SPEAKER_02

Hi, and welcome to today's episode of Sassin Sips. Today we're gonna talk about season five, episode twelve of Lost Dead is Dead.

SPEAKER_00

Unless.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah, unless you're on the island. I'm Lisa, and I am sipping on a mango margarita.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that sounds nice. I'm jelly jelly jelly. Well, I'm Agnes, and I'm sipping on the Sassin Sips drink. The what I name the Sassin Sips drink. Raspberry lemonade with tequila and frozen mangoes.

SPEAKER_02

I kind of wish I had that instead. I you know what? This mango mark. Yeah, this is the switch. Oh, here. Yeah, it's just not hitting the spot, right? No.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I'm sorry. No.

SPEAKER_02

It's good. It's just, yeah, I don't know. It's just maybe it's just not for me. Anyway.

SPEAKER_00

Try again tomorrow. Maybe the rate, maybe the the proportions is off a little bit. So try again tomorrow.

SPEAKER_02

There you go.

SPEAKER_00

Don't ever give up. A story about Ben. Is it really? I couldn't tell. Hot takes. Um. I don't think so. No. Nothing that pops up like, oh my god, I gotta talk about this. But no. Just regular quick comments and snocky side notes that I usually come up with.

SPEAKER_02

Okie dokie. Flashback to 1977. Charles Whidmore arrives at the other's camp on horseback. After a short exchange with Richard Albert, he enters a tent in which young Ben, who's still recovering from his gunshot wound, is staying. As they chat, it becomes clear that Ben does not recall how he was injured. Woodmore tells Ben that they will send him back to live with the Dharma Initiative soon, but he assures Ben that he can still be one of the others. 1988. Ben and a young Ethan stand outside a camp watching a tent. Ethan attempts to convince Ben to let him take charge, but Ben tells Ethan to be quiet and enters the camp alone. Inside the tent is a sleeping Danielle Rousseau. And in case you weren't sure, you know by the baby crying, they gave you the music box.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because I really couldn't tell. But music boss did it all for me.

SPEAKER_02

Ben lifts his gun to kill her, but her baby awakens and begins crying. Ben knocks over the music box. Rousseau questions Ben about what she's do about what he's doing there and assumes that he is a carrier for the infection. Instead, Ben is like, I'm just gonna take your baby. He's like, I take the baby and don't move. He tells her that the child will be safe with them and that she should consider herself lucky to be left alive. He then tells her that every time she hears whispers, she's to run the other way. And then he leaves the tent and the beach with the baby and Ethan. Upon his return to camp, he is angrily confronted by an aging Charles Whidmore, who demands to know why Ben is holding a baby. Cause the baby can't walk, obviously.

SPEAKER_00

Hello, duh.

SPEAKER_02

Ben is angered that Widmore had not informed him of the baby prior to his accepting the mission. Ben says Rousseau poses no threat, but Whidmore demands that Ben kill the baby. He says it's the will of Jacob. Ben refuses and instead proposes that if it were indeed the will of the island, Woodmore should be able to do it instead. Scoffing, Whidmore turns his back and leaves Ben holding the baby.

SPEAKER_00

I have a question.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

Actually, no, I don't have a question because I actually got the answer towards the end of the episode, so I don't have a question anymore.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Alright. That was fast. That was easy. Yeah. 1992 or later. At the barracks, Ben is pushing a young Alex on the swing set when he's approached by Richard. Richard informs him that the sub is about to leave, but that Ben does not need to see his passengers off if he does not want to. Ben feels the need to. However, he goes to the dock. Actually, wait. He goes to the dock where Whidmore is in restraints and being led by armed guards to the sub. Ben speaks to Woodmore, who feels Ben has come to gloat about his victory in having Widmore exiled. Woodmore has been exiled for breaking the rules, namely for regularly leaving the island and for having a family off the island, specifically a daughter with an outsider. Woodmore scornfully tells Ben that he will have to one day choose between Alex and the island. He is then led to the submarine and exiled. As he approaches to do so, he is met by an arriving Desmond unloading groceries. When he asks Ben what he's doing there, Ben shoots him in the chest, causing him to fall to the ground. Ben then continues to the boat where he holds Penny at gunpoint, telling her that her father killed his daughter. Penny maintains that she's no relationship with her father. But as Ben prepares to shoot her, he sees Ben Penny and Desmond's son, Charlie. He lowers his gun but is tackled and severely beaten by Desmond, who then uses both arms to lift and throw his ass off the dock and into the water. Also 2007, on the island, Ben wakes to find Locke sitting over him. He's surprised that Locke is alive, but tells Locke that he expected this. He also tells Locke that he broke the rules and has to face the consequences which will result which will result in being judged by the monster. Ben then travels out to the beach where several survivors, including Bram and Ilana, are trying to transport a crate filled with what they call necessaries, necessary supplies. What do you think is in the crate?

SPEAKER_00

Stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Um did you just say stuff?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Because my daughter does that to me all the time. Stuff. I'm like, what are you doing? She's like stuff. I'm like the fuck. Um I don't know. And I this is another example of how I don't try to figure shit out with Lost. This is gonna give me a migraine. But I gotta tell you, this is the beginning of me getting like I don't the um the group, like what I what do I call them? Oh, uh something 2.0. Yeah, Losty 2.0. I'm not feeling them. No, I'm not feeling them. I'm like, this gives me bad vibes. Um, not at all. And I don't like the fact that she's standing over them, watching them as they do work. It was I don't remember even I don't remember any like the original Losties, Losty's 1.0. There was never that sense of you know, everyone pitched in, everyone did something. Well, she was just she was just a prima donna, but but she also didn't bark orders, right? She was just a prima donna, and you're like, okay, fine.

SPEAKER_02

Well, except to her brother, but that doesn't count.

SPEAKER_00

But um, yeah, the sense of dictatorship, I'm watching you work, that uh-uh, bitch. We got problems, but yeah, I did, I guess I did have some hot takes.

SPEAKER_02

Who knew? Ben speaks to Caesar about Locke, telling him that he doesn't he doesn't believe Locke was on the plane. Ben feigns ignorance when Caesar informs him that Locke believes that Ben killed him, saying that but he's alive and he must be insane and dangerous. That's the ticket. Caesar then tells Ben that he has his back and shows him the shotgun he had taken from Ben's office earlier. Hey, look at this. Wow, I've never seen that before in my life. I know, it's like a little kid. Motherfucker, you took that from my office. You didn't see the pictures of me in there? You saw the gun, you didn't see pictures?

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god, same. Same. I'm just like, hey, you look like the guy in the picture in that office. I know, I just like okay, you're just stupid.

SPEAKER_02

And um I know that would have been the honestly, like I would have been looking in the drawers, but if there's pictures, I'm looking at them. And I feel like this Especially when you land at a mysterious place, like, who's here?

SPEAKER_00

Who should I be looking out for? Right. And this makes I know why he did what he did later on the episode because I would have done the same thing right then and there because he's so stupid. Okay, go ahead. I'm so evil. I think I would have been like, I don't know. I I think I could Ben and I could have been, I don't want to say good partners because you can't trust him, but I I understand him. I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

SPEAKER_02

Later at the Hydra office, Ben browses the desk for something when he finds a picture of himself and Alex. He opens the frame and puts the photo in his pocket just as Loc enters the room. Loc wants to talk to Ben about the fact that he killed him. Ben replies that it was the only way to bring him back, as well as the rest of them, and that he had vital information. Because he's like, But if you're gonna kill me, why'd you stop? Like, why'd you stop me? And he's like, Well, because you have vital information. And then he's like, you know, and it just would have taken too long to convince you to kill yourself again.

SPEAKER_00

So that actually that literally had me laughing out loud. Like, I actually yeah, my neighbors probably like, um, fuck, he lives alone. What the hell is she talking? Like, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Locke says that he wants an apology, but he goes off on his own and offers to help Ben. Oh, wait. But goes on and offers his help to Ben, who has to face the monster. Ben and Locke want to take one of the outriggers so that they can go to the main island in order for Ben to be, quote, judged by the monster. However, Caesar and the other survivors appear and they're like, where do you think you're going? Caesar asserts his position as the leader and forbids the two to use the outriggers to go anywhere. He's like, Um, you don't own this place. Step aside.

SPEAKER_00

Mo, bitch. They really should have like DMX playing on some of these episodes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. That would actually be still good. Um, Locke refuses to listen, and Caesar attempts to draw his shotgun, but it's not there. Ben is like, uh-uh, motherfucker. Ben turned into like Sam Jackson at that moment. All he needed was a well-placed motherfucker. And he shoots Caesar in the chest. He deserved.

SPEAKER_00

He was just stupid.

unknown

He deserved.

SPEAKER_02

And then he tells the other three, he's like, you guys go away. Big on, little motherfuckers. Ben gives him the been Ben gives John the shotgun, and he's like, considering this an apology. John is first of all, he's like, what the fuck? And he's like, Yeah, he was gonna do that to you. You're welcome.

SPEAKER_00

Like, I I don't care. I like Ben. Even when he does some stupid shit, you're like, he does something like underhanded, you're like, but that's Ben.

SPEAKER_02

Ben is like a well-behaved toddler, you know, like sociopathic toddler. Well, because they just do what they want anyway, and they always have rationality for it, even when it doesn't make sense, except usually that their emotions are crazy, and Ben is just very maintained.

SPEAKER_00

You know what? I co-sign that, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You know, but except with murder, you know.

SPEAKER_00

I mean because toddlers usually don't commit murder, even the sociopathic ones, usually, only because they can't physically do it, not that they've desired.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you know, just but you know it's hard to get a permit for a gun. Unless you're in the Midwest. It's hard to get one in the black market when you can't talk. Yeah, I mean, that's the only reason it's just about you know or take the train.

SPEAKER_00

Once it's able to, you know, do these things on their own, then it's a different story. We've all seen the good sun. Okay. You haven't seen the good sun?

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_02

Next. Upon arrival, they arrest for a bowman at the dock. Locke puts on Christian Shepherd's shoes before stepping on the island. He tells Ben that he believes Ben is only seeking forgiveness for the death of Alex. Ben neither confirms nor denies this.

SPEAKER_00

But he does in the look in his face.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. They travel onto the barracks where they see a silhouetted shadow pacing in the window of Alex's old room. Upon investigation, it's sun. And Frank's there too. That was not a that wasn't much of a surprise. I know we knew well to them. We already knew that.

SPEAKER_00

But how many, I wonder how many people watching are like, well, what's going on? I was wondering.

SPEAKER_02

I wonder, like, doing airing did any Well, I guess it I guess maybe, just maybe, you're not supposed to confirm or know for sure that remember the other people went back to 1977. So I guess it's not impossible that Sun and Oh no, no.

SPEAKER_00

We know, but Ben knows that, right?

SPEAKER_02

Because they were already together.

SPEAKER_00

Because Ben's because Son knocked him in the face of the ore, knocked him in the face of the ore.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, yeah. I think I just I think I had too much to drink. I forgot. Like I think you didn't have enough to drink. Yeah, and they said they were going to the main island. Mm-hmm. Ben is just in there.

SPEAKER_00

And then when Locke said, hey, somewhere else is here, he's like, Yeah, son and Frank. Oh when they pull the boat up. Right.

SPEAKER_02

Right. They said Yeah, that's even dumber now. I just thought it was dumb because I saw it, but no, it's it's still dumb. Okay. They tell Ben that a man named Christian told him to wait here for John Locke. Son is like, son and Frank, they're like, well, you know, like, whatever, but it's ridiculous, but whatever. And Ben is like, well, you might want to look outside. Like, you know that dead guy you're supposed to be waiting for. Yeah, he's not dead. He's outside waiting for you. Son shows Ben the photo of the Dharma recruits of 1977. And actually, she's surprised that he he doesn't know that the friends were there. But remember, it's a little bit of a mind fuck because when they landed on the island in 1977. Well, no, no, when they landed on the island in 2004, they hadn't yet been part of the Dharma initiative. So that picture couldn't be there.

SPEAKER_00

Correct. So Exactly. So them going back into time. Like Miles' theory on time travel is wrong in a sense that it's you can't change it, but then you're not changing it.

SPEAKER_02

You're not changing it because the picture it wasn't like the picture was there and then they were but the picture wasn't there and then all of a sudden it was there.

SPEAKER_00

Like history changed.

SPEAKER_02

But did it because this could always be what was supposed to happen.

SPEAKER_00

I need alcohol now.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. That's what I'm saying. It's like kind of like a mind fuck because they're not changing it.

SPEAKER_00

It just didn't happen yet, but it was going to happen. It was meant to happen regardless. They didn't know it was going to happen, but it actually did happen, but they didn't it didn't it it happened, but it didn't happen until later on when they got back to make it happen.

SPEAKER_02

Something like that.

SPEAKER_00

I'm just gonna say that it makes sense. That actually makes sense though.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, kind of for you, especially.

SPEAKER_00

You're the one who's trying to make it make sense to me, and now that I make it make sense, you think I don't know this makes sense. Frank warns about Frank warns.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Frank warns son about listening to a dead man and a murderer.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, what the fuck are you doing? I'm trying not to look at you. I gotta stop laughing until I looked at the camera and saw you like hiding your eyes. You just fucked it up from me now.

SPEAKER_02

Look away. Um son asserts that she would follow them if there's a chance that Jen is still alive. So Ben retreats to his secret room, hidden in his closet. Ben is in the closet.

SPEAKER_01

Don't we all have secret rooms in our closet though? Obviously.

SPEAKER_02

I know, I love he goes down the tunnel, like the tunnel that we talked about, having between our houses. Yes, yes. I was like, that's it. That's what I want. Where he drains a pool of muddy water in an attempt to summon the monster. And he actually like flushing a toilet. Could you imagine if you summon the monster every time you flush a toilet?

SPEAKER_00

Well, if you have a bad sewer system, you kind of do. Good point. But then he talks to it, which kind of was like, I'd be outside waiting. You're like, okay.

SPEAKER_02

He says aloud, almost as an afterthought, I'll be outside. He then goes outside to wait with Sun. Sun says that Jack probably lied about John's death to could to convince him to return to the island. But Ben is like, no, yeah, he was really dead, but don't ask me how I know that. And he's like, but I had no idea the island could perform such a miracle. At this point, you're like, come on, John, did you know? Did you not know? Like, who knows what's the truth? You mean Ben? Oh, yes, Ben, sorry. And Frank is like, you know what? Fuck you guys. I'm going home. And he's like, I'm not, I'm not going anywhere with Ben. Son, you want to come with me? Oh, you don't you you want to stay with him? Yeah, I ain't doing that. Bye. Peace out, bitches. So he goes, he goes back to Hydra. In the meantime, the monster does not appear. But Loc is like, that's okay. We'll just go to the monster. And Ben is like, I don't know where the monster is. But Loc is like, but I do. Ben don't like this. Mm-mm. So Ben and Sun follow Loc to the temple walls. And Locke is like, we're not going in. We're going under. How do you think Locke knew?

SPEAKER_00

Because he was he was the chosen one.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Lost not lost Island logic.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Before Ben goes, he tells Sun that if she might leave the island to find Desmond and tell him that he's sorry. When Sun asks for what, Ben's like, he'll know what I'm talking about. Because also that seat was before you see him shoot him.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_02

So you're like, oh my god, did he kill Penny? You bastard. Sorry. You know what South Park?

SPEAKER_00

Very infrequently. Okay, like first came out 40 years ago. I'm over-exaggerate. I did, but happened.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, they kill Kenny. You bastard.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's every episode, isn't it? Right. They always kill Kenny. Every episode. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Except for like, I think one, and then at the end they're like, something is something is wrong here. And you see Kenny like, okay, anyway. Um Whatever. Meanwhile, Frank arrives back at Hydra and he is soon approached by Jed. These people fucking have names. Who warn him that Ilana and a few others have weapons? Frank, who is cautious, that's because Frank has written the subway, walks into camp where he is suddenly held at gunpoint by Ilana and Bram. Not that cautious, huh? What'd you do? Go to the Bronx. Umana asks him, what lies in the shadow of the statue? Frank is like, what the fuck are you talking about? But Frank is unable to answer the question and she knocks him out with the butt of her gun. She tells Bram to get everyone else and tell them it's time. And tie up Frank because he's coming with them.

SPEAKER_00

Fucking psychos.

SPEAKER_02

I know.

SPEAKER_00

It's like Lord of the Flies over there. But they would they're on the island for what? Five days, five minutes before they lost their fucking minds.

SPEAKER_01

I know. I don't even think it could be more than one day.

SPEAKER_00

I mean it's still like the same day. Same day. And then like the other episode, like that lost these 1.0. Like there was death. There was like they would have all this shit happening on the same day, and they managed to keep their shit together. These people got me all the way fucked up.

SPEAKER_02

I know. Once underground, Locke and Ben light torches. Ben tells Locke that he believes that Locke's reasoning was right and that he is seeking penance for Alex's death. Ben then falls through a hole in the floor, because it like gives way. And Locke is like, Don't worry, I'll get I'll get something to help you back up. Ben is like, no, but John is like, I'm ignoring you. Ben continues moving, looking at the columns covered in the hieroglyphs, pausing to observe a stone panel covered in Egyptian style carvings, which depict the monster and a jackal headed figure, possibly the Egyptian deity Anubis, and they're facing each other. Below the carving is a stone grate angled upwards. Then hears the trademark noises of the monster, the sound effects.

SPEAKER_00

Very good at it.

SPEAKER_02

And witnesses it rise out of the grate right in front of him. The monster then surrounds Bound. What? The monster surround.

SPEAKER_00

It's like you said Bound sounds, men and sounds.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I don't even know. Because the next word was with an S. The monster surrounds Ben, swirling about him. He's faced with memories of Alex and Widmore, including Alex's death at the hands of Kimi. After showing these visions to Ben, the monster abates, followed by the appearance, moments later, of Alex. He apologizes to her, admitting fault in everything, which she acknowledges. She then pins him up against the wall and is like, um, I know that you're planning to kill Locke again, but you just really need to follow him and do whatever he says. Otherwise, I'm gonna destroy you. And Ben is like, okay, cool deal. She disappears, and then Locke ends up coming back to the hole and lowers a vine to pull him up. And Ben is like, he let me live.

SPEAKER_00

Love the facial expression.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That was good acting, Lisa.

SPEAKER_02

Thanks. But that's it for the episode. When they go into Ben's house, you see the Risk game, right? I think it was Risk that they were playing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

From like the last time that they were in there when the whole showdown with Kimi happened. Right. Mm-hmm. Australia's the key of it all. It says there's a deleted scene from I Do that's shown during the scene in which Ben is being judged from the monster. And the scene is Alex getting into an argument with Ben over Carl, and resulting in Alex saying, I hate your guts. That's cool. Alex is like, you know, like, oh, let's use it here. It's also cool the way they did the beginning of this episode as a flashback, but that it's picking up from where the last episode left off. So that was cool.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

This episode had 8.56 million viewers. This is the lowest rated episode. 8.5 million?

SPEAKER_00

Damn it. Horrible, horrible numbers. Let's talk as them.

SPEAKER_02

This episode had 14.91 million fewer viewers. Oh shit. Than Man of Science, Man of Faith, which was the highest-rated episode.

SPEAKER_00

My god, that's a huge difference. Okay. Question. When was this episode? When did this episode air? The date? Yes. Let me find out. Because I have to find out why.

SPEAKER_02

April 8th, 2009. Yeah, I think just, you know, people just weren't as invested. Like as opposed to like, you know, season two kind of premiere. You know? What do you think Alana is up to?

SPEAKER_00

I think she works for Dharma. No, I don't know what the fuck is going on. Um, she's obviously gonna, I think, I don't know if it's obvious, but I think she's a bounty. I think she's a bounty hunter. I'm surprised. And it's funny how I actually like as the seasons go on, I like it better. And apparently people lost interest.

SPEAKER_02

That's my guess. Because I don't really remember like there was anything going on. There wasn't like this wasn't like um like a like after a break or anything like that.

SPEAKER_01

So I am like sure why when was it again?

SPEAKER_00

200 what nine. Okay, here's another question. So TiVo and like the extra, like that, like that extra DVR thing came out like 10 years before. Here's a question. When did the cable companies automatically give you DVR?

SPEAKER_02

Before that.

SPEAKER_00

It did? I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

No, I know because I remember the apartment that I was living in when the DVR first came out.

SPEAKER_00

Onto the actual cave, like your part of your subscription.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And I didn't have kids yet.

SPEAKER_00

Oh shit.

SPEAKER_02

Um because I remember that when like shortly after I found out I was pregnant with Nelinda, is when we moved out of that apartment. And then 2009 was even after Maris is born. So we were already living. Okay, I'm trying to think when did it be places past that?

SPEAKER_00

I'm trying to like, when did it become easier to DVR? Yeah, no, it's not. No, okay, then I don't know. Then I really don't know then. Because I did yeah, I'm sorry. I was trying to figure it out, but I like to figure out the whys behind things, it makes me happy. Not I can understand it, not that I want to people don't understand. Like I'm asking questions, I'm not asking to argue. I'm like, well, how does this work? Oh, that's how it works. Cool, thank you. Because I, if I know how something works or why we do something, I can better retain it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, right.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, what else happened with this episode?

SPEAKER_02

Ben doesn't shoot Rousseau when he sees her child. He also doesn't shoot Penny later on when he sees her child.

SPEAKER_00

So he's not a horrible, horrible person, just a horrible person.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Okay, cool. I mean, you know, he stole the baby. But at least he and he and then the other kid, he shot his father.

SPEAKER_00

And he ended up trying. He ended up doing something to get the baby killed, though, 16 years later. So I mean, but anyhow.

SPEAKER_02

Ben attempts to convince Caesar that Locke was not on the plane and is an island native. But in the past, he intended he attempted to convince Locke that he was not an island inhabitant.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. How funny.

SPEAKER_01

Oh how the tables have turned.

SPEAKER_02

Desmond and Penny's boat is named Our Mutual Friend. And if you remember, Desmond had this book and he wanted it to be the last book he read before he dies.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. I just need to know does Penny and Desmond go on to live a happy life? You're not gonna tell me. Okay, fine.

SPEAKER_02

That will do it, though, for this episode. You have anything else before we wrap up?

SPEAKER_00

I think not. Which means it's probably something that's don't remember.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I want botox.

SPEAKER_02

The next episode is called Some Like It Huff. Huff is a planet in Star Wars.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, come like cold planet.

SPEAKER_02

Like the kind of planet I would wear this stupid boot with. That's what it is. It's funny because it's literally what it reminds me of is something that Luke Skylar wore.

SPEAKER_00

Pluto's some like it huff. Is a play on word hot, but huff is cold. So yeah, very lost-ish.

SPEAKER_02

You want to watch Star Wars as a bonus in between?

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely not.

SPEAKER_02

Okie dokie. That will do it for this episode. Visit assassinsips.com. Oh, I know. For those of you who do like Star Wars, text us, use the text us feature in our episode, and text us which of the movies is your favorite. And also when you watch, do you watch chronological from when they were released, or do you watch numerically one through nine? I want to know like how you guys watch and which one is your favorite movie.

SPEAKER_01

Don't drink and drive, drink responsibly, and until next time, I'm Lisa. And I'm Agnes. And we are out of here. See you later. Bye.
