Hi, welcome to this episode of Sass and Sips. Every week we discuss and dissect well ideally every week. There's been a few. Well, anyway, every episode, alright, let's say that. Every episode we dec just give it a it's been a minute. Every episode we discuss and dissect an episode of Lost in Order. While we drink. And and yeah.
SPEAKER_04It cracks me up every time you say in order. Like, what's this gonna be like?
SPEAKER_01No, no, because you still want to do one out of order. And I think at this point, like our train wreck of a podcast and lives, we should just throw the fucking towel. No, you cannot just do no, you can't do the last episode.
SPEAKER_04This is the last season, and just skip everything in between, and you do like all the synopsis.
SPEAKER_01I know, listen, I know that it's been a minute since you guys have heard from us, and actually the last episode that was published right before this one, we had actually recorded it like I think in September.
SPEAKER_04October 15th.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. But due to circumstances, um I could not edit it or release it until very recently. So um this is this is the first time that um her and I are coming together to record since then. And since then, you you practically became mama again. You wanna you wanna talk about what's been going on?
SPEAKER_04I'm a granny. Woohoo! That was it, that's the end of my and apparently I'm not a family I am now the family matriarch, and I want to commit homicide and suicide and all those other sides. I'm gonna have to edit that out. Um trigger alert. Um I've been drinking a lot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then we made a major move, and I got three kids doing distance learning. Um, and my house is like falling down around me every week. It's a new issue. From leaks and pools in the basement to snowing in my bedroom.
SPEAKER_04I don't like every time I talk to you, it's something else, and I feel like I've jinxed you. I think you might have.
SPEAKER_01So it's just it's just really been um trying and thankfully we are healthy. I mean, you know, it's it's just thankfully it's just not anything like COVID related really. Um and we still are very thankful for that. It's just it's just been adulthood and responsibilities and yeah, I mean, shit.
SPEAKER_04Okay, above the Granny Hood Granny Hood rocks adulthood is the ghettoest hood ever. Okay, so I gotta tell you. I was I'm like, I am too old to be an adult. Like, this is not cool. I don't wanna be a grown-up. So what are you drinking?
SPEAKER_01I may sangria for myself. I actually I may say because uh very good family friends of ours also bought a house and moved. And so I'm in here saying Gria uh for like a housewarming gift, and then I kept some for myself.
SPEAKER_04Uh because of the holiday season and my coffee, I have a little bit of chocolate simple syrup. I made that when I made I made some cake orders, and I have a lot of coquito. So coquito coffee. Chocolate coquito coffee. Interesting because it is the holidays.
SPEAKER_02That's what Alex made for himself.
SPEAKER_04It is a holiday so epiphany. Listen coquito coffee?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because I make it for him, but I don't drink it, so he uh he he puts in coffee too.
SPEAKER_04I like that. I like coquito. I like coquito coffee, I like coquito ice cream. Like I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I like the fact that somebody's drinking it. And then it's not just sitting in my fridge to go bad.
SPEAKER_04I'm on my way. Does it ever go bad? I had some for like over a year. It doesn't ever go bad.
SPEAKER_03Well, not if you put enough alcohol in it. Sure. I'm not drinking it, it's not my problem. I like I like coquito, but I don't like eggnog. I don't like eggnog either.
SPEAKER_04And I don't like different flavor coquitos. I like coquito, but I like I'll add it to different things.
SPEAKER_01I really wish I liked it.
SPEAKER_04I really wish I did, but I kind of felt good because I had some neighbors here a few years ago. Um I know I'm in Buckfuck, Wisconsin, but they were um like maybe like the fifth Puerto Rican I met in the whole state practically. Now you know them all. I think I know, right? I know them all. And they're from Puerto Rico and they love my coquito. I think for one year I was just being nice, and I gave out little jars of coquito to people I liked. And the following year, they bought my coquito. Oh, nice. I was like, wait, wait.
SPEAKER_01You're like a drug dealer, the first one's free.
SPEAKER_04But like, wait, the Puerto Ricans are buying my coquito? Like, oh my god. I was like, I feel so special. But yeah. Yeah, that's good. Good for you. The holiday but that was a couple years ago. Now I just sell my tears of sorrow.
SPEAKER_01Listen, if somebody's buying them.
SPEAKER_04Listen, I wish somebody would, because I'd make a million dollars of the first day.
SPEAKER_01That's it.
SPEAKER_04That's I mean, but then you'd have a million dollars, so that'd be and then I have to find some other but I have tons of sorrow, so I have plenty of tears to give out. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_01So this episode Yes. This episode, the cost of living, Mr. Echo.
SPEAKER_04I'll live right now, but okay. Pretty much. Overall, how'd you like it? Okay, so I like the episode. I think having this hiatus and not doing and and not doing it every week or two or three a week. I got a different perspective on the show. Like it was aggravating the hell out of me to I'm like like I felt like then it was just unanswered questions after I was like it was aggravating. And now I'm like, okay, I'm just gonna enjoy this episode because it's a pretty good episode. Episode is like I'm I'm gonna forget that it's a TV show. I'm gonna act like it's a one-hour movie and be happy with it. For the record, still not my favorite show in as a whole. I'm like, it's just not I mean, fair is fair. The hiatus didn't change that, but I'm still gonna appreciate the episodes for themselves and not the fact that they give me a headache and Agena because they don't answer anything.
SPEAKER_01Hopefully, we'll be back to give letting the show give you headaches more frequently, right? So we really gotta get our shit together. This adult responsibility is for the fucking birds.
SPEAKER_04I'm not playing with it not being every week, but that's okay.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah. Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I'm right when you are, boss.
SPEAKER_01Okay. In flashback, as a boy, Echo is caught by a nun while breaking into a supply shed to steal food for himself and Yemi. When forced to confess at church, Echo refuses, insisting that stealing food for his starving brother was justified and therefore not a sin. So actually, before we go on, these flashbacks are uh what's the word? They're they're like linear, but they're not um but but they're not all like the same year. They're like different parts of his life. Does that make sense how I explained it? Yep. Okay, so then in the next one, it says after the events depicted in the 23rd Psalm, when Echo was left dumped on the runway as the beach craft flew away with Yemi's dead body, in a case of mistaken identity, the Nigerian soldiers drive Echo back to Yemi's church. He finds Yemi's Bible with a photograph of he and Yemi as children inside. Echo meets the altar board the altar boy Daniel and his mother Amina, who asks about Yemi. Echo answers that Yemi has been called away and that Echo will be taking his place. When Amina inquires about Yemi's upcoming trip to London, a surprised Echo states that he would take Yemi's place there too. That flashback gave us the information of how, like when we saw Yemi um, I'm sorry, Echo in Australia and investigating um the psychic.
SPEAKER_04Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01That that explains how he got you know from like where we had seen him last, like, you know, standing by the plane.
SPEAKER_04So that part of the idea of like, okay, this is how this has happened.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Right. Like these these flashbacks all pretty much help to fill in the gaps. Sometime later, after Echo has become established in his new role as priest, he is controlled. I'm sorry, he is confronted by a militiam who demands to speak with Yemi. Amina intervenes and attempts to placate the leader by informing him that the vaccine shipment was late. Echo was unaware of the arrangement, and Amina explains to him that 80% of the clinic's vaccines are given to Amika for protection. When Echo tells Amika that he is not afraid of him, he shoots a blind woman as a warning that the deal must be completed, then drives away. Echo soon develops a plan to sell the vaccine on the black market before he leaves the country that coming weekend. In Yami's church, Amika and two of his men arrive to punish Echo as they have learned of his black market inquiries. As Amika is about to chop off Echo's hands with the machete, Echo turns on the militiamen, grabs the machete, and kills the two henchmen. Amika begs for mercy, but Echo says, You don't know who I am, and kills him. He walks out of the church covered in gore, holding a bloody machete and a gun, where he is seen by the terrified villagers, including Amina and Daniel. As Echo prepares to leave for London, he is met by Daniel, who asks him whether his mother's opinion that Echo is a bad man is true. Echo replies, only God knows. Echo then notices the church being boarded up, and Amina, who had been taking delivery of a vaccine shipment, explains to him that the village can no longer use the church building as it has been desecrated. She also explains that she is not grateful for what Echo did because the men will only be replaced by others. Further, she reveals that she had been aware that he was planning to sell the vaccine himself anyway. She advises him to repent and make his peace with God and tells him that he owes Yummy one church. This these flashbacks to me fill in the gaps of Echo coming basically to the island, you know, and then after after his brother was shot and then also why it was so important for him to build the church. But do you think that when he was selling the when he approached the other man about selling the vaccine, do you think that it was so that he could either make a new arrangement or get the money himself or to set up the other people as an ambush? Cause I'm not really sure.
SPEAKER_04I mean, listen, it all that all happened right after, I mean, it wasn't like years after the incident with the plane at the at the so he was still a drug lord. Like he was still uh like it just happened like yesterday. He was washing his the same day with the when like the guys came up to him at the hot at the church the same day. He was like washing his hands from blood. So it wasn't like he's had like months and years to like become a different person. So I'm pretty sure it was still like when she found out that when he found out that he that Yimmy was going to London and his his eyes perked up. He's like, Oh yeah, I'm taking that I'm like this is my ticket out. So I'm 98% sure he was still like so that vaccine was for him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't know, see, that's the thing, like I'm I was just curious about that. On Hydra Island. In the Hydra, Ben gives Jack a white smock shirt and invites him to come for a walk. Jack asks about the symptoms of Ben's tumor, particularly pointing out that the tumor will kill him. Ben professes not to know what Jack is talking about. Jack smirks and drops the issue. They join the rest of the others at the beach, all dressed in white smock shirts for Colleen's funeral. The corpse is floated out to sea on a burning raft accompanied by a lacymose country rock song played on the speakers while Pickett grieves. Privately, Ben asks Juliet why she showed his x-rays to Jack, and she replies that she never told Jack whose x-rays they were, and remarks that Ben must have inadvertently confirmed Jack's guess. When I watched this scene, I thought about you. Because in I don't remember what the episode was, but I remember us talking about like a funeral or something, and you had said, Oh, like how they should do it, and basically you described this scene.
SPEAKER_03Really? You don't remember that either, do you? No, so but now I wanna know what w I wanna you have to find that recording. Oh good god, you listen to them. I already have.
SPEAKER_04So it's exactly why you should be able to find them easier.
SPEAKER_01I guess we could just start with the ones where somebody died, right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's not gonna help.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't I don't remember what it was, and I even checked like the notes that I had written and I couldn't find it. But I remember you describing a scene and me in my head thinking, oh my god, that's so funny, because she doesn't even realize that she's describing a scene that's gonna come.
SPEAKER_04Are you sure that it actually happened or you just jumped it? I don't know.
SPEAKER_01No, it actually happened. Because this is also not the first time that you have made comments, just like you know, offhand comments, and not realize that you were right on the mark about something that's gonna happen.
SPEAKER_04You really need to make notation. I know and so you can bring it to my.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01Back in uh okay. Juliet brings Jack a dome style silver platter with a burger in it. Juliet is usually is unusually friendly. Ben interrupts, wanting to speak to Jack. Juliet is reluctant to leave until Ben requests patient doctor confidentiality. Ben reveals the plan he had to break Jack, wearing him down until he believed the others weren't his enemies. Ben elaborates on how he meant Jack to become invested in the others by exploiting the physical resemblance between Juliet and Jack's ex-wife Sarah. However, Ben admits that his plan was shot to sunshine once Jack saw the X-rays revealing that Ben had a tumor and was dying. As Ben leaves, he asks Jack if he believes in God. And Jack answers by returning the question. Ben says, Two days after I found out I had a fatal tumor on my spine, a spinal surgeon fell out of the sky. And if that's not proof of God, I don't know what is. Thoughts?
SPEAKER_04Okay, so what he said Jack was like, oh you want me to s you want me to s to perform surgery on you, because I want you to want to sp wait, how do you want somebody to want to save your fucking life considering everything that has transpired up to this point? I was like, does really do you believe the shit that comes out your mouth? Or I j I I I uh Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_01But therein lies the whole thing about Ben. I mean, what like what are we to make of this guy?
SPEAKER_04I think he's delusional. Like some may say he's a lying sack of okra shit, because if you've ever eaten okra. That's up it's a southern thing. If you've ever eaten okra, you would know that's some nasty shit. Anyway, um, so he's a lying sack of okra shit, or he's just really kind of delusional in his thought process. Like do you think that what's not how it works? I think it's both though.
SPEAKER_01But do you think that what he's telling him is true?
SPEAKER_04I think he thinks it's true. I think I think there's a there's I think with him, a good lie has a hint of truth in it.
SPEAKER_00Well meaning.
SPEAKER_04I think is a little bit of delusion, lie, and truth.
SPEAKER_01Uh but okay, so for me it's like if if this is true that Ben has really only captured Jack in order for him to perform surgery on him, that would explain why Jack is being kept close. Jack is not doing physical labor like Sawyer and Kate, who we didn't even see this episode. And um and why Ben himself was going across the island, you know, and and got himself caught, quote unquote.
SPEAKER_04I think if it was just I think this is what the delusion and his megalomanic delusions of grandeur enter into enter, because if it's just as simple as, oh my god, this man can possibly save my life, I think it would have I think things would have been done a lot different. Because let me tell you, it would have been a lot easier for him to say, Hey, you're a doctor, I need your fucking help. As opposed to, so I think it's a little bit of something else. Like, yes, I need a neurosurgeon, but something else, I have other things, something else I need him for. Right. I have other plans. Considering what we know about their fact finding capabilities, they know translation, the information given to them. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, we don't know where they're getting their information. We know, however, that they have access to information because Juliet has a whole dossier on Jack's ex-wife and Jack, you know. So clearly they have ways of getting information. So knowing that he's a doctor and knowing that he's basically the kind of guy who always needs to help, you're right. Why couldn't he just approach them and say you know, listen, I need help. Although if that was the case, then they would have had to expose themselves. Um, in the sense of like if the way they did it this way, it's the others, quote unquote, are still somewhat of an enigma. Something to be feared or something to be something to stay away from. If I think if Ben had just come and said, hey, look, I I live over there, could you operate on my back? You know, it would have it would have been a lot different for the two groups. So I don't know. Alright. So later, Juliette brings Jack a VHS video. And for those of you who don't know, it's I hate you for saying that. No, I'm just kidding. At least I didn't say like Betamax and shit.
SPEAKER_04I hate you for saying that too, but okay.
SPEAKER_01Um she says, you'll like this one, To Kill a Mockingbird. It's a classic. Against Jack's expressed wishes, Juliet lows the videotape and moves the television close to the glass wall with the sound off. While Juliet entreats Jack to perform the surgery that will save Ben's life, the silent movie shows her holding a series of written messages asking Jack to kill Ben on the operating table. Side note, I swear this has got to be where that trend started.
SPEAKER_04With the whole the the the cue cards?
SPEAKER_01Yes. Uh because this is what, like 2006. So that has to be where it started. So you can thank Lost for that. I don't know, I'm just guessing, but sure. Um so while she's telling him to save his life, the silent movie shows her holding a series of written messages asking him to kill Ben on the operating table. The monitor is placed so that it is out of view of the video surveillance. While her speech praises Ben and describes how much he deserves to live, the flashcards on the tape say that Ben is a dangerous liar and that some of the others want change. They want Ben dead. But they need to make it look as though they tried to save his life so that it looks like an accident. So they want Jack to make a fatal mistake during surgery. While Juliet says that only Jack can save Ben and that she can be trusted, her written messages on the video say it's up to Jack to kill Ben and that she will protect him. The last cue card asks Jack to demand that she stop the movie. He plays along. Juliet takes a tape and leaves, pausing to request that Jack should think about what she said, and he nods. Thoughts on Juliet?
SPEAKER_04I think they're all full of shit. I don't know why you would trust anybody from that group. Just it seems like it is Yeah, I think it's full of shit. But that's just my opinion. I think I I think they're all crazy.
SPEAKER_01What what does she have to gain by s by lying to him?
SPEAKER_04What does anyone have to gain by lying?
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean he brought him supposedly Ben brought Jack there to operate and save his life. So what does Juliet have to Okay wait a minute?
SPEAKER_04You have to assume that that's the only reason he brought them here. What else could it be? Who knows? The guy's fucking psycho. Um like I who knows? Um but there's so there's that. Like we said, if he it was just purely, I need your help, I'm sure that he went by a different way. The the w the lengths he went through, I feel like there's something else other than just surgery. And if that's the case, it could be anything. Anyway. Um, so I so you have to assume she has ulterior motives, other she's uh her ulterior motives have ulterior motives.
SPEAKER_01Alright. I guess we'll sh we shall see soon. Do do do Maybe, maybe not, I don't know. Okay, so back on the island, a delirious Echo has a vision of his brother Yummy holding a cigarette lighter. Echo is told that if he is ready to confess, he knows where to find Yemi. That night, Echo's shelter catches fire. Charlie and Hurley rescue Charlie and Hurley rescue Echo and leave him propped up against the tree while Echo mumbles something about my brother. Locke arrives and asks Charlie where Echo is, but he has disappeared. So Yummy appears to Echo with the lighter and then his shelter catches fire. You think that's a coincidence or just one more unexplained island bullshit mystery?
SPEAKER_04No, Yummy's ghost did it. Fair enough. I think Yummy's ghost did it.
SPEAKER_01Definitely could be. The next morning, Locke and Desmond asked Saeed to come to the Pearl to use the computer to communicate with the others and figure out how to rescue Jack Sawyer and Kate. Charlie and Hurley inform the group that they cannot find any trace of Echo. Loc asks if Echo said anything to Charlie before he disappeared, and Charlie mentions Echo's rambling about his brother. Locke realizes that Echo is heading to the beach craft where he previously had visions of his brother. Locke tells Saein and Desmond that they are heading for the same place as Echo and offers an open invitation to anyone else who wants to come along. Hurley remarks that Jack used to decide who ventured into the jungle. Locke says he is not Jack.
SPEAKER_04I found that funny because we've always said like Jack tells us when to paste and shit.
SPEAKER_01Like Well, and it's just like once again the the need for like the show to show how different Jack and Locke are. Nikki accepts the invitation eagerly and encourages Paulo to join in, remarking that he's always complaining about not being included. So here we go with Nikki and Paolo.
SPEAKER_04So they um I'm assuming there are now new characters, more people for me to talk shit about. Um, yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04So far I think I like that I think I might like what they might bring to the show. We shall see though. I need more I need I need more intrigue because um Kate was giving the intrigue before, a little bit of story give me the intrigue. Now that we solve their lives. I need more intrigue.
SPEAKER_01You need more intrigue?
SPEAKER_04I need more drama.
SPEAKER_01Desmond asks Locke what they are really doing and notes the coincidence that the plane Echo is heading for is in the same place as the Pearl Station. In reply, Locke quotes Echo and says, Do not mistake coincidence for fate. Echo staggers through the jungle and collapses. The black smoke monster is seen and heard in the background. Angerian man, Emika, appears and throws a machete at Echo. The machete lands in a tree next to Echo's head. Echo pulls the machete from the tree and turns to face the three men, one with his throat cut, one with a severed arm, and one Amika who is cowering before Echo and begging for his life. Echo is about to strike him with the machete, but Amika changes into the altar boy, who puts his finger to his lips, shh just like Walt Tushann, and says confess. Echo drops the machete and runs. He arrives at a river and drinks from it. Echo smears mud on the bandage over his chest wounds. He notices the reflection of the monster towering over him. He turns to face the monster, but it retreats into the jungle as Lok Said, Desmond Paolo, and Nicky appear on the opposite riverbank. On the way to the pearl slash beechcraft, Lok asks if Echo is looking for Yummy. Echo angrily pins Lok to a tree with a knife at his throat, telling him not to speak his brother's name again. Lok asks Echo what he is so afraid of. At the beechcraft, Loc helps Echo to remove the boulders that cover the plane's door while the others enter the pearl. He asks Echo exactly what he saw in the jungle, confiding that he once saw something as a very bright light, which was beautiful, but Echo replies, That is not what I saw. Echo discovers that Yemi's body is not inside the beach craft. He decides to wait by the plane, contemplating the black and white photograph of himself and Yemi as boys. Before heading down to the pearl, Locke gives Echo the cross that he found while tracking Echo during further instructions. Inside the pearl, Nikki watches the pearl orientation video. Said, Desmond, and Locke examine the electronics behind the computer while Paulo discovers and uses a working toilet. Could you imagine like stuck on an island for a month? Like shitting in the bushes, and then you find a toilet? That must be like that must be like one of the most unspoken happy moments.
SPEAKER_04You know, like especially since the other one blew up. Like the off I call it the office. So they had a bathroom in there, but still, I feel like I and I know it was like the it was like the job, it was like the office, but I feel like it was kind of just kept away from everybody. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, that's true. I guess I didn't think about the hatch. I guess maybe because not everybody used it.
SPEAKER_04And I think that's kind of unfair, kind of. It was still like I think everyone should at least have an opportunity to have a job in the hatch or do something so they can, I don't know, at least take a chip piece. Right. Shower. In a shower in a shave. There's just certain things. And I think and I would like to see since they find these other hatches if they can build like little villages around the hatch. But anyway, continue.
SPEAKER_01After watching the film, Nikki suggests some of the monitors could be viewing for other Dharma stations. Said fiddles with the electronics until a live picture appears on one of the monitors. A man with an eye patch is briefly shown before putting his hand over the camera and the live video is lost. Locke remarks, I guess he'll be expecting us. Tell me what you thought when you saw that.
SPEAKER_04Nothing.
SPEAKER_01So a man with an eye patch appears and you didn't think anything of it.
SPEAKER_04I figured might be the others. I like and their little hatch and their little station.
SPEAKER_01Well the the thing is, like see what stood out to me is I mean it's a TV monitor, right? But it it was almost as if he could see them. And he he like he knew that they were watching him.
SPEAKER_04I didn't see it that way. I didn't it didn't click. Interesting. Very interesting.
SPEAKER_01And also, remember they did find a glass eye. Could that be why he has an eye patch? Like maybe that belongs to him. I mean it doesn't tell you where he is. Whether he's on the island, the other island, somewhere completely different. You just I don't know, you I I remember watching it and and feeling like he somehow knew that they were looking at him. And that's what made him look into the camera and cover it and move it. Or, you know, shut it.
SPEAKER_04Quite possible. Because if there's cameras in there and the other places when you can see, I'm sure there's cameras in the particular hatch that they're in.
SPEAKER_01Right. Well, we know that the last time they were in that station they could see Jack in the hatch.
SPEAKER_04Mm-hmm. So that we're assuming that they all have cameras.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_04Every hatch has a camera and every hatch can see all the cameras. Did I say did I cut them out right?
SPEAKER_01Well, I don't know if every hatch could see all the cameras, but Enough of them.
SPEAKER_04I'm sure there's more than just one.
SPEAKER_01Right. And then that would that would pose the observation that the guy with the eye patch could see the cameras that they are looking at. And we also saw um at the Hydra that there's cameras because Ben was looking at them. Do you remember that?
SPEAKER_04Vaguely. It's been months.
SPEAKER_01Um but yeah. Yeah. Rem well remember um when Jack tries to escape and he he's like he tells him to open the door or whatever. But and he sees he sees the cameras and you can see um J uh Sawyer and Kate in the camera.
SPEAKER_04Oh right, right, right, right, right.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Um, yeah, so that we just we know that there's cameras there. There's cameras set up, but also that that's another station where they can watch things going on. Okay. Sitting by the beach craft, pondering the cross, Echo sees Yemi standing at the edge of the pearl exterior clearing. Yummy backs into the jungle. Following, Echo demands to know why Yemi wants to hear his confession and why now. Echo finds Yummy waiting expectantly in the middle of a garden of brightly colored anthurium bushes. Yemi asks Echo if he is ready to confess. Echo says he is ready, and Yemi looks at the cross that Echo holds. Echo says, I ask for no forgiveness, Father, for I have not sinned. I have only done what I needed to do to survive. Yemi let's go on the cross. Echo says that when he was a small boy he killed a man to save his brother's life, and that he is not sorry for this. He is proud of it. Then Echo kneels before Yemi and extends his arms, palms upward in supplication. He appeals and says, I did not ask for the life I was given, but it was given nonetheless, and with it I did my best. An angry looking Yemi replies, You speak to me as if I were your brother. As the apparition walks away, Echo asks, Who are you? Echo follows, repeating, Who are you? The black smoke darts in between the trees, soon Echo is confronted by a huge mass of black smoke. Backing away, Echo shows awareness but little fear of his imminent doom by reciting the twenty third psalm. An arm of smoke reaches out and grabs Echo and smashes him against the tree. In the pearl, Locke and the others hear the groan and the wail of the monster and rush to investigate. The monster slams Echo against tree trunk after tree trunk before finally lifting him high into the air and throwing him violently to the ground. Locke finds Echo dying. Echo breathes his dying words in Locke's ear. As he dies, Echo sees a flash of he and his brother walking arm in arm into the sunset and throwing a soccer ball. Saeed asks Loc what Echo says, and Locke replies, He said, We are next.
SPEAKER_00And with that, the episode ends. Dun dun dun dun dun dun.
SPEAKER_04So this reminds me of something I said like a hundred episodes previously about smoke. I don't remember if I remember like you know, I remember an idea that I had, but I can't remember what I said. I don't know, my brain is shocked. I rem um it's like the blacks, it's like they're all dead and they're in purgatory. And the black smoke is like I don't want to say it's it it's moving them on to the next phase.
unknownDeath. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_00We did lose another Taylor survivor now. They didn't last long, did they?
SPEAKER_04It's like they came in for a season.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, who's who's left? I think um I think just like Nikki and Paolo now.
SPEAKER_04Were they the Tailys or were they part of the original survivors and just not part of the No, I think I think they're part of the original survivors. They just weren't part of because remember Maybe. Alright, whatever. She's Nikki a chance to be part like she was talking to Nikki was talking to whatever. She was talking to him, and he goes, Now you could be part of the group and not just stand back and watch. So I feel like they were part of the original group. They just weren't featured.
SPEAKER_00Oh, see?
SPEAKER_01We get um kind of a new character. Look at the the eye patch guy. We don't really know anything about him though.
SPEAKER_04I'm trying to go through my okay.
unknownOh god.
SPEAKER_04Alright. Overall, what did you think of the episode? I told you at the end earlier this episode that I learned to watch it individually and not of a series, and I don't care. And it's like okay, not bad, it's okay. Still not my favorite show. But it's okay. But when the series ends, I'm not gonna be sad. I'm like, okay. Because I'm tired of guessing. Alright.
SPEAKER_01Do you want to do trivia?
SPEAKER_04Oh, go ahead. What were you gonna say? I was gonna say we're gonna have to have like a really a complete drunken debauchery episode of celebration of the series of the series.
SPEAKER_01This sounds good to me. It's piling over! Right? Alright, trivia. Tanya Raymond, who plays Alex, starred in an episode of CSI New York, also titled The Cost of Living. Not that she was in this episode, but you know, I guess trivia was.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she's in the show.
SPEAKER_01Okay. This is the first episode since Do No Harm, which is 34 episodes ago, to feature the death of a male main character. Every main character killed since Boone has been female.
SPEAKER_04But that's good though. I mean I prefer my cameras to be ultra sensitive. Like I don't care, like like my thing, if it rains, if a fly flies by the cameras, it sets off the motion detectors. And I prefer it that way. As opposed to being sensitive enough and missing something. There was a leaf at your door.
SPEAKER_00Maybe.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so that's pretty much it for this episode. Um I feel like we're still a little like out of practice. It's gonna take maybe maybe like another episode to get back into the routine for us.
SPEAKER_04I yeah, I don't know when the next was gonna happen, but Um Well, we have I mean, basically like
SPEAKER_01We found another s not that we found another station, but we found another aspect of the other station. We lost another character. We got a glimpse of a new character. And Nikki and Paolo are all of a sudden on screen. So But where did they come from?
SPEAKER_04They weren't the Taylor's, they were the original group of survivors. I'm 90% sure. I'm 100% sure.
SPEAKER_01So yes. The title, The Cost of Living.
SPEAKER_04I think it goes obvious towards um Echo and his brother Yemi. Like the even though he was the what it took, what it took from him, what it took out of him, what it took for him to become a better person. Like, you know, it took like for him to become a better person. And I don't think and I think the reason he was the way he was was circumstances to begin with. Like he wasn't but he had to lose his brother and be turned on a fucking island. But um so it goes in so many different aspects and facets to the cross of the way, but I think it's directly towards Echo.
SPEAKER_01The next episode is I Do. And it's a Kate episode, I believe.
SPEAKER_04Duh. I was actually, I thought we found out that all there was to be about Kate, but then it clicked. I was like, there is something that we don't know. And I think this is gonna I'm like, okay, will this explain what it is? But looking back, I mean like, oh, we had all the answers. I said, no, we don't. We don't have all the answers. I think this might touch a face, this might just hit this one, but yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's it's not one of my more favorite episodes, if that makes sense. Like, it's it's okay. Like for me, there's some things that I'm like, ooh, and then there's some of it that I'm like, oh, this is so stupid. But so we're gonna get a little bit more about Kate, and you know, we'll see. Maybe I mean just because I feel one way, you can feel completely different, as per this whole damn show has proven.
SPEAKER_04And it's so funny because I find that your favorite episodes, I'm like, meh.
SPEAKER_01It's true, it's true.
SPEAKER_04But like, meh.
SPEAKER_01Oh, well, let me see. If if you think you're gonna like that one, you just wait a few more. Oh, I got a doozy for you. Actually, the one after I do, I I like. It's a good episode. What?
SPEAKER_04It's I divorce.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_04I'm pregnant. Okay, why uh okay. Yeah, I am so sleep deprived.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. You and me both.
SPEAKER_01Um but so yeah, that'll that'll do it. Next time we'll talk about Kate and we'll see what else there is to learn about Miss Kate. And I don't know, you got anything else until then?
SPEAKER_04I don't think so. But you know what, I won't I'll probably remember later and then backpedal on our next episode, and it'll be completely irrelevant because no one's gonna remember it. But yeah. Right.
SPEAKER_01Well, then, until then, please stay tuned for our next episode, and we will be back. I can't say when, but we will be back. Uh we got this suspension. I know this this make you guys miss us a little bit. We keep saying it, but this adult thing is like it's killing us.
