Hi and welcome to this episode of Assassin's Sips. Today we're talking about Good Girls, Season 3, Episode 6, Frere Jacque.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Frère Jacque, Feris Jaka, Dome Vu, Dome Vu.
SPEAKER_03I don't know how to do the rest in French.
SPEAKER_02I am Lisa and I am sipping on a little bit of actually white wine today.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_02It was it was there.
SPEAKER_03I'm doing the whole Ferrijaka thing on my thumb. You know. Okay, I have no life. And I am Agnes. Um, and I'm drinking my Starbucks, not to plug a brand, but yeah, my shaken espresso with oat milk and white chocolate mocha and vanilla colour. Oh, you're one of those. Well, you know what it was? Um, I usually have a my, I have my drink, but every so often I was something different. And sometimes, like on the app, they say, try this drink, try this drink. You know, try, you know. So I'm like, fuck it, let me try this drink. And it's fucking amazing. But I always get with extra shots. So it kind of tastes like a graham cracker. Not a graham cracker, like like, yeah, the graham cracker, the cereal graham cracker, the graham cracker cereal. So it's delicious. It's scrumptious, and then extra shots. But I get with decaf. Because, you know, I can't have caffeine. Because OD is a bitch. Okay. Hot takes. And not enough talking about my coffee habit.
SPEAKER_02Just like face plant, you know? Or not face plant, but face palm. What? Like when you do this.
SPEAKER_03Yes, face palm.
SPEAKER_02Face palm.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, just Lisa stress the fuck out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just oh my god, this this episode just had me like, no, why why? Why? Why are you doing that? So that that that's my hot take, I guess.
SPEAKER_03So are you gonna tell me um when we get to each scene, your face pal moments? Okay. Oh, I wish you guys could see Lisa right now. She is distressed. She's like she's like about to give a cat a bath, kind of distressed. She's just yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's probably easier.
SPEAKER_03So the top of this week's episode, the ladies are mourning Lucy's death and Ruby's reflecting on how it could have been any one of them. And they're going through her purse, and it's I think she she had a lot of, you know, just typical stuff. And a lipstick that she never used. And Ruby's, I think Ruby started off saying that she she didn't she couldn't wait. I think they said something to the fact of we just stood there watching, did nothing. And then Ruby said, I couldn't watch, and then Beth goes, I couldn't watch it either. And Annie, she's like, I did.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And it was a really it's it was a serious moment for this show. Watching someone die is one thing, and that's not easy. Watching someone murdered get murdered, and it could have been, it's just I couldn't even imagine. So Ruby asks, so what are we gonna do? And Beth says the only thing she can say is we print. So of course, as expected, Beth is blindsided at work when Lucy's boyfriend shows up with Dorothy. She comes to work, her coworker, she's I'm just gonna drop my bag off. And the coworkers, Dorothy's in the back waiting for you. Dorothy's the owner. And so not only Dorothy's in there, it's Lucy's boyfriend and a police officer.
SPEAKER_02And the way, does he have a name? Does the boyfriend have a name? He does, uh, but I don't know it.
SPEAKER_03Okay, good. Okay, so it's just not me. Okay, great. He's just Lucy's boyfriend. The way he says she's the last person that saw her alive. It was just really, it was just like he knows something. He didn't. It was just really foreshadowing, kind of. So because of everything that's happening, Dorothy goes, we're closing early, there's no more night shifts until we figure out what's going on with Lucy. Womp, womp. Um, there goes the printing idea. So back at Stan and Ruby's house, Stan tells Ruby his he got a letter and his suspension is up for review, and he might be able to get his badge back. But Ruby's like, well, how, you know, with her egg rolls, like, how's it gonna affect him getting his job back? So she's a little stressed out. Next scene is Beth meets with the CEO, C F O, the all the O's, Rio, all the rhymes. But she doesn't have extra cut the money for him. The guy was the one that she made the the deal with. He goes, again? She goes, one more, like, what can I tell you? I don't have it. And then here comes Rio. Rio comes out of the car. And she's like, it's your fault, pretty much. Like, you do have to kill Lucy. He's like, I disagree. I was just like, he goes, you know, the whole bad apple thing. And he goes, it's just business, darling. She goes, Well, because you did it, I they're shutting down the shop. I can't work nights. No, Lucy's boyfriend brought the cops in, and the owner of the business doesn't want us close the late shifts anymore. So he goes to ask for me. I need her his address. She goes, I'm not giving it to you. This is your fault.
SPEAKER_02What do you think he was gonna do to him?
SPEAKER_03Um, knowing Rio, just handling it. Well, it could have been anything. He could have it could have been anything. He could have sit, I don't know. He was gonna handle it. But of course, if he would have done it his way, the cops would have that that would have brought more issues. But anyway. But the he when he said, you, me, we, it's just business. Um, I think he was talking more, he wasn't just talking about the whole Mac situation, but maybe that's just me in my head. So she goes, okay, so she pacifies, she's like, I'll figure out a way to do it. The girls are trying to figure out her password, and Ruby's like, one, two, three, four, four, three, two, one. And going through all this. Annie goes, what's her boyfriend's birthday? Breth goes, I don't know. She goes, but what was Aju's birthday? She goes, You think I know that? Like, but those are good guesses, but no one knows, no one's gonna figure it out. But then Ruby notices that it's the new phone. And she goes, the passwords are the only way to open it. And we're like, and everyone watching it were like, yeah.
SPEAKER_01The problem is that I think with all the iPhones, I don't I don't remember if they always did this, but if it's an iPhone, once you fail to like put in It lacks for 600 billion years, doesn't it?
SPEAKER_02Well, no, not that, but then so like let's say if I try to log in like with my face or whatever, and it doesn't register my face, once you have like a failed attempt to log in, you can't use your face anymore. You have to use your passcode.
SPEAKER_01I didn't know that. That makes sense.
SPEAKER_02I know that because my last phone hated my face. And so it it never opened. So like as soon as I picked up my phone, it would say incorrect. And then like it I have to put a pass like it didn't even want my face anymore. It would just say like no. Like sometimes it would say try again, but depending on the angle, like how it would just Why would you even bother having the option on then? It but it it worked at first and then it just stopped working. Okay. But I also dropped my phone about 47,000 times. So you know, might have been me.
SPEAKER_03The phone was like Fuck you, leave me alone.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, and so it doesn't I just know that eventually the iPhones got to technology where if you got locked out of your phone, not locked out, but if it if you did it recognize option one, you had to do option two. Right. Like if you tried to unlock the phone and then it didn't unlock, you couldn't just use your face. Well uh or your thumbprint for that matter. Because my iPad is still uh touch.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Well, I'm for the I don't know. I don't know. I don't know either. I just thought I just thought that's what I was thinking of. I was like, they wouldn't have been able to use her face.
SPEAKER_03I mean, I mean f it allowed us to witness atrocities, this episode.
SPEAKER_02I know. For the sake of the show, it works.
SPEAKER_03Atroc I can't even like this episode was just like, what? Um, so Beth goes to her buddy, Rio's right hand man. He goes, You still didn't pay me for the last favor. She goes, exactly. I need your help so I can do this, so I can pay you. Like it's it's a circle, it's a vicious circle. And he goes, I want something in return, and your husband's not gonna like it. And she goes, really loud, I got her piece. Like smacked in the middle of the restaurant.
SPEAKER_02And then this was the first one.
SPEAKER_03Like, I know that that's what we were supposed to think, but I actually assumed it was the hot tub. That was my like your husband's not gonna like it. I'm like, okay, hot tub.
SPEAKER_02Well, I wasn't thinking hot tub necessarily um, you know, but like something that's not her, you know, her yeah.
SPEAKER_01I have herpes. Dumbass. What would you have said at that point? I think I would have just stared at him. Like better than herpes, I guess.
SPEAKER_02I'm not I I don't think I was gonna yell out that I have herpes in a restaurant. Or anywhere, actually.
SPEAKER_03Or anywhere, right.
SPEAKER_01Um he's like, I just want a hot tub.
SPEAKER_02And then I'm not mad at it. I'd rather I'd rather have a hot tub than him also, but also he is not ugly. No, no, he wasn't, no, cause and I feel bad because I thought the same thing. Oh my god, thank you, Lisa. I just I was afraid to say it because I'm like You know he's one of those guys that just looks scary, but he's he's a giant teddy bear. You know, he and he I don't catch him in the street. But catch him at home, you'll differ.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_03I thought it was something wrong with me because I'm like, I would jump on it.
SPEAKER_02Right? Definitely.
SPEAKER_03I'm over here watching the episode. I'm like, oh my god, I got issues, I'm toxic, I have problems, I'm never gonna voice the and then I felt like I would totally jump on that.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Thank you, Lisa. I feel so much better.
SPEAKER_03Um, so when Beth gets home from her lunch, she Dean is like, Dorio, stop singing. I think he's sick. Is he sick? She's like, he goes, I can't be sick. I can't watch something else die. And she goes, I can't either. And he just looks at her like, oh fuck. Like he already knows. And then you get right into he's over here going over the guy's preferences for his hot tub. I kind of like the fact that they're kind of on a they're working together. Um, mental note, I have so much to say about another scene with her, him, and the bird. And I'm just like, right. I'm like, are you kidding me? This moment and still nothing, but okay. We're gonna go we're gonna wait. I'm gonna have patience. So now you see the girls and the car, they're following him, and they're like, what are we doing? Like two hours in the dark following a murderer. Like she's she's like, he's not gonna kill us. He wants his hot tub. So he's like, Dean is not gonna order it until we come home. So he wants his hot tub. And they're like, and then he gets out the car and he has like an axe or some kind of weapon. And they're like, really? Like, we get out the car now. They're like, this is not, this is not it. Um so where is she buried? And then you he goes, I don't know, I didn't bury her. And you pan over, they're in a fucking cemetery.
SPEAKER_02I was just like, this. This is the worst scavenger hunt ever. Ever.
SPEAKER_03So in my mind's eye, I'm like, okay, look for freshly dug graves. And then, because you know, I'm a professional TV watcher, and the next thing I hear is, okay, how many freshly dug graves do we have to go?
SPEAKER_01I'm like, oh, see, they did follow my advice. But they find her. And it's a very, it's another moment.
SPEAKER_03They clear her face, they unlock the phone. Now, all the TV shows I've watched and all the movies I've watched, and whenever they have to, and you'll be surprised or you might not be surprised, so you will be surprised how many times they have to take a dead person's face and unlock the phone. It happens a lot. But then they go and they do what they need to do. My first thing I would have done would be to change the security settings so I wouldn't have to keep you know you can't with the iPhone?
SPEAKER_02No. In order to change, well, no, you can't. Because so if you get into the phone and then you want to change the security settings, you need the passcode.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, that's true. You do need the passcode to change it to Android. Okay.
SPEAKER_02So even if you you could like show her face again, I don't think it would work. I think you actually need to put in either the Apple ID or the passcode. But I think just the passcode if you want to change the physical entering and the security chain.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Interesting. Okay, so there it goes. So they unlocked the phone.
SPEAKER_02It's funny because like, you know how they're like, oh, officers that like they try to use your face to get into your phone and shit, like when all the protests were happening, and I was like, I ain't gotta worry about that. They could put in front of my face, they could put it in front of my face all they want. My phone's gonna be like, fuck you and fuck her.
SPEAKER_03And then they'll try so many times, and you'll actually be locked for 600 billion years.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. You know, but but put my phone up on the little car holder thing, and and here I am driving with my sunglasses on, and I just randomly peer over, and it's like, hey, there you are. Open up.
SPEAKER_03Wow, that's you're okay.
SPEAKER_02It'll be on my it'll be on my nightstand in the dark, and I'm like, I hit the thing so I can see what time it is, and it opens, and I'm like, seriously, but when I stare at it, it's like, who's that?
unknownWho's that?
SPEAKER_02Who that?
SPEAKER_03Nufo hoodis. Literally, your phone is like Nufo Hudis.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It was frustrating, but it was a funny joke on me.
SPEAKER_01Um's coming home. Ruby.
SPEAKER_03Actually, I forgot. There's a there's some scenes I forgot to mention. Okay. With um Annie is trying different shrinks and they're all fucking crazy.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01They have bonkers.
SPEAKER_02And perfume.
SPEAKER_01Body world. Seriously, are you wearing perfume? Perfume.
SPEAKER_03I was just like, okay. Um, is the face here with us today? Right now. I was just like, oh god. And she's actually anyway, and she's on the couch, and Ben is looking at different shrinks for her, and he's like, he goes, I found mine on Groupon. She's like, no, thank you. Nope. And he goes, Oh, I found the perfect one, like, and is going through everything.
SPEAKER_02As soon as they said, I found the perfect one, you knew who it was.
SPEAKER_03I knew it was, and it's Josh Cohen. She's like, Fuck me. Little Annie there. Sorry about you. Sorry, listeners. I'm a little off my game today, more so than normal. So Ruby go Ruby's saying goodnight to the kids. And then wait, her son makes his appearance this week. Were we just talking about last week? I was like, oh no, he came back downstairs from disappearance. I was like, oh, okay. Um, she goes, You say your prayer? She goes, inside my head. She goes, good enough. She walks by, her daughter's brushing her teeth, and her daughter goes, Oh my God, I was slap I would slap the teeth out of her mouth. She goes, How does it work? She was like, How does what work? You know, would Dak would be a cop and you being a criminal? And then just I know, but the kid. I get it. I do get it. I just some I think it's her tone and her attitude about it. And understand she's scared, she's questioned, she doesn't know which way is up, which way is down. I totally get it. But as a just a viewer and not being real life, as a viewer, I would knock the taste buds out of her mouth.
SPEAKER_02As right. As the person she's speaking to, you want to just like, mm-hmm. But as the parent, I think that if that were my child, you know, she's lashing out because she doesn't understand what's going on. She's confused, and you know, she's in that weird in-between police. And if you're not a kid, you're not a grown-up.
SPEAKER_03And with that age and the puberty and the hormones, and you know, your mother's making egg rolls. You know what I mean? There's a lot going on in my head. And I do get it.
SPEAKER_02I would just talk to her. I would just talk to her and I would just tell her, listen, I know that it's it might be hard for you to understand where the line is, but we need to stay together as a team. Like, we need to not turn on one another. Like, I I don't I don't know exactly what you say, but but she definitely needs a little wiggle room and cushion to figure her shit out without because if if you go at her hard, it's it's gonna be worse.
SPEAKER_01I concur.
SPEAKER_02You know, and I and I don't say that because I'm a parent who's like, no, just let your kids do whatever they want. Like, you know, it's only it's it only matters if they're happy. Fuck no. But also sometimes you have to recognize the signs, and if one strategy doesn't work, you need to move to the next. Because the the end of the day, the important thing is that you maintain a relationship with your child and that they are safe and secure in themselves. And that obviously they're not doing any kind of harm to themselves or others, respect has to still be there. And and while Sarah wasn't showing it, she's pushing her boundaries. And so without escalating, I think that you know, in in if if that was like a real situation, it's important that it's I don't know what's the word, like it it's softer.
SPEAKER_01You you you have to de escalate. Okay, Dr. Freud.
unknownDr.
SPEAKER_02Freud, not this messy with Doctor Fraud?
SPEAKER_03Freud, Freud.
SPEAKER_02I meant so I thought you called me Doctor Freud.
SPEAKER_03I was like I said fraud, but I meant Freud. No, I didn't mean like no. And it's And it wasn't a free. Maybe that was a fraud yet. I know. No. Just Agnes can't speak, and you should be used to that.
SPEAKER_02Well, I am, except for when they're calling me Dr. Fraud. I didn't mean it. I said, God.
SPEAKER_03Okay, it's a funny story. I don't know what the fuck is wrong with me today. I was talking to my coworker and she was like, well, I don't see the report. I said, well, this has to be the new report because I meant to say it's not highlighted, because the original one would have been highlighted. And I don't know. As this word came out of my mouth, I'm looking at myself in my head, like, bitch, what the fuck? I said, there's no highation of the report. We had a good 20-minute laugh. Like, I my back was hurting because I was laughing so hard. She's like, hilation? Sign your name with high lation. Like, oh no. So yes, it's a new word. Um. So words are so. And that happened today. So, you know, Beth comes home and she looks like a hot like she used to be digging in graves. Oh, because she was. And Dean just blurts out. And this is the moment where I'm like, really? He goes, it's cancer. She's like, what? He goes, I feel a lump. Dorito has cancer. Blah, blah, blah, blah. I can't do this. And she's like, no. He goes, and then he goes, then he says, this is what he says. This is what he says. And as if the writers did this intentionally. He said, well, this is not people cancer. Like it's not human cancer. Because that chemo way more than bird chemo. And I was just like, I started twitching and all that other shit. Because I was like, and Beth is like, no more deaths. I can't do this. Find a, well, we'll find a vet. We'll find a doctor. Dorito's not dying. He goes, there's only an this this is, of course. He goes, there's only one avian specialist in Detroit. He goes, well, make an appointment with them. And I'm like, wow, one specialist in Detroit. I wonder who Aujou went to before. But anyway.
SPEAKER_02Because even if there were five, you know it was still gonna be the same bit.
SPEAKER_03Right. But one. And then the writers did this intentionally. He actually brought up chemo for humans. It's more expensive than chemo for a bird. And they still, you know, they did that intentionally. They had to have done that intentionally. And I didn't catch it the first time I watched it. So they make a whole the ladies decide the next day they're going to make up the line about she's not loving it, she doesn't love him anymore. And I'm saving your life by doing this. And he goes, please forgive me. And Beth was like, why would I forgive him? I mean, me as in Lucy. I use um Find My Friend app. And I know you're at your friend's house. And they're like, oh fuck, what do we do? And they say, come on over, because that's what they do. Beth likes to make things more.
SPEAKER_02As soon as they had taken her purse home and had the phone with it, I was like, what the fuck are you doing? Because as long as it's on, there's a potential for finding it. And then the fact that they're like, well, let's text him from her phone. It's like you just you can't leave well enough alone. And I know that they feel guilty. I know that this really is on them. But either turn yourself in or or or just remove yourself from the situation. Because you're not good at it. No, and there's no in-between.
SPEAKER_03So at the hearing, Ruby, you'd think Ruby is sabotaging him. Like she is like, yeah, we're stress. Yeah, there's my we must say, well, well, how do you how do you they asked her, well, how do you guys relieve the stress? She goes, we daydream of robbing banks, not just banks, jewelry stores, everything. We we want it all. And she goes, Well, what stuff? And you goes, me, nothing. But she was like, he goes, but Stan would arrest me in a heartbeat. And she goes to say what a good person he is. He does get his job back. Well, she comes home and her son is wearing his hat, and she goes, Don't get that dirty. He goes, Dad said, I can have it. And she goes, Well, what happened? He was like, You know, I gave my job back, but I put my sh uniform on and it doesn't, it didn't feel right. He goes, I can let it out. You know, I can make adjustments. He goes like, no, I felt like a fraud. And I think that hurt her. Like, I think she Yeah, she she's internalizing.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_03She's like, I what I did ruined my this man's dream.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because in the beginning of the episode, she's talking about how he w he's been wanting to be a cop since the third grade.
SPEAKER_03So when he said I feel I feel like a fraud, and he goes, You can't fix that. I was a little sad. Yeah. And of course, Max shows up to Beth's house with Froyo. Lucy, he goes, I she's gone. Yeah, I drove her to the airport. I don't know where she's at. And they have a little heart-to-heart for a second. Before he leaves, he does the find my phone or find my friend, or whatever it's called. And he goes, Oh, Arizona. And then we see um Lucy's, I guess they did like the turn in the phone for money. I don't know what the hell they did to it. Whatever. It's on a conveyor belt, gets chucked. I don't think that's over with Max personally. Even before the next scene. Dean is at the doctor's office and um and comes Max, and that his name is Max. And Max and Lucy. Okay. And he says, I have all these bird seats that I don't need. Could I donate them? And there's Dean sitting in the background with Dorito. At the end, he's done with his um appointment. They're in the edge. Dean is getting into the elevator. Max, you know, hold the elevator. And Max looks over and he's like, Where'd you get the bird? He's oh my wife rescued it. He goes, What's his name? Dorito. And then all of a sudden, Max starts whistling, Farah Shaka, Farah Shaka. And Jou goes, Dome Vu, Dome Vu. And then they all look, they both look at each other like, what the fuck? Also, Dorito is Dorita, because she's about to lay an egg. That is the end of Ferra Jaka. Lisa has a big um palm print on her, like implanted on her face right now. This episode stressed her out.
SPEAKER_02I know that there's there may be a way to play off the bird. Right? If Max believes that Lucy went to Beth's house before she drove to the airport, it's believable that she gave her the bird. Although, why wouldn't you give it to her in its own cage?
SPEAKER_03But it went missing before she went missing. Did he know it was missing? No. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He came from his run, the bird was gone. But so was she. Yeah. So was she. I don't know. Um okay.
SPEAKER_02It could be played off though, if they do it smart. I feel like th there's a possibility, a small possibility, but then also it's like, okay, I get why you did that with the phone, but you should have just shut it off and tossed it in a fucking river. I just I just feel like every single time you try to cover something up, it's always worse than whatever happened before it.
SPEAKER_01You're not wrong. So that's all I got. What do you got?
SPEAKER_03Absolutely I told you my stress part was the whole cancer thing. It had me all the way jacked up.
