Oh, so they want yeah, it's supposed to be two parts, like two episodes, but the script was like 30 pages too long, and so that's how they worked out a deal to end up with the third episode. Because they were like, you know, we we want all this stuff in the episode.

And I was like, okay, and I'm like, oh, it wasn't that bad. I'm thinking, see, part two for me was hard. I'm like, oh, that was hard. Like, even though you knew it was coming, it's still kind of like, oh no. Um but what I just uh I don't think I wanted to kill you for the last for the end. I was more like, okay, but but confused?

That's one of the beautiful things about this season finale is that it kind of answered a bunch of questions. It started with the resolution and then it worked its way through how they got there. But at the same time, by the end of the third part, you're like, okay, well, now we know what happened to these guys. You got that big answer, and then it left you with, but what happened to everybody else? And what happened in the meantime?

Um, yeah, just okay, so you would have thought I would have been highly upset considering my love for this person, but in Lost World, based on Lost's MO, he has a I think they could still keep him in there for two seasons.

We see dead people, so we see dead people all the time. Um yeah, the moment I start seeing like dead people and having conversations with them, I'm gonna go to my neurologist and ask for MRI. Um, so I thought I was more like, but but but yeah, a lot of questions.

On the island, tracking the helicopter and leaving for the freighter. The survivors are busy discussing what to do following the discovery of the satellite phone dropped from the helicopter. Daniel enters a code that activates the quote-unquote monitor-only mode, and they listen to the conversation on the helicopter. Kimi is speaking to Frank and orders him to land the helicopter. Frank says that they're not there yet, but Kimi is like, fuck that, land this bitch. I mean, not really, but yeah. And then he says, as soon as we hit the ground, we deploy to the orchid. Jack is determined to follow the helicopter because he's Jack. Um, Juliet tells him that recovery is not sitting around. Thank you, Juliet. I say the same ship. And he wants Jack to rest. And Jack is like, no, I'm Jack. And he asks Kate if she wants to take a walk.

I really need to understand. I said this so many times throughout the seasons. Okay, yes, he's a doctor and he's important to the group. He's necessary. But how does a doctor become the unofficial leader of the group?

I just I would I got over the island. I was like, can we have the guy that has some like I don't know, real world life experience? Yeah, like I don't know, the one who can actually keep us alive, especially when shit stop hitting the van. I'm like, yes, I what are we doing, but like what's going on?

But I think that maybe, and and maybe maybe I'll take some heat for this. Please don't cancel me. But I think that a lot of doctors, namely surgeons, have hero complexes, and Jack, no, no different, you know.

Um, I have and and in fairness, though, right? I mean, stressful situation, a lot of confusion. Somebody wants to step up, and you see that no matter how successful or unsuccessful he is, and you know, his personality and all that, you see that he's trying to do the the good thing. Like, right, he he's he's not trying to screw them over, he's he's trying to just lead by what he thinks is for the best of the group. His intentions are are good, so I guess it's easy to accept him as the leader. Although you saw, like, after that there was a split in the group, not everybody decided that they wanted to follow him.

And I think that was kind of just based on whether we stay or whether we go, not him per se.

I think it was a combination. Not everybody wanted to leave, but also I think not everybody wanted to follow Jack. Because they when it came to the people on the freighter, remember Charlie gave the warning, this is not Penny's boat. And some of them were saying that the people on the freighter, they're well, Ben was saying they're not here to rescue us. And Jack is like, no, no, no, they are. I'm Jack, I say so, blah, blah, blah. And not everybody believed that it was for the good, and was like, we don't necessarily want to stay, but we don't want to be with you in the freighter. Like, that's the wrong move.

Thank you, thank you. Anyhow, Jack and Kate run off into the jungle yet again. In the jungle. Meanwhile, Daniel searches through his jungle for a page containing information about the orchid and warns Charlotte that Kimi and his men are using the secondary protocol and they must leave the island immediately. I never really noticed this before, but how the fuck did Daniel know about that?

Daniel knows a lot more than you thought he would have been given information on. Well, those three people, like, why these three people? Like, his is obvious as as a scientist, and the e you know, but everyone else is kind of weird. But I think there's a lot more he knows, yeah, improving to.

I can't I can't tell you why, but I have one, you know, it's it's been a while since I've watched this like straight through, but I feel like there's one reason that could explain why he knew, but I can't tell you. But I have to like keep it in mind for the future to see if I'm right. Because it like it just never stuck out to me before. But I'm gonna I'm gonna put that in our notes and see if my theory makes sense, and then when we get to it, I'll I'll tell you.

Kate notices that Jack's wound is bleeding, but Jack jacks and is like, no, no, no, it's fine.

Kate says that she knows when other people are lying because they look away from her, but in Jack's case, it's the opposite. Suddenly they hear a noise, and both of them take off their weapons, and it's just Miles coming out of the bush, like he's so fucking oblivious. He's like, dum-dum-dum, oh shit.

It's like he's just taking a little acting stroll, like there's not a single car in the world.

But I kind of like that about him.

Because he's more like get get upset over what? Like it doesn't change whatever danger I may or may not be in. The fuck.

Yeah, yeah. And he's followed by Sawyer carrying Aaron. Kate and Sawyer exchange uneasy stares before Kate asks where Claire is. Can I just say that the look on Sawyer's face in this scene, it was just it was just such good acting, like subtle, the subtleness of the pain in his face. Right?

Like the little nuances that we that people go through, the facial feature, like when you don't know it, it's just like you know, your body's reacting, your face reacts to things. I think that's the hardest thing to act and do. Like things that are involuntary.

So I think that's yeah, because I felt his pain, his confusion, his I felt all of it.

Yeah, because it's like remember, he they couldn't find her, and so they assumed that she went back to the beach. But the fact that Kate and Jack were like, Well, where's Claire? Told him that no, he didn't go back to the she didn't go back to the beach. And so instantly it was like a sadness, and then like the realization solidifying his fear, like shit, she didn't. And you could see he's like it was like you could see like he didn't want to tell them what happened, and at the same time, like the sadness that she's gone, you know.

I wonder, like, in his head, like how did he how that makes sense to him? Like, she was there and then she wasn't, and she's gone.

But if she would have succumbed to her injuries, wouldn't she just be close when her body would be close by? And uh like the confusion, like I would have been all types of confusion, right?

And and the fact that it seems like no one, you know, no no one had found her. So, you know what could have happened. Jack wants to continue into the jungle. He tells Kate to take care of the baby and head back to the beach. But Sawyer catches up to Jack. What does he say? He's like, You don't get to die alone.

I said this uh if I said it once, I'll say it a million more times. Or if I said it a million times, I say it again. Well, anyway, with all his brashness and his no fucks given, he has the heart of gold. His moral compass might be a little off at times, but he's the he's definitely a good person.

There's like at least three solid examples of it in this episode, and that's one of them. Like this this whole scene, the way he feels about Claire, him protecting the baby, you know, and then and then deciding like Jack can't go alone. That's one. They follow the signal on the satellite phone until they reach the helicopter, and Frank is handcuffed to it. Sawyer's uneasy about approaching Frank, but Jack assures him that he's trustworthy. The two proceed to find a way to uncuff Frank, who promises to fly them off the island as soon as they do. He says that with the mercenaries on the island, it's the last place they want to be, and that the freighter is the safest place.

That's a very good point. He says that the men are at the orchid waiting to capture Ben and to do terrible things to whoever is with him. Sawyer realizes that Hurley is with that is with Sawyer realizes that Hurley is with Ben to Jack's frustration, and they decide they cannot leave yet. So now they go on a walk to the orchid. Meanwhile, Saeed arrives at the beach and offers to ferry people six at a time back to the freighter. Kate comes out of the jungle with Aaron and tells Said what happened, and Saeed wants to run off after Jack and Sawyer to warn them about the freighter mercenaries. Daniel offers to ferry people to the freighter in his place. Juliet says the son is pregnant, so she should leave first. Kate wants to go to Saeed to help track Jack and Sawyer, and she gives Aaron to son. Now Kate and Said head off into the jungle. Daniel takes Son Jin Aaron and three random people onto the zodiac. Did you wonder, like all those people that he ferried back and forth? How come none of them were like, let me on the helicopter?

I well at the time they didn't know if the helicopter was there for good or bad.

In the jungle, Kate and Saeed are tracking Jack and Sawyer's footprints. Kate notices a different set of tracks that have double back on them. Said calls for whoever is following them to reveal themselves, and it's Richard Albert, and he emerges from the jungle, and Kate and Sawyer draw their guns to tell Richard to stand down, and then he's like, Well, calm down, you know. And then basically he's like, light him up, except not as iconic.

Richard, I gotta say, I was kind of sort of expecting an iconic kind of response, but maybe the non-iconicness of it made it iconic. No? Okay, I tried.

He just Richard disarms them, and then the others begin escorting them to an undefined location. Traveling to the orchid, Ben leads Locke and Hurley through the jungle. He explains that if, as Christian told Locke, they need to move the island, then there's only one place to do that, the orchid. Hurley asks Ben why he didn't move the island before the mercenaries arrived, and Ben replied because doing so is both dangerous and unpredictable, a measure of last resort. Along the way, Ben stops at a rock formation and pulls out a hidden case. Inside are binoculars, a signaling mirror, and Dharma Initiative Cracker tin. Locke gives the tin to Hurley who opens it and starts eating the crackers. After telling Hurley that the crackers are 15 years old, Ben uses the mirror to reflect light in order to signal something to someone on a nearby cliff. The person on the cliff responds with more reflected light. And Locke wants to know who who he was communicating with. And Ben said, Who do you think? And then Locke wants to know what he said, and Ben is like, none of your business. Oh Ben, you have all the answers, don't you?

He kind of does. And this is the because so obviously he's communicated with one of his people, the others. And at this point, I was like, Yeah, whatever happened to them, I can you forget about them.

Later, the three reach the orchid only to find that Kimi's team have already made it there. Ben gives Locke very specific instructions on what to do once inside the station, which involves finding a secret elevator to the real station. He hands him his telescopic baton, then walks out into the open where Kimi's team can see him. Kimi comes out and Ben surrenders. Kimi holds a gun to Ben's head but then hits him with it instead.

I mean, obviously he couldn't shoot him because that'd be the like goes against the scripts. But if you dare to kill him, why not just kill him? Unless they want information.

Well no. They'll k they they were gonna kill whoever, but they wanted to take Ben alive.

Ben was alive, that's right. Right, right, right. Okay. But I can understand. I kinda get one to kill Ben, though. Like he'll make you like he has a little moment, she's like uh Daniel arrives on the raft with Sun, Jin, Aaron, and the three Randoles, and Desmond helps them aboard.

Daniel heads back to get more people to ferry, and Michael arrives and informs Desmond that the engines are fixed. And then, you know, it's like hew the faces, like, what? Michael? said son and gin? You're here? No, they didn't say that. But that's what their face said.

Yeah. In the bridge, Desmond has Hendrix, who acts as a helmsman, try the engine and it works. However, they can't move closer to the island because of some RF interference, which prevents them from being able to see the reef. The RF interference is coming from the boat. The call is coming from inside the boat. Desmond says he'll find the source and shut it off. Oh, and he does, but he doesn't. He does and he doesn't. He finds the source, he doesn't shut it off.

Jin and Sun are talking to Michael, who explains his situation. Son is surprised to see him working for Ben, and he replies, he's not working for Ben. He's trying to atone for what he did. Desmond bursts out of the ship calling Michael for help. Jin, Michael, and son, who's carrying Aaron, follow him and he leads them to a room full of explosives. At what point should Desmond have been like, son, maybe you don't want to come with us?

You know, to be fair, I can see that happening. Like in a manic in a moment of panic, you just very tunnel vision. Literally and figuratively.

But Jin is Jin tells Sun to leave, you know, and she goes back up on deck. Flash forwards. The Oceanic Six return. Kate and Aaron. Two pilots are at the helm of a transport plane. The pilot chastises the co-pilot for clinging to his lucky charm, which is a rabbit's foot. The co-pilot says he has to be extra vigilant considering the cargo they're carrying. I feel like the cargo they're carrying should be considered like good luck, right? And we have a plane crash in the middle of the ocean, and despite, you know, quote unquote all the odds, those are the survivors who le live three months.

Well the fact that I mean, yeah, they survived, but they were on a plane that crashed to begin with.

Like you should. I mean, I would have flown into a wall. Karen Decker, who's an Oceanic Airlines representative, is strapped into the jump seat right behind them. The pilots tell Becker they're approaching the runway. The Oceanic 6 are aboard a U.S. Coast Guard transport aircraft en route to a military location just west of Honolulu. Decker tells them that their families are waiting for them and that they don't have to speak to the press. Jack insists that they're alright with speaking to the press. The whole time he's speaking for all of them kind of annoyed me, and I figured it annoyed you too.

Annoyed me to the highest level of annoyance because Jack was jacking. But to be fair, they lit him.

And other than Saeed, okay, say what you're gonna say. But other than Saeed, there is really wasn't anyone else to take the lead. And who's the public going to listen to as a representative? Saeed or Jack?

Yeah, that's a good, that's definitely a good observation.

And I think although Saeed is probably more eloquent, what do you say?

Aaron would have been better, absolutely. And honestly, Said is more eloquent and able to convey messages quite intelligently. He's a better speaker, better representative. But you know, the brown guy versus the white guy.

The woman leaves, and Jack tells the rest to stick to the story, and that if they don't have an answer, to just stay quiet and the press will assume that they're in shock. Sun replies that they are in shock, to which Jack replies, then this should be easy. The six exit the back of the transport. Carmen and David Reyes, Mr. and Mrs. Peck, and Margot Shepherd are all waiting for them. The three families are overjoyed to see each other. Said and Kate have no one greeting them. Hugo jumps back after hugging his mom hello, and he introduces Said, who gets the full family hug treatment. I was surpr I thought like not that I thought, but like I'm I'm surprised that they didn't have him grab Kate instead.

I think, but if I remember correctly, his yes, he's a gentleman, but also he and Saeed had more time together.

Yeah, I guess. As the remainder of the six meet up with their families, Kate just holds on tight to the baby and looks around alone.

Well, it could have been worse, right? She could have not been alone because it could have been a fucking marshal there waiting for her.

I kind of have expected that too. But I think, but, and I'm like, no, the optics, they wouldn't have done that. Like this what they the plane crashed, they were deserted, they would have thought they were dead.

I feel like that would have been even more juicy because then it would have been like, you know, you're holding a fucking press conference, and then it's like, ooh, escaped fugitive.

The Oceanic Six press conference. So this is Saeed. Later, Oceanic holds a press conference with the Oceanic Six. Karen Decker presents a fabricated story of how the Oceanic Six survived based on the already found staged wreckage of Flight A15 at the bottom of the Sunda Trench in the Indian Ocean. According to the story, the survivors were carried by the ocean's current after the crash to the uninhabited island of Membata, where they survived for 108 days. On the 103rd day, a typhoon washed up the remnants of an Indonesian fishing boat, including a survival raft, on which they traveled to the Indonesian island of Sumba to find rescue. How lucky for them that there was a typhoon that they could blame a uh raft on happened.

One reporter suggests that for having been trapped on an island for the amount of time that they were, they looked to be in remarkable health. Hurley asks if that question is directed at him, and everybody laughs. The same reporter asks Hurley what it will be like to get his money back. He says he doesn't want it back because it brought bad luck. Another reporter asks Sun a question in Korean. One of the news reporters calls out for translation and Sun translates the question to be whether Jin was one of the tr the passengers who made it out of the plane. And she responds no, he died in the crash. Kate is asked what it was like giving birth on the island, to which she replied scary. At the time of the press conference, Aaron should be about five weeks old, and the reporter follows up by challenging her version, noting that she would have been six months pregnant when she was apprehended in Australia. Decker hastily cuts off the sign of questioning and explains that her legal issues are off the table. When asked about the possibility that other survivors might yet be found, Said replies no, absolutely not. So as a side note, there was an enhanced episode that aired, and Jack named the other three survivors as Boone, who died of massive internal injuries, a woman named Libby, who also died within the first week, and Charlie, who drowned just a few weeks before they got off the island. And Said also confirmed that he will not be returning to Iraq saying there was nothing for me in Iraq. So I like that it like it's interesting because as a you know, just to continue with the side note, he names three other people who had pretty prominent roles in the show for us. And he kind of told the truth about how they, you know, like the circumstances of their death.

His mother scolds him for contemplating uses the statue at a weapon using the statue as a weapon. She's like, Jesus is not a weapon.

Kate tells Ben to stay close, then gives him the cue to run into the jungle. As Kimi breaks cover to chase Ben and Kate, Frank yells, grenade, as one lands at Kimi's feet. He kicks it away inadvertently, lobbing it to land at Omar's feet and dives back behind the rock. The grenade explodes and kills Omar. And as the debris settles, Kimi stands after Yeah. You know what Omar said? It wasn't I'll catch a grenade for you.

At one point, Saeed manages to get it and pointed at Kimi, only to have it kicked out of his hands. As they grapple to again retrieve the gun, Said quickly unsheathes the combat knight strapped to Kimi's leg and stabs him in the side of his torso in between his body armor. This only infuriates Kimi, who then beats Saeed to the ground. As he bends over to retrieve the knife, Saeed hits him from behind with the tree branch. The fight continues, and eventually Kimi gains the advantage, pitting Saeed and strangling him with the tree branch.

This was actually one of the best fights I've seen on TV. Because it was it was they both took turns being like, oh, so it's always leading that soon, so it's has upper hand, and it wasn't just completely one-sided. It was a good fight.

Kate then picks up Kimi's bloody combat knife, and Ben asks her to cut him free from his restraints.

On the freighter, Michael finds a canister of liquid nitrogen and after explaining his plan to Jin and Desmond, sprays it on the bomb's battery to freeze it and prevent electric current from igniting the C4 Desmond found rigged to the boat. While he buys time before the bomb goes off, Desmond and Jin frantically search for a way to disarm the explosives. But all they could come up with is boom. You do this, boom, boom. You do this, boom, boom. You do this, and then even Jen is like boom.

Charlotte is packing her bag. Dan arrives and tells the two of them that he will be making his next trip in ten minutes and that they need to be on the boat. Miles tells him that while he realizes the situation is dire, he's going to stay on the island. Daniel then leaves to continue preparations for the next trip. Because fuel is so low, Frank doesn't think they'll make it to the freighter. He tells him to throw anything out that isn't bolted bolted down. Halo's like, we're gonna go back to the island. Jack's like, there's no fuel on the island.

Jack Locke is unable to locate the entrance to the elevator because he doesn't know what anthuriums look like. Locke has not yet explained to Jack that they're going to move the island, but there's no time. Ben shows Locke the anthuriums, they enter the elevator and descend. Locke and Ben exit the elevator to find themselves in the orchid station.

Like as they walk inside, Locke observes the various equipment and have a nearby television. He looks to Ben and asks, Is this the magic box? Ben looks back at him with an absurd look and says, No. Ben then offers Locke a video to answer all his questions about the station. He puts the video on the television and doctor Edgar Haliwax appears. In the video, Haliwax explains that the orchid is not really a botanical research station. Instead, the orchid was designed to investigate unique properties of the island, and it is these properties that create a kind of Casimir effect. He points to a white triangular door, calling it the vault. Haliwax explains that the vault was constructed adjacent to what they believe to be a pocket of negative charged exotic matter. Haliwax then warns the viewer never to place any metal objects inside the vault. He then places a white rabbit in the vault, closing the doors and stating that they will send it 100 milliseconds into the future. But then the VCR starts rewinding by itself. Locke never got to see the uh outcome. Neither did he.

The elevator starts to ascend suddenly, and Ben asks Locke if he can have his weapon back. The elevator descends again and opens to reveal Kimi still alive. Kimi pulls out a knife and carefully enters the orchid. He begins to explain to Ben, who is hiding away, that if Ben kills him, the entire freighter will be destroyed and many innocent people killed. While he's speaking, the orchid orientation Video is running properly and is visible in the background on the monitor on which Locke had been viewing it earlier. Kimi begins to mock Alex's death, but suddenly Locke appears. Loc explains that he has no conflict with Kimi and that Kimi should allow the innocent people on the freighter to live. Ben, noticing Kimi is distracted, charges out with his collapsible baton and attacks, knocking the knife from Kimi's hand. Kimi tries to bend down to grab his knife. Doesn't he know that every time he fucking bends down to grab something he gets knocked out?

Causing him to stand back up. Ben then whacks Kimi in the face, knocking him down. Once Kimi is knocked down, Ben grabs Kimi's knife and stabs him twice. Locke pulls him off in an attempt to save Kimi and those on the freighter, but the damage is done and Kimi is left dying. Locke tells Ben that he just killed everyone on the freighter, to which Ben coldly responds, so Kimi tells Ben that Widmore will find him, and Ben replies not if I find him first. Despite Locke's best effort to save him, Kimi dies. Back on the freighter, when Kimi dies, the bomb is armed, but it does not explode immediately because of Michael's ingenuity in keeping the battery cool with the nitrogen. With the bomb armed, Michael tells Jin and Desmond to leave, but Jin stays behind to attempt to determine a way to disarm the bomb. As the helicopter arrives at the freighter, Desmond is frantically waving at them and warning them of the bomb about to go off. Frank lands anyway and hurriedly starts filling the tank and patching the leak. Michael realizes there isn't much liquid nitrogen left and tells Jin that he should leave the boat because he will soon be a father. Everyone gets back on board the helicopter, including Sun and Desmond. Well not everyone, huh? Sun begs her fellow passengers to wait for Jin. Jin tries to run to safety, but he misses the helicopter as Frank takes off immediately after refueling. Sun becomes frantic as Jin yells for rescue from the freighter deck. Back in the freighter, Michael runs out of nitrogen and begins to hear his whispers. After the whispers stop, Christian Shepherd appears in the room containing the explosives, telling Michael, You can go now. The Kahana explodes, killing Michael and presumably everyone else on the on board. From the helicopter, Sun cries out in desperation over the loss of her husband.

Back on the island again. We're on the beach where Juliet is sitting alone with a bottle of rum. Sawyer arrives on the beach after having leaped from the helicopter. Seeing the bottle, he asks what Juliet is celebrating. And Juliet tells him that she's not celebrate celebrating and points to the smoke emanating from the destroyed freighter. He's like, Is that our boat? She's like, it was. In the orchid, after killing Kimi, Ben operates the vault console and the metal inside creates an explosion. It opens a hole in the rear where Ben seeks to go. Loc stops him and demands to know why Ben killed Kimi, knowing it would end the lives of many innocent people on the freighter. Ben admits it was the wrong thing to do, and that his grief over Alex clouded his judgment. Ben tells Locke not to make the same mistakes as the new leader. Locke is subsequently confused, and Ben tells him that there is a price to pay to move the island. The person that moves it must leave and never return. Loc is reluctant to let Ben leave, but Ben offers a handshake, apologizing for all the misery he's inflicted on Locke. Loc accepts the handshake, and Ben, wearing a dark shirt shirt that he was seen wearing when he appeared in the desert and Haliwax's parka, darts off into the vault. So now we've connected that scene.

Meanwhile, Locke leaves the orchid and heads to Richard and the others, following Ben's instructions. At his arrival, all of the others look surprised, and Richard tells him, Welcome home. Inside, the explosion has created a jagged opening into a long low passageway in the rock behind the vault. Ben clears the opening, then enters the passage until he reaches the ladder, which he descends. At the bottom of the ladder, Ben breaks a layer of ice, revealing another old and damaged wooden ladder. While descending further, a rung breaks and he falls down, cutting his right arm and ripping his jacket on the ladder. So now we see like these are really connected because not only is the same clothes but same wound. Ben finds himself inside a dark and icy room where stones are covered in hieroglyphs. There, across from Ben is a wall with a large wheel. After looking up and declaring, I hope you're happy now, Jacob, Ben proceeds to turn the wheel, though with great physical and emotional difficulty. The more the wheel is turned, the brighter the room becomes. Outside, the entire island emanates in otherworldly noise and the sky turns purple. Suddenly a light envelops the island and everything within the light disappears. I think you owe yourself a smack. You look confused.

While the helicopter is leading back to the island, a bright light floods the sky and the island vanishes. Low on fuel and with nowhere to land, Frank tells them to put on life jackets and prepare for impact. Jack tells Frank to fly to another island, but Frank responds that there is no other island. Say throws the life raft into the water moments before impact. After the crash, the survivor swims towards the inflated raft. Frank rescues Desmond, who's floating face down in the water. He's not breathing, but Jack resuscitates him. Basically, we don't see anything else after this about the island. We have this is how it's left. We don't know what happened to the island, the people, nothing. After the island is moved, Jack, Kate, Aaron, Said, Hurley's son, and Frank and Desmond continue to float on the life raft. Everyone is quiet until Hurley observes that Locke moved the island. Jack becomes agitated and disagrees, to which Hurley challenges him to put forth a more plausible explanation, after which they're again sitting in silence. Soon after, Frank notices a nearby light and realizes it's a ship. Everyone begins shouting and a ship begins pulling up beside the life raft. At this point, Jack suddenly remembers Locke telling him to lie about what has happened to them, realizes that it must be done, and hastily shares this plan with the others in the life raft. On board the searcher, a crewman who is actually Henrik from the listening station frantically moves back and forth and calls out for Miss Whidmore. Penelope exits the bridge to see what's happening. Desmond hears Penny's voice as she directs the search the searcher crewmen to help the people aboard the raft. He calls up to her, Penny! Penny and jumps onto some netting to pull himself up to the ship and rushes to meet Penelope on deck. Reunited, Desmond quickly introduces Penny to the others from the life raft, and Jack, in Jack fashion, Jacks. He tells her, seriously, we need to talk. Not thank you. No. We need to talk.

She condemns him for condemns she condemns him for wanting to go back to the island, for calling her for two days straight while high on pills, and for showing her the obituary for Jeremy Bentham. She explains that Jeremy Bentham had met with her and that she knew from the first moment that he was crazy, and that she can't believe that Jack would trust him. Jack says he listened to Bentham because he was told that it was the only way to save Kate and Aaron. Kate slaps him for abandoning Aaron and tells him not to even say his name again. Jack tries to apologize, but Kate tells him she spent the last three years trying to forget all the horrible things that happened on the day that they left. She says she won't go back. She gets back in her car and she speeds away.

Hurley whispers that they're lying to protect the people who remained on the island. Like my dad, asks Walt. Like your dad, yeah, replies a visible nervous Hurley. Said arrives at Hurley's mental institution late at night and executes a man in the parking lot. Said finds Hurley playing chess, apparently alone, opposite an empty chair. Said wants Hurley to come with him somewhere safe, but Hurley replies that he has not seen Saeed in like forever and doesn't understand why he should join him. Saeed replies that circumstances have changed. Bentham is dead, having supposedly killed himself two days ago. Hurley does not want to call Bentham by the alias and is about to call him by his real name when Saeed stops him, adding that they are being monitored. Hurley says that he has been having regular conversations with dead people, and the last thing he needs is paranoia. Said replies that he has just killed a man who had been watching Hurley for a week and that paranoia keeps him alive. Said assures Hurley that they are not going back to the island, merely somewhere safe. Hurley accepts, but just as he is about to leave the room, he makes one more move on the chessboard and says, Checkmate, Mr. Echo. Was all the Jeremy Bentham shit like annoying to you?

Charles Whidmore emerges from a restaurant. Sun approaches him and presents herself as the daughter of Mr. Peck and the managing director of Peck Industries. Whidmore recognizes the name and inquires about her father. Sun confronts Whidmore with the knowledge that he is aware of her true identity, adding that Whidmore knows that the Oceanic Six have been lying about their experiences. She then suggests that she and Whidmore have common interests. She gives him her pick business card, suggest suggesting he call her when ready to talk. Finally, she reminds Whidmore that the Oceanic Six are not the only ones who left the island.

She hears footsteps again and retrieves a gun from her closet. Checking on Aaron, she confronts the intruder bent over his bed, only to find that it's Claire who's holding Aaron's hand. She warns Kate not to bring him back to the island.

Next we moved on to the Hoff's drawler funeral parlor. And um this is Jack's story. Jack, still apparently drunk and high, drives to the funeral parlor after hours. He breaks in and approaches the casket, noticing that no one has yet signed the release form for Bentham's body. Ben suddenly enters the room, and Jack says that Bentham had told him Ben was off the island. Jack and Kate haven't spoken to Bentham about a month prior. Bentham had said that after Jack left the island, some very bad things happened and it was Jack's fault for leaving. Bentham added that Jack had to come back, and Ben replied that he has heard about Jack riding passenger planes hoping they'll crash. Ben describes this as very dark. When Ben tells you that something is very dark, you know it's fucked.

Ben tells Jack that he's there to let him know that the island won't let him come alone. All of you have to go back. All of them have to do it together, and that Ben has a few ideas about how it could be done. And he's willing to help. However, he specifies that all of them must return, including the deceased Bentham, who then is revealed to be John Locke. And that's the end. That's the end of the episode, that's the end of the season. How did you feel when it panned over?
