SPEAKER_01

Hi, and welcome to today's episode of Sassin Sips. That was ominous.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, this is how it's gonna go today. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Today we're gonna talk about Lost Season 5, Episode 16, The Incident Part 1. I'm Lisa, and today I am sipping on a peeroni. Oh, you're all robotic.

SPEAKER_00

What about now? Okay, no, now you're fine. Okay. And I'm Agnes. I forgot what I was doing. And I'm sipping on sassy sips. That's why I'll name the drink for today's episode.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Any hot takes from this episode?

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. I was so wrong about Jacob.

SPEAKER_01

What were you wrong about? Wait, what refreshed my memory?

SPEAKER_00

I don't think I didn't think Jacob existed.

SPEAKER_01

Right, right, right. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

So, you know, I was kind of proved wrong that first 30 seconds of the episode. I'm like, oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

So that happened. Just a little bit.

SPEAKER_00

Just a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

All right. So we're gonna, I'm gonna follow along to Lost Pedia, and we're gonna go through the flashbacks first. Um and then we'll go to On Island. So the first the episode the episode opens on Jacob. And obviously, it it's supposed to be like a long time ago. You know, you see him with the loom, and then you see the ship and you're like the statue.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So see a blonde man dressed in white shirt, black pants, in a stone-columned room, spinning a thread for a tapestry he's weaving, and using a long-bladed knife as a beater. Outside on the beach, he snares a fish, cooks it on the rocks. As he eats, he watches a ship on the horizon, and this is what we will know as the black rock. Another man approaches him. This man is dressed in black, black share gray pants. He asks how the ship found the island and accuses the blonde man of having brought it there. He declares that one day he will find a loophole which will allow him to kill him. And the blonde man appears unperturbed, promising in return, When you do, I'll be right here.

SPEAKER_00

In the sense that you're like, go ahead, talk your shit.

SPEAKER_01

So the man in the black shirt says, Always nice talking to you, Jacob, and walks away. Dun dun dun. And then that's when we see the statue, and it's in its entirety. The next flashback we see is a tiny little Kate. It's 1987, she's 10 years old, and there she is with her friend Tom, and they're gonna steal a lunchbox. He's the lookout, she goes to steal it, and then the guy is like, Hey, what are you doing?

SPEAKER_00

Just to show that you can't trust any man at any age because he sucks as a lookout.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And then Jacob makes Kate promise never to steal again. He teasingly touches her nose and tells her to be good. Okay, Doki. In 1976, we are now at a funeral. The funeral is for Mr. and Mrs. Ford. And in case you can't follow along, these are Sawyer's parents.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, kind of figured that out. Like it's because it's funny because wow, I'm like, oh, that little girl was like Kate. Like, you know, they did a really good job with that one. So it was easy to figure out what was going on before there was no head, there was no like drama figuring out what the hell was going on.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm. Uh so this is Sawyer before he was Sawyer. So an eight-year-old James Ford looks on as the coffins are loaded onto the hearses. He's beginning to write his letter to Anthony Cooper, except his pen doesn't work. Who approaches him with the pen? Jacob. I wonder who. We also see the uncle approach him and you know, ask like what he's done, and he reads the letter, and the uncle is like, um, you gotta move on. He's like, What's done is done. Promise me you won't finish. Whoops.

SPEAKER_00

I've said that a couple of times.

SPEAKER_01

Next, we go to a flashback of Saeed, and this is 2005. Saeed and Nadia are walking through Los Angeles. Jacob approaches Said and asks him for directions, mentioning that he's lost. Nadia continues across the street where she is hit by a car. And then, well, now, you know, we see her death because before this we didn't see, I mean, we were told, but like, you know. Um Saeed runs to her as the driver drives away, and she lies mortally wounded on the street, and she asks Said in Arabic to take her home. Sometime prior to 2007, we see Ilana laying in the hospital, and she's in Russia. She's heavily bandaged, and a nurse arrives to inform her that someone came to visit her. She insists that Ilana should see him as he is the first visitor. And who is the visitor? Um, yeah, you guessed it, Jacob. He apologizes to her in Russian for not visiting earlier. In English, he asks her to help him and she says she will. In 2000, Jinn and Sun exchange vows at their wedding. Jinn claims that being separated from his wife would be much like Earth being separated from the sky. At the reception, after being congratulated by Sun's aunt, Jacob approaches and says he wants to give them his blessing. Touching each one of them on the shoulder with each of his hands, he tells them in Korean that their love is special and not to take it for granted. After he leaves, both are perpa uh both are perplexed at exactly who he was, though Jin remarks that his Korean was excellent.

SPEAKER_00

Well, apparent it would it would have to be he's omnipotent, apparently. So, you know, mastering language should be easy.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Let's go to the island. We are in 1977. Kate, Juliet, and Sawyer are on the sub leaving the island. Kate convinces Juliet and Sawyer that they need to stop Jack from detonating a hydrogen bomb on the island. They manage to break free and force the captain to surface, telling him to continue on his course as soon as they leave the submarine. When Captain asks what to say if Horace calls, Sawyer is like, um, pow, and shoots the radio.

SPEAKER_00

Don't have to worry about it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, what has he said? Like you're not ho telling you not home or something. I don't know. Anyway. Um, when they arrive back on the island, they are greeted by Vincent the dog. And who's been taking care of Vincent? Good old Rosen Bernard.

SPEAKER_00

That was happiest to see them.

SPEAKER_01

Uh-huh. She was like, oh, they found us. Yeah, I don't blame her.

SPEAKER_00

Like these people bring nothing but drama and shit.

SPEAKER_01

She said that she and Bernard are now retired and they live a quiet life in their cabin near the beach. Bernard says, all he and Rose care about is being together. When he says this, Juliet sees Sawyer look at Kate. Juliet insists they need to get to the barracks, and Rose points them in the right direction.

SPEAKER_00

I feel so sorry for Juliet.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

All she wants to do is get back to like normal, get back home, live her life with Sawyer. Because these three years they were nice.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And then this shit. She totally sympathizes with um Rose. Like, fuck these motherfuckers again. Like, nice, easy life.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Meanwhile, in the tunnels under the barracks, Jack and Said dismantle the hydrogen bomb in order to remove its core, which is the crucial explosive. Richard mentions that Jack knows John and that Richard had met John on three separate occasions and sensed nothing particularly special about him. Jack tells Richard not to give up on him. Said explains that he will be able to modify the bomb core so that it will detonate. Why did I say it like that? Saeed. Saeed explains that he will be able to modify the bomb core so that it will detonate on impact. Richard Alpert and Eloise Hawking assist Jack and Saeed in entering the barracks via the basement of Horace and Amy's house. Eloise is about to enter the basement, but Richard knocks her out because she's pregnant and he doesn't want her traveling with them to detonate the bomb. He leaves Saeed and Jack on their own. There's a lot of activity outside, so Said dons one of Horace's Dharma jumpsuits in order to blend in. However, Roger Linus recognizes them and shoots Saeed in the stomach. A gunfight follows, but Jack and Saeed escape with Jin and Miles in a van driven by Hurley. They drive toward the construction site of the swan while Jack treats Said's wounds. That, like actually, that scene is kind of like the end, but um actually the the episode ends when the van stops. And they're like, why'd you stop that van? And they're like, that's why.

SPEAKER_00

And you see like Sawyer, Kate, and Juliet with the gun, like and Julia still looks like, I don't want to be, I don't want to do, I don't want to be doing this shit. She's like, the fuck.

SPEAKER_01

In 2007, Richard leads Locke, Ben, son, and the others towards the remains of the four-toed statue where Jacob resides. Locke assigns Ben the task of killing Jacob and provides motivation by reminding Ben of all the bad things that have happened to him. On his way, Richard addresses his skepticism to Locke, stating that though the island has done miraculous things, it has never brought someone back to life. Locke counters that he has never seen a man that never aged.

SPEAKER_00

Until which Richard attributes to Jacob.

SPEAKER_01

Claiming that he wants to thank Jacob, Locke tells Richard that they must also take care of the other Ajira passengers. When asked, Locke simply answers, you know what I mean. The group stops to take a brief break at the oceanic survivor's old campsite. Sun sees the crib Locke made for Aaron, and when she turns it over, she finds Charlie's ring. As Ben sits in solitude, Loc approaches him and notes the remnant of the hatch door behind them, saying that that's where they first met. Locke wants to ask Ben about the day they visited Jacob's cabin. Ben admits he lied and that he was talking to an empty chair. Though he was as much surprised as John when things started to fly around. When asked why all that trouble making such things up, Ben responds that he was ashamed he never saw Jacob and didn't want Locke to know about it. Ben then asks why it must be he who kills Jacob, and Locke reminds Ben of all his misfortunes he had in the name of Jacob, a man he has never met. So the question is, Ben, why the hell wouldn't you want to kill Jacob? At the same time, a group of survivors from Ajira Flight 316, including Ilana and Bram, paddle a canoe to the main island, bringing with them Frank Lapitas and a giant metal crate. When Frank wakes, they tell him he may be a candidate and could be a friend to them. They open the crate and Frank is dismayed by what's inside. What's in the box? What's in the box? What's in the box? What do you think is in the box?

SPEAKER_00

Um stuff.

SPEAKER_01

No, you don't get to say that.

SPEAKER_00

Things. Things.

SPEAKER_01

Oh good lord. Alright, if you had to seriously one guess, what's in the box? What's in the box?

SPEAKER_00

A hydrogen bomb.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. I accept your guess.

SPEAKER_00

You know, it's not a real guess, but okay. As long as you accept it.

SPEAKER_01

No, I mean it's better than stuff, so I guess.

SPEAKER_00

Not by much. Because I just not a real guess, but okay. Um, yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Jacob's um Jacob's body.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. The group travels to Jacob's cabin where they find the ring of ash disturbed. Ilana enters the cabin and finds it in disarray, deserted, except for a scrap of cloth bearing a picture of the statue. Ilana tells the others that he isn't there and that someone else has been using it. She orders the cabin to be set on fire. Because that's the smart thing to do in a forest.

SPEAKER_00

Right? That was the dumbest thing ever. But okay. Even from TV, like TV logic is still the dumbest shit ever.

SPEAKER_01

Even and even Frank is like, um, um, I don't know if that's a good idea, but I think that's about it for this episode. Um, we're gonna definitely get the conclusion in the next one. And even though you don't wanna be realistic about what's in the box, and no, it's not a dick in the box.

SPEAKER_00

Oh fuck then, I really don't care then.

SPEAKER_01

Any predictions for the conclusion about like what's gonna happen with the bomb or the whole Jacob, Locke, Ben?

SPEAKER_00

None. None whatsoever. Oh, I do predict that Jacob will visit. We will see where Jacob visit the rest of the team in the past. Just a guess though. I don't know where it's coming from.

SPEAKER_01

Fair. And I have this is totally unrelated. But I have a game. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, let's game it. As soon as I find it. As my daughter says, my twenty-four-year-old daughter says, up your blood. I think she's regressing.

SPEAKER_01

Damn it, what the hell? Oh, okay. I'm going to I'm going to tell you names, funny names for things, and you're gonna guess what they are. And it says, if the person who named Walkie Talkies named everything. So what would they be naming if they called it a licky sticky?

SPEAKER_00

A lollipop?

SPEAKER_01

No, a stamp.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, licky sticky. Okay, all right. Although we don't lick them anymore, but no, that that's why I think it was like 20 years ago, I would have guessed that.

SPEAKER_01

A hardy starty.

SPEAKER_00

I is this supposed to be like what is this like weighted X? Because you know where my head went straight.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, no, no. Heart T. H-E-A-R-T Y, not hard D. Hard T star T.

SPEAKER_00

No idea.

SPEAKER_01

A defibrillator.

SPEAKER_00

Oh.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. A fuzzy buzzy.

SPEAKER_00

A bee.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, a bee.

SPEAKER_00

A maybe baby. Everybody. A maybe baby. No idea.

SPEAKER_01

A pregnancy test.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

A breasty nesty.

SPEAKER_00

A breasty nesty.

unknown

What the fuck?

SPEAKER_01

Don't over think it.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

A bra.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I guess. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Stabby grabby.

SPEAKER_00

Me. No, um stabby grabby. Is that a knife? I don't know. Close. A fork. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Feedy. I don't know. Feedy heaty. Feedy heedy.

SPEAKER_00

Socks.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Floaty bloaty.

SPEAKER_00

Neomite theory. I know it. What was it? A floaty bloaty?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. A lifesaver? I don't know. Life jacket. What is it?

SPEAKER_01

Hippo. Hippopotamus.

SPEAKER_00

But what was the thing again now? A floaty?

SPEAKER_01

Floaty bloaty.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah. That was a bad one. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I didn't write them. All right. The last one. Screamy dreamy.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, first of all, all these have little double entangres yet. All these are just dirty, and they just want you to think you're. Or is it again a screamy?

SPEAKER_01

Screamy. Screamy, dreamy.

SPEAKER_00

Nightmare.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, a nightmare. You didn't do too bad. You got like three. Three.

SPEAKER_00

Ten. Some of them are so stupid. The animal ones that we did were fun.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

This is why we need to record every single one of our conversations. Our best conversations are when we're not like recording.

SPEAKER_01

I know. I should have saved that one that day for the recording.

SPEAKER_00

But there's still more. I'm sure they could find more online.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, probably. Anyway. Alright, let's wrap up this episode. It was kind of quick because all the extras are gonna be in the next one. I'm gonna save them for the next one.

SPEAKER_00

Ooh.

SPEAKER_01

Ooh. So I think this is the first time that we broke up a finale. But for uh time purposes, we have to. So, anyhow, I know this wasn't a very long episode, but definitely stay tuned for the next one when we wrap up not only the incident, but all of season five. And I cannot wait for you to see how this ends.

SPEAKER_00

And I can wait. I'm overwhelmed. I'm underwhelmed.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, fine. Don't take it. It pulls at the heartstrings, you know?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, see, that's yeah, I don't have that anymore.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, fine. There's a big revelation. Which I think, I think, you will not have seen coming. I could be wrong.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And then we'll do the episode trivia. Well, that we'll do the trivia for the two of them because they're they're a little intertwined.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Sound good?

SPEAKER_00

Sounds like a plant stand.

SPEAKER_01

SPEAKER_00

As we're both sipping us.

SPEAKER_01

I know. I need another sip. And yeah, until next time, I'm Lisa.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm Agnes.

SPEAKER_01

And we're out of here.

See you later. Bye.
