SPEAKER_01

Hi, and welcome to this episode of Assassin's Sips. Today we are talking about good girls, season three, episode two, not just cards. I'm Lisa, and I am sipping on a small fun glass of red wine. So surprised. Yeah, I know.

SPEAKER_00

Red wine.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I did surprise you because it's a small glass.

SPEAKER_00

It's a small glass. Okay, that that was surprising. And I am drinking oh, I forgot who I was. I am Agnes. Excited about what you were drinking. I know. Well, we're gonna point. I'm trying to see what it is. It's simply spiked. Okay. Like the lemonade. But it's so it's the spiked passion fruit flavor. Can I can we see? Can we see?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, there. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Wait, and there it goes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's coming in and out.

SPEAKER_00

Pause. Sorry. Um, I have the humor of a 12-year-old boy. I am the black 46-year-old version of Beams and Butthead. So, any hot takes for this episode? Episode, I said episode. Wow. Words are hard.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not a hundred percent surprised by events. Um I there's a part of me that wonders if Ray is not as clueless about Beth as she appears.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I wouldn't be surprised if the agent wasn't really dead.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Uh yeah. That's all I could think of right now. I didn't write anything down.

SPEAKER_00

My only hot take, it's not really a hot take per se, is I am finally glad that we know Ben's name. His new name. Because I keep wanting to say Ben. Since season one, I have had to stop myself from saying Ben. Because you would have been like, what?

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

So, yay. We now have Ben's new name. Yay. Okay, and that's the only hot take. I remember this episode.

SPEAKER_01

If I remember more things, I'll interrupt you. Okay, we'll see you guys next week.

SPEAKER_00

Sweet old boy. Thank you. See you. It was great. So this episode opens with a typical idyllic neighborhood. People washing their cars, riding their bicycles. And then you go back and forth. You see Beth in her house, and she's selling furniture because she's trying to get rid of trying to get money to pay back Ray. Back to the neighborhood street, you see blackout G-Wagon. I'm like, yeah. So we know who that is before you even see who it is. And it's Rio looking ominous and mad and dangerous and sexy. Oops, did I say sexy? Back at Beth's house, you hear the doorbell ring, and you she opens the door, and then you see Rio, but the other's but in front of Rio is Ray. You hear the knock. Knock, doorbell. Someone's at the door.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because you're so you're seeing the inside of Beth's house, and then you're seeing Rio sitting like in his car casing the street. And then he goes to the door, he knocks. And the only reason I say it is because when Beth opens the door and stands there and looks, uh Dean's mom is like, You need to get your doorbell fixed. So that's how I said it. Because she complained. That was her first complaint. Okay. So that should be a hot take. That lady.

SPEAKER_00

So you really go back and forth and you don't know until it all transpired. Rio's at his baby mama's house. Because he goes, first of all, before you get the broken doorbell, I was gonna say before as I was gonna say, yeah, you see Rio and he says, Hey mama, like he always says to Beth, and then you see Beth's face, but Beth is looking at her mother-in-law. Right. Right. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And the first thing is not hi, it's you need to get your doorbell fixed.

SPEAKER_00

As she walks in with cleaning supplies. To be quite honest with you, I'm not sure which is worse. Meeting the man, like your mother-in-law is there, or if she opened the door and the man you thought you killed was there. I don't know which was I don't know which one would be worse. Yeah, I don't I don't that's a good point. And bet in Bet's case, in Bet's world, yeah. Yeah, because um, I mean, I don't have any mother-in-laws, but all my serious relationships, they must love me. First boyfriend, she still calls me her daughter, and this was 30 years ago. Um actually longer.

SPEAKER_01

Anywho, my mother showed up, and my mother-in-law showed up, and my daughter'd be like, How the fuck did you get here? What happened?

SPEAKER_02

What happened?

SPEAKER_01

Because she doesn't like driving and she lives a thousand miles away, so you know, other than that, we have a great relationship.

SPEAKER_00

Annie's at dinner sitting next to Ben, and this is when you find out Ben's new name is Ben, and they're having a celebratory dinner with Gregg's and Nancy for Ben's debate win. Gregg looks totally different with shaved head, yeah. It's so weird, right? I'm like, is it a I remember like, is this a different actor? When it was airing, I'm like, wait, is this the same actor?

SPEAKER_01

He looks like he should be riding a skateboard wearing flannel and in the background of like some Avril Levine video.

SPEAKER_00

That or like a like he's like the wish version of an from one of the actors from Prison Break. Like, I feel like he is the lead actor in the wish version of Prison Break. That's what I'm gonna say. Okay. Now you're gonna go back and look at him, like, yeah, I can see that. So while Nance, Nancy is the short version, is Gregor and Nancy are in couples therapy. And she goes, Annie, I just want to thank you. Ben is like, you know what? I'm tapping out. I'm done. I'm going to the bathroom indefinitely. And she goes, we're in couple, we're in couples therapy, and our therapist helped me realize that it's not Gregor's fault it's not Greg's fault that he and she's just looking like, really? Yeah, Greg's fault that he put his dick in someone else's pussy. But anyway, excuse my language. We're gonna have to block that. We're gonna have to like beep that one out because that was a little vulgar.

SPEAKER_01

Um, but one one of them, I I think it was Nancy, like she she's sitting next to Greg and she's like kind of like with her finger like pointing down. Pointing down, yeah. And it's like like if it wasn't even more awkward, it's like, you know, cuz like and then pointing like that. And Annie is just sitting there like, the what?

SPEAKER_00

He goes, she's a what else is this asshole? She didn't say asshole, but I my head is thinking asshole. Uh, what does this asshole have to say? And he's she's going back like you're hurt and you're damaged, and you use Gregor. You're broken. You're broken, and it's you use Gregg to find whatever. I keep calling him Greggle because that's what she calls him, but I know we say a lot about Annie and her impulsiveness, but you have to give her props and not jumping over that fucking table and throttling Nancy. And then Greg, as we all know, has no spine. He's just sitting there.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And somehow he's, and then at later on, they get to talking with him and Annie. He's mad like, you didn't want me. She goes, I think that's always her fault. It's no, I know, I know. Granted, like it took it takes two to do the tango, but somehow it's it's her fault.

SPEAKER_01

But I think Annie is able to see the bigger picture, especially there. It's like I think that she wants their relationship to work out for the benefit of Ben Ben, but also the other kid was Dakota.

SPEAKER_00

Dakota.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know, whichever state it's named after.

SPEAKER_00

But I feel like a Dakota would be a better girl's name than a boy's name.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I feel like I've only ever, yeah. But okay.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe that also ends with an A. I feel like names that end with an A. Yeah. Usually it tends to be female names. But anyway, I'm sorry, go ahead, go forth.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I think that Annie is just staying quiet because she knows that I mean she she knows that she was wrong for her part in it, but more so sucking it up for the sake of Ben and the kids and the other kid than anything else. Because like, yeah, and even her face, like she's sitting there because Nancy is saying how Greg feels this way, and the therapist feels this way, and Greg doesn't say shit, and she's just sitting there staring at Greg like, like, say something, like, say something. I dare you, like, say something, you know. But she does go to the therapist, even though you know she goes in with different intentions, she still does show up. So I'm Annie. I think Annie just wants to try to be the better person for her kid. That's my guess.

SPEAKER_00

And but she always does, she's always goes into these things with good intentions. Back to what I was saying before, like, for example, Beth always has something to say about her making her own decisions and being impulsive and all that stuff. It takes a lot of takes a lot not to, but still takes a lot not to be like, tell her off. You can still tell her off and still go do the therapy, you can still do that. She needed to be told off, but she did it. So that takes a lot of the shit eating for no reason. Now you see, and this part confused me. Annie is now working at a convenience store, and Beth is drinking.

SPEAKER_01

I say a gas station or something.

SPEAKER_00

Gas station convenience store, like whatever.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And and I I say a slurpy, slushy, whatever, but is drinking.

SPEAKER_01

She's basically working at like a good girl's version of a 7-Eleven. Right.

SPEAKER_00

Like a quickie mar. Yeah. Then I'm like, is this a second job? Is this the new job? Did she quit the Lisa? I'm gonna call it the Lisa. Because of, but why would she have to quit the Lisa? But it it I spiraled for a hot second. I had to rewind this scene because I was spiraling, asking all these questions to myself. The customer, and he wants to return his hot dog. He was like, This hot dog tastes funny. She goes, Well, it's been rotating under a lamp for three days. He goes, I want my money back. She goes, You bought gas station meat, you make better decisions. She just they do work at a gas station because she said you buy gas station meat. Oh, yeah. Make better decisions, better choices, make better choices. And so they're pretty much talking. Annie and Beth were talking about Beth's mother-in-law. And Annie goes, Well, just kick her to the curb. She goes, But she's cleaning and doing laundry. No, it's like I mean, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think I think I would manage to do overtime at work to avoid her if she's gonna clean through laundry. That's fine. And then irony Dean's underwear. Who fucking does that? Who does that? Where do they do that? I know, I didn't know. First of all, he gives me the impression of wearing tidy whiteys. That's one. And two, I don't think they wrinkle. I've never seen wrinkles. I mean, I'm sure they do, but I don't know. But anyway, Lisa's face when I said that. It was ew.

SPEAKER_01

Just the thought of it.

SPEAKER_00

Like the character totally gives off that vibe.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You know who else gives that vibe off? Leslie gave off that vibe.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, for sure.

SPEAKER_00

Dingy tidy whiteys at that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, but he he I wouldn't even be surprised if Leslie Peterson's tidy whiteys were not even washed. Right, skin marks and well, I mean, unless Nana did it, but like but if Leslie had to do it, they're definitely like he's the kind of guy who turns them inside out.

SPEAKER_00

She turns inside out and turns it around backwards. Yeah, I can't. While they're at Annie's job, oh, and by the way, she got promotion because she's a manager there. So good job, Annie. Ruby calls. No, lies, backtrack, edit this.

SPEAKER_01

Well, just insert it. Ruby calls because her and Stan were doing Bill Roulette until he got a phone call. Yeah. Oh, I miss a whole section.

SPEAKER_00

So yes, Ruby and Stan were doing Bill Roulette. And let me tell you, I've never thought about writing a check. Well, I don't write checks, but writing really?

SPEAKER_01

I learned that trick on Roseanne, like moving on.

SPEAKER_00

And sending it to the wrong. I never thought about that. Does it work? I don't know. But did it work?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. Well, it always works on TV. I don't know about in real life. Interesting. Because okay. Okay, I have ripped a check. Like where the numbers are.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Oh, it's like as you're taking it out the book. No, no, at the bottom. Oh, that. Oh. And then send it because then it it it sometimes delays. It delays it. Nice. Interesting. Good job. Like broke is a skill. I'm gonna have to learn that skill. Because I forget that I'm poor. I really forget that I'm poor. While they're doing Bill Roulette, Stan gets a phone call and then is in a vaccine. And while Beth is speaking with Annie, she gets root, she gets Ruby's phone call.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so like when Stan gets the phone call, you just like you don't know what happened, but it's like what happened? But what happened? You know it's something serious, and then when Ruby calls Beth, again, you're like, Oh my god, what happened? Because you know it's something serious.

SPEAKER_00

But you kind of figure, but you know, if we're just watching it from last week and kind of figure out what it is, because the next scene, yeah, see the ladies in front of the memorial, and Annie has a good point. She goes, Why are there teddy bears? And Ruby goes, It's a memorial. She goes, Yeah, but he wasn't like a kid or something, right? And I was like, That is a fair question. That's a very fair question. Um, so when she takes her coffee, she kind of pours it out. She's like, she pours one off for her homie, and Ruby's like, that's not how this works. That's not how that same premise though, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Ruby's like, a man is dead, and Annie's like, she was trying, he was trying to frame Stan, but you know, Annie's making a lot of good points, but Annie's being realistic.

SPEAKER_00

Ruby is sad at the situation, yeah. And Beth is she's getting her spine again, and she goes, We're back in business. And how's that?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like she doesn't say anything for the whole scene that they're standing there. You're just like, what is she thinking? Is she okay? Is she not okay? Like, you just have no idea where she's going, and then it's just like, Well, back in business, like like nothing. Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_00

I'm like, I'm proud of you for that moment. We next see them in Beth's house, and she's bubble wrapping a grandfather clock, and they're talking about the details of what they're gonna do. Sign note. I completely didn't leave notes on that part, and I don't remember that scene. So Annie was talking about we could buy a yacht.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, how are they gonna wash there? They're fantasizing about how they're gonna wash the money.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you.

SPEAKER_01

You're welcome. I remember that.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you. And then Beth goes, Well, I think we need someone that's not like us, right?

SPEAKER_01

And Annie goes, someone like him. Because Annie is like, Well, we'll buy a yacht, and then Ruby is like, Well, what what are we gonna do with a yacht? And Annie's like, sell it for a fleet of jets. Ruby is just like, What like no, no? I think Ruby was questioning her friendship with this lady at that point, questioning her whole whole whole life, and they're like, Okay, so how would you wash the money? And Beth is trying to figure out, like, okay, well, what would he do?

SPEAKER_00

Well, we can't go to Costco, right? So, and that's when she's like, Well, we don't need us, and I like the fact about this whole episode, they kept referencing him, like as like in a mentor way, and they're very, you know, in awe of their dead, their dead mentor. Um trying to take some lessons learned from the lesson. They had some hard lessons with him, yeah. Beth more so than the other two. Oh, yeah. Dean is now working at the spa jacuzzi, whatever place. And he has a little touch base with his manager.

SPEAKER_01

And he was he was admiring her like a ward or something.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And she's like, Oh, it's all about relationships. You should come to the meeting, um, or whatever it is, with like the contractors and the meeting greed, and blah blah blah. And he was like, Oh, thank you, Dean. You are so dumb.

SPEAKER_00

And I find the irony is not lost on us, it's lost on him, but it's not lost on us. As our listeners who watch the episode with us see in later scenes, you're like, mm-hmm. And he's in the waiting room, well, it's obviously the waiting room, and there's a kid reading a magazine. And we're assuming she's seeing the marriage counselor, whatever. And she asks the kid, What are you here for? He goes, My parents are getting divorced. She goes, What does that have to do with you? And he just looks at her like, they're my parents. She was like, Meh, all right, whatever. Um, so when the therapist comes out, she just like, I'm gonna go in. It won't take long, I'll be back. And she goes on on her little Annie rampage saying, I said I'll do this, but it's not mean. They're crazy. She has issues, she's a controlling, and she goes on her little rampage about what's wrong with them. Nothing's wrong with me. And he pulls out, eventually, he pulls out like a pad and writes something on it. She goes, just like a therapist, to just write prescription to solve all problems. And he says, Well, I'm give you the name of a therapist because I don't think you want me. You want so and so, same last name, and he's upstairs. I deal with children. She's like, Oh, okay. Oops. My bad. Ruby and Stan looking for suits because he wants to go to the funeral of Agent Turner. Jimmy. I couldn't remember his name. I keep wanting to say Timmy Turner. I had to say Timmy Turner to remember his last name. So Agent Turner's funeral. And Ruby is a little aggravated because the salesperson's ignoring them. And she also doesn't understand why he wants to go to the funeral. So she's a little high, little her nerves are raw at this moment.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And she finally gets the guys, it's the salesperson's attention. He's like, Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't see you. And she goes, Well, therein lies the problem. She's like, you know what? Fuck it. We don't need this shit. And she makes them leave because of their see.

SPEAKER_01

This is and and this is when Annie should have taken a lesson from Ruby because remember, I was like, and in one of those previous episodes, when they were the salesman was judging Annie, and I was like, she should have left.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Ruby knows. Throughout this time, Beth has been trying to, well, she has been calling Ray. She called earlier. She's like, I heard, you know, so and so said you weren't at the practice. I hope everyone's okay, whatever. She's calling again, making sure that Ray's okay because Ray hasn't called her. She's not answering her phone calls. So she's a little concerned. Then Dean comes in and a little up in arms about the movers. He's like, Do you have cash on you? She's like, Yeah. She goes, I need more than that. She's like, Why? So he was like, I get I gotta tip these movers because he offended them. And he's like, They've been in jail and prison. And I think I offended them, so I gotta give them a big tip. And then the little light bulb goes off in Best Head, and she does what any money maker counterfeit making suburban mom does. She brings Make a mistake, but besides that, she brings the convicted mur the convicted felon who's moving furniture, lemonade. That's the obvious answer. Okay. Right? Because what you know, that's gonna end perfectly well, right? Yeah. That was the dumbest move ever. Like a random guy. I know that kind of pissed me off so much. The ladies are at the car shop and they're discussing what she did. And uh, dude comes and he renegotiates his cut to fifty percent. And then Beth is like, yeah. Fine. Yeah. What do you what am I gonna do about it? Even if they're your last resort, you never let your last resort know that they're your last resort. But because they know they can take advantage of you and punk you out. Because shh.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but not only that, they just met this guy.

SPEAKER_00

And why would you even tell why would you okay? One, say you have to plan with him to begin with is a problem. Then you bring him to your place where you work, that's supposed to be a safe. Sure, well, she already knows where he where he lives, so there's that, and then yeah, the whole thing was bad.

SPEAKER_01

But see, if this is what she wanted to do, okay, in my book, right? Let's just say, in my book, if you really think this is the guy that you need, right? Start him smaller. Like she was just legit handing everything over to him, and now she has zero power, so start small, give him a small task and see what happens. You know, like that guy does not know how much money she needs to wash. If he would have pulled that shit, then you know what I mean? And she would have known, like, okay, even if she had to lose it, she would have known better for next time. It's just me. Like, I just wouldn't have given him everything, I just wouldn't have given him all of that. I mean, she does kind of get him back later, but but still, like, no.

SPEAKER_00

So Beth comes home from um her little jaunt, and the family is all having dinner saying grace, and Beth is like, when did we start saying Grace? She's like, Dean goes, Oh, mom thought it would be nice. And did you notice that Judith is sitting at the head of the head of the table? She was like, Oh, I'll get you a chair and brings her a fucking ottoman to sit next to Dean. Bitch, but okay. Yeah, um, her son tells a really off-colored joke, kind of funny though. It was I enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_01

That whole scene was very uncomfortable.

SPEAKER_00

I was uncomfortable, and I was just watching it, and it's fake. So Beth tells him, you know, just go, go play video games, go do something, do your homework. That's what she said. Do your homework. And then Judith goes, not till after you eat, finish your dinner. And Beth just looks at her like, matter of fact, go play video games. We already know what the problem is. She knows better, and she's anyway. We know the problem is. I don't feel the need to discuss the dynamics between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in the daughter-in-law's house. But they later on have a little heart to heart, which is seems to be a pattern. Judith would be Judith and do the snigh things and then have a heart to heart with her later, like she did at their daughter's birthday party. So Judith shares that she had post-problem depression, but it wasn't called that back in the day. And then she went and she got a job and she felt like a whole person again. And she decided to go back to being, say, a home mom because she didn't want someone else raising a kid, which is fine. There's no wrong answers with that.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Well, she I think she was saying something like that. She felt like she couldn't have it all. And and I don't know, like by the end of that, I was kind of wondering if it wasn't her trying to be a jerk, but doing it on purpose so that Beth could see this is not what you want. I concur. But at the same time, it was like, Well, yeah, except that this kind of is what she wants, and you're telling her this isn't what she wants. So it was it's still a little like.

SPEAKER_00

She also said that her husband made whatever more than than what she did with her part-time job. So it's like, why work? Yeah, back then. Back then, right, you could have one because if Dean was doing if Dean was was the man his father was financially, this show would never have been in it. We wouldn't have this show. So she comes out very judgmental, and she probably is judgmental, but at the same time, she she doesn't mean to be a bitch per se. I feel like she's trying to give her some warnings, some helping hand. And I think on some level, she's I don't want to say envious, but maybe a little like, okay, maybe she can't do it. I could it, you know. So the girls are in the car, the van, underneath really like a really shady place to begin with, underneath like the highway, whatever, waiting for their clean money. And he's late, so Beth calls him. She's like, Hey, just wondering where you at, ETA. He's like bubbly and shit, too. Right? Wrong move 603 that she's done. He's like, Yeah, I've decided to um renegotiate and I'm just gonna keep all of it. Yeah, because 100% is a lot better than 50%. Change of plans. And they're going back, the girls are going back and forth, and she goes, We'll just find somebody else. Ruby's like, Who are we gonna find? And Ruby Annie's like, Well, if they fuck us over, we'll get somebody else. And if they fuck us up, we get somebody else. And then Beth was like, until the until everyone knows that we can be punked. Like, that's not an answer.

SPEAKER_01

And even though they're going to if if they wash the money, they're gonna be making money, but they're still losing money at this point, right?

SPEAKER_00

Then you see Beth being being who she is, and I think she needs to like lean into who she is, which is suburban mom, to she can't be real, that's not who she is, but you could definitely lean into the suburban mom role and use to your badge as she does now. She turns out she's at the mover's at the guy's job. My son had $500 for mowing the lawn or some shit, and then all of a sudden it was gone. And the guy's manager's like, We will fix it. He goes, and then they're cleaner, like, I didn't touch your money. She goes, she goes, Oh, I could sh what is she? She mentioned the parole officer. She makes her point really stick home. It's about time.

SPEAKER_01

Leading to what you're good at, even though it's kind of like you don't know him, you tried to do this shit, it didn't work out because you whatever, and now you want to go to his job and threaten him. I just feel like, oh, I don't know, Beth. If this comes to bite you in the ass, don't be surprised.

SPEAKER_00

I think she had the upper hand in this one. I think that was the move, that was a smart move. The her well, considering she had nothing else to do.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, if he bends over now, right? If he retaliates, not so much.

SPEAKER_00

You have Miss Suburban mom, and she goes to a parole officer with some bullshit, they were quick to like they'll they're like, they don't give a fuck. They'll throw him back in two seconds, right? And by the time he gets out, she'll worry about that problem if you cross the bridge.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but what happens if she she's not going to his parole officer? He doesn't know that though. It would make sure, which is why he might try to prevent her from going, is what my point is. Like, if he if I don't think that that's gonna happen because then we don't really have a show. But my point is that you don't know this guy, you're threatening freedom.

SPEAKER_00

Well, she's in this illegal position. Her job now is illegal, yeah. So you're gonna have to take risk. And putting a gun to someone's head is not her style, like Rio. I know, I'm just saying, like if this she's gonna take risk no matter what. Okay, so this is the least she had to pick a poison. I think this is the to show her hand. I mean, not to show her hand, to show us uh a position of strength, she had to fall into something in your in the legal in a legal entrepreneurship that she's in. And this was a smart move for her. Like, she's not selling coffee here, so all her moves are gonna be risky. Ruby and Stan are in the kitchen, and they're talking, doing Ruby and Stan stuff, and he got it. He went back and got his suit. And she's like, I don't know why you even went back there. She's like, Well, that's the only place that does layaway. And he makes it clear to her how it's a little bit tiring for her to always be pretty much on guard and looking for ways people slight her. He's like, I just want to go to a restaurant. He goes, Well, I don't want to sit. No, wait, no, he said, and I go to a restaurant and you don't like where we sit. He goes, Who wants to sit by the bathroom? They always put us by the bathroom. He goes, Maybe I just want to go and get a fucking suit. Like, but I I mean, I see both sides. I absolutely I have to say, nine times out of ten, no, eight out of ten times, the microgastrons are there. It's not, you're not imagining it, it's actually there. But maybe not always do I personally say something. Sometimes I'm like, I don't have the energy to deal with this shit, but sometimes you have to, depending. But she's not wrong because it's intention. I have to feel like when they do these things that she's noticing, they're doing it intentionally or subconsciously intentionally. It's not an oversight, it's intention, it's subconsciously intentional. Does that make sense? But I get him he's like, you don't have to fight every single fight either.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, living, I mean, living your life as a person who is constantly being the butt of the microaggression, I am sure it is exhausting. When time after time you experience that, I can also understand how you're expecting it, you're waiting for it. You know, and then I love when people are like, but that's not what happened. Yeah, but when you know, every other time that is what happened, you know what I mean? If every time the sky turned if this if it rained and the sky turns per or every time it thunders and lightnings, it rains. Every time you hear thunder and lightning, you're gonna think it rains. So it's a normal human response, it's conditioning. So yeah, I get I get her and I get him. And there's there is no right answer.

SPEAKER_00

There isn't. Because I get because sometimes you just want to enjoy your meal because that's them putting by the bathroom may be one percent of your experience, but the rest of the 99s is a you just want to enjoy with the good that you have, because if not, you really will be fighting 24-7.

SPEAKER_01

Right. But then also, I mean, if you experience that, and then one day you're sat by the bathroom, not because of who you are, but just because any person who walked in at that time would have been seated there, it's hard to give the benefit of the doubt.

SPEAKER_00

Especially if you're always being set by the bathroom. You're like, have I been set by bathroom? I don't think I have to, but I mean, I I have. But it but you know what? If there's nine out of ten times you go and you sat by the bathroom and there's no reason, you're like, okay. For example, I always well, I tip well because primarily because I understand their their pains and their roles, they like I get I tip well, but at the same time, I make sure I tip well because sometimes I wonder, do they look at me and say, Oh, she's not gonna tip?

SPEAKER_01

Well, I worked at a restaurant, I I wasn't a server, I was a host. And whenever anyone who would come in of color, you could see they nobody wanted them in their section because they just assumed that they were gonna be like um a shitty tipper or pain in the ass. And it's like, are you you like the person hasn't even been sat yet? I I saw it firsthand. And Krista, when she was waitressing, you know who the worst tipper was were? Oh, I'm sure. Not the not the middle, I'm sure, not the middle-aged black people, and not for nothing. I'm sorry, but if I am that black person who walked in and you're like fuck, they're sitting in my section. I'm already I I've I've caught that. Now you don't get a tip because you already assumed, and now I'm just making your prophecy come true. So you're welcome.

SPEAKER_00

So maybe next time, and I like to take it on a different flip. Hmm.

SPEAKER_01

And I would be that jerk who doesn't tip.

SPEAKER_00

I will absolutely tip or yeah, I go in to tip. Like, I'm my my thing is you're getting 20% off. I'm 20% off, you're getting a 20% tip regardless, as I'm walking in in my head. Even like I've never had bad service though, so I don't know what I would do. And sometimes I do more because it's always in the back of my head, and I kind of want them to feel stupid, like oh, they don't, they don't, but if they're already thinking on those lines, they don't, they don't, but either way, I'm you're the good kind. Um oh oh you're the right kind of black, but either way, there's no right answer. There's no right answer to that situation because if you do tip, they're not gonna take it as a lesson learned. And if you if you don't tip for good reason, they're like, oh, because I knew they weren't gonna tip anyway. So there's no right answer, you're not gonna change anyone's mind. So you have to do what's good for you. In this case, if you have to fight about the bathroom, fight about the bathroom, um, Ruby. Dean is with his boss leaving the vendor meeting, and she's put, I don't know if you noticed Lisa, but she's throwing, she's throwing out stuff. She sure is, and he has this look on his face where he's like, Yeah. Oh, ooh. It's like he's flattered and perplexed and uncomfortable all at the same time. And I was like, I wonder how those other women felt that you worked with.

SPEAKER_01

And I don't know, like, I was thinking about this, like, okay, Dean, are you gonna make the same mistake again? And and forget all the ins and outs, haha, of that relationship, you know, or are you gonna say, No, no, like I'm I'm married, or I, you know, this is wrong. And are you going to avert her advances? I don't know. I could see him going either way, like falling into the old pattern. Or learn his lesson. I yeah, I don't know, and only learn his lesson, not because he learned his lesson, but because right now it's that it's reversed, weird in-between. Um situation where they're not technically divorced or separated, but they're not together, so it's like if I do this, it'll definitely fuck up my chances of getting back with her. So I don't know if that might have anything to do with it.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah. Beth, speaking of their relationship, Beth finally gets in contact with Ray, and she sets up a meeting. She's like, Oh, I'm so glad to hear from you, and I want to give you your money, I'm gonna pay you back. And they set up a time to meet up. And she looks out her window, and there's a body sitting on the picnic bench where we are always sat. So she's walking out there and it's their cleaner. He just gets up, walks towards her, gives her the bag. She checks the bag and he walks off. It was a risk she had to take, and it paid off at this time. It paid off for now. Sadie's home and she's counseling her tips, and Ben comes home. They're talking about how the dinner was like complete bullshit. And he says, you know, why go to the therapist? Just talk to me, and I'll solve all your problems. I think Annie caught the same thing we caught. Like, my son should not be so comfortable being my therapist, and he doesn't think anything's wrong with it.

SPEAKER_01

Could you imagine telling your kid at 13 or 14 or whatever, and just telling them your problems? And I know that they mean well, but like they have no idea the depth of our problems. So, like, yeah, no.

SPEAKER_00

They really should no. I mean, as growing up, as your kids get older, they do have an idea sometimes of what their parents do for them. You know, they have an idea, but they shouldn't have to know exactly. Ruby, because of their honesty thing, tells Stan, like, what if I told you like that's not exactly over? Like, he's about her illegal activities. He's like, But you promised. She's like, Yeah, well, yeah, um. So Ruby is telling Stan about that. Beth pretty much tells her, comes home and tells her mother-in-law, thanks, but no thanks. You can go and get the fuck out. Everything's great. And the last scene, Beth is with, I'm sorry, Beth is sitting at the restaurant or the bar, and here comes her date. Rio. He goes, Not who you expected, is it? I was just like, it's who we expect it. So that is the end of season three, episode two, just the cards. Lisa, in the hot take. Not just cards, not just cards. What Lisa said.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, her face was good. Like, uh, what? And then that's another reason because the whole episode, she's trying to get in touch with Ray, and Ray is not taking her calls. It's always going to voicemail. And that's what I'm like, why is she not answering?

SPEAKER_00

Well, it was two way. Like, I knew once we saw in my head, once we saw what's his name, Rio come to the door, and he goes, He's like soccer, he's playing soccer now. He goes, How do you get into soccer? He goes, Oh, one of the moms. So you know that conversation led to the whole Beth thing.

SPEAKER_01

Well, and and that's what I was thinking, right? Because I was like, at first, I was like, Oh, he just I think he just kind of realized, but then again, either he already realized he realized at that point, and then maybe she filled him in the rest, or again, she already knew who that was, or whatever, and that was just like a cheeky way of saying saying it, right? You know, I don't, I don't know. I I don't know. I'm open to whatever either way. Yeah. What do you want to see next week? What do you think is gonna be? I don't I don't give a fuck.

SPEAKER_00

Wow, okay. Do you know? Wow, wow. Anytime I said that on Lost, you would look at me with daggers in my eyes.

SPEAKER_01

But Lost had like all these different unanswered questions that you'd be like, Oh, I hope that we get an answer to this, or I hope that whatever.

SPEAKER_00

There was time, it was so much bullshit. I'm like, you know what? I don't care, I just want to end this. The first three seasons, you're like, I'm like, I don't care, I don't care because I'm not gonna get the answer, so I don't care. Okay, fine. Oh, that's so funny. Any other thoughts, questions, comments, concerns? Speak to me, Lisa.

SPEAKER_01
