Hi and welcome to this episode of Sass and Sips. Every week we will be discussing and dissecting an episode of Lost in Order. And today's episode is Maternity Leave. We are your hosts. I'm Lisa. And I'm Agnes. And we drink. While we Sass and Sip.
SPEAKER_00We don't drink enough. I think that's the problem.
SPEAKER_02I think that's the problem. Mm-hmm. What are you drinking anyway?
SPEAKER_00Okay. So what I used to drink when I was young, and I just wanted to just relax and not get drunk. I always used to get a long beach iced tea. A long beach instead of Coca-Cola, they put cranberry juice.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00That's a long beach iced tea. So Agnes has, I like cranberry juice.
SPEAKER_02Me too.
SPEAKER_00So I have my cranberry juice. And remember those little shot bottles I had of the drinks? Yes. I have a long island iced tea. Oh so what I'm going to do is kind of combine the long island iced tea and the long beach iced tea and hope it goes well.
SPEAKER_02Take a sip, take two sips and see how it's in your mouth. And see how it's like.
SPEAKER_00You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to just pour it in here and just boss it a wallet and it's like, whatever it is, I'm going to drink.
SPEAKER_02That works.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02Well, I took a page out of your book and I threw a little patron uh cafe or cafe patron or whatever the hell it's called.
SPEAKER_00Yes. In my coffee. So fucking jealous. Because I think I have a little bit left of the not the cafe, the XO. And I I I don't I don't dare part with it as of yet. Let's see. Ready? Okay. It's a pretty color. Mm-hmm. Tastes good. I just needed the whole bottle. I was trying to Yeah.
SPEAKER_02No, no use trying to cut be conservative.
SPEAKER_00Well, you know, these little shots are like, well, they're still like 20% 20% proof. They're 25% proof. I mean, so it's not like it's more than a wine cooler.
SPEAKER_02So today's episode is maternity leave. It focuses on Claire. Hi, Claire. So did you get what you wanted out of this episode? How do you feel about it?
SPEAKER_00I still feel so fucking confused. I feel like there's so much I'm fucking missing. I'm like, I would I left out of it more confused than I went into it. In fact, I wasn't even confused. I was just like curious. Now I'm like, but wait, what? Oh, I don't know. I felt stupid, dumber than normal.
SPEAKER_02Are you ready to get into it?
SPEAKER_00I I guess. I don't know if it's gonna make any myself clearer, but I'm ready.
SPEAKER_02In flashback. So actually, in this episode, all the flashbacks are on island flashbacks.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02They are they focus on what happened when she was taken. In flashback, Claire lies in a medical room as her physical state is examined, casually discussing her baby. As the quote unquote doctor retrieves medicine, he is revealed as Claire's kidnapper, Ethan Rom. Injecting a bemused Claire, the shocking sensation causes her to jump back to reality. Later, Claire is again in the medical room, now notably more delirious. Ethan once again injects her with the substance, and a drugged Claire makes no attempt to stop him. She is then led along a corridor outside, noticing both a hatched doorway and a Dharma logo. Ethan brings her to a nursery room which is filled with colorful toys and pictures. She wonders about Charlie, and Ethan explains that he let him go back.
SPEAKER_00Liar. Lie! You sit in a throne of lies.
SPEAKER_02Moving towards a crib, Claire turns on a mobile covered in toy airplanes. As the music plays, Ethan excuses himself to speak to the man who took Walt from the raft, shown clean-shaven and dressed in clean clothes for the first time. He verbally scolds Ethan for not following his orders in making a list before kidnapping Claire, and the two argue as Ethan defends himself by pointing out that the survivors had a flight manifest. He closes the door. Claire overhears the man speaking about him and worryingly musing about what might happen when he finds out.
SPEAKER_00I want the boy. Give me the boy.
SPEAKER_02Three things. Okay. That's one. We see him now. This is the third time we see him. And he looks completely different.
SPEAKER_00He's I didn't recognize him. I didn't recognize him until it didn't click until later on the episode. Okay. I think I know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Okay. Number two. Ethan is a doctor. Do you think he's actually a doctor? Do you think that this is like what do you think is going on with Ethan?
SPEAKER_00Is he a doctor or is he a doctor? I don't particularly know. Oh, I didn't even think about it any further. Because it could be anything. Because listen, the others are fucking bananas. So I I I with them, it doesn't make sense to even try to figure out anything. You just have to go with the flow.
SPEAKER_02Okay, and then the last thing is they they talk about him.
SPEAKER_00Him.
SPEAKER_02Any any guesses, any thoughts, any anything?
SPEAKER_00I think it's convenient that the episode before you magically meet Henry Gale. And all of a sudden you like him. I like so going by lost history, I think Mr. Gale is him.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Lost is smart. The fake out though. But he's smart. He's also very smart because you see Lost is the long con.
SPEAKER_00The whole fucking series of long con. You're like, fuck me, I'm done. You just take my my my take my brain, take my sanity. I don't want it anymore. But you see later on in this, you saw the the end of last episode, his little smirk, and you see later on in this episode, you're like, mm-hmm. This ain't no dummy. Um, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, one one other thing. When Claire is in the nursery, the mobile that's there has a bunch of toy airplanes, and the song that it's playing is the song that she wanted the adoptive couple to sing to the baby.
SPEAKER_00I think it didn't click to me. I was I think this is one big fantastical dream like the Division of Ours. Like this whole thing.
SPEAKER_02How do you think right how so how that's the way you make sense of it?
SPEAKER_00Is that it's one big horrible dream. Or like my epiphany from the end of season one, they're already fucking dead. They're dead. The whole island is one big purgatory dream. Yeah, that's it. It's a dream purgatory. I don't fucking know.
SPEAKER_02Or maybe some like everybody else who watched the show in real time.
SPEAKER_00Like, this shit sucks. It's just like I I I don't it it's just for me, it's just so much going on. I wondered, to be fair, I wonder if I didn't have to digest it and just and break it down, would it be more endurable? Or the fact that we're breaking it down drives me fucking crazy. I'm like, I it's illogical. Or maybe a combination.
SPEAKER_02I think it's a combination. And the reason I say it is because if you were just watching it back to back, you you'd probably have that feeling of like, oh, let's get to the next episode. And you'd get um you you'd get answers quicker to things, and you'd see progression quicker, but you would miss a lot of stuff, and so then you would end up missing out on those reveal moments and those connections that would be satisfying, and you wouldn't you wouldn't have that because it would mean nothing to you.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so question those who are watching it who that watched it in real time, did you miss a lot of those connections? Or was it an aha moment when they connected it for you? Or do you just never saw the connections?
SPEAKER_02Um there were things that I definitely missed because when okay, so I watched it in in real time. So in the beginning of every episode, there was the previously on Lost. Which you don't really see when you're watching it now on Hulu.
SPEAKER_00Because you're it's back to back, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So there they would put, like, they would show you clips of things that were about to be important, and so then it would be like a refresher, like, oh, wait, you know, and then and then you would start thinking about why that was important, but even still, there were so many things that I've caught while watching again that I never thought to catch. Like even this time around, I never caught on to that scene with Locke, with uh remember when he in the in the episode where Claire is kidnapped, and and she sees him and he's with the two different color eyes, and the lamp is the same. All these years later, I've seen that episode a few times, but it wasn't until doing this that I realized even more connection.
SPEAKER_00Here's there was an advocate. How much is connection and how much is just a happy accident from the writers? Well, I'm sure that's that intention. I'm gonna talk about that specifically. I wonder how many just is like, yeah, uh-huh, that's what we meant.
SPEAKER_02My guess is that my guess, and I I don't know if this is a fact, but my guess is that as they were writing for the show, they were intentionally trying to build on things that had happened.
SPEAKER_00So they picked different things and then built on they pick random things and built on those random things. So when they wrote those things, it meant shit. They they but like two or three episodes later when they're writing it, they're like, okay, let's just use this and make it make it right.
SPEAKER_02Like they might have had a plan, and for the things that they didn't have a plan with, they might have just decided to revisit some stuff.
SPEAKER_00I'm like, hey, let's just pick this up and let's make this relevant. I can see that happening.
SPEAKER_02Because I I I feel like there could be coincidence, but how much could possibly be coincidence versus intentionally like a red herring or something?
SPEAKER_00It's just so many different things. I'm like, how I don't see it being possible that they wrote X and like okay, we're gonna write X and we're gonna make a plan for X in four episodes from now. Like it's just so many different things, it's like I don't see that being feasible.
SPEAKER_02I think I I my guess is that as the writers progressed maybe some serious movies. Well they had I mean they had they they obviously had to have a showrunner and a grand scheme of things, right? Right, absolutely, but then as the writers would write for the episode, depending on who the writer was, they decided, oh, I you know, I want to explore this. They they had the destination, maybe, but not necessarily which highway they had to take.
SPEAKER_00Right. But it's so funny. I kind of want to ask one of them, like, okay, of all the the theories out there, which one you all were like, uh, okay, not our intention, but let's go with it. Like, I would have asked them. I'm sure there's at least one or two out there that people like, yes, this is their plan. They'd be like, okay, that works. Let's go with it.
SPEAKER_02I would I would love to get one of the writers on the show. That would be cool. Yeah. But I I think that even if we could pull that off, we probably would have to wait until a little later because for sure something would end up getting spoiled for you.
SPEAKER_00I don't care. I it would leave me so fucking confused. I was like, that's it, I gotta watch now. It'll just leave me intrigued. Like okay. No? Okay. Like, no, shut up, I can see.
SPEAKER_02So in the in the last flashback, oh no, this is not the last flashback. In the nursery, Claire finishes crocheting a sock for her unborn baby. Ethan enters and sneaks her out for a walk. They stop at a tree stump, sitting down as Claire hobbles about, undoubtedly a result of the drugs. Ethan offers her a canteen.
SPEAKER_00I don't know what the hell they gave her, but I'm I want some of that shit. There were days where I'm like, I want to be I want to be loopy. But yeah, um I'm like, can I have some more, please?
SPEAKER_02Ethan offers her a canteen, and as Claire drinks, she comments that the liquid inside is extremely sour. As the two chat, Ethan tells Claire that he wants her to be sure about the others taking her baby and that they are good people. At night, a teenage girl awakens Claire, who tells her to be quiet. She says that Claire has to get out of there and tells her that the others are planning to cut her baby out of her. As a drugged Claire struggles crying for Ethan, the girl uses chloroform to knock Claire unconscious. As Claire blacks out, she is told, one day you'll thank me for this. Claire wakes up in the jungle where she hears Ethan, who is with the others, shouting for her. Danielle Rousseau emerges from the dark, pleading for her to keep quiet as Claire repeats that she's sure about giving them her baby. Claire puts her hand over, I'm sorry, Rousseau puts her hand over Claire's mouth, and a struggle ensues between the two, during which Claire badly scratches Rousseau. Her response is to knock Claire down, rendering her unconscious by hitting her with the butt of the rifle. Now we know how she got the scratches. And why does everyone like hitting people with the butt of the rifle?
SPEAKER_00Why waste a bullet? I mean, yeah. Like you don't want to kill him, you don't want to knock someone else, and like not like there's a whole bunch of statues laying around, you know. Wow.
SPEAKER_02In the present day, Claire stroll the beach trying to calm an unsettled Aaron, but becomes worried when she notices that he is developing a fever. Enlisting the help of John, who offers to get Jack from the hatch, she waits by her tent. At the hatch, Locke informs Jack of the events, and the two swap shifts so Jack can tend to Claire and Aaron. Back at the beach, Claire hears a noise and turns to find not Jack but Rousseau. Remembering the last time Rousseau came near Aaron, Claire shouts at the French woman to get away from her. When Rousseau comments that Aaron is sick and that Claire doesn't remember, she experiences a series of extremely short flashbulb memories from times she cannot accurately recall. Amongst many images, she sees a syringe, a teenage girl, and herself scratching Danielle's arm. As she stands stunned, Kate intervenes, forcing Rousseau to leave at once. As Kate moves to see if Claire is alright, the young mother tells her that Rousseau has said there's something wrong with him. With Jack back from the hatch, Claire argues with him that something could be terribly wrong with Aaron's help. Though she tells Jack that he's okay, that she's okay, she still seems extremely worried.
SPEAKER_00The next morning Jack and the whole dismissing of her fears and her worries. He says it's Rosiella. They've been stressed in this island for all for about two months now. So while this is quite common in babies, and normally you're only contagious for like two, three weeks. Whatever. Let's say someone on the island was sick, whatever. Um they've been secluded for almost two months by this time. So how the fuck is Rosiella possible? And he's like, oh, that's just this. But it can't be this mysterious disease that granted, no one else is sick, but it has been taught that people have been sick by it. He knows that it's been so why is one infection possible when you've been secluded, but the other one's totally impossible. Well, and I feel like it's like they're right here because he's talking, he like you can't have it both ways, Jack. He felt I feel like he's in 20 and 20 right now with the talking at double talking at your ass.
SPEAKER_02But on one hand, most times, like you're a mother, you know, you have a child, I have kids, you understand that feeling when something happens, and you just you just don't know, especially when it's your first. Absolutely. You just don't know, and everything worries you. Now, she's also on an island, there's there's like mysterious sickness, you got a crazy bitch telling you that something is wrong with him. I could understand her fear. Now, on Jack's side, as aside from the doctor, most doctors and please send your hate mail to me. But I feel like every time that I've taken my child to the doctor when they're sick, the doctor is usually like not overly concerned. Like, oh don't worry, it's just this, and you give them a little Tylenol and they'll you know, whatever. And I'm not one to rush to the doctor, I'm not one to like overly medicate, but it but I don't sleep. I keep them next to me. I'm like a hawk watching every in case I have to react. And I understand that fear of not understanding, and a baby can't speak and say, It hurts here, it hurts when I do this, or I feel worse, I feel better, whatever it is, but so it's really hard. And Jack should have at least knowing that you're in such extreme circumstances, it's not like you can run to the pharmacy and grab some children's motrin. Right, you can't, you can't do anything, you're at the mercy of this island, and he he should have just been a little bit more gentle with her, you know, and but we know that he has no bedside manner, none.
SPEAKER_00I don't and like it's just it's but he's the only one, it's like almost a lot of doctors that way, very dismissive. And I feel like they get to the point for them, and they get to the point, oh, you guys don't you guys wait till last minute to come to the doctors. Well, when we do come, you're dismissive to us. Like you as a as a whole, you cannot get it both ways. You can't say come when you feel we don't feel something's right, but same time to be dismissive and just sometimes write out.
SPEAKER_02If you could even get an appointment, could you come?
SPEAKER_00I mean, before all this drama happened, I personally have never had problems getting appointments to see doctors, especially especially in emergencies, even with just a regular, I think I've I've been blessed that I've been able to get me.
SPEAKER_02It depends. Like my primary care, he's very popular. I've I've gone to this man for like 20 years. I I I love him, he's great. But a lot of people love him. So when it's a routine visit, you know, I schedule my checkups at the checkup or whatever. So you're like you're advice? But if I need to see him like because I'm not feeling well or something, it's hard to get an appointment for okay. So side note, I'm having my foot surgery literally two weeks from today. So I have to do my pre-op stuff. And their office is op only open like a couple days a week. Cause he sh he sh well they share the office with a different doctor. So mine is, you know, so I called yesterday because that was the day that he was in, and the secretary is wonderful, she's so nice, you know. And she's just like, okay, you can come in on Wednesday, not today, but you know, next week. And I was like, you know what, thank you so much. And she's like, um, she had to give me an appointment before hours. Because otherwise, so now he's gonna come in before his hours even start to do my pre op stuff because I need like an EKG and blood work and whatnot, just so that I can get in on time because otherwise there's no way that I would get an appointment because he's so popular.
SPEAKER_00My biggest problem with my doctors, most of my doctors. Um they quickly move on to bigger and better things, like head of fucking state, like head of fucking like um like global initiatives and shit. Like I was like, because I picked too good of a doctor. Like I'm like, okay, seriously?
unknownStop.
SPEAKER_00Stop being so fucking awesome. Yeah. Oh, what a problem. I know. I have great taste in the doctors. My taste in men, whoa, total end of the spectrum. Um just date the doctors. I always like female doctors, and I like men, so you know.
SPEAKER_02Well, maybe it's time for a change.
SPEAKER_00I'm at the point where I think I'm anti-people. I don't I think I've gotten to the point where I think me and love just don't get I don't think it's meant for me. I am Destin's spinsterhood. And maybe I'll find that on my life at Shady Pines when I get to be a senior. I don't know. But thank you. But I've given up.
SPEAKER_02I bought a golden girls trivia game, like a trivial pursuit, but it's golden girls. Nobody wants to play with me. I play? Yeah. But you're in the computer. Oh. You would need your own. I don't know how to do that.
SPEAKER_00How do I do that? Oh, okay. Oh, we're gonna play taboo again, by the way.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that was fun. Okay, let's plan it.
SPEAKER_00Okay, back to the episode.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I'm just gonna. With Jack back from the hatch, Claire argues with him that something could be terribly. Are you stopping me again?
SPEAKER_00No, I just took a big sip and I was like, oh. I forgot those alcohol it is. I was like, ooh.
SPEAKER_02Though she tells Jack she's okay, she still seems extremely worried. The next morning, Claire seeks Libby. As a psychologist, she believes Libby can help cause some kind of memory regression, allowing her to remember what happens in the jungle after Eating after Ethan abducted her.
SPEAKER_00It's toxic, you're not drinking enough. I think that's your biggest problem.
SPEAKER_02Seriously. Either that or I didn't put enough in here.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's always a big possibility.
SPEAKER_02As the two women sit meditating, flashes of memory once more overcome Claire's psyche, causing her to scream, shouting as she remembers Ethan. Ordering Libby to do the technique again, she is warned that her memory could be simply combining experiences of other memories in the past blended together, but is adamant that what she saw was real, and that she was drugged and given something. Now fully convinced that Aaron is sick, Claire proclaims that she needs to find the room in her flashback. She asks that Kate help her. Well she got the right one for that job. At the hatch, Henry is still treated as a prisoner, although Locke gives him a book to pass the time. Jack and Locke then argue on what the long-term plan is. But Jack says they don't have a plan for the button yet they keep pushing it. He asks Locke to tell him a better plan, and Locke has no answer, but someone does. How about you let me go? Gail calls from the armory. He's heard everything. In the jungle, Echo cuts down a tree before heading to the hatch to ask if he can borrow a saw. While there, he seems to hear Jack hiding Henry Gale. At the beach, Sawyer is visited by Kate, who asks that he give her a gun. On his refusal, she grudgingly admits that Claire is attempting to find Rousseau so she can find some important medicine for Aaron. Sawyer acknowledges that the mission is strictly no boys allowed and offers Kate a choice of firearm.
SPEAKER_00That was cute. Like I think like he wants to be a hard ass, but sometimes he feels like he's a bigger mission, a bigger purpose. He's like, fine, fuck it, give him the gun. Yes.
SPEAKER_02It's like he just he wants to know what's going on, and then he's like, okay, I approve. What kind of thing is that?
SPEAKER_00That's exactly what he is. I think he just wants to be some kind of part of a situation. He wants to be a part of it. Because I have to know. But and I think it's a good idea.
SPEAKER_02If for them, that's the weapon, it's information.
SPEAKER_00Information. Because even if it wasn't about finding medicine for the child, whatever it was, he was gonna give it a gun anyway. Because A, he wants to know, and B, it's Kate. He's not about to say no to Kate, really.
SPEAKER_02Claire hands Aaron over to Son, who debates that a mother should not leave her child.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I'm sorry. I felt like I know she had maybe good intentions, and making this a bigger picture. I don't feel that anyone should mommy shame someone for them doing what they feel they're doing it for their child. You know what I mean? Not all decisions may not be a decision you make, but when you're making decisions with the best interest of your child, at least of what you feel, don't mommy shame them. And it's not like she's going out to like, hey, I'm gonna go hang out and hang out with Charlie in the woods. Like, no, she feels like she's doing something to save her child. So just to throw that at her that a mother wouldn't leave her child is like like I think I was doing something while I was listening to it. I was like, oh hell no, and I had to rewind it. I'm like, no, like no mommy shaming. That's it's like saying don't go to work. Like, like so anyway, I may have took a too personal. I think the yeah, but okay.
SPEAKER_02I I can I I mean I see both sides.
SPEAKER_00Um I think they they think she's a little crazy, they think she's overreacting. I yeah, get it.
SPEAKER_02And and also we haven't seen yet why son feels that way.
SPEAKER_00Okay, that's true. Um, I feel like I did when she said that wasn't something in Sun's past that's influencing her words. That scene was so unlight, and I thought about it because when she said, Did you have each other? And the way she said no, I picked up on the tone. I really did. Right. Because one and that wasn't something that was sunlight to begin with. Right. So I'm like, there's something that's more, I get it, and I understand it. Bigger picture, don't mommy shake people. It's not cool. So if I see people listening, and some things in life, there's no right or wrong answer. And I'm not talking about like the like the hardcore, you know, I'm talking about like the bigger gray areas in life, there's no right or wrong answer. So someone's doing the best thing.
SPEAKER_02Someone is not is is not necessarily right for someone else, and it's a personal choice.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. You're not putting your child's life in danger if you're not actually being abused. Like, I'm not talking about the I'm not talking about the the black and whites in life. I'm talking about like stay-at-home mom or working mom. I'm talking about similar breast milk. I'm talking about homeschooling, go to school, public school, private school. I'm talking about those things in life. Stop mommy shaming people. End of story. Thank you. This has been my TED Hawk.
SPEAKER_02As Claire prepares to leave, Sun's words, are you sure you want to do this, trigger another flashback memory in her mind of Ethan and the medical room. Returning to an aware state, Claire shakily walks away from Son just as Kate arrives ready to leave. Kissing Aaron goodbye, the two leave to find Rousseau. In the jungle, they find the French woman by following her tracks, and Claire pretends that she fully remembers what happened to her. Inferring no inferring between the short flashes of memory she has seen, she orders Rousseau to take her back to where she scratched her. Danielle agrees, commenting that it is not far from their current location. Back at the beach, Echo reveals to Jack that he knows there is a man in the hatch. He asks to speak to him alone and implies that if Jack doesn't agree, he will share the secret with the rest of the group. Trekking through the jungle, Rousseau stops in the middle of the undergrowth, telling Claire and Kate that they are here, the place where Claire scratched her. She asks Claire where to go next, but Claire shouts back that Danielle should know, stating that she scratched her because she was trying to take Claire back to the others. Rousseau realizes that Claire does not remember what happened, calling her a liar for making her bring the three out this far. As she grabs Claire, Kate pulls out a gun, but Rousseau moves towards it, pleading for Kate to do it. Meanwhile, Claire has run out into the jungle and notices a familiar tree stump, remembering her conversation there with Ethan. Kate and Rousseau catch up to her and Claire begins to frantically run ahead through the undergrowth, searching for something as the rain tumbles down. As she pulls on some leaves, she uncovers a camouflage material and with Kate pulls it away, revealing a set of Dharma hatch doors. The three women stand in amazement and pulling the doors open, find a stairwell leading down. Inside, Kate retrieves some flashlights and the three begin exploring the station. Claire heads to the nursery room from her memories, which she finds is mostly bare. Meanwhile, Kate investigates a locker room where she finds torn clothes and a hat similar to the one worn by the bearded man who took Walt from the raft. She then opens a case which contains, amongst other items, theatrical glue and a fake beard.
SPEAKER_00This is when it clicked for me. That was like, oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. As Claire continues examining the nursery, she finds the sock she recalls crocheting, causing her to remember the teenage girl who saved her from the others. The three now converge on the medical examination room. They open the fridge, which Claire remembers was the place Ethan kept the vaccine he would inject her with. However, finding it empty, Claire relinquishes her hope of finding a cure. Turning to Danielle, she shouts that she must know where it is. She then looks at her scratched arm, which results in the final part of her missing time being recalled, in which she remembers Danielle saving her. With her memories now fully regained, Rousseau explains to Claire that she carried her back across the island to her camp, rightly leaving her where she thought she would be found. She moves to leave, explaining that Claire wasn't the only one who did not find what they were searching for. After returning Claire and Kate to a closer position to their camp, Danielle says it is time for her to go. However, before she leaves, Claire comments that a young girl with blue eyes helped her, just like Danielle did. Although there is no guarantee to Rousseau that the girl was Alex, it gives her some comfort that her daughter may still be alive and well. With the parting sentiment that she hopes Aaron is not infected, but that if he is, Claire must do what is necessary, Rousseau departs. What do you think that means you do what is necessary?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I think just take it at face value. Whatever it is, you you do whatever's necessary. I don't think it means anything. I think it's just take it for for what it is. Whatever that is.
SPEAKER_02Coming from Rousseau, I think it's ch Well, back to.
SPEAKER_00Whatever is necessary. Whatever you feel is necessary, you do. I did have a moment that was looking like an awful thought, but whatever's necessary. Um deal with the others. I'm just saying. Um, when they're lifting the the medical fridge for the vaccines, my first thought was okay, they deserted the station. But you really think they're gonna need the vaccines? Like, like you, it's not like it was the first thing you saw. It was like you've already gone through a deserted station. You've already gone through the goals and the theatrical glue. As opposed to vaccine and medicine. I have to say, that's just like one of the things that seems like enough to take when you desert a station. I don't know. But that's just me. What do I know?
SPEAKER_02Back at the hatch, Echo is granted his private moment with Henry Gale. During this time, a placid Echo confesses to Henry that he killed two others on his first night on the island and admits that he is sorry for his actions, asking for forgiveness. As a result of this disclosure, Echo unsheaths his dagger, using it to cut the smooth the two small bundles of hair he had grown on his chin. He pulled that knife, he's like, Henry's eyes were like, What the fuck? And he's like, Kya!
SPEAKER_00I had so many thoughts on the scene.
SPEAKER_02Meanwhile, Jack examines Aaron, informing Claire that the fever is gone. A much relieved Claire thanks him for his efforts, and then gives Aaron the sock she had made for him. With tears in her eyes, she tells Aaron that she had wanted them to take him, but then now she realized that they were destined to be to be together. Telling him that she loves him, the two share a caring moment together.
SPEAKER_00So, the this let's assume that the others were giving her a vaccine. Let's assume we're gonna assume that for the purpose of this conversation. So, is it possible that little baby Aaron was getting that normal like vaccine sick? You know, you get like a little bit of a after vaccination, a little fever, a little rash, kind of fighting. So, what if it wasn't Rosiella? What was it? It was like him reacting to the quote unquote and utero vaccine he was given. Do do do. Um Echo Echo did not give this apology and this token of retribution of not that's the word I'm looking for, stupid ass. My brain shut down. Of I can't think of the word, my brain shut down, to Henry because he's just some random guy. Like uh, like absolved. Thank you. He didn't do this to like, hey, I don't want you to give this as much as to every chip. No, I think he was doing it to the man he felt was the leader of the others.
SPEAKER_02Let me just finish this um paragraph.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_02No, no, no, it's okay. John enters Gail's cell, offering him some food. Henry reveals that he heard an earlier conversation about authors. The two philosophize about morality and schools of thought before Henry comments about Jack calling the shots. Locke immediately disagrees, saying that he and Jack make mutual decisions. However, as he leaves the cell, John angrily throws cutlery from the counter. As it would appear, Henry's word hit closer to home than Locke would like to concede.
SPEAKER_00So this is the scene where I'm like, Yep. Yeah, he's a girl's smart quickly. He was like, uh, that's the if he is the others, he's already been watching. So without catching on. I'm assuming he's the other. I don't know, I don't know where he is in the others, but we we know that the others watch, they see, they pay attention, they take notes, you know, they're they have whatever. So I'm pretty sure he went in there knowing the situ have an idea of the situation to begin with.
SPEAKER_02And my bad luck. But it's not easy. Yeah, like okay, yes, all of what you said, okay?
SPEAKER_00On top of catching on what he does see.
SPEAKER_02It's not hard to see what's going on between the two men.
SPEAKER_00And I concur.
SPEAKER_02Even even you and I could have caused could have said something to make that divide wider. Wider. Because that's easy. That's that's that was easy to pick up on, you know, and so it's like conquer and divide, you know, or divide and conquer.
SPEAKER_00I think that that was very easy to see, but I don't know if everyone has the tact to deliver it to have reaction from Locke. Not everyone, like people, not everyone can have they may have just been so out there with it, Locke may not have reacted to it. They may you know it may have been more like, I see what you're doing, as opposed to, you know, you know what I'm trying to say? And then I forgot about what was what was he comparing, Hemingway and Toyster or Hemingway and Dostoevsky? I can't remember. I know one of the Russian authors, but I love the way that Locke hit the nail on the head when he was I think he was comparing Jack to Hemingway being jealous and insecure of Dostoevsky. Dostoevsky. Um but I that was him saying you're Hemiway and everybody else within his skill set is Dostoevsky. Like that's how I felt he was trying to like put whether it's him, he was Dostoevsky Evsky or whatever it is. I think Locke was very intuitive in that sense. I love Locke.
SPEAKER_02Hi Terry. As for trivia, the flashback events of this episode occur in the days between the real-time events of Raised by Another and the end of Special. I mean, we already knew that. That's when they occur between Raised by Another and Special. Oh, yeah. The four airplanes in the mobile hanging over the crib bear the oceanic logo. It is possible they are the same planes as seen on the mobile in Claire's dream and raised by another, as the crib in the station and the dream are the same. You make with that what you will. That she saw them before she was there. I can see a phase.
SPEAKER_00My way, my will start spinning, and then they're like, eh, too much overload, error, error.
SPEAKER_02This episode uses a different flashback noise rather than the trademark noise. It's similar to the alarm heard when Claire escaped the staff. That's what they call it, the staff hatch. This is the first episode since her on island appearance, in which Michelle Rodriguez doesn't appear.
SPEAKER_00I know how happy you were with that situation.
SPEAKER_02No comment.
SPEAKER_00She's doing Jack.
SPEAKER_02This is the second episode that takes place completely on the island following the other 48 days. But that one was more general for the tail section, and maternity leave only focuses on one. Okay, so remember when I said something about Alex being a female, and then you were like, Oh, I ruined it?
SPEAKER_00Maybe.
SPEAKER_02Well, I didn't.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02So in um I think it was the season finale from last season. Well, obviously that's the only season finale, too. But Danielle says, you know, oh my child or whatever, and the black smoke, but she says they took her.
SPEAKER_00Um they might have. I didn't ruin it. Don't blame me. To be quite honest with you, there were times I have so much information in my head, I don't know where. I feel like it's just did I hear it before? Was it talked about? Was it said? Am I just am I just guessing? Like this, I don't know. Some like, yeah. But this is the first time you see her. Okay. But is it really her? How do we know it's her? I'm just joking. Um, totally off topic. There's something about blue eyes and dark hair that I find I think it's the most striking look ever. I think many women have had like brunettes with uh black hair with blue eyes, it's just uh the most striking look. Like my mama, I don't notice her blue eyes much, but there's times where like I don't know, maybe she has like her hair is she's salt and pepper now, a little bit more salt and pepper. But when her hair was darker, it popped out more. So that's my husky. My mom is my husky. Um it's something about that look that I was fine striking. The contrast. Anyway, if I always think dark hair is uh more attractive than light hair, personally. That didn't come out right. No, it's fine. Like I I like the Catherine Zeta Jones of the world was more striking to me. I'm like, ooh, then I don't know, I can't think of anyone. Not just that they're ugly, but you know, you I see them first as opposed to a Heidi Klume. I don't know. Sorry, Lisa, that didn't come out right.
SPEAKER_02I'll just cry about it later, it's fine.
SPEAKER_00Well, cry it to your your uh to your your your poor myself more she hates me.
SPEAKER_02The um title is maternity leave, so I think it's pretty much where that comes from.
SPEAKER_00It's so obtruse. Like what it's so vague, I don't know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So you got new glasses.
SPEAKER_00He's looking hot there in his grandma glasses. I love the fact that let's put him on grandma glasses, like it no matter what it is. Like, that one man had glasses.
SPEAKER_02I love Well it they're for seeing but they're for seeing near. So that's probably a grandma thing, you know, like me when I wear my glasses, my old little old lady glasses to sew and shit.
SPEAKER_00The eyes change the same way as women's change throughout the years. I know. But I like the fact that it's like Sawyer. Uh Sawyer. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He is man.
SPEAKER_00We use card man. And then grandma glasses. I fucking love it.
SPEAKER_02Wait till the next episode.
SPEAKER_00Is he gonna have like a babushko in his head too?
SPEAKER_02Like what's gonna but um I'm pretty sure it's the next episode where he he the book that he's reading is pretty funny.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I look forward to it.
SPEAKER_02Um speaking of the next episode, the next episode is called The Whole Truth. And it's a sun episode.
SPEAKER_00Oh, so we are we gonna find out? Don't tell me though. Are we gonna find out what that little whole thing was about? I'm gonna ask you a question, but don't answer it. But here's the question. Well, yeah, I want you to know because you're gonna ask me, what did you want to know the next the next episode? That's what you want to know. Okay, you got it.
SPEAKER_02You got it.
SPEAKER_00You got it, dude.
SPEAKER_02So, as for this episode, we we hear about this him person.
SPEAKER_00Henry I don't know. I really don't know. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_02Maybe.
SPEAKER_00But maybe not.
SPEAKER_02We hear about well, we see that Ethan is supposedly a doctor, and he's taken orders from who you call Zeke. Do you want to know his real name? No. Okay.
SPEAKER_00He's gonna be Zeke and no different. Because if you tell me now, I'm gonna be all confused. Okay. Because it'll be the real name and Zeke, I'll I'll call them two different people. Yeah, no, he's Zeke. We meet Alex. Or real Alex.
SPEAKER_02Right. Um, and we pretty much find out what happened to Claire while she was kidnapped. And and how she got away.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But what's the vaccine? And what do they want with fucking children? And why what's going on with the crazy insane others? Like that that part just left me so many questions. So many more questions. Like, how do they hit you right now?
SPEAKER_02According to Alex, they were just gonna cut the baby out of her and like leave her eaters on polar bears or some shit.
SPEAKER_00And let's be honest, like when he's like, You can go back to the camp, like really, did they really like no one watching it knew thought they'd only go back to the camp. I don't think. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I mean And to get the chance of her finding the Yeah, but think about it this way. When Jack was on his way leading the charge with Sawyer and Locke, and they had weapons, they still couldn't penetrate the others.
SPEAKER_00True.
SPEAKER_02So maybe they feel cocky in their ability to Okay. I also feel like sh they at that time They took Rousseau's baby and they let Rousseau live.
SPEAKER_00We don't know the situation with that. We don't like I all I do know is that Claire at that point has been to the hat to that station. I wouldn't take the chance of her being able to accidentally, even no matter how drugged you are, okay, being able to come back to it. The other people they had the upper hand, maybe most likely going up by Rousseau, weren't at the station. So for fact, I'm like I I don't watching it, you're like, yeah, no, then I can let this bitch go. Then I gotta take the chance. They're very clever.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I didn't think so, but I'm just trying to play devil's advocate.
SPEAKER_00I support that message. DA is fun to play. Yeah. Did you see that there was a thing the Scottish Parliament was in session like remotely, and the guy's cat walked by? Like, oh you see the cat's tail? So here comes Gizmo. Yeah. So yeah. I did Assassin's Tips Podcast, totally the same thing. I know, but I just happened to see the out of the I just saw the the article yesterday. I'm like, oh yeah, that's gizmo. Overall, how did you feel that this episode went? It was okay. No complaints. No complaints at all. On a scale of one to ten? It was like a it left me so confused after with more questions, and that's a little get your tell up my drink. Um sorry. Um like a seven.
SPEAKER_02Alright, that's pretty good. That'll do it for this episode. Stay tuned next time for our next episode when we'll be talking about the whole truth. SPEAKER_02We're gonna put out our virtual Assassin's Tips game night episode soon. I just have to edit it up a little bit because it's yeah. It wasn't that bad. No, it's not that, it's just the the time limit on Zoom. So we had a stop and start. So it it just, yeah.
