Hi, and welcome to this episode of Assassin's Sips. Today we are talking about Good Girls, Season Two, Episode 10. This Land is Your Land. I'm Lisa, and I am actually I'm just sipping on some passion tea uh lemonade because as you can hear, I am, I mean, I'm never all there, but like I'm really not all there now. So yeah, you know, like with the side of Hall's cough drops.
SPEAKER_02And I'm Agnes, and I'm just sipping on water, vitamin C, vitamin C, see?
SPEAKER_00What kind of vitamin is that? Yeah. And what?
SPEAKER_02And the proxin. Oh, my back is my body hurts.
SPEAKER_00I've been using them all week to get through work. Yeah. Yeah. So, okay. Good girls. Let's let's put our perky pants on and get through this shit.
SPEAKER_02It starts off with okay, not Beth at an NA meeting to deal with her addiction to drama and living that bad life. I thought that was kind of funny.
SPEAKER_00Actually, you didn't ask if I have a hot take.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_00I have a hot take.
SPEAKER_02What's your hot take?
SPEAKER_00That in the last episode, Dean was bitching about Beth meeting Rio at the park and all that. Like, you know, Emma said this and blah blah blah. And then I was thinking about it, and I was like, you know what? Like, he has some fucking nerve to bitch about her meeting Rio, even though the kid was there. They're outside, they're in a public place. Dean, you brought these two fucking dumb ass kids, would-be assassins, into your fucking home. Am I the only one who was like, wait a minute? What? Like, how dare you criticize, but then like your dumb idea, like her dumb idea, and then you said, wait, hold my beer for my dumb idea.
SPEAKER_02Well, let's be fair. His dumb idea started all this shit.
SPEAKER_01His dumb decision started all of this.
SPEAKER_02You know what I mean? So he has like he has double the audacity. He said all this emotion.
SPEAKER_00Like, you really want to bitch about like, oh, this where you meet him, and in front of the kid, and it's like, so you just showed them where you live, where your kids live? I don't know. Like also, I have a random question. You know, like the Snapple facts. I know that it's like for entertainment purposes only, but if it's wrong, can I sue them?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_00Nah, too bad. I could use a paper.
SPEAKER_02Because they have a disclaimer that X amount of percentage of all Snapple facts are false.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, maybe I should buy a lotto ticket. Yeah, not the whole lick your elbow one.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, that was it.
SPEAKER_02Lisa liked it. I don't know why I thought about that. Because you like licking elbows.
SPEAKER_00Okay, well, I usually only lick my own, and I only licked yours as a favor. So it's not that I like licking elbows, it's that I can.
SPEAKER_02I don't know how I feel about Beth being the ringleader and all the shenanigans. And as they're doing a montage of how they're all surviving, Beth is just stuck being Susie Homemaker. Ruby's husband is on his way to jail, and he can't afford gas. It's just less. I don't know. I find that it's slightly unfair. And if she was smarter at being a at being bad, they wouldn't be in this mess. But that's just my opinion. I don't know if it's not that she's well, she didn't take Rio up on his offer to get her money back. Let's start off with that. So she had a dumb idea. So that was dumb. That's true.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Because like I was gonna kind of say that it's not not that she's necessarily not smart enough. It's that I think that she's trying to mitigate her her surroundings, like because she has a family, because it's Dean and the kids, and she's she's trying to be two people at once instead of one person who does two jobs, if that makes sense.
SPEAKER_02And and understanding that you can't be if that's not an option, that's not a biobart, is stupid.
SPEAKER_00Right. What I think once, if she ever realizes that part, she's fine.
SPEAKER_02Then she'll be fine. But up to now, it's I feel like Ruby and Annie are having the worst the worst backlash of Beth's decisions right now. Poor Beth, she has to be Susie Homemaker. I mean, is she happy with it?
SPEAKER_00No, whatever, but still, and they try to give you a fake out, right? She puts the map down, she's like, Okay, you guys are gonna be here, and I'm gonna be here. You're like, oh, they're planning another heist, and it's like a bake sale. Also, yeah, watching her with those women, like as Mina, the fuck kind of name is that? Um, annoyed me, but yeah, also makes me realize, like, in the last episode when I was like, Oh, her fucking entitlement. She those bitches make her look like she is leading the protest against social injustice. So I was like, my god, like, all right, those bitches I do not want to hang out with.
SPEAKER_02Not at all.
SPEAKER_00Are the corn stalks too sexual? Who looks at corn and thinks sex? Am I missing something here? Who looks at a plate with corn on it and thinks, oh, I'm so horny now?
SPEAKER_02The purest people are always worried about what's sexual, and everyone else is just like, yeah, no, that's in your head.
SPEAKER_00No, it's that should tell you something. Right. I was just gonna say that, like, no, see, normal people, even people whose minds are constantly in the gutter, don't look at corn on plates and think sex. Now, if it was an eggplant, maybe, but like we've all used the emoji. I mean, I was like, oh, these bitches. Okay, anyway, sorry.
SPEAKER_02An example of Annie having hard times is her stealing bread from the bin of food that they're getting rid of.
SPEAKER_00Right? She stole two loaves of bread. She fucked on the lettuce. I mean, which is worse, which is worse.
SPEAKER_02I'd rather.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I'm partial to lettuce. I don't know if I want one that's been fucked on.
SPEAKER_02Stan is definitely oh, sorry.
SPEAKER_00No, I was gonna say I have to draw the lines, it's like the wheels on the bed, you know. You have to draw the line somewhere.
SPEAKER_02And if you want to know what that means, pop over to our bonus episodes and listen to this season that we're doing on maths. Shameless plug. Enter here.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Stan is at a good place, and I really don't blame him. Oh, back to the crazy moms. Beth is like, okay, we're gonna do this and this dessert, and they're like, but that has a walnut on it. And she goes, and guess what? Everything has gluten. They're like, ooh, you're so wild and crazy.
SPEAKER_00I know. Scandal, walnuts and gluten, such a fucking scandal.
SPEAKER_02And let me tell you later on this episode, I was gonna take both those bitches and bang their head against the brick wall.
SPEAKER_00Me too, but then I kind of wanted to include Beth in that banging.
SPEAKER_02Because that could have been eaten, sold, but the fact that it was just dismissed. Do you but listen? I can get the anger, you're just and that, and she doesn't want to even, she probably didn't want to do it to begin with, but dismissed the hours and hundreds of dollars worth of work. I just want to I hate them.
SPEAKER_00Also, I feel like maybe maybe if she had put on music and danced a little in her kitchen while she made those cookies, maybe they would have been eaten, you know. That's how come I make the best cupcakes because I'm over here baking and dancing. I'm just kidding. I watched her like ice, and I'm like, it is way too quiet. How do you work like that? Like, there's no music on. Where's your Bluetooth speaker? Where's the noise?
SPEAKER_02Where's what I'm working? Yeah, I mean background noise.
SPEAKER_00Like a documentary about murder, something, anything. It's just too quiet.
SPEAKER_02No, feel yeah, just to get that little feel you gotta get lost in that spark back in your life.
SPEAKER_00Right, you gotta you gotta let the feelings guide you, not the science of it. Okay, sorry. Why are you sorry? I don't know. I'm always sorry. Continue, please.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so you don't seem to need me bad.
SPEAKER_00I've also had a lot of medicine, so like actual medicine, not like fake medicine.
SPEAKER_02That is actual medicine. Don't just no, it is don't talk down about all your medicines. But speaking of screwing on the lettuce, Annie's with Josh. I remembered his name this week, and she asked him for where she asks if their insurance covers puberty blocking hormones. And he's like, Well, this is the fine fugal and fug. This is the Lisa, and you know, emphasis on the food on the fugal part.
SPEAKER_00I don't know, I feel like if it's Lisa, it's gotta be emphasis on the fine part, as I'm like, oh, I have a dream right here. You wish you could see me. I just want to lay down. Me too, bitch, me too.
SPEAKER_02And um, so she manages to negotiate extra hours here and there. And he's instantly turned off because they're talking about blood and shit.
SPEAKER_00And yeah, she's like, I'll clean the bathrooms, I'll mop the blood, and he's like, Yeah, okay, I'm done.
SPEAKER_02Stan's lawyer wants him to plead guilty. Um, because you know, court-appointed lawyers have a shitload of cases on their plate and don't have time to actually care about their clients, and then you know, and then all of them graduated top of their class.
SPEAKER_00Um, I'm sure it's like C-sections on a Friday, it's just easier.
SPEAKER_02Okay, that too.
SPEAKER_00Well, you know what I mean, right? Like it becomes less what's better for the client and more what's better for the provider to fact people.
SPEAKER_02Sarah is in her, she's truly rebelling against her parents.
SPEAKER_00I'm so not even mad at it, but like I get it.
SPEAKER_02No, I understand it on outside looking in, and you're like, I get what she's going through. I understand like this is really confusing for her. As the mother, I want to knock the fucking teeth out. I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Both can be true. Both can absolutely be true. So Sarah, not Sarah, what's her name? Annie and Ruby are at the infamous park bench. And they want to. She wants to put the business back in motion and they're kind of couple come up with these ideas. Annie suggests, you know, doesn't Sarah need to get her badge. She said, We're not using my daughter. She's like, Okay, fine. We'll find a traveling circus and shove it up an animal's ass.
SPEAKER_00Right, because that's what Ruby said. She's like, you can't put anything up my and then she's like, Well, what about an elephant's ass? And then when she's like, Well, what about the girl's guys? She's like, You're not putting anything up my daughter's ass. Like, I don't think Annie would ever even have thought of that, but okay.
SPEAKER_02Annie's a loose canon. Annie is she thinks of the craziest thing. And I love how Rio just showed up and said, Hey ladies, how are we gonna do this? He he already knows, like they're hurting for the reason they're got into this is because they're hurting for money. He's it was a matter of minutes before they try to get back into the groove of things. Now we see Beth starting her baking and stuff, and she's actually no, but she's talking to the girls and they're talking about a book because Beth is back in book club, like book club, book club. And they're asking, she's telling them about the book and she had an accident, and she's it's about her redefining who she is, the character of the book, which is kind of apropos for Beth. And Ruby goes, Well, do you actually see the blood? I don't did you actually see the accident? I don't do well with blood. Annie goes, Well, you wouldn't because it's a book. And they kind of you can tell they're like little iffy about re-instigating the pill pipeline. And they ask her, like, do you miss it? She's like, uh, of course she does. But like Annie says, they're doing her a favor because you don't take an alcoholic to a bar. I don't remember what part of this episode she says that, but she says it, and there we go. Ruby is putting Sarah to bed, and she's tell she's telling her, like, yeah, we're going to Canada for your badge, this nursing home, whatever. And Sarah's not having any of it. She's like, that makes as talk about her parents, her father being doing things illegal, she's lying. She's like, none of this makes sense. It makes as much sense as going to Canada to get my badge. And she's like, You want your dad to come in and read your book? Or like, come, or to your prayers with you. She said, No. She goes, Well, to your dad or the prayer. She said, To both.
SPEAKER_00I was like, Oh, I mean, usually the kid is not wrong, but her delivery is atrocious.
SPEAKER_02Yes. But usually they don't get that sassy to a little bit later. So she's a she's advanced for her age.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you know, but that's also part of being a kid is learning to navigate tough shit.
SPEAKER_02So did am I the only one that found the next scene a little just like a little too kitschy with Beth and the ladies shopping, Cloud9, and Bethany's that little banned from Cloud Nine? I thought she was banned from shopping or returning. I don't know. But just like they forgot about Dean and his cancer, I'm pretty sure the writers forgot about like if you could forget about the cancer thing, I'm sure it's easy to forget about her being banned.
SPEAKER_00That is true.
SPEAKER_02I just thought that she I thought she just couldn't shop there.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I right. It just seems kind of like okay. I wouldn't, I don't know. I guess I'd be embarrassed to show my face there. Like I get it, she's not the one shopping per se, technically, pulling the money out and making the purchase, but I don't know. Like I would just be so embarrassed.
SPEAKER_02Well, I know someone who was fired and they still come back to deal with car issues and these buyouts and stuff. I'm like, this is not the only Chevy dealership. You there's a shitload of Chevy dealerships, you can do that with your car. You don't have to go back to the same place that you have been fired and embarrassed at. Right. Um, I think that's insane. Yeah. But anyway, fuck that bitch. I don't get it. I don't get it. And I don't. It's insane. Oh, yeah. So back to Beth tried to get that little love and feeling again. She's still a chapstick.
SPEAKER_00I know. And I'm not gonna lie. Oh, go ahead. Sorry, sorry, sorry. No, go ahead. No, I was just gonna say like the whole thing was so like just like annoying, but I think it's just supposed to make you feel like her annoyance with the situation, and they're arguing over what color balloons and what color plates and what color this and that, and it's like it's so monotonous, like but trapstick talk, please.
SPEAKER_02That was it. I thought the episode I I listen to you, that makes sense. The scene had a purpose, but I was just like, okay, that could have been avoided. I if the scene wasn't in the episode, I would not have missed it.
SPEAKER_00But I think that that's kind of the catalyst for her stealing the chapstick because she just is so bored with the tedium that is corns are too sexual, and we should pick green balloons for the grass. Like, who thinks of this shit? Like, if you have a Thanksgiving theme, it's like, okay, well, yeah, you pick like reds and browns, yellows, like autumn colors, but other than that, like who gives a fuck their kids? You think the kids are gonna be like, ooh, the colors are green for grass or blue for sky? Oh my god, corn is like dicks. No, these kids don't give a fuck what is around them unless it's candy and cookies, and and then they care. Like, so yeah, I think it's just becoming like, I don't want to do this anymore. Like, this doesn't excite me like it used to, but the thrill of doing something illegal gave her the excitement that she was struggling to leave behind. I concur.
SPEAKER_02The pickle, the draw of pickles. Uh, Josh was dealing with the customer. He's like, I don't know why they're complaining. She got a free half a cigarette in there.
SPEAKER_00It was just like she got a free half a cigarette, but half the pickles were missing.
SPEAKER_02So, I mean, uh, you you know, you take some, you lose some, you know. Annie um asked Mr. Josh if she could have the day off. She needs something to do. And he's like, Yeah, sure. And he's just like, Yes, the game's afoot. But did you notice he almost says, I love you?
SPEAKER_00Well, she she because she did.
SPEAKER_02No, well, did she? I thought he was like, you know, I love, and then she goes, and then he goes, Some I don't know who it was that they said he loved.
SPEAKER_00But he did it, so he did it after her because she asked for the day off, and he's like, uh, I think he asked her why, and she's like an extracurricular, and so he's like, Oh, uh, model UN, and she's like something like that, and and then he makes a reference to Kofi Anon, and she's like, Did you just reference? And he he says, I forget what he says, and then she's like, I love you, or something, but and then she catches and plays it off, and then that's when he's like it's like he starts to say it, but I think he I think he's doing that purposefully to lighten because he sees her awkwardness because that he doesn't finish, he doesn't finish the thought. It's like I I don't know, yeah, like I love this, or I forgot what he says, but I I think that he just said it to keep the keep the conversation light and not let her spiral.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, uh, whatever he's doing. So he's the next thing you see, Josh at the FBI, and they're setting stuff up, and they're running around with chickens with their hair cut off. And you could maybe it's just me being romantic, but he seems a little like doubtful about his what he's doing. Cause he's think he's actually starting to like Annie.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, definitely. So and I have I have I have more notes on that, but yeah, great, great.
SPEAKER_02I mean, you wouldn't know that was a genuine great. That means that's less I have to talk.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02You want to do that, you want to do your notes now or at the end?
SPEAKER_00Later, because there's another scene that has to come first.
SPEAKER_02Got it. So the next thing you have Annie on the and Ruby on the bus with the girls going to Canada. And Annie, first of all, can we not did anyone not mention how well she can sing?
SPEAKER_00Holy shit. I know. I was like, I hate this fucking song, but her voice is absolutely beautiful.
SPEAKER_02I had a good time, I would have been in that bus. Us doing the round, like doing the round robin with the zonk, because that's who I am. I do that at work every so often just to fuck with my coworkers. They're like, I hate you. I'm like, I know.
SPEAKER_00I think this is like PS58, you know, training. Because how many times did we have to sync shit in a round?
SPEAKER_02Oh. All the time. Ruby is a nervous wreck. Um, so Sarah comes up to the bus to talk to Annie about something. I don't remember. And Annie is just like, yeah, I'm all into this. Like, I'm really into all of this stuff. And she goes, Really? She said, Yeah, I would have finished, but I got knocked up. I think that's what Sarah needed just to sit down. Annie does well with rebellious teens with her personality. Was that a finished sentence? I was giving myself a break because I couldn't be tired. And then I can't. And you're on the phone, so I was giving you a chance to like jump in if you wanted to.
SPEAKER_00Oh, sorry. Okay.
SPEAKER_02That was it. You see Beth baking 101 billion cookies, 200 and 3 billion cupcakes, desserts, pies. And let me tell you how she decorates the cupcakes. They're cute. Agnes would have batched her task. I would have done all the outside like tail feathers, then the middle rows of tail feathers, and then the inside. Like I would have done all of that instead of just switching the bags red, like you know, between each cupcake. So batching your task is a it's a more efficient way of working. Then that goes for all aspects of life. Batch your task, people. So Sarah is singing another singer. I feel like everyone in the show can sing, and I'm a little offended because I can't sing. Sarah is singing, This Land is your land. And I find that hysterical because it's about the United States of America and they're in Canada with the nursing home. And I think it's hysterical. But all the little old people are just like taking it in stride.
SPEAKER_00Well, while this is happening, there's the scenes are going back and forth. So you're seeing Ruby, Annie, and the troops. The troops, you know, uh-huh. It is a troop. That's what it says on the cooler. They're all up in Canada. Annie's outside pretending to be Beth to get the shipment. She puts it all in the cooler. But at the same time, you're seeing scenes from the FBI. And they're like, and it's uh what's his name, Josh?
SPEAKER_02Josh and Jimmy.
SPEAKER_00You're seeing him talk about okay, it's go time, you know, and and he agent turner's like, well, how do you want to handle this? And he's like, okay, so this is what happens, and the pills come in, and it's so he knows the whole thing.
SPEAKER_02And obviously, I was thinking about what you said the last episode. You're like, I hope she didn't tell him. Yeah, well, and I was like, Lisa's bubble has now been broken.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I I knew it could go either way. I was just really hoping that like it was a fake out and not, you know, which I will say is good because a lot of times when they leave it for like the fake out, you get the fake out, but then here and there they throw in the real. So it's kind of like, okay, so it's not always a fake out, but anyway, it's a semi-fake out, yeah. And so now here it is where he's like, okay, go, go, go. And and Agent Turner is like, you know, you okay? And he's like, Yeah, yeah, yeah, I just want to get it over with. Um you see that it's kind of almost like a pain in his face. And you're like, why is this so hard for him? Because he's definitely, even if he doesn't have like love feelings for her, he's I think he can definitely start to see who she is as a person and where her motivation is. Like, she didn't just wake up one day and say, Hey, I really want to be a shitty person and do shitty things, I want to care for my child. And and even though it is very much not the same as doing illegal shit and like running drugs across international borders, but like just the fact that she's a service, it's yeah, but I just mean like but then when you when you add in that she's like, listen, I'll I'll mop up the blood, I'll unclog the toilets, like whatever it takes to do this for my kid. Right. I think that's the motivation is not about me doing it is a yeah, right, and then when you're listening to the parts of the song, I don't remember like I really don't remember anything more than the first verse, but it was something like there was a sign and it was there for you and me, and like we were in the like we were in the right place or something like that. And I just felt like it's it's all it's all on purpose, right? What song they chose to sing, what part they chose to overlay it on. So I think that he he might be starting to have a little bit of second thought about his role in it and and what her motivation is in her role. So I don't know. It was just like, yeah, he's he's definitely thinking about her.
SPEAKER_02And the famous scene that made me go, the I wanted to rage. Um Beth is at the fall festival or whatever it is that they're doing. And yeah, some stupid bakes, bake event, whatever. And I think what she's thankful, her daughter goes, what she's thankful for, and her mom being able to work less and spend more time with her. And oh, so sweet. And then she asked the mom, she's like, What happened to all the stuff that I made? They're like, Well, we weren't comfortable, so we just went to Kroger's. I but we packed enough so you could take it home with you. Yeah. What did she suppose to do with all that shit? I would have beat those bitches where they stood, I would have beat them to their white meat right where they stood. And I get the anguish because I've been at that, I've been angry enough where I've destroyed something that not that made it a difference, but you know, like fuck all this shit.
SPEAKER_00I know, but it's just so root doesn't even begin to to cut it. I I don't root is an understatement.
SPEAKER_02It was disrespectful. It was disrespectful, yes. And but that's who they are.
SPEAKER_00That's at so some kid doesn't like walnuts, put them on the side. Oh, don't eat it. But that's what I mean, right? Like just put it to the side. Who can then your kid won't see it? Like, whatever. What's the big fucking deal? What's the big fucking deal, bitch? This is when she should have been like, suck my balls of Mr. Garrison. Because what the fuck? I did all that work with no music in my boring ass kitchen. She said no music, and then you're like, but we packaged it all up for you and replaced it with store-bought shit. Now, not that store-bought shit isn't good shit, but like, what? I could have been napping, I could have been fucking my drug dealer boyfriend, I could have been doing anything, I could have been going to Canada. Like, why was I in my boring kitchen?
SPEAKER_02Ruby and her sitting with her angst and rubbing her hands and just being a complete nervous Nelly. And I get it, you know. Um she's got a lot on the line. She has a lot, right? And her daughter's there. And then the lady, one of the seniors, gives her a compliment of raising Sarah. She's like, she's like, she came out that way. She's like, no, I've had all these kids and drugs. Like, no, they don't come out that way, you know. And obviously, that was a linchpin of what she does later. So they're on the bus and they're getting the usual inspection at the border. And Annie's playing it really cool and nice without being overboard. Like, she's doing a really good job. She even likes, hey, you want a water? And she opens it up and gives him his water. He said, Thanks, you guys have a good time. You know, have a good day. And as they're driving along, Annie looks so proud of herself. Like, I did it. I had an idea and it worked. We're getting like I did it. And I could, and then when Ruby just blurts out, I trashed it. Annie's, I felt sad for Annie. Because to be like the conservat fuck up, and then to get it right, and then have it just all for naught.
SPEAKER_00What's it called? Two things. One, don't worry, you'll get your badge back later. And two, you knew something was gonna happen because they're just showing the bus driving. Like on the interior of the bus, but you could see from the windows that the bus is moving and nobody's saying anything. And you're like, So you know it's gonna be an accident. Are they gonna get pulled over again? Like something is about to go down. We don't just, you know, we don't just put put the camera on people driving in a book. For no reason. You're right, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So because I don't want to, I I get see I know why she threw it away, but didn't they spend money on that? Like, so now they're like doubly fucked. Is that just me? Like, I think I put things so in my head, they're doubly fucked. I mean, they have their back and forth. And Annie goes, like, you know, if Beth came up with this, you'll be all in it, you'll be gung-ho for it. And I think that's part of it, is true. Because I don't I think if Beth was part of this particular idea, I'm not sure she would have thrown away the pills. She still might have because her daughter was involved, but Annie kind of wasn't wrong there. So then Annie, her sad little Annie, has to tell Sadie. She bossy bought she buys her boxers. I love that. And then she has to tell Sadie that she can't afford her hormones. And obviously, Sadie's disappointed. And side note, all of a sudden, her new name popped in my head, and I remembered it. So I keep the last couple episodes, I have to stop myself from referring to Sadie as her new name until we get to that part of this of the series. Okay. So if I up doop doop doop. Yeah, that's why it's funny.
SPEAKER_00It's hard to keep shit in in check, right? Yeah, I never said it wasn't.
SPEAKER_02I never never downplayed your your pain and suffering.
SPEAKER_00It was hard.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I just, you know, I see Sadie when when she is in the scenes with Sadie, I see Annie as just a person who is struggling to give her kid everything that the kid needs and wants. Be a good person, but also acknowledging that like you have your own flaws and life is not always easy, and you know, you don't you don't want your kid to struggle, but like but I also see sometimes that Annie doesn't have friends, and I think that sometimes while you know, while I love to see a close parental child relationship, I feel like sometimes it could do harm because your kid is not your friend.
SPEAKER_02It's a hard line to yeah, yeah, to and especially when they're at that age. Yeah, because they do sometimes they need they need both, they need the parental discipline, they also need to be able to talk to you at the same time. So it's a hard right, it's hard for everyone.
SPEAKER_00Doesn't mean that you can't have fun, doesn't mean that you can't share with each other, it doesn't you can't listen with an open ear, but it also means that like sometimes you have to be the adult without fear of the repercussions that come with being the adult. And I feel like sometimes Annie loses that part, yeah.
SPEAKER_02But that's also not in her genetic makeup. So that's true. Like she's doing the best she can with who she is, undoubtedly, and I I don't say that to, you know, as a way to say that other people are doing it in any other capacity.
SPEAKER_00I just I just say that as like sometimes it's hard to be the parent that your kid needs to be, and especially when you don't know any better, you know, and and most all of us are pretty much doing the best job that we can with our kids that we can, that we know how, you know. So I'm not sitting here like, oh, I am perfect, I am not, but you know, it's just an observation, just an observation on the outside looking in.
SPEAKER_02I love that, right? Um, and but to her point to to Annie's benefit, I can't think of the right word, the whole friendship thing allows her to be vulnerable with her daughter when it when it's right. Because you can see her daughter is not at well at the son. I'm sorry, her son is at is not feeling the best. And I think her being able to open up and say, hey, am I a mess? And be open with Sadie. And Sadie goes, you know, all my other friends at school, their parents up, they think their parents are perfect until you know they get older, they realize they're not. I already know them, I already know what's up. I'm not, you know, I won't I've heard screw me up. I'm good.
SPEAKER_00Right, right. And I think that that like I guess that that's kind of where where I'm going is that that kind of vulnerability is great because we don't have it all figured out. We don't have it all figured out. Our it's okay for our kids to know that sometimes we're just doing the best that we can every day to be the best person that we can be. And but then also like her in in like past episodes when she's just like, oh no, but everything is okay, and you're sad, and oh, I'm I'm that per like, first of all, it was like way too much information, wrong time to give it to her, and then instead of being a parent, you're like, Hey, let me open the trunk for you and you can pick out a toy. But she's learned, she learned from it, but right, but that's what I'm saying, right? So then when she set that boundary, when she finally realized this is this is not the way, she was like, No, I'm your parent and get in. And I can appreciate because that is what her kid needed. Her kid did not need the the toys, you know, the lies. The kid needed a parent.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. I think this this is the beginning of the part of the season that I'm like, okay, is it gonna get juicy now? Beth is sitting on the bench looking at the moms. Lisa, I don't know why I've never really paid attention before, but why does she always wear a blouse and a blazer to the fucking park? Meanwhile, all the other moms are wearing, I mean, they're they're not bumming it out like we would, but they have jeans and they're little vest and they're and they're little fur boots, like you know, that but she's wearing a blazer and a and a blouse that she's I think she's worn every time she goes to the park. Yeah, but yeah, I digress.
SPEAKER_00I think it's just her her fashion style.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it bugs me. Um, and then our favorite drug CEO pops up. He goes, I'm gonna try to reach you. She goes like I blocked you. He goes, Well, that's just too bad. I was trying to keep you in the loop.
SPEAKER_00He was like, That's cold.
SPEAKER_02And he and you could tell he gives no fucks about it. Um he's like, I just want to keep you in a loop of some things. He's like, I don't need to be in the loop because this you kind of do. And then you see her running into the the dealership and asking Dean, where are the books? She's like, in the office. He's like, no, the book club books, as you hear the sirens in the back. So up to this point, we think that the bus ride is what Josh and Jimmy have planned, right? Uh, and then you find out it's not, and this is when, as a viewer, you're like, wait, what?
SPEAKER_00Now, I also have one really dumb question. Okay. Have they not heard of cell phones? Why didn't she call Dean as soon as Rio told her? Why did she not call Dean and say, hey, I get it, right? Like phones can be tapped and things like that, but hey Dean, something you know, something's happened and I I have to come over there. I think there may be a discrepancy. Or I like I don't know, have a fucking code word for say pineapple.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. I don't think he would have gotten it. Because you see her running in and asking him where the books are. No, no, no, right, right.
SPEAKER_00And he was what I'm saying is like I feel like she should have done this as soon as they set shit up. Like, if I call you and I say, Hey, oh, set it up. I I uh you know, if if I call you and say, Hey, next week, let's have coffee with the Millers, you know, some shit's going down and you need to pustle ass. Like that's you know what I mean from the beginning, right?
SPEAKER_02But there goes that hubris that I won't get caught, nothing's gonna happen. I mean, see, you and I have safe words for recordings.
SPEAKER_00So, I mean, like, I feel like it's just something you do when you need to give someone else a signal, and it's like, but you don't wanna be.
SPEAKER_02You know what the funny thing is, it's funny you say that because I think healthy marriages have that safe word. Like, honey, I'm like, I won't get the fuck away from these people, let's go home. They have that that there's a look, there's a word, there's something, and I think since they don't have that, this might be me over digging and dwelling, but I think it's a testament to how broken the marriage is. Maybe, like, yeah, because you and I have a good marriage, absolutely, and like I said, this might be just me over doing stuff, but like any healthy relationship has that, and especially since you're doing because I I think if they didn't have a covert from which shit goes down illegally wrong, I think they should have had some kind of signal with going out with the Millers, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00There should have been something already in place, like it makes me okay, so I'm gonna age myself real quick, right? But like, do you remember in 90210 when like they lived in the beach house, you know, and Donna was being assaulted, and David came in, and she was like, um I forgot exactly what she said. She's like, Hi, Dave, we're fine. I'm just and he was like, Something is wrong. She never calls me Dave. Like he knew, he knew from one word, he knew and saved her. And like it was like, oh, yeah. And so it's it sticks, things like that stick, right? Especially when your safety is on the line, your livelihood, like your whole life can crumble in an instant and If and if one word or one phrase can can mitigate that damage, then bitch, you better know it. Like you better you better find it. You better use it. It's just you know like it's just such a small thing, but for big thing.
SPEAKER_02Um Jimmy finds Beth hiding the bathroom and she's panicking, she's trying to get rid of it. And he's like, okay, fine, we'll just break down the door. And apparently she has an epiphany, and she comes out and she's her little calm, cool, collected, spicy little. She's like, you know, we have deals for law enforcement for government employees. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you brought the whole crew. Okay.
SPEAKER_02All right, that's fine. So you see her with the ladies, and Annie gives her breath the butt wait a minute.
SPEAKER_00When when she was in there, she had the book club accounting book.
SPEAKER_02Well, I thought that was obvious.
SPEAKER_00Right, right. And so she's she's like ripping out pages and flushing them down the toilet, and that's not working. And then right. So then when she comes out though, she doesn't have the book.
SPEAKER_02Well, or at least we don't see the book. She has an epiphany about what she's gonna do with the book. When Annie gives her a drink, and Ruby goes, Where's mine? And Annie just looks at her like, you don't deserve a drink. You got and Ruby's like, You must have been so scared. And Beth was like, No, I was explaining.
SPEAKER_00Hold on a second, we didn't talk about their blow-up on the bus after that. Yeah, but I but I kind of well you think Annie Right, because I just Ruby, after Ruby admits that she tossed everything, Annie was so mad, and she was just like, Oh, but if it was Beth's idea, like Beth tells you to do anything and you'll do it. But when it's my idea, like you know, whatever. Um Ruby starts to talk about how basically Annie is a fuck up, like she's the constant fuck up, and Annie's like, Oh, I'm so sorry that like I can't be perfect, like Beth, and that you know, all that. And Ruby's like, Beth had to choose this because she didn't have a choice, like somebody always had to save you. So basically it was like just back and forth, right? Like how Annie's the fuck up, but like thankfully now Ruby will have somebody to blame because Annie's the fuck up, and Annie's a fuck up, and Annie's a fuck up, and then you get to this point and you're like, Oh yeah, Annie's a fuck up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, officially, officially.
SPEAKER_00Um then the question that as viewers we already know the answer to, but everyone has Annie at that point got up and said, You know what, Ruby, you do deserve a drink because I am a fuck up.
SPEAKER_02Because she asked all the obvious questions. How did they know while the dealership? Ruby was like, it wasn't me. Yeah, right away. Ruby was like, it wasn't me.
SPEAKER_00I didn't tell anybody.
SPEAKER_02Her and Shaggy wasn't me. And then, you know, obviously the camera pans in on Annie.
SPEAKER_00They were like, How did they know what to look for? Where to look? And they're like, Yeah, we didn't tell anybody. And Annie doesn't say shit. They just look, and she's just like, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. Like in her head. Her silent dialogue was fuck very loud. Fuck, fuck, fuck. You know, just on repeat.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, pretty much. I heard that. I heard that too. Going, I feel like when she was the next day at work and she's asking about Josh. I said, Oh, he didn't come in yesterday. I don't know if he's coming in today. And when she does see him, I feel like her ass were closed. Like there was a set of like, oh my god, am I going to be arrested? And I can't see you saw him at work. Yeah, because he walks in and it's like Josh walks in as she's at the register. Oh, oh, right, right, right. Okay. And he does that, you, me, and he does the whole like huggy, like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. And she's right.
SPEAKER_00Because I'm I'm over here thinking about uh Tyler and he's like, Well, something nasty is going around. I had conjunctivitis. You might know it as pink eye. Thanks for the fucking medical lesson, Tyler.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_00We all know what conjunctivitis is.
SPEAKER_02So Annie fucked up. She knows she's fucked up, and that she's trying, I think she's trying to figure out what the fuck do I do with this fuck up?
SPEAKER_00I feel like she's just gonna make it worse. Whatever she does, she's going to make it worse.
SPEAKER_02Um, so I feel like this problem's a little confusing because they have like part of it is like linear as far as the time. It's always kind of like a flashback-ish. Like, because the next time you see Josh in his suit with Jimmy at the dealership again, like after everything is said, they're still like looking for shit. And they're like, they can't find anything. And Jimmy's like, he goes to the bathroom and he's looking the garbage can.
SPEAKER_00Was Josh there? I don't think Josh was there when they were still in the dealership. Maybe he was. I don't know. I think he was, yeah, he was still there because he's like, he was like, I don't know. I know Jimmy went into the bathroom because you see you have bathroom.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, that's why I was just like, oh, this must have been like a slight prequel to him walking into work or something. Like there was something. Because I was there, so I was like, wait, what? Oh, okay. He's looking, he's looking in the mirror. And I anyway, and then in the mirror he sees like the drop ceiling tile a jaw rookie fucking mistake. Okay, so in my head, unless it was a red herring. I think it's a red herring. Do you want to know what I thought it was? Because mind you, I honestly truly do not remember any of this shit. Okay, I think it I think she had she moved it intentionally and she put it behind the mirror. Because the mirror wasn't flushing against the wall. It was not, right?
SPEAKER_00So I think that's because I'm like, for anyone who grew up in a house with dropped ceilings, you probably hid shit up there too. Rookie mistake if you don't make sure that number one, you never put anything too close to where the light is because you don't want a shadow. And number two, you always make sure that it drops back down into place. And not all of them um go up and down easily. So you always have to find the ones that move without scuffing. So, lesson to you all from a kid who knew how to hide shit. Okay, everything up there.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, so it face the black, you don't see like he it pans into it, you don't see what's going on, and it leaves you on to the next episode.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I hope that that was a red herring. If it was Annie, I might be like, oh fuck. If it's it's Beth or Ruby, I might give them a little grace because I think that they're just a little bit more cautious. Uh they tend to think a little bit more before they act. But I guess we shall find out because Annie disappointed me last episode. So let's see who disappoints me this episode. Lisa's stamp of disapproval.
SPEAKER_02So, what do you hope to see for next week's episode?
SPEAKER_00Oh, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. But let's let's end here because you're dying and I'm dying. And then we could just go watch the next episode.
SPEAKER_02Go to sleep. The next episode's gonna watch me.
SPEAKER_00I know. Well, if you have anything to text us about this episode, let us know. Also, if that was you that baked all those cookies, number one, what song or what would you have been listening to or watching while you did all that baking? And number two, when you came back with all that uneaten food, what would you have done with it? Text us and let us know.
SPEAKER_02I would have sold it. Well, I would have ate some and then I would have made it.
SPEAKER_00I definitely would have eaten it.
SPEAKER_02But it was a lot, it was a shitload.
SPEAKER_00I know. Uh I would have I would have been the favorite neighbor on the block. Uh, let me tell you. Okay, I would have given it away. I would, I would never have thrown it away. I hate throwing away food. I will stand on a corner and give it to anyone who wants it before I put it in a trash.
SPEAKER_02And the tupperware for you and you get a tupperware, and you get a tupperware, and you get a tupperware. I'd rather have a Tupperware of baked goods than a new car. That should tell you who I am.
SPEAKER_00Well, how about that? Well, you know, considering I already have one, so I don't need to when my kids were born, you know, like in the hospital, like force you to leave with formula, even if you say you don't want it. So I was like, all right, fine. And then I went to babies R Us and I stood outside babies R Us and handed it out to people. Oh, I think that's good. I was like, I don't want it. It's sealed. Like, I promise it's sealed. Like you can check for yourself. And like anybody who was going in to buy formula, I was like, here you go. You could have it. Save your money.
SPEAKER_02So the mob world is really, for the most part, like supportive of one another. I remember I was had a run and error, I had to get formula for one of the babies. I don't remember when. And I don't think I knew exactly what Krista was using for Angel. So it's it must have been Angel. So I'm going through and I'm trying to figure out which one she wants. And I'm grabbing it. I'm like, okay. And the lady goes, you know, I have a coupon for that exact brand. I'm like, are you sure? She's like, yeah. I said, you know what? Here, I have a coupon for this brand. Because I think the brand that had the coupon for didn't have the one that I needed. So we swapped coupons, and I was just like, I love this. Yeah. It was amazing. It was a beautiful moment.
SPEAKER_00You know, it's beautiful when we just help each other out. But well, you know me and my bleeding heart.
SPEAKER_02I make people's heart bleed. That's my toxic trait.
SPEAKER_00Sassinsips.com for all the stuff. Don't drink and drive, drink responsibly. Also, don't medicate and drive. Because that's bad too.
SPEAKER_01And until next time, I'm Lisa. And I'm Agnes. And we are out of here. See you later. Bye.
