SPEAKER_02

Hey everyone, and welcome to this episode of Sass and Sips, the podcast where we drink and we dish and we watch and we rewatch. And as you know, this season we're focusing on clickbait, and we are about to embark on episode seven, The Sun. Dun dun dun. We are the sun. We are your hosts. I'm Lisa.

SPEAKER_00

I'm Brittany.

SPEAKER_02

And welcome in for an episode of Oh, I don't even know. Well, what are you drinking tonight?

SPEAKER_00

I made a cocktail tonight. I am feeling better compared to the last two to three episodes. Oh, so um, yeah. So um instead of drinking like Teraflu tonight, instead I am drinking a a jam, uh gin and jam. It's the first time I ever made one. It's kind of kind of not good, but it's it looks so good for the I'm trying to be really nice about it. Thank you. Yeah, so I use some blueberry jam. Make sure you take a jam for the gram. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I button and jam for the gram.

SPEAKER_00

A gin and jam for the gram. My boyfriend makes these a lot. Um, and he has like a proper um like muddler and like strainer and like a whole little cocktail set. And like I don't, so I was trying to make one. I I muddled some like fresh basil in with the blueberry jam because blueberry basil is or blueberry and basil together, I like a lot. And then I used like the botanist gin. I used some seltzer instead of clip soda because this is what I had. I used the coffee instead of simple syrup because this is what I had. I used lemon juice and I just chucked that shit up and I put it in a glass and garnished it. Yeah, thank you. Yeah, it's good, it's exactly what I wanted right now. So um treat yourself, yeah. What are you drinking, Lisa?

SPEAKER_02

I have Pinot Noir because my local liquor store was out of Shiraz. I think I drank them all.

SPEAKER_00

This was the dilemma last episode, and I'm kind of I'm kind of really happy that it was the dilemma this episode too. Not happy for you, I just think it's really funny. That's what I meant to say.

SPEAKER_02

I've been my words back in that liquor store about three times since then, and they don't have well, no, they don't have the big bottle, and I just what's the point of getting the small bottle?

SPEAKER_00

Like you're paying too much. That's one glass, like yeah, that's what I mean. Like when you could buy the bigger bottle and save the extra money, why buy the smaller bottles? I think it's time to go to a new liquor store, Lisa. You know what? I just had a thought.

SPEAKER_02

We had a party here, and it wasn't our party. We just uh we we basically just were I wonder if they left any wine behind. The cooler is still outside. I have to check.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god, that's so funny.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that would be so nice. I think I know what I'm doing after we finish recording.

SPEAKER_00

That would be episode eight with two big straws.

SPEAKER_02

It's so funny because I went to my mom's house and we had dinner and the kids had I don't know, soda, water, whatever, whatever the fuck was in their cups. And they asked my aunt for a straw and she gave them one, and the straws were so tall. And the kids are like, Why are these straws so tall? And I'm like, oh my god, those would be perfect for a wine bottle. And then they looked at me like I was crazy. Like, come on, like you never put a straw in a wine bottle before. I can't be the first person to do that.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, not at all. I went to this one place in the city. Um, oh, it starts with a B. It's such a weird name. And I went there for it, it was like that Barrio. No, it was called like Barrio 2 or something like that. Like some some weird thing like that. No, no, no, no. Oh my god, no, not like Barrio's a pizzeria. I have to look it up. It was some okay, uh no, hold on. It was like a daytime club in Manhattan. I went there for a friend's like 23rd birthday or something, like some weird birthday. Oh, two, like two, like Roman numeral two, like I. Uh Bastardo. Oh S T A R D O. Yeah. Yeah. So I went there. Um, and they it's like a daytime place to go to, but it's all blacked out and it's like a club. I don't know if you've been there.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know if I've been there.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I've heard so Violeta and I went there for our friend Anastasia's birthday a couple of years ago, and it was really, really cool. Um, but the whole like shtick to the place is that they give you like bottomless mimosas, but they give you like a whole like wine bottle of mimosa or bellini you could choose, and they give you giant, giant straw to put in it.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so when we finish, meet me outside.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Come off tomorrow. Let's go.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. I mean, that place was the food was really good too. I mean, like it was so weird. Like you're in a a club eating an omelet and drinking like a bottle of bellini with a giant straw. Like it was it was a weird with it. I'm in. Yeah, it was very, very strange. It the worst part was like when we left, it was only like 1 p.m.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, and you must be so ready for a nap. It was just a weird feeling. Great. You have a nap and you still have your whole day in front of you. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it was it was interesting. I would so if the opportunity comes up, I would not say no.

SPEAKER_02

And then this place you know what place I love and I haven't been to in so long because you know, kids, I mean, you know, responsibilities. Blockheads. Have you ever been to blockheads?

SPEAKER_00

Where is that?

SPEAKER_02

In the city. There's a there's a few of them.

SPEAKER_00

Block, like wooden block and then heads. Yeah, I feel like I should know this. You're saying yeah, like I should know this.

SPEAKER_02

Oh well, you said block like wooden block, and I said yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Blockheads, oh, it's a burrito place.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, cool. You can't see me, people, but I'm rubbing my tummy because I'm just thinking about their food and their drinks, and you gotta go you got a bulldog. Wait, what? Oh my god. Okay, so when I looked because I think there was like two or three locations.

SPEAKER_00

It says after 29 years, Blockheads will be closing its doors on Saturday, February 26, 2022. We're honored to have served Manhattan all these years, and we thank you for your local support. We want to thank all of the current and past employees. We certainly couldn't have made it without you, and we hope you have as many fond memories of blockheads as we do. It seems like it's all of them. I got chills. I'm really sad now. It looks like it was a fun time.

SPEAKER_02

Can we have a moment of silence for blockheads? I'm gonna miss their bulldogs. What was a bulldog? A margarita with a corona in it. Oh, wait, let's Google it.

SPEAKER_00

Nope, it was right here.

SPEAKER_02

Yep, there you go. It looks really good. It tasted really good too.

SPEAKER_00

Wait, but it says locations. And where was the one that you were thinking of?

SPEAKER_02

Um, I've been to two of them, one on the east side and one on the west side, but I don't remember I don't remember offhand. The one on the west side is by one of the museums, like the museum of maybe natural history.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, because on locations, you're saying there were multiple locations in Manhattan, right? So on locations, it's only showing one, and it says Midtown East, and then it's like 954 2nd Avenue between East 50th and 51st Street.

SPEAKER_02

And then it says order is the one with direct. So if I click order direct, it brings you is the is the one where Alex and the infamous screenshot picture and the and whip it out. Oh, I've never told you this story. This is this is a Patreon story, so I'm not gonna tell it here. No, when you say whip it out, it sounds really familiar, but hold on. So it happened at Blockheads and then outside of Blockheads, but I have tofu.

SPEAKER_00

Lisa, I think this one's still open. I just sent it to you. Yes, it says so. When I click that thing and it says like order direct, it says hi, you were ordering from Blockheads Burrito, Second Avenue.

SPEAKER_02

So maybe that's saying we added two dollars.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe it's just weird that they addressed it to like the whole like island and then they have one open, but they have a whole like vegan bowl menu. That's really cute.

SPEAKER_02

We're just gonna have to go in the city and just hit up everything. Uh I'm with it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, well, we know what we're doing next week, so yeah. We got big plans. We are we are on episode seven, so we are so close to being finished, and I think that once we do episode eight, we should celebrate by going into the city and having a feast.

SPEAKER_00

That's that or even just East LA. Every single time I walk past there, I'm just like, I want to go so bad. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, and we gotta make sure it's a little bit more.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it really looks like it gets better and better too. Every single time I pass it, I'm like, oh I remember Lisa and I sat outside right there, and I remember sitting inside over there.

SPEAKER_02

I just need a picture of margaritas in my life right now. Which one was the was it the mango or the pineapple? The one of them was so good, and I don't remember which one it was.

SPEAKER_00

I feel when we went with tea, we got passion fruit, which was interesting. Yeah, I don't think we got like no, no, I think we got like watermelon or like mango or something like that.

SPEAKER_02

Like something like I love very summery, but I don't think I don't think it worked out well with the margarita.

SPEAKER_00

It we probably got like mango or pineapple. Oh, we got by the glass at first, and then we got a pitcher, right?

SPEAKER_02

And we learned a lesson.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think we I think you got pineapple, I got mango, and then I got pineapple, you got mango, and then we got a pitcher. Yeah, if I'm remembering that right. Yeah, I just remember I just remember like standing waiting for you, like when we were about to leave, and you were going to the bathroom, and I had my like leftover like fajitas. Um, because that was the only thing that I could get, because I was vegan then. So I just got like vegetable fajitas, and I had like my leftover container and I was standing there and it was like I was leaning because I was like that type drunk, and the juice from the fajitas went all over my white shirt.

SPEAKER_01

I don't remember that.

SPEAKER_00

I remember because then the thing was was that we drove all the way back to my house, which would like a nice like almost hour drive, and then we went in my pool and it was like 3 a.m. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I remember that.

SPEAKER_00

Great. That that was really a good night.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we needed that, it was perfect, and it was so perfect because you have you have like the most amazing pool, and it was dark and it was quiet, and there were no children.

SPEAKER_01

It was before the cicadas.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and I think it was before the was it before the no.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it was before the pandemic. Wait, no, hold on. I remember I was I was vaping then though.

SPEAKER_02

I think it might have been right that first summer.

SPEAKER_00

So summer 2020? Were we wearing masks?

SPEAKER_02

No, then maybe it wasn't. No, I I think you're right. I think it has to be before because we sat inside with tea.

SPEAKER_00

No, when we sat inside with tea, that was January 2020.

SPEAKER_02

Right, okay. So, yes, because I had my rental car because I had the Honda, the accord.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you had like that white car with like the Baltimore plates. Hold on, no, I that's how I remember. And so when you gave me the turkey flavored Pringles, I was eating them in the backseat as a vegan.

SPEAKER_02

That was that was pre-pandemic. The night where you and I went, just us, that was pandemic.

SPEAKER_00

That was like August or July 2020, like a pimp.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, because I I remember we we were waiting for a table, we were standing outside in like the while, and there was that little smoke shop on the corner, and yeah, and that's where you found the mint jewel pods because that's when they just banned them.

SPEAKER_00

Because that's when I because I stopped smoking um on New Year's Eve of 2020 into 2021. So I knew it was before that, so it had to be pandemic.

SPEAKER_01

Um, but I didn't think I was like jeweling, yeah. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I don't have like a picture to commemorate because of the pandemic. We could you're right. So we didn't get pictures, we just got by the glass.

SPEAKER_02

We just got by the glass, and then we went to your house and we went swimming, and we weren't even there that long. We were just like hanging out a little bit, we swam for a little bit and we were just like BSing. And then I think I went home.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I mean, obviously I went home, but yeah, I just I think the only thought that I remember passing through my mind was like, How is Lisa driving? Because I remember just being like fucked up, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I drank, but we didn't like over drink because they didn't give us a picture. But as soon we got to your house and then we were swimming, so it was like you know, we exercised it off.

SPEAKER_00

I think we did, but now we have somewhere to crash right around the corner. Thank you, Jeff. But yeah, he's four.

SPEAKER_02

He's gonna be like, Don't let don't tell me where he lives, because me and Alex might go there and he'd be like, who the fuck is not gonna do at 6 o'clock in the morning? He'd be me and Alex. Can we come in? We don't want to drive home.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, who told him where I live?

SPEAKER_00

There's like a dog-friendly bar right over there, too. And it's not like an indoor-outdoor bar, it's like a you're inside. And so we went there a couple weeks ago with some of his friends, and there were just dogs walking all around the inside of this bar.

SPEAKER_02

Could you imagine me bringing Stella there?

SPEAKER_00

Fucking nightmare. No, but like these dogs weren't like like these weren't service dogs. These were like, I'm gonna run after people coming in type dogs. It was it was interesting, but it's insane. Um yeah, it was and it wasn't a big place either. Like it was it was a like a cozy bar. I don't want to call it like small or cramped, but it was cozy, you know.

SPEAKER_02

I wish I could be in her places like that, but she's psycho.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's like at me too. I have um uh husky Pomeranian away from people, yeah, and that's the thing. So I can't bring her anywhere because she's afraid of people, she loves animals, but she hates people.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Stella runs at people, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

She's so cute though, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

She's lucky she's cute.

SPEAKER_01

She's got that big muscle head. Oh yeah, I want to kiss it.

SPEAKER_02

Nice good bruises.

SPEAKER_00

Smacking people with their head. You know what I found though? I was deleting a ton of shit on my phone today. Today I decided like at some point today, I was like, I need to clear up storage on my phone so I can back it up and like do like responsible shit with my phone. So I was going through all my photos, just like deleting like the accidental screenshots I take of my alarm and like doubles and stuff like that. Yeah, right. So I have so many videos of like the inside of my pocket, and I was like, fucking delete, delete. And I found the picture. I think I don't know if we were talking about it on Patreon or on here. I found the picture of Charmander looking down onto my bed from upstairs.

SPEAKER_02

That was the get to know you episode.

SPEAKER_00

That was so that was on Patreon, yeah. Yeah, so we'll leave it at that. So that's why everybody's like, the fuck, Charmander?

SPEAKER_02

Like, what the Charmander's watching you, mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

What a strange place, weird, yeah. Somebody took the time to position him up there, and the worst part is is like it had to be the last people that stayed in that Airbnb, and then it's just like the cleaning people ignored it, or maybe the home or the homeowners cleaned the house and they ignored it, or or the cleaning people put it there.

SPEAKER_02

The ownership, I know the owners of the house. Well, maybe they told them the owners of the house were from Brooklyn. Well, I don't think they were from Brooklyn, but they lived in Brooklyn, so I'm guessing they probably didn't like go up there a whole lot, you know. No, no, no, I don't like I don't mean that in any like negative way.

SPEAKER_00

I'm just saying no, no, so let's just spy on the people through a stuffed animal.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe you know, so like they probably trusted uh a management company or cleaning crew to take care of the property in between guests. Yeah, could you imagine how difficult it must be to travel if you're you know you're probably working and who knows what kind of responsibilities you have, but to make a three, four hour drive every week?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it wasn't like the polka dos, it was like a hike to get up there.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so I'm sure like the cleaning crew either did it or ignored it. They maybe the cleaning crew thought the people, the owners did it, and they're like, Yeah, I ain't fucking with that. Like, I'm not gonna lose my job.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe they just didn't even look up, maybe they just didn't even look up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's even worse.

SPEAKER_00

It's just so weird. Oh god.

SPEAKER_02

How did like how could you not notice?

SPEAKER_00

I got scared when I first noticed. I was just I was looking around, it was it was in a spot where it was like like when you're walking in the room, you wouldn't see it because of like the way the house was angled, so like the way the roof was, it was like in a spot that wouldn't catch your eye when you're walking into the room, unless you're walking into the room with your head up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but once you go in the room, like and especially if you're going to clean the room or spend more than 30 seconds in the room, I feel like you would have to notice it. Yeah, you do not. I mean I don't know. I mean, the world may never know. Found your things to make you go, hmm. Remember that song?

SPEAKER_00

Things to make you, I don't remember that song at all. That's Nisika's on to me. I watched that HBO intro, like while I was at work last week, and I was just like, this is so weird. But I'm like, you know what? It means something to Lisa.

SPEAKER_02

So as soon as the music came on, I was like, oh, this is my jam.

SPEAKER_00

But it was so long, it wasn't just like like the it's like it was like late, it was like a minute.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, they were like, You're you're paying for this. I don't know, I know.

SPEAKER_00

But we they really wanted to let you know that you're paying for this, and here's your lengthy intro.

SPEAKER_02

And we have been conditioned by HBO, so like you hear that music, and and then you understood what I was saying about like the spinning kind of like I don't know how to explain that, exactly, and I was like, Yeah, this is this is my childhood. Oh HBO, they knew what they were doing. I'm gonna drink all my wine, and we haven't even started talking yet. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I was plugging in. Yeah, we haven't even started talking about the episode yet. The episode is called The Sun. The Sun. The Sun. And it focuses on it actually focuses on both, but like mostly Ethan.

SPEAKER_02

I don't even want to do mad libs this week because I just want to talk about the episode.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, this was a really good episode. I was telling Lisa earlier. Earlier, this was like if you had to call one episode the feel good episode, it would be this one. But like none of these episodes should be called feel good at all. But this one, like, there was like a scene with Ethan at the end. It was like Ethan's last scene in the episode. Not that anything happens to him. It was just like the last time we see Ethan in this episode, and it was so feel-good. I was like, oh Ethan, but let me get my notes.

SPEAKER_02

Do you want to take the lead, or do you want me to read the synopsis that I have?

SPEAKER_00

No, I'll take the lead. So I'll give a quick overview of what happens and then we'll go into detail.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so this episode starts off with the boys and Sophie returning to school. Um, this is her first day back at work. This is Ethan and Kai's first day back at their school. And there's the common bully, whatever the fuck his name is. It doesn't really matter. Um, and he picks a fight with Ethan. Okay, so Michael starts picking a fight with Ethan, and Kai gets involved and gets physical. And that's kind of like the tone of the whole episode. It's that Ethan is trying to like be a problem solver, and Kai is just being a child and just thinking like, if I just solve this physically, it'll go away. While that's happening, um Ethan is also very much talking to AI or A L. I think in the previous episode, I thought it was AI, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's it's I'm pretty sure, like I'm 99% that it's L.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, after watching the episode, I know that's Al. Al underscore 2005. So he's talking to like the person online a lot in this episode. And towards the middle of this episode, we actually end up meeting who that person is.

SPEAKER_02

Well, he gets, but before that, he gets like really freaked out by Pia.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So Which is kind of the reason that leads him to meeting the person.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so after like Kai gets in trouble for being physical, um, Ethan is like at home doing research, watching videos of like the women that apparently interacted with his dad, and he's like noticing some kind of discrepancy with Mandy Harrison, who was the artist out in LA.

SPEAKER_02

Right, because on videos they don't let her finish, but she's like, I never even and then they cut her off.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. And so the second time I watched it, I was like, I picked that up. Yeah, so Ethan gets in contact with Mandy or Amanda Harrison, and it turns out that like she never even knew Nick, she never met him in person. And he tells Pia, they go to the police station, so that's kind of like they're thinking, like they they were talking together and they're like, oh my god, wait, if Mandy Harrison never met dad or Nick, right? Right, maybe Emma was lying, and like maybe she never met dad either, and then the person who's catfishing was the one who told Sarah go kill herself. Maybe that wasn't dad in the first place, maybe that wasn't Nick. And so that is the big tone of this whole episode. And so just fast-forwarding through, not getting into specifics until we actually get into specifics. Um Pia takes this whole thing by the reins along with uh Ethan because Sophie's kind of just like let it be. It's fine. Yeah, like Sophie's even looking to just like skip town, like with kids after like the school year's over, too. Yeah, and so like it must be like the end of April, beginning of May by now, because I think this whole ordeal happened like in the beginning of April.

SPEAKER_02

But also, remember, because of the fight, the father wanted to press charges, and even though we convinced them to go to mediation, the principal or the headmaster, whoever she is, told Sophie something to the effect of, you know, even though we love you, I don't think this is a good fit for you.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so they're kind of just being pushed out of town. So Sophie had the idea of like maybe moving to Phoenix where her mom lives. Right. So that while that's going on, we meet AI, A L, Al, underscore Tobacca Pai, who's actually but because before that, when they're in the car, no, no, no, just I just want to set it up.

SPEAKER_02

When they're in the car, Ethan is texting, and Pia is asking him about who he's texting. He's like, Oh, it's just a friend. And you know, Pia's kind of alarmed because you know, she's like, every after everything that happened with your father, this is somebody you know, right? And he's like, Yeah, yeah, of course. And she's like, But you've met them, right?

SPEAKER_00

And so Ethan says, Of course I did, you know, or something something to that effect, even though he just lies to his friend because he knows he's like doing something that he really shouldn't be doing, right? But then along with like just what happened in his family, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But then after that, I I think that that also triggers his spidey sense because he tells the person he wants to meet, and they're being a little bit what's the word? Um like apprehensive. Well, I was gonna say, like, yeah, you know, like, oh, I can't come out, I I can't go outside, but you know, so they they have a lot of excuses, and so then he starts to get really like paranoid, paranoid, yeah, perfect. And and I guess they pee's words are in his head, and so he he accuses them of being some pedo in the basement, and and then the person is finally finally tells him so fine and sends them their address.

SPEAKER_00

So Ethan goes over, meets the person, her name's Allison, she's like around his age. Allison has it was so weird. I want to get into the specifics of this too. I just want to like briefly go over the colour. Sorry. Yeah, no, because I can go on and on about their encounter. Yeah. So it turns out her name's Allison, and she also lost a parent, so they relate in that way. And so she's really like helping Ethan because like he's really low and he doesn't know what to do. And it she has a bright idea of contacting Emma Beasley, even though the police tried to contact her, and even though Pia tried to contact her, yeah, Allison's really, really smart. So she gives this excuse that like because I have social anxiety and I'm in the house all the time, like I'm really good with tech wear and shit, like like another Vincent, pretty much, who like also comes back to the city. Make us such a cute couple. Yeah, so um, she uh she gets Ethan to talk to Emma. Emma admits that she was lying about she videotapes the whole thing, mm-hmm. And it turns out that Pia at the same time meets up with Tara from the volleyball team, the girl who just like quit, and Tara admits that she was having a relationship with one of her coaches, and I don't want to say who. And Pia ends up breaking.

SPEAKER_03

I think we both know.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. She ends up saying that she's was in a relationship with Matt. Matt did her dirty. Pia broke into Matt's computer, found everything that he did dirty with Tara.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, he Yeah. He screwed over.

SPEAKER_00

Also, while Pia is looking for this stuff, like she has the intent to figure out like what was Matt doing on the night that my brother was murdered, and it's she's finding shit that's a good thing.

SPEAKER_02

Well, she couldn't get into the computer. Oh no, someone let her I forgot her name. Is it Dawn?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

The the Dusk Lady to let her know.

SPEAKER_00

Like one of the yeah, one of the dusk ladies. And so Pia pretty much puts together that Matt has something to do with Nick's disappearance and murder. Um, and so instead of confronting him and going to his apartment like we would expect her to do, she's she goes home, which is like okay, like she goes home. She's telling Amiri on the phone, Detective Mary, like what she did the whole time. He's like, You shouldn't have done that, but anyway, she gets her apartment and next mare.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I don't see how much tempering with evidence.

SPEAKER_00

I didn't hear that. I heard you can't go breaking into somebody's computer.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but then didn't he say that's like tempering with evidence? I don't know, maybe I lied.

SPEAKER_00

Either way, Matt is just like Matt looks guilty, and so the last like scene that we see is Ethan showing Sophie the recording of what Alison did earlier, Ethan and Emma's conversation. And Sophie's just like super super mind blown. Kai is listening because he was supposed to be in his room. Kai goes into Ethan's room, sees that Allison texted him like the location of like, I guess, like where the server is to the computer that was like tapping everybody. And Kai is on his way to the location with the baseball bat. That's the end of the episode. So going back to the beginning. So basically, this whole episode is really putting like the last pieces of the puzzle that we were given together. We find out that Emma was lying.

SPEAKER_02

We find Emma was lying the whole time. She never met him. But what the fuck, Emma Beasley?

SPEAKER_00

We'll go into that because you see it all on her face. Um, we also see Sophie having a breakthrough. Sophie definitely goes through like uh, I'm thinking this way to oh my god, I could think this way. Pia is doing a lot of the footwork, Amiri is putting the case behind him, and we see much more of Kai in this episode. I feel like we kind of like get the gist of Ethan from the beginning, but I never thought of Kai in this way. So let's go back to the first scene. So this episode starts out, like I said, Sophie, Ethan, Kai are going back to school, and Michael, the the school bully, walks up to Ethan. He's like, Let me ask you a question. Um, is Mr. Harrison, right? Chris Harrison, is Mr. Harrison the only one that you don't fuck, or does she or does Harrison, yeah? Or does she fuck all the stuff in the school? And so Ethan, because Sophie already prepared him, she was like, No matter what anybody says, like, do not get physical, do not give into it. Like they're trying to rile you up. Exactly. Um, Ethan blows it off, but Kai is listening, hears all this, and gets physical with Michael.

SPEAKER_02

Kyle comes out of nowhere and just punches him right in the face.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's like the way that Kramer pops in um Jerry's iPhone's apartment. It's like Kai popped into this scene, and he was just like, Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But this little motherfucker, Michael, Michael is a little bitch, let me tell you. Michael wanted to start shit, and then when he needed to get his jaw wired shut or whatever the fuck, oh boo-hoo, I want to press charges. Your son's a bully. No, shut the fuck up. Your son's an asshole. Shut up, you deserved it.

SPEAKER_00

Kai, oh, that was my phone. Um, Kai, my I have a silicone case and it like dragged across my desk, but we'll call it furn anyway. Um okay, okay.

SPEAKER_02

Brittany farted in there.

SPEAKER_00

My phone did, but I don't care. Um he farts.

SPEAKER_01

It's cool.

SPEAKER_00

My god. Kai gets suspended, obviously. Yeah, but like we don't know in that scene that he like really fucks up Michael's face. We know that they both got punched in the face, but we don't know the extent of it, but we know that Kai's suspended. And so when we find out Kai's suspended, he's like making jokes and shit. And so, like, I wrote down my notes that like Kai's like funny, but he's also like really fucking insensitive. But he's also like 13, right? Like, all these have no clue. He probably doesn't realize how insensitive he's being. He thinks that he's just trying to lighten the mood, but like as an adult watching, I'm just like, that's really fucked up kid. I wouldn't be saying that if I were you. Yeah, yeah. And while Kai's at home on a suspension, like and Sophie's like, I'm leaving the room, I can't deal with this. Ethan's texting AL 2005, right? And they're just they were just talking like they have been this whole time. We haven't seen it in a while, but they're still just like saying the same things, like, what's going on? And I think he was actually texting that um my aunt said that Simon didn't kill my dad.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so when you see all the text messages back, I mean they look so suspicious.

SPEAKER_00

Because you know, there's something to carry it, but they do.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, they're just all how do you know? Are you sure? Then who? You know, tell me everything you know. So you could see how that would lead you to be like, uh uh, don't talk to this person, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but like while Ethan's like texting the person in the scene, he like goes up to his room, he's on his computer. I don't know like how he gets to the Mandy Harrison like interview, or not interview, but like um like paparazzi video. Maybe AL 2005 sent it over and he opened it up.

SPEAKER_02

He's a YouTuber.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe, but you you hear her saying the video, I never even or like something like that, and it doesn't really make sense. And so Ethan's just like um okay, he goes to Mandy Harrison portfolio, like website portfolio, because she's like an artist, and he clicks the contact button, and so she eventually gets in contact with him, but after he goes downstairs, I think he did, it wasn't really shown, but after like Ethan is kind of suspicious of that little paparazzi interview clip that we see, he goes back downstairs, and I think like Sophie's like leaving to go somewhere, and you see Kai on the family iPad or his dad's iPad, and he's just deleting photos of his dad, and Ethan's like, what are you doing? He's like housekeeping, which was so fucked up, so insensitive, yeah. And so I wrote down that like I feel like Kai is very much siding with how Sophie feels, and Ethan is siding with Pia, and so there's a division right there, and you see Ethan going to Pia for so much in this episode, and it's it's really nice to see that relationship too, because we kind of saw it at the beginning.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, that's what I was gonna say. Um, we saw it a few episodes ago when he went there, you know, after he stormed out of his own house, he went to her.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. In um The Mistress, yeah. It was the mistress or it was the wife, it was one of those. It was the wife, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, we kind of saw it in both, but yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's why I was getting confused because I know that Sophie went to the skate park to look for him in both. In the mistress, we only saw Emma's point of view. So anyway, after that incident happens and Kai and I think Kai and Sophie leave the house to go find out like what's going on with his suspension.

SPEAKER_02

I think no, not yet. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you know what? It may have been because nothing really no, hold on. I don't think so. Because I wrote down that like um Michael's father looks very familiar, and I don't see that in my notes. So, or not yet in my notes anyway, but um right when they leave, Ethan gets an email back from Mandy Harrison, and we see the notification, but we don't see what's in the email, but he's shook by it. And so he goes and calls Pia. She's not picking up the phone, he meets her at her job, and that's when we see the email. And she was like, I never met your dad, but blah blah blah. Yeah, like I I never I never like met him in person. Like, I'm sorry for your loss, like very respectful, but like very direct, and that was the answer that we needed. So Pia and Ethan are just like, Oh my god, like they agree that they need to confirm with Emma if she actually ever met Nick, because like if she didn't, then the the catfisher is the one who told Sarah. This is a big news, yeah. This is a breakthrough in clearing Nick's name, and that's what Pia and Ethan are here for. Right. And so Sophie is at work again, and this is when her boss is like, maybe this isn't a right fit for you anymore after what happened with your family, and what happened today with with Kai, and what happened with Curtis Harris, uh Curtis Harrison, um Hamilton, whatever. See after all this, like maybe the school's in maybe this place isn't best for you, and she just looks so like defeated, and she looks up, and Sophie's just like it was a rough first day. Yeah, like things will get better, and so Sophie already knows that like she's in the shitter, not necessarily because of like what Kai did, but just because of everything. I'm like, she even you can feel it. I'm sure she felt it. Like she's not you can tell there, like she's not even mad at Kai for what she did, she's just mad that they all have to go through this as like a consequence of what happened in their family.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think she feels guilty that she's gonna be. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And so in this next scene, now Ethan met Pia at work when they figure this out. She Pia was like, I'm already late to work, but then somehow they're both in the police station. We know that because after Pia's boss, I mean, after Sophie's boss is telling her, like, I think you should leave, and Sophie's like, give me one more chance. Um, after that, we see Ethan texting AL 2005, and he's like, I'm in the police station with my aunt. So they went to go tell Amiri what was going on, and Amiri's like, Oh, I don't have time for this, like we have another case, like and on to the next. Yeah, pretty much on to the next. And like his boss, his bald-headed boss, I forgot his name.

SPEAKER_02

Um nobody remembers his name.

SPEAKER_00

No, I just like I'm just using characteristics about him to identify him. He's bald, whatever. He's like, Oh, I think we found the body, and he's like, I gotta go. And P is like, You're putting this on the back burner already? Like, this case is still open. Why are you trying to close it? Simon Burton didn't do it.

SPEAKER_02

Right. P is adamant, and Amiri just doesn't want to hear it.

SPEAKER_00

Amiri pretty much got the answers he wanted, and Amiri still to do right, exactly, and so I kind of get where Amiri's coming from, and then I also get where Pia is coming from, and it just sucks that like that's just the way it is, you know? But thankfully, Pia is so adamant and so persistent, and so Pia and Ethan then just try to figure everything out. Pia and Ethan try to find something to reopen the case, and Pia tells Ethan to watch out for online people after what happened to Nick. This is when they're driving home in the car. Yeah, and this is what Lisa was talking about earlier, because like Ethan was texting AL 2005, and Pia obviously noticed that he was like all giddy, like on his phone. She was asking questions, and she's like, Oh, like where'd you guys meet? And he's like, online. She's like, You guys met in person, right? Because, like, look what just happened to your dad. Like, why are you trying to make another mistake like this? And he's like, No, no, no, we met in person. But this starts Ethan off on his like train to Paranoiaville, which you know what no, but I mean like garden trowel. Right, yelling at people's dads. Oh, we're not there yet. But but you know what? Rightfully so, because this is what I was saying, episode one. Who the fuck was Ethan messaging? He had no clue, and this kid is just like telling the stranger about everything. What the fuck, even though we they oh so earlier in the episode, they exchanged photos, just like PG photos of each other, just to see what they look like. And so the girl that he's messaging, her name's actually Allison. We're just gonna call her Allison from now on, so the AL2005. Allison sends a photo of herself, and so it looks honestly. When I first saw that first, I'm like, when I first saw that at first, whatever, English. Um when I first saw the yeah, right, when I first saw the photo, cheers. Um I wanted the cheers sound, I didn't have anything to clink against. All right, all right.

SPEAKER_02

The glass of my phone. Don't break your phone. Uh-uh. All right, cheers. Clink.

SPEAKER_01

Clink.

SPEAKER_00

Cheers. Um, when I first saw the photo of her, I was like, that's a catfish photo. What'd you think?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, same. Now that shit is so fake.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it looks like it. Like it just, I don't know, like the way like she was like laying on her bed with peace sign. I'm like, that looks sus.

SPEAKER_02

That doesn't look like like send me like generic and perfect. Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I don't know. Like his photo, you could tell he just like literally took it in that moment. I'm surprised she didn't hold up like a newspaper behind her to like prove that it was like taken just then.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, because you know, you're a garden, um, a garden, a basement pedophile. So hold up a picture of yourself with a newspaper stating today's date. That's what I would have said. But then again, I wouldn't have been talking to Randall's online, being like, hey, I'd like to meet.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. And like we find out later on how they started talking, and it's just very I don't know. We'll talk about that then. Yeah. Um Ethan's home now. Ethan's going through all his past messages with Allison and This is what Lisa was talking about. It's all those like really intrusive questions.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sorry. The way you said it, and I've been drinking, and you're like, oh, Ethan's home now. And I was like, wait, what? Like, who's home? I didn't hear my rang door bell go off. Oh. Sorry.

SPEAKER_01

Fucking idiot.

SPEAKER_00

Who's here?

SPEAKER_02

Stella didn't bark. No. All right. I'm so sorry.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. No, no, it's okay. So Pia drops Ethan off. He's at home. He's laying in his bed with his dumb fucking like rap music on, like showing like he's tough. Um he's so soft, but he's so tough because he listens to rap music. Like it's so fucking dumb. These are the parts of the show that are just cringy. Like they could have chosen anything else to put on. They put on like something that makes him seem like he's not him. I don't know. I feel like they could have chosen something else, but anyway, Ethan's going through all his past messages for Allison and all the questions. It's pretty much like a 20 questions type conversation. She's just like, and who, and where, and what? And it's very intrusive. And so after going through all these messages, he's just he texts her back and he's like, How do I know you're not a pedo in the basement?

SPEAKER_02

Don't worry, I got my guard in trowel.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, right. So after pretty much like coming down on Allison, he was like, How do I know you're not you? Or how do I know you are you? Right? She sends him her location.

SPEAKER_02

And so Well, he was he was pretty aggressive for lack of a better word. He was because at first he didn't even respond to her. She texted him and he didn't respond. And then she kept texting, and then finally that's when he he kind of got like I irate almost, you know. And then that's when sh I guess she was just like kind of like fine, whatever. Not that she wrote that, but that was if I had to guess what her thinking was, it was like here, like you you win.

SPEAKER_00

I think it happened from Ethan being like, but can we meet up like right now? And she was like, No, I can't, I'm sick, right, or something. Which I mean, it was she was telling the truth the whole time. Yeah, but yeah, anyway, it just it did sound weird. Like if you're talking to someone, they're saying, I want to meet up with you, blah blah blah, and then all of a sudden when it's like she hits the fan, it's like okay, let's do this now, and they back out, it sounds like a catfish. And after just going through what he just went through, of course he's gonna be paranoid about that. But something happened right before he goes through all the text. From when he gets back to his house with Pia to him going up to his room reading those text messages, there's like two very short scenes, and they're not really super important, honestly, but they are to the whole undertone to this episode. So when Pia and Ethan get back to the house, um Sophie's standing outside and she's like, What the fuck? And so Pia tells Sophie, like, we had to go to the police station, we found that information, and Sophie's like, nothing you're doing is going to bring him back. And then Pia tells Sophie, like, I think you need Nick to be the bad guy, so you don't have to pay. So words are exchanged. And so after Pia leaves, Sophie talks to Ethan, and she's she tells him something really, really important, which is super fucking sad, but this is our society, and Sophie's just and it doesn't make it right, but it's just a tone that like I'm happy they like brought up in this episode because this is real life, and it just makes this whole story much more real, not like they're living in a fantasy world in the show. But Sophie tells Ethan, look, sometimes P forgets, like she she unfortunately well, she doesn't say this, but like it's disgusting in our society how like a white individual has privilege over others of color, and so that's what Sophie was trying to say. And she's just like, I think she actually said to him, like, you're a black teenager in the police station, like, do you did you really think that was a good idea? Like, something could have happened to you, and it's sad, but it's true.

SPEAKER_02

And just this goes back to I don't think that it actually made the episode, but you and I talked about this at the very beginning of the series, in regards to Sophie being so calm and collected, and what it must take to have that kind of composure when your husband is not only missing, but then you have these videos posted online that they're saying that he's he's abused a woman, he's killed a woman, and then he's gonna die.

SPEAKER_00

And how fucked up it is that because of the color of your skin, you you have to be extra calm, otherwise, like extra cautious of your behavior because you don't want to be labeled as like an angry black woman, yeah. Because yeah, because yeah, and so that's what Sophie was saying. It was episode one, it was the first time they went to the police station after that video was discovered, after she found it at work and she went to Sophie's house and they went to the police station. And Pia was like causing like a scene. Okay, I don't want to say she was causing a scene, but she was being like loud and upset, and rightfully so, because the police weren't taking her seriously. She's like, Oh my god, my brother's like held hostage right now, like do something. And Sophie's like, you need to be calm, and Pia's like, how can you be calm? She's like, just like you're not gonna listen to you unless you are. And so, unfortunately, very much unfortunately, Sophie had to come from a place where like my husband is about to be killed, and I need to be calm because if I'm allowed, I'm going to be labeled in the stereotypical way.

SPEAKER_02

And God forbid she could just be in her own pain without having to literally worry about what everybody else fucking thinks. It's so disgusting.

SPEAKER_00

It's so gross, but I'm so happy they brought this into the show because for viewers, and I want to say, like, for a lot of people who are not of color and do not have to go through these struggles, like it's it's really eye-opening for people to see that oh my god, like somebody's husband is about to be killed, and they have to worry about how they're being viewed because of this color of their skin. It's disgusting, and it's just a real fucking theme that I'm happy. And I mean in a genuine way.

SPEAKER_02

All cards on the table, you and I are both white. I mean, uh when I'm walking down the street, you see a white lady, exactly. People don't know, like with you, like I always say I'm undercover, but um that's funny, but you know, my children, my husband, my father, most of my family members. I may not experience it firsthand, but I fucking see it every day. And and and not only that, but I hear it because people don't think twice to say some stupid shit in front of me. No, because I'm one of them. But and it's so it's so disturbing, you know, and then I'll be honest, most people you can't even correct because it just doesn't work. People have to want to change.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's not worth the time and energy of you expressing how wrong it is if somebody's not listening.

SPEAKER_02

And I've tried, like I've tried with certain people, certain members of my family, and it just it literally goes in one ear and out the other, and it's I don't even know. Like, I don't even know the words, but it's just I don't want to say it's pointless.

SPEAKER_00

Because yeah, no, you feel like it's a cop out to say it's like an old way of like thinking, like that's like a big cop out, and it's like we're in 2022, there's no old way of thinking anymore. Fix yourself, but a lot of people just won't.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so I like for me, I feel like the best that I can do is just you know be very honest with my kids and and talk to them, you know, and just just you know, keep those conversations open. But even though my children are children of color, they're female, they also don't have the same stereotypes that males do. And so, yes, yes, I understand like what Sophie is saying for herself and for her son. And there are gonna be certain challenges that even my children have, but first of all, they're female, so they kind of have like that going for them. Not that I'm saying it's right, but you know, just let's let's call a spade a spade, but it sucks, you know? Like it it sucks, and I I tell them all the time, you know, like you just you just always have to it's like you have to double guess yourself for just existing, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And I can't why I I can't come from a place, and this is what I talk to anybody about if I'm talking about like societal struggles with people of color, because I'm not of color, but I am a woman, so I can almost I can I can relate on the level of there is still discriminate uh discrimination like against like different sexes, but but you're also open-minded and willing to listen and empathetic. I mean, like I can I can try to put myself in somebody else's shoes by relating to them in experiences that I have had based on like my religion or my ethnicity, but I can't talk about that from a place of like because of the color of my skin, and I'm open about the fact that like I will never be able to relate to you in that way, but I can kind of understand it because I went through an experience because I'm a woman, or because I have because I'm Jewish or because I'm I don't know, like Italian, or like you know what I mean, in that way. So like just like I was telling you just a couple of weeks ago, I had somebody tell me, Well, you don't look Jewish, and you even said the right thing. What makes somebody look Jewish?

SPEAKER_02

Which is a whole what does a Jew look like? That's my that's that's what I love when somebody's like, Well, you don't look Puerto Rican. Oh, okay, well, what does a Puerto Rican look like?

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. I mean, like saying what does a Jew look like is so rooted anti-Semitic thought, but no, but I I'm not I'm not like taking away from what you're saying at all.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, because like you like at that point you just have to throw it right back to them.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, it wasn't the time or the place, so I no, I know, I know.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, it was a funeral, so yeah, I might still have done it, but that's just me. That bitch. Let's go flatter, let's go over house.

SPEAKER_00

I told my boyfriend's mom about that, and um, we were having like a big heart to heart on Passover on like the Friday, and she was just like shocked because I don't think she I don't think she knew that. I don't think Jeff told her that. And she just she she said to me, She was like, just don't give it energy. And I'm like, I'm not. I just think it's really funny that like a stranger, that was the first time I met that woman. And I kind of said to her, I was like, I'm sorry, I'm talking about people in your family like this, and please call me out, or please tell me if I'm like saying anything too wrong where you're taking offense to it. But how did this woman walk around and not get punched in the face? Because if she's saying it to a stranger like me, what is she saying to other people in like her daily life? Like, is she just going up to people being like you're fat?

SPEAKER_02

You know, she's I'm sorry, and and you know, I love Jeff, but you know, she's that lady in Walmart, like speak English, you're in America. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, I agree. And this is why, like, like his mom was just like she has diarrhea math. And I'm like, Yeah, but if you say something to the wrong person, they're gonna fucking punch you. Like, how does she like obviously not now?

SPEAKER_02

She's a very old lady, but it's like in her she'll still get punched these days these days, nobody got filters and everybody's punching. Yeah, I don't know. Nobody cares about shit anymore, but yeah, but you no, no, no, and just to go back to your point, I understand exactly what you're saying, but you are also somebody who is not in denial about your like, and I don't mean this in a bad way, but your limitations.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I'm not naive to what is myself, what is myself, what is yourself, yeah. What what I have compared to other people and what other people have compared to me, right? Like I I'm I'm witnessing, I'm not like what what is that? I'm gonna use the wrong term. What's that called? Why not whitewashing? What is that called? Colorblind? I'm not colorblind, I'm not blind to the things that go on around me. I I understand privilege that I have compared to other people is disgusting that society's set up that way. I can only use it to my advantage in positive ways. Yeah, but I mean like just coming to that conclusion is big because a lot of people won't be like, uh, I'm gonna use my privilege in positive ways.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you know, right, right. And the fact that, and like that's what I'm saying, like the fact that you can acknowledge and learn and use it in a positive way, is huge, you know, it's it's not something that everybody does.

SPEAKER_00

No, but that should be every white person's 21st cents century responsibility, like in this society, in in this time of our lives now with everything going on. It's just necessarily I'm not saying like get up and protest, I'm not saying like go like write letters to your congresswoman or whatever your congressman.

SPEAKER_02

It's just like but at the very least, understand why people are protesting.

SPEAKER_00

At the very least, understand, or if you see something like micro, micro scale. If you see something just like in your daily life, that's just unfair. Like, say something because you know you can. That's it, like it's and like something small, not like go fight somebody, don't be a guy. I'm just saying, like I'm just saying, like if you could do something, but be be an upstander, not a bystander. That's it.

SPEAKER_02

I know, and I know so many people who will watch television, and I you know, I love television, obviously, but but I speak to a lot of people and and and I hear a lot, you know, sometimes like oh I just want to watch TV for the entertainment value.

SPEAKER_00

I don't want to have to deal with politics or this or that, or like enough already, but what's annoying to you is reality to others, and just the very idea that you can say that you don't want to be bothered to have to watch is very insensitive because I get it, it doesn't apply to you, you know, whatever, but it applies to a whole lot of other people, and it's real, it's it's the fact that it's like TV for so long for majority of people that you're talking about their entire fucking existence, has related to specifically and only them, right? And their small tiny group that is called the majority. But why shouldn't other people be represented just like the way that you were and the way that you were able to relate? Why shouldn't others have that too? And so to see that shouldn't be, oh, this is an inconvenience to me. It should just be like, look, everybody's being represented. On the other hand, and this is where it may get a little fuzzy. Um, I was talking to my boyfriend's mom about and just like that, which is the sex in the city spinoff, it's like the the after. And we were just talking about how like it's great how they were involving. I didn't watch it. So okay, no, that's fine. So um, I mean, like, it's not really a spoiler. It's not a I'm not worried about that. Oh, like um, Miranda comes out as like being a lesbian or just like being like um like in the LGBT community, she's not she's not straight. Um, she ends up having a relationship, actually an affair, but a relationship with a trans woman or a trans person because they identify themselves, their pronouns are they or them. And so I'm gonna call them just a trans person. I feel like that's better. And so besides the normal splash of LGBT that they've always thrown in with like gay characters, um, they really throw it in this time and they really make it like fabricate it into like like intertwine it into like the point of the show, but they do it in such a fucking cringy way. Like in the first episode, like Miranda's talking about how she's like woke now, and it's just like just don't be cringy about it. That's it. And we were we were like um me and my boyfriend were just talking about like how cringy it was, but then also how nice it was to see other people represented on this show that so many people watch, and how like HBO, like thank god like HBO is really getting their shit together.

SPEAKER_02

Not that like I feel like I can pinpoint them doing anything wrong specifically, but I just mean like it's really nice seeing like this and like euphoria and like seeing just for it, not not because it has to be the storyline or because it has to somehow play into the plot, but just because yeah, I feel like just because there's a black character, not because it has to be a black storyline, or and so that actually was like a big thing in the show, too.

SPEAKER_00

Just like bringing in people of color and like specifically like African-American black characters, and so like I think there was one scene and it was Charlotte and her husband, and she's like, Oh my god, we're the only white people here, and it was just like it was weird, it wasn't like I'm taking it out of context by talking about it like that, but just some of the things that they didn't know. Just so cringy, and I feel like they could have gone about it in a more natural way. I don't know, I just feel like clickbait does this conversation and touches on these important points in such a natural way, right?

SPEAKER_02

Race is only an issue when it's an issue, because otherwise it's never a thing.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, you have Sophie and her family, and then you have you know, Nick and his family, so they're a biracial couple, their kids are biracial, and like Nick is and Pia are like white, white, so like they're not even I was gonna say they could really make it if like Netflix wanted to be cringy, they could make it a big part of the storyline how like Nick's mother doesn't agree with Nick's lifestyle choice or something like that. You know what I mean? You know, and they could make it cringy like that, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You got a little bit of that when she was going after Sophie, but you don't but you don't know if she's going after Sophie because of the affair or because of any kind of racial issue, but you get the feeling it's in that episode where like Ruby attacks her, right? Yeah, but you get the feeling it's more so yeah, yeah, yeah. It's more so just because of the affair, because she's she obviously dealt on the kids, so it's it's just like a non-issue, and then the lead detective is I don't know what his nationality is, but he's he's obviously you know not white, so no, I mean like they show him like he's Muslim, like they show him praying, right?

SPEAKER_00

No, no, but I'm just saying, like, I don't know if he's oh like Pakistani, yeah, yeah, I get what you mean. Yeah, I'm not sure specifically what he is either.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so which is fine.

SPEAKER_00

It's right, right, right, right.

SPEAKER_02

It doesn't matter that and that's and that's exactly the point that they don't make an issue of it, it's not it's not important as as it shouldn't be, so to speak, you know what I mean? Like we don't have to make it a thing every time, and I don't and I hope that that doesn't come off the wrong way because I don't mean it in a bad way, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

No, no, because if they if they made it so like, hey, like we threw in a bunch of people of color, let's introduce them that way, and he was like, I'm like, let's say Amiri is Pakistani, right? He could have been like, I mean the first Pakistani person in this police to put it. Like they could make it really cringy that way, they can make him say things that really point out his nationality, his ethnicity, and how he's different, right? But they don't make him different at all, and they show you his collaborate on that.

SPEAKER_02

You know, his family, he he goes to mosque, and look at he's divorced like everybody else. He got a fucked up relationship just like everybody else.

SPEAKER_00

He's on Tinder and he likes women on the toilet, so I just feel like the show in this way, and this is how like this is a really good show. They fucking I lost my train of thought.

SPEAKER_02

Um cleared down the rabbit hole.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, right. I was gonna say they're making these issues not be an issue.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you know, yeah, it's it's just very matter of fact.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, which is just good. They they they did good. That's it. Yeah, no, I'm not saying they were looking for a certain quota when they were hiring like actress and actors, but I just feel like what They did and how they introduced the characters and didn't elaborate on like their heritage or anything like that. Well, because really nice.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and because let's be honest, you could swap out any of the characters with anybody else, any ethnicity, any race, and it would work the same way. I mean, very few things might change, as in that statement from Sophie to Ethan, where she says, you know, Ampia doesn't get it. But really, aside from that, what changes? Nothing. Exactly. Which is exactly as it should be. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They like you said earlier, and I feel like you said it perfectly, they didn't make this the point of the show. There was the storyline and the point of the show of like Nick disappearing and then being murdered and us finding out who it is as the episode goes on. We're not here to learn about cultures and stuff like that. Even though like it's nice and we all should. They were like, this isn't the place for it, and these are just characters and there's just people, and this is just life. Yeah. And this is just what everybody experiences, like people of all different types, period. Like not putting an emphasis on how we're different, but just everybody just like belonging. Right. But also just pointing out like real shit. Like Sophie just being like, Hey, you're you're a black reality.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_00

You know, and so that's what and just going into like the next scene too, and just like also bringing along this. So like Ethan, Ethan gets Allison's location, Ethan goes to her house, and Ethan is picks up what is that thing called? Jeff just told me the name of it the other day.

SPEAKER_02

A trowel.

SPEAKER_00

A trowel, yeah. He was like, Yeah, we were at the gardening center like over the weekend. He was like, Do you have trowels at your house? And I was like, What the fuck is a trowel? You mean like a little shovel? Yeah, it's like a little shovel.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, because he but he walks in the gate and realizes maybe I should have a weapon. Yeah, he's obviously not Puerto Rican because he would have had a knife already. I'm Puerto Rican, I can say that. So he he sees a towel just laying.

SPEAKER_00

Everything we spoke about goes out the way.

SPEAKER_02

I know, I know. There you go. And he's so fucked it up. All right, well, you know what?

SPEAKER_00

Oh no, that's just feel free to write it if I'm wrong. It was just funny and late and airy.

unknown

That's it.

SPEAKER_00

But just going into this, like seeing like anybody standing outside like somebody's house holding something.

SPEAKER_02

But it has but scary has an air of anticipation because you're so nervous. Who's gonna open that door? And and humor, because he's just standing there like, oh, maybe I need a weapon, like you know, okay, well, this will do, you know, and just kind of has it behind his back. And then when the guy opens the door, he starts yelling at him, see, I knew it, but I forgot what he said. You're a fucking liar, and then she comes to the door. Oh no, he's like, he's like, um, Allison is my daughter, and then he's kind of like, Oh, sorry, like, here's your trowel.

SPEAKER_00

And Allison just like sneaks up and she's like, Hi, I'm Allison. It was so weird, and then he just like walks in the house. No, but like just rewinding really, really fast. As soon as he gets to the location, he's in like fucking Uber. Like his mom said, Don't leave the house, and he's like, I'm gonna go meet this stranger. This fucking kid, but anyway, and it's so nice.

SPEAKER_02

What about this father who just you know is like, hey, I have a teenage girl with social anxiety, but and this random kid shows up to the house, and I'm just gonna let him in.

SPEAKER_00

Holding a weapon, holding a weapon outside of our door. He gave him the weapon back, but but he like crouched down, he like slowly put it on the floor and he was like, Okay, I'm gonna come in now. Can I sell her?

SPEAKER_02

How do you just and then they go into her room and shut the door? Oh hell fucking no. I'll take the door right off the goddamn hidden. Like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Uh-uh, no teenage boys in your room.

SPEAKER_00

So before we get to that next part, because and this is like the annoying part when I was taking my notes. I was trying to go back and forth because they keep bringing the scene of Ethan and Allison, but they keep putting other shit in between. So, like, right after Ethan enters the house, we see like previously Pia was on the phone and she tried calling up Amiri, but Amiri was in the car with another detective, and she was like, You got what you needed for me, and now you don't need anything anymore. Fine. She hangs up and she calls somebody. She's like, Hey, I need your help. And I had a feeling it was Vincent, and it was Vincent. So Vincent's back, right? And he's helping Pia, and he's like, Oh, like, um, I was looking into some rumors about like Nick's disappearance, and it turns out like he was like there are allegations to him like screwing somebody on the volleyball team, but he can't say it because he's too much of a prude, so Pia's like, fucking, and he's like, Yeah, that. So um, that was really funny. I like chuckled. And so anyway, like I wrote down my notes, Vincent can't say fucking. So anyway, like Vincent's like, and we knew this because like in the episode the reporter with Ben Park, he goes and he tries to question Tara. He was actually talking to that other girl on the volleyball team who said, like, I think Tara was in a relationship with somebody or like something happened with her and one of the coaches, right? So we already like have like kind of like knowledge of this, yeah. Um and so Vincent.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's well it's revealed. Oh, I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_00

Oh no, I was just gonna say Vincent gives Pia the idea, like maybe you should go talk to Tara in person.

SPEAKER_02

But it was revealed when oh, I was just gonna say that it was revealed that it was Nick, it was Matt, not Nick.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, we're not there yet. Yeah, that's that's what I was Oh, oh, okay, sorry. Back to Yeah, I've been drinking. Um no, no, that's okay. We go back to the scene and then we go to like Sophie talking to Kai, and then we go back to the scene again with Alice and Ethan. So I'm just gonna talk about the Sophie and Kai, and then we're gonna focus solely on Allison and Ethan. So after a little bit, Allison and Ethan that we'll get into, um, we see Sophie apologizing to Kai for him going through all of this, and this is the mediation where Kai and Sophie sit down with Michael and his father. And that's kind of just it. They like sit down. That's it. But it like I I thought it was kind of important how like Sophie was just apologizing to Kai for like just the whole thing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

In this moment where like she's dealing with Kai's shit because he went and beat up someone.

SPEAKER_02

His mom's apologies. So awful.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, just for like the boys having to go through like all the repercussions of what's happening in their family that shouldn't be happening anyway. Like, on top of like your dad being murdered and us not knowing like who or what or why, now everybody's teasing you in school about it. Like, you don't need this, and I'm sorry. And so it was nice to see Sophie apologize, Nikai. But focusing solely on Allison and Ethan's interactions, they're like doing gentle flirting, some really cringe shit. And um, we found out that Allison's mom got really sick a couple years ago and um passed away, and it doesn't seem like it was like easy on her at all because she gets flushed in the face and she gets stereoid when she's talking about it, and she's like, that's why I reached out to you after I saw the news story about what happened with your dad, because I know exactly what you're going through when you're losing a parent, and it's in like a disgusting way, pretty much. And so we find out that Allison started talking to Ethan right when we see those messages in episode one, like that had to be when they first had contact. So we're seeing their whole contact, the entire thing from episode one. That must have been like one of the first messages that we saw in episode one. So a timeline of their interactions was just like given to us there, which was nice. Um, and so they're talking about what to do, and Allison suggests calling Emma Beasley, and that's when Ethan's like, yeah, Pia tried calling her earlier, like my aunt tried calling her early and she didn't pick up. And Alison's like, yeah, but why wouldn't she pick up for you if what she said was true and like your dad wanted to get divorced and marry her, like that would have been your stepmom, you would have been her stepson. So like why wouldn't you? Yeah, no, Alison.

SPEAKER_02

And she tells him to FaceTime instead of phone, because that'll like entice her more.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and so like they go onto like their social media platform that looks like Facebook that like they're using the entire like series. Click whatever the fuck it is. And um Ethan tries calling her. We'll call it ClickBook. Um, Ethan tries calling her on Clickbook through like their video app and she like doesn't pick up. And so Allison like goes over to the computer on like Ethan's username and she messages him, like, hey, like it's Ethan, like Nick's son, like please pick up. And she calls back like immediately. Like Emma calls back. And so Allison and Ethan are like, oh shit. So Ethan gets set up, so that's why you can see Allison. She goes off to the side and she records on her phone their entire interaction, Emma and Ethan's interaction. And so Emma picks up the phone, or Ethan picks up the phone to Emma, and um I I made a note, Emma and her fucking earrings again. Why does she have to just like be all extra with these earrings? I don't get it. But anyway, like you see her like shaking her head. Like they're just there, they're just there. That's it. Is her whole thing supposed to just be like eccentric accessories? Like, whatever. Yeah, so I don't know, they were pissing me off. They were kind of cute, but they were pissing me off. So Emma's like, I think I know what this conversation's gonna be, and Ethan's like, alright, and she's like, Yeah, detective the detective already called me today, and so Ethan's like, Okay, well, like have you ever met my dad? And she's like, Yeah, and he's like, Okay, and so she says, of course, like very straightforward, matter of fact, she's like, of course, and so then Ethan tells Emma that someone was impersonating his dad. I mean, that's what Simon said to Pia, right? And so now Ethan was saying that, and so Emma is just kind of fucked up, right? Like she's just like looking around, she's just like interesting. And so Emma says that they never video chatted, but they talked all the time. She looks really, really uncomfortable, and then she tries to hang up. And so Ethan, and I really like the way that Ethan did this, he apologizes really, really respectfully for like taking up time in her day, and he like he thanks her for like everything that she already shared, and he said, But one final thing, and so after Kai was doing housekeeping on his dad's iPad, deleting all the photos of his dad, Ethan takes that away from Kai when he leaves, and he's looking at a video of like his dad like making breakfast with the boys, and dad's talking about like how he made a three-egg omelette or something, and so like Ethan saves that video clip on his phone, understandably, like just a video of your dad, and your dad's not here anymore, so it's why you can watch it back. Fine, whatever, it's in his camera roll. And he plays the audio recording for Emma while they're like on FaceTime.

SPEAKER_02

He like so smart.

SPEAKER_00

He really was, and he's like, When you talk to my dad, was this his voice? And Emma was just like taken back, and she's like, Can you play that again? Yeah, and she's like, I don't I don't think I ever talked to your dad. I I really thought that was Danny, but that's not his voice. And she's like, I have to go. And so she hangs up, and Allison and Ethan are like literally mind blown. They do like the like non-verbal gesture of mind blown, and um they're like with their hands over their head. Yeah, so and I mean like I felt like that too, because like as soon as Emma was like, No, I I I never talked to your dad then. I never met your dad. It's just like what the fuck was your whole episode?

SPEAKER_02

Right, right. That was some fucking acid trip, I guess.

SPEAKER_00

I really hope I really really looking into like the last episode, episode eight. I really hope we see something. Like, was she hallucinating? Like, we are they gonna actually show like Emma's real life, just like texting him, like maybe Emma was like dreaming. Like, I don't know, I don't know with that girl. Anyway, um, Ethan then gets a text from his mom, like, on my way home, and he's like, Oh shit, gotta go. And Allison's like, wait, I'll check the metadata. Now, I was just like, what the fuck is the metadata?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, really. I was like, I don't know school kids.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I was like, you know what? It's not like a real term or a fake term, metadata.

SPEAKER_02

No, it's real.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, because I I was just like, I know like computers, I know computers enough where like I can help other people with them, I could problem solve on my own, I know how to Google shit, but like I was like, what the fuck is metadata? So she's like, because I have social anxiety and I'm in the house all the time. I know my metadata. I'm like, okay, whatever.

SPEAKER_03

So all right.

SPEAKER_00

So now Ethan goes home. But while Ethan's on his way home, we see Pia confronting Tara. Tara. Tara.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Tara.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So they meet up in the park. Uh park, ow. I'm like smacking my hand into the wall. And Tara's telling Pia that she was in like a weird relationship with someone. And um it like went downhill fast. And that person, that person was then trying to get in contact with her a lot, and she didn't want to be in contact with them, so she blocked them. And as soon as she blocked them, they posted like like explicit photos of her online. And so I've just been writing down like revenge porn pretty much, because that's like pretty much what's exactly what it was. Yeah, and so when Nick found out about all this, like as her coach, and was convincing her to like because she was like, I'm quitting the volleyball team, I don't want to be bothered with any of this. And Nick was convincing her to come back, pleading with her to come back, and so Pia is like, Who and so no no no, I'm sorry, and Tara was like, you know, after telling like her story to Pia, she's like, you know, when I saw that video of Nick at like holding up the sign, my first thought was like they got the wrong guy, which is fucking wild because that's what they said last episode. Right. Who said like they got the wrong guy? Maybe Nick said that. No, Simon got that. Side that was Simon's last line. It was Simon telling Pia I got the wrong guy.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, and so Pia's like, who then? And so Tara admits that she was in a relationship with Matt Alden, which is the other coach, which is supposed to be like Nick's best friend. That was the one that wanted to date Pia so bad, and Nick said that he would beat him up with like a two by four. Yep. Okay, so that guy. So it turns out Matt was the one who posted the revenge born of Tara, who was sleeping with Tara, who when Tara quit the team, he got angry. And Nick knew about their whole relationship. He had to, because Tara told him. So he is also mind blown. She didn't do the hands, but we know she's mind blown. She just she looks away and she was like, her jaw was just dropped, and she was shaking her head, and she was like, oh, so yeah. Yeah, it's just it's a big mind-blowing episode for sure. Back at the house, back at the uh the the brewer estate, Sophie tells Ethan that the kid's dad isn't like Michael's dad isn't gonna press charges, but like he needs surgery, whatever. And um, after this, we see Pia going to Matt's job. Yeah, and so well, Nick's job too. Like they they go to the the college and she walks right past the security guards, like the ladies again, yeah. And she's like, I I'm going into Matt's office, and so they're like, You can't be here, and she's like, help me get into the computer. This can help, like, you were you liked my brother, right? And they were like, We loved your brother, and she's like, This can help clear his name, get me into his computer. And the one with the gray hair, Nancy? I don't know, her name wasn't Linda. There were two ladies. There was one with gray hair, which is the one that helped Pia, and the one with like reddish hair, her name was Linda. So I noticed this, and we'll get back to fucking ratty ass Linda, but the woman with the gray hair like logs into Matt's computer for Pia, and Pia is going through because Pia is like, I need to know where Matt was the night that Nick was murdered. So Pia goes into Matt's calendar, and it turns out he had a big blank spot that Wednesday night. That night that Nick was murdered. There was nothing on his schedule at all. And Pia starts going through like the files on his computer, finds all the pictures of Tara, and the woman with the gray hair is like, oh my god, those aren't supposed to be there. Like, what the fuck is that? Like, she's just like in awe too, like in shock. Not in awe, but like in shock.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_00

And after Pia clicks around a little bit more, she finds a folder and it had like a weird name. I forgot what it was, but she clicked on it and she saw all the photoshopped images that were on the different profiles. Yeah. And so you know how like Nick was saying in the last episode when like he was kidnapped by Simon, he's like, that photo is photoshopped. You could tell by like the line, like the horizon in the background. You see the original photo in this one like folder on Matt's computer. You see the original photo of Nick and Sophie, and then you see the photoshopped one of like him and Emma, and him and Sarah. And so it's just fucking weird. And Sophie's like, I'm sorry, Pia is putting all this together, and she's just like, Holy shit, right? Anyway, um, Linda didn't want the gray-haired woman to go into the computer, and she was like, I'm gonna do it anyway.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, she's like, I'll take care of it, don't worry.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so anyway, Pia's actually like taking pictures on her phone of what she's seeing too, to like have the evidence on her, which I thought was a really smart idea. And at the same time, Ethan's getting extra evidence at home. Ethan gets an email from Emma saying like she's so sorry she lied, and like she has like these files about Danny slash Nick on her computer, and she's just sending him everything that she has. And he's getting these same photos. So, and like a a a bunch of other ones, so ones that like we have previously seen that Emma has had, so like pictures of the kids, pictures of them like on fake vacation, which like I'm sorry, if I was talking to somebody online and they took a picture of themselves and photoshopped me in and said, like, this would like going on vacation with you would be like that would be so weird, right?

SPEAKER_02

They had it out of the office where Michael is seeing the real estate agent, and he photoshops his face onto her ex-husband's face in the Christmas photo with the yeah, and with the kids, and she's like, No, like they went on like three dates, and he's like, I could be your husband. Yeah, he's like, I wasn't with you, but I was in your heart. He's like, No.

SPEAKER_00

But like, isn't that the biggest red flag? And maybe that's what Mandy Harris saw. Yeah, Mandy Harrison. Yeah, maybe that's what she saw. Maybe, yeah, maybe maybe Nick was or Matt was doing that type shit to her too. She was like, This fucking weird bye, and Emma was just eating into it. Whatever.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe maybe we'll save it for our final recap. Yeah, and we'll just we'll talk about like the characters because there's so much there. I mean, for a short series, there's a lot of character information, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And I feel like a lot of stuff maybe just isn't said too, and they're just assumptions based off of the information that we're given, but they're proving to be true without being said they're true.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah, and we can still dive into it because you know, why not?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_02

But we could do what we want. There's no rules here.

SPEAKER_00

It's true. Uh oh, I have something else to say. But like at the end, no, no, no, at the end, about like a different series. This can be off camera, it's not that big of a deal. It's just something that I noticed that I'm like, we should not do that, but anyway, okay, so oh now we're gonna get into it now. So I was small tiny tangent. I was trying to find something else to watch on Netflix the other day. I was like getting ready to like drive somewhere, and I was like, okay, like I'm doing my makeup, let me put on something. Wish I watch. I'm like, I want to watch this last episode of Quickbeat so bad. And I'm like, I can't. So I was yeah, so as I'm like scrolling through like the Netflix like homepage, I see there's another show with eight episodes limited series from Netflix, and I'm like, okay, let's try this. And I forgot what oh, it's called The Stranger, right? So I start watching it, and it's supposed to be like two stories intertwined by like some random person telling them something that they know about their whole lives. So I started watching The Stranger. I don't know if you've ever seen it. Yeah, yeah, I wouldn't watch it because like halfway through the episode they show a dead dog in like a very gruesome way, and so I had that stuck in my head all day, and I was really upset about it, and I they fuck Netflix fucked up. You know, why do you have to do that? It was really gross.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe it's in my list. I feel like it's so familiar.

SPEAKER_00

It was a really interesting storyline. This guy is like with his kids at like a soccer pub. It's like um in like Great Britain, like the UK or whatever, because they all have accents, and um, so they're in like this this football like bar or whatever they're called, like pub, and this random lady walks up to like this guy. Who's like a dad, he's married, and was like, Your wife lied to you about the miscarriage, it was no miscarriage, and it was just weird because then like he and she's like, and by the way, if I were you, I would do a paternity test on your kids. Yeah, it was just it was weird, and so this is so familiar. And so like the guy goes home, he's like his wife's on vacation right now. So he goes home, he starts tearing through like all their like um mementos of their children, so like basically like all the ultrasound photos and stuff like that, and like birth certificates and stuff, and he's like comparing like the only has spoiling in case I watch it, but yeah. Well, I just I couldn't get past that dog scene. I was like, the no, but that was like a whole other storyline, and it was really surrounding that idea, and I could see where it was going, and I'm like, this is disgusting. So I just I'm I'm disgusted by the fact that I saw this. I wasn't I didn't think it was going in this direction, but it it really seemed good because like he was comparing like the ultrasounds and there was a discrepancy, and so um, and they were like, Oh, and the stranger in the bar was like also look up your credit card statement for like funsi playtime or something like that. And so he calls up his like credit card company and he's like, What's this charge for funsi playtime? They're like, Oh, that's like um um a pseudonym that like some companies use for like something that you don't want it to be.

SPEAKER_02

This is so freaking familiar. Why do I know?

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I think you've probably seen this.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe I I don't know. I'm gonna have to look it up. You and I are gonna have to talk about this off air.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's why I didn't want to get in. You can just cut this out, but like that's why I was like, we can't get past this. But then it's like as soon as that part of the scene's over, because they call us this credit card company, and they're like, Yeah, we can find out what like funsi playtime is, like the actual business name. It's like if you let's say you order like a dildo or something, and it's like from like Adam and Eve, right? Like that's the first um website that I can think of. Instead of having Adam and Eve on your credit card statement, they would use like I don't know, like um party time, like just like something like to cover the name, so that's why like you could be discreet, like you share your account with somebody else. It it could be a discreet charge, and so that's what that was. And so I was thinking, like, oh shit, maybe she bought maybe she bought a fake pregnancy test that said positive, and maybe she bought a fake stomach or something off of like a website, and then it was you know, so like I don't know what that was. That's what I'm assuming.

SPEAKER_02

I may have to watch it, like or look at it tomorrow and see why this all seems so damn familiar, but I can't remember why. Well, you've intrigued me, but yeah, the first part was good.

SPEAKER_00

That first story, if they would have just stuck with that, it would have been better. And I'm sure both stories like come together at the end, but yeah, I don't know. Yeah, anyway, that's not because I was I was thinking like at first, I was like, oh shit, if I watched this whole thing and it's another like eight-episode limited series, it could be vice versa. Right, I wouldn't do it, I can't move past that. I'm sorry. Like, because I know we're talking about like what to do next, and that's a big series that we're talking about. So, like I thought maybe this would be another small thing to like work on and like hit smaller things like that, but like no, thank you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, I'll check it out, and maybe if I can get past it, maybe we can just like I can tell you what time to skip. Like just just don't watch from this minute to this minute, and maybe the the rest of it is okay, but we'll see. We'll see. Yeah, because that would make a lot of sense. But yeah, uh I mean we could always do a Patreon bonus episode with the C like we could just watch the series and then you know talk about the episodes. We don't even have to do episode by episode, we could just do an overview for like you know, episodes one through four and then four five through eight or whatever it is.

SPEAKER_00

We could, it's just the fact that if somebody's like torturing animals, it's not just gonna be one animal, it's gonna be multiple.

SPEAKER_02

I get I I totally understand what you're saying. That's what I'm saying. If it's just maybe the one scene, we can get past it, but we'll see.

SPEAKER_00

If it's like the storyline, which that's just like the vibe that I got from the one scene, um, then that's something I don't really want to talk about. I'm just sad because it seemed really good until that. Anyway, where are we?

SPEAKER_02

I don't even know.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, this is when like Ethan comes downstairs after he gets like all this giant file email from Emma with like all the photos. Not yet, not yet. Ethan gets an email from Emma, and that's when she was like apologizing for lying earlier. Like, this is all the shit that I have from Danny slash Nick. Right. He then kind of scrolls through everything, but I don't think he sent it to Allison. He then went downstairs.

SPEAKER_02

I think Sophie called them to have a discussion about like he sent it to Allison because then after he went downstairs, that's how she gets the metadata. That's how that's how she finds the address.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so yeah, so Ethan goes downstairs and it's like a little family meeting. So it's Sophie, Ethan, and Kai. And Sophie's like, look, I think it's time to skip town. Maybe let's go to Phoenix. So she's looking to move them like all the way from California to Arizona, which I think is where Ruby, her mom, lives. Yeah, that's what she said. I think that's what she said, yeah. So Ethan, Kai like makes some comment and walks away.

SPEAKER_02

Because he Ethan doesn't want to move, and Kai's like, Why you have no friends?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they were just having like sibling banter. Kai said like some fucked up shit, and Ethan was like, That's fucked up. Like he called him out on it, and Kai like stormed away like a kid, like it's fine, whatever. It's like there's a lot of shit going on in their lives right now, and being told that like they need to uproot themselves from everything that they know is just like and like that would mean like leaving Pia behind too. And even though Ethan's the one that has like the closer relationship with Pia, I'm sure Kai would definitely be affected by that. So Ethan then just starts talking to Sophie about how like Ethan's talking to his mom, and he just like had hope to turn everything around. He tells his mom that he was in touch with MFP's life and that she was lying. And Sophie's like, no, she literally told me to my face that she like she was having an affair with dad, with your dad, with my husband. And Ethan's like, no, yeah, but no, like here's the video proof. And Sophie's completely fucking mind blown. She's like, Oh my god, we have to go with the police at the same time. Kai is eavesdropping, hears this, goes up to Ethan's room. I don't know why, goes onto his computer, sees email.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I think it's because when he walked in on Ethan before, Ethan got startled and closed whatever he was, whatever windows he had opened so that Kai wouldn't see. Oh, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You're right, he was suspicious of that.

SPEAKER_02

He was like, Well, we're gonna be like he was suspicious about what what he was doing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so he went and eavesdropped on his brother's computer, sort of a file, and he starts looking through all the photos that we've seen. He stops on the one of Nick, Ethan, and himself that Emma sent over. And so it's just so strange. Like, I'm sure it was running through this kid's mind. What is this woman doing with the photo of all the like how does she get this? And so at that same time, Alison is texting Ethan, the notification shows up on his computer, and she's like, metadata. And so Kai writes back as if he's Ethan and does like a bunch of question marks, like, what do you mean? And she sends over an address. She's like, I think this is where all this information's coming from. Like, as if she tracked like the IP address to like um like a geographical location, and so it shows like an address.

SPEAKER_02

An address, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And the address is 12281 Holt Place in Oakland, California. So anyway, Kai sees the address. We stopped there um just for now. That's basically like Allison was saying, like, I think this is the location of the catfisher. I think that's actually what she says in the the text that Kai sees. And in my head, I'm like, oh my god, that's Matt's like apartment, or that's like the office. I don't know, because we don't know whose computer he was doing it on. Like Matt's office in the college.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know the college's address. I don't think it's ever said for us to make that connection. So I don't know if it's Matt's apartment or if it's the if it's the college, um, and then he would know to like go to the office, you know, because it's the IP of the computer itself, and Pia found all that information on the computer in his office, not in his apartment. So I don't I don't know. That's just like what I was thinking. It could be somewhere completely different, it could be like a library he was doing this from.

SPEAKER_02

But well, speaking of Matt, the scene, the scene moves to Pia and she gets home and finds Matt waiting for her outside her apartment.

SPEAKER_00

After on her way home, being on the phone with the Miriam, like, I did this, this, and that. And he's like, You shouldn't have done that. And he's like, but we'll put out like a search warrant or something.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_00

Um, and so like she gets home, she goes to walk to her apartment, and Matt's sitting there like on the steps of her apartment, like, hi Pia. I'm Matt. He says something dumb like that.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah, and he confronts her about breaking into his computer.

SPEAKER_00

He was like, Linda told me that fucking rat, Linda.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I swear. And you know, the situation gets very uncomfortable, and but that's also because like Pia just spills her guts to Matt.

SPEAKER_00

I know you did this, I know you did that. Oh, she's so reckless.

SPEAKER_02

And then we see Ellie again.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so Ethan, what am I saying? So P is alluding what she thinks to Matt, and Matt catches on really fast, and he's like, Why are you asking me about what I was doing with Nick? Like, what are you trying to say? And he's walking towards her and she's backing up. So, like, Matt's like starting to corner Pia, and all of a sudden, like Ellie fucking shows up, which is Pia's roommate from like episode one. Remember? Yeah, that we were talking about the handwriting. Yeah, my god, and uh she's just like, What's going on here with her little Australian accent? And Matt's like, see in chemistry, like some dumb shit. Like, I'll see you tomorrow.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and um, yeah, but because Ellie shows up, Matt leaves, but then and Ellie is like, you know, is everything okay? And you know, like, yeah, yeah, yeah. But she realizes that something is not right because you can tell that the situation is pretty tense, but then she still tells Pia, Okay, see you inside, and walks away. It was so weird, Ellie.

SPEAKER_01

It really, it really was.

SPEAKER_02

I would not go inside if I if I thought my friend was in trouble, I'm I'm staying outside. Oh well, they're not very they're not friends. I know, but I know, but you I'm sure she still doesn't want to see her get killed, right?

SPEAKER_00

Like you think, maybe and you know the worst part was was that Pia is like okay, Pia like quickly decompresses and she's like, Let me go home. And then she gets a call from Sophie, and she's literally standing on the steps where Matt was sitting. She gets the call from Sophie that oh, because Sophie goes to check on like the kids, right? And this is what I mean by wholesome, because Ethan, after showing his mom the evidence that he has from today and like Sophie being like, Let's go to the police department about this, Ethan goes to bed, he starts having like really good memories of his dad, and like you can tell, like Ethan almost has closure almost, as in like Ethan knows that everything will get solved, and even though life is still shit because like his dad was like murdered. Um he knows that his dad's going like vindicated. Yeah, and so like you see him just like laying in bed, like really excited about tomorrow. At the same time, Kai sneaks out, puts a fucking like stuffed animal on the a basketball in his bed, and covers it with his sheets. Like, how cringy.

SPEAKER_02

My god, it's such a little kid thing to do. It is right, like that Kai is a little kid, just the kid, you know.

SPEAKER_00

He's he's a baby, but yeah, but Sophie goes to check up on him, sees this, and she's like, Oh shit, she calls Pia. Pia is on the steps of her own apartment and is like, Kai is missing, I'll be right there. Pia turns right around. What if Matt was still like walking away and called her while she was going back to her car? Like, what the fuck? Sophie.

SPEAKER_02

We should all be so brave and so headstrong as Pia.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. And so we're assuming that Pia is going to drive to Sophie's house. And the last thing that we see is Kai with his phone, with the address, which is like the 12281 Hall place, Oakland, California. And with his phone in one hand with the address and a baseball bat in the other one.

SPEAKER_02

He's he's following directions on his phone to the address. This little kid, man. Well, he did say he was gonna stab him in the throat or something, but I don't know what he was saying. He was gonna do something in the throat, but you can't you can't stab him with a baseball bat, buddy. That's not how that works.

SPEAKER_00

So, like it right. I mean, like in the previous episodes when Kai was like making empty threats like that, it just sounded like a little kid just saying shit. But like after this episode, it makes you think, wow, like he would actually go and do something because he just beat up Michael. He wasn't provoked by Michael, like Michael didn't come up to Kai and say something, but Kai still like just beat the shit up out of that kid. Yeah, he like broke his face, you know? Yeah, I'm not even exaggerating, like and so just like I really I really really hope we're not in a situation where in the next episode Kai goes to do something, forgets the fact that your weapon can become a weapon against you, and like if he goes and confronts Matt and he goes to hurt Matt, Matt could take the baseball bat and hurt him if he gets it. Weapons are still weapons, you know what I mean? And so I really hope we don't see that in episode eight, and then we see like Kai is like tied up and being held hostage or for some reason, or like being hurt, or something. I mean, like we're obviously not gonna be seeing like the same fate as Nick because like that was Simon and his his insignificant friend who did that. I don't even care about his name. Gavin? I don't fucking know, some dumb shit.

SPEAKER_01

Daryl? Daryl Daryl, Daryl. Something with a D.

SPEAKER_00

It's not that that name's bad. It's not that any of the names are bad, it's just I didn't like the character. So and I don't really feel like his name fit him either. I would have just called him like a Judd, like a Judd. Anyway. I just really hope that we have closure in episode eight and we don't see any more unfortunate events like Kai getting himself in deep trouble.

SPEAKER_02

There's only one way to find out. Oh, I know.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

And now I'm thinking, like, am I gonna watch it tonight? It's like 11:30 already. Like, am I gonna watch it tonight? Am I gonna watch it tomorrow? I know when am I gonna watch it?

SPEAKER_02

Tomorrow or Sunday. As much as I mean, obviously I know what happens, and as much as I want to watch again so bad, Friday is usually my law and order day. Oh, but I have you know, I just like have a bunch of shit to do around the house too.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I don't know, it depends on how I know, but it's like so good. Maybe the laws are in order in this episode, and so it could count okay.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I don't know if that makes sense, but it makes sense.

SPEAKER_00

Uh I had a dream last night. Um, I was having really like weird dreams last night. I decided to put some like rosemary oil in my head and I didn't dilute it, which is my fault. I know it fucked up just for like stimulating hair growth or whatever. I do that sometimes. But anyway, so I was having all these really fucked up dreams because I didn't dilute the rosemary oil. I was gonna say your hair looks darker. I was gonna ask if you dye it, and I kept forgetting to ask you.

SPEAKER_02

You're the second person who asked me that. And no, I did not dye it.

SPEAKER_00

It looks I know it's just lighting right now, but it looks like dark, it looks good, like really good. You're welcome.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, how the how to do it. Your hair does look good.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, that's fine. I mean, like when your hair is like curly to straight, you see like, oh shit, your hair's really long. I remember the first time you straightened your hair, I was like, damn.

SPEAKER_02

Too much, because then I don't want to look like little orphan annie when it curls up. Exactly. Like, no, no, I get that, you know.

SPEAKER_00

I'm sure you had like a nice childhood face where that was your life too.

SPEAKER_02

My whole like toddlerhood. But you know what's weird? By the time I got to about like first grade or second grade grade, great, grade, uh, my hair was pinched straight naturally.

unknown

Really?

SPEAKER_02

So when did it get curly? And then somewhere late elementary school-ish, it got curly again. By junior high school, it was the same as it as it is now.

SPEAKER_00

Well, maybe like puberty kind of pushed that through.

SPEAKER_02

And like in elementary school, it was straight. That's so weird. I was gonna see if I could find pictures. Straight, pin straight. I'm talking about like Asian girl straight, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like no, I know I have like I have naturally straight hair, all it does is just like flop straight, so I understand.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, wow. So weird.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, I had a dream last night that like his mom. No, no, that's okay. That I I forgot Nick's mom's name. Fuck, Paula?

SPEAKER_02

Oh no, Andrea.

SPEAKER_00

Andrea, there we go. I had a dream that Andrea did it, and she was like so like hopped up on like Vikadin, she didn't realize that she did it.

SPEAKER_02

Brittany, you just solved the whole thing.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, maybe no, don't do that, don't do that at all. I remember being in my dream and just like watching this in my dream and being like, what the fuck?

SPEAKER_02

But imagine if you really did solve it and how you'll feel next episode when you realize you may have.

SPEAKER_00

We're being led to a point. Why would excuse me, why would they lead us all the way to this point where it's like PS and Matt's computer? She realizes he had nothing to do that night, he has like no legitimate alibi now.

SPEAKER_02

In the name of the show, you know, clickbait gets you to click on it expecting one thing, and then they give you something else.

SPEAKER_00

We had that in episode six though, they wouldn't do it in the last episode. Did they what was it in episode six? Episode six, we thought Simon killed him the whole time. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. At the end, he let him go. And that was just at the end of the episode, I was just like, I was like, oh my god, like what the fuck? Like, I thought I remember watching a scene. Like, I think I remember watching the scene where it shows them with the truck on the side of the road when like Nick was riding his bike, they injected him with um whatever, yeah, whatever they did to him. I remember watching that scene and being like, These are the murderers, and then I was like, These aren't the murderers. I don't think Daryl caught up with him. Like, I really think what if they are?

SPEAKER_01

What if they came back? I don't I don't think so. I really don't think so. That's not my theory.

SPEAKER_02

We're gonna have to stop speculating, and you're just gonna have to go watch and get your closure.

SPEAKER_00

I um I need closure, but you know what?

SPEAKER_02

We forgot one thing in this episode, which was Pia talks to Sophie about how their dad died. Yeah, that's important. I don't know why I closed OK because Pia is trying to explain to Sophie why she doesn't think that it's Nick, and and she asks Sophie what he told her about how their dad died, and Sophie says he died of a heart attack, and Sophie tells um Pia tells her the truth that it was suicide, and how that's the reason that Nick Nick never would have, you know, he he never would have goaded anyone into suicide. But not only does Sophie find out, but Sophie is so hurt, and she even and she tells her, you know, like I thought I was part of the family. And Pia just tells her, you know, I'm I'm sorry, but you know, my mother just never wanted to talk about it, and and this is what she's like she told us to tell people, yeah. But Sophie is so hurt by that that she never knew the truth, and I don't blame her. I mean, at that point, you guys are together for so long, you have you know, on on all accounts, right? Especially now that you see that these are all uh like fake profiles, that you actually had a pretty good marriage and you had the kids, and for more or less you were happy and you were never let in on the secret. I don't know, I could see how that's hurtful.

SPEAKER_00

I think I think the whole reasoning behind maybe Nick not verbalizing that to Sophie was that it's I it was in the last episode, yeah. Nick said it, I think, to Simon that he him and Pia were the one who found their dad. And so Sophie I'm sorry, Pia then has said that that was so traumatic, or Nick said. It was so traumatic for the both of them. And so maybe Nick just really put that behind him. Whereas Pia has kept in the forefront. Pia obviously has. I mean, like, I'm gonna just connect that to her reckless behavior and just her needing to do extreme things to feel a different type of pain to take that pain away, which is something common. Yeah, I mean, like, that's a common thing with people with trauma or people who are really upset over something. They want to experience a different pain to take away the mental pain.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So, and that could be her just like getting drunk or taking random pills or you know, doing whatever Pia does. Pia obviously, I don't want to say is a party lifestyle, but it's it's things that are associated with the party lifestyle. Yeah. I mean, like the first episode, she was drinking random people's beers. What if those were like spiked?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you know, or like I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Just me looking to meet random people on Tinder, which is in itself a risk.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe it was just more of bad adrenaline. Yeah, no, but but it's true, she was looking to meet up with random people, and like honestly, like that must be such like I I've never done that. Like, that must be such an adrenaline rush in both a good way and a bad way, right? That you don't know what kind of situation you're walking into. Maybe that's the type of feeling that she needs to get over that pain. Meanwhile, what we know about Nick, he doesn't do things like that to get over his pain.

SPEAKER_02

No, he's the complete opposite. So he has word is looked brewer.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, yeah, so he obviously has like the ultimate repressed, yeah, he is the ultimate dork, but like he really repressed that pain. Really, really repressed it, and maybe that's why he never told Sophie about it. Because if you don't acknowledge it, then it it wasn't true, right? You know, right.

SPEAKER_02

If you don't get it, yeah, and I can I can I can see that scenario also where he may not want to have he may not want to have relived it. Did my words come out right? You did it right. Okay. I did a good job.

SPEAKER_00

No, you're fine, you're fine.

SPEAKER_02

Um, yeah, and and so as much as it may hurt Sophie, maybe he maybe in some way he figured he didn't have to because he would only be reliving it and and what's the point? Um, who who you know, how would this ever come out?

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, and then maybe he was just like afraid too that maybe Sophie would act differently around his mom and his sister knowing this, and then also like okay, I'm putting myself in Sophie's shoes. If like my significant other told me like a big family thing like that, and as a significant other, I'd be worried about the way my partner is gonna treat me, the way my partner is gonna treat my family, and the fact that they know something that everybody knows, but like my other family members don't know that I told them that. And they're and the person that I told my partner is aware of the fact that the other people don't know that I know, you know what I mean? So like it would just be a weird all-around situation. Maybe he just didn't want that to be part of their relationship, he just wanted to focus on life and not death. Yeah, so yeah, I feel like maybe that's why, and I can understand why Sophie was upset about that, but it was not necessarily to protect her, but to just not focus on the negatives, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and in reality, in the reality of this fake TV show, I mean who knows? I guess it it could have been a whole slew of reasons that this fake character had for not telling his fake wife. But but at the end of the day, all we know is that Sophie was hurt by the omission.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I am uh so fucking excited to watch this last episode, and it's so bittersweet because then after this episode, I don't have anything.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, we're gonna do um our recap, and you know, we may we'll probably invite some of our pod family to join us and we'll do like a little pod party.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, little pod party, a little pod party, and yeah, maybe we'll do some extra research for that episode too, like try to find interviews or like behind the scenes or delete a scenes. I'm sure everything's on YouTube. I'm just purposely not searching for things because I don't want to see these spoilers. Yeah, I like to see an interview with the actors, like especially Nick's, the actor that plays Nick, and I want to know like how he felt about everything that was happening to his character. So I'm curious to see like other people's perspectives, like especially like the people who were in the show, like their perspectives on the storyline, or maybe an interview with Ben Young, which is the director.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, the director. That's Ben Park.

SPEAKER_00

Ben Ben Park. Yeah, I already I fucked that up like last episode.

SPEAKER_02

So uh but yeah, yeah. So I mean, there's still there's still one more episode, and then like I said, um we do the recap and we can get much more into storyline and character development and and how the show progressed over the eight episodes, and then at the end, knowing the outcome, do we you know how we feel about the episodes and who they focused on and how they progressed? And I think I said that just now, but with a a complete picture, so yeah, it'll be easier to discuss things, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It'll be like it'd be really nice actually, like not in the last episode, but like after the our full eight episodes are over to discuss things that we acknowledge, or I acknowledge, or not both of us acknowledge like the first few episodes, and how that relates to the outcome at the end, and and if you know, and and then how it started versus how it finished and uh how we thought about the show from start to finish.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, but I think it's important, like you just said, to to finish the series to digest it and then reflect after and then reflect, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because you need you need that time to yeah, but with that I cannot wait to watch the next episode. I can't I know I can't wait to talk about the next episode, and this has been really awesome, like just to reflect on everything. Like, this is my first podcast experience. I'm having a great time. Well, not really. I mean, I was on like us, but like some of your episodes before, but like this is just really fun to like be a part of this, you know. I'm having a I'm having a blast. I hope everybody else is having a good time listening. Yeah, and it's just really fun that we get to do this together too.

SPEAKER_02

I love this.

SPEAKER_00

And I love that today I didn't get asked about adjectives and nouns. You know, it was really cute at first. I love it, but it's so difficult to think of these things on the spot.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, well, think of start thinking of them now because next week I'm gonna ask you. You know what it is? I love the mad libs upstairs and I didn't want to go get it.

SPEAKER_00

That's funny to stay up there. You're off the hook, and I love the golden girls, I really, really do. I just I'm not good at the mad libs. Something else next episode, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

We'll figure it out. Maybe clickbait next episode, episode eight, the answer. I'm so excited. Not that it's ending, but I'm so excited for you to get your closure. I'm so excited, yeah. Um, yeah, I I can't wait to hear all of your thoughts. And if you're gonna watch it tonight, I can't wait for all the text messages.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, that's what happened after episode seven, like right when like Ellie intruded on Matt and Pia. Yeah, you're right. I was just like, oh my god, wait, what did I text to? Because I have it right here too. I was like, so I'm up to the part where Matt is at peace and I need to stop too fucking creepy for the night. You're like, L O L. And I was like, yo, Ellie couldn't rescue. Wow. Yeah, you're like, I still have to rewatch it, just like being very general. And I was like, but but and you're like, no.

SPEAKER_02

I know because I I want to, but I know I can't. And I appreciate that. I do. All right, Miss Brittany.

SPEAKER_00

Well, luckily I'm home because I'm a little drunk now from my really strong gin and jam, which reminds me to tell y'all do not drink and drive. Yes, no, stay at home and take a drink and talk to your friends on the internet.

SASPOD. All right, that um, yeah, and we're we're pretty active on social media, so you can connect with us there. But tell a friend, you know, do the thing, help us out, and we will send together next episode. Yes, and make sure you come back for episode eight with your drinks.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe you guys can like have your own little like hey, let's grab a drink and listen to this together. Kind of like that. Oh, what was that show with Selena Gomez? No, what was that show with Selena Gomez on Hulu?

SPEAKER_02

Umly murders in the building, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like that when they all got together and listened to the well, I mean, like there was like something going on. Murder in the building, yeah, there was, but like they all got together and they were like talking to podcasts together. Do that with your friends, listen to the last episode, which I can't it's a listen, listen party.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, look, have everyone already just sits with people they know and stares at their phone and ignores each other anyway. So you might as well just listen to the same thing at the same time. At least then if you have to shut it off or your phone dies, you'll have something to talk about. Yeah, yeah. See, we're hoping you connect and make friends. Come on, come on, service. But that's about it. Like, I'm so done for the night, I need to take my ass to bed. Brittany needs to go watch the last episode.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I do. I'm so excited.

SPEAKER_02

We'll meet you back here for episode eight. Yes, yeah. So until then, I'm Lisa.

SPEAKER_01

I'm Brittany, and we are out of here. Come back for the last episode.
