SPEAKER_00

Do either of you know what this is? It's a flight data recorder, otherwise known as a black box. That's exactly what it is. Now here's the funny thing. This black box comes from Oceanic Flight 815. A salvage vessel recovered it from the bottom of the ocean. It took a considerable amount of Mr. Whitmore's resources to procure it. It was found with the wreckage of the plane, along with all 324 dead passengers. That's not the complete story, as you were well aware, Mr. Girardi, of the fact that you're standing here, breathing. The wreckage was obviously staged. Now can you imagine what kind of resources and manpower go into pulling off a feat of that magnitude? Making the recovery of a plane crash. Putting 324 families through a grieving process based on a lie. But what's even more disturbing, where exactly does one come across 324 dead bodies? And that, Mr. Gerard, Mr. Hugh, is just one of the many reasons we want Benjamin Linus.

SPEAKER_02

Hi and welcome to this episode of Sassin Sips. Today we're gonna talk about season four, episode seven from Lost G Yun. I'm one of your hosts. I'm Lisa.

SPEAKER_05

And I'm Agnes.

SPEAKER_02

And today, what are you drinking, Agnes?

SPEAKER_05

My favorite morning pick me up coffee with a little to it.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, and since we're in different time zones and it's Sunday, I'm drinking the Jesus juice.

SPEAKER_05

I've got my just hit the Jesus juice on Sunday. I love that.

SPEAKER_02

I've got my yellow tail. I'm I'm good. And as you can hear, um, people, I am still struggling all these weeks later trying to breathe after having COVID. This shit is no joke. I I have my lips have touched my nebulizer more in the past few weeks than they have my husband. Okay, that's how sad this shit is. Anyhow, enough of a PSA.

SPEAKER_05

I feel like our entire lives are PSAs. Like, I think that's what we're when we're not talking about loss, our conversation veer to PSA PSAs on a myriad of topics. Yes, we keep our soapbox right next to us every wherever we go.

SPEAKER_02

Instead of it being like, welcome to my TED talk, it should just be like welcome to Lisa and Agnes Assassin's Sips Talk because I mean we are just full of these nuggets of wisdom.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, so I like that little like and welcome to my TED talk. Like, I love that little how it's become like mainstream to use the phrase. Okay, but I'm also convinced about 90% of the people who use it don't know what it means.

SPEAKER_02

So I just look at them. I'm sorry, I'm like trying to refrain from hacking up a lung. I got like my finger on the mute button.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, so yeah, I'm eating uh a chocolate Easter bunny from last Easter.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, but it is not near Easter, it's from last year.

SPEAKER_05

I just keep wrapping up and living in my freezer like it's in it.

SPEAKER_03

Like oh, okay.

SPEAKER_05

So um, I um been muting and unmuting my thing sporadically. Thank you, Alt A.

SPEAKER_02

Last week I warned you that this was a little bit of a rough one. So I just want to gauge, you know, meh, you have no feeling.

SPEAKER_05

Like, I the last okay, there was a lot of like foreshadowing. I'm like, uh it was kind of like okay, I kind of know what this is going, and it was like, and at the very end, that last scene was it the last scene, but the last and per the scene last five minutes of the episode, right? I was like, oh yes, be still my heart, but it wasn't like yeah, this is a little teary-eyed, but it wasn't like I expecting yeah, I was expecting a hundred. I thought it was gonna be like bawling, crying, and I do cry on cartoons and movies and commercials and such, it's just real life.

SPEAKER_02

I don't well, I did say that there were gonna be ones worse than this, but this was a little bit of a rough one. I think we've had worse ones, and we will have some again.

SPEAKER_05

I'll make sure I take an Adavan.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, I that's what I'm saying. I didn't think you were gonna need her for this one, but there's no somewhere you need it, and I actually forgot that you warned me until the last five minutes.

SPEAKER_05

I'll look away. She did tell me. Maybe I should feel something.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe maybe you should have some feelings. Okay, all right. So, anything else that you wanna mention before we jump in?

SPEAKER_05

Um, you mentioned already with the whole like concurrent scenes on the island, umwards, flashbacks. I'm like, god damn, this fucking these people are nutsy.

SPEAKER_02

Like, I feel like fairness, I did mention that before we started recording, but okay.

SPEAKER_05

I thought you did that when you hit recording. No, no, so before you start recording, you mentioned it, and that's the only thing I was gonna say.

SPEAKER_02

Thought you already no, just when we were going over like the outline for the episode.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, right, right, right, right, right.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so we're gonna do the flashbacks first. Thank you, Lost Pedia. The year is 2000. But now when you're watching the episode, it goes from on island, and then when it jumps, you have no idea if this is flash forward, flashback until the end of the episode, and then it ties it together. But for the sake of the podcast, this is a flashback. The year is 2000. Jin is on his cell phone saying that he will be at the hospital soon. He rushes into a toy store and buys a large stuffed panda. Outside the store, Jin yells for a cab and puts the bear in it. But before he can get inside, another pedestrian gets in and the cab speeds off. Well, the guy bumped him, he dropped his phone. Like, why don't you just get into the car while you're talking on your phone? Do you know that you can use cell phones in the car? I'm not sure if he knows that.

SPEAKER_05

That was a little like that little thing was annoying to me. I was like, ill, duh, stupid. But I feel like this scene, I don't know why, was something that I had to remember. Because you don't see the guy who bumped him, but they made it clear to see the guy getting a call with the panda. I'm like, something about it seemed like, remember this scene. But yeah, that's it.

SPEAKER_02

He goes back into the store and he tries to buy another panda. The store owner suggests a stuffed dragon since it brings good luck in the year of the dragon. Jin insists that he must have the panda. He ends up paying an exorbitant price for one which had been reserved on hold for another customer. He rushes through the hospital entrance carrying the stuffed panda. Upon arriving at the maternity ward, Jin approaches a room which has a man standing guard outside. Jin identifies himself as working for Mr. Peike, offers his congratulations to the ambassador for becoming a grandfather, and states that as a representative of Peik automotive, he has brought a gift. Before the guard, who tells Jin to wait, can enter the hospital room, Jin asks for the baby's gender. The guard responds that it's a boy. And as the guard turns to enter the door, Jin throws a pink ribbon on the waiting area table and wraps the panda's neck with a blue ribbon. An older man comes out of the room and Jin presents the bear as a token of Mr. Peik's esteem. Jin informs the ambassador that Mr. Peik is looking forward to doing business in China. As he is leaving the hospital, a doctor asks why Jin is leaving so early. He informs her that it's not his baby. She says, Well, maybe someday. To which he replies, Don't rush me. I've only been married two months.

SPEAKER_05

So this is kind of weird to talk about it like this.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_02

Because you don't get it until the end, really.

SPEAKER_05

Right, because as you're going back and forth, everything makes sense. So you're like, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But right, because it's like son is in the hospital, he's on his way, and so you think that the events are happening concurrently, and it's not until he gets to the hospital that you're like, wait, he had a girl, he now it's a boy. What the fuck? Like, yeah. And then he says, and then, like, in case you still weren't sure, he says he's only been married for two months, which obviously can't be right. Right. So I'm like, oh, flashback. On the Kahana, it's nighttime. Frank is holding a small paper brown bag. He's confronted by Kimi, who warns him, don't be late. Frank travels to the lower level of the ship where he meets Regina, who seems somewhat distant and a little confused. He tells her that the captain wants him to bring the paper bag to Said and Desmond, and that the book she's reading, The Survivors of Chancellor, is upside down. As Frank enters the room, the door can be heard locking from the outside. Frank says the captain is upset about them busting out of the old room, and Saeed responds that the door was left open and he had assumed Frank did it. Said asks if he've if he's had communication with the islanders, and Frank remarks that their satellite phone must be broken. Frank dumps the contents of the bag to reveal several containers of lima beans and says that they've had a problem with the kitchen. He gives Said a can opener as he tells him to stay put. He knocks on the door and is let out by Regina. In the morning, Desmond awakens to find Saeed eating a can of lima beans. Someone slips a folded note through the vent in the cabin door. As Saeed picks it up, he tells Desmond that Ben claimed that there was a spy on the boat. The note reads, Don't trust the captain. Desmond remarks on a knocking sound which can be heard through the walls. And Said tells him it's not mechanical, so he thinks it's being made by a person. Said and Desmond are released from the sick bay for their meeting with the captain. When they emerge on the deck, they immediately notice the helicopter is gone. They are told Frank has gone on an errand and are led to believe he has returned to the island. The doctor's like, do you know anywhere else he could land?

SPEAKER_05

I mean known with you crazy mofos, who knows? Let's be real.

SPEAKER_02

Regina then appears, draped with large chains, and as if in a trance, she walks over to the side of the ship, climbs up over the railing, and throws herself into the ocean. Desmond and Said attempt to rally the crew to save her, but the captain appears and orders the men back to their posts. When they meet Captain Galt, Saeed and Desmond begin to get an idea of the freighter cruise mission. The captain shows them the flight data recorder, the black box, of Flight 815 and tells them it was obtained by Charles Whidmore. He explains that the wreckage was found in the bottom of the ocean and included 324 dead bodies. He then explains it was obviously a stage find, but that it is frightening to think about the fact that somebody had the power and resources to do such a thing, especially procuring 324 dead bodies. The captain remarks that this was just one of the reasons they need to capture Benjamin Linus. What did you make of that scene?

SPEAKER_05

Um, well, I just also know who he said was the owner of the vessel.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, um so that so that's true. I had to go in there a little bit.

SPEAKER_05

Now actually no, you did it, because I knew I was right. Who else could it be? No, um I don't know. I I I uh it seems kind of like self-explanatory. Like, okay, that's obvious. Yeah, maybe Ben has something to do with it. Not self-explanatory, but kind of like it's not stuff, but it's kind of that's what he's saying. It's kind of possible. You're like, okay, it's probable. Yeah, he has something to do with it because this is Ben and he's able to pull shit. Like, you're like, how the fuck did you do this? At the same time, I feel like it's such an obvious scapegoat at the same time. I'm like, mmm, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

We know Ben has ways to get on and off the island. We know that he has a decent amount of resources, right? Because Miles is like, give me $3.2 million. And we don't know what Miles knows. So I don't know. I think it's plausible.

SPEAKER_05

I think either answer is plausible. Actually, he did have something to do with it, or he's being used as a scapegoat. Both answers are each equally plausible. So I'm gonna like tap out on this question. I don't have an answer.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Later, Ray, now with a wound on his cheek, takes Desmond and Said to a filthy new room on the quiet part of the ship. Desmond notes the ship is not moving, to which Ray responds, if you say so. Upon entering the new room, they find it contains cockroaches and a large bloodstain on the wall. Ray observes that the room should have already been cleaned and calls Kevin Johnson. Who has been down the hall mopping the floor? You already got a smile on your face.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I do. I went back and I double checked to make sure I wasn't going crazy in every episode since I've been looking for it. I'm like, nope, I'm not crazy, so it's just a matter of time.

SPEAKER_02

As Johnson walks down the hall and into the light, Saeed recognizes him as Michael Dawson. Desmond introduces himself. It says that this is the first meeting between the two. And I'm like, is it? Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I guess it is.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. And it's still weird that this is four years later, but it's actually two months later. You know, yeah, it's still kind of weird to me.

SPEAKER_02

While Saeed is shocked, he plays along with Michael's lie in order to feel the situation out. Can I just say that you caught that his name was in the credits? And every time I tried to ask you about who's the spy on the ship or who is the captain, you never once said him. And I was like, how the fuck did she catch that his name is there? And she didn't put two and two together.

SPEAKER_05

I'm very disappointed in myself.

SPEAKER_01

Me too.

SPEAKER_05

You think I'm like, shame on me. I need a spanking. Who wants to give it to me? Um I don't know how I didn't catch it. But yeah, as he's talking, he's like, Johnson, Johnson. I'm like, oh, that's that as oh, that's Michael. And I was like, oh, okay, that's Michael. That's the that's that and it is like, okay, that makes sense. And I'm like, okay, let's move on. But it's like the most natural thing in the world.

SPEAKER_02

How I didn't yeah, I don't I don't know how you didn't catch it.

SPEAKER_05

I don't know. I don't, I can't, is no explanation. Maybe maybe my brain was just like that can't be it. No, I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

You know what I think? I think that you just got sucked in to like the magic of the island that you you you were just not thinking straight.

SPEAKER_05

I don't know if magic or or like I don't know, one of the psychedelic drugs that that's given to me via osmosis or watching the show. I don't know. I swear to god, I'm like this TV. This show is kind of like it fucks with your head. And just when you think you're normal, you feel like you're like, yeah, no, this no, I'm not that normal. It's making me feel like I'm going crazy. And the fact that I'm things make sense worries me. I'm scared. Very much so.

SPEAKER_02

We almost got her close. So close.

SPEAKER_05

Pure evil.

SPEAKER_02

On the island. At night, Sun and Jin are on the beach when Sun questions why Saeed and Desmond have not come back after three days. Jin comforts her and tells her he wants to talk about baby names. Sun does not want to discuss it, saying it's bad luck. Jin, who is confident the baby is a girl, suggests the name Ji Yun. Sun says it's a beautiful name, but she doesn't want to jinx the baby. They make a deal to get off the island first before discussing it further. In the morning, Sun wakes Jin and informs him that Kate and Jack have returned. Sun finds Kate and asks what happened. Kate tells her how Charlotte hid her and that they had gone to a poison gas factory. Kate remarks that they were trying to earn some brownie points. And she also says that Juliet lied about the tempest being a power station, probably out of habit. Sun asks Kate if Daniel and Charlotte are really there to rescue them, and Kate replies that they talked about a lot of things, but none of them were about rescue. On the beach, Sun approaches Daniel, who has taken the sapphone apart, and they introduce themselves. Sun asks him if they're going to rescue them, and Daniel says that it isn't his call. Sun asks whose call it is, and he doesn't respond. Sun thanks him and leaves. Jin is making breakfast and Jack compliments him on his improving English. Jin says that both Sun and Sawyer have been teaching him, but Sun is better at it. Sun comes running up but stops at the sight of Jack. Jack inquires about her health, and she says that the morning sickness has stopped. After Jack leaves, Sun tells Jin to Well, first she's like, do what I say and don't ask questions. She says to pack food for two days because they're moving to Locks Group. And yet, Jin has a lot of questions. He's like, but why? But why? But why? Like Axel.

SPEAKER_05

Legit. Yeah, but you tell him what the answer is. He's like, why? I'm like, oh my god, because I said so.

SPEAKER_02

Sun is going through the medical supplies to find her prenatal vitamins when Juliet arrives suddenly. She confronts Sun about why she would need a new bottle unless she's going on a trip. Juliet reminds Sun that pregnant women die on the island and Sun needs to escape. But Sun doesn't trust Juliet and takes the pills anyway, still determined to go to Locke's group. Kate draws Jin and Sun a map to Locke's barracks. She warns them that she'll have to tell Jack that they left. Why does she have to tell Jack What the fuck? That's legitimately I'm

SPEAKER_05

Watches, I'm like, Exque me.

SPEAKER_01

I have to tell him Jack shit shit.

SPEAKER_05

Not a damn thing. Reason 163 billion as to why I don't like him. And Kate has lost any badass point she may have even had to even say, I have to tell Jack.

SPEAKER_02

But yeah, and then but then she says, Oh, but she'll give them a good head start. Oh, gee, thanks, Kate. Thanks.

SPEAKER_05

And then and her response was like, okay, like it was just like it's the most natural thing in the world for her to say.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_05

Bitch, you got me fucked up. What do you mean you'll give me a head start? I don't remember being captive here. I don't remember this being, dare I say it, North Korea. What the fuck? Like, no, I could the fuck.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and then they both agree that Jack won't understand why they're leaving. But that's fine. But so who gives a fuck? He's not in charge of me.

SPEAKER_05

Like you're not the boss of me now. You're not the boss of me now. Remember Malcolm the Middle? Michael, Malcolm in the middle.

SPEAKER_02

I remember the show, but I didn't I didn't really like watch it.

SPEAKER_05

Oh I well, that was a theme song.

SPEAKER_02

Oh. You're not the boss of me now.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, goodbye.

SPEAKER_02

As they're saying goodbye, they're interrupted by Juliet, who forbids Sun to leave. Here we go again. Juliet warns Jin that Sun is very ill and will die within three weeks if she doesn't leave the island. But Jin doesn't appear to understand what Juliet's saying, and Sun refuses to translate. Sun is not swayed, and Jin supports her saying where Sun go, I go. Juliet then tells Jin that Sun had an affair. Sun slaps Juliet and Jin storms off. Sun catches up with Jin and tries to plead with him to stay, saying the affair was a long time ago. Jin is leaving with fishing gear when Bernard unknowingly interrupts their argument to ask Jin if he can go fishing with him. When he realizes they were having an argument, he apologizes, saying it was a bad time, but Jin tells Bernard he can come along. Bernard what when Bernard realizes, you just see the look on his face like oh shit, what did I step into?

SPEAKER_05

Like, right, because you you guys are watching, like, dude, you're a husband, you should see the signs. You should know when you were in trouble when some shit's gone down.

SPEAKER_02

Once he saw Sun's face, because Jen's back was to him, so like once he saw Sun's face, he was like, Oh fuck.

SPEAKER_05

I done fucked. I just I done dipped in it.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

By the way, before I forget, this is this part when real life Julia Juliet would have got her teeth knocked the fuck out of her mouth.

SPEAKER_02

Seriously.

SPEAKER_05

I'm just pregnant or not pregnant, you will have got your ass beat. You're lucky there's no sidewalks and no concrete to smash your fucking face into. You would have got jacked up. I'm so sorry. She pissed me off.

SPEAKER_02

What is it like? Um the fuck is that movie? That shit gave me like nightmares. Um American graffiti.

SPEAKER_05

Um I haven't seen that in such a long time. I can't even.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but then bothered me.

SPEAKER_05

Because there's been so many people of like, oh, if I wasn't afraid of going to jail.

SPEAKER_01

Okie dokie then.

SPEAKER_05

But if anyone deserved it at this point, it would have been Juliet.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, that's still extreme, but but okay, not only I mean, it just the fact I don't want you to go.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, great. It's not safe, like, it's not the best decision. Right, get it. But I don't think you should go. So I'm gonna tell your husband you cheat on him. Like, it just the idea, like the reason behind it, it's a hubris. I'm gonna give you, I'm gonna show you what you like.

SPEAKER_02

I'm like, she deserves to get her ass kicked, but I'm just saying, maybe not too much.

SPEAKER_05

Well, that's there's sand, so you know, maybe okay, maybe not kicked, not like smashed into the concrete, but sometimes it's a good wallop.

SPEAKER_01

All right, yeah, I don't in the middle.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I wasn't gonna kill her, but good like wallops, like bitch learn your lesson. So every time you see that scar, you're gonna know you've done fucked up, and it's a lesson that you need to hear that you should have learned from by now. By the way, I'm from Brooklyn. I can't help it.

SPEAKER_02

Just in case, just in case you weren't sure yet. Jin and Bernard are fishing on the Outrigger when Bernard talks of some of the difficulties of marriage. Bernard then confides in Jin, telling him of how the island appears to have healed Rose. Bernard says that though Rose would like to stay on the island, she did not want to go with Locke because staying with Jack was the right thing to do. And good karma leads to good consequences. Upon Jin catching a fish, Bernard tells Jin it was karma and that they're the good guys. Or that they must be the good guys. Son and Juliet meanwhile talk as well. And Juliet convinces her that staying on the island really would kill her and her child. Later, Jin finds Sun and tells her he knows why she had an affair. Because he was the man he was before he came to the island. He says he's different now and he would do anything to protect Sun and their baby. He then asks her to tell him the truth about whether the baby is his. Sun cries and tells Jin that the baby is his. Now we're gonna go to the flash forwards. It's summer 2005. Sun is packing a suitcase and applying makeup while watching the Korean dubbed episode of Expose when she begins to feel pain. She phones for an ambulance and the camera pulls back to reveal that she is very far along in her pregnancy. At the hospital, two nurses comment to each other that Sun is one of the oceanic six. She's going into labor and the baby is, according to the doctor, in distress. Sun asks them to inform her husband and repeatedly calls for Jin, indicating her desire to not give birth until he arrives. Sun, distressed from the labor, mistakes a hospital visitor for her husband. First of all, how is she like mid-push and there's just like a random visitor walking past her door? Like, what the actual fuck? Did you not think that was weird? Did is it like it didn't click birth voyeurism in care?

SPEAKER_05

I'm uh I it might have been, I don't think I paid, I don't think I paid much mind to that. I don't know. Cause by then I think she's already like half drowsy and she's just like my husband. But the staff, like this right, I was already not focused on her and her speech patterns and what she was saying, how she was saying stuff. And I always had my own moments. I'm like, ah, so I kind of just I didn't I didn't I ignore it, I don't know why I didn't it didn't register, it didn't register for me, the random warrior. Unless the warrior is another I don't know, another something we need to remember from like future episodes. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

While the doctor debates with Sun whether to perform a cesarean section, the delivery room nurse informs the doctor that the baby has crowned. Soon, her daughter is born. Sometime later, Sun is back at her apartment. She removes the wedding ring from the hospital bag where it was placed just before the birth. She puts it on her finger. Son is applying makeup when she hears a knock at the door. It's Hurley in a formal suit who has come to see the baby. He asks if anyone else is coming and says good when she answers no. While admiring the baby, Hurley comments that she looks just like Jin. Then he suggests that the two should go visit him. They travel to a cemetery and stand in front of a tombstone with the date 92204 inscribed on it. Sun looks at the tombstone and tells Jin that she misses him and that she named their daughter Ji Yun as he w as he had wanted. The episode ends there and I don't know if you noticed, but like it it didn't end with like the doom. Like the you know, it's like Yeah, I did notice that. You know it really makes you feel like all that emotional shit, like I guess. I'm just saying, if you had emotions.

SPEAKER_05

I mean if I had emotions, then yes, I would have felt something at that moment. Yes. Okay, alright.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, this episode had flash backs and forwards. Season three is like, uh season four is like, watch what we could do.

SPEAKER_05

Right, they're like just through they threw everything in the pot and like let's see what comes up. Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Let's do like trivia notes and all the other stuff. Sun is watching a dubbed Korean version of Expose before she switches off the TV and calls the ambulance. Nikki and Billy D. Williams are briefly visible for split seconds. And this is the only episode where Nikki appears without Paulo. For what that's worth. I guess so. You by now you should know that when there's a TV, you have to look at what's on the TV. I missed it. Oh man. It's so brief, but it's the scene where they're in the office and Nikki is wearing like a little white trench coat. Like you literally just see it for like two seconds.

SPEAKER_05

Oh man.

SPEAKER_02

But it's enough because we've seen this scene before, so like when you see it, you're like, like, what's the relevance? It's not just gonna be random, you know.

SPEAKER_05

Ah shit. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Ji Yun means flower of wisdom.

SPEAKER_05

That's pretty.

SPEAKER_02

Actress Yunjin Kim, who plays Sun, played a character named Lawyer Yu Jun in the movie Se Boon Dei Ju. And I probably butchered the fuck out of that, and I'm sorry. I do not speak Korean.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, I you did it was a it was a very valid effort. If it even if you did butcher it, is a very valid effort.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'm sure it sounds a lot better if you know how to say it.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, I butcher English on a daily basis, so actually, me too.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Michael can be spotted on the boat before he's revealed as the janitor. When Regina jumps off the boat, the camera cuts to a group of people standing at the boat's edge. Michael appears to be the hooded member. And I'm like, was it? And then I'm like, oh yep, I saw him. Yeah, I did. But but yeah, once you know. And then it says Harold Perino had been credited as a main cast member for the previous six episodes.

SPEAKER_05

See, I saw it, but I didn't click. I'm so mad at myself.

SPEAKER_02

And many fans had already deduced that he was Ben Spy because of this. Except for Agnes. Except for Agnes. Jin's tombstone has the date September 22nd, 2004, on it, the day of the crash. And it also says that he was born November 27th, 1974, and son was born March 20th, 1980. This difference of six years is considered the least compatible according to the Zodiac.

SPEAKER_05

Uh okay. Okay. That actually. She knows which cat is talking to me by the way they sound. Okay, Lisa, we both have problems.

SPEAKER_02

Um when Sun and Jen are sitting at night by the campfire, day 95, Sun comments that it has been three days since Saeed and Desmond left the island, matching the helicopter departure at dusk on day ninety-two. The next morning, day ninety six, Saeed says to Desmond that three days ago, when Saeed was in Locke's camp, Ben told him there was a man on the boat, the same day the helicopter departed. This confirms there is a difference where Saeed and Desmond have experienced three days while the people on the island are experiencing their fourth day, matching the flight time discrepancy of a 20 to 40 minute flight landing a day and a half later in island time. Day ninety-five is Christmas Day 2004, and day ninety-six is December twenty sixth, two thousand four, which was also the day of the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami that killed over two hundred and twenty-five thousand people in 11 surrounding countries. Just a little like. Several hints are given that Jin's flashes are actually flashbacks.

SPEAKER_05

Um, like his phone. That's one of them, yeah. The phone was like mad old. Never mind, the obvious, and then he was saying that he was for Pac.

SPEAKER_02

Well, yeah, that was that.

SPEAKER_05

I was like, oh, wait, this is I was like, Well, my fuck. Like, wait a second, hold up. This that doesn't add up. How you like? So you you knew right then and there, like, okay, you're not for the kid's birth, but you're still working for the fuck yeah, something's up, and then the obvious, obviously, too much, but yeah. What else was what the hints were there before the obvious?

SPEAKER_02

So it says Sun is immediately recognized as one of the oceanic six when she enters the hospital, but no one pays it any special. It's attention to Jin.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Jin exhibits his characteristic pre-island violent temper when his cab and panda are stolen.

SPEAKER_05

Right.

SPEAKER_02

The year of the dragon reference implies a time frame between February 2000 and January 2001. Well, yeah, if you know the if you know, right.

SPEAKER_05

If you know it, I figure I the fact that he said that you said you're the dragon. I'm like, I should know this, but I don't like doing math. Like, it's I'm like, this is this is me, this is significant, but uh yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And then the cell phone and the been married for two months. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Cool.

SPEAKER_02

This is the first episode of season four to feature the flashbacks of an oceanic A15 Crash Survivor, even though they're mixed with flash forwards. Through the Looking Glass was the first episode to feature flash forwards, although until the end of the episode, the flash forwards seem to be flashbacks, and then this episode employs the same twist, but in reverse. This is the first time that Harold Perineau, Michael, appears in the series since Live Together, Die Alone Part 2, after a 29-episode span. So it's been 29 episodes since we've seen him.

SPEAKER_05

Oh no.

SPEAKER_02

This is Jin and Sun's first centric episode in which they do not appear together in any off-island scenes.

SPEAKER_05

It's funny how the time frame still bugs me out. Four years later, is actually in what two months, and still has me.

SPEAKER_02

Three months.

SPEAKER_05

I'm like, yeah, I'm like, oh, that's right, she's pregnant, but she's not pregnant. I mean, she's not like like she just found out she was pregnant. Like, technically speaking, she's like, it's a new pregnancy. I kind of like, oh yeah, forgot about that. Because I was talking about like two seasons ago. I'm more exaggerated, but it feels like it's been a minute since I was even brought up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. Okay, so we have um we have son now being confirmed for the oceanic six.

SPEAKER_05

So we're not five, right?

SPEAKER_02

Who are who are your five?

SPEAKER_05

I mean, it's her, Hugo, Kate, Jack, and there's somebody else. Wait, what the fuck, Agnes? Her? That's that's five, right? Her son, son, Hugo, Kate, Hugo, and there's somebody else. I counted who else was on the Saeed. Said, thank you. Okay, that's that's how we saw thus far, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yes and no.

SPEAKER_05

They talked about Ben. That's oceanic.

SPEAKER_02

Although not the explicitly named as the six, so we don't know if he's one of the six or not.

SPEAKER_05

Not Aaron.

SPEAKER_02

Well, yes.

SPEAKER_05

Because he wasn't part of the manifest, like he was born at the island. I I don't know. I was I would assume the on me personally, the oceanic six will be the people that were boarded the flight on the manifest.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, that's what I'm assuming.

SPEAKER_02

All right, so then we have five of them, or not, it depends. All right, but if it's five, who's you can take a guess? Who's the last one? I don't know. Um which I think after this episode we can conclude it's probably not Jen.

SPEAKER_05

I don't think so, because that his his date of death is the date of the of the of the of the crash, not like a day after. It was like after they got released, um, saved, released. Oh Freudian sleep. But like I feel like release is actually the the right terminology. Okay, so this there's Locke. I don't think Rose and Bernard are going to. I think they are what they are. I don't know. I don't see what they're even though they're like more than survivors, they're not a main character. I don't see them being one of the six.

SPEAKER_02

Um, and then this also sun throws a wrench in your theory about this is the survivors who settled.

SPEAKER_05

Right, right, right, right, right, right. Because obviously she's in Korea. Because I was so there really is just six. And I feel like I don't um who else is there that's one of the six? There's Sawyer, there's Locke.

SPEAKER_02

Sawyer, Locke, Claire, or not Claire.

SPEAKER_05

I don't think Claire, I don't think Claire made in my opinion. I don't think she made it because if if Kate has Aaron, okay. I have a feeling she doesn't make it.

SPEAKER_02

She also said that she could have made it and then she was the one whose funeral it was.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, that's right, that's right. Oh, that's true. That could be it. Um I mean, she's not part of the part of Oceanic Oceanic.

SPEAKER_02

She we know she wants to get off the island.

SPEAKER_05

So these people who are not part of Oceanica still get off the island, but they're not the Oceania 6.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, all right.

SPEAKER_05

Um, you know what? I don't know. I I don't know, and I feel like maybe that the whole clear that does make sense because no one made it, but they should have made it. Oh, I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, moving on. Regina appears on screen for the first time after previously being heard on the sat phone for several episodes. That was a short-lived character, huh? Same thing with Minkowski. I feel yeah, it's like we hear them, we hear them, and then they're gone episode.

SPEAKER_05

I feel like it's like it's like that movie Um The Ring. Once you hear the tape, like once you see the tape, you die. Once you hear the voice, they die. And by the way, when I saw that movie, I have rented it on video. Um, the ring at the video. So I'm like, this is creepy.

SPEAKER_02

There's a blooper. When at the end of the episode, when Sun takes her wedding ring out of the hospital bag, the bag is labeled with the name Kwan Sung Haya, Hiya, which is not Sun. Son's name. Which the the the name was written in Korean, so you would only, I guess, know if you can read Korean.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

When Jack asks Son how she feels, she tells him that the morning sickness has stopped, despite having told him the exact same thing in DLC, which took place 10 days before this episode. But I'm not sure that this is a blooper. It might be, but I like after reading that, I was like, but maybe she just told him that because she wanted like to dismiss him. But I will say this for Jack, right? While I'm not necessarily his biggest fan, I think he genuinely cares for the people around him.

SPEAKER_05

He's not a he's not like a bad guy. He's not a malicious, he's not evil, he's not a bad guy, he's not a narcissist in the sense that he's gonna be more complex, I think.

SPEAKER_01

Right, but he tries to live up to it.

SPEAKER_05

He tried, yeah. So he's not a bad guy, he's still not that person that I want to be friends with. He's not the person that I'm gonna hang out and have a beer with.

SPEAKER_02

I can't imagine having a beer with him.

SPEAKER_05

No, right, he's not that kind of person.

SPEAKER_02

The Red Sox? Fuck the Red Sox.

SPEAKER_05

And no, and no, I think it'll be back to him. I I think he's a type with like he thrives in martyrdom. I no, yeah, so like I said, he's not a bad person, he's just slightly insufferable. Can you be slightly insufferable? Or can you just either or either you are or you aren't? I don't know. It's one of those things like it's like it's not being almost pregnant or just a little pregnant, like I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, all right. We do meet the captain finally, and I feel like there was such a big big lead up to this captain, and it's just a record guy, sexy, but he is kind of cute, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

I think there was something, I think we could because like just being stuck on Loss's MO, you're about to see, like, oh shit, that's so and so from like three seasons ago. You expect that. Did I mention who owns the boat?

SPEAKER_02

But I knew I was right, so okay, and yet you missed Michael, but okay. I don't know how I did that. I don't know how you did that either, especially when you literally brought his name up. I was like, oh fuck, she figured it out.

SPEAKER_05

I don't know, I figured you know what that was, I think that was my subconscious way to so you can have a ha ha ha, I got it a moment.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, so you did it for me subconsciously.

SPEAKER_05

I think okay, I think that was I think that was yes fine because you know, because I'm convinced that my earth changes this um changes its axis and its rotation and the way you guys could see what she's doing with her hands right now, but like because like this is the north pole, this is the south pole, and this is how it rotates like this, but and then it turns and chases accents and then the polar bears are in the desert, got it right, but okay, if you actually had a globe and you saw it and you could see it okay, that I'm sure we can imagine plus the time, the space-time continuum and consciousness. Okay, that is kind of cool though. The way that they like the way loss does time travel as a form of consciousness is fucking amazing. That is like oh shit, I don't think anyone's done that.

SPEAKER_02

I am not a huge science fiction fan, like I you know, aside from like this, you know, this is like the epitome of like I don't know what the fuck this is.

SPEAKER_05

To me, this is like it's got everything, and it's it's a it's it's it's a smokish borg of genres, and I can't, it's mind-blowing. But if you like every time we think of time travel, everyone who does it and think about it's like you physically moving your body, your body changes, but the your consciousness, like but just your consciousness, the right that's so fucking I one is probably more probable than physical, like in the screen scheme of science, that's probably more possible. And the fact I don't think anyone's ever done that on TV. I don't remember. So I'm just I'm still like highly impressed. Like, cool fucking dose.

SPEAKER_02

You heard it here, folks. She's impressed.

SPEAKER_05

I don't know, I'm not using impressed.

SPEAKER_02

A professional TV watcher.

SPEAKER_05

That's the only thing I'm professional at.

SPEAKER_02

The cultural references. Captain Galt. It's a fictional sea, it's a fictional sea captain created by English writer William Hope Hodgson, a captain for hire. Galt is a morally ambiguous and mysterious character. A collection of his stories can be found in a book, Captain Galt, being the exceedingly private log of a sea captain, published in nineteen seventeen. Atlas Shrugged. Alternately, the name of the Kahanis Captain may be a reference to a character in Ayn Rand's nineteen fifty seven novel, which is a story about the producers, the movers and shakers in society who decide to go on strike because they are not appreciated by the masses, and create a separate utopian world, a village, quote unquote, hidden from view from people, plains and the world. Sound familiar? No, not at all. The Survivors of Chancellor. This is the book that Regina was reading upside down. It's a book about the last voyage of the British British The British ship Chancellor. At the beginning of its voyage, the Chancellor carried eight passengers and twenty crew members. By the end, only eleven people, five passengers and six crew remained alive. In the novel, several characters commit suicide, at least one of them by jumping off the raft and into the water.

SPEAKER_05

The fact that they commit suicide is not funny, but the connection is funny.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Towards the end of the episode, Jin tells Sun that she will never lose him. But in the flash forwards, we see her visit his grave.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, the two aren't mutually exclusive. They both could be right.

SPEAKER_02

Just because the irony of it.

SPEAKER_05

Right. The spouse passes, but you still she she has her, she has she has their daughter. She really has a part of him. So she really, you know, no, I don't know. I'm just very sentimental. Uh, I have feelings once in the blue moon. I think I don't know if it's the irony per se. I think on the surface, yeah, absolutely. Oh, damn. Look at the irony. But then she actually it's it it comes to pass because she has their daughter.

SPEAKER_02

But I think that it's more so the irony because the other things I'm gonna tell you are ironic.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, well, damn, Gina.

SPEAKER_02

It could be more than that. I mean, there's always a hundred meanings, so minimal. When Jin and Bernard have a conversation about marriage, it's the position contrast, right? Because Jin wants rescue to come to the island to save his wife, whose life is in danger if she remains on the island. But Bernard, on the other hand, is concerned about rescue coming for himself and Rose, whose cancer can con whose cancer can come back if she were to leave the eye the island. So it's like the like ironic things, like the justiposition kind of things, right?

SPEAKER_05

Right.

SPEAKER_02

The novel Regina reads is about a ship's final voyage at sea, and then where people also kill themselves, and then she does. On the island, Juliet tells Sun if she stays on the island, her baby will never be born. But then basically in the next scene, Sun gives birth to her baby in the flash forward. But for the most part, that's about it for this episode. The next episode is called Meet Kevin Johnson, which I assume you could figure out what it's about.

SPEAKER_05

No, no idea. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Do you have anything else about this one before we wrap up?

SPEAKER_01

Nope. Okay.
