV and they're like taking children away or shooting kids, and I'm just like, oh my god, my heart. Like I you know, like I listened one of the podcasts that I listened to, um and they were they were telling this story, and it was like a true crime story, and it turns out that the husband and wife were going to divorce, and the wife was afraid that the husband was gonna take the children, so she killed them. Killed the children, and the kids were like four years old and six years old, or or some like eight years old, like little babies, and she stabbed them. And I'm listening to this, and I'm just like I'm sitting out, like I had my my earpiece in at work, like while I was working, and I'm listening, and I'm just like, oh my god, I cannot start start crying at work. Um yeah. So shout out to the crime diner because Because you're gonna say shout out to the mom. No, hell no, fuck that bitch.
SPEAKER_00No, no, no, but that's really shitty. No, but like no, but shout out to the podcast.
SPEAKER_05They I I like their podcast, like they're they're awesome ladies. Um, but yeah, and so I was just like, oh my fucking god, and these are not my kids, I don't know these people. I like and I'm just like, how could you how could you do that to any kid? Never mind your own. And I mean the fact that they're little makes it even worse, but but at the end of the day, like you think about this man who lost his his kids, and then the story goes, I'll send you the episode because it was like twist after twist.
SPEAKER_00I mean, like after this month, I don't think I have to be listening to some shit like that, but continue. Well, yeah, but I'll listen to it through you.
SPEAKER_05Okay, so I'll I'll give you all the details later because I'm not gonna give them all now. If you want to hear the story, go check out the crime diner. Like, they're not paying me to say this, but but ladies, Nydia, Dana, Cindy, if you want to send me a dollar, you got my address. Um, yeah, no, but I'm just like, I I just feel for this man, and like, and even in this show, like this woman is is older and and Nick is a grown-up, but the your children will always be your babies, exactly. It's your child, no matter how old they are, it's your your baby. So I okay, I'm having a I'm having a moment.
SPEAKER_00Oh all right, all right, that's okay. So after Sophie comes in. I ooh, I want to remember what happened after.
SPEAKER_05I don't know, but af after that, like she just she just says like about how he says all the right things, and then that's it, like the scene kind of ends, and we go back to Emma.
SPEAKER_00Okay, that's what I thought, yeah, right? And you see her going to the airport.
SPEAKER_05She's at the airport, yeah. Okay, and and this bitch is like, oh, could I get a bereavement discount? They don't have bereavement discounts for mistresses, bitch. Like that's not how this works.
SPEAKER_00So then, and this is the thing that like really caught my attention too in the episode. She tells the stewardess, no person working at the desk in the airport, customer service agent.
SPEAKER_04Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_00She tells she tells her, she was so polite too. She called her by her name, she was being all friendly, like she really was like, she was being like true Emma. She's like, he was my fiance. Yeah, you know, that's when I started to think like this could be an act, but then like later on in the episode, she like redeemed herself in my eyes.
SPEAKER_05So she was like, We'll have to hear about that.
SPEAKER_00We were gonna get married, and like Ali, like but you know that she pulled that shit out of her ass.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah, because the lady was she was like, Oh, what about the uh I forgot what she said. She was like, Oh, I'm I'm flying for like I forgot what she said, but then she says, Oh, but um bereavement, and she's like, Oh, well, okay, I have to ask you a question, and and they asked her like who he was, and she's like, Oh, he was my partner, and she's like, Oh, well, unfortunately, you know, it only applies to her parents and spouses, right? And she's like, Oh, well, he was my fiancee, we were gonna get married. And who's gonna fucking debate her? He's dead.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, it was just kind of silly seeing her like literally hand over her card, her credit card to like somebody at an airport that you know you're gonna be charged up the asshole for a last-minute flight, and then just like like her willingly knowing this, and then just like out of nowhere pulling that bereavement thing. Like, I wonder why they included that.
SPEAKER_05Well, I'm all for a discount, but I think it was I think the point was to show her thinking on her feet and and just trying to I don't want to say like conniving because I didn't really take it as like a conniving thing, but her her trying to use her context clues to benefit her.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, maybe that was her trying to break out of her character too, and it was such like a goofy-ish type scene, like the way that she was like pulling the words out. Like, I'm not gonna say cringy, but I'm gonna say kind of forced. Like, it wasn't even like she was being sly or like mis like mysterious, but like coy about what she was doing, like she was doing it, and like you kind of felt like oh my god, no, like I completely just did that. You're so weird. Like, that's how I felt in that, and so that could be just like her showing us that, like, hey, like, I'm not malicious, yeah.
SPEAKER_06But I also felt like it was a little bit of attention seeking.
SPEAKER_05Okay, and and it was kind of like at first, but then her behavior continuing in the episode makes me feel like yeah, maybe that is what it was.
SPEAKER_00You think maybe because she saw Sophie on the news, she was like very um very like taken back, and she was like, Well, if his wife's in the news, why can't I? I'm his girlfriend. I was his actual love. I mean, like, not long after this, like we hear her tell Pia that um like they had plans on getting together after Ethan was done with high school, right? So it's like it's just crazy. Like maybe she thought of herself as like something more in his life. Yeah, we're only seeing each other six months, yeah.
SPEAKER_05And she she wants to make herself feel important, even though like it's all in her face that she's not part of this. He's got news coverage, his family is on the TV, there's reporters parked out front of his house.
SPEAKER_00She sees that whole scene too when she goes to his house, and we see that. Um it's we see that in episode three.
SPEAKER_05All the more, yeah, all the more that solidifies like how nobody she was in the grand scheme of things. Nobody knew she existed.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so anyway, um, she gets on the flight or whatever, and then when she gets to her hotel in Oakland, um, they asked her if she was there for business or pleasure, and she said, um, personal, and I thought that was weird, and she's like, My fiance died, and I was like, and she didn't even like struggle to say it, it's almost as if she was like practicing that on the plane.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it was it was way too like rehearsed, yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's exactly what I mean. Very much rehearsed.
SPEAKER_05Oh no, it's that time of year, like then it's yeah, it's pouring out, so they're probably all like quick, run inside, it's dry.
SPEAKER_00Tomorrow will be silverfish day. Oh yeah, they always come after the rain.
SPEAKER_05I'd rather have the ants, yeah. Me too. Um, yeah, so like, and her friend texts her and tells her not to get caught up. So I feel like that's also a hint showing that she's easily led. Like she's she's the type to get caught up, and and we kind of already see it, right? Because she's told the airline worker, oh, it's my fiance. Can I have a bereavement discount? Oh, uh, at the hotel, oh, my fiance died. Like, why are you telling all these people your business?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you know, like yeah, I thought that was weird too. She was like putting a target on her back by like talking too much, she was saying too much. That's just it. She was just she was saying too much.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, she she clearly wants people to know, or she wants people to ask, maybe, yeah, you know, like and and she's ready, she's ready to, you know.
SPEAKER_00So parents are like included very much in the show. Like you see Sophie's parents, or you see her mom, you see Pia's mom, and we know her dad um isn't alive anymore, which we find out later on, but I don't think that's really that much important. I'm not really spoiling much. So I'm really surprised that you don't see Emma's parents at all in any of this, unless they're like not here anymore. But still, wouldn't wouldn't like I'm sure like I would tell my mom, I'd be like, hey, I met this guy, it's going really well. We're talking about this, this, and that. Like, I could see spending my life with him. And then, like, I mean, his death made national coverage because of like the way it happened, right? So, I mean, like, in that sense, like, even if like my parents didn't live like in the same town as me, she obviously doesn't live with her parents, they'd call her up and be like, Emma, what the fuck? Danny's dead, and his name's Nick.
SPEAKER_05Like, I know, you know, I didn't pick up on that, but that's a really good point.
SPEAKER_00And her friend is kind of like acting like her mom, like, like Emma, what the fuck are you doing? Like, this isn't your shit, get out of it.
SPEAKER_05Right, right. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00That part was just kind of weird to me because I'm like, where is this? Like, she I know she's like a full-fledged adult, but where the fuck's this woman's parents?
SPEAKER_05Right? Like, someone's a leash on this lady.
SPEAKER_00Someone come get your child. It was just weird to me, but anyway, um, she's at the hotel. She when she chucks in, she's like, My fiance's dead, blah blah blah. She goes up to her hotel room. You see her laying out the dress that she wears when she drives to Nick's house.
SPEAKER_05I know, it's like all orchestrated, yeah, and she's rehearsing again.
SPEAKER_00She's like, What'd she say? She was like, I was in a relationship with your husband. Like, literally, what she says to Sophie when Sophie confronts her episode.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, because well, after that, you we see her at the house, so now we're seeing it kind of like from the the scene where Ethan walks out and Sophie follows. We're seeing this from Emma's perspective now, like the whole thing with the hose and all that.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And but we see her talk to the reporter, Ben Park. And he's like, Oh, who are you with? And she's like, What? Like, I'm Emma, I'm stupid.
SPEAKER_00Like, yeah, she was just like, No one. Like, I'm surprised she didn't stay there, like my my fiance dead. Like, she was just throwing it left and right, but she knew her place there, and she was like, No one, and he's like, I'm Ben Park, I'm with so and so, like, whatever it is.
SPEAKER_05He's like, I broke the story, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And she was like, Yeah, that's why he said he's like, You know, I broke the story, and she's like, What the fuck? And he's like, She she kind of looked at him like, What the fuck are you saying? And he was like, I'm the one who broke the story to the media about Nick Brewer's death. And she was just like, She was taken aback, but more in a way, like, man, know your place. Like, you can see, like, I'm not with the media. Obviously, I must be like upset and trying to like see them. And you're telling me that you broke the story. I thought like he was being really shitty there, but that's all like media people, yeah.
SPEAKER_05And then he gives her his card, and he's like, Oh, well, something to the effect of like, I'll help you if you help me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like if you have anything, share it with me. Yeah, share to share, he says, some shit like that.
SPEAKER_05So then then we see from her perspective, her following Sophie in her car, and she's she's doing the whole rehearsing thing, like you know, and she really followed her too. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It was weird. I like but yeah, she was rehearsing in the car the whole time, too.
SPEAKER_05And I was just like it felt so self-centered to me. Because she's just like, hi, like you're fucking saying hi and smiling, like if you're meeting your boyfriend's grandma, not you're meeting your boyfriend's wife after he's been killed, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But I think reality kind of snaps in where um, and we see from Sophie's perspective in episode three, where Sophie hasn't gotten in touch with or hasn't found Ethan at the skate park, walks back to her car, she's on the phone with I forgot who, maybe Ruby, and she notices Emma across the street standing outside of like the car that she rented or whatever. And then she like we see it from Sophie's perspective in episode three, where like Emma gets into her car, tries to drive off, Sophie bangs on the window, she stops, and that's when she's like, hi, and then she gets up out of the car and she's like, I was in a relationship with your husband. But in episode four, like we see Emma making eye contact with Sophie, who's on the phone outside of her car before she gets in. And Emma's saying, Oh my god, I shouldn't be here. And Emma gets in her car and she starts to drive off. And I was I was thinking in my head, like, if you think this was a bad decision, you're like trying to abort, why didn't you drive faster? Why didn't you just ignore the banging on the window? She really could have just drove by her.
SPEAKER_05Right.
SPEAKER_00Like fucking idiot Emma was there. But anyway, Emma's like, Emma gets out of the car and she says her whole day, and but it feels more sincere in episode four rather than episode three, but that's also because we're like seeing Sophie's perspective, like her kid's missing, her husband's dead, like, and now she's being told that like she didn't just cheat on him, he cheated on her too.
SPEAKER_05Right. Like, and so it was like yeah, like a relationship, and and here she is. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And so, like, this was just like the cherry on top of like the Sunday for Sophie. And so, like, anything Emma's saying is like really setting her off, and she says, like, some shit like um, like stop fucking following me, or like you're like this is a fucking joke.
SPEAKER_05That you're you're not you're not here for like my sake, you're here to appease your own guilt, and she's like, and I hope you choke on it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and so after that, like Emma drives off. She I think she goes right to like the florist shop.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, wait, no.
SPEAKER_00Wait, because I'm trying to think after that, how we're getting to like the the next scene. I don't want to give it away. Wait, no, after she goes back to the hotel, yes, okay, because I have something important that I noticed that I don't know if you noticed. So she's going back to the hotel. She has on the comfy ass like waffle robe. Yeah, totally noticed that. I was like, damn, I want one of those. Um, and she's like watching um CH like on the news, like him saying no comma, no comma, which like earlier we see Sophie watching that. Oh, yeah, we did forget something, didn't we?
SPEAKER_04What did we forget?
SPEAKER_00Did that happen yet? Did Sophie talk to um like the funeral director yet?
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so never mind. Okay, so anyway, we see um we see Emma watching the news, she's like laying in bed, she's wearing like the robe, she's watching what's going on, and her friend calls her, but before we get into the phone call with her friend, like the one who's acting like her mom. It was the same day, right? From her telling Sophie that like I was your husband's mistress to like laying in bed upset about everything. Okay, she changed earrings. And they're not they're not like it's not like she was wearing like big hoop earrings and then she like took them off and put her studs back in or something. She was wearing like dangly, like fucking, I don't know, like uh New York and company earrings, right? And then she changes them to like a hoop with a little fringe, like a little Francesca's moment. And I'm just like, what the fuck are you doing?
SPEAKER_05I didn't notice that. I did. Maybe this is supposed to be, I don't know. I don't know because like that whole scene, it's like her friend is just kind of like trying to bring her back to reality and say, like, you know, just don't get involved, basically. Like, this isn't your problem, you know. Like I'm paraphrasing, but and then and she's like in the meantime, she's like having flashbacks to Nick and like fantasizing that he's yeah, like and it's like fantasizing like he's there, which at first made me think like this is all in her head, yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and so I it was just weird that like uh like in that moment, I'm like, I think she's actually just crazy, and she imagined this whole relationship, and maybe she like just saw on the news and she's one of those people that get off on trauma, right? Which isn't too far off from something Pia said later on. So I just like I was going through that the second time I watched it. I was like, maybe she's just a crazy lady, but later on in the episode, like after this scene, after the earring change, after she's on the phone with her friend, and she looks over and she sees Nick in bed with her, well, Danny in bed with her, whatever, and she says to her friend, I have to go, and she's just looking at him, and he's looking at her, but she's imagining all this, like she's like literally like hallucinating. Um after this, what scene happened after this?
SPEAKER_05After that is when she's in the police station.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so that's when oh, because she tells Sophie, and we don't hear this part in episode three. She tells Sophie when like they're talking outside, she's like, I I'm going to the police station and I'm telling them everything I know, but I just wanted to tell you first. So that's when like the next day she went to the police station, and she walks in and she greets uh the detective, and I forgot his name already, and he I'm not the best with names, and it picks it picks up from where like the opening scene left off. Like you can tell it's supposed to be the same scene, and then the thing though is that she's like, I was Nick's girlfriend, and not even surprised the detective's like, let's go somewhere quieter. Not even like shocked or surprised. I like really watched his face the first and second time, and he showed like no no no sign of being surprised by the shit.
SPEAKER_05So then we go back to the first scene where he's interrogating her, he's asking her the same questions, and she's telling him like we were in love, and um she's like he was he was kind, he never lost his temper, and that they were exclusive. And I'm like, Yeah, you were exclusive, just you, him, and his wife. Okay, yeah, right.
SPEAKER_00So weird, and he's like, I think he actually asks um Emma, like, do you know if he was on any other dating profiles? I mean, um, any other dating apps or something like that. And so, oh, he also asks her if he has ever been abusive with her, and she's like, No, like she looks for, I feel like there was a little bit of a delay, but she was like, No, but she's flashing back to times when they're like making love and like you know, just like really romantic times and nothing like not even like the scene where Nick put himself on top of Sophie in the last episode when she admitted that she was cheating on him, not even like in that kind of way, like in a true, like emotional, like relationship way, right?
SPEAKER_05Like, that's what she's reminiscing. Like, oh, he was so kind and he never lost his temper, like and she's painting him out to be like this just wonderful, right? Amazing, perfect person. Yeah, but he doesn't like that she doesn't know who who would ever do this to him, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's what he says. Like, do you have any idea who would do this? And she's like, No, and so after that, like when she's leaving the police station, she calls her friend, she's like, Hey, like, just letting you know the police are gonna call you because like we need to like collaborate on my alibi or something like that, right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah. And because they tell her that um they're gonna check her alibi, but that she should go home. Yeah, yeah. And so then after that is when she goes to buy the flowers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so she gets in her car, she goes to the flower shop, she buys flowers, and she's like looking back at like her text with him.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and she's like looking at his social media feed, looking at pictures of like him and his family, and I don't even think she pays for the flowers.
SPEAKER_00That was something that threw me off the first time. I'm like, she's she picks up the sunflowers, she hands them to the florist, says, Can I get these wrapped up? And the florist goes inside to wrap them up, and she's just like on her phone. And the florist is like, Lady, like, miss, like, hello, here's your stuff. And she had to like tap her on the shoulder to turn around. And she takes flowers and she's like, Oh, thank you. I don't see her getting her card back. I did she give her card, I forgot to give it away. No, she gave her card to the woman in the airport. Maybe she forgot to get it back.
SPEAKER_05This is a magical TV, yeah, right?
SPEAKER_00So I was just like, Okay, whatever. So she takes the flowers, and at first I was thinking that maybe she was gonna bring them to the house for Sophie and try to talk to her again, but instead she brings them to Nick's memorial at the um college, community college.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, the school where he works, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I thought that she was gonna see some kind of scene of what we saw in episode three, and it seems like she's either there. The day after because the gym is being used, or way later on. Like if that was like a morning thing, then she went probably around like six.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, like she brings the flowers and then she sees the word rapist on the wall, so she cleans it off.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like there's a little memorial on the ground, and people wrote in like chalk on the bricks, like around the memorial where people are putting like candles and flowers. Like people wrote like best coach ever, like shit like that. Maybe not best coach ever, but like writing like really positive things about him, and then somebody in red like wrote rapist. And so after she puts down the flowers, she's like, Oh, and she like wipes it off. And then our buddy Mac comes.
SPEAKER_05And he thanks her. And she introduces herself. Yeah. And then she asks about his kids.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's like, Who are you? And she's like, I'm just a friend. Like, I and she like clearly says, like, oh, like I flew in late from LA. And then he's like, But who are you to him? She's like, I'm just like a friend. Like super dilly, like lady we know, like your shtick, whatever. And so she's like, and how is Sophie through all this? And how are Kai and Ethan? And I'm like, ew, right? Yeah, and he kind of looks like very like hesitant, like thrown off that she knows this much about him. And she's supposed to be just some friend from LA, and he's supposed to be on those LA trips anyway.
SPEAKER_05And so and and he and Matt's been his friend for like ever. So how does he not know this person?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and he's just like, Oh, you know, they were and like gives a very general answer. Like, if somebody's talking to you crazy on the street, or somebody's at your job, and they're just being a little weird, and you know that's the weird person you don't talk to, and you just kind of give them answers to like rush them off, but you're trying to still be calling because you know they could snap on you at any moment. Those are the kind of answers that he's giving her. Yeah, and then afterwards, she like just takes it upon herself to like go into the building, walk right into his office, and sniff his shit. Not Matt's next.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, and and I'm just like, what the fuck? How do you have the balls to do this shit? Like, you couldn't even ask for a fucking raise, and you're gonna like walk into this dead man's job, find his office, and just make yourself at home.
SPEAKER_00I mean, the fact that she walks right into a school in the year 2020 slash 2021, and nobody fucking questions her.
SPEAKER_06Well, red flags everywhere.
SPEAKER_00I mean, like the the fucking security ladies, like, and can I help you? Yeah, eventually like you know, she kind of like shut up the whole school at this point. Like, you don't know what the fuck people do.
SPEAKER_01Like this happens unfortunately.
SPEAKER_00But this is what I mean. Like, right, this is like today's society, like, nobody's hiding this in any shows. Everybody makes jokes about it, it's fucking terrible, like it's gross. I don't know why we live in a world like this, but yeah, it's just like maybe this is why it happens because people are just people can just walk in, apparently.
SPEAKER_05Because uh uh physical therapists have crazy girlfriends in Los Angeles that can just walk right into the building.
SPEAKER_00So well, anyway, she picks up his jacket, sniffs it, and then she makes a big big ass loud noise, like pulling out his chair to sit down and like act like she's in his life now. And the security lady comes in, she's like, Man, can I help you with something? She was like, No, I was just leaving. And as like she's escorting her out, Pia is walking past her towards Matt's office. So, and then the security lady are walking out, Pia walks past her, but they don't know each other yet, right? So there it's just two strangers passing each other, and Pia is like storming off to Matt's office, and so she confronts Matt, and she's just like, You were on all those LA trips. Did you know about his mistress, or did you know that he had he was seeing someone?
SPEAKER_05And and then they kind of put two and two together.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's just like, Fuck, I didn't know, which wasn't so genuine to me, but anyway, um they put two and two together, and he's like, and when she was saying the LA trips, like he was like, Oh shit, the woman outside like mentioned she's from MLA, and he's like, Was her name Emma? And he's like, Yeah, and he's like, She was just here, and so Pia runs out, tries to get her, and um the next scene, I think like Emma's back at her hotel and Pia's knocking on the door.
SPEAKER_05Then the next scene is Sophie with the funeral arrangements, yeah, and this is where like she's got this guy in her house telling her about explaining all the different funeral arrangements that she can make, and Sophie's kind of like half listening, and then her phone starts going off like uh incessantly, and it's it's all these like nasty uh things, just like it should have been you, yeah, and they're all from like unknown numbers, so she's just very distracted, and she's she tells him like she has to stop, um you know, and and just that's it, like she she can't deal with this right now, and then um she breaks down and the family comes in and and comforts her because like she's what's it that like they find out that like somebody somebody posted her number online and they posted her credit card numbers online and I think she must have found out like when she queried now it aka googled it.
SPEAKER_00Um I think she like figured it out, and so she was telling her mom and like the kids afterwards, she was like, Yeah, someone leaked my number online, and uh Ruby's like oh my god, I can't believe somebody did this. She's like, Yeah, and they leaked like my credit cards information too, so I have to change those. And Ruby's like, Who did this? And she's like, Trolls, yeah, like internet trolls, and Ruby's like, What? So basically, like Sophie's just equating this to like just internet people who are just upset with her, like the people who pretty much are texting her did this. So, and I'm sure after her encounter in the gym in the last episode, um, with that woman when she was walking out, like she just knows what everybody's thinking about her, and this like image that Sophie is portrayed as like to the public in the show. Yeah, like she's just like the tramp wife, right? So um, so yeah, so I don't really oh I remember the result of that scene. Um, Andrea was actually there. I don't remember how Andrea got there, but she was there.
SPEAKER_05The the scene that part happens a little bit later. Oh because first first we go to the hotel. Okay, Pia shows up at Emma's hotel and P is like, what do you want? P is like just like there's no room for like fluff, and Emma's Emma says she wants to help. And P is like, it can't be true. And so Emma says, tells her to look at the phone and that he was he was unhappy, and and Emma even mentioned something about his childhood trauma, and she's like, Well, he didn't tell me what it was, but he mentioned that there was something that he went through as a kid, so now Pia is a little bit more intrigued because how would she know that?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so she like she obviously didn't believe her, and she was saying things like, Oh, like he he said he was lonely and unhappy in his marriage, and that as soon as Ethan graduated high school, like I said earlier, um, that he was gonna leave her, and that him, like Nick and Pia went through something that bonded them when they were younger, like something traumatic. And that's something that, like, according to Pia's face, people don't really know about. And so the fact that she knew about that is not something she could have just Googled, right? Because she gets off on trauma, you know, right, right, which Pia does accuse her of, I think, in the scene. She's like, If you're just one of those people who get off on trauma, right, you need to leave.
SPEAKER_05There's a text from Sophie to Pia telling her to come over, and then um, as she's leaving, Emma tells Pia that in another life she imagined them as sisters. Yeah, and Pia is like Pia looks at her and she's like, That's so sad.
SPEAKER_00I think she literally says, like, that's fucking sad. Yeah, like I was so happy for Pia in that moment because I was really upset with Sophie. I was like, That like, know your place, right? Like you're telling this girl who just lost her brother because he was murdered, and so much new stuff is coming back. She's like, I want to be sisters, like yeah, fuck off. Yeah, but Pia takes her number, right?
SPEAKER_05And so, um, actually, I think this is when we actually find out that somebody posted the phone numbers and the credit cards, and Nick, Nick's mom now, Andrew, is getting on Sophie about like you know, just honestly, like I know she's hurt and all, but it's straight up bullshit.
SPEAKER_00And Ruby is sticking up for Sophie, and rightfully so, because I feel like Andrew was really wrong here.
SPEAKER_05She was, and so this causes like a big fight, and then Andrew's yelling, like, go to hell, go to hell, yeah, and then all of a sudden, like Ruby sticks up for Sophie, and then Andrew's all of a sudden like, oh, I miss my baby boy. Oh, shut up. I'm sorry, but like shut up. Yeah, that doesn't excuse you being an asshole.
SPEAKER_00She really was an asshole, she really was.
SPEAKER_05So at that point, we go back to the hotel, and Emma gets a phone call, and the phone call tells her that they're watching her, they know what room she's in, and that she leave she needs to leave town now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that was weird.
SPEAKER_05Mm-hmm. So she's freaked out, she calls the police, and then she literally packs the fuck up and drives away.
SPEAKER_00Like she goes into the parking garage to get her car where I'm like, oof, this is it.
SPEAKER_05That would be the last place that I would go. I know call the police, call like I would call the front desk, call the police, and blockade my fucking room.
SPEAKER_00Like, she's really fucking stupid in this scenario, you know. Like, she gets into the elevator, the person could be waiting for her there. Yeah, I wouldn't. She walks down, like, she probably has to walk down some stairs to get to the parking garage, too. Like, holy fucking shit, this is where they push you, right? And then she runs through a parking garage and she's on the phone, like calling Pia, and she's like, Call me back, like it's an emergency. And I'm surprised Pia didn't pick up. That was a little sus right there. So, anyway, um, she starts speeding off towards home, presumably.
SPEAKER_04And whatever.
SPEAKER_00She's like, I don't have to fly home. Like, I doubt she was going to the airport, she was probably just trying to make it home. And for like you could see her in the city streets, and somehow she ends up on an alley, like, of course, right in that flex. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And there's this, like, I would have, I would have driven to like Oakland's version of Times Square.
SPEAKER_00You know, I think about if I'm ever in that situation where somebody's following me heavily, and like if I ever feel unsure, I know just to pull into a police station. Not that like maybe that would do so much, but like I know like that's probably the safest place to go, right? Or like a super populated area, like park the car on the street, like in a downtown area where everybody's walking around, right? Or in front of like a restaurant that has like a valet service or drive to a police station, yeah. That's what I mean.
SPEAKER_05But like, I yeah, I would not, I don't think I would have left the room.
SPEAKER_00I mean, she was at the police station earlier that day, she knows where it is, right?
SPEAKER_05Call Rashawn. Call like call 911, call Rashawn, call the front desk. Like that's the same. Rashon, yeah. But why would you leave the room? If somebody tells you they're watching you, they know what room you're in. How do you know they're not waiting for your ass right outside that door? Uh-huh. If you're inside, you can lock the door, you can put uh, I don't know, like a chair under the doorknob, you can get something, you can grab a lamp to act like a weapon in case somebody tries to break in. But by the time the cops get there, chances are that person can't get inside.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Like even if they're shooting through the walls, like you're probably okay. You know, like I so I don't understand why she left, but that's just that's just my logic, especially when you know you have to you're in a city you don't know, you have to go into like an underground parking lot to get your car. All places I would not go if somebody tells me that they're after me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I mean, you don't know where that phone call was coming from. The phone call could have been coming from inside the house. Sorry, no, no, no, it's it's okay. It's just the call is coming from inside the house.
SPEAKER_00It's just, I don't know. The whole scene was weird. Like, she gets run off the road by this truck that's following her. That's obviously the people that called her. It's like a green, like a dark green pickup truck with like that like backing on it that almost makes it look like a longer truck.
SPEAKER_05Like it's like yeah, it's like a green message.
SPEAKER_00I don't know what to call it. Yeah, but it was like an expedition or something, yeah, like a like a suburban or like something super long. Yeah, right. Yeah, and um, and so like she crouches into a dumpster, like she's fine, she just like banged up. I think she broke her arm or some shit. Yeah, and um yeah, she's she's cruised up and yeah, and if you like pause the video, because obviously I did when I went back like for a third time just to see that scene, like it's like a white man driving the car. Could be somebody we know. We know a lot of white men in this show so far.
SPEAKER_05So mostly white men in the show, yeah, mostly white men.
SPEAKER_00But I mean, like, we know some that are a little like sus already, so it's fine. Um, and then I wonder how she got to the hospital because she was like, you know, like when like when you get hit in the head, or like if you're like I I mean, like Lisa, you've been in like terrible car accidents, I was in a terrible car accident where you think like you're about to die, and it's like that white noise fills your like headspace, and you can't really any you can't hear anything going on around you, like everything's like a stupid exactly. Like, I'm sure we've all been in that, even like in an extremely stressful situation. If you get a call that something terrible has happened to you, knock on wood, immediately that happens, right? And so, like that happens to Emma, and that's how we kind of fade out of the scene. You hear her like car like noise, like the horn or whatever, like just like blaring. Um as we like zoom out, and then we see her in the hospital.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I don't know. They they don't they don't say how she gets from point A to point B. So we don't know if she called or if a bystander called.
SPEAKER_00She may have called the detective because he was there, right? So we like I wonder how long she like maybe somebody found her in the car, maybe she regained consciousness enough to call 911. I'm I'm so confused.
SPEAKER_05But anyway, so yeah, so like in the hospital, no no, it's okay.
SPEAKER_00Go ahead. No, go ahead, go ahead.
SPEAKER_05Oh no, no, so she's she's just like explaining to Rashawn what happened, and Pia shows up. Pia's just like, I'm here, I'm Pia.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like I say, she's just like fed up with everything, yeah.
SPEAKER_05She's like, What? Right. Like I'm gonna run this investigation from now on. And Rashon wants to know why she's there. And Pia is like that, she doesn't know if they should believe her. And Rashawn's like, well, like she didn't make up what she what he said, like she didn't make up a concussion or something like that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like something really, really funny, like alluding to the fact that like you think she did this to herself for attention.
SPEAKER_05And then and even even if she did, right? Like, even if we didn't see the green car or whatever, even if she did, like, that's still elaborate. That's still elaborate. Yeah, it's not likely.
SPEAKER_00You can't really fake a broken arm or a concussion, you know. It's not like she just like puts some ketchup on her and she's like, I'm injured.
SPEAKER_05No, no, no, but I mean, like, even if she made up the whole thing about being followed and just drove her car into a dumpster on purpose.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you're right.
SPEAKER_05It it's still I mean, you know, who who would who would think that that's the first uh the go the go-to answer is like, oh, you did this to yourself.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but she does identify that it was a man on the phone and that it was a green truck that was following her, and she's goes to say, like, oh, and if I remember anything, I'll go to the police station. He's like, just get your rest and get the fuck out of here. So, well, he doesn't say that part, but you know he meant it. Yeah, and so he walks out of the room, Pia follows him, and Pia is just like, Yo, like I thought you were gonna tell me everything.
SPEAKER_02We have a deal.
SPEAKER_00Like, if you don't, and I guess the deal was referencing, like, if you don't tell me everything, then I'm gonna go to your coworkers and say we met on like the fake Tinder, right? Okay, so um, even though wait, wasn't that the deal?
SPEAKER_05Something like that.
SPEAKER_00Because don't they know about that profile? Because like when they were teasing him at his desk, they know about the profile, but I because if I was the detective, I'd be like, Pia, I don't know you shit.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I don't know if they know about her. I think that he told the the chief, that's what it is, but I don't know, I don't know if it becomes other people know, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and maybe that's what it was, not the whole the fact that he had the dating profile, but the fact that um that they had already engaged prior to this, um they had an engagement or whatever, yeah. Like they they know each other prior to this.
SPEAKER_05I kind of thought it was like more so that she like it wasn't a chip pill? No, like okay, he wasn't officially on the case at first until the family requested him.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I see.
SPEAKER_05Right, right. Um, and basically that's where he tells her that there were other women.
SPEAKER_00And she's like, What do you mean? Other than that's when he says what does he say? Oh, do you not remember?
SPEAKER_03Tell me.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's when he's like, Yeah, like um he um like so this was next thing. He would make dating profiles on all different apps under different analysis. And he would just like date multiple women, and then when he was kind of done or the relationship ended, um, he would delete the profile and right make a new one on a new app with a new name. And yeah, so they were they like the detective really to pick it that like Emma is not one, Emma's multiple, you know, right?
SPEAKER_05And then Pia goes right into the hotel to the hotel to the hospital room and tells Emma. Like Yeah, I th I thought that was kind of sus. You're not the only one, and then he she's like, Oh, at least the three different names. They mention one of the names, which is Mandy Harrison, who's also in Los Angeles, but I'm like, why is Pia telling her this? And is it to help her? Is it to hurt her? Is it like what what's the reason?
SPEAKER_00I know that just kind of solidified that either Pia is really fucking stupid, which I don't really think she is, or Pia has nothing to do with the murder of her brother. Because why would she do that?
SPEAKER_05Right.
SPEAKER_00I mean, we find out later that did not throw Emma off. Like that was actually helpful for her.
SPEAKER_05Because because then I was trying to think, like maybe she's just trying to get a reaction out of Emma.
SPEAKER_00Maybe, but she leaves before she can see that reaction.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I don't like that's the thing. I don't I don't know how to take that scene.
SPEAKER_00It was weird, but Pia summarizes and like basically says what I said. Um that like this was a thing that he did, and that he was on many different apps, and I think Emma's just like feeling played. And so this is probably like a common theme in her life that people like step over her, people like think about like like maybe she's too trusting of people in her life, like super easily. And again, they were only dating six months. Like, I know like a lot of feelings can develop in six months, but I mean, she was talking about like marriage and shit, and like breaking up a family, you know?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and so like I don't know, but anyway, well, she's not breaking up the family, he is no, but I mean she's kind of hand in hand in that.
SPEAKER_00I mean, like, he wouldn't be breaking up the family if it wasn't for her, he would have still stayed lonely in the marriage, right?
SPEAKER_05I don't know, I'm not trying to say that like family is on him, it's not on her.
SPEAKER_00No, but you know, she would be like she's she doesn't have the opportunity, yeah.
SPEAKER_05But she doesn't have the opportunity unless he gives it to her.
SPEAKER_00Like, I think what I'm trying to play. No, I think what I'm trying to say, and I said it the wrong way because I don't mean it like that, is more like if she thinks that she's gonna be like Kai and Ethan's new mom, oh yeah, everything's gonna go super brain brain. Yeah, she's gonna be like Pia's new sister and everything's gonna be happy and butterflies. Like, she's fucking wrong. And that's kind of what I meant. That like she's involved in the breaking up of the family because she's being dragged into it. Like, she's not, even though she's innocent in her place, she's not innocent in the place in like Sophie's eyes and Pia's eyes and the kids' eyes.
SPEAKER_05And she's not innocent because while this is on him, right? He's the one married, he's the one who made the commitment, he's the one who chose to be married and have children. However, I think that that still shows poor judgment on her part because if you're seeing this man and this man is telling you I'm married, I don't care what the fuck bullshit he's telling you. Oh, we're not happy, we're this, we're that, we're gonna do this, I'm gonna get a divorce.
SPEAKER_00At the end of the day, he's still married, yeah, and you're still making a decision to be part of this chaos, and that's what I meant, like guilty by association, like willingly putting yourself in that position, and you should know it comes with all the ridicule. And I mean, she's seeing some of that right now, yeah, and it's just like it's so silly how she's like she's not understanding for being so empathetic in the beginning of the episode, but she's really not taking her body and placing it in somebody else's shoes, seeing a situation from someone else's perspective, right? Which usually those two go hand in hand, like somebody who's empathetic can put themselves in somebody else's shoes and exp like not experience, but like kind of like relate to what somebody else is going through emotionally, and she's just not there, she's not there, there's a disconnect there, she is definitely disconnected, but but she goes home, she goes home and she looks up Mandy, and she buys her.
SPEAKER_05Yep, and Mandy has a big ass painting of Nick, and she buys it. Yeah, well, I assume she buys it. I don't know, I don't know if she gave it to her, but but she goes home with the painting of Nick.
SPEAKER_00Well, she says, like, when when Mandy opens up the door and sees Emma there, Emma says something like, I saw this on I saw your art online. I was super interested in this painting, like this painting, specifically the one that like you see here, like in the in the next like minute come back with. And it's the one of like Nick's face.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and so like so she goes there under false pretenses. And Mandy tells her, like, how I don't know, like they just so she was in a relationship with him, but she saw through his bullshit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so like you can tell that like because like immediately like after, like it's going back and forth between her at Mandy's and then her at like her own apartment with like her best friend. Yeah, and so she was like eliciting questions from Mandy about their relationship, and she confirms that like he did this with he did the same shit that he did with me with Mandy, like he promised like a house and a marriage and a honeymoon and like a family and a life, and she saw through that bullshit and I fell victim for it. And so this is the first time where besides feeling like the victim because she was somebody else's like lover and that person died, so like feel bad for me because like I'm going through emotional turmoil. She really feels like the victim right now, like in her like whole being, like she is this is just like an eye-opener. And this is what I meant like in like an hour ago when I was saying like character arc.
SPEAKER_05Oh my glasses empty. I'm sorry, go ahead.
SPEAKER_00No, it's okay. But this is Emma's transition, and Emma becomes vicious, and she's like, Let's burn this shit, and her and her friend take gasoline, light that fucking painting on fire, and you're like, Let's burn it, yeah. And she calls Ben.
SPEAKER_05She calls Ben and at the end, the very end of the episode, is a scene of her sitting down for an interview with him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And basically, now she's saying that she doesn't know what to make of Nick and the signs from the video.
SPEAKER_00Well, this is when she tells him, like, yeah, I knew he had like she said something was a little fishy, and we were gonna she says something like we were gonna break up, or I told him, like, I gave him an ultimatum, and that's when he came clean about being married and having a family. And Ben's like, So you just were okay with it? Okay, she's like, Yeah, but Yeah, all of a sudden it's like her story is different now. Mm-hmm. It's kind of more like boo-hoo, feel bad for me. But like at the same time, she's trying to make his character, she's trying to like demean his character because he's being portrayed as like, and this is how she saw him too. And like you could really tell in the scene where she wiped like rapists off the wall, she thinks so highly of Nick, everybody thinks so highly of Nick, and then finally she's like, He is that rapist piece of shit, dirtbag pig, whatever everybody's calling him.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so now the thing is, like, I'm a little bit torn because did she get there because she wants the attention? All of a sudden, now she she actually has her moment in the spotlight. Yeah, or did she get there because she went to Oakland? She talked to Mandy, uh, Pia told her about the other women. So did she get there on her own and she actually believes that? Or is she just saying that for attention?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the first time I watched it, and even the second time I watched it, up until you and I started talking. Um I kind of interpreted the whole thing as like her saying feel sorry for me earlier was like just her feeling sorry for herself and not necessarily getting attention from others. Her just like, you know, like when you say something out loud and it becomes true. Okay, so that was her saying it out loud, it becoming true, and like her letting that event actually affect her life because she can ignore the fact that her boyfriend's dead and pretend like he's not, but until she like finally comes to terms with like the event, you know what I mean? So, like that's how I kind of felt like when I was watching it, I was like, Okay, her saying that, like, yes, it sounds like very forced, it sounds very jagged, like weird. Um, she is saying it to believe it, but at the end, I was like, Yeah, she's she's letting everybody know on national television, like what a fucking piece of shit he was. And I think she wants other women to come out, and maybe she's doing this because she feels terrible about the whole situation. Sorry, this is like a big window sign.
SPEAKER_05No, no, no, I don't hear it.
SPEAKER_00Sorry.
SPEAKER_05No, you're fine.
SPEAKER_00It's like a thunder plane.
SPEAKER_05Thunder plane?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, I think there's like uh there's like an army base a few miles from me, like maybe three, four miles a day. And it sounds like a very low plane, which sometimes happens. Um that happens at like big thunder, too. Yeah, it's in like town or something, but um, which isn't no, I think it's in cold snack actually, the army base.
SPEAKER_05But anyway, yeah, but I hear planes over me all the time.
SPEAKER_00No, but this was like so.
SPEAKER_05And they're low, some of them.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't know. I can't wait.
SPEAKER_05Like sometimes when I'm sitting in here, I just see them going right over the skylights.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow, okay. And I'm just like right by you too, right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but it's it's not that airport. It they must be flying into Newark.
SPEAKER_01You're kind of stuck.
SPEAKER_05Because they're big ass planes, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, I know what you mean, but that's weird.
SPEAKER_05Mm-hmm. Sometimes they're high and sometimes they're low.
SPEAKER_01Oh, sometimes like LaGuardia, who knows?
SPEAKER_05Even and sometimes, like, especially like when I'm in my bedroom and it's like in the you know, in the evening and it's it's nighttime. Like, sometimes I don't turn on the TV, I just um I'll use my iPad to read so that I don't have to turn the light on. So I I prop up the iPad on the night table and I don't turn on the lights, and like the room is quiet, and I'm just kind of like this, and you know, like scroll, scroll. Yeah, but since it's so quiet and my window is open, sometimes I hear them and I'm like, what the actual fuck? And then I'm like, Yeah, why does that sound so loud? I'm not I was closer to the airport when I lived in New York, and I didn't hear them like this, but then again, I also live next to a fire station, so yeah, no, anyway.
SPEAKER_00I mean, that's the thing too. That's what I was thinking about too, like when I lived in New York. I mean, like, I had the train right by me, and so I remember like summer nights like cracking open the window because you know, no air conditioning, and listening to the sound of the train at night, like you know, every fucking 15 minutes. But like it was it's so like soothing for me. I love hearing like city noises at night. Like when I was in Baltimore for that month, um, I had been living in um like the suburbs of New Jersey for two years at that point, so I didn't really have like the the sounds of like you know, car accidents and people yelling and shit. So um, like I was used to in my upbringing. So um I just remember like not even having the windows open in Baltimore, but because that Airbnb was right off of like that main highway, I would always hear like cars going by. I'm like, I even have Ruby on my bed because like that's when her cataracts weren't so bad. And she would lay at like the edge of the bed and she would like hear like a truck go by or something, and she would like perk her head up and look. And I just remember being like, Oh, Ruby, look, she's alive, like she's so attentive. For being like, I think she was 15 at that point, 16. So, like, yeah, she was 16. So I don't know. Like, I just I I remember like just laying in bed in Canton, you know, that's the town where I was staying in Baltimore, and I just remember being like, I love this, like yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Just I love you little Airbnb that you love that Airbnb so much.
SPEAKER_00It's I think it's still being rented out too, which is really just convenient for you know future plans.
SPEAKER_05Okay, in case we have you want to go back to the tiki bar?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I love that night. They had buffalo cauliflower, it was great.
SPEAKER_05I don't even remember what we ate. I just remember being there, being at the bar, and like it was just such a pretty setting, you know. The the tiki bar and the marina, it was really pretty.
SPEAKER_00It was spring, we were on the water, we went back to your Airbnb, we drank and smoked. It was just it was the best time, and yeah, I mean, like that night kind of ended like kind of weird, but like, yeah, yeah. But up until that point, like it was just wholesome.
SPEAKER_05I think we talked about that on on the Patreon episode, actually. That whole Baltimore trip.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so then we must have like talked about that ending and like where we ended up. Oh, oh no, no, no, I mean like that specifically, yeah. When my sister called me and she was like, I'm dying, come to the hospital, and me, like I'm so paranoid when I smoke, which is why I barely do. But it was a very stressful time in my life, and I was like, Yeah, you know what? I'm with friends, I feel safe, I'm not leaving.
SPEAKER_05Right because we weren't planning to leave the the apartment. Nope, because it was like we had the two bedrooms, and it was just the three of us, so like them two shared a room, and I had the other room to myself, yeah so you probably would have just bunked with me, or there was a couch, like there was you know, there was just plenty of room, you know, yeah, right. It wouldn't be the first time you and I bunked together, so no, right. Like, I don't know. I think I feel like people of like I know we're technically not the same generation, but but that's just what it is, like we don't think twice about sharing a bed, and it's so funny.
SPEAKER_01Why would I?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, the only reason I like I even think about it is because um for my daughter's birthday, I was like, if you want, you know, just have your friends and they can stay over, and you know, I'm like, I know that the basement is still not finished, but we'll throw the air mattresses down there, and you know, each air mattress sleeps two people, and she just looked at me like they have to share.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, like that's so funny.
SPEAKER_05And it was it wasn't even a question.
SPEAKER_00I know it was exciting to not have space at night.
SPEAKER_05I know at night, yeah, and like you have a queen size air mattress, and you're okay, uh different, different kids, I guess, but yeah, maybe that's like a COVID side effect that they're just like you. I don't who knows, I don't know, but yeah, no, but um that night that night was fun, and I would definitely go back to Baltimore, and it's just like going back to how that even started, it's amazing the sounds that we find comforting. I mean, I I grew up literally next to a highway, I grew up three houses in from the BQE, like right next to the battery tunnel. So the my my apartment building shook when a truck passed, like like legit shook.
SPEAKER_00But how it was almost like being rocked, you know, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05And there were times where like if there was like an especially big truck passing, this the ceiling we we didn't have a lot growing up, and the ceiling was not quite all bare. Um, but there were times where like at night it'd be like real quiet, and like you would hear like like a pitter patter, and it was pieces of the ceiling falling down.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, from the vibrations, that's so funny.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, just like tiny little pieces hitting the floor, and you'd be like, Oh, okay, but it was in the next room, so it was like, okay, cool, it's not on me, it's just it's just over there. Like, we're good, we're still good. Um, I'm okay in my bed. It's the next room.
SPEAKER_00It was like the same spot every time you're like before bed, you're like, let me put the plate there to catch the ceiling.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, because you know, that like the railroad apartment, so there was there were no doors to the room. So where where my room was would have been a dining room, and where the ceiling was not so there was the kitchen. So it was like the opening was was wide, but you see how here the the two doors, it was wider than that, because the it was just like the the length, not the whole room, right? But maybe maybe like from the the end wall to like the window, okay. So it was it was just open, and that room would have been the kitchen had it been like not our bedrooms, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because you had the apartment upstairs, yes. Oh no, well, you were upstairs, you had the apartment downstairs, right?
SPEAKER_05Okay, and so because there was like no door or whatever, and like my room had like this this horrible carpet, but the quote unquote kitchen had uh linoleum, I guess. Um, you know, you you hear it, and that's where the plumbing was. So like water damage is is what fucked up the ceiling, or technically her floor from the get, but but yeah, and so like my my bed was like you know, eight feet away from that space, so you know you heard it. I were I hear I heard everything static y sound in the middle of the night.
SPEAKER_00You're like, I know what that is.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so you know, whatever. Good times, good times.
SPEAKER_00It's the it's the ambient noise at night.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, let me tell you, like, even even the last place we lived, like by the firehouse, and and we were still pretty close to the highway.
SPEAKER_00So it was a firehouse by you?
SPEAKER_05Well then. Right off the highway ends.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay, yeah. It was like down the block from you, but it was very much like by you stuff.
SPEAKER_05It was right, like right where the the entrance slash exit to the highway was. Yep, it was right there, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05So it was like not even a half a mile away.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was like five-ish blocks, especially if they were trying to get to the expressway or something, like they would have to pass you all the time.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and so you know, like at night, especially when it would be you know quieter, and you'd hear like the trucks passing on the avenue, the motorcycles, the fire engines, and it's like Yeah, it was always the motorcycles at night, yeah. It's just soothing and never it never bothered me.
SPEAKER_00Oh I can like literally, like as you said, the motorcycles, I could literally picture my childhood, like laying in bed, windows open, summer, like hot summer breeze coming in, and hearing like and like just fading, like as it's going down Richmond Avenue, Richmond Hill Road, because I lived off Orient Hill Road.
SPEAKER_05Every like every morning when Alinda leaves for her bus here. So I usually just kind of like I I get up to wake her up, but it's super early, so I kind of like lay on the couch and I'm awake, but I'm not like functioning, you know.
SPEAKER_00I'm just kind of like you're doing your coffee and contemplation.
SPEAKER_05I'm not even up to coffee yet. I'm I'm like, I'll turn on my my phone and like listen to something and lay down and just you know, whatever. So like I know when she gets out of the shower, make sure like she's still keeping time and that she leaves on time. And her bus is literally right across the street. But so then when she leaves, I always listen for the bus and I can see the reflection of the bus in the door.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So even if I'm laying on the couch, I could see it and I know, but I can hear it. And then in the morning, sometimes Alex will come down and he's like, Oh, is that her bus? I'm like, No, that's the Mustang. Like, it was the Mustang. I'm like, I know the sounds, I know what goes by this block every morning. I already know what to listen for. I know what drives by and when. First it's the Mustang, then it's the school bus. Oh my god. And this morning I'm like, damn, they were both late.
SPEAKER_00Wow. You look at your clock and you're like, oh, you watch, and you're like, oh yeah, yeah. Maybe I'm just up early.
SPEAKER_05No, no, no, because her butt, like her bus usually comes at the same time, and so it's like I know, like, if I when once I hear the Mustang, because that Mustang is loud as fuck for no ungodly reason at 6 32 in the morning.
SPEAKER_00So obnoxious. I mean, like that early. I mean, like, look, nighttime with the motorcycles, different story, it's different, but morning with the Mustang.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, what like at 6 30 in the morning? Literally 6 32 in the morning.
SPEAKER_00Why I mean like you can bar without like exactly at least like wait until you get to the highway, but whatever.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, there was an sidebar. I'm in a Facebook group for my neighborhood. Oh my god, there was this whole discussion about the Mustang.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god.
SPEAKER_05Because somebody complained, and they were like, Whoever's kid that is driving, maybe you should ask them to be more careful because they're going very fast in the morning, and you know, over here there's barely any street lights, there's no sidewalks, and they're like kids are walking to the school bus. It's a recipe the disaster, you know. Yeah, and so anyway, the lady who is the parent literally went and and replied to every single one of the posts. That's my kid, and my kid doesn't speed, and but and I'm like, I I'm not in, I even I wrote, I was like, I'm not in the car, I can't tell you what speed they're doing, but I can tell you it's loud as all hell in the morning, and I'm pretty sure it is not going 25 miles an hour. I if I had if I was a betting woman, I would take that bet because it's not doing 25, like it's definitely going at least 30-35 miles, and it's true though, in the in the morning, especially in the winter when it's dark, these kids are walking.
SPEAKER_00I mean, also just like patches of ice, like hello.
SPEAKER_05Well, right, anything can happen, anything could happen. But this lady, this lady was like, My son is a responsible driver. She literally was like, I live so and so. If you want to come to my house and have my son take you for a ride in his car, I mean, I won't say no.
SPEAKER_00You're like, No, thank you. And I'm like, I'll go take a ride in the Mustang.
SPEAKER_05And then she was like, at one point, she was like, I don't know what you're talking about because my son didn't even have his car. And I was like, actually, today it was a white Mustang instead of a black Mustang. And then she was like, Oh, well, he did drive his brother's car today.
SPEAKER_00Seabitch, how many fucking mustangs do they have? Right now they got three.
SPEAKER_05Well, at least two.
SPEAKER_00You said white, black, and yellow.
SPEAKER_05No, I didn't say yellow.
SPEAKER_00I thought you said yellow. Oh, maybe I thought it was yellow because we were talking about school bus, and you're like, nope, not that yellow, the other yellow.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, no. And she was just like, Oh, yeah, that was his brother's car. Like, I don't give a fuck, lady. I don't want to come to your house. I don't want to ride in his Mustang. I've been driving for longer than your fucking kid has been alive. I am good. I just need him to like not be so fucking loud in the morning when I'm trying to close my eyes. That's all. Don't you really and maybe not run over my kids. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00No, I mean, like, look, like, I completely understand your concern for your children and their safety, and the same thing with the rest of your neighbors, but like, don't you really feel like you're in Jersey now? Like arguing over some like bullshit, like dumb issue that like it's not a hundred percent dumb, but like think about it. Suburban people arguing over car noise and mourning.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I know. I know.
SPEAKER_00It's cute, it's really cute.
SPEAKER_05And and like I don't want to say too much because I don't need like stalkers from Alabama coming to get me after last time. But at the end, there's there's a pretty um populated road a few blocks down the other way, there's another like main thoroughfare. Take your noise there, nobody fucking cares over there.
SPEAKER_00That's what I mean.
SPEAKER_05Like even right, you don't have to be on the on the like residential streets doing that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I don't know. There's definitely areas where if they have to like rev to like maybe I don't know, don't you rev to just get like the extra like gasoline or some shit? Like get like the juices flowing, pretty much, right? Like you could take your car, the literally like two-minute drive to the main thoroughfare to get the juices out there.
SPEAKER_05I don't know because my car goes from point A to point B without me having to rev it. So I'm not really sure. Then again, I don't drive a Mustang, I drive a Honga, but I'm surprised the mom didn't come on there.
SPEAKER_00She's like, Maybe you just don't know how to drive a nice car. Yeah, maybe you know, like super pretentious as fuck.
SPEAKER_05But no, yeah, she was like, My kids have a job and my kids work hard and they bought their car with their own money, and they'll take you. Yes, I don't give a fuck. I don't give a fuck if if the magical Mustang fairy dropped the car on your roof, I just don't want to hear it. Yeah, I just don't want to hear people move out here for peace and quiet.
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_05If I wanted my building to shake, I would still live on Woodhull Street, like you know, yeah.
SPEAKER_00No, I know, I know what you mean. Oh wow, yeah, that was a nice little trip down memory catch up about drama.
SPEAKER_05Oh my god, we that's so sidetracked.
SPEAKER_00That's okay.
SPEAKER_05But we did finish the episode.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, we did.
SPEAKER_05We did, yeah.
SPEAKER_00The final scene was just like Pia talking to um Ben, the reporter, and the the picture burning. What did I say?
SPEAKER_05Pia.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I don't know anymore.
SPEAKER_05You drunk off of your pre-wine.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, pre-wine, and I'm also painting my nails at the same time. So I have um nail polish fumes and pre-wine.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05But um next episode. Did you see the title for the next episode?
SPEAKER_00It's called The Reporter.
SPEAKER_05The Reporter.
SPEAKER_00I know, and now we get to learn a little bit more about Ben. He seemed like an interesting character, but we had a touch, but I mean, like, that's just his job. So I don't want to put that totally on him, but he chose the profession.
SPEAKER_05So the first time I watched the series, I was surprised that there was an episode that focused on him. But it was a good episode. So I do think the storyline.
SPEAKER_00Like it's an eight-episode limited series, like every episode should count. But like it you had to say, and I don't I was trying to I really enjoyed this episode, so I was just looking ahead at the titles, but then after I read the reporter, I didn't want to go too far. I was like, nope, that's it. Um uh what's oh I'm sorry, I got a toxic. Um, so I have a switch of thought.
SPEAKER_05You said you you looked at the titles, but you didn't want to go too far ahead after you saw the reporter.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I was thinking to myself, like, I'm sure like that as we get closer to episode eight, each title is gonna get like closer and closer to like Nick's inner circle. I think we've like we've kind of said that too. Which episode? And that's this is me saying I don't know the rest of them after episode five. Um, which episode would you take out and you feel like it wouldn't really hurt the series? Would it be the reporter? Because I have a feeling this episode's good, but it's not really gonna contribute as much as this episode did.
SPEAKER_05I don't think you can take any of them out.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so that's good.
SPEAKER_05Because I think that the reporter helps you get to the episode after that.
SPEAKER_00I like that.
SPEAKER_05You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00Just like how the last episode and this episode really connected, right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so you you need them to get from one to the next. Yeah, so it's a little like you know, weird, right?
SPEAKER_00Because like the reporter, but but yeah, yeah, and like maybe like you know how last episode picked up like right from uh like the last kind of like scene that we saw. It like kind of went right into that. Okay, so I wonder if episode five will like pick up in the interview between Emma and Ben. Yeah. Also, let's talk about Matt now. Now that we discussed everything, let's have a very brief conversation about Matt. He's fucking shady as fuck. His behaviors last episode and this episode really just point me in the direction that like he has very much something to do with Nick's murder. Whether he collaborated on it, whether he was an accessory to it, like he did something. He was involved in some way. Okay, because he's just disgustingly shady. I think maybe like he maybe he was aware of the abuse that he did to the volleyball girls, which we don't know that that was like fully a thing yet, but it was kind of hinted at last episode, and maybe he like helped to orchestrate his murder because the volleyball girls did it. I don't know. That's kind of going like out like like crazy because like why would any of the okay anyway, I don't want to get too ahead in that thought. But then I was thinking like maybe maybe he was upset in the way that like Nick was abusing the volleyball girls. Like maybe Nick would like do something. I mean, like they traveled together, they probably scouted the girls on our team, and so maybe when they were scouting, they would do some like dumb shit, like, oh, we like you, but you know, and you know, and so Nick would Nick would take advantage of these like very vulnerable, like most likely like 18-year-olds, like it's a college, like they're probably going from high school to college, like disgusting pain. And and maybe Matt was fully aware of what was going on and got really, really upset about everything, and then decided to do something about it when maybe somebody in Matt's inner circle was affected. And that kind of goes back to the whole idea of like when Matt said to Pia that um if Matt ever got too close, like if Nick said if Matt ever got too close to Pia that he would like smack him up in the head and beat him with a two by four, right? And so maybe it's like vice versa, like maybe maybe Matt snapped on Nick for the way that he was treating women, or because he did something to somebody in his circle, just like if Matt did something something to someone in Nick's inner circle, you know? So I don't know. I just I know he's involved somehow, and he's making it really obvious, like especially with that like shooing the volleyball player off yeah in the last episode.
SPEAKER_05It's it's sketchy, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But I know he's involved because he's making it very obvious. So hopefully I'm right. Because I'd like to be right, but at the same time, if I'm not right, I'd love to see the way this unfolds because they're they're giving us these characters because one of them fucking did it or had a hand in it, and so it's just like I'm seeing Andrea, that fake ass bitch mother. I'm seeing Sophie like act like she's not a square, but she really is, but like maybe she's not. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03But let me ask you a question what if it's none of them?
SPEAKER_00Why would it be none of them? Why would nobody have any clue? Like, we had to run, like especially at the memorial, we had to have run into the person by now.
SPEAKER_05Because that fucks with your head more.
SPEAKER_00I guess. I mean, like maybe it's someone who we will be introduced to. I just don't understand the point of it being an eight-episode show, and we're already halfway through, and we haven't met or interacted with the murderer or somebody on the team of the murderer. I don't think it was one person, I don't think one person could have found the rarest and could have got the tarp, could have wrote out the cue cards. Like, and where the fuck is Pia's roommate? Right? Isn't her handwriting on the cards, or maybe?
SPEAKER_05Pia's roommate is MIA.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, maybe she was someone who got abused by her brother too, and she was trying to act like she wasn't. I don't know. Who knows?
SPEAKER_05I like all these theories you're spouting.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I just like whatever's on the lungs, on the tongue right now with this show. But like that's where I think of like really good ideas when I just let like my brain pour, you know. There you go. Yeah, but I just I don't know. I don't know. I'm like in the show a lot. I just feel like if the last episode is something like The Stranger, like it's called like the stranger, but and like I said, I I didn't see like the last, like um, I don't know what episodes six, seven, and eight are called.
SPEAKER_05No, but the the last episode, um, it doesn't matter if I tell you. The last episode is called The Answer.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. So I think I did see that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's it doesn't matter. Like you you wouldn't have it ruined for you.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so I'm gonna guess episodes six and seven, their titles. So we start off with the sister, the wife, the I missed one.
SPEAKER_06The detective.
SPEAKER_00Thank you. The sister, the detective, the wife, the mistress, the reporter for episode five. Maybe episode six is called like the the student, and episode seven's called like the best friend, and episode eight's called like the answer or something like that.
SPEAKER_05Well, you got one of them right.
SPEAKER_00Oh, probably like episode seven's totally the best friend. Or maybe that's episode six. I don't know. Matt has his own standalone episode somewhere where he literally has blood on his hands, like oh my god. He's definitely he's gotta be in it. He had to have like uh I don't think no. I was gonna say maybe Vincent's involved. I don't know. No, because he pointed Pia in the right direction. I don't know. I just don't I know it for sure it's not Pia. I I mean like look, I I'm probably wrong, but I really feel like it can't be Pia. I really feel like it can't be Sophie. I feel like maybe Ruby. I don't know. Um maybe Ruby had like a part in this, which I don't know if Sophie would ever forgive her. Um but Ruby seems to be um aware and keen of things because Ruby was aware of the fact that Sophie was cheating on Nick without Sophie even saying it. Isn't that kind of like what we learned in last episode?
SPEAKER_01Well like I know something that she wasn't supposed to.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but how do we know Sophie didn't tell her? Like previously, like when it happened.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, maybe I don't know. The way that the conversation seemed was that Ruby put pieces together to something that Sophie didn't explicitly tell her, and then was surprised that her mom didn't react when she explicitly told her, and she was like, How'd you know? Like, or you knew, or something like that. Like, I feel like that interaction happened where Ruby already had her time to react in private, and then when she was finally like, she I don't know. Okay, I'm gonna stop there. I also remember what I wanted to say before. Um, the fact that this trauma from Nick's childhood keeps getting brought up. Um, I don't think it's the father's death, I don't think it's his dad's death because Sophie mentions to the funeral director that they excuse me, they stopped going to church when Nick's father passed away, or when he became ill, which I'm assuming he passed away. Um which means that like he knew Sophie at that point. So that's not the trauma that they went through, but maybe they were in a very abusive household. I don't know. I'm sure like the trauma is gonna be discussed at some point. Is the trauma ever brought up? Is that like a giveaway?
SPEAKER_05It it's not it's brought up.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Like we know what happens, what the trauma is.
SPEAKER_05Okay, yeah, you'll find out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because the fact that it was brought up a couple times now, especially like Emma, a complete stranger, pretty much, besides her six months knowing Nick, which how many times did he visit her in that six months? Maybe they were together like four times. I could see him like getting away with it four times, maybe five times.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I don't I don't I don't know if they ever say how many times he went to Los Angeles.
SPEAKER_00But think about how many times he could get away with going to LA in six months, right? Yeah, it's just weird, but um right.
SPEAKER_05It's not like going from Brooklyn to Manhattan.
SPEAKER_00That's what I mean. Like if she flew, that means he had to fly.
SPEAKER_05I don't know what the distance is, but I know Oakland is like by San Francisco, and San Francisco is pretty far north.
SPEAKER_00That's like five hours, two and a half, three hours from the LA area, isn't it?
SPEAKER_05I would think it's more than that.
SPEAKER_00Let's see, maybe it's like five hours. California is a big ass state. Let's see.
SPEAKER_05I mean, unless that's just like the New Yorker in me, thinking like if I was going upstate, I wouldn't fly, I'd drive.
SPEAKER_01That's true.
SPEAKER_05And and that's like three to four hours easy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, okay. Hold on, I'm getting directions too.
SPEAKER_00Oh, five hours 17 minutes by car, and so that's not that much. Oh, I started it's okay, it's not that much for you and me, but for the normal person, like they rather fly than drive that.
SPEAKER_05I guess.
SPEAKER_00Like, I'm just thinking like Syracuse, I would say let's fly.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but if you're yeah, you're going from Los Angeles to Oakland and then it's like you gotta fly, you gotta rent a car, just drive five fucking hours.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and she has a car, right?
SPEAKER_05Like, yeah, maybe that's just broke bitch talk, but yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Well, I wonder if I feel like I should go back and watch this episode one more time. I wonder if I wonder if the car that she drove, like Netflix also used for the one that she like rented and just didn't what's that called again? Like where they don't keep up with like the times. That there's a name. Um starts with the C. Like not um oh what's it called? Keeping um not counter you said it before. Like if somebody's continuity, yeah, continuity.
SPEAKER_05Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like I wonder if Netflix kept continuity and they use like the same correct same license plate for Emma's car.
SPEAKER_05Oh my god, that would be funny.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's like a dark gray Nissan or some shit.
SPEAKER_05But maybe her maybe her car in Los Angeles is a green SUV.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I feel like that's like a very like Matt vehicle.
SPEAKER_05Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I feel like that's Matt's car.
SPEAKER_05I could see that.
SPEAKER_00Yo, imagine it was the van.
SPEAKER_05But just to play devil's advocate, if it was Matt's car, when they said it's a green SUV, wouldn't Pia be like, wait, Matt drives a green SUV. My roommate drives a green SUV or whatever.
SPEAKER_00Maybe she didn't, and I was waiting for Pia's reaction too, and I was waiting for her to be like, isn't that Matt's? And I think we see his vehicle at one point where um in the detective at the end of the detective when he drops Pia off at her apartment. Um, I wanted to go back and check, but I didn't. Okay, but maybe she just didn't say because maybe she was like in shock or not putting it together, or maybe she's involved now. No, she can't be. Why would they kill Nick so they could be together?
SPEAKER_01That wouldn't happen.
SPEAKER_00I don't know.
SPEAKER_06I'm not answering.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, it's time to end the episode. It's time for me to watch the detective and then be like, Lisa, why can we record again? I need to watch episode six.
SPEAKER_05I didn't think I would at first. I didn't think I would either. It's legit clickbait because it fucking sucks you in.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm invested. I'm very much invested right now, and that's probably because of like the whole like Black Mirror-esque um like vibe to the first episode with the whole like um streaming to your death, you know. I mean, if he never got to five million views, he wouldn't have died, right? So it's one would assume, yeah. It's the public and social media that in a sense like took him down. Killed him, yeah. Which I just think is such an interesting concept. Don't say that. You're trying to trick me, but it's true. I mean, unless, like, in the answer, they have the person handcuffed and they're like, and I would have got away with it too, if we didn't hit five million hits.
SPEAKER_05If it wasn't for those meddling social media viewers, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I don't know. I'm sure in the next episode we're gonna see something with Ethan and his internet friend, too. Or um a scary internet person.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. I almost forgot about Al 2005.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I thought at first that that was the first person that texted um Sophie, the one that was like, it should have been you, you horrible like bitch or whatever they said. Yeah, first text, that first unknown text. Um I thought it was that, and then I realized like it probably would have popped up as that.
SPEAKER_05I it I thought I heard noise, but it must have been like the wind or the rain.
SPEAKER_00No, it's okay. Oh, it's okay, but yeah, so I don't know. I'm excited to watch the next episode again. I'm on the edge of my seat, and I like this. I know, I know. I really like will I come out with some kind of answer in the next episode, or is it all mystery leading up to the end?
SPEAKER_05I don't know, I'm not telling.
SPEAKER_01Alright, I'm gonna have to watch to find out.
SPEAKER_05So earlier in the episode, we teased something about the doll.
SPEAKER_00Yes, the doll.
SPEAKER_05The doll.
SPEAKER_00Can I say what the doll is now?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So the doll is um the title of the like episode seven of season two of curbing enthusiasm, which is one of my favorite episodes of the whole series. I'm going through like, I think this is my second time watching the full series, and I happened upon this episode the other night, and I was like, holy shit, this is so wrong, which makes it so funny. Like, hey Lisa, did you ever see this episode? And Lisa doesn't watch curb. Um, everybody I know watches curb, like, pretty much like everybody in my circle. Like, I talk about it a lot with like my boyfriend's family. My parents, I I remember growing up, my parents would watch curb. So this is my mom's favorite episode, too. So it just made it like even more special, even though it's so wrong. And um, I was like, Lisa, you have To watch this, like react to it, it's crazy, and we kind of came up with a cute little idea, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so we are going to post some bonus feature, bonus material. What is wrong with me?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. We'll call it like Sassin's step extra. Yeah, so anyway, bonus material.
SPEAKER_05There you go. I think I need more wine.
SPEAKER_00Um double shot of Sassin's tip. Yes.
SPEAKER_05So the goal is that every month uh we're going to each pick a show. And it could just it could be any show, any episode. It doesn't matter if we've seen it, we haven't seen it. It could it could be like episode five. Um, I'm sorry, like season five. It doesn't even matter. Just like we said, a bonus. And we're gonna throw those episodes on Patreon. So the first episode that we're going to do is the curb your enthusiasm. So if you are a Patreon patron, you have access to those episodes. So the goal, the goal is to do two a month, right? So like one my pick, one your pick. Yeah, um, at least, at least two a month. I mean, who knows? Maybe if it works out, we could do more, but um, but yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I think honestly, like just from like any series that you can kind of just like pick up an episode and really know what's going on without too much of like a heavy storyline. I feel like if we have suggestions to really get episodes, like let's say um, like friends, that's an easy show that you can just like you've seen friends so many times, I've seen it too many times, and so they're like for the most part, you could pick up on an episode and everybody knows all the characters' names, so like you you know they're dynamic just from like life, like everybody knows Ross and Rachel, right? So you could pick up on an episode and laugh because you kind of just understand the context from like just society, and it's just a funny watch, and you can react to it without being like, Oh, but like this didn't happen first, and like I don't I don't know this part, so it didn't make sense. Like, if our views could suggest shows like that and throw in like the funniest episode, like Lisa, like you were saying, it's always sunny. Yes, that's a show that like we know the four characters' name, well, five characters' names, and you know, some supporting ones, and you can pick up and be like, Wow, I feel like trash, yeah, right? That's like trailer park voice. That's like so many shows like that.
SPEAKER_05I I see your pick up a show at any point and follow along, and I raise you to it, doesn't even have to be. What if I pick up a serialized show and I just be like, here, watch this episode from you know season nine, and you don't know shit.
SPEAKER_00That's true, that would be but then one of us has to like know everything.
SPEAKER_05Well, if we've seen the show, yeah. I mean, okay, just just for shits and giggles, take friends, right? I mean, if you're if you're watching friends and you've never seen it before, and then you you pick up an episode like I don't know, episode seven. I mean, then by that point, like you know that there's you the person who's seen it knows that there's history between Ross and Rachel back and forth, the whole we were on a break shit, and you know, like the person who's watching if if if they're like living on Mars up until that point, that they don't know, but you can still be like, Oh, you know, this is this is the gist of it, you know, like they have history, and Monica and Chandler were friends, but now they're together, and Phoebe's a vegetarian and Joey likes sex, like you know, cool, done. Ross is a nerd, and Rachel likes fashion, Monica's a clean freak, Chandler makes inappropriate jokes, like, you know, whatever.
SPEAKER_00If there's someone who knows the show that can rationalize like the crazy things that the other person's saying, I think that's hilarious. I can see the opposite side of the coin.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and I think that in a way, like it would it would still be pretty funny if you watched a show that you've never seen and you have no fucking clue the context, and you're jumping in. I think it'd be funny to get that perspective, also. Like, could you imagine if you've never watched Game of Thrones and then you just kind of watch an episode from like like the Red Wedding?
SPEAKER_00Okay, so that's me. I I've I saw like the first three episodes of the first season back in like 2013, which I was late to the game already. So that would be me watching an episode being like, what the fuck is this shit? And who is this? And is this like a tradition? And you're just like, Oh my god, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05So I'm just saying, like, we don't even have to limit ourselves, the sky is the limit, and we can do whatever the fuck we want because we say so, and the uncertainty is fun, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like, like in Clickbeat, I know like I have to watch the next episode. Like, we know we're gonna talk, we know what we're gonna talk about ahead of time, right? I know in a couple of weeks we're gonna talk about the last episode, right? But like in a couple of weeks, I don't know what show we're gonna pick, and that's the fun part of it.
SPEAKER_05Uh-huh. Oh my god, we have to start thinking about a new show.
SPEAKER_00Maybe we won't have to do all the thinking, we could take some suggestions. That'd be fun.
SPEAKER_05We still have the suggestions from last time.
SPEAKER_00We do, we have the other show that we were gonna do instead of this one.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, but you have to stay tuned to figure out what that was.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we may just do that.
SPEAKER_05But yeah, so by the time you hear this episode, our first bonus episode should be available on Patreon. But if it isn't, uh then that's probably my fault because I got back up on editing. But just wait, but but just wait, and it will be soon.
SPEAKER_00In the meantime, you should watch that episode so this way you can like shit on it with us.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so it's episode season two, episode seven, and it's called The Doll. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Season two is interesting. Um curve, like later on, like we have some really interesting characters that aren't here yet. So the dynamics a little different, but still fucking hilarious.
SPEAKER_05And for for my pick, I don't know what episode, but I'm definitely gonna do an always it's always sunny episode.
SPEAKER_00Well, I always reference like the same five that I could remember.
SPEAKER_05So I have I have two, actually, I have three episodes in mind, like off the top of my head, and I just don't know which one of them I want to do.
SPEAKER_00Well, it can't be the Ponderosa wedding, it can't be Rumham, it can't be. I think I ate the crows, the Ponderosa wedding, because they got lost in the woods, if I'm remembering that right.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It can't be Halloween because when Dee slowly turns into a bird in the bathroom, like as everybody's memories memorizing her more as a bird, that shit gets me all the time. And bird, um, when they do a parody of like one flies over the cuckoo's nest. Shit's hilarious, and those are like all the episodes I can remember.
SPEAKER_05Oh, and like Damon. Okay, it might be one of those episodes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like the Nightman comment. I remember, I feel like I watched too many like compilations instead of just sitting down and just watching the show. But that shit's funny. Yeah, but this is gonna be a lot of fun. Yeah, I can't wait.
SPEAKER_05Me too. Me too. I'm gonna have fun like re-watching um sunny episodes. Like, oh, is it this one? Is it this one? Shall it be this one? I love Charlie, he's my favorite.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, slightly innocent soul.
SPEAKER_05So clearly, clearly, um, I think you already you can already anticipate that like my episode, any episode I pick will be focused on him.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, him and like his A story, yeah. Yeah, his fucking huffing sock.
SPEAKER_05Fucking Charlie.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05All right, let's let's like wrap this up because we're we're like on our like 75th tangent over here. Yep. In the meantime, while you guys wait for the next episode, please head on over to Sassinsips.com and all of our information is linked on there. SPEAKER_00Always drink responsibly. Remember, please do not drive, drink online. Yes, and if you would love to financially support us, you can give us a cup of coffee. Not not a bottle of night quail or day quail, like we said in the last episode. No, we're curious. We don't need lungs now. Yeah, no, we just need really like good coffee. So I need to oh, yeah. We need uh that what was that one called? Nineteen crimes. Was it 19?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I have I have a bottle of Cali Rent for us because the show is set in California, so I'm thinking maybe we'll save it for the finale.
SPEAKER_01I was just gonna say that. That's perfect.
SPEAKER_05Okay, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So we'll drink that one live.
SPEAKER_05So we have the finale covered, but if you wanna liquor us up in between, yeah, we still got three more episodes, and we have our little bonus shit.
SPEAKER_00So thank you in advance.
SPEAKER_05Yes, and until next time, I'm Lisa, I'm Brittany, and we are out of here.
SPEAKER_00Bye guys.
