SPEAKER_02

Hey guys, welcome to this episode of Sassin Sips, where every week we discuss and dissect another episode of Lost in Order.

SPEAKER_01

As opposed to not in order.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. While we drink. We are your hosts. I'm Lisa.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm Agnes.

SPEAKER_02

And today's episode is D O C. And what are you drinking today?

SPEAKER_01

I'm keeping it classy with a good old-fashioned Stella.

SPEAKER_02

Nice. Yeah, I have some red wine. I found another bottle here last night. So I'm surprised that there's even half a bottle left. But yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So I love when you find alcohol in the house. You're like, oh, I didn't know that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. We well, okay. So when Alex had his party, I I at the end of the night it started to rain just a little bit. So we just rushed and brought everything in as fast as we could because you know we didn't know if it was gonna rain harder. So he had all this alcohol out, and then people brought him bottles. So he he had bought wine for that day, and then people brought stuff. So then there was so much, and we just kind of like put it all on the floor under the window because his friend was just passing me stuff through the window. So I just put it all together on the floor under the window, and it's like we don't really use that room so much. So Alex went in there yesterday to get something for himself, and he's like, you know, that there's another bottle here. I was like, Well, not for long, thanks, buddy. So yeah. Anything you want to say about this episode before we jump in?

SPEAKER_01

No, I'm ready.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, before we jump in, I actually want to say thank you to everyone who accepted our challenge. So thank you. And now for the episode. Now to your regularly scheduled programming. Stupid, what do you want? DOC. Did you have did did you know what DOC stood for before you watched it? What were your guesses? I didn't. This is gonna be funny. Come on. No, I didn't think I thought you were gonna say it was like dead on command or something.

SPEAKER_01

I didn't really think about it, honestly. I was like, I didn't say this guy, but I did think it was like dead, uh-huh. I did death was something I thought was on there, and then I was as we get into the episode, I'm like, uh oh, that makes sense.

SPEAKER_02

Although this episode really could have been called catch 22, also.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So and flashback. The new Mrs. Kwan is in Seoul talking on the phone to Jin about getting used to her new name. She sits down on a bench and an older woman next to her strikes up a conversation, but really she just wants cash money. She tells Sun she knows all about Jin's family and that she wants a hundred grand or she'll reveal the truth. Later, at their apartment, Sun asks Jin about his parents, and he gets all pissy and tells her to eat her soup. So being the badass that Sun is, she tracks down the Korean Sam Waterston, I mean Mr. Kwan, all on her own. Mr. Kwan, who may possibly be the best dad on the whole show, knows exactly, right, knows exactly who Sun is and invites her in for tea. He confirms that Jin's mom went with many men and that she abandoned him. He raised Jin even though he was unsure if he was the father because they didn't have Maury or paternity test Tuesday there. He asks Sun not to tell Jin that she was there or that his mother is still alive in order to spare him the shame. Sun goes to her dad's office to ask for the extortion money. When he hesitates, she calls him on his not so ethical business model, but he still refuses. Sun eventually admits that she needs the money to protect someone from embarrassment and he concedes. However, he tells her that since it's for Jin, he will have to repay the debt, and now we know that it's actually all Sun's fault that Jin became the man he became.

SPEAKER_01

To be fair, I'm not convinced he didn't know to begin with. He and I'm sure the father did his research on Jin to begin with. So I don't think it's son's fault, it was just opportunity.

SPEAKER_02

It's son's fault because she went to him for the money. He was gonna do it anyway.

SPEAKER_01

Like in no reason, I think he was going, he he it just happened to be this opportunity, but he was gonna do it anyway. Let's be real.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Sun takes the cash and bounces back at the apartment again. Jin finds the money, but Sun lies and tells him it's from her dad for furniture and a honeymoon. Jin wants her to return it because he's her man and he can provide for her. Just so long as she's patient because he's still broke. And Sun agrees. In the last flashback, Sun meets with the blackmailer, aka Jin's Ho Mama, and gives her the money. She asks why she didn't tell her who she was. Ho Mama says she may have given birth to him, but that doesn't make her his mother. But before concluding their business, Sun threatens to fucking kill her, you know, but politely, and walks away with her head held high. Why are you looking at me like that? At least laugh, like for the audience.

SPEAKER_00

I because part of it of like, wait, did she just say, yeah, she just said that. Like, wait, I'm so used to the I know you needed something like, you know.

SPEAKER_01

I'm getting the Lisa um notes on it. I'm liking it, but I'm like, whoa!

SPEAKER_02

I I needed to try something different.

SPEAKER_01

Sometimes those synopsis are so like blah blah blah blah blah blah like Charlie Brown's the adult and Charlie Brown.

SPEAKER_02

Back on the island, present day. Sun is working in her garden when she hears footsteps. And what could have been another scary scene turns out only to be Jack who wants to ask 101 questions about her pregnancy. Sun is suspicious, so she talks to Kate about Jack's loyalties. Kate tells her about how Juliet is a fertility doctor and wanted Claire's baby for research. Sun runs right to Juliet to confront her, demanding to know what happens to pregnant women on the island. Juliet finally caves and tells her that every pregnant woman on the island has died.

SPEAKER_01

Dun dun dun.

SPEAKER_02

While still dark, Juliet creeps into Sun's tent and offers to help her. The way everyone offers to help, with a hands over the mouth to prevent screaming. They make their way to the staff hatch while Juliet explains that if Sun conceived off the island, then she'll probably be fine. But if she conceived on the island, then you know, bye-bye son. She'll do an ultrasound to check for DOC, otherwise known as Date of Perception.

SPEAKER_01

Date of Perception.

SPEAKER_02

And Sun mentions that Kate told her about this place, but it was cleared out, and Juliet says she just didn't know where to look. They head in, and Sun begins telling Juliet all about her dirty little secret, a aka J Lee. And Sun asks her why she is helping. And Juliet gives some sappy story about just wanting to give good news. She has lost nine patients in three years.

SPEAKER_01

Bullshit.

SPEAKER_02

You don't think that she was that there was some element of the truth in that whole good news thing?

SPEAKER_01

All good listen, all good cons have some truth in it. Doesn't mean they're not a con. Doesn't mean she's not full of shit. And you know what that look she gives people, like that con, what are you gonna do about it? Look, like she get, I just want to be, I just want to smash her face into a tree. Like, bitch, because that's like the ultimate fuck you, what you got, but it's without saying it. I'll show you. Here we go. Like, I can't stand her.

SPEAKER_02

As they head into the secret room behind the locker room, Sun asks why it's hidden, and Juliet admits it's where they brought the women to die. Sun spills more personal information to this questionable stranger and tells her about Jin's infertility. Juliet tells her that sperm counts are generally five times higher on the island. During the ultrasound, Juliet explains that they crashed 86 days ago and the baby was conceived 53 days ago. Sun starts crying, and Juliette apologizes and promises to do everything she can to help, but Sun is actually happy because the baby belongs to Jin. As they are leaving, Juliet makes an excuse to head back in and leaves a message for Ben on a voice recorder. She informs him about Sun and that she's collecting samples on the other female survivors, including Kate. After stopping the tape, she also adds, I hate you. SPEAKER_00

In the jungle, the fighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

The mystery woman has a branch sticking out of her side. She speaks phrases in different languages, and then in Italian and Spanish says, She's dying. Desmond wants to get Jack, but Charlie is the voice of reason and reminds him that it's about to be dark and also, you know, an eight-hour walk. Desmond says he'll run and argues that no one knows they're here, but Hurley solves that by firing a flare gun. Shortly after, Mikhail, freshly back from the dead, comes running out of the jungle. Did you expect to see him again?

SPEAKER_01

No. I was like, what the fuck, dude? But this is the eyeless. I wasn't surprised. I wasn't expected, but I wasn't surprised. I'm like, okay.

SPEAKER_02

After a pause, Mikhail turns and runs, but Jin goes after him. Charlie realizes who he is and explains to the group. They return to the woman, and Mikhail explains he was a field medic for the Soviet army and offers to help her in exchange for release. Desmond accepts. Mikhail is so funny. He's like, I already died once this week. Like, come on.

SPEAKER_01

That's that in itself was kind of like, what the that made me be like, what the fuck happened? First I was like, oh, you're back. Okay, great. And then him making a joke of it made me be like, Really, what the fuck did happen?

SPEAKER_02

Mikhail treats the wound and says it will heal in a day. Charlie remarks that it was a pierced lung and that it's not likely to heal so soon. Mikhail smirks and explains that the island heals differently, but then concedes that it might take a day and a half. The woman mutters something in Portuguese and Mikhail translates as, Thank you for helping me. After she's treated, Mikhail leaves and Jin goes after him again. He recaptures him and takes the satellite phone that Mikhail stole, reminding us once again not to fuck with Jin Su Quan. While the others make a stretcher, Hurley sits with the woman. She wakes up and asks where she is. Hurley explains about the crash and the woman is shocked. She then explains that they found the plane and that there were no survivors. They were all dead.

SPEAKER_01

Told you either A, they're already dead and this is purgatory. Or two, back to my think my like two or three episodes ago with parallel universe shit. So they are dead, but they're not dead. Boom. I'm too sober for this shit.

SPEAKER_02

I knew you were gonna say that. So predictable. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

I know. What can I say? Nothing about this show is predictable. I'm being steady, Eddie.

SPEAKER_02

Are you ready for trivia? Trivia, yeah. Trivia, yeah, trivia, yeah. This is the last episode that is centric solely to sun. The last the last one that's centric solely to sun. Is she gonna die? Next. Juliet claims that the baby was conceived 53 days ago. That puts conception right before Jin stops speaking to Sun for knowing English.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

When Sun enters her father's office, she overhears him arguing with his employees. The translation is employees, we haven't received the forged conveyance permit yet, Mr. Chairman. Mr. Pike, I heard the Hansel Foundation is filled with anger at the fact that our side didn't offer the equipment. So it's really only two lines, but the fact that Mr. Pike is talking about the Hansel Foundation, and that's the same thing that we saw on the um those tapes from the hatches. Remember? Yes, the de Groots and the Hansel Foundation. So now we know that there's some kind of connection. Mikhail translates the woman's Portuguese as thank you for helping me.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think that was it because I'm like, I know Portuguese is not, it's still a romance language. So I mean not Spanish, not Italian, but it's still a romance language. And I'm like, I know thank you in Russian, I know thank you in Italian, I know it in Spanish, and what she said sounded nothing like thank you.

SPEAKER_02

So what she actually says is I am not alone.

SPEAKER_01

Oh I'm here with you.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, no. Okay, so I want to hear your thoughts on this episode.

SPEAKER_01

Um it was okay an episode. I mean, okay. I enjoyed the episode on its own. It was okay episode, and it did prove my point. It possibly proved two points of mine.

SPEAKER_02

It doesn't prove anything.

SPEAKER_01

But goes, it proves either it's either there is purgatory or it's a parallel universe where they're dead and they're both and they're not dead.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Really? I can't wait till next week, then. Oh yeah, right.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. I'm my head will be all fucked up. By the end of this, I'm gonna be somewhere like in a padded room. And you guys have Lisa to thank for that.

SPEAKER_02

I'll come visit, no worries. So the old overall, right? There were there was themes like Sun was blackmailed by Jin's mother.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, well, I knew that was his mother. I knew that was his mother. Yeah. So when she sat down next to her, like and she started talking. I'm like, and his mother was a present too. I'm like, oh, your mama. Okay. Whole mama. The whole mama.

SPEAKER_02

So son was blackmailed by his mom, but then she goes and blackmails her dad.

SPEAKER_01

Is it really blackmail? Because she's already think about it.

SPEAKER_02

Well, she threw and she told him like she was just gonna like you know, kind of stay quiet about his.

SPEAKER_01

I'm already like I'm doing what I'm doing anyway. And if I happen to say something, I mean it's just I don't know, is it really blackmail?

SPEAKER_02

And now Sun's um Jin's mother said basically that she gave birth to him, but that doesn't really make her a mother, and that the father didn't know if that was even his kid. But he was a father, and then you have son who didn't know whose baby her baby was.

SPEAKER_01

Ah, that's funny.

SPEAKER_02

So, you know, just another little connection, and not to mention this mystery woman who is clearly not Penny, but is there for Desmond, she's not alone.

SPEAKER_01

I won't sing.

SPEAKER_02

And didn't you think that it was just a little too convenient that a flare goes off and Mikhail comes running?

SPEAKER_01

Um, you know what the funny thing is? I didn't even connect the flare with Mikai running because he looked like he found them by accident. I just I felt like the look on his face. Possibly. So I didn't even connect the two.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I could just be making shit up.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I could have been he thought it was somebody else. Like he saw the flare, he might have thought it was one of his people. Um, but like I really don't think he meant to run into them. I think that was complete coincidence.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, he did look shocked to see them.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I thought was that was probably the funniest thing the whole episode. Okay, I would have stood there, stuck on stupid. It was like, okay, it wasn't what the fuck we do. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. So I mean, obviously, DOC refers to date of conception, one of the more boring episode titles. But I think, I mean, really, there's this, there's like a lot, but there really isn't in this episode.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, it's a straight, it's it's pretty much what you see is what you see.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. That I think then the next episode, we're really gonna have a lot to to dive into. So I'm actually excited. It better be.

SPEAKER_01

Don't leave, don't leave me like wanting and panting, and then I'm like, oh, okay.

SPEAKER_02

Well, number one, it's a lock episode. Hi, Locke, and number two, we're about to have like a rumble in the jungle.

SPEAKER_00

So let's get rid of rumble.

SPEAKER_01

Hi, Terry.

SPEAKER_02

So I apologize if we're missing anything, but I think we're just gonna wrap this one up so that we can start getting ready for the next one.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. I guess I gotta turn my TV on.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Um, and until next time, next week's episode is The Brig. Focuses in on Locke, on Mr. Locke. And okay, so next week's The Brig. We'll see you. Ha ha ha. Hear you, you hear us. I don't know what I'm saying. Okay, meet us back here next time for the brig. Please, like, please, at this rate, and another challenge that we want to issue you is to make sure you go ahead and like our Facebook page. We have a Facebook page and a Facebook group. Until next time, please don't drink and drive.

SPEAKER_01

At all. No. Period. No.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm Lisa. And I'm Agnes. And we are out of here.

SPEAKER_01

Peace. See you later. Bye.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god. That was like record time.

SPEAKER_01

Imagine what we can do.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, can I tell you something really odd that happened to me?

SPEAKER_01

Something odd, normally odd, or something abnormally odd that happened to you. Because you know, you're Lisa.

SPEAKER_02

I'll just tell you what happened, and you you decide. My sister gets a message on Facebook from somebody that she doesn't know saying that my dad has a package at the old address in Brooklyn where we used to live. Now it's been 15 years since my dad has lived there. The package is from my uncle, who is his brother. So it's like what? You know, like my uncle sent my dad a package at an address that he lived at 15 years ago.

SPEAKER_01

You know, so my sister's I'm assuming your uncle knows his current address. Okay. So don't tell me anyone went over there to look for it.

SPEAKER_02

So my sister is like, is this real life? Like, what's going on? So I'm I look at her profile and I'm like, it's Don't look like anything shady. It looks like a real actual profile. And so she calls my dad and he's like, you know, your uncle did mention that he sent me something. So she starts talking to the lady, and the package had been there since January, which was when his birthday was. So I was like, you know what? Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I have a question. Okay, so the package got to her house. How did she end up messaging your sister? Because she googled. She googled my dad's name.

SPEAKER_02

And she couldn't get your dad your father didn't have no, he doesn't have a Facebook.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

And since our name is not popular, she was very easily able to find you know what I mean? Like it wasn't like, oh, this, you know, it's it's not like the last name was Smith that you're like, oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

I got another question. She just takes it to the post office and returned to Cinder.

SPEAKER_02

It's a it's a building. So the package had been sitting in the lobby, and finally she just decided, like, let me try to do something.

SPEAKER_01

But even if it is a building, but most people would say, I know, take it to the post office and return to Cinder. That's what anyone would do. Yeah. She's weird. But go ahead. I don't like this. But go ahead.

SPEAKER_02

She, you know, she tells my sister, like in the message, she's like, listen, I I did open the package because I I did think that it was the name, my uncle's name, there's somebody else in the building with that name.

SPEAKER_01

The first person. But it's still not her though.

SPEAKER_02

So but she like, okay. So listen, I get it. I get it.

SPEAKER_01

I know I know what you're trying to get to, but every time she says something, you're like, bitch, what happened?

SPEAKER_02

So, long story short, she explains everything to my sister, and my sister's like, Yeah, my dad used to live there, and whatever. So I thought I said, I'll go pick it up. You know, I'm really curious. Like, I I haven't been there since I lived there. And I'm not scared of this person. Fuck her.

SPEAKER_01

I must, I'm, I'm gonna have to re remind everybody like two seasons ago when Lisa was got stabbed returning a package.

SPEAKER_02

I'm just at here I am again picking up one.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, okay, go ahead, Lisa.

SPEAKER_02

So, not a problem. She says, What apartment? I say what day I'm coming, and I show up and she comes down, she brings out the package, and you know, she was just like, listen, like I she apologized for opening it. She's just like, I just didn't know whose it was, and I thought, you know, just whatever. I don't know. But I ended up talking to her for like an hour, and it's so strange, right? How things work out. I'm not gonna get into like the details on the podcast, but the reason that we had to leave that home was beyond our control, and it was hurtful, it was it was really, really hurtful. Like I was my father never thought that he was gonna leave that home, and it wasn't like it was some, you know, I mean, the ceiling was falling down, but it didn't matter because that was home, and and it was our shitty little home, and and that was it. And I I was really depressed for like a very long time in talking to her. She came to live there because of a similar situation, and I hadn't said anything, but as she's telling me how she ended up there, I was like, oh my god, I don't know if you would believe this, but that's why we left. It's so crazy. Like she has the same initials as me, and I'm in a in a weird way, like I feel like this is closure from the universe, and I'm happy that somebody lives there that is a good person. Like, she she does seem like a good person, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, and so I'm happy. I'm happy you found closure. I'm gonna keep my mouth shut.

SPEAKER_02

Go say what you want.

SPEAKER_01

It's everything just seems so sketchy to me. I'm sorry. I know, but like what was this seems so fucking sketchy. What just so what was the scam? No, I don't know because I exactly because I don't know how deep your conversation went. Do you don't understand how much I just don't, I don't know. What do you guys guys talk about? I'm not asking you to tell me, but I'm just like just think about how detailed your conversation went, and just think about like what could have been said. I don't know. Yeah, I just don't. There was just so many things she could have done that would have been normal, and it that and just several different things before, and it just seems really it just makes me feel uneasy.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I know, and and usually I'm like that skeptic too, but I never got that vibe. Okay and I think also, and I think also like you know, in this pandemic lifestyle, maybe she just needed something to do, you know. Maybe also fair enough, but I mean it just like I sp I was talking to her and it just seemed like we knew each other. I never got that that vibe, you know, where where I mean, and you know, you know me, like I had the pepper spray, I had the keys in my hand, I had my back right at the door. I mean, we're still a Brooklyn girl at the wind through. I didn't know who was gonna come down. Like I walk in the lobby and I could see the package, you know, in the lobby, and I'm just like waiting, like who the fuck is gonna come down? But when she came in, I was just like, oh dude, like we're good. Like, I don't it all kind of went away. I mean, I could be wrong, you know, of course, but no, but you could be right, like I wasn't there.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know, like I I I'm a strong proponent of vibes and feelings and instincts, so that is fair to say. Like, I I trust that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so I'm I'm I'm really happy that I went and like I feel good about it now, and I've never felt like that before.

SPEAKER_00

Yay, that's a good thing, yay!

SPEAKER_01

But isn't that strange how shit works out? It is kind of awkward that way. It's kind of like doo doo doo do do do do do do.

SPEAKER_02

I hadn't been back there since since you left. Since I left, and she and then it's funny because she was saying she asked me something, I don't I don't know what I said, but she was like, Oh, you lived here too, and I said, Yeah, we grew up here. I said, My dad lived here for 30 years. This this was home. You know, we we didn't we didn't really know any other place until we were adults, and and then we left, you know. She was like, Oh my gosh, she's like, I didn't even know that. She's like, I just thought maybe like he lived here. I didn't really think past that family, you know, just to get him back the package.

SPEAKER_01

She's like, I never really thought about the family and his life and what yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So she was like, Oh my gosh, she was like, This must be so surreal for you. I was like, It is. I was like, I haven't been here.

SPEAKER_01

So if someone gets me a package from my old apartment in Brooklyn, I'm I'm flying and moving back in, period. Like, I'm gonna move, I'm living, I'm moving back in. I'm so mad because my mother and I was talking about it not too long ago.

SPEAKER_00

So fucking mad.

SPEAKER_01

I could have still been in Brooklyn. There was a time where they're talking about having the building go condos, but they didn't get the vote because majority of the people that live in that building were roommates. And my apartment, oh, you've never been to I was never invited. It was one of the garden apartments. I probably wouldn't have been allowed anyway, but a lot of people, I just didn't think about it. Um, a lot of people didn't. So it's um, it was one of the garden apartments, and it was really priced, like at the time, it was priced right below the penthouses. They were, I think they were gonna sell it for like 125,000. Wow, even then, even 30 years ago, well, 25, 30 years ago, that still wasn't a lot, you know, considering. And it's if it would have got the votes, we wouldn't have had to move because it would have been paid for, and then the taxes we could have just she could have covered the taxes. And then now that apartment, I'm thinking, I was like looking at other apartments, not the garden, like like the regular smaller apartments inside. My garden apartment probably would have gone for almost 10 million now.

SPEAKER_02

Easily.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm like easily, and then I was like, but what my life would have been? Let's I think about what I think, you know what? I probably wouldn't have had CJ. Like, I don't think like my life would have been a lot different. Oh no, I still I mean it's just weird, it's just really, really, really weird.
