I went to Six Flags yesterday and I'm fucking exhausted. So we like they had like all the Fright Fest and everything. And my little one walked around covering her ears the whole time because she was freaking out by the music and the and the clowns and stuff. My mother threatened like two of them. She went like this to backhand one of them. I turned around and I see the cop the clown on the floor. I was like, oh my god, did you hit him? And she's like, No, I don't know why he was on the floor. I was like, maybe he tripped. She's like, I swear I didn't touch him.

Okay, that's fair. That is fair because it it yeah. So we're gonna get into the whole thing, but we've got a what the fuck moment at the beginning. We've got four new characters. Ready?

The episode opens underwater, and we see two remotely operated vehicles, ROVs, that are probing the ocean floor. The vantage point is rove one, and then it switches to rove two. There's a dialogue between the two technicians, and the ROV display doesn't specify any information like the boat or the research team, it just shows, like, you know, the depth, the signal, that kind of thing. The operator claims that the sonar is picking up something, and the operator of Rove 2 says that he's heading on a bearing of about 137 from the coordinates we pulled off of our guy's map. So I I actually had to go back because I'm like, remember when Michael gets off the island and they put him in the boat, and then they're like, if you just stay on a bearing of whatever, that's the only way to get out. Yes, and I couldn't rem I actually couldn't remember, so I had to go back to see if it was the same.

I know, but no, it was it was 325. I did remember like more or less what episode it was in, though, but um, so yeah, so this one is 137, and the bearings that Michael had to follow to get off the island with Walt was 325, so it wasn't the same. And I was like, is it half? Is it like no, there's there's no relation that I could find. He also goes on to say that his magnetometer is picking up a lot of anomalies, and he suggests he needs to recalibrate. The rove comes across the wreckage of an oceanic airline airlines plane, airlines, and the operator declares it as flight 815. We see the entire plane broken into three connected pieces. Did you have any thoughts when you just saw the plane at the bottom?

My first thought was the planes together. That was my first thought. And I'm like, and then I'm like obviously back to was it just at was it last week's episode or the week before? I don't know anymore. But anyway, and uh like oh, like okay, so this is where the whole what's like question because it's a space-time continuum. I don't know, but um okay, this is the beginning of the end of my sanity. Got it. Cool. Um, that was legit my first thought. I'm able to come. Okay, so the reason I have so much time to have these wild and fanciful thoughts is because I have to pause it to like jot down my notes. Because I learned that I can't watch or write notes with the show because some things aren't said, things are done, looks are given, and so I pause, I write my little note, and I'm like, okay, this is the beginning of the end for my brain. Great, this is it. Unpause. So I'm my brain doesn't really work as fast as I get the impression that it does.

But not the will. Okay, back to lost. All right. So we're gonna do this more or less in order this time. We cut to a scene where a news report is showing footage of a submerged plane and explains that the remains of Flight 815 have been found by the Christian one in the Sun Sunda Trench, which is located off the coast of Bali. The reporter says Oceanic 815 did in fact crash at sea, but says the discovery does not offer any sense of closure. All the passengers are confirmed dead. We see Daniel Faraday is the one watching the news report, and he is in Essex, Massachusetts. He's crying while he's watching the news. His caretaker asks him why he is so upset, and he replies that he doesn't know.

Okay, that scene kind of um, I was like, my my initial thought was why the fuck aren't you crying? Because you know you see something that horrific and like, oh my god, these people, most people's reaction would be to cry. Like the last I don't I won't say 20 plus years actually, but the last especially the last three, four years, I've watched some shit happen on TV that doesn't affect me at all, and I'm just boo-hooing because oh my fucking god. So it was weird for her to ask why you're crying was kind of weird to me. And this was obviously after 9-11, so we had a whole world that watched something that didn't affect them directly, but you can do nothing but watch your TVs and just cry. So I was like, Yeah, that's fair.

On the island, Daniel Faraday and three other people are on a helicopter which is struggling to stay in the air. Miles pushes a scared Faraday out of the chopper. Faraday then activates his parachute and lands with the thud. He's still scared and disoriented. He hears people approaching and readies a handgun which he hides in his belt around his back. Jack and Kate arrive. Still disoriented, he introduces himself and says he's there to rescue them. Dan's phone is lost, so Jack offers his phone. Daniel calls George, who asks what happened as the chopper's communications had gone dead. Daniel says he doesn't know, in the electrical storm, everything went dead and he jumped out. He then says he's speaking with some of the survivors. George asks if he's on speaker, and Daniel excuses himself. Kate tells Jack not to worry, and Jack says, You sure about that? as he points his head towards the gun that Daniel has in his pants. Daniel returns, telling them that the ship has no communication with anyone else. He doesn't know where the rest of his team is, but they all have GPS units which allow their satellite phones to track them. We cut to Locke's group, and Sawyer realizes that they aren't moving in the direction of the barracks. Locke explains that they have to take a detour to a cabin. Hurley tells Locke that the cabin is in a different direction, and Locke and Ben are both surprised to hear Hurley talking about the cabin, which prompts Hurley to awkwardly say that he was referring to the planes cabin.

Locke explains to Sawyer that Walt has been guiding him and told him he had work to do and that he had to stop Naomi from bringing the rest of her people. Locke tells Sawyer that Walt saves his life after Ben shot him. Locke proves to a doubtful Sawyer that he was shot by showing him his wound. Because he's like, wait, he shot you and you're just here. And he says that he probably would have died if he still had a kidney where the bullet passed clean through.

And Walt. I would like to see Walt. Like X was it? Like, I don't how long has it been since he left? Like on the show. Not in real life, but on Showtime. How long was it been?

But on the on the real life side of it, it's been at least months, right? So then that's where they make a joke because they're like, it was like Walt, but taller. You know, but taller. He aged.

And then at the end of season two, they sent him back. They put him on the boat with Michael and sent, you know, because Michael had to free Ben and bring right. And that was in exchange for the book.

But I feel like real world time closer to a year because of the strike, maybe. Oh yeah. So I feel like it was like, yeah. But it's funny, the reason I want to say I want to see him now is because I think okay, so real world time is it's been a long time, and obviously he didn't come back because of puberty, and it was like, um, yeah, this isn't gonna work anymore. Um, but I think it would have worked for lost purposes to see like pubested Walt do with like a cameo. And they're like, what the like as far as like the whole loss and the obviously they're just they're in a whole different world than the rest of the world is. So I think it would have right, it would have fit. They could have got it to fit. You heard that lost writers? You could have made it work.

Over at the beach, Saeed asks Juliet why, based on her experience with the others and the knowledge of the others, that Ben would say that the people from the freighter intend to harm them. Juliet, Juliet gives like the most politician answer ever. She says that Ben lies, and the lie could be to create fear. But then she says that these people could also be here to harm them.

So Daniel, Jack, and Kate head towards the signal. They find a metal box. Kate asks if it's from the chopper. Daniel stutters about them dropping it. Sorry. Daniel stutters about them dropping it to reduce weight. Jack finds gas masks and red bags with biohazard symbols in the box. He asks Daniel what the masks are for. Daniel looks nervously around and says he wasn't in he wasn't the one in charge of packing. Jack confronts him on why he has a gun, and Daniel reveals that saving them is not their primary objective. So now it's already leaning more towards like, oh shit, is everything that Ben was saying and Locke was saying right?

At this point, I think with Locke, as far as his perception of it, I don't think it's as dire other than the fact he don't want to leave. They find Miles apparently unconscious on a rocky outcrop by the shore. Jack approaches and removes Miles' helmet in order to examine him. Miles reacts and pulls a gun on Jack.

Daniel trials tries to calm Miles down, but Miles will have none of it. He asks Kate where is the woman she killed? And Miles then informs them that when Naomi asking after her sister, it was a distress code to indicate that she was under duress. Kate informs Miles that Naomi was killed but by Locke, a rogue member. And Miles insists that they take him to the body, asserting that he'll know whether they're telling the truth or not. So now we get Miles' flashback. We see him in Inglewood, California. He's driving up to a house while listening to a radio report about flight 815. The reporter says that the plane is accounted for, a salvage mission is unlikely, and that authorities are confirming all 324 passengers are dead. He gets a briefcase out of his trunk and goes to the door. He introduces himself to Mrs. Gardner as Miles Strom and she invites him in. Side note: I don't remember where I heard this, but I heard this like back when you know the show was on. His name was Miles Strom because they wanted it to sound like Maelstrom. I don't know if I'm pronouncing the word right, but yeah.

Yes. I was like, wait, she lit this dude in her house? Like you must be very desperate and in pain to allow a dustbuster in your house. Like he's a dust, he's a he's a dustbusting scammy ghostbuster. Because it's like a dustbuster.

Mm-hmm. And he tells her no matter what you hear, don't come upstairs. Then he says that he's charging her 200 instead of 100 because he found out that her grandson was murdered from a friend in the police. But she agrees. He goes upstairs to the grandson's room, sets up the machine, and turns it on. He sits on the bed and he begins to speak to the empty room. He says that he isn't doing his grandma any good by staying, and that he's causing her pain. Miles adds that he wants to tell Mrs. Gardner that the occupant has left, but he can only tell her he has left when he tells where it is. Just then a noise attracts his attention to the bookcase. He moves it to discover a bundle of cash and a small yellow bag of powder concealed in an air vent. He pockets the cash, puts the powder back, and then tells the listener, You can go now. Miles tells Mrs. Gardiner it worked and that he's at peace now. He refunds her back half of his fee, saying that it wasn't as tricky as I thought, and then he leaves. Do you think that Miles is full of shit?

Later we see that Ben tells Alex that he needs to talk to her. Carl hears hears this and stands in his way. Ben is like, now Carl, if you're gonna sleep with my daughter, like ew? Ew?

Sawyer takes Carl away from Ben, saying that he's just trying to play with his mind. Like he's trying to fuck with you because this is what he does.

You gotta give him that. He is the best at it. Ben asks Sawyer why he didn't go with Kate in Jack's group. Sawyer remains cool, doesn't oblige, but then Ben goes on to tell him how he wouldn't stand the chance with Kate if she were to get back home because off the island, he is nothing, nothing in comparison to Jack. Sawyer gets upset and shocker, Ben gets beat again. He is like the most beaten-up man on television. I think.

I mean, he's a is obviously a masochist at some level. I'm just saying, I get trying to okay, I understand the whole like poking the bear to get a reaction so they can not be on their game. I get that, but at the same time, he gets some pleasure. I get his ass beat, I think. A little masochism in there. Like there's only so much you can take without I don't know. Like he he will allow himself to get beat by everybody in that group, and only so much of it is means to an end. Part of it is you that's your kink, dude. That's okay. And we all have our kinks, admit to it, it's cool.

Yeah, so Sawyer says that they should kill him, and Locke explains that they need Ben alive because he has information about the island. Sawyer reminds him that Ben is dangerous and leaves Ben with Loc to lead along. On the other side, when they take Miles to Naomi's body, he talks quietly over her. At the same time, Daniel is commenting on the way that the light scatters. Miles informs Faraday that Jack and Kate are telling the truth, and just then they receive a signal from Charlotte's GPS. Miles orders everyone to follow him. Jack winks at Kate and insists that Miles and Faraday put away their guns. When Miles resists, Jack says that his own people are waiting in the jungle with rifles trained at their heads. Miles says he shouldn't be taken for an idiot, but then two shots ring out as Juliet and Said come into the clearing, pointing guns at Faraday and Miles. Jack collects their guns and they head off to find Charlotte. Now we have another flashback, and this time it's Charlotte. We are in Medanin, Tunisia. We see a redheaded woman pick up a French newspaper that says that Flight eight fifteen has been recovered. Her friend asks how many different languages are you gonna read it in before you believe it? And she quips, How many different languages are there? They bribe a man to gain access into an excavation site in the middle of the desert where they find the bones of a polar bear. Her associate wonders if it's some kind of dinosaur, but Charlotte says that the bones are a few million years newer than that. Her associate then questions its authenticity, claiming that it must be a hoax. Charlotte, instead of studying the polar bear, goes digging around it and quickly finds a collar that has the hydra sign on it, associating the dead bear with the Dharma initiative. She smiles looking at it. So not only do we have polar bears on the island, but we've got polar bears, Dharma polar bears, bones of Dharma polar bears being found in a desert desert in Tunisia. Make it make sense.

Back on the island, Charlotte wakes up hanging upside down in her parachute harness. The shoot is caught in a tree overhanging a small river. She frees herself and plunges into the water. She looks around and seems ecstatic to be on the island. Locke and his group arrive at the same place, and then Charlotte is like amazed to find the survivors alive. She's asking a lot of questions about them and they exhibit various levels of trepidation and hostility. She explains that she has a transponder and the rest of her team will find them soon. Jack and the others are searching for Charlotte, and Saeed questions Miles about why the four of them are there. Said takes Miles' sat phone and tries to use it to call the freighter, but instead he sees Charlotte's signal. It's moving quickly towards them. The group runs towards the signal and sees something moving towards them in the bushes. It's Vincent. Vincent's back. And he emerges with Charlotte's GPS tied around his neck. Frank is watching the television coverage of the discovery of Flight 815, which shows the bodies in the undersea wreckage. One body is identified as Seth Norris, the pilot of the flight. And this is, you know, supposedly Seth Norris, who we saw get eaten by the smoke monster in the pilot episode.

Locke tells her that he doesn't want her to do that, but Charlotte insists. She's like, I don't need your permission. Um Clara is saying that the person who shot the flare might be hurt, and Locke reminds the group that Charlotte and her team didn't come to the island to rescue them. While they argue, Ben takes Carl's gun and shoots Charlotte twice in the chest. She goes down. Sawyer fucks up Ben and Locke goes to check on Charlotte, but she's still alive. She's actually wearing a bulletproof vest under her jacket.

Miles tries to call Minkowski, but is informed by a woman that he's not able to answer the phone at this time. As Dan and Kate carry Naomi's body to the helicopter, Miles stops them saying, That's not Naomi, it's just meat. Frank promises Dan that he'll take Naomi's body on the next flight because the helicopter is low on fuel and should not carry any unnecessary weight. Meanwhile, Juliet is treating Frank's head wound. When he asks her name and she tells him, he realizes that she wasn't on the plane. He has the flight manifest memorized. He calls Miles and tells him that well, he calls Miles over, not that he calls him. Um and he tells him that Juliet wasn't on the plane and calls her native. Miles becomes aggressive and asks Juliet where he is. When Jack steps between them, Miles pulls out a picture of Ben standing by a woman near a computer stating they have come to the island to find him. This picture of Ben, Ben is like a full-grown adult standing by a computer. Now, obviously, we know that they have like technology on the island and whatnot.

She thinks that Abaddon has chosen the wrong people for this mission as they lack military or field experience. She said it would be a disaster without protection. And he tells her you are their protection. She says that it's a high risk, covert operation in unstable territory, especially with four untrained operatives. She then describes the team one by one, calling Daniel a headcase mild. Charlotte's a Ghostbuster, Charlotte an anthropologist, and Frank a drunk. Abaddon says that to be fair, Frank is a competent pilot and that all of the team members were chosen for specific reasons. Naomi questions what to do if she finds survivors of Flight A15, but Abaddon is adamant that there were no survivors. Why would Naomi assume that she was going to encounter survivors of Flight A15, especially when we've seen the footage that they're all dead, or was this taking place before the flight the footage was found? The other thing is that this could also be why Abaddon was so adamant in the flash forwards about if there were more survivors. So there's something else there that we don't know quite yet.
