Alright, welcome everyone to our first episode of Sassin's Sips, where every week we will be discussing and dissecting an episode of Lost in Order. We will do our best to avoid spoilers for those of you who would like to watch along with us. Neither of us are experts, just fans who like to drink and dish. And we're also amateurs at podcasting, which will explain our shitty audio quality. Thanks for listening. So I am Lisa. And I'm Agnes. And as you can tell, we are not in the same room, so please forgive the audio quality as we are still learning how to do everything, especially with remote recording. So what are you doing?
SPEAKER_01We're drinking in the same state. Never mind the same room.
SPEAKER_00I know it's true. So you got your drink? You ready to go?
SPEAKER_01I got my drink. I'm ready to stop and cyst and sip and sass.
SPEAKER_00Me too, girl. What you drinking?
SPEAKER_01I have my corona. Yes, a nice end-of-day drink.
SPEAKER_00Yep, I got a Stella.
SPEAKER_01Usually I'm the Stella girl. You're the Corona girl. We switched today.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. I I've been on my Stella kick lately. Alright. So today we are going to do episode one and two. Basically, both parts of the pilot. And we are going to just kind of go through it and talk about it and give our feedback and probably do some like making fun of them.
SPEAKER_01That's gonna be easy. So in case you guys couldn't tell, I was the one that has never seen it, and I was kinda hesitant to actually watch this, but I'm a trooper.
SPEAKER_00You're a good sport. You are a good sport because I love this show. And I I don't get how you never watched it. We're coming up on like 15 yeah, but basically 15 years since it premiered, and I can't tell you how many times I've watched it since then, and you have watched it exactly the one time I made you.
SPEAKER_01Well, uh to be fair, it was nothing it's the show per se. It just when it came on, it just wasn't on my radar. I had a lot of other shows to watch, I had a weird work schedule, and yeah, it just slipped through the cracks.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I get it. It happens, you know.
SPEAKER_01So it's not think it's you lost. I've nothing it's lost personally.
SPEAKER_00Alright. So the show opens, you see Jack's eye, and he's just kind of laying down, kind of, I guess maybe regains consciousness or comes to, and he's dis uh disoriented, he doesn't know where he's at, he he gets up, he's kind of like, okay, like where am I? And he uh walks over to the beach and he looks to the right and you see this beautiful beach, serene, the ocean, the sand, the trees. It's it's like your favorite destination for your vacation. And then you look to the left with him, and it's all hell breaks loose.
SPEAKER_01Sounds like my kind of party. But you always know when the opening scene is beautiful and peaceful, no good come of it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Everyone knows. So it's not much of not much of a surprise whether you knew what the show was about to begin with or not.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I gotta tell you though, this is maybe a little bit of a spoiler, but my whole episode, I was working on Vincent. I'll leave it at that. Vincent was my only concern for episode one, totally.
SPEAKER_00I I still wonder about sometimes Vincent and how he managed I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yes, we both yes, I know conspiracy theories on Vincent's.
SPEAKER_00Okay, he's a big dog. And they I mean, I've never flown with any of my animals, but I always thought that they had to put them in the crate and underneath. So he survived being in the the cargo area, but also he let himself out of his crate.
SPEAKER_01I mean Well, I mean, f okay, let's let's assume even in TV world that the cargo area of the plane survived that kind of crash. Really? Maybe the thumping and the grinding, the shaking broke the crate. Because those crates aren't made of glue. Like, you know, they have like little plastic nails that kind of snaps in, you know. So it doesn't take much to a crash or loosen that up.
SPEAKER_00Alright. So for TV's sake, the crash loosened the cage.
SPEAKER_01Yes, because it survived the cargo area survived the crash landing. Yeah. Okay, we'll go with that.
SPEAKER_00Alright. So fine. That's the crash. In the first in the first scene, you see him like jump over Jack's face, like, oh okay.
SPEAKER_01So like anymore in my household, okay.
SPEAKER_00Right away, Jack kind of jumps into action and he's like saving everyone and you know, worrying about um Claire who's pregnant.
SPEAKER_02Yes, Claire.
SPEAKER_00Yes, at her name. Yeah, and then um there's the man who's under the wheel, and then you see the guy who gets sucked into the the engine and explode.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So segue to my darkness of my mind.
SPEAKER_00Uh-uh.
SPEAKER_01The first 30 seconds of this show, like I'm thinking, okay, one, well, Vincent comes along later. But there are way too many survivors for this to be a good show. Like, we always we all know for a good show, people need to get killed off. And the amount of survivors, I like them to get killed off. So I just want to my thing is like, oh, how are they gonna kill these people off? So yeah. Well then that's how dark I am. I'm dark and twisty.
SPEAKER_00Well, anyway, after he saves everyone on the beach, he um then he goes to take care of himself, and that's where he meets Kate. Kate. Oh, Kate.
SPEAKER_01Kate.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we'll talk I'll talk more about Kate later on this episode.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I know you will. So he he sees her and he asks her to help him sew up his wound. So now this is okay, so this is all happening day one on the island. And yes, I I like while I take my notes, I write what day it is.
SPEAKER_01Wow. Okay. You're very disciplined. I thought I'd such a slacker.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes.
SPEAKER_01You're gonna have to fire your co-host. She's just living.
SPEAKER_00So okay, it's kind of like the end getting to the end of the first day. You see people on the shoreline, and the sun is beginning to set, and um, there's a character who we do not know his name yet. Well, you know his name because they said in the second episode, but Hurley. I'm gonna try really hard to not ruin characters' names for you if you don't know them yet. So Hurley is getting the meals from the plane, and he's trying to like take care of everyone. You see your favorite actor, Terry O'Quinn, who you don't know his name yet. Um he's just kind of sitting there peacefully staring out over the water. You see the other guy who's um who we don't know his name, the one the one who wanted to get the pens to like stab her in the throat. He's he's trying to get his signal on his flip phone.
SPEAKER_01Um Wow, I can't forget this is like uh 20 years old, but okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um, you know, and then blah blah blah, you get back to Jack and Kate, and she's all like nervous about sewing him up, and he tells her this awful story about um doing that operation and the nerves, and it was like the angel hair pasta. Or I think right, it was I think it was angel hair.
SPEAKER_01I haven't eaten angel hair pasta since I didn't episode. I just want to throw it out there. I'm not opposed to it, but you know, I do have some relationship um problems now when you pasta things.
SPEAKER_00Yes. And Cade's Cade's response is like, well, if it was me, I would have run. And I'm not gonna lie. That sounds really gross. I might lie, I might run too.
SPEAKER_01Um well, I would like to hope that any trained professional, whether they're new or not in the business, wouldn't run. Like, I would think that day when a med school they would have realized that they could have they would have ran from it, you know. I hope they don't get all the way the med school and internship and then feel like, oh yeah, intestines and nerves and all that other stuff grossed me out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, lesson here is you don't want me operating on you.
SPEAKER_01Meant to know, duly note it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So now it's like the first night. Shannon's giving herself a pedicure.
SPEAKER_01And what else is there to do on this deserted eye in your in your stranded? Like, I'm not I'm not good mad at her. Like, what else you're gonna do? Scream, yell, panic, walk around a daze?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but you're gonna get sand in your pedicure.
SPEAKER_01It's a new trend. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's ill.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's the worst place to stand can be than you're telling you a pedicure. I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_00Alright, duly noted. So you just see them all kind of settling into the night, basically, like for lack of a better way to say it. And um Hurley's giving them all food. He gives Claire an extra tray, which was very sweet. And then we see the Korean couple, and we don't we didn't get to know them much, but in Korean he's telling her not to leave his site, and that basically, like fuck the others. It's just we have to take care of each other, and she's she's just being obedient to him. I don't even think she says anything back. Oh, then we get to the man with the shrapnel, and he's got like that big ass shrapnel hanging out of his belly.
SPEAKER_01That's cool. That was totally cool.
SPEAKER_00And Kate Kate just wants to know if if he's gonna live. And Jack is like, oh, do you know him? And Kate's like, Well, I was sitting next to him on the plane. Like, uh you shady bitch. Yeah. You were sitting next to him. You failed to mention the fact that where you were in handcuffs and you were his prisoner.
SPEAKER_01Well, you just skipped a total episode. Like you just I know in the episode two.
SPEAKER_00Well, listen, uh we just said we were gonna do one and two, so it's not gonna be a surprise.
SPEAKER_01Okay, good point. Okay.
unknownGotcha.
SPEAKER_00So we know that from where Jack's little flying lesson that they were like forty thousand feet and he blacks out. Kate says she sees the whole thing, but that she couldn't look back when the half of the plane broke off.
SPEAKER_01Right, because when the plane is crashing and the half the plane is breaking off to make an attempt to look around you. But back to Jack.
SPEAKER_00Okay, back to Jack. Jack.
SPEAKER_01I'm I'm weary of him. Something about him makes the hands of my next stand up on the air. He's a doctor, he's a pilot. What is he? Dr. Lloyd, in chemistic maker, baker, right? I really come on.
SPEAKER_00Well, what was your expression? Jack of all trades, master of none of them.
SPEAKER_01Jack of all trades, master of none. Like it's just something like I think when your protagonist is Superman, it doesn't leave for a really exciting. So I'm hoping that there's twists and turns to come with him because right now he's just uh I don't know. I don't dislike him, but he's not my favorite either. Yeah, he needs to go. But they need to do something with that character.
SPEAKER_00Okay, well, you're just gonna have to keep watching.
SPEAKER_01Well, I guess I'm gonna have to keep watching then. I mean, not like I'm not going to.
SPEAKER_00So um they need to get the transceiver. If they had the transceiver, that maybe they can call for help. And Kate tells him that she saw smoke in the jungle, and so he wants to go looking for it, and Kate's a high core, so she wants to go.
SPEAKER_01Yes, Kate, Kate, Kate, Kate. Kate who goes from I'm afraid to even look at you, to I'm a badass hiker that's gonna lead the group. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Yeah. So actually this is by lie. Yeah. So this is where they formally like introduce themselves to each other. This is where we learn her name.
SPEAKER_01Well, welcome Kate to this group.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Right at that moment is when you hear the first sounds coming from the jungle where everyone just starts to pay attention.
SPEAKER_01Sounds like my stomach when I'm hungry.
SPEAKER_00But can it knock over trees?
SPEAKER_01I mean, it's dangerous to have a hungry diagnosis. It's not a good look for anybody.
SPEAKER_00And to me, what's funny is that they're all just standing around waiting to be dinner, and Charlie is like terrific. He's so fucking sarcastic. Like, I don't know. Uh-huh. So then we go from there to a flashback. And you see them on the plane, you see Jack is talking to Cindy, the flight attendant, whatever. She sneaks him a few extra drinks, and we see uh him talking to the woman who he needed to do CPR on. Charlie runs by, the turbulence starts, you see the oxygen mask come down, the alarm goes off, and then that's it, and the flashback. So you're like, okay.
SPEAKER_01So a little bit of trivia.
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure either people already know or don't care, but the plays black box are actually orange.
SPEAKER_00You told me that. But it makes sense.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because like who's gonna find a black box, a little black box, and a bunch of burnt up charred micro. So yeah, so it's bright orange, it has like reflector strips and all other stuff on it. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, maybe they should put one of those um like alarms on it, you know, where it makes sounds too. That'd be cool. Maybe they could do something like that. Because it could still transmit.
SPEAKER_01Well, maybe a silent transmission. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Imagine it if it's like I don't I don't know. I just can imagine a black box, like a like a large, like alarm going off, especially if it's an area that's not that far from where people live.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but then they would find it quickly.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but you'll find like every month they have a tornado alarm warning that they test, and every month I'm like, what the hell? Even though I know it's coming, I know it comes the first Saturday of every month at 1 p.m. But I'm always like, what the hell is that? So imagine it's like whoosh, crash, flames, and an alarm going off. Can you imagine?
SPEAKER_00But if the plane is crashing where it's populated, people would see it. But in cases of like if a plane goes down in a mountains or a desert or somewhere where it's not populated, then the noise would just I I would think, but what do I know?
SPEAKER_01I don't know either. I just work here. I just know that the colour box is on, and that is where my knowledge ends.
SPEAKER_00Oh where it ends. Alright, fair enough.
SPEAKER_01I know a lot of nothing.
SPEAKER_00Oh, oh wait, okay, so this is where, wait. This is where your favorite actor comes back into the picture.
SPEAKER_01He plays awesome characters.
SPEAKER_00He does.
SPEAKER_01Like, he really does. Um, what was that movie? He was in, I can't remember, oh, Copycat was Gordon Weaver, and he was I think that was like he just plays really great characters, and he was in 666 Park Avenue. Like, there's so many shows, I can't figure them all, but he plays awesome characters. I I I relate to him on so many different levels. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Well, this is where Kate Kate wants to go on her hike. She needs better shoes, so she takes them from the dead guy and he sees, and she's like watching him watch her, and then he smiles with the orange.
SPEAKER_01Love that guy.
SPEAKER_00And I thought it was funny, but she looked horrified.
SPEAKER_01Right, I didn't understand why she looked so horrified. I really didn't understand.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01I think maybe he took maybe because he took light of the serious of the situation that she's pillaging from a dead man. And he's just like, but I don't know. But the fact that she went from Miss Demure and afraid to touch blood to Miss MacGyver, I yeah, I I don't know. Let him laugh, let him s or let him have his orange smile, damn it. Oh, so take this the boots off the dead guy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and the the rest of them are all kind of huddled around each other, and they they're talking about the sound from the night before, because this is it's now the next morning. It's so it's like day two. They're talking about the sound, and basically they're they're all just they're all just BSing about what the sound was or whatever it sounded like. And um, Hurley comes over and he's like, he wants to do something about the fuselage because it's grim, and and he's like, you know, and he's trying to spell the word bodies, but he can't spell it, and the kid is like, are you trying to spell bodies?
SPEAKER_01Poorly. But he was aware he was trying to be he was trying to acknowledge that there were younger people around.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You know, gotta give him brownie points for that.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. And Charlie finds out that they're gonna go on a hike so to to find the cockpit, so he wants to go. And Kate, Kate is like to Charlie, she's like, Well, I recognize you from somewhere. And as usual, Charlie takes the opportunity to tell somebody he was in a band. And then he sings.
SPEAKER_01If I was in a band, I'll do the same thing. I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_00And then he sings his song, and I feel like we should drink every time he sings that song. Well, just a little.
SPEAKER_01Okay, just a little bit. Remember to drink responsibly, people.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so he's in the bands, he's in drive shaft, and uh, he's got the ring to prove it. Jack is unimpressed. He's like, let's just keep going. While Vincent, the dog, watches like a fucking stalker from the bushes.
SPEAKER_01I'm just glad Vincent is cat is safe. That's my main concern.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I mean, I've watched the whole thing, and it still always strikes me as odd that the dog is just kind of watching them from afar. Like, I have a dog. She runs towards people, she wants attention. This dog is like, nope, I'm good here. You go ahead.
SPEAKER_01He's Vincent is thinking, I'm not the one that cr that caused the crash. None of you people you all suspect. He's like, I didn't do it. So I don't blame him. I guess.
SPEAKER_00And then, oh, so now it starts pouring, like night and a day into night starts pouring, and everyone's kind of running for shelter. Charlie wants to know if this is normal, and your uh favorite actor is sitting there with his face up to the sky, like this is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
SPEAKER_01I think everyone needs a little mystery in their life, but he definitely brings that. Like he's all about the mystery. A little unpredictability, and you know, he keeps things interesting.
SPEAKER_00Shakes it up. Um when they oh, when they so when they get to the cockpit, the pl they go in, they're like climbing over dead bodies. Jack the hero doctor doesn't check FYI, which I mean. He just he just walks over them.
SPEAKER_01I mean unless you see like a head off a body or something, yeah I just think it's cursory just to check double check, you know, but that's just me. How about a TV? So I don't know about real life.
SPEAKER_00Um they get to the cockpit, they find the pilot. Oh, the the pilot's alive. Okay. So the pilot fills them in. Now we basically for our benefit, I guess. This is their easy way of explaining.
SPEAKER_01Right. I appreciated that, honestly.
SPEAKER_00So there's at least 48 survivors. It's been 16 hours. No one has come. Six hours into the flight. The radio went out, so no one could see them. They turned back around to land in Fiji, hit turbulence, and they were a thousand miles off course. So whoever's looking for them is looking in the wrong place.
SPEAKER_01Crash on TV.
SPEAKER_00So they got the transceiver, hear the noise, pilot gets snatched. That's what you get for being nosy. Like, what were you doing? They're like, oh worried, they're hiding, and the pilot's like, well, let me stick my face out the window. Um Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I yeah, that one left me kind of like, really? Okay. But you know, they had to they're doing what I said, they're clearing off the survivors. So you guys can't be too mad at them.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you're exactly right. Well, they run away, and then eventually they find the pilot's pin in the water. Kate and Charlie are looking at it, and then you hear Jack like, It's the pilot. And the pilot's mangled body is up in the tree. That's fucking.
SPEAKER_01And I see I wasn't too surprised to see him up in the tree. Like, whatever it was, uh you know, it came from above and uh over it, the cockpit, and the window just snatched him up. So obviously it was up high, whether it's big, flying, whatever the case may be. So it being a tree kind of makes sense.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I mean, from a human perspective, I'm with Charlie, and Charlie is like, guys, how does that happen? Because how the hell does that happen?
SPEAKER_01So I have a feeling that I'm one of those, like right now, Mike, hey, shit happens, it is what it is, what can you do about it? Well, just do what you can do and bug it. Um, I have a feeling when shit really hits the fan, I'm probably like useless. I I'm gonna be completely useless. I won't even know my name.
SPEAKER_00In the next in the next episode, in the pilot part two, it opens with them walking back and they're just trying to get the transceiver working. Charlie keeps asking about it, and then he mentions that he was getting sick in the bathroom. We get a flashback of Charlie on the plane. He's obviously agitated, and we find out that he had drugs on him, and he went to the bathroom to do them, and then to flush them, and then we realize that that's what he was doing the whole time in the cockpit. We see the Korean husband foraging for fish, and then he offers it to Claire who hasn't felt the baby move, and then she feels the baby move, and she she's like, touch, touch my belly. And Jin looks oh shit. I just said his name.
SPEAKER_01I didn't hear you, so you could just edit that out. Don't worry about it.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so he looks horrified at the thought of touching her belly, which I found kind of kind of refreshing. Only because the whole time you see him as like this jerk, like an asshole, and it just kind of added a little bit of humanity to his character.
SPEAKER_01You know, to be honest with you, I don't at first I was like, okay, what are these people up to? Something shady. There's something, and now I started thinking, I said, what if it's just something plain and simple, like maybe it's just cultural? The that vibe that we that you one may get from them, um, and maybe just a cultural thing that we just not grasping.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_01Or because this is lost, it maybe something totally different. But but you have a you have thought you have knowledge of the future of the show that I don't have.
SPEAKER_00That's true.
SPEAKER_01So you must take everything I say with a grain of salt and don't give away anything. Take notes of my genius so I can see how much I utterly failed by the end of the stage.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00In this episode, they find the handcuffs in the jungle. And so this is where we learn that somebody was a prisoner, you know.
SPEAKER_01They weren't mine.
SPEAKER_00I hope not.
SPEAKER_01No, I have mine right here.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Alright. And when when we get back to the beach, we see uh Sawyer and Saeed fist fighting because he's accused Sawyer is accusing Said of being a terrorist.
SPEAKER_01Fun times.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And Walt's dad, who's half-assing trying to get them to stop fighting, like, come on guys, come on guys, stop fighting. Who the rest of them are all just watching, because I guess there's no other entertainment on the island. You know, until Jack and Kate come and manage to break up the fight, because I don't know. I don't know why they could do it, but the rest of them can't.
SPEAKER_01Because that's what the script said. That's my answer for everything that I don't have an answer for.
SPEAKER_00Afterwards, we find out that Saeed, Said and Hurley are talking, and we find out that Said was fought in the Gulf War, and Hurley is like real excited about it. His friend fought. Come to find out, Said was in the Republican Guard, he fought on the other side. Hurley's like, okay. My bad. And then and then we get the scene with Kate, who's half naked, bathing in the sea in the salt water.
SPEAKER_01That was just that was scene kind of was like, was that necessary for this point? But it I it I kind of it went over my head. I ignored that scene.
SPEAKER_00And it didn't have much to do with anything except except maybe eye candy. I mean maybe. Alright. Oh, she gives she gives um Saeed the transceiver to fix because he was a communications officer. But he says that they need to get to a higher ground. Kate, the high core, I guess where she's going.
SPEAKER_01She's it's going to be Miss MacGyver, or I can't I can't think of a better character, but yeah. Miss badass. Electra wannabe, yes.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Kate's going on a hike. Jack, Jack doesn't want her to go and tells her she to run if she sees or hears anything, as if she was just gonna stay and be dinner, but whatever.
SPEAKER_01I I don't think she'd be that tasty of a meal, but okay.
SPEAKER_00But Jack can't go because he's gotta attend to uh shrapnel man. We see Walt reading a comic in Spanish. Did his dad is like, Oh, do you read Spanish? And he's like, No, I found it. Okay. And then says, Well, how are you a new dog when we get home? Since that's what he's upset about that his dog is missing.
SPEAKER_01I mean, poor dude. I totally got he got the answer wrong, but he tried. Like, he he's just like, Yeah, I kind of feel sorry for him. He tried.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. You got Charlie in the jungle getting high, and then Shannon and uh her brother also want to go on the hike because she wants to prove that she's not useless because she's been through trauma, because she was mean to somebody or something.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so we didn't talk about it, but is this the problem did she start screaming before now, or did it episode one of the of the past?
SPEAKER_00No, no, that was episode one, I think, where she's just screaming.
SPEAKER_01So she kinda lost her shit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And I really don't blame her. Let's be real, how many people have been in a brain crash? And do you rekeep you can't keep your head together? Well, maybe you can, but I really don't blame her for losing her shit, because I would have lost my shit a hundred times over. That being said, I have hope from her. Like there is something deep about this child that I know we're gonna end up liking. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01Alright.
SPEAKER_00Alright. So now we are coming upon my favorite part in the episode.
SPEAKER_01And which part is that, Lisa?
SPEAKER_00That's the part where Sawyer joins them on the hike, and as they're arguing, they hear a noise, and Sawyer whips out a gun and shoots a bear.
SPEAKER_01A mother freaking bear.
SPEAKER_00Not just a bear, but a polar bear.
unknownBut what kind of bear?
SPEAKER_00A polar bear.
SPEAKER_01A freaking polar bear. A mother freaking polar bear.
SPEAKER_00And they're just kind of like dumbfounded, like, it can't be a polar bear. It's a polar bear. But Kate turns around to Sawyer and she's like, where'd that come from? And he's like, I don't know. Bear village. I love him.
SPEAKER_01Oh, the fact that you get a such a kick out of it cracks me up.
SPEAKER_00I that scene just they're just kind of standing there shaking their head like it's a polar bear. Like all of them, just kind of like, yeah, like and then he's just like, bear village. And she's like, no, the gun. He's like, well, it came in handy because I just shot a bear.
SPEAKER_03That can't be a polar bear. Polar bear is a jackpot. No, polar bears. Don't give me a spot. This one does.
SPEAKER_01What happened?
SPEAKER_03Probably bear bullet. Oh, I got it off one of the body. One of the bottom. One of the body. There was one on the plane.
SPEAKER_02How do you look at it?
SPEAKER_03I saw a guy lying there with an ankle bolster. So I took the gun. Thought it might come in handy. Guess what? I just shot a bear.
SPEAKER_01So why do you think he's a marshal?
SPEAKER_03Clip on back. I took that too. Thought it was cool.
SPEAKER_00I just like that scene. Oh, but then Kate missed, I don't know if I could sew you up and I'm so innocent. Does her badass move and takes the gun off of him in some ninja move? And then she's like, Well, how do you work this thing?
SPEAKER_01How do you think the billets? Yeah. Okay. And then the guy's directions were okay, if you know if you're familiar with the gun enough to get his directions, you're familiar enough with the gun to unload it. So I call bullshit on that whole thing, but that's just to me. Because he's like, you see the button on the side? This okay, that button is hard to see. If you know what you're looking for, you can't see the button. It's a black button on a black gun. Like she just does it so effortlessly. Right.
SPEAKER_00I'm not that familiar with guns, but even the few times that I've gone to the range, I wouldn't know. Honestly, I wouldn't even have known to do that.
SPEAKER_01It's it's yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, uh whatever, it looks cool on TV.
SPEAKER_01I guess. It just things like that kind of bug. It's not that and I don't think I I didn't take it as uh production oops. I took it as this chick is shady. You're full of it. You know what I mean? It's yeah, it's a her thing, not a show thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And um, so when when she questions him about the gun, he tells her that he took it off the marshal, and she's like, Well, how did you know it was a marshal? He's like, Because I had because he had a badge too, and I thought it was cool.
SPEAKER_01Oh, awesome.
SPEAKER_00I'm like, that like that's such like a little kid thing to do. Like, look it's a badge, it's cool.
SPEAKER_01Well, you can see it. I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_00Oh, we forgot to talk about your actor. So he's playing backammon, and Walt Walt walks up to him and is like, is it like Checkers? And he's like talking to him, and he's telling him about it's two players, two sides, one light, one dark, and that it's cooler than Checkers. And then he asks him if he wants to know a secret, but we don't get to hear what it is.
SPEAKER_01I wanna know a secret.
SPEAKER_00Do you know how to play backgammon?
SPEAKER_01Absolutely no idea. Me either. Like, I don't have the foggiest. I just know I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I really enjoy playing games, board games and things like that. I've never played. I have no idea how to play.
SPEAKER_01I don't even know what it even who even asked. Like, I don't I guess I have to Google it.
SPEAKER_00We're getting to the end of the episode, and then that's when you see Kate on the plane and you realize that she's the prisoner.
SPEAKER_01Dun dun dun!
SPEAKER_00Like, what is she? Oh, have a sip. Hold on. Okay. And then you gotta wonder, what the fuck did she do? Well, you gotta tune in.
SPEAKER_01But to the rest of but but but sorry.
SPEAKER_00But um, yeah, the next episode is a K episode.
SPEAKER_01So we're gonna find out more. Alright, good. I can't wait.
SPEAKER_00But like she's over here being Go ahead.
SPEAKER_01No, we gotta actually don't forget Shannon. She becomes very useful. The girl that I knew I had hope for. But I knew she had she had so much more to give us. So Shannon is the one that gives that helps us with a clue as to what's gonna happen throughout this show, the purpose of the show. So I told you. This girl got deaf.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, but when they get when they get to that part where they get to the they get the transceiver working and they get a signal and they have the it iteration. Said does like, you know, some space age math in his head. And but the message is in French, and they're like, Who who speaks French? Charlie's like, the French are coming, the French are coming. He's like, No, it's it's a Luke. And Shannon's like, I don't speak French. He's like, but you spent a year. She's like drinking, like, all right, maybe we can hang. But then she's like, no, but I don't speak French. And then they're like, well, do you? And then she's like, basically, like, oh, okay, I do. Well, which is it?
SPEAKER_01Well, I think, okay, so you remember the other scene, and her brother is like just down talking her, and she's like, You don't know what I've been through, what's going in my head. Yeah. To that point, I think she has she has some low self-esteem, and she doesn't think highly of herself enough. And I think the whole you know, shallow girls is that. So I think this is just her not acknowledging what she does have, what she does bring to the table. I think that's more her insecurity. Yeah. And that's so much of her not giving a fuck.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I I can agree with that. I think it it it's a lot, the insecurity. That was my take on it.
SPEAKER_01See, we're geniuses. We are TV geniuses.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. If only that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_00So Shannon translates the message as please help me, please come get me. I'm alone now on the island, alone. Please somebody come. The others are dead. It killed them, it killed them all. Which is eerie. And then Saeed finishes his space age math problem in his head in under a minute, and realizes that the message has been playing for basically 16 and a half years. 16 years and five months to be exact.
SPEAKER_01And you're very exact, okay.
SPEAKER_00I wrote it down. So I didn't try to.
SPEAKER_01Okay, but the saying your memory is off the chain.
SPEAKER_00Like my memory is not. The only thing I need to remember is where I left my notebook, and I'm good.
SPEAKER_01And maybe I should actually start using my notebook more, write more notes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there you go.
SPEAKER_01I'm just spitballing, you know what I mean? I know. Done with the flow.
SPEAKER_00And Charlie, Charlie gets the last line in here too, and he's like, guys, where are we? I don't know, Charlie, where are you? So that's how the episode ends. And that's the question. Where are they? So as somebody who's uh are we recording? Yes.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Is this thing on? Yes. So after watching the two episodes, what's your take?
SPEAKER_01Okay. I think every episode should end with a line for Charlie. Okay. Um Charlie's kind of funny that way. Um, I'm into it. Okay. It grabbed me enough so I feel like, okay, I'm ready for the next episode. Let's go. Like, I'll start watching my DVR to watch this.
SPEAKER_00That's just that's a big stamp of approval.
SPEAKER_01High praise. Um, because you know I'm a professional TV watcher. Um so yeah, yeah. These things mean a lot.
SPEAKER_00Next week is episode three, and it's called Tabula Rasa, and it's a Kate episode.
SPEAKER_01I just I you said it like several times. And each time you say it, I'm like, wow, she says it so well.
SPEAKER_00So both of these episodes are all right. When you watch next week's episode, it's gonna be more the lost form episode. It's gonna be more more to like more to the way the whole rest of the series is gonna be.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00In the sense of that the pilot, both parts had a lot of a lot of now and a little bit of flashback. Yeah, but uh but a like a lot to get to us, you know. We meet a lot of the characters, there's a lot of people, there's a lot going on, they're setting the stage. So it's really hard to give us everything that we need in in one episode, so that's why it's two. But it's also a lot of little bit of everything.
SPEAKER_01Gotcha. I'm ready though. I am interested, I'm prepared, ready to get my popcorn, my wine.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01I'm a Olivia pulpit.
SPEAKER_00You know, I just I'm I'm all for it. Sometimes that's dinner.
SPEAKER_01Oh breakfast and villa champions.
