Stay away from my sister.
SPEAKER_03For a moment you seem to be giving me an almost just friendly suggestion. Suggestion? Yes. If I were you I'd listen. What if I don't?
SPEAKER_02Some fresh tracks down by the stream.
SPEAKER_03See you later. You know where to find me. You need to put aside your differences with side. He's hitting him, channel. Very competent. We don't want to make an enemy of him. We're gonna want him on our side. John, people are talking about what we're doing out here every day. Especially since we never come back with anything. You mean boar? Yeah. Plenty of fruit and fish to go around. What we're doing here is far more important.
SPEAKER_05Welcome to this week's episode of Sassin's Sips, where we will discuss the Hearts and Minds episode of Lost. I'm Lisa. And I'm Magnus. And we are your hosts. And we are your hosts. Every week we will be discussing and dissecting an episode of Lost in Order while we drink. What are you drinking, Katie?
SPEAKER_01I had some peach nectar. Don't ask. I have no idea. But I also had some patron. So I made a lid, a cockatail.
SPEAKER_05That sounds good. I have patron downstairs and I have mango nectar.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's a good idea. I have a bag in the freezer of like those smoothie starters. It's just frozen fruit. You know. I'm like, maybe I can make like a blended drink. And we'll just get it.
SPEAKER_05I'm gonna drink until summer gets here. Okay, so that's that's it. We have to just keep drinking summer drinks all throughout winter to try to lure summer.
SPEAKER_01Yes, like I said at last week's episode, if you drink it, it will come.
SPEAKER_05I have beer. I'm trying a new beer. It's a Guinness Blonde. I like the hard.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01So while I'm not a huge beer drinker, I like my beer, I like my particular, like two or three that I like my go-to. So I didn't know that I liked Guinness, that dog get I was and I had my daughter had some in the house. And I'm like, ooh, this is good, but it has to be ice cold. I don't think it's gonna taste that one. I didn't think I liked, I didn't think I would because like happy, like it's over. I'm like, eh, but this was pretty good. I don't like IPAs at all. I've tried different ones, I'm like, yeah, I can't just do it for me.
SPEAKER_05I'm not a big fan of that. And this one actually kind of tastes a little IPA-ish. Iish slightly. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And I don't understand how people, um, me personally, I can't get drunk off a beer because it leaves me so full before I can get drunk. Never mind. The look of her face says, Well, I can show you. Me personally. It leaves me too full before I can even get enough to get buzzed. That's like non-alcoholic alcohol, if that makes any kind of sense.
SPEAKER_05I drink and I munch. And for whatever reason, I just keep eating.
SPEAKER_01It's hard to be, especially like if you I'm at a bar, it's hard to drink and not munch. And it's hard to munch without drinking. Like you need it's they go hand in hand.
SPEAKER_05And I'd I'd love to be here munching, but nobody wants to hear that.
SPEAKER_01Little secret for the listeners. Sass and sips behind the scenes. I when I'm sitting here working with Lisa get the munchies. I don't know why. So often I will put my thing on mute and have a little snack. If I'm done chewing, I take it off mute.
SPEAKER_05Sna Sass and snack, Sass and munch?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, pretty much. So it's good that you're the host. So I have my little snack time. Oh, so now I'm the host.
SPEAKER_05Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01You're the you are the lost mistress.
SPEAKER_05How many degrees are we at now? The last time we checked in, you were at 90. So now we're gonna do hearts and minds. And after watching this episode, is it forward? Is it backwards? It's the 90s. So it hasn't changed. Fucking degree? Are you kidding me?
SPEAKER_01I mean, it's holding steady. It went from like zero to 35 to 90. Bigger picture. Bigger picture here. I got this cookie in my hand. I'm waiting to put this on mute so I can shut up this cookie in my mouth.
SPEAKER_05That's what she said. Alright, let's start reading. How did you feel last week went with the just reading the flashbacks and then just doing the on island? It's not bad, right?
SPEAKER_01No, I think I like that. That works, that works for me.
SPEAKER_05Either for me, I think it just moves quickly. Quicker.
SPEAKER_01Quickly? Quickly, really? It moves quickly.
SPEAKER_05It moves more quickly.
SPEAKER_01I don't think you've had enough to drink.
SPEAKER_05I was just gonna say I've been drinking. So for those of you at home, she has muted me while she talks to someone else in the room. So all I hear is nothing while I watch her lips move and her body language. She laughs because I'm talking about her and she can hear me. She stuck her tongue out at me, that bitch. Okay, well, I'm just gonna start reading the synopsis while she tunes me out.
SPEAKER_01Listen, I can hear everything you know that you're saying.
SPEAKER_05I acknowledge that. I acknowledge that. Alright. Let's get this on.
SPEAKER_01Let's get this party started, right? Okay.
SPEAKER_05That's gonna be like our new feature. Is what is Agnes gonna sing this week? If you'd like to.
SPEAKER_01I think our four listeners are going to like drop off to one.
SPEAKER_05Well, she takes requests, so you know.
SPEAKER_01No, I do not. Alright. I think you have a synaptic to read, damn it.
SPEAKER_05I was about to start when you interrupted me, damn it.
SPEAKER_00That damn patrol. Next week. I flamed on the patrol. Alright.
SPEAKER_05I I wanna be you next week, so next week I'm drinking patrol. Alright. Flashbacks. At a posh tennis club, Boone is leaving the court with a lady friend when he gets a call on his cell phone from Shannon. She's crying and shouting is heard in the background. She begs Boone for help, asking him to come and get her. She's in Sydney. Boone knocks on the door at a house, and Shannon's boyfriend, Frian, answers. Boone enters looking for Shannon and when she comes in the room, she looks surprised to see him. Boone reminds her of her frantic call, but she clams up and asks him to leave. While Brian has his back to her, Shannon pulls back her hair to reveal a large bruise on her face. Did you catch that when you watched it?
SPEAKER_01I did. I was like, ooh, undercover signals.
SPEAKER_05While Boone attempts to file a complaint against Brian at the Australian police station, Sawyer is brought into the station in the background while the detective and Boone chat. Did you catch that?
SPEAKER_00Yes, and then when Chakar walked through, then he brought him in. I was like, how funny is that?
SPEAKER_01And I take it, I don't think any of them noticed it. Didn't none no one really I don't think anyone, either one of them, like wants to get to the island, be like, oh wait, did I see the police station?
SPEAKER_00Like, I don't think neither one of them remembers it or noticed it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I don't think so either.
SPEAKER_00That was funny.
SPEAKER_05The detective reveals Shannon and Boone are in fact not blood related, but step siblings, as his mother married Shannon's father when they were children. The police can't help Boone, so he decides to take another approach. He finds Brian at work on the docks and tells him to get out of Shannon's life. When Brian scoffs, telling Boone that he loves Shannon, Boone decides to get to the point and asks what his love is worth. Showing his true colors, Brian names his price 50,000 US dollars. At the same house in Australia, after paying Brian off, Boone goes to collect Shannon and her things, but Shannon looks guilty. Brian comes into the room and lays it all out for Boone. Shannon orchestrated the whole drama in an attempt to get money from Boone's mother. Boone is humiliated and lets his emotions get the better of him, resulting in a fight between Brian and him. Boone leaves the house bloodied and rejected. Later, at Boone's hotel room in Sydney, Shannon knocks on the door. She tells him that Brian took off with the money and now she has no place to go. Shannon comes close to Boone, telling him that she knew he would bring the money because he's in love with her. Boone says she is drunk and crazy, but she comes closer and closer and Boone can't help himself. They fall into a passionate kiss and have sex. The next morning, Shannon is cold towards Boone and tells him she wants things to go back the way they were, regardless of Boone's feelings.
SPEAKER_01Can we talk about this for one second? Doom wing the police station they found out that they're not really related.
SPEAKER_05I'm like, I fucking knew it. She's texting. He is in love with her.
SPEAKER_01I was like, I knew there was a baby sh funky about this shit, and now I know, now I got proof.
SPEAKER_05So yeah, he's he then he's boon Carlisle and his mother married her father because she's Rutherford.
SPEAKER_01But I was like, ah, but then when they actually did it, like God, that was awful.
SPEAKER_05That was the most uncomfortable sex scene ever.
SPEAKER_01And I get it. Technically, biologically, and but they're not related. I get it. But still.
SPEAKER_05We have been watching this for the last few months doing this.
SPEAKER_01Thinking that they're brothers and sisters.
SPEAKER_05Right. And it's just awkward and uncomfortable to like oh little girl. What do you make of the fact that she was manipulating him? And obviously it's not something that was the first time.
SPEAKER_01So back to what I said before, like there's more to her. She's more she's not a dumb child. She may use it for evil, quote unquote. And even he said it that, you know, she's there's more to her. She's smart. There's more, like even he said it. Sometimes smart don't mean, you know, angelic. But I'm interested to find out more about her father's inheritance and how did she get any of it? Or I mean, did she really not get any of it, or was it in like a trust? Like there's always a little something. But that whole scene, you can see my face, man. That face says, but wait, there's more. Like I can see that she's kind of irresponsible, so I'm assuming that her her money is kind of like doled out to her, but whatever the case may be. But I feel vindicated, and my powers of deduction that this dude was in love with her. I was like, that's gross. That's his sister, but I can't be in love with her. Ew. And I'm like, ah, I was right then that related. So yeah, I kinda feel vindicated. Yay.
SPEAKER_05Day 24 on the island. Boon sees Saeed, who is enjoying an easy conversation with Shannon. Hurley interrupts Boon, asking him why he and Locke haven't brought back any boars lately. Boon, offended, tells Hurley that hunting boar isn't as easy as he thinks. Hurley reminds Boon that everyone needs protein and that living in this place isn't a game. Boon confronts Saeed and tells him to stay away from his sister. Saeed isn't intimidated, but Boon isn't backing down either. Before the situation escalates, La calls Boon away saying that they have work to do. I love this scene. When he tells Saeed, and Saeed's like, I'm sorry. It sounded like you were telling me what to do.
SPEAKER_01Of all people that it's coming from, like not knowing the backstory, not knowing anything, but it's just coming from like, hello Boon, you're Elaine. Like, really? Dude.
SPEAKER_05Said looks so amused, like, okay, right.
SPEAKER_01Like, I wouldn't I could be Claire 100 months pregnant and vulnerable, and I still won't take anything Boone said seriously. But um this episode, I was like, uh-huh. Prove that my man Locke is a fucking genius.
SPEAKER_05Yo, we'll get there. Hold on to that. While trudging through the jungle, Locke counsels Boone not to make an enemy out of Saeed. They're going to need him on their side later. For now, the important thing is to get back to the hatch. So we're already seeing that there's more division on the island. Hurley finds Jack and asks him if he has anything to help his upset stomach. He's so cute with his doctor-patient confidentiality.
SPEAKER_01That's adorable. I was like, oh.
SPEAKER_05Jack asks Hurley a few questions and learns the cause of his distress. Hurley has been eating nothing but fruit for the last week and his stomach is starting to complain. Hurley says they need protein, but there hasn't been any boar. Jack tells him to go and ask Jin for some fish, but Hurley tells Jack that Jin has it in for him because he refused to eat the sea urchin Jin caught the day after they crashed. Later, when Jack recounts the conversation to Kate, she offers a more disturbing possibility for the lack of boar meat lately. What if Locke is not catching them on purpose? Back on the beach, Hurley's desperation forces him to approach Jin. He asks him to teach him how to fish, but Jin has no idea what Hurley is saying. Still, as Jin walks to the water for the day's fishing, Hurley follows close behind. Boon and Locke discuss how they can open the hatch. Boone tries to convince Locke to tell the others about their discovery. If not everyone else, at least Shannon. Loc tells Boone she isn't ready to know and telling her now will only cause problems. But Boon insists he's going to tell her when they get back to camp. Locke feels that Shannon has too large of an influence over Boon's life. When Boone starts off again down the trail, Loc whacks him over the head with the handle of a knife, knocking him out cold. Boone wakes up to find himself tied to a tree. Locke sits before him, mixing a strange concoction in a coconut bowl. Boone begs Loc to untie him, but Locke refuses. He approaches Boon and spreads some of his concoction over Boon's open head wound. Loc tells Boone that he is on his own and he leaves a knife just out of Boon's reach. You can cut yourself free and make your way back to camp, Loc says, with the proper motivation. Kate and Son are working in a garden Sun has made. Kate is taking advantage of the fact that Sun can't understand English to speak freely about herself. When she says something funny and Sun can't help but smile, Kate realizes that Sun can speak English. Sun begs Kate not to tell anyone. So now Michael and Kate know about Sun. And that's it. Meanwhile, back at the beach, Hurley is trying his best to mimic everything Jin does in an attempt to catch some fish of his own. Having no luck at all, he throws down his makeshift net in frustration and storms back to the beach, but he steps on a sea urchin and howls in pain. Jin helps him back to the beach and Hurley begs him to urinate on his foot in order to prevent infection. Despite the language barrier, Jin understands his request and flatly refuses.
SPEAKER_03You're gonna have to pee on my foot, man. You're gonna stop the van. I saw it on TV. Just pee on it, man. You need to pee. Just do it. I'll lose my foot if you don't. Just put it on. Pee on it.
SPEAKER_01This is like the funniest shit ever. Because I pee on it, pee on it, pee on it. I think him screaming to pee on his foot was literally like the funniest thing ever. Like I wanted to pee on his foot because I was like, oh dude, you're making me feel sorry for you.
SPEAKER_05And then and he's just laying there and he's g he's yelling like gangrene amputation. And he's he's trying to reach and grab at Jin's dick like Jin was like, no. Like, oh shit, Jin. Alright. Why can't Hurley just pee on his own foot? I mean, guys couldn't kind of aim.
SPEAKER_01I mean, if I had to, my foot to the I can pee on my foot. I'm sure he could.
SPEAKER_05Right. For for a guy, it's definitely easier than for a girl.
SPEAKER_01But I don't think that even crossed his mind. And then I think it's jellyfish things, not sea urgent things. Yeah, that's one. I went back to that last scene friends, you know. But yes. Bunny. Funny, funny, buds, bunny. Patrone and peach nectar.
SPEAKER_05Hey everyone, Lisa here. I want to take a moment to tell you about this really cool travel backpack that I got. It's made by Muslim and it's so cool. As you know, Agnes and I are not in the same state. So we travel to see each other quite frequently. This backpack makes it so easy to do so. The bag has space for everything. When I fly, I don't like to check a bag. This makes it so easy for me to bring everything that I need with me on carry-on, including recording equipment. It has a space for everything. Trust me when I say that if you travel, even if it's just for a road trip, this bag is perfect for you. Go to MUSM.com now and use our promo code SASPOD for 20% off of your new bag. Trust me when I say you'll love it. Back in the jungle, Boone struggles to free himself, but there is no way of reaching the knife. Suddenly he hears Shannon screaming from another part of the jungle. When he asks her for help, she tells him that she is tied up too. And there's a bigger problem. The monster is back and it is nearby. Boon is able to contort himself just enough to get the knife. He cuts himself loose before following Shannon's scream to her location and cutting her loose as well. They both sprint off and hide in a mangrove trunk as the monster approaches. In another part of the jungle, Saeed quizzes Jack about which way he thinks North is. Said shows him the compass Lot gave him earlier, which shows North in another direction. Saeed claims it must be defective. He says a minor magnetic anomaly could throw it off by two or three degrees, but not by as much as it is. Any thoughts on the compass?
SPEAKER_01So yes, I have a couple thoughts about a couple of things. My first thought was this island is weird as fuck. And mine wouldn't have been, oh, the compass is something's wrong with the compass. Mine's like, okay, what are we? Especially since Saeed mentioned the day before about the tides being kind of not normal, and then north is not north. Like I would connect the two, not blaming on the compass. That's just me. Especially since he had problems with his own compass, the one that he made. But so like you have problems with the one that you made too. So like dude trying to blame Locke for everything. Like you think I think he thinks Loc is wonky. I think he's jealous of his abilities.
SPEAKER_05I didn't feel that. I I took it as Saida's just trying to be more logical.
SPEAKER_01Sometimes the logical is accepting what everything is telling you. You may not want to believe. Like, you know what I mean? What is that? What was that saying that Sherlock Holmes is? Always says, once you rule out the impossible, the possible is the right answer, no matter how unlikely it seems. So the tide is wonky, you got polar bears. Like you see things with your own eyes, that's really fucked up. So why is Noah have you to cut the compass? That's just me. But what do I know?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Leave me alone.
SPEAKER_05Back to your book. If you didn't listen to the previous episode, uh Agnes is making a coffee table book of all her insane ramblings, and that's what was it, page four?
SPEAKER_01It will be now. Random ramblings of an insane mind.
SPEAKER_05There you go, sorry.
SPEAKER_01Alright.
SPEAKER_05Back in the jungle, the coast is clear. As Boone and Shannon make their way along the trail, Boone tells Shannon all about the hatch. While Jack and Charlie make a fire on the beach, Jack asks Charlie for his opinion on Loc. Charlie says that Loc is the one man on the island that he would trust his life to. Kate and Son continue to talk about the English secret. When Kate asks why Son doesn't tell Jin, Sun tells Kate it's because she loves him. Asking Kate, haven't you ever lied to a man you loved? Kate gives no response. Back at camp, Hurley is sharing his tale of failure and sea urchin with Michael when Jin arrives and presents Hurley with his very own fish. He may not speak English, but he recognizes that Hurley made a good effort and this is his reward. In the jungle, Boone and Shannon are attacked by the monster again. This time, try as they might, they can't run fast enough, and Shannon is snatched up by the beast. Boone continues his desperate search for Shannon, but he finds her bloody, crumpled body lying by a stream. Boone weeps as she dies in his arms. Later, after finally making his way back to camp, Boon sees Loc sitting by the fire and attacks him, blaming Loc for Shannon's death. When Boone tells Loc that Shannon died in his arms, Loc asks Boone why there is no blood on him. Boon starts to respond, but at that moment Shannon comes into view. She's alive and well, chatting happily with Saeed. Boone realizes that the concoction Loc spread on his head wound was a hallucinic that caused Boone to have his vision. Locke confirms this and asks Boon how he felt when Shannon died. Boon says I felt relieved. Satisfied that Boon is finally making strides towards letting go of Shannon, Loc tells Boon to follow me. He does so.
SPEAKER_01Locke's having Boon go on this vision quest? Fucking genius. Because Locke, I like he watches people, he observes, and he knew he knew that he was in love with his sister too. He may not know that they were only they were stepbrothers' sisters, but he knew, and no good come out of that. That's just bad business all the way around. When you hear her crying in the distance, like screaming for help, I'm like, this is not real. I knew from then it wasn't real. How'd you know that? I'm a professional TV watcher. No, I think it's just the time, it's just it was too convenient. Like he goes, Oh, you're motive when you get to find the motivation, and all of a sudden you hear her screaming in the background for help.
SPEAKER_05Like why couldn't it just be him tying her up? Like booming.
SPEAKER_01It didn't make sense. Where did she come from? He went all the way to to what to kidnap her from the beach or from the caves, bring her back to time and teach him a lesson. It was just too convenient. So I was like, yeah, no, it's a f it's fake. I know I just killed you. I just killed your your buzz. That's fine. Unless unless the vision quest itself was fake and she really is dead. I don't know.
SPEAKER_05I guess you'll have to stay tuned to the next episode. Huh? I guess you'll have to stay tuned to the next episode. Flip the table.
SPEAKER_00Fuck all this shit.
SPEAKER_05Flip the table. Okay, no one no one in this episode is looking for Claire again.
SPEAKER_01Again. Again. Like what the hell? No plan like I said last week, no plan of action, no literally the whole episode. I'm like, um, hello, Claire. Hello. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Last week's episode was days 21 and 22, and this episode is 24. So two and three days have passed, and still no update on Claire.
SPEAKER_01I I'm just curious. Maybe it's just us, but I think not the fact that they're like, oh, okay, she's gone, seems insane to me. So are we just crazy? Or does anyone else think this is crazy? Like if you were on a deserted island with a bunch of people that you have no choice but get to get close to, and then someone was fucking kidnapped, whether you care about the other person's life or not, wouldn't it be smart to figure out what the hell you're dealing with?
SPEAKER_05Right. And obviously they all have they all have a sense of caring for each other. Because they're all even even minimally looking out for each other. You know, making sure that there's food and water and just you know, community effort.
SPEAKER_01Is it right? So someone else out there, please let me know if we were just crazy. Is anyone else out there that would not give a fuck about Claire? I don't know. Let me know.
SPEAKER_05Sun made a garden. What do you think about Sun's made a garden? Very pretty garden.
SPEAKER_01Right? It's very pretty.
SPEAKER_05Is it is it going back to what you were saying about when she had the herbs for Shannon's asthma about like typically that it's gonna be sun? I think okay.
SPEAKER_01Bigger picture in the plane with all those people, the odds that one person may have some kind of gardening herb experience, there's a pretty good chance that one person would, you know. I don't know, it's a little stereotypical to have the Asian woman having that knowledge. I don't know if that was just a coincidence or not. I like to think more mathematically, one person would, you know.
SPEAKER_05If not son, then who?
SPEAKER_01Well, how they write the characters, it'd be nobody. It had to be son, because that's how they wrote her. Um, I don't know. Like if it wasn't gonna be son, maybe Rose. You know, I don't know. Another stereotype. I know. Based on how much they've already developed the characters. I don't know. And then if you think about it, collectively, people collect knowledge. You may not use what you collect, you may not realize what you know. But when things get when you um ask a certain question or put a certain situation, you'd be like, oh, I remember reading this, I remember seeing this. So collectively, they can rebuild a community. Yeah. As you know, so it's because you collect knowledge, you collect things. Like it boggles my mind how people are like, Well, how do you know that? I'm like, Well, how do you not? How do you live your life? How do you speak to people? How do you get to know people? How do you watch things? How do you read things and not learn something? But that's just me. My little judgmental moment there.
SPEAKER_05Even though this was technically a Boon episode, I think that it focused a lot on Locke.
SPEAKER_01In a roundabout way, kind of. Told you, my man Locke.
SPEAKER_05Genius. You have the dynamic between Locke and Boone. Boone clearly looks up to him. And we'll get more of that later. And then you get that scene where they're sitting there and they're just looking at the hatch, and he gives him this story about um Michelangelo's is it with David? And he's like, so are we just gonna stare at this for four months? If that's what it's saying. And Boone is Boone wants action, and Locke just wants to get him to focus, I guess.
SPEAKER_01That makes sense.
SPEAKER_05I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I'm over here nodding, like everyone can see me, but yeah, I forgot I have to speak sometimes.
SPEAKER_05When Locke is sitting by the shore, just looking out at the water, Jack approaches him and asks if he can sit with him, and he says, Any ships yet? And Locke is like, Not yet, but I'm a patient guy.
SPEAKER_01That was cute.
SPEAKER_05We see that Locke is very patient. He was probably just sitting there enjoying the visions in his head of whatever the hell Boom was doing in the jungle with his magic concoction.
SPEAKER_01I wanna know what Locke knows. Like, does he know something we don't know? Is he just intuitive on a level that people just don't, you know, re-tap into? He can walk. You're looking like I'm crazy. You're like, what are you talking about?
SPEAKER_05Your sound was breaking up a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so so is yours. Frozen. So so like I was thinking about this the other day. I'm like, why is Locke the only one that had this miracle happen to him? And he's so intuitive. Like, I need to know more.
SPEAKER_05But maybe he wasn't. Maybe he wasn't the only one who did a miracle. Are you giving me a hint? Maybe somebody else did and you just don't know it yet.
SPEAKER_01That's so fucking cool. But he is he the only one embracing this miracle and tapping into his innovatives? And sh- I don't know, but Locke can do no wrong.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01If Locke turns out to be a bad guy, he'll still be my favorite.
SPEAKER_05So I was gonna ask you your thoughts on Locke, but I think we just got them. Are you crazy?
SPEAKER_01Really? I don't I'm kind of shy with my thoughts and feelings.
SPEAKER_05Does this give you a different perspective on the way Boone has treated her? Which she's been manipulating him because she knows that he's in love with her. She's used that against him to get money and to get him to do what she wants. So does this change the way you feel about him?
SPEAKER_01He annoys the fuck out of me. That's never gonna change. Do I get his relationship? Do I get it? Absolutely no. I get how you I I hate you and I love you at the same time. I get it. He still annoys me. Does it make me like him better anymore? No. But I get it. I understand it.
SPEAKER_05And what about Shannon, knowing that that's her history?
SPEAKER_01I told you she wasn't a dun blonde. Like I told I mean I just I said I always told you there was more to her. I never said she was Mother Teresa either, though. I think it's I think I'm funny. Um I crack myself up sometimes. I think this episode just kind of put my uh feelings on them in perspective. It kind of just like I had I feel like I had like shallow opinions of them, and this kind of makes sure like my opinions are still my opinions. I didn't change my mind, but I kind of like I get it on a deeper level.
SPEAKER_05What about the title of the episode, Hearts and Minds?
SPEAKER_01I think it's kind of I know each episode, the title means like the obvious, and it's something not so obvious. I can't see the subliminal ver point to it. Is it kind of obvious with the whole your mind and your hearts and the vision quest you went on and separating the two and how the two feed off each other?
SPEAKER_05I don't know if they always have a double meaning. I know most of the time they do, but I think it's still worth talking about it each time because you might have insight that I don't translation.
SPEAKER_01I'm not gonna have a wonky thought on it. Gotcha. I have a I have an alcohol-infused thoughts of a lot of things.
SPEAKER_05Those are the best kinds. Let's let's talk about Walt because Walt's episode is coming up next. Okay. And then we'll get into trivia.
SPEAKER_01What about Walt?
SPEAKER_05You tell me.
SPEAKER_01We get a Walt episode next week, so I think with Walt, I think he's what is he like 10-ish? 10 and um I know the relationship is strained. I know he has it been in his life, and I get like you're trying to you've literally had to be a father to him overnight. And this is a kid that doesn't know you from Adam. So I get that the the situation's gonna be super tense, super difficult, super just like weird. I think there's a lot of emotions going on between between those two. And I think looking at the situation, though they got stranded from desert island. Boy's mother just died. Um, you're a complete stranger to him. I think they're both doing the best they can. That being said, I still don't like Mike. I think I think he's a little insecure within within himself personally. Um yeah, that's gonna be a tough relationship to try to build out of nowhere. Considering the situation, I give I wish him the best. You have six reasons to get this shit to get together. Or not, I don't know. At least it won't tell me anything. Trivia, yeah, trivia, trivia.
SPEAKER_05Okay This day, meaning day twenty-four, will be seen again in a future episode from a different perspective, and that's all I'm gonna say.
SPEAKER_01That's cool. That's exciting. I'm excited to it's not gonna be like in uh like two two seasons from now, right? Is it coming up in this season? I'm probably gonna forget. Okay, fine.
SPEAKER_05When Boone is reporting Shannon being abused by her boyfriend, Sawyer is seeing being led away by the police officers, shouting and screaming. These events are revisited in Exodus part one from Sawyer's perspective. I'll give you that much. I'll give you that much. That's cool. This is the first explicit character connection revealed in a flashback.
SPEAKER_01First, which means there's gonna be more. Yes! So fucking cool. I think it's I think based on T T V logic, the fact that they connected somewhere somehow before the flight was bound to come through. Like it had to, at least at the airport, like you have there had to be some kind of connection, and I was waiting for that. Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_05The scene between Jack and Locke on the beach is similar in setup to another scene in the future. That's all I'm gonna say.
SPEAKER_01Ooh. Interesting. These are good trivia. Thank you. Because other trivias like this is the scene where the future entered the first time. Like, okay, that was weird.
SPEAKER_05But I'm just reading them. Alright, Claire is not uh is not in the episode and she's not credited. And this, no, I'm not even gonna read that one. Nope.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Alright. Ooh, I can't. Are you gonna read it later? You need to make notes and read them. Yeah, well, like read read them when they're no longer spoilers.
SPEAKER_05I highlight the ones that I read so I know what I read.
SPEAKER_01And then you have right that notation, like, okay, this episode, I'm gonna go back to these this trivia.
SPEAKER_05Right.
SPEAKER_01So it won't be a spoiler anymore.
SPEAKER_05Yay, so excited.
unknownOkay. Okay.
SPEAKER_05Any last thoughts on hearts and minds before we wrap it up?
SPEAKER_01Nope. I am mindless at the time at this moment in time. Heartless always. Peach nectar and patron. That's all I have to say.
SPEAKER_05Um I'm I gotta make sure I have mango, but fuck it, I have enough time to go get it if I don't.
SPEAKER_01Do you know what I had a craving for this morning? Like as I'm eating my junk food? I want Malta. I love maltas.
SPEAKER_05I don't like those at all.
SPEAKER_01I know I tell Angelique this all the time. I am a hundred percent more Puerto Rican than she is. You know her, but did you would you ever think she was Puerto Rican? I mean, yes. Casual. Just like cat I'm not her name. I'm not talking about you, you know her name.
SPEAKER_05Well I mean, growing up where we did, of course, I lived on the other side of the of the highway, which was the you know, the less white side. You know, I was I would looking at me, I'm the whitest one of the bunch. But it was it was a very white neighborhood where we went to school. So it those of us who were not necessarily of quote unquote white ancestry, I don't know how to better say that.
SPEAKER_01And that's like all my friends.
SPEAKER_05Were the anonymous that's probably why we found each other.
SPEAKER_01But you know what? Growing up, I never looked at that that way. Well, not me. I did like to, I like it's funny though.
SPEAKER_05But I grew up in a family where everyone is a different color, so this diversity is very normal to me. And you were the same. So I think that that's a lot of what built the friendship, is just this open-minded air to us.
SPEAKER_01I think at that age, that kind at that age, the the mentality of I don't see color is afflicable. Yeah. It's a valid it's a it's valid and it means something when you're that age. But there are some of the things that I've got to do. I think it's bullshit at our age.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah, yeah. Although, can I tell you a secret? I love secrets. Do you know how many times like I'll talk to someone and it'll be in a store or just you know, a passerby, like n nobody of importance. You know what I mean? Like in the grand scheme of things. It's not like I'm meeting somebody's boyfriend or somebody's relative. It's just somebody that I pass in my life. And then I'll just think back or some or if I'm recounting a story, and then I'll be like, I have no idea what that person looked like. I honest to God, like, don't w will not even remember like if they were black, white. And then I'm like, isn't that like when you don't see color?
SPEAKER_01Like, but when you say it like that, at some level, you just don't give a fuck enough to to read out.
SPEAKER_05I don't. I really don't. Like, I'm an equal opportunity offender. If I like you, I like you. And if I don't, it's it's got nothing to do with your outside features. If I don't like you, period, as a person. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's you're yeah. Because I tell everyone and they don't get until they get to know me, they don't understand this. I'm like, I like people on an individual basis as I get to know you. But as a whole, I don't like anybody.
SPEAKER_05Well you then superficially friendly one.
SPEAKER_01Yes. I'll be nice to people, but but I don't like But you don't like them. I don't like anybody. I don't like people, period. I don't like you until I like you.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. And for those of you who don't know, she will talk to everyone and anyone, but the second that interaction concludes, she's done. She just It's like it never happens. It's like it never happens. And me, I'm I'm the opposite. I have resting bitch face. Don't approach me on the street, don't talk to me, don't look at me, don't ask me for directions. However, if you approach me, then I'll be nice. Because I'm actually only superficially mean.
SPEAKER_01But you know what? I grew up, even as a child, I don't want to say child, child, but as a teenager and in my early 20s, people, random people would strike conversations with me. And I'm not talking about weird, like, oh my god, I'm gonna have to cut you kind of people. I'm talking about just random conversations with people. And I remember this, I was on the train coming home from work, and let me tell you, I work like a hundred, I'm not a hundred hours a week, but I worked long hours. And at the end of the day, I didn't want to talk to anybody. Like, leave me the I I had that. If you come next to me, you better leave my medical assistant because I'm gonna fuck you up. Like, leave me a lone face. And I had this one lady, and I don't remember how it happened. Like, you know, on the train, she's talking to me, she's like, You have an old soul, and she's empathic about her teenage daughter. Like, and I'm like, how the fuck did I get into this? Like, I had a long history of people opening up and telling me things. And actually to this day it still happens. And then they go about their business, I go about my business. And I just don't know. It's not that I don't care about people's you know, I just like why the fuck me? Anyway.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I get it. But you and I have vastly different experiences when we walk into a supermarket, and I learned that the hard way. Me? What do you mean? Because I was I like to go in the supermarket by myself. For the most part, I'm used to going in by myself. Get in, get out. And even if I'm not getting in, getting out, I like to be left the fuck alone. I put my headphones on so no so people know don't don't talk to me, don't approach me, let me be. I browse, I do what I need to do, that's it. You? Oh my goodness. I I've gone to a supermarket with her, and I'm like, you know her? No. She just asked me something, she said hello, she smiled, I said hi. You have conversations about nothing with half of the people in the supermarket. And I'm like, It was weird. Okay, so it's because of where you live, also.
SPEAKER_01Right, that's exactly what happened. I'm I'm um I'm too city for. Part of it was when I moved here, um I'm from New York, and New Yorkers are not rude. I just want everyone to know that we are not rude.
SPEAKER_05Leave us the fuck alone. But if you really need our help, you need something, we're there. We got you.
SPEAKER_01Right. People were kind of in shock when I first moved here. But you go, I end up going to the same store, seeing the same people, and you get to know people's faces that I didn't think it happened. Now, mind you, I lived in New York all my life, going to the same store, and then like there was like my grocery store in in New York. You see, you know, the manager, you know, you know people, but these people here, it's like all I did was want to buy my milk, and I know about your cousin's neighbor's dog. I was like, I just want to buy my milk. Like, the fuck.
