Hi, and welcome to today's episode of Assassin's Sips. Today we are going to talk about Lost Season Six, Episode 16. What they sign for.
SPEAKER_02Two more episodes or one more episode.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02One, two, yeah. Wow.
SPEAKER_03I'm Lisa, and I am sipping on our sassy sips drink. Our sassy sip. Oh, okay, because we did coming back. Yes, because we got that's what we got uh text for.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Our sassy sip drink.
SPEAKER_03But my mine is just tequila and regular lemonade. That's all that's in mine.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so I might be a little short.
SPEAKER_03I'm not as sassy as I wanted to be.
SPEAKER_02Well, I went all the way sassy without drink because I've been either recovering from surgery or I got sick. I have not been drinking like I should be. I'm so disappointed in myself. So I went full balls to the walls and I have the my pink lemonade, my raspberry lemonade. That's what it was. It was raspberry lemonade and I got my tequila and I got my frozen um mango pieces in it. Because it's like 23 degrees outside. So I'm gonna pretend with my little summary drink that it's like 90 degrees.
SPEAKER_03So well, hope hopefully in a few weeks that southern state will be as warm this this coming convention as it was last time, and we can lay in the sun for a little bit. It's gonna be all these.
SPEAKER_02And then because I was sick and didn't eat for three weeks, my bikini's gonna look even better. Hey! Yay! Thank you.
SPEAKER_03I'm excited. Yes, Lisa.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so Lisa's gonna be. I don't know. I don't know if you're gonna hate me for this hot take or love me or both. I think it's gonna be both.
SPEAKER_03Oh. This will be good.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02Okay, you ready? It's not so much of a hot take per se on the episode, but after the episode finished, I wanted to like watch the next one.
SPEAKER_01I wanted to finish it. Like I was excited. I'm like, okay, I gotta watch the next one. I wanna watch it. I wanna watch it.
SPEAKER_03I was like, ah, I can't. I love that for you.
SPEAKER_01But it took like it took um it took six seasons. It took a hundred and one episode from the finish.
SPEAKER_03It took it took us all the way to it took all of this to get to the all of you out there who are 118 episodes into a show you don't like, don't worry, the next one's got you. The next one's gonna get you. Or if or if you just started a show and you're only on episode two and you're like, oh my god, this show sucks. I hate it. Don't fret. Because hey, you too may be loving this and enjoying it in a hundred more episodes.
SPEAKER_02So it's the worst tagline ever. Hate me that it took so long.
SPEAKER_01Like a love fact that it finally happened. I don't know, but maybe both. And then I'm not gonna like you.
SPEAKER_02It was definitely a love.
SPEAKER_03If you don't like it now, don't worry. Either you might hate it more, or just stick with it for a few dozen episodes, and then you might like it.
SPEAKER_02Or tolerate it.
SPEAKER_03You'll just have to suck it up cupcake.
SPEAKER_02And then the episode before the series finale, you're like, okay, I like it now. Um, see, do that any of the hot takes about the episode. Um, so yeah, so the little boy that Hugo was seeing, and oh Jack, not Jack, um Lock 2.0 or Man in Black Lock was seeing was Jacob as a 13-year-old. And I should have got that last week episode. I just think it didn't click until this week. I'm like, oh yeah, duh. Um, so that's that. And I still okay. What I want to know is how are these people protecting the light? Like, what do you do to protect the light? I know it doesn't make a difference, but I want to know what you know what I mean. Like, yes, you told me I have to protect the light, protect the cave, whatever. How do I the fuck do I do that? Do I just like do I kill random people? Like, what how what do I think? Do you need to protect the light?
SPEAKER_03Well, she just said basically you have to protect it from man. And so I guess that means that how?
SPEAKER_02It depends on what the situation calls for. You suppose today, do you like do you just inherently know how to protect it once you drink the drink protect with incantation it's secret?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but no, okay. But I think that protecting the island simply means keeping everyone except them from from getting access to it. So let's not. But actually, so if that's the case, then okay. I think I no, I think I answered my question, but okay.
SPEAKER_02It's just like like protect the island. Like, okay, so don't let anyone crash in it. Don't let anyone crash on the island, then, okay? Protect the island, hide the island. There you go, it's protected. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03I feel like yes, but no, because well, I guess with the exception of like Charles Widmore's freighter, he brought people to the island. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then Dharma brought people to the island. Yeah, okay, okay, okay. So I just kind of have to like keep the smart, like the like if they just want to stay in the island and do what they gotta do, fine. But once they start getting like nosy, you gotta like, you know.
SPEAKER_03So keep them away at all clocks.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03From but I just I think I worked it out in my head. Because I don't think I ever thought about it from this angle. Then if the whole thing is about protecting the light so that people can't access it because they always want more. How does that mean that Jacob failed because the Dharma people went underneath it and finally did or somebody anyway, if not the Dharma people, maybe other of like the man in black's people.
SPEAKER_02But he didn't fail because he he like he failed because okay, they they did what like they like they start doing their like their digging and stuff, but then he started to that's when he saw I think he unearthed the stone, and you can see the light. Right, but that's that's when he went to all to everyone in their lives to bring him to the island so they can do like they and he brought the plane to the island to he set okay. Remember when he touched everybody? He set off the chain of events that eventually allowed them to avoid the event.
SPEAKER_03But that's that's not what I was gonna say.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. So did he Okay.
SPEAKER_03I was gonna say He fixed it, I think So Yes, but we saw that the cavern, you know, like the well or whatever underground with the donkey wheel, we saw that it exists.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_03So then my question is did Jacob fail by allowing that to be built if he's supposed to protect the light and the island?
SPEAKER_02Well, that was built already, remember?
SPEAKER_03It wasn't finished. Like before he took It wasn't finished.
SPEAKER_02Oh, it wasn't finished.
SPEAKER_03Remember, she knocked him out, set the village before it got finished and and filled in the well, which also Right before like the wheel was there, but it wasn't like attached.
SPEAKER_02Like it was like it was built, and it just wasn't like oh that's right.
SPEAKER_03They had half of the wheel and only a small piece of the bricks loose. So somebody finished Okay, so am I okay, and somebody finished let's say where they dug and so the work was a low.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so I think so, so the work got done. So all that he he's not maybe he didn't know it was happening until it already happened, like it already been. But he you know what I mean, he's like because the underground, unless he's like actually following them underground, he's like, wait, what the fuck is going on?
SPEAKER_03But I think he would have keeping the guy has an age and he just happens to know who people are, what but he's they're up to. I don't think knowing what's going on underground is the part.
SPEAKER_02But he's still okay, but I think okay, but part of him, he still remember the beginning of him and his brother's conversation, like was it season five, season four, whatever. And he was like, No, they're still good in man. I think he kind of wanted to see you know what I mean. I think he still had hope that man was still good. So I think he wanted to see, like, let's see how far they're going to go without being greedy. I think like he still had hope that man would not be greedy. Um he's like, okay, I guess I was wrong.
SPEAKER_03It makes sense though. That that actually does make a lot of sense.
SPEAKER_02I guess he's like, he's like, shit, I guess I was wrong. Now I gotta fix it. And that's when he put into the chain of events to stop the hatch from being rebuilt. Can you imagine if I actually like the show? Imagine. My my perception. Can you imagine? Oh, I gotta say though, Lisa, after we finish watching um this, I'm excited for our mini ser um mini-series season that's coming up next.
SPEAKER_03Okay, hold those details for now to see.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's being that's oh, I'm gonna hold it, but I'm excited for it.
SPEAKER_00I'm a little tease. I'm a TBT's.
SPEAKER_03On the island at the beach and in the jungle. On the beach, Jack prepares to stitch Kate's shoulder wound. She's pale and emotional, and as he stitches, she reflects on Ji Yun, remarking that Jin had never even met his own daughter. Her and Jack concede that Locke must be killed. Sawyer and Hurley watch as the sea washes up Flotsum from the destroyed sub. Kate leans on Sawyer's shoulder, and they are all very sad. Then Jack comes along to say, Hey, let's go find Desmond in a well. He says if Locke wanted him destroyed, they're gonna need him. As they hike, Sawyer wonders why Locke didn't just kill Desmond, and Jack says maybe it was one of his rules. Sawyer blames himself for the deaths on the sub because he attempted to defuse the bomb against Jack's advice. And Jack is like, no, buddy, it's not you. It was him, meaning fake Locke.
SPEAKER_02In question, they know it's not Locke, right? Like they know Locke is actually dead, right? No, they saw his body? Okay, I just couldn't remember. It was like and same season, but I feel like it was like 600 episodes ago.
SPEAKER_03Well, I don't think they saw his well D did it some of them see his body? I don't think so. But remember when I couldn't remember who was there. Like I remember like It was the 2.0s, Ben and Richard.
SPEAKER_02Ben okay, so none of the none of the lost the original losses were there at that time. I couldn't remember who was there.
SPEAKER_03Or the no.
SPEAKER_02Did his son did did his son and Frank see like weren't they part of the lossy too?
SPEAKER_03They buried.
SPEAKER_02They buried him. So some of them did, but the ones that are there now didn't.
SPEAKER_03Or actually, no, wait a minute. Maybe they weren't there. I think because Ben gave the eulogy.
SPEAKER_02So I don't know. But weren't they part of the group when they like opened the coffin and Locke's body rolled out? I feel like Sun and Frank were there at least.
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Anywho, but they but the I mean but they before now know that lost lock is not locked. They know lock is not locked.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay. All right, I'm sorry. Because that was one of my questions I had when I was watching it, because I couldn't remember. And obviously Frank is dead. Why? Well, he hasn't popped up. Oh. You know what I mean? Like, I feel like like he got hit with a hatched door and then drowned, I think. I think he in the explosion. I like Frank.
SPEAKER_03Behind them, Hurley notices a young Jacob standing by a hut. He wants the ashes that Alana gathered. Hurley wants to know what he wants them for, but the boy snatches them and runs off. Hurley chases him and then lo and behold comes across adult Jacob seated by a fire. Jacob tells Hurley that the ashes are in the fire and that when the flit fire goes out, he will not be seen again. And then saying, We are very close to the end. As night falls, Hurley leads Kate, Sawyer, and Jack to Jacob's fire. He greets them by their first names. Hurley is surprised that they can all see Jacob. Kate asks whether he is the one who wrote the names on the wall and whether it is their candidacy that ultimately ultimately led to their deaths. She also demands to know that Jinn, Sun, and Saeed didn't die for nothing. Jacob says he will tell the group what they died for and why he chose them. He adds that by the time the fire is out, one of them will have to take his place as the protector of the island. Jacob explains that a very long time ago he made a mistake, and as a result, there is a good chance that everyone is going to die. He acknowledges that he is responsible for the current state of the man in black. The monster has been trying to kill him, and that when it succeeded, someone would have to replace him. That is why he brought them all to the island. Sawyer's like, My life was perfectly fine. Jacob's like, no, it wasn't. Jacob explains that he didn't drag anyone out of a happy existence, that they were all flawed. He says he chose them because they were all like him, all alone, looking for something they couldn't find. This is like that scene. It was kind of like Lost Survivor Edition, right? Like this the whatever ceremony that they have at the end of the day. Yes, yes, yes.
SPEAKER_02Somebody's gonna have to extinguish their flame, but in this case it's like yes, because then and they're walking with their torch. I was just I I got that vibe.
SPEAKER_03He chose them because they needed the island as much as the island needed them. He tells Kate her name was crossed off because she became a mother, but that she's not disqualified. He's like, um, it's a chalk line in a cave, Kate. You want the job, it's yours. Right. He says the task is to protect the light at the center of the island. Jacob says that they must do what he couldn't do. Kill him. Jack asks whether that's possible, and Jacob says, I sure hope so because he's gonna try to kill you. Jacob offers the remaining candidates something he never had, a choice. Who will take his place? But I'm sure this was a total shock to you, right? Jack volunteered.
SPEAKER_02Listen, when um um Sawyer was like, I thought he had a God complex before. That was the funniest shit because I legit thought the same shit. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03Oh well, Jack is accepts acknowledging that he is on the island for this very purpose. Jacob's like, you shall bro, and Jack is like, yeah, I'm sure. So Jacob is happy. So Jacob takes Jack to the creek, and the others are like watching from like across the the river. Like they're just they're just watching from like a little further away. Jacob tells Jack where to find the light at the heart of the island, explaining that while Jack has never seen the light before, he will be able to f find it now since he has chosen to protect it. Jacob fills Jack's cup with water, recites an incantation, and solemnly offers the cup to Jack. Before he drinks, Jack asks about the duration of the job, and Jacob's like, eh, as long as you can. Jack drinks, Jacob embraces him and says, Now you are like me.
SPEAKER_02So obviously, you just don't need wine and incantation of any beverage will help. I prefer the wine. Right.
SPEAKER_03If you want to sign my life away, I want a better drink.
SPEAKER_02Right, as opposed to spring water. I mean, don't get me wrong, spring water is refreshing, but you know, I need to be a little woo-hoo to prepare myself this kind of responsibility.
SPEAKER_03At the barracks, Miles, Ben, and Richard approach by a shortcut that Ben told them about. Richard's like, Do you have enough explosives? And Ben is like, um, I can destroy that plane ten times over. They go into Ben's secret room behind his bookcase. And Miles, actually on their way there, Miles is like getting all freaked out because you know like something is dead nearby. And Ben's like, but what's wrong? Miles won't reveal what it is. He's like, oh, you know, I get wonky around dead people. But Richard says, um, I buried Alex there. And Ben thanks him. Inside, he Ben opens a safe and he says he learned to he could summon the monster from his secret room, but says that he now realizes the monster was actually summoning him. Richard tells Ben that they want to blow the plane to hell, so they take all the packs of C4. They hear a noise and find Zoe in the kitchen. Then Widmore enters and sends Zoe to the dock to retrieve their stores and sink the Outrigger. Ben holds Widmore at gunpoint and tries to prevent her from leaving, but Widmore says he ain't gonna do it. Go ahead. Noticing the C4, Ben uh Widmore tells Ben that he's had the plane rigged with explosives since it arrives and is, as usual, three steps ahead of Ben. When Ben asks him how he got to the island, Widmore explains that Jacob came to see him after Ben destroyed the freighter. Ben says that Widmore is lying, but Widmore says Jacob showed him the error of his ways and persuaded him to return. And that he told him all he needed to know for this exact purpose. But before he can explain purpose, but before he can explain purpose, Zoe radios that Loc has arrived. Widmore orders her to return immediately and urges everyone to hide. Stepping off the outrigger, Locke sees Widmore's outrigger packed with metal cases and walks on. Miles decides to escape via the jungle rather than hiding, and Ben says he will not run or hide because he will find him sooner or later anyway. He takes Winmore's walkie-talkies, keeping one and giving the other to Miles so they can still communicate. Richard puts down his rifle and says he is going to talk to him. He says he is. Just wants Richard to join him and talking to him will give him a chance. Oh, sorry, we'll give them a chance. Richard goes outside, the smoke monster rushes at him and uh just swooped him right up.
SPEAKER_02Is he dead? Like, does the smoke monster ever just knock someone out and not kill him? Or is he as he or is Richard dead?
SPEAKER_03All we've seen so far is dead, really.
SPEAKER_02Damn, I was hoping that Okay. Very sad about Richard leaving.
SPEAKER_03Ben, who is like right next to him, turns around, he's scared, and then he goes to sit in a porch chair. Locke joins him, saying he is just the man he was looking for. He takes out his knife and sits down. Loc says he needs Ben to kill some people for him, and that in return he can have the whole island to himself.
SPEAKER_02Like, what is Ben gonna do with the island when no one like everyone like by yourself? Like at this like what's the purpose of having the island to yourself? There's no who are you leading that was dead. Like, what's the point? But anyway.
SPEAKER_03Ben agrees. And then Locke. Yeah. And then Locke asks about the other outrigger, and Ben tells him that it's Widmore's and that Widmore is hiding inside. They go inside, and Ben is like, they're in there. So the smoke monster is like, you might want to wait outside. And Ben's like, uh-uh, I want to watch.
SPEAKER_02Back to the Ben that we hated. You know what I mean? I feel like for a minute, we like he went from, okay, you're interesting. I like to watch you too. Oh, you little, you need to get your ass beat.
SPEAKER_03Ben is all about Ben.
SPEAKER_02I mean, he's always all he's always been about him. But there was a period where you're like, I can appreciate it. Yeah, at least the character. Now you're like, ew.
SPEAKER_03He turns on the light in the hidden room. Ben says, Sorry, Charles. Locke asks who Zoe is, and as she starts to reply, Widmore's like, shh, don't talk to him. So Widmore slashes, uh, sorry. So Locke slashes her throat. He's like, uh, if she's not gonna talk to me, I don't need her. Locke tells Widmore that I am gonna want you to tell me what you know, and if you don't, the first thing I'm gonna do when I get off the island is to kill your daughter. Bye-bye, Pene. Bye-bye, Pene. Well, you know, I won't kill her if you just tell me what I want to know. Widmore says he brought Desmond back because of his unique resistance to electromagnetism and that he was a measure of last resort. Widmore tells the man in black he won't say anything more in front of Ben. So Locke is like, Alright, whisper in my ear, baby. As he whispers, then shoots Whidmore dead with the pistol. He says he doesn't get to save his daughter. Come on, that was good though.
SPEAKER_02It was, but then, okay, logically. Okay, let's say he didn't get a chance to tell him, you know, Locke didn't get what he needed from him. He killing his daughter, he I don't think he would bother killing his daughter since he's a dead anyway, will be the point. There's no punishment. So killing Widmore doesn't necessarily kill Penny. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but do you I mean, do you think when you were gonna shoot somebody in that sin, you're dealing with a monster? I don't think rationality is the takeaway here.
SPEAKER_02I just like like his point was well, you don't get to tell how I don't want you to.
SPEAKER_03Do you think he thought that through?
SPEAKER_02I did. I took a half a second. I did. I'm sorry. That's why men shouldn't be allowed to make decisions. I I thought about that instantaneously. Why couldn't you? Why couldn't he do that? Because he's a man and men don't think.
SPEAKER_03Locke says that Ben never ceases to amaze him. But whoops, Whidmore already told me everything I needed to know. Ben then asks whether there are some other people to kill. On their way to the well, Ben asks why he bothers walking if he can be the smoke at any time. Locke says he likes to feel his feet on the ground as it reminds him of when he was human. When they get to the well, they see it's empty. Locke is like, Well, obviously Said didn't kill Desmond. Ben notices there's a rope hanging, and he says, uh, it looks like somebody helped Desmond. Locke Locke says, actually somebody helped me. Ben asks Ben wants to know what Whidmore said to Locke, and Locke tells him that he said Desmond was a fail-safe, that if he killed the beloved candidates, he was one final way for Jacob to be sure that he would never leave this place. Ben asks why Locke is happy then if Desmond is free and alive, and Locke says that when he finds Desmond, he will get him to do the one thing he could never do himself destroy the island. How do you think he's gonna do that? Like, what's his plan? If Desmond is a failed.
SPEAKER_02Well, well, I think they're gonna use the electromagnetic whatever to like blow up the island. But since Desmond can like Desm, I think Desmond can still do it because like whatever, spin the wheel or whatever the case, whatever they're gonna use with the island's magic, Desmond can physically do it without being harmed. Like if anyone else tries it, they're gonna be killed. Desmond can actually do it. I mean, he'll probably die in the process, but he can actually do it. That's what I'm thinking. So his plan was to have Desmond do it and jump in the submarine and just go, you know what I mean? I think that's what his plan was. What was the plan as a last resort?
SPEAKER_03Let's go to the flash sideways. Jack sideways.
SPEAKER_02I'm excited because I th like watching Desmond's process, I'm excited for the outcome.
SPEAKER_03I'm like Jack wakes up in his apartment, he looks in the mirror, and he finds a little injury on the left side of his neck. That is the same injury from when he was on the plane. He cleans it and then David comes in to tell him that he made breakfast.
SPEAKER_02That was cute. Yeah, so I have a question. Um why never mind, I already answered my question. And like from the injury from the plane.
SPEAKER_00Why does it keep bleeding?
SPEAKER_02That is a good question. No, but it happened before he even started shit. Like they did it reopen up while he was sleeping. I feel like I kind of feel like in my head, I was like, okay, so the whole incident with the submarine, maybe like I I I don't I just okay, I'm thinking at the moment I was like, he was paralleling his injuries. Like whatever he got hurt getting off the submarine, it was paralleling to this the flop, like what the fuck is wrong? Like, you know, never mind. I'm I'm going to go to sleep now. Not enough alcohol. Okay, thank you.
SPEAKER_03David checks that Jack is coming to his concert that evening and tells Jack, uh, and my mom will be there too.
SPEAKER_02Don't be weird.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. He's like, so don't get weird. And then Claire joins.
SPEAKER_02And that was kind of weird, because everyone's like, oh hi, my auntie.
SPEAKER_03Good morning. Jack gets a call telling him that the airline has found his missing cargo. Jack assumes that it's his father's coffin, and then we see Desmond in a car speaking on the phone, like, yeah, yeah, here's here's where you go. John Locke returns to the school, recovered, and a student welcomes him, and we see Desmond watching from his parked car again. As Locke wheels across the parking lot, Desmond starts his car, but Ben jumps in front of the car and is like call the police. Desmond gets out of the car and punches Ben in the face. Ben is being held down, but he says he won't let Desmond hurt Locke again. And Locke and Desmond turns around and is like, I'm not there to hurt him, but to help him let go. Ben's like, Who are you? And Desmond replies, Do you want to know who I am? And then beats the fuck out of him. So even in the sideways flash, some things don't change for Ben.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_03But while he while he's getting the shit kicked out of him, Ben has a flash of Desmond beating him while they were at the marina in LA. So once Ben is laying on the brown the ground confused and beaten, Desmond Desmond's like, I'm done here. He leaves. Ben says he was in a fight with the man who ran him down. He says the strangest thing happened while he was being beaten, that he saw something. Locke starts to call the police, but Ben says no. He tells Locke about he tells Locke that the man was trying to get Locke to let go, not to hurt him, and that for some reason he believed him. Just as the LAPD officer hangs up on Locke, Desmond arrives and asks to see a detective. Meanwhile, Detective Strom is reminding Detective Ford about the benefit concert set for that evening at his dad's museum. He asks Ford to go as his date, but when he discovers that the redhead he went on a blind date with will be there, he passes. Desmond is brought to Ford and Strom and turns himself in for running lock over and beating up Linus. Desmond is taken to a holding cell and he smiles as he joins Said and Kate. Alex runs up to help Dr. Linus, who is now in a sling. He can't get and he can't get his car keys out. She wonders why anyone would want to hurt the nicest guy ever. She insists that she and her mother can give him a lift home. So she takes him to the car to meet her mom and Danielle Russo gets out. They insist on having him over for dinner even if they have to kidnap him. Danielle is pleased to cook for someone other than just her and Alex. She says that Alex's father died when Alex was two, and that Ben is the closest thing to a father Alex has ever had. Ben is so touched by this comment, he blames the onions for his tears. So Danielle is like, don't worry, next time I won't use so many onions.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, sweet. I mean since everything happens in reverse in sideways, yes. I can see how that can happen.
SPEAKER_03Next we see Locke stopped by Jack's office and he remarks about a photo of Jack, David, and Christian, which says, Oh, that was last year's Thanksgiving. So Locke starts listing off coincidences. We were on the same flight from Sydney. When he was hit by a car, he got you out of all the doctors. Then the same man who ran him down beat up another teacher at his school today and said he wasn't there to hurt me, but to help me let go. And those were the same words that you had used when we were last together. Jack is like, wait, you think I did this?
SPEAKER_02Right.
unknownNormal.
SPEAKER_02Everything's about you, Jack.
SPEAKER_03I know, but that's that's a pretty normal.
SPEAKER_02No, no, no, I'm just joking. Yeah, because that's what I would have thought too. Like, wait.
SPEAKER_03He's like, no, I just think it's co it's just meant to be. It's Kisbet. Locke says, No, I don't think that, but I think that this is happening for a reason and that you're supposed to fix me. Jack says that he is mistaking coincidence with fate. And Locke says, Well, whatever it's called, I'm ready to get out of this wheelchair. Detective Ford, aka James, aka Sawyer, arrives at the cellie to hand over Said, Desmond, and Kate for transfer. Kate tries using her feminine wows to let him let her go, but he's like, ain't gonna happen. As they're in the van, Desmond smiles. I mean, like, my god, you would think he's a crazy person.
SPEAKER_02Right. First of all, his when he first got locked up, he's like, yeah, that's exactly like, hey, hey, yeah, hey you! And it was like, oh, look at that.
SPEAKER_03And even Said is treating him as such because Desmond says it's time to leave, and Saeed's like, you're like, you're ready to go to the person who turned himself in.
SPEAKER_02He's like, You ready to go? Let's go! Like, wait, what? But this is why I'm so excited. Like, I start getting excited because I know who was driving the truck. Because I was watching, because I paid attention to the opening credits.
SPEAKER_03I'm like, oh he says, fine, I'm crazy, but do you want to leave or not? He says, the driver will stop, but I need you guys to trust me because I'm gonna set you free, but you gotta do one thing for me. You gotta promise. Okay, promise, guys. Pinky promise.
SPEAKER_02And the way they're laughing, they're like, We promise.
SPEAKER_03I know, and then the and then the band stops, and you see their eyes like, oh fuck.
unknownFuck.
SPEAKER_03But who who opens the door? Anna Lucia. I'm sorry, Officer Cortez. She frees them, and then she's like, but Desmond's like, don't worry, the money guy will be here in a minute. And who's the money guy? Hurley. Coming in his. I love it. Hurley goes, hey, Anna Lucia. She's like, Do I know you? He was like, Oh, yeah, no. Do I know you, Tubby? Oh. Yeah. Um Hurley. Hurley gives her the 125,000. And then Hurley asks Desmond, is she coming too? And he's like, No, she's not ready yet.
SPEAKER_01She's not ready yet. I'm like, oh my god, what is she not ready for? But that's why I get excited. I so excited. I can't wait.
SPEAKER_03Hurley's like, look, I brought the Camaro too. Okay? And the keys. And Saeed goes with Hurley while Kate goes with Desmond. He's like, I brought you a cocktail dress and we're going to a concert. Is that Daniel's concert? That's a very good guess.
SPEAKER_02Is it? Oh no, they're going to Jack's concert. Jack's son's concert. Oh. Oh. No, I don't know. They're going to a concert. Probably Jack's son's concert, maybe. But a cocktail dress. Was it a cut? Okay, anyway. Never mind. But he's getting the band back together again.
SPEAKER_01Obviously.
SPEAKER_03Yes. This is the first time Charles Whidmore has visited the main island since he was exiled from it.
SPEAKER_02But he gets killed on it. Go figure. Maybe you should just stay exiled.
SPEAKER_03This is the only episode in the series that begins with the word what and its variations that is not Kate-centric. Meaning there's been plenty of episodes that start with the word what, but they've always been about Kate. Oh. Whatever the Kate may be, what Kate did, whatever happened, happened, and what Kate does. Oh, they're all Kate-centric.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_03The actress who played the school nurse. Mm-hmm. Well, him Kondraki, who is the school nurse, appears for the first time after being mentioned in Dr. Linus. She's played by Wendy Pearson, who previously played a doctor in the variable. In this episode, she treats Ben after he was beaten up by Desmond. And her character in the variable treated Desmond after he was shot by Ben.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so I'm glad you guys brought you brought you guys. I'm glad you brought this up. So when she said Mr. Linus, he said actually it's Dr. Linus. And she seemed put out by that. Why do people, and this happens a lot.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Why do people get put out when you correct them? Like because they don't want to be corrected. You worked so hard to become a doctor like, but only when only when they become correct to become a doctor, especially with women. Especially with women.
SPEAKER_03Right. Well, that's that's when you say they don't want to be corrected. Actually, doctor also misogyny.
SPEAKER_02It pisses me off. People are like, oh well, doctor. Well, yeah, I work my ass off for that shit. Acknowledge.
SPEAKER_03That pisses me off. Because saying they instead of he is why does that bother you?
SPEAKER_00Why does that bother you?
SPEAKER_03Except it's like a correction.
SPEAKER_02You just don't want to do it.
SPEAKER_03You just don't want to be bothered and you don't want to feel like you're wrong if you say the wrong word.
SPEAKER_02It's a correction.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. It's it's a nothing issue.
SPEAKER_02It's just, you know what? And it's rude not acknowledging people in the correct manner. God forbid someone acknowledges you incorrectly. It's all holy hell. Like, oh no. I just it just but I just yeah.
SPEAKER_03And I just find that it's people either that or they're just jealous that they can't live there as their authentic self and somebody else.
SPEAKER_02I think that's mostly what it is. Because I know because I had an argument with someone about, I think it was with I forgot who it was. They're like, why should we call a doctor? So because they have a doctorate. That's why. You know, the fuck. They earned it. That's what their title is. Regardless whether you like it or not, it's a fact. And they said, Well, lawyers have a doctor, has a JD. Do we call we don't call them doctors? I said, but we can if we if but if we if they want us to call them a doctor, then we sh we could. Whether we do or don't, that's a different story. But if that's what they wanted, that's what we do. The fuck? And I find it's always people that don't have a higher education are the ones that are really quick to be such assholes about it. I know let me get off my soapbox. I'm sorry. It's a stupid soapbox because I don't have a doctorate, but it's still. If it's a doctorate in butterfly larvae, then it you call them doctor. I don't give a fuck what their doctorate is in. That's it. I'm going to bed now. Let me put my soapbox away.
SPEAKER_03Henry Ian Kusick accidentally gave Michael Emerson a black eye while filming Desmond and Ben's confrontation at the school. The incident happened early on filming, and the black eye is visible throughout the episode in both timelines. This is the only episode of Lost written by three writers, with the exception of the producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Kuse, the writers Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz, and Elizabeth Sarnoff are the longest serving writers on the show. This is the last episode to end with a cliffhanger. Which I would, you know. I mean, I've seen the end, but you know what I mean? Like you would hope so.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you I mean, this better be the last episode to end with a cliffhanger because I'd be really pissed.
SPEAKER_03What do you make of Desmond and his mission?
SPEAKER_02Um his mission. I feel like it went from zero to a hundred. Like he was like, oh, oh, this is what I'm going to do. Um, it came out of nowhere. I don't know. I'm I think he's definitely getting the band back together. For what purpose? I don't know. How is it gonna end? I don't know. Why does he feel he needs to get the band back together? I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Do you think that Jacob really did? Visit Whidmore and get him to return to the island?
SPEAKER_02I don't see why not. Because obviously, although he's still dead, he's still kind he was still protecting the island and he found a replacement. Even in death, he's still working. Now he knows how every woman feels. Which is so easy.
SPEAKER_03We've heard we've heard the word concert mentioned three times in the episode by different people.
SPEAKER_02So Jack, Jake's Jack's son and his concert. Um Desmond at the end talk about a concert. And who was it right? And who was the third was the third mention?
SPEAKER_03Miles. Remember he invited Sawyer?
SPEAKER_02And Sawyer was like, Oh, right, right, right, right, right, right, right. The side, the side, yes.
SPEAKER_03The right. Oh. It's all in the sideways. There's no concert on the island.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's right. No, but you said Miles. Like I was like in my head, I went to Miles on the Island. I forgot the other. Sorry. That's what I was. Yeah. Um, so is it all the same concert? What do you think? That's what you're gonna ask me. Um, I don't know, maybe it's all the same concert. What are the odds of this? You know what? In my head, they're all the same concert. Wait, did did Daniel's concert already happen? I feel like how many times how many days have passed? We haven't seen it.
SPEAKER_03Well, it was the only thing that we've seen with Daniel is that he wanted drive Shaf to perform because he was a musician.
SPEAKER_02Right, but right, he was he was performing as something he was doing a so are we all we know is that it was going to happen like they were preparing for it. But I feel like oh no, it had to happen. Um I don't know. Anyway, I'm just anyway. Because there's no sense of time, but it had to no, because him had the concert had the Daniel concert had to had happened already because Locke got ran over and had surgery and recovered and back to school. That doesn't happen in a matter of days. So I'm assuming like time, like weeks have passed at least.
SPEAKER_03In the episode par Avion, Mikhail says Kate is not on the others' list because she's flawed, yet Jacob claims this is the exact reason they were on his list.
SPEAKER_02I said all I always thought that the whole they were all fucked. Everyone on that plane was fucked. Like all of them.
SPEAKER_03I mean, then of course is the irony, right? Like Alex says to Ben, you're the nicest guy ever, and the flash sideways, but in the main timeline, she's like, I wish you were dead.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_03And and then you have thanking him.
SPEAKER_02Because that's why I think this the sideways was like everyone got it's like was the plus. Like everyone was better, everyone learned, everyone made mistakes. Like if they made a mistake, they learned from a mistake. That's what I thought it was like. That's why I thought it was like purgatory or heaven or something, the sideways.
SPEAKER_03In this episode, Jacob explains the mission. Do you feel? I mean, you haven't seen the final episode yet, but do you feel like it sits well, like with the theme and the whole whatever?
SPEAKER_02Wait, I lost that. The question I got lost in the question.
SPEAKER_03In this episode, Jacob explains the purpose of the protector of the island and why he brought them all there and the meaning of the island or whatever, like we've learned.
SPEAKER_02Oh. I don't know. Because if that was the case, like why was Jacob and his no-name brother? I feel like like they didn't do anything to be put on that island to become protectors. Like, I feel like Well, they were born there. No, but they were also like the mother was dragged, like, you know what I mean? They were they were born there a matter of hours. Like their mother was put in that position to give birth to them on the island. They like they didn't do anything. I don't know. Right, but oh, maybe that's why he did it. Like, hey, this is your second chance. Oh, no, it does no. I I see yeah, no, nope, nope. In my head, it makes sense now. Your whole second chance. Sideways was a second chance, and then the island themselves was a second chance to for a meaningful life, and they have a choice. No, nope, it goes. I like it. Nope. Yep. I see how it flows together.
SPEAKER_03I mean, I don't like we talked about the whole religious undertone thing, but it's like in this episode, you have Desmond as almost this like Jesus-like figure. You know, like kind of hurting over his flock.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I feel like I'm trying to think. I don't know if it'd be so Jesus-like. I feel like Jesus-like, Jesus would be like a little bit hands off. I think Desmond is more like um, who would I who would I liken him to? I can't think of anything. I can't I can't think of anyone. I'm kind of like, duh. Alright, I can't think of anyone right now. But yeah, same. I'm sure there is a I don't know. Don't mind me. I'm a heathen.
SPEAKER_03The next episode is the end. Part one and part two. I know, we we made it. But before we go into that episode, I mean what are your like I I wanna this is my last chance to ask you about obviously like if I ask you what the island is now, you're gonna give me a different answer, but I'm gonna want that. But but this is the last chance that I have to ask you about what you think before you have all the information.
SPEAKER_02I still well I don't think my opinion of the island has changed since the first time you asked me this season.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02If that makes sense. It's still I don't I I I'm sure it's gonna change to um next week. Um, I just don't right now it's I mm I still think between the island and the side and the flash sideway, one's purgatory, one's heaven, once hell, one's purgatory, one's heaven. You know, I've you just I mean, there's two timelines. You know, between between the island and the flash sideways, one's either purgatory and heaven, or oh, I see what you hell and hell or hell or purgatory, like one it one is one and the other is the other. Like, I don't know. Yeah, they're gonna be one of the opposites, you know, a combination of something. I don't know which is which, but yeah.
SPEAKER_03How would you like to see it end?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Honestly, I don't even know how I would like to see it end. I think I never thought of about it like that, but I do think on some level you're gonna realize that they've been dead since the plane crashed. I think they've all been dead, they've been dead the whole time. I think they've been dead the whole time. The sideways, the forwards, the backwards, the 30 years ago. I would not be surprised if you're like, okay, it's all it's yeah, it's all been a dream. Like Dallas. J Who shot JR? I don't know. Um, but how I want it to end, I don't know. Didn't think about how I want it to end, so I can't have an answer. Maybe ask me. No, can't ask me before. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Is there any way you know I'll do go ahead.
SPEAKER_02I said maybe I'll write it down how I want it to end before I watch the episode. So when you ask me before we start recording, like the beginning, yeah, I'll text you. Yes, I'll text you. What do you want to ask me? I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_03Is there any way you wouldn't want it to end?
SPEAKER_02I just don't want more questions unanswered. Just give me like everything doesn't have to have an answer. Because I I think on some level, when you end a sh a series, I'm okay with some things not being answered and or finalized. Because you can in your head imagine how it's gonna end, you know, like okay, I can see how it happened, you know, in my head. So everything doesn't have to have a final, but I do need some kind of closure. Like, okay, they're not dead, but they're gonna live their lives, or they are dead and they're gonna live their afterlife however I want it to live. I just don't want more questions. I don't, because that would piss me the fuck off. Like, I don't need a black, I don't need a black screen like fade to black with like with the Sopranos. That actually didn't bother me too much, though. But anyway, that much either. It didn't bother me, but I don't need you had six seasons of questions. Give me something at the end. That's it. That's all I asked for.
SPEAKER_03All right, well, next episode is the end. Where are we?
SPEAKER_01I just want to thank everyone for listening and staying with us.
SPEAKER_03I know.
SPEAKER_02All that Dixie's. Oh my god. Thank you guys for listening. I feel touched. I feel loved.
SPEAKER_03I know. I feel I feel like we should do like a double. I feel accepted. Oh no.
SPEAKER_02I know one thing. I'm gonna be I'm gonna dress up and drink my makeup and be pretty and drink copious amounts of alcohol during the recording, like our final episode recording. I think we should. Like New Year's, it'd be like on New Year's Eve, like bang. Okay, we'd dress up and we'd be pretty, and we drink copious amounts of alcohol, you know, like a rap party.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Okay, I'm down. Next episode, the end. We're gonna do both together.
SPEAKER_01Is the end.
SPEAKER_03The end.
SPEAKER_01Yes, TR.
