Hi, and welcome to this first episode of season two of Sassin Sips. You are here with Lisa and Brittany, and we are here to talk about the Netflix original series clickbait. And we are on episode one. So welcome in. I'm Lisa. I'm Brittany. And we thank you for being here with us. And today, as per usual, we have our drinks with us, and we're drinking 19 Crimes. And it's um a red wine that was um um the the wine was aged in the barrel, in the rum barrels, yeah, and it's really, really good. How do you like it? It's really good.
SPEAKER_02I expected it, I expected it to be like okay, it's whatever, but then I started drinking it and I was like, ooh, okay.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I'm not a huge fan of rum, and I really enjoyed it. So that was um that was a good pick. Thank you very much yeah. So episode one of clickbait. So as okay, so real quick, um, as you guys know, previously we were doing the show Lost, and we finished three seasons, and then Agnes had to take a little leave of absence from the show. So, in the meantime, we're going to continue the show, the Assassin's Sips show, uh, with other friends and other shows. And so, like we always say, our motto is drinks, friends, television. And so here we are. We've got our drinks, we've got our friends, and we've got a new show to talk about in the meantime. So, welcome Brittany. And um Brittany and I also recorded a get to know you episode where we talked about how we met and some of our shenanigans. And that episode is actually already up on our Patreon. So if you are a patron or you'd like to be, you can have access to that episode. Access starts as little as like one dollar a month. So please consider supporting the show if you feel so inclined. And with all that being said, are you ready to get into the show?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's like the little roller coaster I'm about to talk about. I'm really excited to talk about this. I'm glad. So, right from the start of the episode, I just feel like we're thrown into it, and I just feel like it goes so smooth, but at the same time, you're like like you're ducking almost. You're like, where the fuck did that come from? And then it just progresses, and so immediately it starts off where you're seeing the sister, her name's Pia. Um, it actually starts off with a family dinner, doesn't it? And so you see Pia, the sister. Pia Sia. Yeah, so P this is the thing. Pia has like blunt cut bangs, like platinum blonde hair, and she's pulling a Sia moment. I don't know how that really contributes, besides the fact of saying, like, she has that blunt cut, her hair is like definitely fried, like she's impulsive. Like Pia is impulsive, and that's what immediately we're trying to get at. It's just so weird how the show is trying to tell you like that. And you could just see, like, as the first clip kind of progresses, like she gets into a fight with her brother, and then she goes out drinking and doing like random shit, and she kind of just doesn't really think of the consequences as she does things, which is why this whole episode is kind of based on her and her brother's disappearance.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. So, like you said, um, when the episode opens, they're celebrating their mother's birthday, Pia and Nick. And the the night kind of comes to a head when they present the gift to the mother that's supposed to be from the adults, and instead of it being a bread maker, it's a planter, and planter, and that's it. Pia is like uh what like what's a good way to put it? Like, she just goes off, you know, like that that sets her off because it seems like there's bad blood between her and Nick's wife, Sophie, and she's accusing him of saying, Well, that's not what we decided, that's what she decided, and you know, and and she just gets really pissed off. And Nick tries to keep the peace. Actually, Sophie is like, Don't do this, and and she doesn't like they were trying to like calm her down, yeah, and like stop, yeah, but she was blowing up.
SPEAKER_02He wasn't having it. Yeah, that's when Nick got up and started yelling at her, and that's when we see her leave her mother's house, um, throwing her shoes in the street, stumbling away, like a petulant child throwing her shoes.
SPEAKER_00But the best that then, like four seconds later, she's gotta walk over and pick them up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was so dumb. Like, she's just like that. Really, that one tiny clip right there really showed me like this is the kind of character she is. Like, there's a car coming, she doesn't give a shit. She's throwing her shoes, she's like a full-fledged adult. It it was just interesting, and then right after that, if I remember right, um, she's in a club and she's out drinking with a couple people, and she's acting very, very strange for someone who's drinking. And I would say there was definitely more than just alcohol in that situation, but that's all that we saw as the viewer, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because as she's as she's on her way there, you see her text messages, and um, I'm not sure if we see who it is, but they're telling her, Come on, let's go out, let's get drunk. And she's like, Oh my god, yeah, I want to get drunk. And so she's she's on a mission, like that's you know, she wants to go out, she wants to drink, she wants to, I guess.
SPEAKER_02Like you know, put the scene from the argument with the brother.
SPEAKER_00And like you said, like you see her there, and she's just uh in her moment. Um, she's dancing, she's drinking, and and possibly not even her own drinks.
SPEAKER_02Like, yeah, yeah. She walked over to like this table for like a second, took this random beer swag day, and then continued to just like hold it right into the bathroom. And that's like an obvious indicator of her impulsiveness again. Like, you could definitely tell that wasn't her drink. Takes you into the bathroom, starts texting on some kind of dating app on the toilet, and she matches with this guy. And she literally was like, Well, not literally, but like just to summarize like her what she was doing. She was like, Hey, I'm taking a shit. And the guy's like, When you done, right? Let's get a drink.
SPEAKER_00Right. It was so funny. No biggie. I mean, that's the kind of thing we do at home, right? Like in our in private, in our own bathrooms, like sit on the toilet with your phone, but she's like in this club, people are pounding on the door, and and she's just like, I'm busy, like you're not home.
SPEAKER_02Literally telling a stranger, like, I'm on the toilet, which that's I I'm not gonna call myself conservative, that's definitely not me. You know what I mean? Like, and I feel like that's a lot of people, like, especially when you're trying to like match with somebody, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Right. There's there's a few people who I have spoken to while on the toilet, and they know because uh you know we're close enough in our relationships, but it's it's not the kind of thing that you just that not everyone would feel comfortable with. And the guy was just like, Okay, cool, like text me when you flush. So I guess I guess he's in the whole like everybody poops camp where he's just not phased by it, so or either that or who knows what his mo um intentions were, but but we'll get to him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but in the meantime, you don't hear anything from him. She ends up home. Well, she drops her phone. No, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Yeah, she drops her phone in the toilet and then she's like shit, and then she ends up home. She takes you could see she obviously has a roommate because we know her name is Pia, and like everything in the refrigerator and the pantry, yeah, is completely labeled with someone else's name. So you know, she does the trick. She takes the rice, she puts her phone in the container, and she like praise the god, but like in a different way. Instead of praying, she just takes some random pills on yoga. It was so strange. She takes a spoon, dips in the yogurt, like drops her pill on it, and she's like yum. And it looks like yeah, like a spoon. It's like the way that she took that pill makes you think that she's about to enter some fucking euphoria. And then it kind of like, but it's okay, and this is like what we were like previously talking about right before report recording. We were just like, but it's not in a prescription bottle, it looks like she bought it on the shelves at like CVS. Like, what the fuck was that? Yeah, like I don't, I don't know. She just had getting high on clariton, like I so weird, as you do.
SPEAKER_00I mean, you know, doesn't everyone as you do, but yeah, and then after she has um after she has Ellie's rice and Ellie's snacks and Ellie's pills and rattles the bottle like a fucking lunatic, and you hear Ellie like, I'm sleeping. Then the next thing you see is like her beating off in her bed.
SPEAKER_02And laughing at some like dumb like animal.
SPEAKER_00And then right, and then two seconds later later, she's laughing at like a kitten playing a piano. Okay. Um, okay, so I don't know. I don't know what she took, but I guess um I guess this is her life. Like, you know, up until that point, I feel like it's all set up to make her look like a train wreck, you know, because she doesn't have our shit together at our family party. So she kind of just blows up and makes a scene. And then the next thing is like she's out at a club, she's drinking, she's dancing, she's just being very irresponsible in a sense, because she's like herself and she's just right. Um, and then she comes home, she's like so disrespectful to her roommate. She just, you know, takes what she wants, she makes noise, she she has truly no um like boundaries.
SPEAKER_02Like she was angry and she broke boundaries and she didn't give a shit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then it's just all about her feelings and emotions. Okay, I'm hungry. Okay, let me have this seductive pill and yogurt. Okay, I'm horny, cool, beat off. Oh, wait, I want to laugh. Here's a kitten on a piano. What like you know, so you're just like, what's next? But then the next day you see her at work and she's she's in the medical field.
SPEAKER_02Um, probably like like working in like a dialysis, yeah, wing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so you and I couldn't really figure this out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was like it definitely didn't okay. So we were using context clues. We're like, it's definitely not chemo because I feel like we should be like more like that's true. I was looking around and I was like, okay, well, like usually like chemo equals bald, like for the most part, right? Or like you can obviously tell someone's like wearing a wig or a headscarf or like something to like cover the fact that like they lost their hair from chemo. Nobody was like that, and like especially like the the boy that she was treating, like the high schooler, like he had all his hair, and I'm gonna like their relationship made it seem like he like she like him and her have some kind of relationship because he's there the first time for a long period of time, right? Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00And the other nurse was having a hard time, and she came over to help, and she's like, Oh, yeah, he's got the wiggly veins, and boom, you know, she got the needle in, and you know, she's like, Oh, so what do you have to show me? And he's showing her whatever videos, and so this is at the point where the video comes into play, the whole at five million views I die, and it's it turns out to be her brother who's looking like he was beat up and being held somewhere, and he posts a sign that says, I abuse women.
SPEAKER_02Um, and then like the sign switches, and then it says at five million views, I love it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and so now she's starting to freak out, and she calls her sister-in-law's job, but they won't put her through, and so then she just takes off. Now, remember, she doesn't even have her phone because her phone is a toilet phone, and it's still in the rice, so she she goes right away. She goes, Well, she tries to call her brother and he doesn't answer.
SPEAKER_02So she goes to his job and um and walks right into like a gym, and it looks like it's definitely like some kind of college facility, like like a like a center for a college.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so they're they're playing volleyball, and we learned that he's a physical therapist, and nobody has seen him. He didn't make his meeting that morning, so now she's you know really in a panic.
SPEAKER_02So she goes to the wife's job, and she's just but before that, sorry to cut you off, like before that she runs up and she like just runs on the volleyball court. Oh, right, talks to the coach, and so the coach is like his best friend, and his name is slipping my mind, so we're just gonna call him coach friend, Matt Coach friend, and and so Matt Coach friend and Pia step out of the gym to talk, from what I remember. And you see in the background there's this girl, she has long brown hair, and she's glancing over at them and looking, and obviously she knows what's up. So I'm not sure if she heard because you could see that she's behind the glass, still on the court, and they stepped outside of that, and they were trying to figure out like who last saw Nick, like if he came into work that morning or something like that. And so this one girl on the volleyball team is really, really curious, and they never talked about her anymore. But it really should be like like I've only seen the first episode, I only saw this episode, and I felt like it was extra important, like it wasn't just like oh look, like they wanted you in the background's okay to notice her for sure.
SPEAKER_00And I'm I'm glad you brought up I for I forgot all about her. Um, yeah, and so that and like they don't really notice her though, but but we do, you know. Um so then Pia Pia Seea goes to Sophie's work and she's a teacher um at like some fancy school and walks right past the guards, and they're like, Can we help you? And she's like, No. And they say I don't give a fuck.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they start calling like the codes for like intruders or some shit, and she runs right up to Sophie's classroom, which kind of surprised me. They didn't seem like they had the best relationship, but she knew exactly where a classroom was, yeah, but whatever. So, like, as if this has happened before, like it almost like thinking about it now, it almost makes me seem like maybe Pia is the one in the family that cries well about a lot of shit. So they're just like, Oh, like Pia is just doing her thing. My my sister like, let's ignore like her antics, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, but like my sister-in-law is a teacher, and she's been in her job for many years, and I would not be able to find her classroom, and I've been there, I would not be able to find it again. So go for Pia.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, I agree, and like Pia was very direct in like her, her like um how am I trying to say? Yeah, like in the in the way in her route to the classroom, she did not make any mistakes. So that like um that direction that she had was just like interesting, but anyway, so she's like making a ruckus outside. Um, Sophie comes out of the classroom, shows her the video, like tells her what's going on, and then you see them like walking to their cars and going to the like police station to like report like a missing person.
SPEAKER_00Right. And so at this point, we see that the video has about 9,000 views, so it's it's still a fair amount of views, but nowhere near five million. And then when they get to the police station, uh it at first the guy's like, Well, he's only been missing for about five hours, so they don't really take him serious. And then we see Detective Amiri, and Detective Amiri is Woody, the guy from the toilet Tinder app. And we're like, whoa, then let's get a drink. Yeah. Also, like, I'm gonna help you. Yeah, so right, so he agrees to help them, and then there's like this cute little awkward moment between them where they look at each other like, oh shit, it's you. Oh shit, what are you? Um so they explain and he, you know, he agrees and whatever, and then um I think at that point, Pia decides that she's gonna go home and see if her phone is working. Or does she stop? No, she stops at at her mom's first to see if her mom had heard.
SPEAKER_02I thought she went home first to get her phone and then went to her mom's. But either way, okay, one or the other happens. I really don't think the order matters, but she does visit her mom and her mom's like, is everything okay? Because she's like asking her mom, like, have you heard from myth? I got her last night, and the mom's like, Why? What's up? And she's like, Oh, nothing. Right, like she's like, Enjoy your place here, bye.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just want to see if he's still mad at me.
SPEAKER_02You know, um, yeah, you're right.
SPEAKER_00She does go to her mom's first because then when she gets back, she's like seeing her like her phone's blowing up, or she had like so many like notifications that right because she she gets her phone out of the rice and it works, and there's a voicemail from Nick. And so then she meets back up with well, she listens to it, and he says, um, it's from the night before, and he apologizes for the argument and explains that there's some stuff going on and that they should talk soon. Um but then Sophie calls her and says to meet her at the police station. Because now there's a new video, right? And so they get to the police station and it's like the homicide scene, and they're like homicide.
SPEAKER_02And they're like actually in like a room now, and like that's when the other detective comes in, he introduces himself as like being like part of a homicide unit, and they're looking at each other like, um, he didn't die yet. What are you doing? And that's when the detective's like, but did he kill anybody? And they're just like, Oh my god, like Sophie immediately is like, My husband wouldn't kill anybody, and like P is getting very angry. And I think at one point, Sophie's even saying, like, they're not going to help us if you're acting like this.
SPEAKER_00Which Yeah, because she was super calm throughout the whole thing, super calm like suspiciously calm, which is weird because like the episode is supposed to focus on like P.C.
SPEAKER_02and not like Sophie.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. And um, and it's at that moment where they say that there's a new video and it shows a new card where he says, I killed a woman. But we learn that the other two cards were in Nick's handwriting, but this one isn't. Excuse me. Yeah, so you know, they're not really sure what to make of it. They want to know if he's ever been violent, and you know, just the I guess the usual questions that they might have to ask in situation, but anyway, um, so that's it. They leave the station, Pia shows or or lets Sophie listen to the voicemail, and then they both agree that they're not gonna tell the cops about it.
SPEAKER_02And um that's as they're leaving the police station, ready to go back to Sophie's house. Because I think at this point, um, Pia ends up talking to Ethan, which is one of Sophie and Nick's sons, the older one, they have two sons, right? And so I'm gonna I'm gonna say the younger one was like middle school and the older one was like maybe early high school, right? So the older one, Ethan, you see him like playing some like first-person shooter on his computer with like a chat opener or whatever, and Pia comes over and it's like, Oh no, I'm sorry. Pia walks into their house past reporters trying to get like some kind of statement from her, and she's like, go the fuck away, or she says something like that. And when she walks in, she sees like the younger son just kind of just like sitting there really upset, and he's like, They've been here for an hour. That's when Pia goes to check up on Ethan, the older son. And as she's having a conversation with him, saying, like, everything will be okay, dad'll come home, blah blah blah. And you see somebody message Ethan on his computer by like screen name or the username, whatever. Like, you see, the handle is like A L underscore 2005.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And this person is asking, like, or like the person saying, like, tell me everything, like what when you know, right?
SPEAKER_00Right. Like, make sure you tell me um as soon as you know. And you can see he looks nervous when the the chat box comes up, even though she can't see it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, like at this point, I think Ethan even says to her, like, everybody in school knows. So, like, if anybody from his class or school messaged him, like, let me know something when you know, like for anybody, like, like, imagine yourself in that situation. If somebody messaged one of your kids, you're like even you, like your like sibling one missing, you'd be like, okay, like fine, like it's nothing to react to in a strange way, more than just like being upset because you're reliving what's going on in your life right now. But the fact that he was reacting in such a nervous way to that message, right, makes me wonder who that person actually is because obviously it seems like he knows them. Yeah, very suspicious.
SPEAKER_00They then they try Pia and Sophie try to log into Nick's computer, and they're trying to guess his password, and it's oh my god, it's Butch Brewer. It's the full name of his dead hamster. So, like hamsters with full names. I mean, okay.
SPEAKER_02But it's like once they get in so darky. Oh no, it it was, and I feel like that kind of was there too to like paint what kind of character Nick is, or like to to show his character, like he's just they were trying to make him really seem like a family man who like um like really values his childhood and his sister and the relationships, and there's like a few flashbacks, like in the beginning and the middle of the episode of like Pia and Nick's relationship, like they were like smoking weed on like a park bench or like some shit, just like bonding, like brother-sister stuff, yeah. Like nothing that would indicate that they had like a strange relationship or a little bit too weird of a brother-sister relationship, if you know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like there was no indication of anything like that, just like love. Right. You can see that they were obviously pretty close and that they had a really good relationship. Um, it didn't look strange, it just looked, you know, normal. Um, siblings fight like they were bonding, yeah. Um, yeah, and when they got into his computer, they see a lot of family photos, um a little bit of porn, and like they looked because they look through his um his like Google history, and it's like physical therapy articles and science stuff, a little bit of porn, and Pia looks at Sophie, and Sophie's like, What? Like it's like next, anyway. So that that was kind of funny though, but they're making him humane, yeah. He's just like everybody else, right? Right. So Pia goes back to her apartment and she sees Ellie on the couch watching the news, and the video has made it to the news, so now she's freaking out even more because obviously um the numbers gain traction. Yeah. So she goes in her room to have a cigarette, I think a smoke. And Vince shows up. And what we forgot to mention before is that she had asked Vince, you know, not only to hack Google, but but she wanted him to help her because he's pretty tech savvy. And so he comes over to tell her that they basically created like their version of a subreddit. Um, so in the sub-form, they have people helping them in real time. And what they were able to do is look at this quote unquote room where Nick is being held, and they realize that it's a delivery van because of one of the signs in the back.
SPEAKER_02Like and like somebody on that form, like some like trucker was like, Hey, I know that from this specific van made in this specific year, and like it's really easy to spot them because nobody has them anymore.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so they know exactly what they're looking for now. Right. That that whole scene was like was so um don't don't like 45 seconds. Don't fuck with cats, um, with that whole shit. Like it was it was yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um made you feel good about like how the internet has progressed, yeah.
SPEAKER_00People can still do good on it. Yeah. So now the video is up to like 4.5 million views. Actually, no, Vince goes to kiss her. I forgot this part.
SPEAKER_02Vince goes to kiss her, and as he goes to kiss her and she pulls away, that's when Matt, which like volleyball coach shows up at her apartment, she's just randomly it seems like they've never, you know, like he's never visited her apartment before. So she kind of looks up and she's like, on top of my brother being missing and hell for ransom or whatever, like, all these random people are in my apartment. He's just like he's trying to assess the situation. You can see that she has no fucking clue what's going on, and they start having a conversation about Nick. And this is when he reveals that like he was interested in like pursuing some kind of relationship with Pia or whatever, like in the past, and how Nick specifically says that he's gonna like beat him up with like a two by four, like repeatedly, like, and so Matt makes it seem like Nick was very graphic and very specific about how he will harm Matt if he like even like goes near Pia in that kind of way, and that's when he like says, and I quote, he's fierce when it comes to you, you know that, which makes you think that like maybe whatever he's like being held for right now has to do with something that Pia did, or something that maybe somebody did to Pia and that he took revenge on for, and now he's in trouble for it. Yeah, like it makes you think like who fucked with Pia for Nick to like be in this situation.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean I mean, I know what happens, so I'm not gonna say if you're right or not, but I think that's a very smart observation. Thank you.
SPEAKER_02So, anyway, um, they're back at the police station now. Um, they're trying to help out, like, well, Pia is trying to help out. P is like Pia brings Vince and they start talking about like it's this specific van, and you have to look here, and like, because they're trying to look back at like the cameras in like the on his like route to work, and you could see him like biking on his way to work, and you see him 8 a.m. that morning, or not 8 a.m., but like prior to 8 a.m. Like between his like commute from like his home to his job, you see him on his bike, everything looks normal. And I think you see a van pass.
SPEAKER_00Well, and they offered to help them watch the videos, and the cops are like, Yeah, that's nice, but no, you just you just sit there and and which is so fucking dumb.
SPEAKER_02So, anyway, they put them in like this little waiting room because they were ready to kick them out, and then like somebody got soft and was like, put them in the waiting room, it's okay. And that's when P is just like watching the numbers go up, yeah, and it hits five million, yeah, and life slows down. You see, Pia's reactions like really, really slow, like you don't know what's gonna happen. You like really feel like you're in her body as she's like experiencing better. That's how I felt at least. Like, I felt disgusting watching that because I would hate to be in that situation because I felt everything that like she felt, yeah, and she turned around in that whole moment. Her reacting, she's turning around to tell Matt it's at five million, and then boom, the detectives come in, they're like, We found the van.
SPEAKER_00Right, it's like it's like cool, he hit five million, but all hope is not lost. We found the van, yeah. In the nick of time, yeah. So they they're in their cars, they're rushing, yeah, in the nick of time, pun intended. Um good wine, plus sips time, okay. Yummy. Um, yeah, so they are in the cars and they're racing to the scene of where the van is supposed to be, and they come across it in like this dark area. It looks like some kind of lot or whatever, like deserted area.
SPEAKER_02You can see like a chain-link fence with like shit stuck on it. Not shit, but like garbage, you know. It it's like decrepit. It's like you can tell it's really late or really early in the morning, like and they're going to this random ass neighborhood, and they find like this warehouse with a van.
SPEAKER_00And it's the van. And it's the van. Yeah, whatever you want to call it. The delivery truck step van.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and so now Sia is still Tia's still sitting, Tia C is still sitting in like the car that like they're bringing her to the location, and and she you're watching with her as like the SWAT team is like surrounding the van, and like very, very like slowly, you just see them all do that, and then they throw open the door and the end of the episode ends.
SPEAKER_00So we don't get to see what is in the van.
SPEAKER_02But I don't think anything's in the van, like, no tarp, no blood, nothing. That's not because they were like really clean about what they did. I just think that like you think it's the wrong thing. They kind of I think it's I think they planted it. I think whoever's doing this planted that van there. They were like, Okay, here's how we're gonna murder Nick Brewer. Two vans, one tarp.
SPEAKER_00Do you think this was some real thought-out process?
SPEAKER_02I think that whoever's doing this, and I don't think it's one person. I think obviously, like, I don't think one person can get away with all this shit. So, like the team of people who are doing this were like, hey, we found the subreddit that everybody's using to like solve this mystery, and maybe there are people on that subreddit who are gonna point them in the wrong direction, but I think that's the way that the kidnappers could be like a few like steps forward.
SPEAKER_00That would be brilliant, wouldn't it?
SPEAKER_02It would be, and I think that's why they purposely planted that band there. I mean, that's not certain because this is all I've seen, and I'm sure episode two, they're gonna pick up from like where you opened up the band. I don't know, but I don't know. I just feel like, or like maybe they'll just be a note on the floor and they're like next time, or maybe it'll be a riddle.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh, imagine. Oh my gosh, it's like there's nothing in here look under the van. Yeah. After only seeing one episode, what are your thoughts um on the show so far? Like, is it is it a keep watch, or is it um I'll keep watching, but only for the sake of of the podcast, or you know, just that's how I felt like in the first like few minutes of the show.
SPEAKER_02Like, maybe like the first five minutes in, I was like, hmm, you know, I'm I know I'm gonna eventually like it, but like this isn't something that like I'm ready to jump to the next episode for. But like I don't want to watch it, like I don't want to binge this. Like, that's what I felt in the beginning. But by the end of like the first episode, I was like, I could see myself wanting to binge this. And even though there was like a major cliffhanger, like I feel like I don't know, like I definitely did want to move on to the next episode. I purposely stopped myself because I had to, but I'm thinking as we're going on, and as we're like, I feel like Nick and Sia, Nick and Pia, Nick and Tia, yes, they're close, but I feel like they're like people or main characters that we'll focus on in the next episodes, like as they're titled, that get like as the episodes go on, the names of the people on the titles of the episodes are gonna get closer and closer and closer to Nick. So right now I think Sia is the furthest away from Nick in the progression of like people named. Like if the next one, I forgot the name of the next episode, but let's say it's like the wife, right? Like obviously his wife is a little bit closer to him than his sister. And so we'll start moving to like people closer and closer in like in his circle. You know what I mean? So I'm thinking that like as we move on in the episodes, as they progress to people closer to Nick, if this is how like Netflix is planning this, then they're gonna get like really, really like more like cliffhangry as we go on, and you're gonna be like more enticed to like keep moving to the next episode because it's gonna get like even more like you know, suspenseful.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I definitely agree with you. Um, the first time that I watched this, it was just because I really um I was kind of stuck in the house that weekend, and I was like, all right, let's see what all the hype is about. And I put it on. The first episode is kind of the way you described it, but I was like, whatever, I'll put on the second one. And I think that after the second one, it definitely hooked me in a little bit more because at first I thought it was kind of gimmicky, you know, like oh, clickbait, you know, obviously you you're gonna click on it. But the show overall was better than I thought it was gonna be. And Netflix shows are usually pretty good.
SPEAKER_02Um, oh no, it's nothing like Netflix originals aren't bad by any. It's just that, you know, and with any kind of TV show, like there are some that are really good, and then there are some that like have a really good idea, but they're not executed properly. Like they they could have been so much better, the actors could have been so much better. And I feel like in the first episode, like the actors really could have been better too, like, especially Pia's character, like, or the the actress that plays Pia, like she's supposed to be the lead role in this episode. Like, we're supposed to only really focus on her besides like this mystery that's occurring. And I just feel like her reactions aren't really genuine to the person that she is, like her impulsiveness is like slightly cringy because like they're trying to make her that impulsive, like the the writers are trying to make her that impulsive. But I'm not like anybody professional, I'm just the viewer, and that's just what I'm saying. We'll see. But I'm sure like as we go on, we'll see more.
SPEAKER_00I think from what I gather, it's I don't I don't want to say it's like we're supposed to look into their lives. Um, we do get a glimpse into her life, but mostly because it's like from her perspective. So then in the next episode, whoever is the next titled character, so to speak, um it'll be kind of shot around that person's uh perspective, like they'll follow that person around. Yeah, if that makes sense. So like you will get a glimpse into a little bit of that person's personal life.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because I mean, like obviously everyone's personal life um like A reflects who they are, and B definitely reflects like this mystery that the show is based on.
SPEAKER_00And the thing is also like in first episodes, there's so much groundwork that you have to lay in order for you to become um what's the word? Like um attached, I guess, to the character. Like I guess like engaged in the show, too. Yeah, and and so like they I guess they didn't they didn't want it. Seems like they didn't want to draw it out, but it does also seem kind of fast. But I guess in another sense, if you're only gonna plan to do eight episodes, you have to make accommodations. So exactly.
SPEAKER_02And so like the way that it moved was only because of the length of the series. So maybe if this was like a two or three season show, like it would have actually just been dragged out a little bit more.
SPEAKER_00Probably, yeah. I mean, overall, I definitely think it's worth watching, even if you just see the first episode. I definitely think it's worth giving it a shot. My opinion is that it gets better. Um, the episodes get better and a little bit more addictive. I found myself like in the later episodes, like, wait, no, next, you know, like not wanting to get off the couch.
SPEAKER_02But um I mean, like, hey, that's like like look at like the first season of The Office, too. Like that was kind of like a bit of a drag. Like, there's another show that I just started watching, or I just finished watching recently, actually. Um, I forgot what show it was, but I just remember thinking like the first few episodes, like this is a bit of a drag. Yeah, sometimes and then like four or five.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. You just you just kind of kind of power through and and just like give it give it a second or third chance because it'll it'll get better. Like, you know, and and honestly, like even us, you know, sometimes it takes a couple of episodes to find the groove and to figure out what works and what doesn't work. So, you know, not to sound corny, but like even you guys who've stuck with us, like we do appreciate it because I know those those first few episodes were rough. And you know, probably even this season, it it might take an episode or two because um, you know, it's just it's a different show, it's a different vibe, it's you know, different hosts.
SPEAKER_02Well, for co-hosts, yeah, but yeah, I mean, like for viewers who like continue for Agnes, like I understand the difference too. But hopefully you stay into the show and the drinks and the fun. Brittany is a good time. I try to be, I try my hardest.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, do you have any um suspects or that you want to talk about or like okay? Let me rephrase. Do you have any suspects? And if you do, do you want to talk about them?
SPEAKER_02Um, I feel like the girl with the brown hair and the ponytail, like the one who is on the volleyball court, she's definitely like a person of interest. And in that first episode, like the directors wanted you to know she's a person of interest, so obviously she's on my radar. Um, Sophie's a little bit too calm through the whole thing. I don't know if that's just like her training as a teacher, or that's just like again, like she just seems like a square. So, like that just may be her personality too. That's what they Lisa, that's what they're trying to paint her out to be. They're trying to make her this like the land lady, and like she's acting like one, especially like her husband's like gonna die, and like apparently now he murdered someone too, and she's just like take your shoes off the house. She knows she was in the house. I know. So it's like, yeah, like she just is a little bit too calm for everything going on. Like, I know, like, I'm not the most exciting person neither, but I would definitely be like in an uproar if like my spouse or family member was in that situation. I wouldn't just be like, be calm at the police station, like Namaste, like no, I'd be like, Okay, thank you.
SPEAKER_00I will need five valiums, please. Exactly because otherwise I might be a raging lunatic, but that's just me. So yeah, give me the yogurt until you got this in the big linen swoon.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Oh my god, but yeah, so I I think Sophie's um, I think Sophie knows more than what she puts out. I think she was kind of afraid to log into the next computer. Maybe she was typing in the wrong shit on purpose, or she acted like she really didn't know the password on purpose. I didn't consider that. Yeah, maybe she was afraid to get into his computer because she knew that something was up with him. She didn't want Pete to see it, and then she would have to P it to see it, and then she would have to um then she would have to acknowledge the fact that like she with she withheld the information. But um, yeah, so Sophie, the the volleyball girl, um and one of like the both detectives, not even one of the detectives, both of them just seemed a little off. Oh, and then that like username, like the AL 2005, which I think is actually somebody that we already know, or somebody we're about to eat meet that's like not one of Ethan's like um peers at all. So that's my observations, that's my guessing. Okay, and that's um that's what's going through my mind right now.
SPEAKER_00Very interesting, very interesting indeed. Good observations though.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. I'm trying, like, I I like the fact that I'm not really like a big mystery person either, but like I like trying to figure this out while I'm watching it. It's fun.
SPEAKER_00It it is fun. I mean, that's that is definitely part of the fun for me. So every episode I'm like, oh, it's so and so, and then I'm like, Well, maybe it's so and so.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, and I hope like our viewers who are watching the episode and then like listening to this or like listen to this, watch the episode, and then come back to us and listen again. I hope like they're listening to what we're saying. And when I'm like, I think it's Sophie, I hope our viewers are like, No, it's not, like, and really like forming their own opinions and trying to figure it out what they're watching too. And this is gonna be the fun of this.
SPEAKER_00Like this, please, no spoilers. Oh, yeah, that's not cool. Yeah, because even though I've seen it, um Brittany hasn't. So uh please, no spoilers, just so that we can um, you know, we can we can have our discussions and she can watch with fresh eyes. And that's that's more fun listening to all her wrong theories anyway.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, but like, and this is this is what's really like pulling me into continuing this show too. It's the fact that I I will be figuring it out one more. It's it's interactive, it's not just watching it and saying, okay, now I do like whatever.
SPEAKER_00I can't wait. I can't wait to see. I know that's not the goal, right? To see if you solve it, but I can't wait to see if you get it or get close. Or on the other side, um, if if and when they reveal like who is behind the whole whatever, you are completely blindsided. Like, I'm really excited.
SPEAKER_02I know, I know, I feel like that too. I'm just like, I don't know. I wonder if I'm gonna be like, well, I knew it the whole time, but I didn't want to say it.
SPEAKER_00You can say that. I won't, I'll pretend like I believe you.
SPEAKER_02No, no, it's I just that's like I was saying like the fun part of all this, too. Like this definitely isn't a show you just throw on for background noise. And that's what I like about it. Like I'm watching it with purpose. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely. And so I hope we get to talk about what's uh in the van. I mean, they they definitely go and explore the van. And I'm sure they're gonna take like even if there's like literally nothing in the van, and I was right, the van was planted and it's clean and whatever. I'm sure they're gonna take like DNA samples or like some not DNA samples, but they're gonna like swab like the um surfaces of the van just to see if they could pick up anything. And so it's gonna be the whole process of like blocking that whole area off caution tape and trying to pick up stuff, and maybe we'll find a hair or like a nail or something, like a fingernail or something. I feel like it's gonna be one of those shows where you find like maybe they like cut off his finger or whatever, and they're like, Oh my god, it's Nick's finger. We know because he has that beauty mark right there, like something weird like that. It's definitely gonna be like that.
SPEAKER_00I I'm so looking forward to so many more of your theories, let me tell you.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. You know, I love this so much. Just to go back to the teacher comment. Um, I'm I'm the teacher, and um one of my students once told me that she has an exciting mind. I asked her to sit down, she couldn't sit down, which is fine. Like if she wants to stand up and do her work, so be it. Just don't roll around on top of your desk while we're like in the middle of the lesson. And so when I was like, child, sit down or like you know, like focus, she was like, I can't, I have an exciting mind. And that's what I feel like right now with all my theories. I have an exciting mind.
SPEAKER_00I think that's a perfect description. So thank you, unnamed child. Yes, yes, thank you, unnamed child. Oh my gosh. Okay, so let's wrap up this episode. Is there it like anything else that we didn't bring up or that I forgot that you think that we should mention? I don't think so.
SPEAKER_02I'm looking back in my notes and um that's it. I mean, like in my notes, I just had written down like who is Dom and Parisha, and those names were shown in like when Pia turns back on her phone from being in the race. Oh, okay. And all her notifications come in. Like, I was pausing the video because I'm like, I want to take note of this because this might be important. And so two names pop up, and one's Dom, and then one's like Parisha. I'm probably pronouncing that wrong, but like I don't know if those are like her friends, if those are the people that she went out with, if those are important to the storyline, but like I made a note of noticing those names. So that's why those people are brought back in. I feel like, hey, they texted her, and it wasn't even like anything that important, those text messages.
SPEAKER_00You actually, there is something we forgot, and you mentioned this to me before, and then we completely forgot to bring it up. You made a comment about how we see Ellie's handwriting all over everything.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you're right.
SPEAKER_02Oh, and we forgot to bring that up. And so I think I said I wanted to go back and see this just as a comparison. So I noticed that the directors were trying to really focus in on the fact that like Ellie is writing things, right? And so that comment in the um like the detective room place at the police station with the people. Um, and when when Pia and Sophie were saying that, like, that's not Nick's handwriting for like that first video for those first two like cards that he was holding up. I wonder if it was Ellie's handwriting only because um they like the directors make a point of pointing out her handwriting on so many different things. Like, it's not like quickly on like the right, it's everything, it's on everything, and I'm pretty sure you see the name on the yogurt too, as she's doing that little like pill thing. So just the oh I'm sorry, no, no, go ahead. Oh no, I was just saying, so the fact that they're focusing so heavily on like something so medical, like a label, like that honestly, and for okay, if somebody's putting labels on their shit, they have a label maker, it's not just a sticker, right? So they would be typing into the label maker because that's the kind of person that I'm getting out of Ellie. Like, she's a very organized person, like it's my way, like yes, pretty much. She's anal. So why isn't she using like a label maker where she's typing it in, it prints it out, she peels out the sticker, puts it on. She's using her handwriting, and I feel like that may connect.
SPEAKER_00Okay, now I I like that observation. I think that that is um that's like really good thinking. But now I'm just gonna play devil's advocate. Seeing as how Pia notices her handwriting all over everything that she lives with, don't you think she might recognize it? Maybe, or you think maybe she's just too self-involved to to notice. Or maybe she didn't recognize it yet.
SPEAKER_02Maybe later on she'll be like, wait a second. Like, I know let's say she likes what if she drops her phone in a puddle again and this phone still manages to survive after like a rice bath.
SPEAKER_00Well, then she gets the new rice and she's like, wait a minute, writing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. She's like, wait a second, uh clue.
SPEAKER_00But um well, we may have this ruin episode two, but um, I'm not gonna tell you.
SPEAKER_02Oh, come on. No, uh, I guess we're all gonna have to wait for that. And so wait are we next week?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I was just gonna say, it's are we doing this weekly or bi-weekly? How long, how long do we have to wait?
SPEAKER_02I think you know, this is only like an eight episode limited series. I think that while the show is still on Netflix, and let's say this show is on Netflix for a year, right? It came out this year in the summer, so technically last year. Okay, so I love this show right now. I really do. Um, as like dry as it seemed in the first episode, or as cringy and like forceful. Um, I really want to follow this. And I know this is gonna be like a one-season show, obviously. It's a limited series. So you know by the time the eighth episode's done, you know everything. There's nothing like that's gonna be a cliffhanger. If anything, like it's nothing that important, it's just like a hmm, and that's it. Like nothing more than that. Yeah. So with that, I feel like this should be a weekly thing, and within like the next two months, it gives everybody a chance to maybe like have the exposure from listening to us and then having a chance to watch it on their own, or even watching it twice while it's still on Netflix. It's the fact that Netflix said it's a limited series that makes me think they're gonna pull it off the air soon, not the air, the internet.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I okay. I thought that that meant that it was um limited as in one season, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I don't, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I don't know how long they're gonna leave it out for somebody get Netflix on the line. Who's got Netflix on speed though? Can you can you just drop us a line and let us know? Um, yeah, no, I I just um am making sure what works for you because I know you know sometimes our schedules get a little hectic.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, no, I'm I'm ready to go through with this. Maybe fourth episode, take a break for two weeks, but or take a break for a week, like skip a week. But I'm ready to go into this. I really want to like now that like I'm just talking about it more and more with you. Um I really want to know like what's going on.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I'm I'm in. I mean, I'm all in because um yeah, I I I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the whole series like enough that I'm like, yeah, we can totally do this show. Because um, not sure if you guys out there are aware, but we actually did put out some polls when we were trying to decide what show to do this time around. And so clickbait was like overwhelmingly chosen. And so, you know, you guys spoke and we listened. So we we hope that we're gonna do it justice by you. Um but yeah, so until the next episode season two until the next episode of episode two season one of clickbait, season two of Sassin Sips, and episode two of clickbait, and of season two of us. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh so do you want to know what the next episode is called?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you can tell me. You know what? I think I'm gonna watch it tonight, honestly. I'm like ready for it right now. Yeah, it's called the Detective. So I wonder if Nick has a relationship with the detective, as in like he knows the detective from somewhere, which is like my um, which is like my theory with like the episode titles, the fact that like the first episode and the character that we're focusing on, which is Peya, is the furthest away from his inner circle. You know, like she's the furthest out. So maybe he has some kind of conflict with the detective or knows him in a way or was a witness to something.
SPEAKER_00There's there's definitely a few things in this episode I think that you are going to watch and be like, oh, oh, wait a minute, you know. So there's there's a few little um nuggets that are dropped, um, like breadcrumbs. And and I think that you're gonna enjoy the second episode even more because it's definitely gonna be something things in there that that you want to follow up on and you want to talk about and you want to explore. And yeah, and so like I said, I think the second episode definitely is is better at pulling you in.
SPEAKER_02Oh, and I'm not gonna want to stop.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. So uh until next time, until next Monday. Yep. As always, thank you so much for listening and hanging out with us. SPEAKER_00Yeah, and so like we mentioned before, we did the little get to know you episode with Britney. And so anything, um I know you mentioned this to me like off the air. So I'm gonna, or did you mention it in the other episode? I can't even remember right now, but um, yeah. But if if there's anything like you want to know or you wanna ask, please feel free to send us your questions, and yeah, we'll we'll talk about whatever it is. So that's about it for this episode.
