SPEAKER_03

Hi, and welcome to this episode of Sass and Simps, where every episode we discuss and dissect another episode of the wonderful, wonderful show Lost. And Agnes is so happy that we're still only in season three.

SPEAKER_02

My yawning, as you said, that had nothing to do with the show. I swear. Granny duty last night. And I don't, he wasn't asleep. For some reason, he didn't want to sleep. He sleeps off the night mostly now. But last night he was like, Yeah, no, let's play now. I was like, uh, it's one o'clock in the morning, homie. He's a perfect timing. I don't miss that. But he's such a good boy. Like he wasn't like fussy or anything, so I was just like, dude, he was playing with his toys in the bed, so it's fine. I caught up with some DVR stuff, but I'm fucking exhausted.

SPEAKER_03

You look at, I'm sorry. Like not in a bad way. You just see you just look tired.

SPEAKER_01

This is what happens when I have my eyelashes on. I don't have the eyelashes on.

SPEAKER_03

That's that's what it is, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It really is because my eyes just look weird. I'm looking at my eyes. I'm like, oh okay.

SPEAKER_03

Hi everybody. Wait. We are your hosts. I'm Lisa.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm Agnes.

SPEAKER_03

And we drink while we do this. And today I am We drink while we do this.

SPEAKER_02

I like how you said that. Can we drink?

SPEAKER_03

While we do this and while we don't.

SPEAKER_02

So listen, it's what I do. I drink and I know things.

SPEAKER_03

Uh-huh. Yeah. I have Estella. What do you have?

SPEAKER_02

I got Estella. Yes, Twinsies. Twinsies. Stella twins. Stella twins. That means we have to drink double the amount. All right. That we would have bottoms up.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. That sounds like real alcoholic-ish. Oh, Stella. I said Stella. She came over here.

SPEAKER_02

Oh. That's what happened when you name your dog after a beer.

SPEAKER_03

I wasn't talking to you, but okay. He said, but you called me, mommy. She does know her name. You know how some dogs are like real dopey? And you'll be like, come here, asshole, and they'll come running. She she doesn't. She just really comes to her name. So she's kind of smart. Yay.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Ready for the episode? Today's episode is the brig. Overall. Give me your like quick right after the episode thoughts.

SPEAKER_02

I am so pissed that I did it at myself that I didn't see the obvious. Really? I'm so shocked at you. Until like the hook goes off. And I'm like, oh shit. Like that's, and then I was like, it clicked then. And I was like, oh my God. I'm mad at myself that I did I never put two and two together before.

SPEAKER_03

I am kind of mad at you too now.

SPEAKER_02

I know. I mean, but to be fair though, you've never even thought, you never gave me any ideas that you were mad at me about not connecting the two.

SPEAKER_03

No, because why would I?

SPEAKER_02

Those two were never the same episode. That's one. So it's not, I mean, not even like separately. It wasn't like a flat, it wasn't like I couldn't even get a lock flashback with some with Sawyer making fun of somebody. Like they were never living in the same episode.

SPEAKER_03

Right. Well, I think that that's one of the brilliant things with the show, is is again, it's it's like another long con.

SPEAKER_02

So when you go to fucking con.

SPEAKER_03

When you go back and you look at the clues, they're there, but not enough that you connect them.

SPEAKER_02

So I don't feel bad. Like I feel bad, I feel stupid because I think I should have gotten that. But same time.

SPEAKER_03

But you shouldn't have, really. Like, don't feel bad because I can't mute you. She's got the remote in her hand.

SPEAKER_02

I got my cell phone. That's a funny thing. I'm trying to. Well, that's the cell phone.

SPEAKER_03

It looked like the remote. Oh.

SPEAKER_02

Well, actually, I find that it's a remote because nice at 10, I can't find my remotes for anything. So it's the Roku remote, it's my DirecTV remote. It's the it's every yeah, it's the remote too. So that's the only thing I had to say. I'm so mad that it's gonna be for the click.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

The episode opens on the night of day 88, and Loc is reading the contents of a red folder by firelight. We hear a muffled voice, but Loc tells him to shut the fuck up. I mean, save your breath, then throws the folder into the fire. We then flash back to eight days ago to the whole man in the magic box thing. Locke looks baffled and asks Ben, what's going on? Ben says, You tell me you brought him here. Ben is the king of old mindfucks. Seriously. Locke ungags him and Cooper bites him. Which explains the bandage on his hand a few episodes ago. Cooper says, Don't you know where we are? But Tom shuts Ben and Loc out of the room before he can say more. Because once again, why should we ever get a fucking answer to a question? As they walk away from the magic box, Ben tells him that they are leaving for a new place. Well, an old place actually. And Ben invites Locke and he accepts. Back at present day, we come into a sleeping Sawyer and Kate, who apparently just wanted to hit it and run. Sawyer offers to walk her home because he needs to pee. He's so sexy.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, the way he said it though, it was kind of like he offered, she said no. He's like, You sure? I just have to pee. Like I think he was kind of covering, he's trying to like cover the fact that he's being chivalrous. So and he probably did have to pee too.

SPEAKER_03

She kisses him goodbye and bounces. He gets his gun and heads out. On the way, he finds Hurley and Jin acting oh so sus outside of a tent. He says, Alrighty then, after they also tell him they're going to pee and walks away. Just as he unzips, he hears someone coming. He pulls his gun on John Locke. Sawyer holds his gun on him now that he's back from his blow up everything that could get us off the island tour.

SPEAKER_01

That was funny.

SPEAKER_03

And Locke explains he's there for him. Locke tells Sawyer that he's undercover and he kidnapped Ben and that he wants Sawyer to kill him. Sawyer claims not to be a killer, but John is like, uh-uh-uh, I read your file, buddy. Larks Locke starts to leave and doesn't stop when Sawyer tells him to. So of course, Sawyer ends up running after him, barefoot, into the jungle. Which is what exactly what Locke wanted based on the smirk we can see. We flash back to three days ago. The others are setting up tents in the valley. Cooper is there tied to a column. Locke helps Cindy the flight attendant, and she tells him that they've been waiting for him in response to the people around staring at him. And just as Locke might get to ask a follow-up, here comes Tom again and interrupts and tells him that Ben wants to see him. Locke goes to see Ben. Sorry. Locke goes to Ben's tent as Ben is listening to the recording that Juliet made. He tells Locke about Juliet's new job as a mole so they can take the pregnant women. Then Ben tells him that a week ago he couldn't move his toes, but now that Locke has arrived, there were pins and needles. He tells Locke he can't wait to show him what the island can do, but that he's not ready yet. He has to free himself from Cooper. That when people join them on the island, they must, of their own free will, make a gesture of commitment, and that's why John has to kill his father. Even though you know they're not murderers or anything.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_03

Well, actually, I guess they're not, right? Because he's not doing it. So it's like uh semantics.

SPEAKER_02

So technically speaking, they're not murderers. You're you are correct. Okay. Fucking piece of shit. I like I'm annoyed by I'm starting to get annoyed by Ben. Like, I like the character because it's interesting to watch. But at the same time, you're like, okay, someone just take him on his misery. He's like the kid that was bullied in school, and then they grow up to be successful, and then they do nothing but make people's lives miserable.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Back at the beach, as Charlie hoards food, Jack asks about the camping trip. Charlie tells him they were exploring and doing some mail bonding. And Jack wants to be included next time.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, look at Dick Jack.

SPEAKER_03

At the tent, Charlie tells Desmond they should let Jack in on the secret mystery wound, but Desmond doesn't trust Jack. He tells him to find someone they can trust. In the jungle, Barefoot Sawyer and Locke are still trekking along, and Sawyer asks about his file. Loc says it contained transcripts and criminal records, but that it didn't explain his parents' murder suicide. He also asks why he took the name Sawyer. Sawyer then knocks John on his ass and holds him at knife point. He demands to know what Locke is up to and why he won't kill Ben himself. He admits he can't. And Sawyer says he won't kill him either, and that instead he'll bring him back to camp. Loc is like, Yeah, you say that now, but wait until you hear what he has to say. At the beach, Hurley approaches Said and asks if he can keep a secret. And then he brings him to the tent. Said is relieved that no one has told Jack yet and introduces himself to Naomi. Naomi says she flew her helicopter from a freighter and that she is part of a search and recovery team. She says that the plane was found off the coast of Bali in an ocean trench four miles deep, and there were no survivors. Her company was hired by Penelope Widmore to find Desmond. She never met Penny and was only given a set of coordinates in the middle of the ocean. Naomi goes on to say that she thought it was a fool's errand until three days ago when the clouds parted and she saw land. Her instruments started spinning and she knew the helicopter was going to crash, so she bailed. Said, of course, thinks she's lying and asks if anyone actually saw the helicopter. And he asks her if she has a communication device. She asks his name again, then hands him the phone and says, Remind me not to rescue you.

SPEAKER_02

That was funny. Once again, it makes me think about the whole magnetic force that's going on around the island and changing compass directions. It's like the Bermuda Triangle, but it's not in Bermuda. I feel like it's like in the what the Pacific Ocean, somewhere off of Fiji, somewhere. So yeah, yeah, that's yeah, that's how they would get from Sydney to Los Angeles, Pacific Ocean. Yeah. Um, so yeah, I think that that that flies. As weird as it sounds, it makes sense based on other things that have been happening. So parallel universe separated by magnetic fields. Boom.

SPEAKER_03

Sounds to me like you are taking your first few steps down the rabbit hole. No, I and I'm waiting down there for you. I've got some chips and dip. I think uh oh, really?

SPEAKER_02

I'm there. No, I just like to come up with the stupid shit just to get you excited. Tease. I've been called worse.

SPEAKER_03

We return again to three days ago, but this time it's night and John is sleeping. Ben wakes him and says, it's time. Ben gives him a knife, and in front of everyone, wants him to kill Cooper. Cooper talks shit about John, and John basically earns every bit of it because he can't do it. Ben then knocks Cooper upside his head with his cane because all those others were actually there for a show.

SPEAKER_02

Um, to be honest, like I here's another way of fucking Ben gaslighting people. Mind fucking. To be on, to be truthful, a show of strength would be to actually be able to let it go without killing the son of a bitch. And I feel like Ben is no matter what John would have done, Ben would have flipped it to make it fit his narrative or what he wanted him to do. So it wasn't that was a really a no-win situation.

SPEAKER_03

Then Ben tells all the sadistic onlookers that Locke is not who they thought they were.

SPEAKER_02

Sadistic onlookers. They really are. They're like the people that used to watch lynching. Like, I feel like it's sick bastards.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And I think they're doing it to be for the greater good.

SPEAKER_03

Actually, I said that wrong. Not who they thought he was, embarrassing him further. In the jungle. I'm not singing, I'm just doing a little dance. Okay. Locke and Sawyer arrive at the Black Rock, and we realize this is actually the first time Sawyer has seen this. I forgot about that. We hear a muffled voice, and Sawyer seems surprised that there's actually a prisoner. He leaves his knife outside and he enters the brig. Locke slams the door and locks him in. And Sawyer is pissed. He takes the bag off the prisoner's head, revealing Cooper, not Ben, and we get a wonderful Sawyer. Who the hell are you? At the beach, we get some deja vu as Said is once again tickering with the radio as Hurley talks to him. Said manages to turn on the phone, but there's nothing but static due to interference.

SPEAKER_02

And then Kate Magnetic stat not magnetic interference. I'm gonna put it in there like every episode.

SPEAKER_03

So they foolishly let her in on the secret. Dumbasses. In the break, Sawyer is still pounding and yelling at Locke when Rousseau arrives for dynamite. Awkward.

SPEAKER_02

That was kind of funny. It was like another situation from last week's episode. They would just stare at each other like uh okay.

SPEAKER_03

Like they both seem surprised to see each other, and then they're just like, all right, well, you do you. Like, you got people yelling in there, and you're here for dynamite, but hey, not my business. Have a nice day. Right. Two days ago, Locke's hand is magically all healed as he sits overlooking the valley camp. Richard sits next to him and formally introduces himself.

SPEAKER_02

He tells Locke's boyfriend.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. If only. He tells Locke that Ben knew he wouldn't kill his father and pulled the stun solely for the camp to watch him fail. When John asks why, Richard tells him it's because Ben was worried that the others were starting to think Locke was special because his paralysis was cured. He says Ben kept them occupied with novelties like fertility issues, wasting their time, and that Locke could remind them of the more important reasons they are there. Richard wants Locke to find his purpose, but for that to happen, his father has to go. He knows Locke won't kill him, so he suggests he gets someone else to do it and hands him Sawyer's file. That was good. Locke looks at it and he's like, Sawyer? Like he doesn't even know him. And Lurch is like, just keep reading. Just keep reading.

SPEAKER_02

I just I don't know why. I'm so mad at myself, but go ahead.

SPEAKER_03

In the brig, Sawyer is still banging on the door for Locke to let him out. Sawyer takes the gag out of Cooper's mouth and threatens Loc with the gun. Locke calls his bluff, and Cooper lets on that the bald-headed bastard is his son. Now Sawyer is really confused. Cooper recalls how he got to the island, although he laughs at the thought that he is anywhere but hell. As they continue to talk, Cooper also mentions that the plane was found at the bottom of the ocean. So now we get somebody completely separate from Naomi also saying the same thing. He goes on to say that he was a con man and Sawyer is finally putting the pieces together, and Cooper does not realize how bad his day is about to get. Flashback to yesterday as the others are packing up their valley camp. When Loc asks, Ben tells him they are moving, but leaving Locke and Cooper behind. Ben tells him he needs to stay behind and clean up his mess and not to bother unless he's carrying his father's body on his back. At the brig, Loc is playing with Sawyer's knife while he waits for the Sawyer vs. Sawyer smackdown. And Sawyer continues to question Cooper, you know, just to be really, really sure.

SPEAKER_02

Sure.

SPEAKER_03

And then gets out his dear Mr. Sawyer letter and finally gives it to the rightful recipient. Cooper starts reading and makes a mockery of the letter and the situation.

SPEAKER_02

Blah blah blah blah blah.

SPEAKER_03

And Sawyer just gets more pissed. Sawyer wants him to finish the letter, but instead Cooper rips it up. And then, well, and then Cooper was done with his life.

SPEAKER_02

And then Cooper was done with I feel like I I mean we all know it was a general idea what the letter was about, but really wanted to know what was the rest of that letter. I feel like it's something I need to know.

SPEAKER_03

I read it in the first um the whole letter. Like in the first season, yeah. The whole letter? Yeah, remember when he gave it to Kate? Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_02

If I don't remember, it wasn't it wasn't that important then. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

I think it just it just goes on to say um that like I'm gonna find you and kill you or something like that. Okay. At the beach, Juliet is eating something that she looks completely grossed out by. And then it took all of 3.5 seconds for Kate to run to Jack to tell him about the radio. So much for keeping quiet. She also blames the lack of trust on Juliet because why not?

SPEAKER_02

But really, we get it. And this is the look, and then at this point, she does that look again where you just want to fucking break her fucking nose. Like, oh I think everyone should just go back and watch this scene and tell me you don't want to just break her fucking nose. Okay, smash it into the fucking sand or some shit. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

I love this. My violent tendencies. Just you just having so much passion.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

That's what he said.

SPEAKER_02

No, he hasn't said that in a long time. There hasn't been a he to say anything for years.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well. Jack asks for more details, and then Juliet wants to let Kate in on something, but Jack says no. Juliette insists, but Jack says not yet. Timeout. Kate really just betrayed the trust of other people, quote unquote friends, as she put it, to tell Jack. about the radio and Naomi.

SPEAKER_02

And then Jack doesn't want to tell her.

SPEAKER_03

And then he doesn't want to let her in on shit. Like, who the fuck do you think you are?

SPEAKER_02

Like, come on. You're losing your leader status at this point. If your people don't trust you, I uh is he gonna be like overthrown in someone like maybe thrown in the in the in the ocean.

SPEAKER_03

But then again, right? Let's play devil's advocate. Clearly can't Kate can't keep a secret so not when it comes to I wouldn't want to trust her with shit too.

SPEAKER_02

When it comes to chat I wonder if anybody else should keep right because she still wants him to want her I want you to want me.

SPEAKER_00

I need you to need me.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. In the jungle Sawyer is now physically sick over what he just did and Locke gives him permission for him to go back to the beach. Sawyer wants to know why Locke did this and Locke tells him that he ruined both their lives and that he had it coming. He also tells Sawyer that Juliet is a mole and tells him about the upcoming prego raid so that he can warm the camp because he's not going back. He says he wasn't undercover but instead he's on his own journey. When Sawyer says they won't believe him about Juliet Locke gives him the voice recorder and they part ways. Sawyer heads back to the beach camp while Locke acts as Ben's little bitch and puts his dad awfully stiff dead body on his back.

SPEAKER_02

He starts walking away and the episode ends anything nope except I was really pissed at myself and I gave that connection sooner it was so obvious but not obvious.

SPEAKER_03

Ugh dumbass okay Cooper claims the island is hell. A popular theory is that the island is not hell but purgatory that's what I've been saying and you're wrong.

SPEAKER_02

I know but still but at least I'm not the only one that was wrong.

SPEAKER_03

No everybody everybody who watched this show was like oh they're in purgatory so it makes you feel better.

SPEAKER_02

Did you think that too when you were watching it?

SPEAKER_03

Uh yeah the thought crossed my mind definitely what other thoughts crossed your mind Zach and Emma the kidnapped Taylor kids are shown with the others so you're trying to say that you thought something and it turned out to be true?

SPEAKER_02

I thought something and it turned out to be false.

SPEAKER_03

Oh but you don't want to tell me well no I'm not gonna I'm not gonna tell you things if I remember I'll tell you but really I don't remember shit.

SPEAKER_02

Translation because it'll give me a clue as to what's really going on.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe pilots do not normally bail out of helicopters. Helicopters are normally able to auto-rotate and are usually controllable even without power I don't know anything about helicopters so I'm gonna assume that this is true.

SPEAKER_02

So was this uh just um was this just a faux pas in writing or was that a lie on her part?

SPEAKER_03

Exactly ah a smart cookie chrome a smart cookie crumb Richard formally introduces himself to Locke but this is not their first meeting did I miss it or did not happen yet didn't happen yet okay I want to say something else I missed this is one of only two episodes not to introduce new characters okay and remember that anagram that we talked about yeah okay so the anagram was Adam Seward Anthony Cooper.

SPEAKER_02

Right what it can be turned into is Sawyer the con man a poor dad I know that it's not I wrote it down to to play with it I just never went back to play with it so I mean this episode I think had a lot of like it had a lot of action and we finally get some closure on Anthony Cooper. Yes Sawyer gets closure we've connected those dots and for the most part at least now we're done with that storyline I think and I say I think because I don't want to say for sure you know because I don't want to throw you off whatever but uh yeah does Jack ever find out that Claire's his sister overall how did you like this episode it was okay it was a good episode it was okay okay all right next week's episode is called the man behind the curtain is it about Ben is that who you think is that who you think it's about because that is how you refer to him so isn't that funny that is kind of funny though just anyone know I had no idea that they had any episodes that title he just I'm sure you didn't like he always just pulling the fucking strings around people you referred to him as that in one of us so what was that like two episodes ago maybe I guess yeah so that's funny okay I don't know that not not who the episode's about I guess I'll just have to find out you have to find out um those of you who heard our challenge last time and accepted it we thank you and this week I'm going to ask you that you follow us make sure you're following us on Instagram because in a couple of episodes we are going to be announcing our season three giveaway and we're also gonna be asking we we have a couple of things in mind to give away uh we are either going to give away uh Assassin Sips hoodie and they are let me tell you they are like the softest thing it's yeah we all like to be enveloped in something soft it's like we're they're hugging you like do you like warm hugs can you tell I have kids yeah right I was like I give good hugs I've been told I give good hugs like from family members and you give good hugs I'm convinced because my boobies well there's no boobies in these sweaters but they're still cozy or an Amazon gift card so just make sure that you're following us on social media and this week the challenge is to make sure you're following us on Instagram specifically next week's episode is the man behind the curtain so please stick around and come back and listen to that episode
