How do they keep popping up with new random people on the fucking islands? Uh, I just just it just boggles my mind. I'm like, first I thought it was like a hallucination. I expected it to be a hallucination.

And I'm like, oh wait, no, there's a new fucking person from an island. The fuck? But yeah, that was it.

She's not quite new. She's just new to us.

Same premise. You like she's not new. Granted, she's not new new, but she's still new. And it's how they just like pop up people, the never-ending character on this island. There's always someone new. It's a little weird, disconcerting. The whole show is weird and disconcerting, but fair. Oh another thing. I'm gonna do my I'm gonna do my dance, I will and grace dance. I told you so. I told you so, I told you so. I told you so. We continue. I know, but you will when we get to that part.

Okay. I'm gonna read the synopsis from Los Pedia. We're gonna do the flashbacks first. One week after her arrival on the island, Juliet is waiting in a nicely decorated room. Harper, a therapist, arrives and begins discussing with her why Juliet is the center of attention and why that makes Juliet feel uncomfortable. When the episode opened, did you think that this was on island? Because I feel like it tried to make you think that it was like the Oceanic Six. You know, like all the publicity and the center of attention and your big news.

I can't tell you why, but it just seemed like a it's it felt like a flashback. It was no particular reason. It just felt like one.

Okay. Suddenly Tom appears and wants to take her to Ben. They leave the therapist's office, which is in the barracks. Tom talks about his own experience with Harper, saying she made him cry about his father. They arrive at a house with Ben waiting on the porch. Ben shows Juliet her welcoming gift. Her own two-bedroom house, fully furnished with an opera music collection. When Juliet says it's a necessary, I shall only be there for six months. Ben responds that he wanted her to feel at home.

That's a nice way of saying you ain't going nowhere. This is now your home.

Fully stocked fridge, no less. And all the pretty plants out front.

You know what? I think I will life is adulting sucks balls. And so yeah, I think I would take them up on that offer, honestly.

You know. Okay, so that was September of 2001. Later on in 2001, it's months later. Juliet is in her office. I mean, how many months later could it be, right? September, there's only like three other months left. But anyway. Juliet is in her office weeping about the loss of a patient, Henrietta, when Goodwin enters and asks her to treat a burn he says he got from leaning against a transform transformer at a power station. She makes night comments about Harper, who turns out to be Goodwin's wife.

Juliet says that if Goodwin promises not to tell his wife what she said, she won't tell anyone about his chemical burn.

Is it just me, husband or not? If those are my feelings against my therapist, not being catty, but this is just how I feel about somebody. I don't care if that's your wife or not. I'm not taking that shit back. It's the truth.

Uh does that make me a horrible person? No, but I guess she's new and they're on an island. So like you're stuck with these people. So I guess she doesn't, maybe she just doesn't want to like feel alienated further. I don't know. That's what I would guess.

Maybe. But I feel people even off an island today living normal lives will have that same kind of feeling. But also, I don't tell anyone, I don't talk about anyone. I don't say anything about a person that I have not said to their face anyway. So it's not like if like, oh, I got cut off there. I'm like, you knew what it was. Um maybe I am going to hell. I just hope my wing gets my expansion of my wing down there gets completed before I get down there. I wouldn't want to live. And yeah, I don't want to live in construction. That's just hell.

Sometime, which seems like early 2002, Juliet is discussing the problem with pregnancy on the island with Ben, and Goodwin barges into the lab, cheerfully calling Juliet. Seeing Ben, he becomes awkward and asks if either of them would like a sandwich because Ethan's out sick. When they both decline, he leaves. Ben watches seemingly now aware of the romantic relationship between the two of them. Later that day, Harper confronts Juliet during a therapy session about the affair that Juliet's been having with Goodwin and asks when they started sleeping together. Something Juliet initially denies. Harper then reveals that she knows Juliet's full of shit because she followed them and she watched him having sex. Like, ooh, you voyeur.

And she adds that if she continues having an affair with Goodwin, there will be consequences, and she doesn't want Goodwin to get hurt. Juliet replies that she will not hurt him, but Harper says that she's not talking about Juliet, but about what Ben will do if he finds out. As Ben is smitten with Juliet because she looks just like her.

Any well, at this point, the other woman in the title is not Harper. It's definitely who she looks just alike.

According to this, it says like 2003 or 4, but we just know that it's sometime later. Juliette has not told Goodwin about Harper knowing about the affair or that she confronted her about it. Goodwin and Juliet are on a private date at a beach far from the barracks. And Oblivious Goodwin says he wants to tell everyone about the relationship and that it shouldn't matter to his wife, who says he's been sleeping on the couch for over a year. But Juliette says Ben wouldn't like it. Goodwin then asks if it's because Ben has a crush on her and reveals that everyone recognizes this fact because he follows her around like a puppy. Goodwin says that he has been working with chemicals that could kill every man, woman, and child on the island if he flips the wrong switch, and that Ben has enough on his plate then to worry about the two of them. Juliette expresses that she is still concerned Ben would be upset, but Goodwin laughs dismissively. What's he gonna do? Well, here's what he's gonna do. In September 22nd, nineteen Wow, no. September twenty second, two thousand four, the scene immediately jumps to the previously shown scene of the crash of Flight eight fifteen, including Ben telling Goodwin to go undercover. This time we see Juliette and Goodwin exchanging worried glances in front of Harper. Goodwin leaves without looking at Harper. Then Juliet and Harper exchange glances too. October two thousand four. Three weeks later, Ben invites Juliet to a dinner party, which turns out to be a private date for just the two of them. Ben tricked her into an evening alone with him. They start to talk about Zack and Emma and how good Juliet has been with them. Juliet then says that they have been asking about their mother in Los Angeles and since they're only children, if they really belong on the island with them. But Ben replies that they're on the list, and who are they to question who is on the list or not? Ben then becomes angered when she mentions Goodwin, as he's been undercover for weeks now and they've already retrieved the people from the list for the tale section. Julia tells him that after losing Ethan, it's a risk, suggesting he may also be caught. He tells her that Goodwin cannot come back yet and claims that he is making a case for Anna Lucia to join their society, adding that Goodwin seems to have an appropri an inappropriate relationship with Anna Lucia trying to make Juliette jealous. There is no reason for him to hurry back, Ben remarks, but his assignment will be over soon. Later that month, Ben comes to see Juliette, who's reading Jack's file that Mikhail gave her. She tells him about Jack's surgical skills, especially against tumors. However, Ben doesn't seem very interested in that news for the moment as he has something else on his mind. He takes Juliet on a walk to a hillside where she is directed to Goodwin's decomposing body laying in plain sight, impaled upon a wooden stake. The decomposition suggests that he has been laying dead for at least a week or so. Ben reveals he knows about their affair, and Juliette accuses him of deliberately sending Goodwin on a suicide mission. She asks why he would do this. Ben then underlines the fact that the reason he is keeping her on the island is because she's his. And he's, you know, he says, You're mine. Then he says that she can have as much time as she needs to grieve for the loss of her lover.

What happened? We don't know, there weren't any witnesses. I can only assume they found out he wasn't one of them. Why are you showing me this? Why did you bring me out here? Oh, you mean instead of his wife? You knew this would happen. You said an audio because you knew this would happen. You watched you watched You're asking me why? After everything I did to get you here, after everything I've done to keep you here, how can you possibly not understand? You're mine as much time as you need.

Um, not creepy at all. Not at all. On the island at the beach camp, Sun approaches Juliet, who is erecting a new tent on the beach. Sun asks her why she's setting up a tent on the supposed last days of the island. Well, on the island. Jack then approaches, asking if anyone has seen Daniel and Charlotte, who had vanished overnight. No one has seen them, and Jack becomes visibly upset. Jin admits he saw them enter the jungle, but didn't mention anything because Jack said they are friends. Jack, Juliet, son, and Jin and Vincent begin searching for them. Like I'm sure Vincent was like, Cool, I'll help. Vincent's like, cool, we're going on a walk.

I think he's probably the most useful in this situation, but you know.

Well, you know, since Kate's not there and all, yeah. Right. Juliet is walking through the jungle and suddenly hears the whispers. She looks around and finds Harper standing behind her, who says that Ben has a message for her. Daniel and Charlotte are heading toward towards the Tempest, and Juliet has to stop them using deadly force if necessary. If they figure out how to deploy the gas, everyone is going to die. Juliette asks why Harper doesn't stop them herself, and Harper answers that it's Ben's wish that Juliet does it, and says that although Ben is a prisoner, he is exactly where he wants to be. Harper says that Juliet must kill Daniel and Charlotte. The conversation is interrupted by Jack, who points his gun at Harper and demands to know who she is. I'm Jack. Answer my question.

Oh we know. We know how much you love him. She says she's an old friend of Juliet's, and she was telling her where the people they are looking for are headed, and that Jack with his gun should go there too. The whispers are heard again and Harper disappears. After looking around for Harper in vain, Juliet conveys what she has been told to Jack, and that the Tempest is an electrical station. Juliette asks for Jack's assistance without fully revealing everything, and he agrees. It's so funny how Jack is like really persistent when he wants information. You know, oh, you're gonna tell me? Are you gonna tell me? Like, tell me, tell me, tell me. But somehow when it's Juliet, he doesn't push as hard. And we're gonna see, like, we're gonna see an example of that in a in a few minutes. Then we see Daniel and Charlotte pause near a stream in the jungle. They're looking at Daniel's map, and he has doubts about whether or not he'll be able to achieve their goal. But she says she is convinced that he can do it and that they should get going. Daniel seems convinced, and suddenly Kate appears. Charlotte draws her pistol, but Daniel assures her that Kate poses no threat. Kate tells them about Miles, that Locke has him, but that he is fine. After Kate asks what they are doing in the jungle, Charlotte tells a lie about the sap phone running out of juice and that they volunteered to get some fresh batteries from the packs they threw out of the chopper. Kate can see that the green light is on the phone and she gets suspicious. She asks why Daniel has a large pack if they're looking for the packs, and they invite her to look. Inside, she sees that it contains gas masks, and Charlotte knocks her out. Like, Kate can be so smart, but I was very surprised that she was dumb enough to like turn her back.

Yeah. Um I think she was still kind of like shaken up over the conversation she had with Sawyer. But this is right after that night.

So her mind is probably elsewhere.

Jack and Juliet continue through the jungle discussing Harper. Juliet reveals to Jack that Harper was her therapist, and he comments that she seems rather hostile. He's also like, you guys have therapists. Like, it's very stressful being an other than Jack.

I feel like the therapist they need to have more than one therapist because I'm sure that there, like, what's the therapist need a therapist? I mean, everyone's gonna lose their shit eventually.

They trade comments about things they prefer to ignore from their past, and Jack comments that Juliet knows about all of them because she read his file. She replies, Trust me, Jack, you don't want to see my file. The two of them then stumble across Kate, who is just coming around from being knocked out by Charlotte. Juliette, looking a bit upset, offers to go get Kate some water. Kate and Jack discuss what happened, and Kate tells him about the gas masks after Jack tells her that they're looking for a power station. Jack begins to call frantically for Juliette, but she doesn't answer. They follow Juliet's trail, discovering Daniel and Charlotte's tracks as well. Kate tells Jack that she stayed behind because she wanted to find out what the freighter people knew about her, you know, basically if she's that she's wanted for murder. And this is when Jack was like, Well, are you gonna tell me? So the people on the freighter, the Kahana, know that she's a fugitive. Then Juliet gets to the tempest, she notices that the security system is destroyed, and she opens the pulley door and draws her gun. Walking along the catwalk, Juliet sees Daniel wearing a hazmat suit and a gas mask. He's working at the station's computer as messages blare over the speaker's warning about contamination. Juliet holds the gun on Daniel as he questions what she's doing there. She snatches off his gas mask, telling him that he will die with the rest if he releases the gas. But he counters that he's not trying to release it, but actually to render it inert or to make it safe. Just then, Charlotte pulls it again. She hits Juliet from behind with a metal bar. A struggle ensues as Daniel continues working on the computer. It's like Charlotte's favorite move whack on the head from behind.

Juliet then recovers her gun and tells Charlotte to order Daniel to stop what he's doing. But Charlotte confirms that they're trying to prevent Ben from releasing the gas to kill everyone on the island. And Charlotte says, We know he's done it before. Juliet continues to hold the gun on Daniel, seemingly having an inner struggle, but then lets him complete the task seconds before the quote unquote contamination. As Juliet and Charlotte exit the tempest, they bump into Jack and Kate. After a brief confrontation where Charlotte tells him that she and Daniel just saved their lives, like Charlotte loves to gaslight people. Who just saved your lives. I mean, they kind of did, but anyway. Like Charlotte loves to be the hero, right?

I feel like you pretty much okay. You're like these people are not the original people that was with Ben in the little neighborhood. They were crash landed on the plane. Obviously, you're trying to get Ben and disrupt his plan. So why not be a little bit trusting of these people? And that makes me worried. I question their motives, if that makes sense. You may not want to tell them everything, but they're not part of Ben's people.

Right. So Kate follows Charlotte inside to see what she's referring to, but Jack says he'll take their word for it. Juliet also remains. Outside where she confides in Jack, telling him that these people came here to wage war against Ben and Ben's going to win. And when he does, Jack, you don't want to be anywhere near me. Jack asks her why, and she replies that Ben thinks she is his and he knows how I feel about you. They share a kiss, and Jack tells her that Ben knows where to find him if he wants to. He then comforts her with a kiss as the tempest lights flicker. At the barracks, Claire approaches Locke as he's cleaning a rabbit, requesting to speak to Miles about who they are and where they came from. She reasons that because they shot one, killed one, and are holding one captive, it's reasonable that they are seen as hostile, but that she might be less intimidating. Locke refuses, asking if she remembered what Charlie said about the boat. Clara reminds him that all Charlie said was whose boat it wasn't, and wouldn't he like to know whose boat it is? In the basement, Locke brings Ben food and clean clothing. Ben questions whether the rabbit that was served to him had a number on it. Just before Locke leaves, Ben asks, Has the revolution begun yet? He tells Locke that if he's not careful, his people will organize an insurrection, and that Locke's people will be very angry when they find out he doesn't have a plan. He then attempts to undermine Locke's confidence by talking about leadership. Locke cuts Ben off by revealing that he knows about the discussion Ben had with Miles concerning the $3.2 million, and Locke sarcastically provides Ben with his first dollar. Taking a dollar out of your pocket is not a weird thing, but if you've been on that island for three months, I feel like it's still kind of weird to have a dollar in your pocket.

I would say yes and no. How many times have you washed a pair of jeans or a pair of something, and the same dollar has been folded and washed in the pockets numerous times?

Yeah, I guess it's like I think I think the context that they're on a fucking deserted island, he's a dollar, that kind of throws you off. But you make a bigger picture, you're like, yeah, that's not so weird.

Because at home you see dollar bills all the time. Money is just money, not anymore. You see critical, but you know what I mean. Give some, it's like it's kind of like the new constant where you still see the money as your attachment to the real world. Okay, I am so far down to this fucking rabbit hole. Ben then attempts to persuade Loc to let him live in one of the houses in exchange for the information he wants. Ben will have to show Locke proof. Ben and Locke discuss trust issues and reach a deal. Ben says that if his people wanted him back, they would have already stormed the barracks. Ben reveals a safe to Locke which is hidden behind a picture in his house. Locke opens it to find a video tape marked Red Sox. They play the tape, and Ben explains that Charles Whidmore, the man shown in the tape, is the one who owns the freighter and that he has been trying to find the island. The footage shows a blindfolded man who Ben says is one of his people who had been captured and he was getting beaten by Whidmore. Ben says he doesn't know how Whidmore knows about the island and that he thinks Woodmore wants to exploit it. Ben gets a file out of the safe and gives it to Locke. He explains that it contains all information he has gathered about Whidmore, which is a combination of guesswork and concrete facts. Locke demands to know the identity of Ben's man on the boat, and Ben agrees to tell him but warns him that he might want to sit down. Hurley and Sawyer are playing horseshoes. Hurley makes a lucky shot, and when Sawyer is surprised, Hurley says that he's just lucky. Then they see Ben walking freely into his home. Amid their confusion as to why Ben is walking about freely. Ben cheerfully says, See you guys at dinner. Hurley and Sawyer playing together is so fucking cute. Like it's just like the most unlikely of friendships.

But is it really? I feel like it was just bound. Like they, I don't know. It's that's so it's not so weird to me.

Okay, so if you if you had to just take a guess about why she has been chosen to be part of the freighter team, or or why, you know, or why she's drawn here, whatever. What would your best or just most wackiest theory be?

I wouldn't think she's an anthropologist that specializes in weird freaky shit. Hello, the polar bear in the desert. I feel like um, yeah, she somehow works with I don't know, it's Whitmore per se, but she has to do with the weird shit. And yeah, that's yeah, she's Whitmore's weird scientist girl.

The title of this episode, The Other Woman, refers to the fact that Juliet is one, the other woman, aside from Harper Stan Pope, who Goodwin is seeing, two, the other woman, aside from Kate, whom Jack has feelings for. Three, the other woman, to then aside from the woman whom Juliet looks just like, and four, a woman who was or is one of the others. I think this is like one of the most versatile titles that we've had so far.

No, they pretty much picked a title for one of those reasons, but it fits to 600 other things. I uh it just like, oh hey, if it's this, if it's this, if it's this, okay, we're gonna go with all of it. I think that's what it was. It was a oh, if it's this, and at most, let's say two different things, and but at the same time, it happens to fit the other items. So then, okay, we're gonna go with it and run with it. I'm not giving these writers so much credit, like some of this stuff is happening stance. They could not have been smoking. This shit that they were smoking could not have been that good. Well, actually, probably could have been.

All right, so then if Charlotte is a freaky ex-file anthropologist, it's been like five-ish episodes since we've met them. So, what would your take on also Daniel and Miles be so far and why them?

SPEAKER_01 31:35

Well, Daniel, well, he's a scientist, and I kind of he's able to explain that electrical, not explain it, but have some kind of scientific well. First of all, he did the whole time travel. It may not be how we see time travel as our physical form, but a conscious time travel. So we saw that in last week's episode. Electrical pulsing, the storm. I somehow it's all connected. His scientific background kind of makes sense because we already knew something's weird with his place. Miles, maybe on the off chance, this dude really is psychic and just jaded, which is possible. I don't fucking know. Okay, but the anthropologist really just throws me off. Like I can find a rabbit hole for each of the other people, and the pilot is just kind of obvious, you know. But the uh my head's spinning with rabbit holes. I feel like Alice.

This episode takes place on Christmas Day 2004, and it's the fifth episode that takes place completely on the island. The name of the Dharma station is the same title of William Shakespeare's play, first published in 1623. 16 and 23, both being numbers. It tells the story of the sorcerer Prospero. Prospero? I never read it. I don't know how to pronounce it.

He separates and manipulates the survivors of the wreck for his own purposes. The play ends with Prospero restored to his former glory. How's that for some shit? Makes sense. Oh, does it differ?

Supposedly there's a woman who looked just like Juliet, but we don't know who it is because it's only a reference so far.

And then in a previous episode, Ben said that he chose Juliet to contact Jack because she had a spike, a striking resemblance to Sarah, who was Jack's wife. So apparently Juliet just either looks like everybody or it's the same person. I mean, who knows? I mean, uh I mean I know, but anyway.

The plane crash is shown for a third time, but this time from the barracks point of view. And each time they show it, they add new footage, you know, or information. Ben had asked Locke if the rabbit had a number on it, which referred to the rabbits that were seen in the orc orchid orientation film, and the rabbit with the number eight that he used to con Sawyer into thinking that he had implanted with a pacemaker. Charlotte had referred to Ben using the gas to kill before, during the purge, and man behind the curtain.

And then we have more questions. So we've already talked about who does Juliet look like? Where the fuck did Harper come from, and where did she disappear to? I mean, uh, you know, at least a prisoner in the sense that he's still a prisoner, but before he was locked in a basement.
