SPEAKER_02

Hi, and welcome to this episode of Sassin Sips, where every episode we will be discussing and dissecting an episode of Lost in Order. We are your hosts. I'm Lisa.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm Agnes.

SPEAKER_02

What are you drinking today, Agnes?

SPEAKER_00

My special coffee.

SPEAKER_02

You like that, don't you?

SPEAKER_00

I listen, I love my coffee, and since I have to be a little alcoholic. Ooh.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. You have to be an alcoholic hooker.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, you're the alcoholic hooker. I'm the I'm the whore. Okay, sorry, the whore. Yeah. Um, yeah, so I I mix the two loves of my life. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I have iced tea, and don't say it. And I have this little gem. It's a kettle one peach and orange blossom that I do in my iced tea, and it's fucking delicious. It is so good.

SPEAKER_00

That's love right there. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You brought me home a like a case of them. I'm this other wife. Hello. Well, maybe I'll maybe I'll slip some in your care package because I I got another one I'm I'm putting together right now. You are such a horrible person. I know. Well, today's episode is collision.

SPEAKER_00

Wham.

SPEAKER_02

Any thoughts before we dive in?

SPEAKER_00

No, I think all my thoughts are specific towards no specific scenes. So no general thoughts. I saw your look on your face. You're like, whoa, baby.

SPEAKER_02

The kids didn't leave me a lot of IC because they're savages. So I put Lisa. Yeah, so I put extra vodka in it to fill up.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, the things you must go through, the sacrifice you must make as a parent. So yeah. First of all, you're gonna say they didn't leave you the alcohol.

SPEAKER_02

No, we're not at that point yet. So we're gonna do flashbacks and then we'll get into the episode. The episode proper. Okay. In a flashback. Anna Lucia returns to work at the Los Angeles Police Department after taking a leave of absence because she was shot by a burglar on a call. She is assigned an office job but demands to get back into a patrol car. Her captain, who is also her mother, reluctantly allows it. On patrol, Anna Lucia responds to a domestic disturbance call. It proves to be too stressful as the domestic shouting match causes Anna Lucia to lose her calm and draw her gun. Her partner orders her to holster her weapon, calling her by her first name when she does not respond to Officer Cortez. I've watched a show, but somehow this episode seems so relative these days. Did you have that feeling when you watched absolutely? And I was like, it was like demand first, ask questions later. And it's like, and we'll we'll get more into it, but like seeing her in uniform pointing the gun at the dude with the freaking TV, like come on, like it was slightly triggering.

SPEAKER_00

It was it was I mean, yeah, I think the time the it's uh when was this 2004, 2005? Yeah, something something I mean it was way after Rodney King, but there was November 2005. Really? Mm-hmm. No, no, but okay, no, like Rodney King wasn't too. No, no, so no, no, no, it just had the time, what? No, it was so I mean it was way after Rodney King, and it was at the point where while that was still on people's minds, it wasn't the forefront, and I find it telling that the writer I I wonder if the writers, it was just something it was it did it happen absolutely. These things that were happening now absolutely never stopped happening, but they weren't so publicized, so especially with the LAPD. Um so I don't know if it was kind of just coincidental or is just something I'm I'm assuming the writers lived in in California, lived in Los Angeles, I'm assuming, but I'm still I feel like it's something that it wasn't, it was not that it was everyday, but something that was definitely part of their lives at the time. And it I mean, looking back, I'd be like, oh, there wasn't no issue, like there were issues, but nothing that was out there. But I'm still thinking it was something that they it was known. It was like a known secret, it was a known behavior. That's what I'm trying to get at. Yeah, it was behavior that wasn't as hidden as we like to think it was. No, especially who lived in LA, right? And these people lived in this, they lived in California, so there's something that they saw that maybe we didn't see the rest of the country.

SPEAKER_02

So well, we nowadays with social media, and everybody has a phone with a camera, so it's so much easier and quicker to see everything, versus then it's not that it didn't happen, it's that it wasn't being filmed. Like like has been said, you know, I don't know who said that, but I I know that that's been like a common theme these days that it's been happening, it's just not being filmed.

SPEAKER_00

Like Rodney King, we wouldn't have known about Rodney King if there wasn't the riots and the well, but somebody filmed it, right? Something else, something else was happening, but then that's what I'm saying.

SPEAKER_02

Like even back then it was filmed caught on video, and which was the catalyst that caused it, right?

SPEAKER_00

And it wouldn't have been like you know the news it was the news.

SPEAKER_02

We were in uh I want to say we were in junior high school when that happened, so that was mid-90s.

SPEAKER_00

But there was something else going on that the news crew, the helicopter that the news helicopter was already in the area, and that's how they caught it. You know, it wasn't someone filming, it was from the helicopter, it wasn't, you know what I mean. It was the news crew, so I feel like there was something else happening. No, no, I just mean that it was caught on video. No, no, but if something else wasn't happening, it still wouldn't. That's I think that was the purpose of my thought logic, and I just can't remember what was happening. If they didn't catch it, we never wouldn't know about Rodney King. I'm just I'm piggybacking off of yours, but I ran off on a tangent.

SPEAKER_02

Like we still would have never heard of Rodney King if Right, because in the 90s you didn't have your cell phone, your iPhone in your pocket with your camera on it, you know, it just wasn't, or your Android, or you know, whatever. But you didn't have that, you didn't have that option off topic a little bit.

SPEAKER_00

What is it with the LAPD police uniform? Looking tight as hell and they're looking scrumptious. I'm just saying.

SPEAKER_02

Like okay, I think we should move on. You just think about that while I read. Your face. Um returning to headquarters, Anna Lucia and her partner begin a discussion about her gun incident. It is cut short when Anna Lucia finds out the suspect who shot her has been caught. The suspect's name is Jason McCormick, and along with evidence from the crime scene and his confession, the only thing left is for Anna Lucia to identify him. She takes a look at the suspect and says it's not him. Despite objections from her mother, Anna Lucia stands by her claim and Jason is released. Later, Anna Lucia sits in a bar having followed Jason, waiting for him until the end of the night. She stalks him to the parking lot where they are alone. She draws his attention by shouting his name, and upon being asked, I know you, she draws her gun and makes a simple statement. I was pregnant before shooting him three times at far range and three more times at point blank range.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so flashback of Anna Lucia. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Although we didn't even know the pregnant part until the technically the episode.

SPEAKER_00

So told you she was in law enforcement. So I was like, I need brownie points. Um every time I get something right, you don't harass me about what percentage I'm at. So, okay, so the you we talked, well, it was mentioned about her mother's captain. Um this is a little controversial, but I like the fact that Anna Lucia and her mother are a they're light, you could tell, by the rest of the staff, and respected by the rest of the staff. And I mean and I mean like the Especially her mother. Right, so because one, they're female, two, they're Latinas, and the the mother's in a position of in a position of power. So if they were taping this show today, I find TV and movie would have made it a contentious situation between them and the rest of the police squad. And I like the fact that you could tell that there was respect and the like and the that there was, and I don't think that would have happened that they would have written it that way today. And that's so telling. Which is mother-daughter contention, but they would have thrown in some uh and you there would have been something with the fact that either they're both women or they're Hispanic. I'm sorry, I can't say Hispanic, can I?

SPEAKER_02

I mean you could, it's not exactly accurate, but Latinas.

SPEAKER_00

Um I remember back in high school, there was a the debate about okay.

SPEAKER_02

Technically Hispanic means being from Spain, but we know what it means.

SPEAKER_00

Um I just don't want to offend anybody in it even inadvertently. So I kind of I find that I don't know what was I don't know, I find that refreshing. I like seeing it, I don't care if it was 2005, 2025. I like seeing that.

SPEAKER_02

But will there still be people or this planet in 2025?

SPEAKER_00

Listen, I was having a conversation with a friend just yesterday. I'm like, hit the I like I'm waiting for the asteroid, and I'm gonna be chilly high as fuck. I'm gonna try all the drugs.

SPEAKER_02

Can we control all delete like this year? Reboot this shit. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

Alright. And um, I think that was it on the my flashback.

SPEAKER_02

Alright, on the island, realizing it was Anna Lucia who shot Shannon, Said quickly pulls his gun on her. Echo stops him, and after a quick and muddy fight, Said is not unconscious. Anna Lucia orders Echo to tie him up using the vines from Sawyer's stretcher. Libby and Michael object, saying Sawyer needs a doctor or he'll die, and Echo refuses. Anna Lucia then forces Libby at gunpoint to do so. I like that Echo stood up to her. Yeah. And she, and even with the gun, she realized that she like we're gonna we're gonna go on to see that that gun is the only recourse she has to get people to do what they what she wants in that situation, and most of them are willing to not risk it at first, you know what I mean? In the sense of like, they took divines off of Sawyer's stretcher to do it, but Echo is like, no, no, and then he picks up Sawyer and he's like, I'm gonna bring him back to camp.

SPEAKER_00

And that goes to show that you know in some I'm um um interperson relationships between the boss and the boss's second. It's always a question, maybe a joke or underlying question, like who who's really the boss? Like who's really the you know, there's a joke, and if it's a good relationship, then it's a joke. If it's not, you know. But this is the this is a great situation, a great example of she's the quote unquote leader. Because she I'm at I really do think she means well, but she's definitely going through post-traumatic stress. I think it has a lot to do with her reaction to things.

SPEAKER_02

It's like that small dick energy. I'm sorry. It's like she reacts first and then and now she's just trying to like, and this is the part that I was talking about. It's like she has no plan. Instead of just like they told her, listen, it was an accident. Like, I think that they'll understand. No, no, no, no, no. She doesn't want to hear anything, she's just set and determined to do what she wants to do. She'd rather live alone in the woods, and and even still, like when she tells Michael to go get her the stuff, it's like she'd still she's still ordering him and threatening him in order to get him to do what she wants so that she could run away and cower instead of facing up to her mistake. And I feel like that's still so relevant, is that people, you know, with everything going on, people would just rather make excuses and and write it off if they can, instead of owning up and being held responsible and just trying to make amends, even if it was actually and truly a mistake, and I'm not taking sides, you know what I mean. Um, I I listen, I I'm well aware of what's going on, you know, and and I have my opinions, and I'm not gonna sit here and be like Blue Lives Matter because that's a choice, but at the same time, I think that it's so crazy how 15 years ago you see her in such a similar position that you see so many people in now, and she's still acting the same way, except that she doesn't have her cop buddies to defend her, she's alone. Because if that same thing I'm sure has happened, where an actual cop made a similar mistake, and instead of just saying, listen, like fuck, like I got scared and I overreacted and whatever, no, you you got all your buddies to come and be like, no, no, no, no, no. The kid had a gun, the kid, and then come to find out it like you know what I mean? Like the old man with with when they're like, oh no, he fell, and and everybody defended him until the video came out, and the poor old man is like has brain damage now because a fucking cop pushed him down and then lied about it and didn't let anybody help him. All because of what? Because you couldn't admit that you made a fucking mistake and helped that guy. I'm sorry, I'm getting angry.

SPEAKER_00

But like I'm feeling you.

SPEAKER_02

And like in and and watching this scene, it's like that's all that I could see is how many times a person who is supposed to be trained and serve and protect, and maybe you did just make a mistake. And look, the island is not real, but if you're there and there's whispers and you're scared, and having all the traumatic events that you've had up until that point, and you made a mistake, but then you don't help yourself, you just keep going, you just make it worse, and now you're alienating everybody, all because you can't say, Fuck, I am sorry. Oh my god, I made a mistake. Like, how can I fix this? How can I help? What can I do to try to make it better? Instead of just trying to cover your own ass and then make it worse, you know what I mean? Like, you're a cop, you know CPR. You could have tried to give her CPR. I mean, I don't know if it would have helped, but instead attempt, right? But instead, you thought, oh no, tie up Saeed because he's gonna come after me. That's your thought. Not like shit, I can help her, or let's come on, let's get back to the camp. Some this doctor, let's go find him. No, none of that. None of that. Not even like, okay, um, you know, Michael, you know where your camp is. Go get your doctor. No, Michael, I'm gonna point the gun at your face. Don't do anything, don't run away. Libby, if they run, you let me know. Like, that's a hostage situation.

SPEAKER_00

Her reaction, okay, so this is me playing devil's advocate, because you know, you see, it gets to you get to play this part. So I get to play this part. So, okay, so the scene where she's explaining to Said what happened, like how she right, how she got shot. I know we're skipping a lot because we didn't get to that part in the how she got shot. If you remember in the story, she gave the person the benefit of the doubt, and he's just shot her. I I know. So I wonder how much is that her saying I was stupid for taking my time. No, I I was stupid. I didn't react appropriately. I didn't take I didn't react the way I should have reacted. I was stupid for giving the guy the benefit of the doubt. I was stu that that's never gonna happen to me again. Right. And that's probably her mentality. So I wonder what kind of cop was she before she got shot. Um, also, her, I hate as a mother, I hate to say this, but I don't want to blame the mother, but her mother knew she wasn't ready.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

And she still put it on the street. She did try to mitigate it by putting her in a safe in like in the in a safe area. And I get her trying to like, okay, listen, I get to shut her up, but I'm gonna put her in a safe area where she won't see any issues. And I get it. But a lot of so I think I was saying before, sh she is still suffering from PTSD. Shot four times while you're pregnant. I couldn't even fucking imagine that. To be fair though, I would have said I didn't know him either. I would have taken up, I'm saying I think if she wasn't pregnant, I don't think she would have went that way. I agree. Because her first the only thing she said to him was, I was pregnant. And that was and that was I feel bringing it back to today, how George Floyd calling out to his mother and I think e mothers of children of people who are night who don't have children of their own felt that. They were like, oh hell no. I think a lot of people stop banging. Oh, sorry. Uh-huh. Keep going. I know it happens. I felt you have to, I think that took it to a whole nother level and her PTSD. And I'm not saying that her reaction was normal. I'm not saying that her reaction is correct because she had the better 150%. But now curious, do we get to see Anna before she got shot?

SPEAKER_02

Don't tell me not going to that.

SPEAKER_00

You're not going to.

SPEAKER_02

But you you can you can see that her being pregnant and he shot her and she lost the baby, and that was her losing someone she loved, which she wanted revenge, which is why she automatically assumed that Saeed was gonna have the same reaction as her and go after her because Anna Lucia killed someone that Said loved.

SPEAKER_00

She actually lost two people, because obviously the guy that she was with, yeah, you know, so so she that was the the girl went, she had a hard time. Once again, I'm not excusing it, but kind of like hey, and if Said, if Saeed wanted to shoot her, he would have pulled the gun out and shot her right away.

SPEAKER_02

Like, I think that I to me, I think that he was shocked and angry, and that was his reaction. He is a soldier, so just the same way it was her reaction to pull out her weapon on the guy with the TV. I mean, but that was his reaction. He may not have used the gun, maybe he would have. But also, she has a weapon and she just used her weapon. I feel like he is more justified because what if she shot him next? Absolutely. I concur. So, all right, tangent over.

SPEAKER_00

It was a relevant tangent, though. Okay, most of that tangents aren't relevant at all, so we're making strides.

SPEAKER_02

Once Saeed is tied up, Echo carries Sawyer away to find the other survivors. Michael decides to give Said water against Anna Lucia's orders. And then he's like, Well, what are you gonna do? Shoot me? Like, I never had so much respect for Michael. Seriously. He's like, so shoot me. And Saeed asks him about Anna Lucia and Walt. And Michael explains that she's a survivor from the tail section, just as they all are, and what happened to Walt on the raft. Said reacts strongly and angrily to the news about Walt, remembering that he did not believe Shannon. I think that now his anger is turning to guilt. Yeah. The rest of the group confronts Anna Lucia, asking about her plan. She makes a deal with Michael for at least half of the camp's ammo, a big pack with blankets and clothes, jeans and socks, so that she can go off on her own. She is convinced that Said and the other survivors will not stop until they have avenged Shannon's death. Dude, they're not you. Sorry. I have a clause.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think she thought that she was gonna that was gonna happen. Like like honestly, I don't I think she's put herself in a situation to to have people take their revenge out on her. She put herself like when she asked for these things, knowing that he's going to the camp full of their people, I don't think she honestly thought that he was gonna that she was gonna get on her path. I think she set herself up for for the mob. Does that make sense? I think I think Okay I I didn't consider that, but it I mean, it could be. I think she's really f screwed up in the head. And I think sh killing Shannon and mind you, I don't want to get you upset. I'm speaking specifically about this character on Lost. No, you don't why would you upset me? No, because I don't want to uh it's not as a not upset you intentionally, but like we're not talking about what's happening now. We're talking about Anna Lucino. Like I don't think like the the the scene from two shows ago when she shot her, you saw the pain in her face, like the emotions going through her face. She she reacted too soon, like and she know and I think she realized it realized it. But I think she wants to take it out on her and I think that was her path.

SPEAKER_02

So it's like when like when Sawyer wanted to be um tortured, tortured, yes, and I think like I don't think she really thought maybe you could be right.

SPEAKER_00

That's just that thought just crossed my mind.

SPEAKER_02

But I don't think I don't think that she sent Michael there with the intention of like I think she really thought that if he came back with that stuff that she could dip out.

SPEAKER_00

I think if it can't if it happened that way, it'll be great.

SPEAKER_02

Because I don't think that at that point she was thinking straight. You know, I I don't I think that her thinking was flawed.

SPEAKER_00

I think it was kind of both.

SPEAKER_02

She was in like flight mode, but I I I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Or maybe as she's talking, as she's sitting there talking to him and she's calmed down a little bit, she realized, yeah, this is it. It's up. Like, I think the reality, so she's like, fuck it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, definitely. Eventually, but I think that at that point, yeah, that's just my thought, you know. That makes sense too.

SPEAKER_00

We must ask the writers what their intentions were.

SPEAKER_02

We'll get them on the phone after this call. At the beach camp, Jack is getting water, and Rose approaches him saying that she's pleased he isn't in the hatch. When suddenly a golf ball falls into the water.

SPEAKER_01

That was funny.

SPEAKER_02

Jack finds Charlie, Kate, and Hurley playing golf. Jack challenges Kate to a game on the golf course. It's funny because Kate's like, You think you could do better? He's like, Kate, I'm a doctor.

SPEAKER_00

I thought that was really funny. But as every time he does something that I'm like, okay, I like him. He does something, I'm like, oh god.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we'll get there. Yeah. I felt it and I was like, oh my god, I could already hear you. Um, and Kate and Jack, oh my god, the tension between them, like Jack was getting all the feels from Kate right there. He was loving it. He was loving it.

SPEAKER_01

That's flirting, dude. You're stepping game up, dude. I'm just joking, I'm just being silly.

SPEAKER_02

But I think but I think that that's the thing is that he's not, you know, like in comparison to Sawyer, who you could you could feel it almost, like you're just watching it on TV, but you could feel what he's putting out there, and you could see it in his in his reaction and his words, and and there's gonna be a few times where Sawyer said says things and they're like straight up sexual innuendos. And Jack is not like that. Jack is like the quote unquote good guy who you know is you know how I feel about the good guy.

SPEAKER_00

I think it's bullshit. Yeah, I know I feel funny because I'm not gonna go there. But he waits for I think he I feel like he feels like it's I don't want to. This is a lack of a better term. I can't get the writing right, but I feel like he thinks he's too good for somebody. They need to come to him, they gotta work for him in a way, and I and it comes off as I'm being respectful. No, dude, you just don't want to work for it.

SPEAKER_02

I think I don't I don't think that. I think that he is too insecure. Okay, all right, to be fair, okay. That's how that's my interpretation. I feel like especially when you compare him against Sawyer, Sawyer is cocky as fuck. And and you and that's why he's yeah, well, I mean, Jack is not ugly. I mean, not that he was ugly, but but the thing is that like Jack could possibly be a catch. I mean, you know, for the right woman, sure, but he doesn't exude that confidence that Sawyer does because and and even though Sawyer could be not a catch, like he's a fucking ex-con, you know, whatever. Like he's but but on paper, Jack should be the one who should be the douchier one, you know what I mean? Like, come on, you know, come on, you want a piece of this? Like, and he's not, and I I think that it's it stems from his father and insecurity, and who knows what happened with Sarah, like that could be a factor, but but he's he's never lived up to his father in his eyes, I think.

SPEAKER_00

And I think that that I think he goes before Sarah, because even how he got her, he was still kind of reserved in that. So I think his issues mostly with his father. I concur. Well, we're good, Lisa. Good point. Hi.

SPEAKER_02

Um, okay, so Jack challenges Kate to a game of golf on the golf course, and while they play, Jack and Kate encounter Echo carrying Sawyer. When Kate sees him, her face was like, what the fuck?

SPEAKER_00

Big old black dude. And I kinda like I when I thought that I was kind of checking to myself of like because Echo is an imposing dude, like Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That quiet, like gentle giant, but like he's a big guy, and here he is with Sawyer on his neck.

SPEAKER_00

Like And to be fair, if the character was Caucasian, but still big and a if it's the same character, he's still with that big white dude. Like, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_02

So it's just you know, he's he's the characters imposing and racism, so you know he's black, so that makes him scarier.

SPEAKER_00

Right, you know, as a black chick, I I understand that. I kind of throw it out there just in case it's so often so people don't get don't get it.

SPEAKER_02

I'm I'm being sarcastic because that's what this country was fucking built on. Lisa is I'm about to get so hated right now. I don't care.

SPEAKER_00

No, but like I I just find it like this season, I feel like it's it's gonna be a trigger for you. Like if we're watching season one right now, you it like I think this particular season at this particular time in our lives.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, okay, I see what you're saying.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I mean? It's a it's a triggering season. And I you know what to be, I don't I don't want to think like I'm just don't care. I'm just at this point today, at this moment, I'm just so tired of being angry and sad and despondent. I just like I had every so often I would take a mental health day and just like you know what I can't I can't do the fight right this moment. But but I'll do it tomorrow.

SPEAKER_02

You know that yeah. What else infuriates me and you and I have had this conversation is that I get I get what you're gonna say. I get it. But then but then what really fucking pisses me off aside from what's going on is when you have people who are like so fucking ignorant and clueless that instead of just saying help me understand why this is happening, you know. Can somebody explain? Like, I don't I don't think I agree with this, but could you under you help me understand why this is happening in in instead of just saying, oh, look at these fucking racist assholes doing this? And it's like, do you understand how you sound? And then when somebody says, you know, that's really insensitive, what you're saying, oh no, no, but I'm not a racist. Well, you're either a fucking racist or you're a fucking ignorant asshole. So which one is it? But you want to go and say a whole paragraph upon paragraph, and you know who I'm talking about. I do know, and they and they continued more posts and more shit. And when people, honest to God, tried to educate them, and it's a dialogue, and exactly, and not like whoa, what the fuck, asshole? Not even which would be gentle, which would be which would have been completely understandable understandable, and then they go to me. And then you spew and you're like, oh, because I'm proud to be white, I'm a fucking racist asshole, and you're gonna report me because you're too much of a pussy to say. No, it's because when people have tried, and and honestly, I'm one of those people who when I see a controversial post, I do look at the comments, I do look to see what the dialogue is because I want to see, but maybe I misunderstood, or you know, whatever. And when the dialogue is simple and and clearly simply stated, and not in a in a threatening way, but in a way that they're just trying to make you understand their side or the point or or whatever, and all you can say is, yeah, well, it's not you, but it's everybody else. That's that's not like that that's my trigger.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, not black, like you're the good kind of black, or I don't mean you. That listen, girl, I've heard that all my life, and it took uh anywho, but it's the difference between saying, I feel sorry that this man died, but as opposed to saying, I'm sorry that the rides are happening, but this man died. There's a difference in how you say things. Those two those two phrases mean two very different things.

SPEAKER_02

Personally, I mean, if we're gonna get into it personally, if I I completely understand why everything is happening, and I cannot fault people for their level of anger and and just fed upness with the whole fucking system and and the whole history of this country, and you can turn around and you can say, Oh, but you're gonna blah blah blah for one bad cop, but you'll be the same person who'll turn around and and then blame all protesters on one bad protester. So don't you can't have it both ways. First of all, you cannot have it both ways. Second of all, personally, I would not be I am not the type of person who would be out rioting or looting. That is not who I am, but that is not to say that is I don't want to I don't want to sound like insensitive, like it's not my business what uh what somebody else does. But I I am only responsible for myself, for my actions, and I am not going to tell somebody else how to behave. I can say, look, if it was me, that's not what I would do. But I have also not walked in your shoes.

SPEAKER_00

And you know what's funny? I have a and I see that point, but I have a total I have a slightly different view on that. I feel that I'm I'm I'm gonna I'm going to throw this out there. The numbers are not made up. The numbers are made up, like I'm just doing hypothetical numbers. So we have 10% of the of people going to the protest that are writing. Notice I said going to the protest are right. Not that the protesters are riding. These are not they're not going to the riots. So I want to you know get that the nuance. People don't um so you have that 10% of people that are writing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'm sure there's I'm sure it's like a big Venn diagram. Some of them are the same, but most of them are not.

SPEAKER_00

But so they're not.

SPEAKER_02

Some people are just taking advantage of the situation.

SPEAKER_00

Well, what up right?

SPEAKER_02

I forgot my point now.

SPEAKER_00

I'm sorry. No, what the fuck was I gonna say? You said something? Right. So you have the small percentage of people that are writing, but that's in the news 90% more of the 90% people that are just protesting. So I'm taking it as I refuse to allow our oppressors to take our message and switch it and pervert our message. So I'm like, you know what? If I happen to be in a position where I am around riders, I'm gonna protest, do not let them pervert our message. Don't give them that's right. Don't give them, don't give them the ammunition to pervert our message. And I totally get like I said, I get you want to burn this motherfucker down. We built this country, this country is built on a found, was built on the back of slaves, built on a foundation of revolution, and everyone forgets that. So guess what? If I want to burn this motherfucker down figuratively, and maybe literally, you got me to that point.

SPEAKER_02

But it's like in a in a more small scale, like, have you never ever been so angry about something that you punch a wall? Yeah, yeah. Okay, and and what happens? You cause damage, the wall didn't do shit to you. You cause damage, and somebody has to fix that wall, whether it's you or somebody else. This is the same thing, but on a bigger scale. And and let's be real, everybody is angry, and rightfully so.

SPEAKER_00

Or you get that bully that keeps picking you, picking you, picking you, and no one, and you do the right thing, you go through the right channels, and no one does a damn thing about it. And when you go flip boating that bully, they want to expel you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, guess what? Oh, well, welcome to being a woman, because can't be I can't be an angry black woman. Like oh, I know. I'm white, I'm white, so at least I get to be angry.

SPEAKER_00

You know, the same thing is my mother, because my mother is black, but she's milk white, blue-eyed. And she says, I recognize my perceived privilege, right? And I use that to my advantage, but don't get it twisted. Like, you know, I don't I'm not walking around here like I'm immune to this shit. I'm not walking around here like shit doesn't matter or like it's not happening. I know this shit is happening. Bobby is it to my advantage. And you're just to her advantage. Um because you know, she know But I mean But okay. Oh wait, we're way on the side.

SPEAKER_02

But that but but then again, that's how shit changes. Because when when you start acknowledging that that that is a thing, because some people won't acknowledge, they're like, oh well, I'm white, my life has been hard. No, but your life has been hard, sure, but your life wasn't harder because you were white. Like, let's be realistic. Like, that's the difference. So when you when people who can pass or you know, or just straight up fucking white as milk, like I am, can we can get into those places and have our voices heard in a different way, and portray the oppressors, right? But you know what I mean, and and the thing that that frustrates me so much more is when people are just so unwilling to hear you, no matter who you are, and they just want to dismiss you and say it and even if somebody like me, who's white, you know what I mean, say, Well, what do you know about it?

SPEAKER_00

I don't have to like I but you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_02

Not like not not like black people saying that, but like other white people. No, I know what do you know about it? Like, you're not black. No, I'm not. But my family is, my friends are, I've educated myself. Like, I I want to understand because it does mean something to me. It could be you know how many times I worry about Alex when he goes out at night? Yeah, he's not black, but he's black. Like he's a man of color, he's a man of color. Like, like the somebody's not gonna care, they're gonna see a dark-skinned guy, and that that's all somebody needs.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, to be honest with you, when other when other white people may say to other private white person, well, what do you know? I gotta tell you, I've been blessed with having some of the most militant as fuck white friends, and they're like, they got the inner Angela Davis and Betty Shabaz in them. They are I'm like, girl, I'm like, get it! Like, and I've been blessed having so many. I may have maybe on a great escape, very few people that don't get it, and then most of my friends get it, and then the ones that, and then I have some that like they don't get it, get it, but they're getting, you know, they're still like but even if you're part of the dialogue, okay, as long as you are willing to listen, they're part of the dialogue, and they get a they get enough of it, you know what I mean? Does that make sense? They get enough of it, and I've been blessed to have really great people.

SPEAKER_02

Even when you get it enough to say I I want to help, but I don't understand. Right. Because even that can spark a dialogue, but when you just shut it out and put posts like, oh well, you have Black Heritage Month, Asian Heritage Month, Gay Month, uh, whatever, women's month, but nobody has a white month, but I'm the racist. The whole fucking America is white America, like uh whatever.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I'm going back to the jungle. Yes, please.

SPEAKER_02

I just I want to go smack him. Like, I really want to be like, can you please learn how to use some fucker prop fucking proper grammar, like a period every once in a while, or maybe a comma, so that your you know thousand-word essay has some fucking grammar so that I could understand at least a little better your racist rant. But anyway, because there's not one fucking piece of grammar and uh punctuation in there.

SPEAKER_00

Well, period, it would never the brightest bob in the box, okay?

SPEAKER_02

He his mother is dead, and he's and he's like, Oh, because some low life killed her, but you don't see me going off on a rant. Okay, I don't know what happened there, but we all went we went to the same school. I know how to use a comma, so I'm not sure what your excuse was. And you're a white man, so the privilege should have been on your side.

SPEAKER_01

But it's funny, okay. You know, it's funny.

SPEAKER_02

Like he's he's like a 41-year-old man, because I'm pretty sure he was left back, and he's still into the fucking Power Rangers, okay? So you need to stop. You need to grow the fuck up.

SPEAKER_00

It's gonna be black. Oh, wait, and then that case, I gotta go.

SPEAKER_02

You know what? I need a fucking chip too.

SPEAKER_00

Have a sip of drink something.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Are you ready?

SPEAKER_00

You knew you were gonna be off track because you're like, I'm trying to stay on track. I'm like, no, it's on track. You knew you were gonna you were triggered. This episode triggered you.

SPEAKER_02

This episode really did trigger me because even as I'm watching, I was getting angry. I was like, This fucking bitch. And Anna Lucia is already not one of my favorite characters, not because she's a cop or anything like that. Just it just wasn't your thing. Something about her, she's not my thing. So Echo asked. The doctor, and then they go to the swan so that they can treat Sawyer, interrupting Locke in the middle of a crossword puzzle. Locke is so cute. He stops to ask what happened, but Jack reminds him that the timer is going off. Jack tries to give Sawyer a pill for the infection, but he don't he won't swallow it. When Jack instructs Kate to hold Sawyer's head up, she holds him and gently and affectionately whispers into his ear until he takes the pill. Jack says he never learned the whole whisper in the ear thing in med school. Echo, walking around the swan, notices the Dharma logo. He also finds the closet full of guns and displays a disapproving facial expression. Echo runs into Locke and the two stare at each other very strangely for several seconds. Echo tells Locke a girl was shot and killed, describing her as tall with blonde hair, whom Locke quickly identifies as Shanning, showing a sense of grief on his face. When asked if he could take Locke to the scene, Echo takes a quick look at the gun rack and says no. One thing that I really love about Locke is that he's so unassuming. You know, like I can understand on one hand why Echo would be an imposing figure, especially carrying Sawyer and coming out of the jungle, catching them off guard. But Locke just sees him as like, hi, hello. Like, doesn't matter. And I feel like that's sorry, go ahead. No, go ahead. I think that the world needs more of that. Like it's hi to an accepting, an accepting attitude where but then again, he also feels like this is his destiny and everything is like for him on the island. So maybe he's like, Oh, who is this that they have brought to me?

SPEAKER_00

But I feel that they looked at each other like they understood each other for some like there was something unsaid. It was a connection between them. I feel like oh, am I am I being psychic again?

SPEAKER_02

I wonder if he ever listened and if he liked it. And I hope that we didn't offend him or anything.

SPEAKER_00

No, I don't think so. Um there was definitely like I feel like they're the two sides of the same coin, um, with their faith and their belief. One is more organized religion, and one is more of just a faith-based, and they they understood each other. And that look, something passed between them. And I think the acting between these two men. They're both excellent actors. It was like I felt like you forget for a minute that this is a scripted show. You feel like it's it's like, oh, these are people, it's just phenomenal.

SPEAKER_02

Um, we're gonna get there when we get to um like after the synopsis, there's a little bit of like trivia stuff about being informed that Shannon has been killed and Saeed is being held prisoner at gunpoint. Jack is furious. Hashtag JackFlies off the handle again. He demands Echo take him there, but Echo sits in silence, telling Jack anything I say will only make you angrier. Once again, he's like, You better take me there.

SPEAKER_00

Like and it's funny how But I bet it's sorry, no, it's funny how both the leaders of the two camps, I say quote unquote leaders of the two camps are both reactionary. Yes, and they're all different, but they're both very reactionary, and where and Lucia has Echo, Jack has Kate or Saeed, depending on the situation he has his Yes. Um but yeah, okay. Oh, before I forget, and I have a point about that too later. Good, we're on the same page. We'll wait to finish the synopsis and I go and I'll do my um my points.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

My little bullshit points.

SPEAKER_02

So Michael, with sun in toe, suddenly bursts into the swan and tells Jack what happened. Jack grabs a rifle and a shotgun, gives the shotgun to Michael, and starts to make his way out of the swan. Suddenly, Echo screams stop and asks Jack what he's looking for. Peace, revenge, justice?

unknown

I love that.

SPEAKER_02

Jack replies that he wants all of his people back safely, and Echo says, Anna Lucia made a mistake. Jack acts shocked when he hears Anna Lucia's name. Echo agrees to take Jack to where Saeed is, but only Jack and without any guns. Anna Lucia begins to interrogate Saeed, first oddly asking him whether he has children. He answers no and poses the same question to her, and she awkwardly replies no. He asks her if she's going to kill him, and she retorts, Should I? Saeed now relates how almost 40 days ago on the island he tied a man to a tree and tortured him, as he had done to many others in his lifetime, others whose voices he still hears at night. Clearly facing a lot of mental anguish, he says, Perhaps she was meant to kill him. Anna in response relates her story, saying that during her shooting, all she heard was a pop, and that by the time she hit the ground, she thought she was dead. She said she feels dead. And Said asks, What happened to her shooter? And Anna recalls when she shot Jason. So that's when we see the flashback.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_02

After a long pause, however, she tells Saeed nothing happened to him and that they never found the guy. I like this scene because it's almost like a battle of the wits. You've got a cop versus a trained interrogator. And Saeed turned that shit around on her so beautifully. I'm sorry, I'm totally team Said here. I'm sorry. No, no, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_00

I support that message.

SPEAKER_02

I am totally biased.

SPEAKER_00

No, I support that message wholeheartedly. Um, as she's talking, no, I want you to finish synopsis because it has nothing to do with this. It can wait.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I was gonna ask, like, so she tells him that they never found the guy. So what do you what do you think happened or any thoughts about that whole situation?

SPEAKER_00

I know what I well, I don't know. I mean, obviously the guy's dead. And I don't know. It's lost. So is it obvious? I mean, I counted. It was six bullets, and the the last three was up close and personal. Like it was it like the first three were at a distance. The that the last three were up close and personal, unless she missed him. Anyway, stop confusing me. Um okay. So I think he's dead, and I think she says she used to be a cop. So either they don't know.

SPEAKER_02

I don't I don't my thing is like as of the day that she shot him, she was a cop. And somewhere between that day and her being on the island. She's no longer a cop. She's no longer a cop.

SPEAKER_00

So I'm thinking something happened on the lines. Like it was they knew, but they didn't know. And for whatever reason, she's no longer a cop. Um, I honestly don't, I don't think she, I don't think she, I don't think she's out on the lamb though. So whatever it is, you know, I think it's one whatever.

SPEAKER_02

Speaking of the lamb, we got a Kate episode next.

SPEAKER_00

So excited. Okay. Um, but okay, so as she's walking, she's talking, I'm looking at the costuming and the jeans, and may I say I am so glad that that super fucking ultra low rise jean look is out of trend. It's like a half an inch over your crotch. You it was never comfortable.

SPEAKER_02

I know, and I I've had them and they were not comfortable.

SPEAKER_00

And I always even when I was thin, I never had the body type for those low rise. So I did, but they still like as I never bought them because I was like, yeah, I never.

SPEAKER_02

And then that's when like the whale tail came out because there was no way that you could wear those with underwear and not have your underwear popping out. So then you would have the thong and the thong stuff, and then that became like the quote unquote trend, which that was stupid, and I didn't do that.

SPEAKER_00

That was nasty. But do you imagine how many women went with no panties? Probably like me. I can't. I think the whole trend was just horrible. I don't know what's wearing anyway. Like you, it was a one specific body type that can pull that off. One her body is my body, and I'm and I'm gonna say it again.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe my stomach isn't so good. You know, I've had three kids, but I still rock a bikini. I still look damn good.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna call you a bitch all damn day.

SPEAKER_02

Don't make me say what I'm gonna call you. Can't say it on air.

SPEAKER_00

You know what? I'm going through a tunnel with losing service. I can't hear you right now.

SPEAKER_02

Uh-huh. I bet.

SPEAKER_00

Um, but yeah, but it's funny that I'm like, okay, let me count how many times she shot him because lost got me all paranoid. Like I'm taking notes on everything.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm. Good. Good. We've done it.

SPEAKER_01

Shut up. Then you smart ass.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, let's keep going. After that, Anna picks up Echo's blade and frees Saeed. She drops both the machete and the gun she was holding and dares him to take his revenge, saying, Go ahead, pick it up. I deserve it. Saeed says, What good would it be to kill you if we're both dead already? And walks away.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. Every episode I see, they just reinforce my epiphany I had last season. So that's one thing I'm wrong. Okay. So like I feel like this is just reinforcedness, I'm probably wrong. Like just based on that.

SPEAKER_02

Well, from a uh, you know, a psychology background standpoint. I think that Said has Libby. Said has reached, you know, the acceptance phase. And so he's he's no longer in the anger phase, you know. Because anger is a step is stage two. So he's past it. So he's not gonna he's not gonna go after her now.

SPEAKER_00

You know, he's in the depression or the he goes through his phases quickly.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, there's no, you know, there's so no set time frame. So no, he's like he's but he was tied to a tree. What else did he have to do? But think move through the face. Okay, I'm just oh my god. I haven't eaten.

SPEAKER_00

I haven't even eaten today. And no, I'm reading my messages. That's I'm looking at you like oh, you because you saw what I text you?

SPEAKER_02

Yes, you're welcome. And I wasn't gonna say it all out, okay. Eventually, the rest of the tail section survivors and Jin make it back to the camp where Bernard and Rose, as well as Jin and Sun, are finally reunited. I was sitting there like shedding a little tear. I was like, I was getting choked up. I didn't get choked up, but I was like, oh like you you could just feel like how much they meant we are you crying now?

SPEAKER_01

No, okay.

SPEAKER_02

I was like, wow, okay. Out in the jungle, Saeed carries Shannon's body Shannon's body back to Cam, and Anna Lucia and Jack finally meet again. The two stand apart staring at each other.

SPEAKER_00

Is this gonna be a love square?

SPEAKER_01

We go from the love triangle to a love square now. Like dun dun. Okay. Possibly. Interesting.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so that's the end of the episode. So let's do the trivia real quick. It's not much, it's stupid. Um the name for Jason Elder was later changed to Jason McCormick. Yeah, I don't know why. That was the guy who shot Anna Lucia. And the Swan is featured for the first time since everybody hates Hugo. We actually haven't seen it in a while. And we actually really haven't even seen Jack for a while.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. I mean the trivia's like, uh-huh. Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_02

And okay, so that now it gets better. These are actually production notes, but I'm gonna read you a couple because they're they're good. So El Scott Caldwell, who plays Rose, and Sam Anderson, who plays Bernard, deliberately did not meet before the reunion scene, as they wanted it to be as authentic as possible.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that's cool. So they didn't know who they were.

SPEAKER_02

Nope, that was the first time they met.

SPEAKER_00

That's so fucking cool.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

Brava! Brava!

SPEAKER_02

Maggie Grace, who plays Shannon, was credited as a special guest star for playing Shannon's corpse. This is the only time in the series that a special guest star did not have lines.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

This is the oh, this is the first episode to be centric to someone who wasn't one of the original 14 characters.

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_02

So I have to read it on my phone. Okay, so when Locke was doing the crossword puzzle, the clue was it was 42 down, 42 being one of the numbers, and the the thing was friends of nkidu, which I'm not sure if I'm saying that right.

SPEAKER_00

Well, what was it? I I missed that part, like I was just trying to, it was going too fast for me, and I never so what was it?

SPEAKER_02

Friends of what? The clue for 42 down was friends of N Kidu, E-N-K-I-D-U. E-E-N-K? E-N-K-I-D-U. And the answer was Gilgamesh. And so this is a reference to the aforementioned poem, which is the epic of Gilgamesh, from ancient Mesopotamia. The reference may be analogous to the two Titan, largest or tallest characters in the series. Echo and Sawyer, who reflect Gilgamesh and Enkidu, andor it may allude to Mr. Echo and John Locke, who, like the characters of the epic, share a mystical destiny together. Both Locke and Echo have an inherent affinity with the island, while Gilgamesh and Enkidu share a divine destiny guided by the gods. Gilgamesh the King was a retelling of the epic, and the novel preserves a fundamental ambiguity over the issuance of the I'm sorry, over the issue of coincidence versus divine destiny. Mirroring the storyline of Echo and Locke.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god, I'm so perceptive. Well, you know, I I am a Libra and we all were natural empaths. So we see things, we feel things, we notice the nuances, even if it's on TV. So you buy that shit? Are you buying any of that crap I just loaded on you?

SPEAKER_02

Now, in this episode, the leaders of the two groups meet, Jack and Anna Lucia. What do you think is gonna happen aside from the love square?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. I didn't think about it.

SPEAKER_02

Because you saw the way they looked at each other. So what do you think is coming next?

SPEAKER_00

I have no idea. I think they're gonna bump heads if she ever decides to be part of the group. There's gonna be a lot of head bumping.

SPEAKER_02

I I can agree with that.

SPEAKER_00

Because it's like two, like they don't like the like opposites are tracked you can't have a positive and positive, or negative and negative, they're gonna repel each other.

SPEAKER_02

The episode is called Collision.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, there was one point I wanted to make. And then you want to muck it up. When they were golfing, and then Kate hit her awesome, that drive right across awesome. Anyway, and then he kind of looked kind of like hmm about it. And then when he hit his, his look was like, I took it, it was more, it was more than just disappointment. It was more like, how did I not get that? You know what I mean? It was more like, and combined with his initial look with her hitting her ball so well, it just seemed to me to be like this is not the way it's supposed to go. Like, this is not how it's supposed, like, no, this is not right. Like, like white male privilege. Let me stop.

SPEAKER_02

Um Kate, I am a doctor.

SPEAKER_00

But you know, he doctors play golf, but I think I think I think he felt like I'm supposed to be better at this. What do you mean that this girl Kate?

SPEAKER_02

Like, how dare she be better at it than me? I'm a doctor.

SPEAKER_00

Am I crazy for feeling that kind of way?

SPEAKER_02

I am crazy, but that's not true. I mean, I didn't catch that, but you know. The episode is called Collision. What are your thoughts on the title? Because you know that there's always like dual dual meanings and triple meanings and yeah. I mean, so aside from the two groups kind of um colliding.

SPEAKER_00

Well, damn it, I don't know then. Um that was my guess. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I just I just feel like it's a lot of like them bumping into each other, bumping heads, intermingling, you know, the two groups colliding with each other because it's it wasn't a seamless integration. No, it was a fucking collision, you know.

SPEAKER_00

You know what? It went better than I thought it was gonna go. I mean, never mind Shannon being killed, but I for I foresaw like it could have been a lot worse, especially with they don't know you know, with the others and all this other shit, like it could have been a lot, a lot worse. Like Michael and Jen could have been further back, and yeah, I don't know. You could have been killed too, like it could have been, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And I guess maybe in regards to her flashbacks, like colliding quote unquote with uh Jason. Oh, well, yeah, that's you know, and that aspect, like he shot her and then she got her revenge on him after all that.

SPEAKER_00

He collided with six bullets.

SPEAKER_02

He yes, he did. After seeing this episode and getting more on Anna Lucia's backstory, what are your thoughts on her? See, I feel like for Anna Lucia, like you feel about Jack. Like Jack just doesn't bother me as much as she bothers me.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's yeah, it is so funny that we we have this that we have such guttural reactions to the two quote unquote leaders. I think that's funny.

SPEAKER_02

Alright, so go ahead.

SPEAKER_00

I don't remember.

SPEAKER_02

The thoughts on Anna Lucia? Alright.

SPEAKER_00

I don't remember the question. What was the question?

SPEAKER_02

Like Thoughts on Anna Lucia.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I kind of feel sorry for her in a way. I think she didn't get I think she needed she for whatever reason she didn't get the help that she really needed. I can agree with that. And I feel so and um that's and I think that's the only part I feel sorry, like I mean if it was like uh uh like if it was one of those action moves that I'm normally watching after shooting him, she that would have been better. She would have it would have been instantly healed. I don't know, I think I might have.

SPEAKER_02

I'm not and like this is not to say that I don't like Michelle Rodriguez. She's a great actress. I have nothing against Michelle Rodriguez. I don't like the character. So if you love Michelle Rodriguez, please save your hate because I don't hate Michelle Rodriguez.

SPEAKER_00

No, it's not right. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I mean she does an amazing job portraying the character of Anna Lucia. I just don't like the character.

SPEAKER_00

See, I I don't know. I think um when I see Anna Lucia, I see every character Michelle Rodriguez has played. They are kind of similar. Every character, like cop, non-cop, like they've all have the same still, the characters are still very similar.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And I feel like that's her. I don't know. I I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Our next episode is what Kate Did.

SPEAKER_00

Wait, do we take my answer? I think we see.

SPEAKER_02

So I mean, based on that title, what do you think?

SPEAKER_01

No ain't lost. Who fucking knows? But no.

SPEAKER_02

Um it could be what Kate did last night. I mean, like it could have been, right? Um all right, so you you're always saying that you hope that you hope to be that you hope to find out what she did. So is that still a hope?

SPEAKER_00

Sooner sooner rather than later. Because I want to wait till season six. But these um, yeah, I'm excited.

SPEAKER_02

You might have to wait till season six.

SPEAKER_00

But I just know one thing throughout the whole shut up. Throughout the whole thus far of our experience, I'm like, but what did she do? She did this, she had to do that, and I'm trying to work out the timeline. You kept saying, but really? Are you sure? I'm like, I am sure. Because the timelines make it so that there had to be something else.

SPEAKER_02

I have a feeling that you are going to enjoy the next episode. So yay. Let's see. We'll see. Alright. Until next time, that'll do it for this episode. Stay tuned for the next episode, which will be what Kate did, where we get more on Kate's backstory, and we'll see if Al Agnes truly does enjoy it, like I think she will. I could be wrong.
