He just looks like someone from my past, so I'm like, ugh. I just like have to roll my eyes and just like bath through when I whenever he's on the screen. And it's totally not his fault. You just have to hit bear the brunt of my displeasure.

Kate returns from collecting fruit to find Sawyer's clothes and the book Watership Down on the Beach. He notices her and emerges from the water to exchange a few flirtatious words with her. Sawyer returns to his belongings and finds Boone rifling through them. Back at the caves, as Jack attends to a wound on the back of Saeed's head, an injured Said explains that after he fired his flare in response to seeing Sawyer's signal, he was hit from behind by an unknown assailant, intent on stopping him from triangulating the distress signal. Boone and Shannon return to the caves to find Jack. Boone has been beaten up by Sawyer. Boone is adamant that Sawyer has been stealing from the wreckage and has stolen Shannon's inhaler, among other things. Due to embarrassment, Shannon had not told anyone about her asthma. In a flashback, Sawyer is in bed with a young woman, Jessica. After he declares his love for her, she realizes he is late for a meeting. As he rushes to leave, his briefcase falls open, revealing thousands of dollars in cash he says she was not supposed to have seen. Sawyer tells her about a too good-to-be-true oil deal in which the government will triple his money if he puts $300,000 towards a share in an oil rig. The only problem is that he has a mere $140,000 and needs someone to put in the remaining $160,000. Jessica suggests that she might be able to help supply the remaining money. On the island, Jack unsuccessfully demands the inhalers from Sawyer. After talking to Kate about it on the beach, he states he wants to kill Sawyer, which provokes Kate to ask, Why haven't you? Jack simply replies, We're not savages, Kate. Not yet. Kate asks the apparent thief what he wants in return for the inhalers. To which he replies, a kiss ought to do it. She mentions Sawyer's delicate treatment of his letter as proof of his humanity. And out of anger of Kate knowing about it, he tells her to read the letter out loud. The letter is addressed to Mr. Sawyer and explains that Sawyer had sex with the letter writer's mother and stole all his father's money, resulting in the father killing his wife and himself. This is later shown to be not completely truthful. As Saeed tries to figure out who struck him, Locke says he was skinning a boar at the time of the attack. He then suggests that Sawyer is the culprit since he is doing well for himself on the island, hoarding other people's possessions, and also seems to dislike Saeed. Meanwhile, Shannon is beginning to have trouble breathing due to her lack of medication and panic resulting from this problem. Jack tries punching answers out of Sawyer, but he stops when he sees others' dis disapproval. You don't have asthma, right? No. Asthma sucks.

I mean, okay, so maybe I can I get the whole I don't know, correct me I'm wrong, but yeah, you kind of want the person to be relatively calm. I said relatively. You want the person to be relatively calm because the you know it just makes it worse. I get that.

But telling a asthmatic who's having a an attack, just breathe. It's the dumbest shit I've ever heard. I'm just like this is and I'm and I'm not asthmatic, I don't get the you know, but as I look in, the fuck. That's like like no shit, I want to breathe. Like I was just looking at the screen, like, really?

It's okay. The the feeling of not being able to breathe, and then especially if you don't have your inhaler, you I mean, I'm not I'm not one like prone to anxiety, but I've been in that situation.

And that is I can I can't even imagine how anxious that and then your body is just like you feel like your body's trying to kill itself, yeah, and you can't breathe, you don't have any options. So I get that anxiety and how traumatic that can be, and that makes everything worse. I get it. But I'm sure if someone you're there telling you just to breathe, just breathe, damn it, is it's you're like, it's not gonna help the situation, but that's just me. What do I know?

But but ironically, that's the only thing you really can do, you know, at least in the interim, until you can get help, you know, some like medication or until it passes. Um true.

I get it. Maybe okay, you can do this, we can breathe. Try to c but tell them to breathe when they're trying to breathe. That's like telling someone who's mad not to be mad. That's just me. I'm outside looking in. Maybe I take it personal because uh a person living with a chronic debil debil debilitating illness and people telling you the obvious, she's like, if you get the fuck out of my face. Um you're like, no, this is fun for me. Yeah, I like this. Thanks. Why didn't I think of that? But that's just me.

So Shannon, Shannon kinda reminds me of myself a little bit. Because she doesn't carry her inhaler because she's embarrassed. And I'm not embarrassed, like fuck it. You know, breathing's cool as far as I'm concerned.

But I I don't always carry my inhaler. And I get yelled at all the time for it.

But that's why I know what she feels like because you know I've been caught without it. And and that's scary. It's not that s it hasn't been that severe since I was young. When I was young, I was hospitalized a few times, but I think I remember that vaguely.

But um, yeah, but but that feeling of like I don't even want to call it panic, just of discomfort of that struggle until I can get to one of my inhalers, it's not fun. I don't know why I do it to myself, but I'm a fucking sadist. I never learn.

Yeah, I guess. Alright, let's keep going. In a flashback, Sawyer has lunch with Jessica and her husband David. The three discuss the oil deal. To earn David's trust, Sawyer lends him the money for a day. That's a risky move.

Well, it kind of makes sense to me. Since you're a con man. Long game, big picture. Not that I'm professional or anything. I'm just guessing. I am a professional TV watcher. Right. So, right. Right.

On the beach, Claire and Charlie are talking about the things that they miss. And she misses peanut butter. She says these she's the only Australian who likes peanut butter. What would you miss if you were on an island?

Um I don't know. I don't know. You want to think something like food-wise?

Yeah, anything. Because I mean Charlie, Charlie talks about other things. I mean, they talked about food and they talked about warm, fluffy towels, but I guess it could be anything. What would you miss?

I don't know. I don't know. First world problems. I don't know. I I don't I don't honestly don't know. I like let's say food-wise, like since I've been on my very restrictive diet, I've learned to make substitutions and stuff. So I would probably like food-wise, I'll probably hopefully find a substitution. Hopefully. I'll just suffer through it.

Okay, with Jack's approval, Saeed ties Sawyer to a tree and tortures him for answers, revealing that he has tortured people many times before. Sawyer finally agrees to give up the inhalers, but only to Kate. In a flashback, a lone shark named Kilo asks Sawyer why the money which belonged to Kelo was left with David. Sawyer explains that husbands are not easily conned unless they think they are in control. He says the scam is almost completed and Kelo demands his money. Plus 50% by the next day. Back on the beach, Sawyer again says that he will hand over the medication if she kisses him, meaning Kate. Which she reluctantly does, only to find out that he does not have the medication after all. Kate slaps Sawyer and an enraged Said attacks him, stabbing him in the arm and hitting an artery. Luckily, Jack is there to stop the bleeding and save Sawyer's life.

I I was waiting for it. Sawyer in a flashback goes to Jessica's house to finalize the deal, but reconsiders upon seeing a small boy emerge from another room. He suddenly calls off the con, drops his briefcase of money, and rushes out of their house. Okay, so now we're gonna go back to the island and it's day 10 on the island. So now that they've been there for ten days.

Okay. Um Sawyer wakes up on the beach with his arm bandaged up while Kate looks on. She explains that she figured out from the bicentennial label on the envelope that the letter was not written to Sawyer, but by him to another man. He tells Kate that after a con man ruined his family, he ended up becoming a con man himself. So he took the name Sawyer as an alias. At the caves, Sun has created a plant remedy of crushed eucalyptus leaves retrieved by Michael, which improves Shannon's breathing. Meanwhile, Charlie convinces Claire to move to the caves by bringing her pretend peanut butter. Despite a plea from Kate, Said sets off alone to explore the island's shoreline, disgusted with himself for breaking a vow never to torture anyone again. Before leaving, he kisses Kate's hand and says, I hope we meet again. The scene with Charlie and Claire was kind of cute with the peanut butter. I mean It was kind yeah, it was cute. It was kind of also fucked up because she was so excited when he said that he got her peanut butter. But then the gallery was like.

That's why she still reminds me so much of Belle from Once Upon a Time, because the character is just so syrupy sweet.

So this whole episode, like I'm watching, like just I'm watching it, and at the beginning, I'm like, so um we see that we spoke about it before, like each show, each episode only gives you but the past, but it gives you some sort of redemption story.

It gives you like an insight into these people. And um, yeah, I I I'm not finding redemption was so here. So and I think that's kind of cool in that it's not that predictable. Like, all right, I get him. There's no redemption, he is who he is.

Yes, but he's kind of different. He kind of like that. He kind of had a little bit of redemption in his flashback though.

It's more ex well, him not going against the con him not doing the con because of the kid. But he's still a he's still a dick. And like he could be a dick and not be malicious and not be evil, not be like completely evil, but he's still a dick. So it's not a re you know, it's not a redemption in of itself. It's just like, okay, I'm I have my phone. I ain't gonna go this far.

Like he feels like he's like some kind of he's going through what's the word I'm looking for. He's doing some kind of like self-fagulation because he wants like he needs to be beat up for his past. He wants to be punished.

Loc. Where were you last night? Well, I'm afraid the only witness to my whereabouts is the board that I was skinning for our dinner. I heard you were trying to send out a distress call. So it would seem whoever attacked you has a reason for not wanting to get off the island. Maybe someone who is profiting from our current circumstances. And from what I've seen, you and Mr. Sawyer share a certain animosity. No, he has an alibi. Just before I was struck, he sent off a bottle rocket as a signal we'd worked out two kilometers away. He couldn't have had the time to go for it. He found a way to time delay the fuse on his rocket. How could he possibly have been? Anyone who watches television knows how to improvise a slow fuse.

But Yeah. Alright, so let's let's talk about um the main themes of this episode. So we learn that in his previous life, his life off the island, Sawyer was a con man. Which it's not that far of a jump. I mean Right.

And we learn that Saeed was a torturer. He worked for the intelligence, but that's how he got it by torturing people. And then at the end of the episode, we see him take off on his own. You know, he felt bad about what he did, so he left.

You know, going back to Sawyer, he carried that letter. This episode is supposed to take place in 2004. And the bicentennial was seven seventeen. Was 1976. Right. So that's about 38. 26, 96.

So 28 years he's been carrying that damn letter around.

I mean, and it's kind of obvious. Like your parents, like your father kills your mother and kills himself because of some con man. That leaves some deep seated trauma. And obviously that letter was, I guess, kind of lack a better term, therapy. I guess. His own personal closure. So yeah, you carry that around with you. We all I think everyone has something that they carry with them, whether knowingly or subconsciously, their own little I don't know, security blanket or talisman or something of that nature. So yeah, that totally makes sense. And a lot of the things on the show doesn't make sense. You know, but this makes sense to me. Like, you know, escape dogs and all other stuff. Or which is a new black box. That was awesome, Lisa.

Like, you know what I mean? I think um Jack is too immediately damaged for my liking. Like I lose my lady heart on. And then Sawyer's too much, she's just too much over the top, annoying. I'm like, yeah, I'm gonna lose my lady heart off of that one too. So yeah, neither. But you know, Mary kills fuck. Like you marry Jack, you fuck Sawyer, you know what I mean?

Um, I like the fact that it wasn't a complete redemption story, it was more just an explanation story. Like, okay, I still don't have to like him, but I get it. And I like that little I like that a little deeper with him on this episode. Good job, writers. Um, because like you guys already need my approval.

I'm like, okay.

So I at first I thought he was extremely I was like, okay, great, he's a little useful. He's he has you know, he can be useful on this deserted island. And I didn't, and I kind of liked him. He had good ideas, and he still has good ideas. But that whole but between him and Jack and kind of like this melt like just whip it out already and measure the shit. It was just like the whole with them finding shelter, and he was like, no, we're gonna do this. Like, dude, I think both of them kind of just like and I don't believe I don't understand how that one person either was like, well, dumb, let's do them both. You're big dum-dums, but that's besides the point. I don't know. We'll see. Like, I don't dislike him, honestly. He got um he I think I had an episode where he I I need a moment from him because he was getting on my nerves. So he's not a character I dislike, and I'm interested to see where his episode goes to. And does he come back? Or does he just does he come back ever or does he just walk off to no man's land?

He stabs him in the arm because he didn't his information didn't pan out. We see him leave because he's feeling remorse about what he did. And he plans to map the island. That's his plan. Right. So I mean, you we got a we get two sides.

Which is every man, every every person, not man as far as men, but man as a human as mankind. Everyone has two sides. Everyone has their breaking point. Everyone has was it was that old addict that has three faces? I don't know. Um the one they have in, you know, the one that they have in public, the one they have private, and the one that they have they look at themselves at, you know, whatever. Anywho. And I think uh I don't think there's necessarily wrong with him. Um I think he needs some anger management, possibly. Um, yeah. You know, what are we gonna do? This is um designed an island. It is what it is, and you make the most of the you make the best of what you got. And right now you you have a man who is capable and who has a certain level, a certain skill level. You know, this uh I'm su and he's aware of his downfalls and his triggers, so hey, let him do it, let him get to work and map it out, and hopefully he can get back and channel his skills in a more positive way. And everyone gets to work and surviving this shithole. But that's just me. What do I know? It's a TV show, Agnes. It's not being so emotionally involved.
