The first one is in 1956. We see a young woman playing a record and applying lipstick in front of the mirror when her mother walks in angrily. They argue about her going out for the night. Her mother asks if she's going out with him and says that she does not approve. The young woman, Emily, says that she's in love with him. Emily runs out to meet him, but is hit by a car. She wakes up in the hospital as she's being rushed on a gurney through the hall. She tells the nurse and doctor that she's almost six months pregnant. She gives birth, and the nurse tells her it's a boy. They rush him away saying that he's too young to be held, despite Emily's pleas. Before being wheeled out, Emily asks the nurse to name him John. Later, Emily and her mother are standing over John, who's in an incubator. The nurse comes in and tells them that John is the youngest preemie to survive at the hospital. Emily's mother, Mrs. Locke, seems less than thrilled at this information. At the prospect of holding him for the first time, Emily becomes upset. She runs out of the room crying, saying she can't do it. Mrs. Locke then casually asks who she should speak to about adoption. Before getting an answer, she sees a man at the viewing window. The nurse asks if he's the father, but Mrs. Locke says she doesn't know who he is. The man is Richard Alpert. Also, the bitch is like trying to light up a cigarette. And I know that it's like the 50s, but my God.

I yeah, I just shake my head at that one. I'm like, okay, that's on brand. And so is Richard being the same age as he is 60 years later. And I'm like, okay, also on brand. No shocker there.

Next flashback is 1961. Five-year-old John is playing backgammon in a living room when his foster sister Melissa rudely knocks the pieces off the board. His foster mother, Florence, scolds her before telling John that there's a man there to see him and that he should be on his best behavior. Richard Albert works in the house and sits at the table across from him. He introduces himself as Richard and tells John that he runs a school for special children and has reason to believe that John is one of them. Richard asks if John minds if he shows him a couple of neat things. Richard notices a drawing on the wall of the room of a man lying on the ground while a mass of smoke hangs over him. Richard asks John if he drew the picture, and John nods his head. They go to another table and sit down. Richard tells John that he wants him to look at a few objects, think about them, and tell him which of them are his. The boy thinks Richard means to keep, but Alpert clarifies. Which of these which of these things belong to you already? He lays out on a table a baseball glove, a book entitled Book of Laws, a small container of Island Beach Sand. How do you know it's from an island? Anyway, how do you know it's not from like Coney Island? Um Brighton Beach. A compass, a comic book entitled Mystery Tales and a Knife. John immediately claims a container of the granules and inspects them, then claims the compass. He starts towards the book of laws, at which point Richard looks hopeful. Instead, he picks up the knife. Richard is disappointed and angry. He asks John if he's sure, and after he nods, Richard snatches the knife from his hand and takes the other items away. He puts these back into his bag and stands up quickly. Florence enters the room and asks how John did. Richard responds sternly that John is not quite ready for his school and walks out of the house. Florence scolds John, asking what he did wrong as he looks down object dejectedly. nineteen seventy two. Sixteen year old Locke, now a high school student, bangs on the door from the inside of a locker. A teacher opens the door and John finds everyone laughing at him when he gets out. The teacher suggests that he come to the nurse's office with him because his lip is bleeding. Soon after, the two sit in an office where John says that he doesn't want to talk about what happened. The teacher tells John that he got a call from Portland on behalf of Midalos Laboratories who work with chemistry and new technologies. When he mentions speaking with a doctor Alpert, John looks up. The teacher tells him that Midalos is looking for bright young minds and they want John to go to their summer camp. When John asks how they knew about him, the teacher suggests that they send a representative to a science fair where John had presented a display at Costa Mesa. John gets upset and tells the teacher that he is not a scientist, but the type of person who likes boxing and fishing and cars and sports. I think he said boxes wrong, but anyway. The teacher kindly tells him I know, it's like it's such a dad joke, tells him that even if he wants to be more like the popular boys at school, it's just not who he is. He says that John simply can't be a superhero, to which he responds, Don't tell me what I can't do. He hands back the pamphlet and walks out. two thousand Locke struggles to walk while undergoing physical therapy at a rehabilitative center. The trainer praises Locke's good work and tells him it's enough for the day, waving waving an orderly over to bring a wheelchair. The orderly helps Locke into the chair and pushes him towards the elevator, talking to him. It's Matthew Abaddon. He tells John that surviving an eight story fall was a miracle and suggests John take an Australian walkabout and learn who he truly is. Abaddon tells Locke that he's much more than an orderly and again urges him to go on the walkabout, saying purposefully that when they meet again, Locke would owe him one. On the Kahana, Kimi and his team arrive on the freighter. Said wakes Desmond and tells him the helicopter has returned. On deck, Kimi demands Said tell him the whereabouts of everyone on the island before noticing Captain Galt and asking who gave his name to Ben. Captain Galt takes Kimi to the brig where Michael is handcuffed to a pipe. Kimi kicks the legs out from the bunk so that it falls on Michael's leg, causing him to scream in pain. He asks Michael if he knows his name and when Kimi and when Michael indicates that he does, Kimi asks if it was Michael who told Ben his name. When Michael says yes, Kimi pulls out his gun, holds it to Michael's head, and despite Galt's protest, pulls the trigger. But of course the gun doesn't fire. He pulls it again and still nothing. Kimi checks the gun's magazine and sees that it's still loaded. The captain tells him that he mustn't kill Michael because Michael is the only one who can fix the engines since he's the one who sabotaged them in the first place.

Well, right, but I mean they don't know that, but yeah. So Kimi punches Michael in the face. Shortly after this, Kimi goes to Captain Galt and asks for the key. Galt refuses, but Kimi rips it from his neck and goes to a filing cabinet and opens a safe. Gault asks what he's getting, and Kimi responds by saying the secondary protocol. He says it's how they're going to find Ben, indicating that Charles Whidmore knew where Ben would be going, and as he reads a document, so does he. The protocol has the Dharma logo on the front page. Kimi pulls his gun threateningly, but asks the captain to fix his gun. Desmond notices that the mercenary team's wounds are not caused by gunshots and wonders what has happened. Said is sure they won't let it happen again. Captain Gault walks to Desmond and Said and tells Omar, who stands guard, that Kimi wants him in the armory. Omar says he isn't supposed to let them out of his sight, but Captain replies, I'll watch them. Omar leaves while grabbing his phone after hearing sets of beeps come over, which is the Morse code. The captain then tells Desmond and Said to hide in the pantry under the galley. Saeed asks if Michael is dead, and the captain answers no, but not through lack of trying. And that is exactly the reason that they have to hide. The doctor can be seen in the background. Saeed asks for the ship's zodiac wraps, saying that it's the only way to save their lives. Sorry. Said asks for the ship's zodiac wrap, saying the only way to save their lives is to get their people off the island and onto the boat. Michael is laying on the floor with a bloody lip. Frank helps him up asking why he didn't tell him that he was a survivor of flight eight fifteen, pointing out that he was one of the few people who would have actually believed him. Michael tells Frank it was because his boss had staged the wreckage, which Frank dismisses as a conspiracy theory. He begs Frank not to bring Kimi back to the island, saying he's going to kill everyone, everyone. As Michael and Frank leave the room, they notice Kimi at the end of the hole, wearing a heart rate monitor transmitter around his chest and having a device attached to his arm by Omar. Kimi notices them and Frank says he's taking Michael to fix the engines. Omar slams the door shut. Gold meets Saeed and Desmond at the ship's tender, but Desmond tells Saeed that after three years of being stranded, he will not set foot on the island again. Said departs alone on the Zodiac Raft, and Desmond remains hiding on the Kahana. That scene where you just see Said Saeed and the raft heading back to the boat, where it's just like a close-up of him, his hair is blowing and the music, and you're like, oh, he's about to fuck some people up.

I like a little action in my shows because I think that's another reason sometimes the show, I'm like, okay, I listen with half an ear and half an eye. Because I'm like, okay. If it's not mentally stimulating, it needs to be physically stimulating, and sometimes it's neither. So I'm like, uh-huh, uh-huh.

Later, Kimi and the mercenaries want to take the chopper back to the island. Omar tells Doc Ray that the Morse code message he received from the beach said that the doctor was dead with a throat cut, which confuses Ray. Frank refuses to take Kimi and his team to the island. Kimi responds by slitting the doctor's throat and throwing him overboard. Kimi asks Frank again, and he still refuses. A gunshot rings out and it's Galt, stating that he has fixed Kimi's gun. Galt tells Kimi to stand down or he'll shoot. Kimi then shows Galt the device on his arm, and when Galt turns his head to ask what the device is, Kimi shoots him dead. Desmond has been watching and now scurries away from his hiding spot. Kimi asks Frank again, and this time Frank concedes. As Kimi and his men prepare to board the copter, Frank hastily adjusts his satellite phone, wraps it in clothing, and sh and throws it in a canvas bag. On the island. At the beach, Jack is up and eating in the kitchen. Juliette scolds him for being out and walking around so soon after his surgery. Jack grins and says he's hungry. Juliet says lightheartedly that doctors are the worst patients. They hear a helicopter, and the entire camp runs to the shore to watch the freighter's chopper pass directly overhead. As they watch, a package is dropped from the chopper as it flies over. Jack runs over, opens the bundle, and finds a satellite phone. It appears to be tracking the helicopter. Jack states, I think they want us to follow them. In the jungle. In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeves tonight. Hurley, Locke, and Ben make camp in the jungle overnight after they realize that none of them know where to find the cabin. Locke wakes to the sound of an axe. He follows the sound and finds a man in a Dharma jumpsuit cutting down a tree. Locke asks him who he is, and he answers that his name is Horace and that he's building a getaway for his wife. And that he needs a break from the Dharma initiative.

The funniest part at the beginning of the scene was um they did like, I call it the lost version of who was on first. And they're like, I was following you, but how'd you follow me? I'm not in the front. Like I thought you knew where you were going. That was probably the best part of the host episode episode.

Seeing the confused look on John's face, Horace asks if he makes sense, to which Loc replies that he does not. Smiling, Horace turns to Locke bleeding from his nose, and replies that it's probably probably because he's been dead for 12 years. He tells John that he needs to find Horace in order to find Jacob. Strangely, Horace then finishes cutting down the exact same tree he just toppled over, which is in place again. Horace repeats several of his previous sentences and then begins to cut down the tree for a third time. The last thing he says to John is, Godspeed. John wakes, and Ben is awake and looking at him. Ben says, I used to have dreams before Locke orders camp to break. Locke leads Hurley to the mass grave of the Dharma initiative where Ben had left him for dead. Locke starts to search the bodies, and Hurley asks Ben about killing these people. Ben states that he didn't kill them and that it wasn't his decision. It was the decision of the other's leader. Hurley says that he thought Ben was the other's leader, but Ben responds, not always. Well, actually, I feel like it's more like Hurley looks at the pit and he's like, What happened? And Locke is like, he did, pointing at Ben.

Locke rummages through the bodies, reading the names on the jumpsuits until he finds the corpse of Horace Goodspeed. He opens the pocket on the jumpsuit and finds blueprints to a cabin and a map. Mmm, how nice. Locke offers Hurley a chance to return to the beach, though it would be night and alone. Instead, Hurley remains with them, and as he moves out of earshot, Ben commands Locke's ability to force Hurley's choice. He says, Oh, something like, Oh, he actually thought it was his idea. And Locke denies being manipulative, stating to Ben, I'm not you.

The Horace. I will never not hear the name Goodsby and not think of Nicolas Cage's character in the rock. Um, I don't know why. Goodspy will always be Nicolas Cage's character in the rock. I remember the scene with oh anything with Sean Connery. I'm watching it. Sean Connery's character says something along the lines of Goodspeed, Goodspeed. He's a little Scottish sexy brogue. It's a variation of Godspeed, and you're gonna need it, something like that. So I find it to be funny that the guy's name is Goodspeed, which is a no-nef, like based on this etymology of Godspeed. And I mean, if anyone needed God watching out for them, or those people from the DI that are no longer with us. I think it's a little ironic, a little 600 degrees of separation somewhere, somehow. Um in my head, it worked out, but verbalizing it, I'm like, yeah, no, it doesn't really work out.

Though Ben is doubtful of their ability to locate the cabin, Hurley finds it. Locke lights a lamp and enters alone, as neither Ben nor Hurley want to go in. Ben says that his time has passed and that Locke should go in. Inside, Locke sees the shadowy figure of Christian Shepherd seated in the corner, who introduces himself as Christian and says he can speak on behalf of Jacob. Locke tells Christian he is here because he was chosen. Locke notices there is another person in the cabin and sees Claire sitting in the corner. She says she's alright and she's with him, indicating Christian. Locke asks about Aaron, but Christian says he's not to he's not meant to be here. He tells Locke not to worry about Claire. And Christian says that the people from the freighter are returning and tells Locke to ask the one question that really matters. Locke asks how he can save the island, and Christian and Claire both smile in satisfaction. While Loc is in the cabin, Hurley and Ben are sitting outside. Hurley shares an Apollo bar with Ben, and then Locke comes out from the cabin, and Ben asks if he knows what they're supposed to do next. And Loc replies, he wants us to move the island. And with that, the episode ends. Now, can you let me in on your thoughts?

Why is his, I don't know, spirits of the universal bite, whatever is on the island. I don't know, maybe mass hallucinogen, whatever. Claire, she did. They were walking her last episode where they'll talk. She's like, she kept lynching her head a couple times. And I was like, mm-hmm. And I'm like, she did. And when she disappeared, like she did, she did. But I know I know I didn't say anything. I was like, no, because I'm gonna say look like a fool. And Lisa would be like, I gotcha.

She died. Okay, I don't know why her body left, but remember they all settled down and then they woke up and she was gone. And whatchamacallit was she did. I don't know how on the logistics, but she did at that point, yes. Okay, because yeah, I don't know how on the logistics. Maybe the rest of the little dead bodies came and got her and brought her. I don't know, but she did. And the way she said, I'm with him. I'm okay, I'm with him. That's the whole, and we know he's dead.

Like when someone reads off when they give off that point one, two, eight, whatever, it's gonna give them a different location. So I don't think the island's gonna physically move. In Locke's dream, Horace Goodspeed mentions that he's been dead for 12 years. If accurate, this would place the date of the purge on December 19th, 1992, and December 19th being Ben's birthday.

The second protocol Kimi grabs from the safe has the same Dharma symbol that Ben's Parker had in The Shape of Things to Come, which is the symbol of the orchid station. Horace repeatedly chopping down the tree, which continually reappears, as well as his repetition of his name and other phrases, are reminiscent of residual style hauntings in which memories of events play themselves over and over in a specific place. Which I think is exactly what happened to you by the church and the car crash, FYI.

So after doing further research, realize that not everything they miss, apparently, although they do post a lot of accidents and incidents that happen in this in the county. Apparently, they miss a lot. So it's quite possible they just missed it and then comment on it. I do too.

Okay. When Richard Alpert visits Young Locke, we can see pictures of birds on the living room wall. These appear to be the same birds that Walt saw in his book in the episode special. When Richard Alpert visits Young Locke, he points out the drawing showing black smoke and someone on the ground, which resembles the smoke monster.

When Locke walks into the cabin, Claire can be seen in the bottom left of the screen sitting in the shadows a couple of minutes before she's revealed. Okay, this one is a little bit it's not spoilery, but it's a little bit spoilery.

Okay. This is the first episode since DOC and the last episode of the series to contain only flashbacks from an 815 survivor's life before the plane crash. Which means that after this, there's no like before plane crashers are gonna have flashbacks, flashback episodes before the crash. Because they all die.

So a blooper is the single of every day by Buddy Hawley and the crickets was recorded in May of 1957 and was not released until September of 57, which is more than a year after Locke's birthday of May 30th, 1956. So it would have been impossible for Emily to have been playing it on the night of his birth. Buddy Hawley also famously died in a plane crash.

Right before Horace introduces himself for a second time, we see a close-up of John Locke, but his trademark scar is on the wrong eye.

Yeah, I didn't catch that either. Okay, some themes of the episode. When Emily rushes out of her house, it's raining when she gets, you know, when she gets hit by a car crossing the street. When Richard comes to test John when he's like five years old, it's also raining. When he's born, he's later dubbed as a miracle baby because he survived so many illnesses. And then when you do get some answers, it just leads to more questions. That's so unsatisfying.

Both Ben and Locke have taken, you know, have taken the role as leader from the other of the others.

When we see Richard Alpert and all the flashbacks, he still has that same bag that he still has on the island.

Yeah. The title of the episode refers back to the heightened sense of cabin fever some members on the on the Kahana have been getting, as well as to Jacob's cabin, cabin, and the hunt for it. Here's what I want to talk about. We get, we also get in the in John's flashbacks, we also get Matthew Abaddon. But as we know, he's he seems like he's under the employ of Charles Whidmore because we saw him with the freighter people. So it's like on one hand, Richard. I'm trying to word this like carefully.

Richard is connected to Locke. Abaddon is connected to Locke.

But who is Richard uh representing representing?

I mean, we saw Richard with the others. We saw him with, you know, at the beginning of right.

And he actually he's also the one who recruited recruited right for Ben.

So I'm thinking Whitmore is and Dharma is one of the same.

And then maybe when they killed off those people, is when they splintered away from like I think Dharma was originally Whitmore's project.

Okay. We see Richard trying to come and guide Locke, so to speak. You know, he's taken interest in him in his younger life up until about high school. We see, and then we see as an adult after his accident, we see Abaddon trying to guide him. Every time that Richard has kind of come for Locke, Locke makes the wrong choice. Like he he chooses against what Richard is looking for. However, we know that at some point he did choose on. Right. But I want you to think about, I want you to keep that in your mind about like this idea of Locke the choices that Locke makes.

He's always made the wrong choices.

Right. Like this his whole life, it's like he's special, he's special, he's special. But kind of every time we see him, he's like a loser. I mean, you know. And then finally he makes a choice to do the walkabout. He gets to the island, and all of a sudden he's like this, you know.

The man about town. He he's a leader. He's a little loose canon, and people think he's a little woo-hoo, but he's still, yeah. When they first came to the island, he can spear fish and hunt boar and all that other stuff. And you know, right. I really think the writers over the last two seasons, season four, they picked up again, but they kind of just forgot about him, I think. Like he had such a great character arc, and then it's just like it fizzled. Like he was in there, but he wasn't, he was just there. And I feel like I I need to be re-acquainted with him because I love Terry. You know, Terry's my boyfriend.

I mean, I could be the one, I can be the sister wife that just cooks and bakes.

So do you think it's like the same kind of thing? Like Locke can't die. Some people on the island have died. I mean, Locke Locke has had his legs been paralyzed, Locke has been shot. I mean, do you think it's something along those lines? Or is it just the island won't let you die?

I think honestly, I think the mind is just a power, it's just powerful. So if you're going through life, oh I'm not gonna die, I'll be fine. And I feel like certain things you do keep you from this. Um you make a left turn instead of a right turn. Is that divine intervention, or is that just a sixth sense that we just don't we're not picking up on? Because you may have heard something in the woods, you know, yeah, we're not going that way subconsciously.

Just there is this the whole underlying thing of fate versus free will.

I mean, although to be fair, his legs did start to work, so but I feel like I'm questioned. I have the question again: the ones that don't make it off the island, were they ever were they ever really alive to begin with?

Um, they're like, oh, six people survived three months, and I I just think a lot of the people are already dead.

I feel like he's I think that's exactly what it is. I think he's just the wizard of oz. They put a name to not legit, not literally, but like they just put it, like this put a name to my like to this idea, and people will respect a person they don't see, and they will listen and be in awe of said mysterious person. Meanwhile, back in the farm, it's little Wizard of Oz dude kicky it up. Um and I but in this sense, I think quote unquote Jacob is Whitmore. As far as like maybe initially, the initial Jacob was Whitmore somewhere, like just to keep his identity a secret, and that just and it's just morphed into something else once they splintered away from the Richmond mission.

No, no, I really think there's like I think that he's like part of the splinter, but I think the whole Jacob, like before he took over and part of those people's kids that were killed. Richard was like Jacob, you had to meet Jacob. Wasn't Jacob a name before?

Right. So I think Jacob was Whitmore before they splintered, and he gave Lear the others, and I think he just preparated he just perpetrated the whole Jacob man behind the mask kind of man behind the curtain idea. He just kept along with it. There was no Jacob.
