SPEAKER_00

Hi, and welcome to Sassin's Tips. Today, we are starting our season six journey. Oh my god, do you ever think that we were gonna make it to season six?

SPEAKER_01

No, no, I did not. Because I thought I was gonna like flip a table long before this. I mean, I didn't run away for a minute.

SPEAKER_00

Today we're gonna start with season six, episodes one and two, LAX, part one and part two. I am Lisa, and I am sipping on one of those wines from my wine box. And I did a video on TikTok, so I'm gonna start to taste them and with my uneducated palate. But what are you sipping on?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I'm drinking petit coconut, and it's um from Aldi's, and it's a blend of white wine with rich coconut flavor and finest cream. It's really a dessert wine, but it goes well by itself straight from the bottle. Sorry. Wow, you and I have really switched roles today.

SPEAKER_00

I yeah, I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

You're the inappropriate mouse losing computer confusing Agnes and I'm all right.

SPEAKER_00

So I got a box of wine and I let them pick. And this one is Dave Harvey and it's a Merlot. It's I like red wine. I usually don't go for Merlot's, but let's see. I don't know how to describe wine. I drink it.

SPEAKER_01

Do you like it? Does it taste good to your palate?

SPEAKER_00

It's it's a little just a little tart for my taste. But the bottle will not be wasted. The bottle will be drink.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, then that's a win.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That's the only way I know how to drink wine. Do I do I like the taste? Yes. Do I drink the bottle? Yes. You know.

SPEAKER_00

Could I tell you if there's aftertones or undertones or sideways tones? I don't I don't know what any of those things mean. It's it's red, it's red, it's a little fruity. You're gonna say it goes down easy, and I was gonna say that's what she said.

SPEAKER_01

Right, because I I knew where it was going. I knew where it was going. And it's like, yeah, I'm not touching this one today. I'm going to be the responsible one. Oh, and by the way, I'm your co-host, Agnes.

SPEAKER_00

Didn't you say that?

SPEAKER_01

No, which I talked about what I was drinking.

SPEAKER_00

Oh God, we are seasons in, and we still can't do this.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe we'll get it in six season 60. Okay, that's our goal.

SPEAKER_00

Season 60 well, you really that next season is a whole new show. It's a whole new show with me. Wow. Yep. I know.

SPEAKER_01

I'm excited.

SPEAKER_00

I'm excited too. Any hot takes though?

SPEAKER_01

Before we I was a whole bunch of confusion, and then I'm like, fuck it. I'm not gonna be confused, I'm just gonna watch it. You know, because I know you I know you're gonna ask me, and you're gonna be like, Well, what did you think about what I don't fucking know, Lisa? I'm telling you right now, I don't know. I just watched it. I have no opinions, I have no guesses as to who, what, where, why, and how. I just watched it. All right, end of my episode. Thanks, guys, for listening.

SPEAKER_00

So when we did the recap, was it the recap or the end of season five, the finale episode? You said that you thought that the bomb was going to like reset it, and then they were gonna be on the plane and just it was just gonna land, but like back on the island.

SPEAKER_01

And so I guess it was kind of a both. It lands then you end up on the island, too. Yeah, I have I have an opinion about what's going on with this.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, do you want to say it now or do you want to say it later?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. I have two opinions. It could be either one, it is parallel universe. It actually did reset, okay, but the same time, it reset it twice. Like they're all now the same time. They're obviously now in 1997. No, not 2007, 2017, whatever. They're in present time. Well, the f the first time they were on the plane. Well, not on the island wise, they're together. Oh, okay, okay. They're no longer separated by 30 years. Oh, okay, okay. And then reset two is that the plane never crashed and it ended up. And I did say at one point that they're going to end up in each other's lives again, anyway, some way, some form, somehow. And you would see how they are kind of slowly connecting and they're merging together's lives. So it's either it was a reset, what a dual plane reset, or one of these uh situations. I'm thinking the whole plane situation is like a really bad dream. Like who shot JR? It was just a dream. The plane situation is just a dream.

SPEAKER_00

Spoiler.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, like 40 years later, if you don't know, then you don't need to know.

SPEAKER_00

Um just like just like that. You don't need to know.

SPEAKER_01

But go ahead. And that was it. So it was either reset or it was a dual reset or just a single reset as far as time, and the plane is just a dream. It was just a dream. I used to read Word Up magazine. Okay. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

On the island. No more jungle? Maybe. At the statue, the man in black, as Locke, picks up the bloodied knife that Ben used to stab Jacob. He tears off a piece of fabric. Ugh. He tears off a piece of fabric from the floor and uses it to clean the knife. He tells a visibly disturbed Ben that he can stop staring at the fire and Jacob is gone. Ben asks why Jacob didn't fight back, and he replies that Jacob must have known he was beaten. And then he asks Ben to go outside and tell Richard that he needs to talk to him. Ben is like, uh, but why? And Locke, well, you know, fake Locke, is like, that's none of your fucking business. Nunya, that's nunya. Meanwhile, outside, Ilana and Bram are discussing entering the statue with Richard. Richard tells them firmly that they cannot go in, and only those summoned by Jacob may enter. And Ilana is like, well, me and Bram were summoned to the island by Jacob, so obviously we should be allowed inside. Then Ben comes out of the statue and is immediately questioned by Alana and Richard. And he's like, um, Richard, Locke wants to speak with you. Richard is like, oh yeah, oh yeah. Richard, uh Locke wants to speak to me, and he grabs him and he throws him, and Ben ends up next to Locke's corpse. And Ben is like, oh, oh yeah. Loc is dead. Whoops. Whoopsie. Shortly after that, Bram why are you laughing at me?

SPEAKER_01

You have to ask.

SPEAKER_00

We're never gonna even get through this.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, we're not.

SPEAKER_00

Bram grabs Ben and holds- You said Bram, Graham grabs Ben. I don't okay. Bram grabs Ben.

SPEAKER_01

Do it again!

SPEAKER_00

No, I didn't.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Bram grabs Ben and hauls him back into the statue with him, even though Richard's protesting. Inside.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so the guy's name is actually Bram? Yes. I thought it was Graham. That's what I was gonna be because of like Bram and Graham. I thought you were like combining Graham and Ben and Bram. Okay, so you're correct. Who names the kid Bram?

SPEAKER_00

His mom. Inside the statue, Bram, along with Burnett, Wolf, and Salinger, people who have never had names before this moment, enter the chamber and point their guns at Deadlock, fake fake lock. Bram asks where Jacob is, to which he responds, Jacob is dead, and you know, now you're all free. Upon hearing this, Bram and his men become enraged and fire several shots at him. One appears to strike him, after which he disappears behind the column. Bram is investigating the room and he finds the bullet that was thought to have hit him lying on the ground. Confused, he turns around just as the monster enters the room. There's a brief firefight. Yeah, right. But the monster quickly overpowers three of the four men, killing them. Mind you, Ben is like, I'm this is my cue. And he he ducks for cover so fast. Not for nothing. But Ben is the kind of person, Ben Ben is almost like a rat. You know, they will know the escape. So if shit goes down, you want to follow Ben.

SPEAKER_01

Follow Ben to get out.

SPEAKER_00

Because he has no other goal than to save his ass.

SPEAKER_01

So that's not a horrible. No, no, no. I'm not saying no, but like some kind of, you know, I kind of Well, he's not gonna say you, he's not gonna save you, but if you follow upon it, but you need to take it upon yourself to know when to follow the rat.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. So the monster kills three of out of the four of them. Then Bram has a container of ash, which he starts to like spread around himself in a circle, which is supposed to protect him from the monster. So instead, the monster dislodges a chunk of rock from like above him, which knocks him out of the circle. And now the monster is like, fuck you. Now I got you. And he throws him through Jacob's loom where he's impaled by a piece of wood and killed. It's like he's kind of ingenious. Like he's like, all right, I got you.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. Hold my beer.

SPEAKER_01

Not mad at it. He's too, you know, he has skills. I mean, he's a smoke monster, and you know, he's supposed to kill Jacob. He's apparently the bad guy, but yeah, not mad at it. He's smart.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. And then, like, the impaling him on a piece of wood, I feel like was just even more like a fuck you. Like, you thought you could get me? I got you. After the fight, now back as locked, appears behind Ben and states, Sorry you had to see me like that. So now we're getting even more clues, right? Because now we know that the man in black is the smoke monster.

SPEAKER_01

Which makes so much sense. I'm like, why did I not get how can we not have seen that? Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

Ben, who is shocked, finally manages to ask, What are you? He says, It's not a what, but a who. He then tells Ben that John Locke was very confused when Beld when Beld, when Ben killed him, and his last thought was, I don't understand. As Ben grapples with these revelations, the man in black goes on to explain how sad and pathetic Locke's life was. He says his only redeeming virtue was to have been the only one of the oceanic A-15 survivors not to want to go back to their worthless pre-island life, but rather to stay on the island. And he finishes his speech to Ben by reflecting on the irony of this situation because, unlike Locke, he wants to go home. Then we see the flares from the temple, but we're not up to that yet. So let's do the temple. Okay, at the Swan in the Temple. The episode opens. Well, it does it's not that the episode opens, but when we when we make it back to the island, the first things that we see are Kate and Kate's in a tree.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, this is so confusing the way the synopsis is made as opposed to where the TV show, but the way it aired. Like the first thing you see gets so confusing.

SPEAKER_00

Because yeah, they're they're just doing like it's bisections as opposed to linear, line whatever. Linearly.

SPEAKER_01

That was that was the wine. I'm gonna let you know this coconut wine is really strong. Okay, so yes, I'm here with you.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so we get a Kate eye-open shot. Upon awakening, she nearly falls from the tree that she's hanging on to. She's up pretty high, she climbs back onto a branch, her hearing is muffled, she yells, shakes her head, and messes with her ears, but her hearing doesn't return. She climbs down, and the only sounds are of her breathing. Well, that and a high-pitched ringing sound. She says, Hello, and her hearing finally returns. She finds Miles who's also having trouble hearing. I can't hear you. Are your are your ears ringing? And he's talking louder than normal. Kate sees the broken airlock entrance to the Swan Station, but couldn't open it, realizing they're back in 2007. They trek back to the hatch to find it completely obliterated, just as it was after Desmond turned the failsafe key three years before, making it clear they are now in the present time.

SPEAKER_01

And also that the whole thing was for naught.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, we're gonna get there. She sees Jack and Sawyer lying. What happened?

SPEAKER_01

I said, Oh, but what but was it really?

SPEAKER_00

She sees Jack and Sawyer lying in the grass. She chooses to go to Jack's aid, and he shakes his head, wakes up. Sawyer kicks him and he falls down the hatch hole. Kate climbs. Well, they realize where they are, and Sawyer, pissed, doesn't begin to cover it. So Sawyer yells at Jack, You're wrong. He is furious, and you know, Kate's trying to like defuse the situation, and all Sawyer wants to do is kick Jack's ass. Hurley and Jin wake up next to the Dharma van with Saeed, who's still bleeding from the bullet wounds in his stomach. Jin steps out of the van and Hurley points out that the sky turned from day to night. Jin is like, mm, yeah, we've I've been through this before. We time traveled. Then they see the remains of the swan station, and Jack concludes that the bomb must have gone off, but Sawyer yells back that they wouldn't still be here if a nuclear explosion had occurred. Suddenly, they hear Juliet screaming from underneath the wreckage. They attempt to move it, but one of the beams is too heavy and it's blocking the way. So Sawyer tells Jinn to get the van so that they can use that to lift the beam. Meanwhile, Hurley is telling Said Well, no. Meanwhile, Hurley is tending to Saeed when Jacob appears from the jungle. He tells Hurley that he died an hour ago, and then he tells him that he needs to take Saeed and the guitar case that he gave him before to the temple. Jinn, together with Hurley and Saeed, return to the swan where they manage to remove the wreckage covering Juliet. Sawyer climbs into the hole and briefly talks to Juliet. She mumbles something about getting coffee sometimes and says, We can go Dutch. She then seems to realize where she is, and her last words are, I have to tell you something. It's really important. And then boom, dies before she can say it. Sawyer vows to Kate that he will kill Jack for being responsible for her death. And after tending to Said, Jack realizes that he will die until Hurley tells him that Jacob told him that they can save him by bringing him to the temple. Jack says, um, who's Jacob? And Hurley responds, and it's not important at that moment. He's like, Well, could you save him? And Jack says, No. He's like, right, then I will. Like, let's go to the temple. I feel like every season we get more and more people who are like, no, Jack, you're not in charge anymore.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think Jack gets that. I don't think he got that message. No.

SPEAKER_00

They they leave for the temple, who's um, and they're guided by Jin because Jin had been there before. Sawyer and Miles stay behind to bury Juliet, and Sawyer set tells Miles to communicate with her because he wants to know what was the important thing that she wanted to tell him. Miles doesn't want to, Sawyer insists, and then after the whole thing, Miles says that her message is quote, it worked. Do you think that she just means like the reset or I guess.

SPEAKER_01

Sorry, what else could she? Never mind, what else could she mean? She could mean a whole bunch of shit with these lost writers. But I chose to decide that that's what she meant. Because I'm not trying to speculate on lost.

SPEAKER_00

Gotcha. The remainder of the group make their way to the temple. They enter the temple via the hole at the base of the wall. Inside they find a skeleton missing an arm, which is Montan, and they take the book, which is a French copy of Soren Kierkegaard's Fear and Trembling. While making their way through the tunnels beneath the temple, Cat and Kat and Jake Kate and Jack hear whispers just before the entire group is captured by the others. They take the captured group to the temple. There they meet I forgot how you say his name. Is it Dogen or Dogen? But Okay. Yeah, but he's the Japanese leader. He's the one who doesn't like the way English tastes.

SPEAKER_01

Doesn't taste, he likes the way it tastes on his tongue. Yeah or in his mouth. Either way, but yes.

SPEAKER_00

Hurley tells him that Jacob sent them and told him to bring the guitar case. The guitar case is open, revealing a large wooden unk, which he promptly smashes. He's like, Did you look inside? And Hurley's like, maybe. Hidden inside the unk is a piece of paper. Dogan Dogen, I I can't remember how to say his name. That's bothering me now.

SPEAKER_01

It's um, oh, I was gonna say, since it's as a fictional character, I don't think you have to worry about offending anyone.

SPEAKER_00

No, but I mean, I just like it's bothering me that I can't remember how to pronounce his name. Um, he reads it and then asks for each of their names. Hurley demands to know what the paper says, and Lennon tells him that the temple dwellers will all be in trouble if Said dies. They also all like recite their names. They bring Saeed into the temple where a large spring bubbles in the center. Lennon comments that the spring is not running clearly. Dogin approach Dogin Dogen approaches the water, cuts his hand, and then submerges it into the water, noting that the water did not heal it. After informing Jack that there are risks, Dogen follows No. He orders his followers to submerge Said in the water and turns over an hourglass. Saeed appears to be revived, but Dogen refuses to allow his followers to lift Saeed out of the water until the timer is finished. It soon appears that Said is drowning. Jack protests, but when he tries to stop them, he's prevented. They're all basically like, no, no, no, no, no, like he's you're like you're killing him, you know? But they have to let him be. After the last sand grain falls, Saeed is lifted lifeless from the water. So Dogen announces I'm just gonna say sometimes Dogen, sometimes Dojrin, so at least I'll be half right. Dogrin leaves the survivors alone to mourn Saeed because he's like, Your friend is dead. Jack tries to perform CPR, but you know, nothing. Later, Cindy enters. Cindy, who is the flight attendant, you know, with the two little nips. She enters along with Zach and Emma, the children from the tail section. Those are the ones that like their their mom died or whatever. And like the Okay. Alright. Okay, anyway.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Miles and an unconscious Sawyer are also brought into the temple at this point because they were also captured. Hurley visits Dogen, where it is revealed that he understands English, but refuses to speak it as he dislikes the way it tastes on my tongue. After a brief conversation, Hurley reveals that Jacob is dead, which shocks Dogen and Lennon, who rush out of the room. The two issue orders to the rest of the others, who hurriedly pour lines of ash around the temple, barricade the entrances, and launch a rocket flare. Lennon reveals that they are not keeping the survivors in, but rather keeping him out. While waiting in the temple spring room, Hurley and Miles sit near Saeed's body. As Hurley says goodbye to his friend, Sawyer awakens. He tells Kate that he doesn't plan to kill Jack because he desers he deserves to suffer on this rock just like the rest of us. Lennon enters and asks to speak with Jack in private, but Jack argues and scuffles with several of the others. The fight is interrupted when all present are shocked to see Saeed sit up, very much alive. He pauses, confused, and asks, What happened? You have thoughts on Jacob?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know, I'm like, that's Jacob. I feel like Jacob came back through Saeed, maybe. Or Saeed's just alive, either one. But yeah. Okay. Because when they said if we don't save him, we're in we're in world shit. So I figured they're saving him, quote unquote, enough so that Jacob can. They didn't know they were saving him for Jacob, but I think Jacob wrote that. Yeah, so that, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. So now I go back to the statue, and the flares from the temple are seen from the beach as Ben and the man in black leave the statue. The remaining others lift their guns to shoot at the man in black, you know, fake lock, but are promptly haunted haunted, halted by Richard from taking action. Richard confronts the man in black who responds to Richard that it's good to see you out of those chains. Nothing.

SPEAKER_01

What about? Um I mean We'll we'll get we'll get that. Yeah, Agent Egypt slave. Okay. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Richard is stunned and replies you indicating some familiarity with who the man in black is. The man in black responds me and knocks Richard out, hoisting him onto his shoulder. He turns to the rest of the others, including Son and Frank, and shouts angrily that he is very disappointed with all of you, before making his way past the real John Locke's body. Next, we are gonna go back to the flashes. So back aboard Oceanic Flight of 15, Jack gazes out the window at passing clouds. Cindy, the flight attendant, asks him how his drink is, then smiles when he admits it's not very strong. She gives him a small bottle of vodka and asks him to keep it between them. Suddenly the plane begins shaking. We've been here before. The pilot announces they're running into some turbulence, and Rose, who's sitting across the aisle from Jack, assures Jack that it's normal and jokes that her husband always says planes are meant to be in the air. They chat for a while before the turbulence worsens, and Jack grips the armrest with an expectant look. However, the plane passes through, and Bernard returns safely from the bathroom, commenting, Remind me to hold it next time, will you? I almost died in the bathroom. Now I know how laundry feels in the dryer. Rose replies, I missed you. And Ruben No, hold on. Rose replies, I missed you. And Bernard responds, I miss you too, beautiful, and kisses her. So now we're in new territory. Because that would have been the moment.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the plane stood in half. He was in the other half. Yeah. Right. Good. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Jack gets up to go to the bathroom and inspects himself carefully in the mirror, noticing to his confusion a small bleeding cut on his neck. Going back to his seat, he meets a man named Desmond Hume, who switched to the seat next to him while Jack was in the bathroom. Now we know from before Desmond was not on the plane.

SPEAKER_01

He was on the plane. He was already on the island. So it was a little confusion there for me. Because I'm like, but yes. So it was a reset as if like it like it never happened. Like the like whatever happened to cause the button to be pushed never actually. So they did work. And this is so Desmond never had to go to the island on that race and never got straight. So it makes it made sense. But then, yeah. Off the drugs, Agnes. And no more drugs, more drugs.

SPEAKER_00

Jack struggles to remember whether they have met before, but neither of them can place it. But what's so what's weird to me is that when Jack met, remember, we we saw that Jack and Desmond had met in um, I forgot what stadium it was, but like Jack was there, Desmond was there, he was training, and they were California. Right. And so they had met before. So when they met each other in the hatch, they were like, You? You?

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

So it's weird that now why don't they have that memory of meeting in the stadium when they were the only two people in this giant stadium?

SPEAKER_01

And it was less less traumatic issues happening in the interim.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Like there's no gun pointed at your face. I feel like it might be easier to remember your right.

SPEAKER_01

There's like I didn't crash on an island and all of a sudden, right. Right.

SPEAKER_00

This mysterious tunnel into the ground, a gun at my face.

SPEAKER_01

Right. So interesting. I forgot about that part.

SPEAKER_00

The view then shifts out the window and down into the ocean. Once we get under the ocean, we see the remains of the island now submerged. There is the Dharma barracks, a security fence, a Dharma shark is seen swimming. And you're like, wait, what the actual fuck?

SPEAKER_01

The bomb worked. And that's what it makes you want to believe.

SPEAKER_00

Jack heads to the to the forward laboratory where Edward Mars waits for his quilt friend. Kate bursts out of the door and runs into Jack, apologizing and taking his pen before the marshal hauls her back to her seat. Then we see Kate getting her meal, but the marshal won't allow her a knife and fork. And was she like supposed to be like yum yum yum yum yum like a doggy? Like yum yum yum. Right. Or like, are you gonna feed her? I mean, come on.

SPEAKER_01

The whole situation's kind of a little stupid.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, yeah, she's a criminal, but my god, like a little dignity goes a long way. Anyway. Just then, Sawyer brushes past the marshal and Kate hides her hand under her tray table, presumab presumably to conceal her handcuffs. Sawyer shares a meaningful look with Kate before apologizing and moving on. He goes back to his seat where Leslie Arst is pestering Hurley to do an impression of a character in his Mr. Klux commercial. Arst finds it hysterical, then asks how a guy like him came to own a major corporation like Mr. Klux. Hurley replies that he won the lottery and happens to like chicken, leading a downcast arts to quickly excuse himself. Sawyer warns Hurley not to share his lottery. Oh my god. Sawyer warns Hurley not to share his lottery win with strangers, saying it will make them try to take advantage of him. But Hurley brushes it off. That can't happen. I'm the luckiest man alive. Which is another flip. Because Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm. I don't remember that being what he said before.

SPEAKER_00

Well, none of this technically happened. Yeah, I know. But but all the while he's like, no, I'm everything is bad luck. Bad luck, bad luck, you know, crazy, bad luck. Everything was always negative. Then we see Sun, who's smiling, and she gazes at Rose and Bernard, who are a few rows ahead. She tells Jen that they look so happy together. And Jin tells her to button the top of her sweater. John Locke is reading a safety brochure, leading Boone, who's sitting nearby, to say it won't be any use if the plane goes down in the ocean. John replies, a good pilot can negotiate a water landing, and the fuel tanks would keep the plane of would keep the plane afloat. Did I say that right?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, we did.

SPEAKER_00

Until the survivors could get onto the life rafts. They strike up a conversation, and Boone explains why he was in Australia, which was to get his sister out of a bad relationship, but she didn't want to come back with him. So we don't so Shannon is not there.

SPEAKER_01

Right. I'm like, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Locke says he went on a walkabout for 10 days in the Australian Outback, which impresses Boone. He's like, yeah, we were getting our own food, sleeping under the stars. And Boone says if the plane crashes, he's sticking with him.

SPEAKER_01

It's funny because Locke was very useful unless the plane did crash. So I find it like the irony isn't lost to me.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but also remember that ultimately Locke was kind of responsible for Boone's death.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's right.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_01

That's right. Ha ha ha ha ha. Okay, not funny, but ha ha ha ha ha.

SPEAKER_00

And it also kind of involved a secondary plane crash because remember it was the smuggler's plane. The smuggler's plane, right. Um, and then we see Frogart, who's sleeping in the seat next to Locke between him and Boone. Like Frogart, it just is like one of those things that he just keeps popping in, but like, you know, no real added value. Cindy makes an announcement asking for any doctors on board to press their call button and eventually comes over to Jack for help. One of the passengers has been in the lavatory for half an hour and is no longer responding to any knocks. Saeed pops up and he's like, I can help. Boom! Kicks the door down. They find Charlie Pace sitting unconscious on the toilet. Jack can tell that something is blocking his airway but can't reach it. He tries to use the pen in his pocket to perform a tracheotomy, but realizes it is gone. After a few minutes, Jack and Saeed manage to clear his airway, which was blocked by a baggie of heroin, and then they revive him. However, Charlie is displeased with Jack when he finds himself alive. I think he says something like, I'm alive, and they're like, Yeah, he's like terrific. As Charlie is led in handcuffs to his seat, he angrily tells Jack he was oh, he was supposed to die. Jack returns to his seat and notices Desmond is no longer sitting in his row. He asks Rose and Bernard where he is, but Rose simply responds that they were asleep. Captain Seth Norris announces that they are on final approach to Los Angeles and instructs the passengers to buckle up, leading Rose to remark to Jack that they are almost home. Said looks at a photo of Nadia as other passengers move their seats upright and buckle their seatplate seat belts. The plane touches down and pulls safely into the gate. Once there, police come to escort Charlie. Boone shakes hand with Loc before leaving. Rose and Bernard disembark very much a happy couple, followed shortly by Sun and Jin, whom both appear very unhappy. Kate leaves in handcuffs with Edward, leaving Jock Jock, leaving Jack and Loc as the last two passengers on the plane. Jack shares a nod with Loc before leaving, reminiscent of a similar nod they shared when boarding in Sydney. After Jack leaves the plane, two oceanic employees bring a wheelchair onto the plane and push a still paralyzed Locke off the aircraft. As a first-time viewer, we see that there are very big changes. I mean, Kate's still in handcuffs, but the for one, the plane landed. Number two, Shannon is not there. Locke talks about his walkabout, except he's still paralyzed. So it's kind of like, how do you make sense? Because some of the stuff is still true, some of it is still I don't like for the walkabout.

SPEAKER_01

I just assumed that Locke told the story of where it was what was supposed to happen.

SPEAKER_00

So they still like really pathetic Locke.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Okay. In my head, yes. And then but the whole the whole Shannon thing didn't make sense as far as storytelling. Like, okay, it's supposed to be a replay of the plane incident, not what led to the plane. For example, everyone should still be on the plane in theory, but what happens in air obviously changes. So apparently they couldn't get Maggie Grace back, so they had to switch, they had to swap that around a little bit. The actress's name is Maggie Grace, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. But um, everyone that was supposed to be on the plane is actually on the plane, except for her. Like everything leading up to it is still the same, except for what happens.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

What should have happened or not happened after like the crash. It I like to say in my head, like it tr it it unfolded as it would have had everyone landed in theory. In theory.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so we're gonna keep going. Oh no, so I'm wrong. Oh gosh. At the airport, Jack is paged to the Oceanic Airlines desk where representative informs him that his father's coffin apparently was not put onto the plane in Sydney, and they are uncertain of its current location. So Christian Shepherd was also not on the plane. Jack is obviously upset, complaining that the funeral is supposed to take place in two hours. Jin and Sun attempt to go through customs, and the officials are frustrated at their language barrier. Like, I'm sorry, but you're in Los Angeles, not in some teeny tiny little town. They don't have a fucking Korean translator. Like, this is not some random town in some tiny little language. How do they not have a translator? Okay, sorry. They find the watch that Jen is transporting and failing to understand it's a business gift, continue to search his bag where they find a pouch containing stacks of undeclared cash. The agent leads Jen away for questioning, and the other agent advises Sun, referring to her by her maiden name, Mrs. Pake, that if she knows some English and can explain, it would clear things up. Cause she's like, Well, is it maybe it's just a misunderstanding?

SPEAKER_01

That would ever happen, but okay. We're gonna go with it.

SPEAKER_00

But Sun appears to not understand. Meanwhile, after clearing customs, Kate talks the marshal into letting her go to the bathroom, where she attempts to pick the lock on the handcuffs with the pen that she took from Jack. The marshal discovers the spring from the pen on the floor, and he demands that she come out. Kate shoves the door open, pushing him down, causing him to hit his head on the sink, knocking him unconscious. She grabs the gun and the coat, but two women come into the room and Kate is like, oh, he just came in here and attacked me. And then she runs out. She runs into an elevator and Sawyer's in there. Sawyer notices her handcuffs despite Kate, despite Kate's attempt. Um, like he's too smart for you. Like, anyway. So two TSA employees come on the elevator and are alerted that there's a security issue. And Sawyer, you know, he's he's like, all right, like you can't be a convent if you're stupid. Right. He's like, oh, well, they they say that there's a code. And Sawyer's like, so what's the code mean? And they're like, oh, that's confidential. Sawyer's like, all right, well, how will I know what to look for? But okay. When the door, when the elevator door is open, Sawyer holds the door and says, ladies first, so that Kate can get away before the TSA employees realize who they're looking for. Once out of the elevator and in baggage claim, Kate notices the employees are looking for her. She sneaks into an employee-only area, which she uses to get outside without having to use the main doors. From there, she tries to get a cab. However, she's told by an angry frog that there's a line. So she gets in line behind Hurley and Edward Marseit her. She hops into the back of an already occupied cab and demands the driver leave at gunpoint. And who's sitting beside her? Claire. In a small oceanic off in a small oceanic airlines office, Jack speaks back and forth on the phone with his mom, who apparently never wanted to hold the funeral directly after his body is transported. However, Jack says he just wanted to get it over with soon and explains the rest of the situation to her. Jack meets Locke, who is finishing up filling out paperwork on his case of knives, which the airline has also misplaced. Jack tells Locke, wait, Jack tells Loc, Oceanic lost his father because they can't locate his coffin. He tells Jack that Oceanic has no idea where your dad is. The airline lost his body, not his dad. Seemingly grateful to hear this perception of the ordeal, Jack notices Locke's condition and asks him about it. And he's like, you know, I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude. It's just that I'm a spinal surgeon. And Locke says that his condition is irreversible, and Locke, and Jack says nothing is irreversible, demonstrating a noticeably different attitude than the Jack who boarded the A15 the first time. He offers him a free consultation, giving him a business card and giving him a business card and holds the door open for Locke to wheel out. I mean, there's a lot. There's a lot, but like we're starting to wrap stuff up, so there has to be a lot, right?

SPEAKER_01

I guess. But it was a good show. It was a good episode.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I approve.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. And you know who also wasn't on the flight?

SPEAKER_01

I'm sure there's a lot of people that weren't on the flight. Were they not on the flight or just not shown?

SPEAKER_00

Well, that's true.

unknown

That's true.

SPEAKER_01

Like, you know, if they couldn't get them on the flight.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, we saw Claire at the airport. We didn't see her on the flight. We didn't see Shannon. We didn't see Michael, Walt, Nikki, Paolo, Scott, and Steve. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, but doesn't mean they weren't on the flight though.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Right. And and then also the tail section people, right? Anna Lucia, Echo, Libby. Right. So, um, you know, we just we don't know at this point what, you know, what what is going on?

SPEAKER_01

That's not necessarily a flag for me. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I'm just like, they couldn't get all the actors back, or there's no need for them to get back. It's not in it's not an integral part of the show, per se. Or it could be some shit's gonna happen next to episode or two. It could go either way, it could be just a matter of not important to the conclusion to no, we're just gonna psych you out.

SPEAKER_00

The police code 341 that was heard in the elevator is the code for discharging firearms. But that's weird because Kate didn't shoot the gun. I mean, she stole the gun, she didn't shoot the gun.

SPEAKER_01

Interesting.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01

Very interesting. And also, all codes are not. The same, like nationally. Not everyone uses the same codes for everything. I guess. So there's that. After like there's some there's some that are just I think that everyone knows what 1013 is in 357, but I think that like other ones are just kind of like no random thoughts of a rambling black woman.

SPEAKER_00

After Saeed supposedly drowns in the temple water, Miles is seen looking at his body strangely, which Hurley takes note of. This was foreshadowing the fact that Saeed is not actually dead, since Miles was most likely wondering why he couldn't hear Saeed's last thoughts before drowning.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm. I thought that too.

SPEAKER_00

For this episode, there was no guest cast list given before the airing of the episode in the press release, so that they would avoid spoiling the episode.

SPEAKER_01

Makes sense.

SPEAKER_00

Did you notice any differences with the whoosh sound?

SPEAKER_01

Nothing that I paid attention to. No. I'm sure you're gonna tell me.

SPEAKER_00

This is the first season premiere in which all main cast members appear since Pilot Part 1. Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly are the only two actors to appear in every season premiere of the series.

SPEAKER_01

Well, aren't you special?

SPEAKER_00

Emily De Raven, uh, who plays Claire, appears for the first time outside of stock footage since season four's episode There's No Place Like Home Part Three, after an 18-episode absence.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, she did leave her baby, so you know.

SPEAKER_00

So she rejoins the main cast, and then recurring guest stars, Nestor Carbonell, Jeff Fahi, and Zulika Robinson, who play respectively Richard, Frank, and Ilana are now promoted to main cast.

SPEAKER_01

Richard should have been he should have been a main cast last season. I have to get it.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I think there was some thing that he was supposed to be like he he had like gotten a job on another show, and then the other show didn't work out. So then he came back to Lost. I don't remember where, if that was like season three or whatever, like I don't remember where, but I know that that had happened at one point. Well, you were right about Maggie Grace. Originally, she was set to make an appearance, but was unable to film any scenes due to her busy schedule. Thus, the backstory was rewritten to accommodate this.

SPEAKER_01

I am a professional TV watcher, and as a result, I could tell at the little nuances with, you know, yeah, I'm I don't know, I'm just talking out my ass.

SPEAKER_00

Cindy, Zach, and Emma, um, Kimberly Joseph, Mickey Growl, and Kirsten Havlock appear for the first time since season three's The Brig.

SPEAKER_01

And the chip for all about them.

SPEAKER_00

And obviously, we've seen some dead characters come back. Seth Nor um Greg Grinberg Grin Grinberg is the pilot, Seth Norris, uh, Daniel Roebuck, who plays Leslie Arst, Sean Wheelan, Frogart, uh, Frederick Lean, Edward Mars, um, you know, and then just like whatever background extras. Um Charlie. Right, Charlie Boone, and obvious ones. Alright, so like there's some life and death stuff, right? Juliet dies. Saeed dies and comes back to life. Charlie nearly dies, but then is revived. Sawyer threatens to kill Jack. I mean, we know Jacob is dead. I mean, we knew it, but like we didn't know it, but now we know it, you know.

SPEAKER_01

You know, I know.

SPEAKER_00

Bram and some of the other Losties 2.0 are dead. And also, like, seeing the temple scene, I guess now it's kind of it kind of gives us some information on how they saved Ben when he was a kid.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because they said to take him to the temple.

SPEAKER_01

And they said he'll never be the same. And he wasn't.

SPEAKER_00

It says some of the cultural references, Earth X, but I don't remember where this was in the in the episode. This is X is commonly used in comics, comic books, including Marvel Comics, which have an alternate history timeline called Earth X. DC Comics also had two parallel Earths with similar names. Earth X introduced in 1936, and Jimmy Eulson's Earth X introduced in 1966. I'm trying to think, was Hurley reading a comic book?

SPEAKER_01

Maybe that's what it was, but it's funny you mention that because I was talking about two parallel universes happening simultaneously. I've been saying that for a couple of seasons, though, by the way. Maybe I'm not so maybe I'm not as crazy as I think I am.

SPEAKER_00

Haroon and the Sea of Stories. Desmond is reading this book by British Indian writer Salmon Rushdie. It is a fantasmagorical story set in a city so old and ruinous that it has forgotten its name. It's an allegorical story about a 10-year-old boy in an imaginary world called Kahani, and his father is a storyteller. After his mother leaves his father, the father is unable to tell stories anymore. There is a water genie who controls the ocean and the stream of stories. Harun is the Arabic for Aaron. The book encountered in the temple is this influential philosophical work by Danish philosopher, theologian and psychologist Soren Kierkegaard, published in 1843 under the pseudonym Johannes de Silentio. John the Silent. In the book, through alternative retellings of the biblical story of Abraham and the binding of Isaac, Kierkegaard examines the role of faith and its relationship with morality and ethics. The title is a reference to a line from Philip Philippians? Philippians? How do you say that?

SPEAKER_01

I have to look at it. Philippians?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. 212. Continue to work out your salvation without with fear and trembling. Philippians? I guess.

SPEAKER_01

Let's go with that.

SPEAKER_00

Pool of Bethesda. The pool at the temple bears a striking, a striking similarity to this pool in Jerusalem, commonly associated with healing. The name comes from the Hebrew Beth Hezda, meaning house of mercy or grace. In both Hebrew and Aramaic, it can also mean shame or disgrace. So at Comic Con in 2009, Damon and Carlton promised that a new device would be introduced, which we could uh guess with like relative, you know, whatever, that it's the timeline. So in this episode, Rose is reassuring Jack. But if you remember in the original, Jack was the one who was reassuring Rose. Okay. Because Rose was the one who was afraid. And Jack, Jack remember, said something like, Oh, I'll I'll stay with you until your husband gets back. Because then it carried on into the island. And she was like, I'm letting you off the hook because they assumed that the people in the tail section were dead, and her husband, you know.

SPEAKER_01

So this actually makes sense. Because if the hatch the incident never happened, right? Okay, this okay. And what we know that the main characters, Jacob, has popped in and out of their lives at one point in time. Some way, some form, somehow, right? Now, since the incident never quote unquote happened, okay, we can assume that Jacob has popped into everyone's lives. We can say to assume, whether we saw it or not.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Since the incident never happened, he may not have had the need to pop in for whatever reason to pop in and out of their lives. So, whatever reason they he popped in, like this is what caused the change in the airplane now. Because certain events may not have happened in their lives, and they put them on a very like a slightly different path. So, yeah, now Rose is comforting Jack. Now, you know what I mean? Little things. Shannon doesn't need, she's like, no, I didn't need saving, whatever the case may be. So this, because the incident never happened, and then the plane never crashed, this was the way it was supposed to go. This is the way, this is the way, this is the new timelines.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, now I'm going back to sleep now. Except for half a second.

SPEAKER_00

Before Saeed shoots young Ben, Ben is taken to the hospital and saved, and then Ben's father shoots Saeed, and then Said is taken to the temple and saved.

SPEAKER_01

What a beautiful circle of life we have here at Lost.

SPEAKER_00

Uh we talked about Bram being killed by the, you know, impaled by the wood. And I think it's funny that he's impaled by the wood like a vampire, and like Bram stokers Dracula.

SPEAKER_01

Bram, yeah. Now that guys know how we feel, we get impaled by the wood. Not always pleasant.

SPEAKER_00

Um we've been told by Ben and Richard that dead is still dead, right? Like once you die, you die, like whatever.

SPEAKER_01

There's always exceptions to the rules.

SPEAKER_00

But Saeed managed to managed to come back. So But was he really dead, dead? Well, he was pronounced dead by the dead.

SPEAKER_01

This was you pronounced doesn't mean you were actually dead, dead. Okay. Shit happens. Weirder things have happened.

SPEAKER_00

It's a little bit of irony because when Hurley met Jacob off the island, he thought he was dead because he sees dead people, but he was now that he sees them when there's a lot when he's actually dead, he assumed he was alive.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's funny. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That that's gonna do it for this episode. The next episode is called What Kate Does. Is there anything else before we wrap this one up?

SPEAKER_01

No. Okay. I think I said my two cents worth of inf my opinions. Okay. And I'll give you back your change later.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I want to say that we got a little um a little bit more like some new stickers and pins and stuff in. Ooh. And yeah, we're we're trying to get on the train early to prepare for podfests. So we we got some yeah, we got some stuff in. And we're also really trying to encourage you guys to use that text us feature in the show notes. Hint hint.
