SPEAKER_00

Hi and welcome to this episode of Sass and Sips. Today we're going to talk about Reunion Season 1, Episode 5, 1990. I'm Lisa and I am sipping on my red wine, my Shiraz, uh, my yellowtail Shiraz. Thank you very much.

SPEAKER_01

Every time you say yellowtail, I kinda wanna wipe whack my tail.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm Agnes, and I'm drinking my coffee in Kalua. Sunday morning beverage. Breakfast of champions. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I could go for breakfast right now. I'm hungry now. I already have my coffee, so now I'm getting hungry, but okay. I have a hot take on this episode. Okay. Let's see. I can't believe I fucking forgot option three, the fake out.

SPEAKER_01

I so mad at us that we missed the obvious.

SPEAKER_00

I knew that they were gonna make us earn that reveal though. I knew it. I knew it. Like, and they did it. So I'm happy that they didn't just drop the ball. I can't believe I missed option three, the fake out.

SPEAKER_01

But you kind of guessed it, but you didn't guess it when you said that they're gonna show, they're gonna do one and the next week do the other one. They kind of did that, but in one episode.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So you were kind of right.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but when I said that, I thought it was like they were both gonna be alive.

SPEAKER_01

I know what you meant, but uh loosely, but you were c you were close.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So when the episode opened, we open on present day, we're at the police station, and Detective M is looking at his his whiteboard, and there's pictures on the board, but the first picture in the upper left-hand corner, I could have sworn was Sam. And so I was like, Cause it was hard to tell if it was Sam or Carla, right? And I couldn't see it that clearly, and then I was like, okay, well, the guy in the wheelchair is Craig. And the one all the way to the right was Carla, but the one in the upper left hand was hard to see. And then the guy comes in, he drops off a video camera because he's like, wasn't in the bag, and the guy's like, uh, a camcorder, uh, a uh video camera because you gotta record now because you're a loose fucking canon. Yeah, and because you're obsessed. So, you know, obviously it was like like foreshadowing and trying to get us trying to get us thinking that okay, well, now future interrogations are gonna be recorded. Awesome. Because then he's like, all right, I gotta go get that last person, and he takes the bag and goes. And then on the table is a picture, and and he's like, Oh, it's it's a picture from of the victim from the crime scene. And then we cut to Jenna laying on the floor, bloodied, except, and then they call cut. It's like, yeah. I knew that was gonna happen.

SPEAKER_01

Like, I didn't think she, I'm like, okay, I'm like, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they weren't gonna give it to us that easy.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, okay, yeah, that's yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So somebody on set is like, the scene was great, but your mom called again. She's got some important news. We go to Bedford, where apparently there's like only one bar restaurant in this town called Bedford Hollow. So, I mean, do they not have a second restaurant where people could meet up? Everyone is always there. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, it does make it a little bit easier for like every show has one restaurant that they one liner that everyone meets up at. Hello, Central Park. In this New York City, and they have 600 coffee shops on one block.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Craig is meeting with some business guy, and he's saying, like, oh, you you know, you've done a pretty good job keeping Brewster Group afloat since your dad was incarcerated, but you're not gonna be able to keep going unless you talk to your dad and find out where he's hiding his assets. And Craig is like, oh no, my dad has always thought I was a loser and I'm not gonna do that. And then he's like, and don't and like, don't tell me what to do with my marriage.

SPEAKER_01

Shade lost. Don't tell me what to do.

SPEAKER_00

Don't tell me what I can't do. So then we find out that Craig and Sam are married.

SPEAKER_01

I was surprised that we got that one wrong.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I like, I'm not But I'm not surprised either. I'm surprised, yeah. I'm like, yeah, I could see him just like go ahead and doing it, but you know, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Carla has a mystery boyfriend, but it's not long before we find out that ew, our suspicions were right. Because after we watched the last episode, I was like, oh, I text you. And then I was like, ooh, Carla's gonna end up. I don't remember exactly where I text you, but I was like, Carla's gonna end up with this fucking guy.

SPEAKER_01

You said, Oh, I just had another thought. What if Carla does get with that guy and she kind of becomes Amy's mom, and then that creates a rift between her and Sam? Oh, see, I'm smart. Well, if she ends up with the guy, because in my head, because if she ends up with him, you know, she ends up with them, and that's how become Horty Toy Carla, obviously she becomes a mother figure to Amy. Right. That's kind of like, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because so we open on them, she's in bed, and Paul slides on into bed with her, and Amy's still asleep, and he's like, How come, how come I don't know if you have friends? And blah, blah, blah. The phone rings, it's a hangup, and he's like, You know, your friends can call here. I hope you don't you don't feel like you have to hide anything from me. And she's like, I'm not hiding anything. Uh yeah, you are.

SPEAKER_01

She is. I knew who was the hang up though.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I I had a pretty good because there's no really no one else it could have been.

SPEAKER_01

Definitely not from Carla's camp.

SPEAKER_00

No, I was like, So it had to be best at best, it might be Sam, and like she didn't want to talk to him, but then I was like, no, it's like she sees them probably every day. So, you know, we go to present day where Carla arrives at Craig's house and they're arguing over her because the detective is gonna go see her, and Craig was supposed to stop it, and Craig is like, we're not on the best terms, and blah, blah, blah. And I was trying to look to see if Carla was wearing a ring.

SPEAKER_01

I did not notice, but I did. You got me doing Locket Watch, though. So I did notice the opening scene when she's in bed. I'm like, oh, she has Locket. She still has it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And then we go to a video camera being set up to record, and it's Sam speaking to the video camera. She's starting to talk about how it was a difficult time for them all, and you know, blah, blah, blah, 1990. But the thing is that when she first started speaking, I couldn't tell if she said will or well. It really sounded like will. So I had this like funny feeling about the video the entire time that she was talking. Because, first of all, every time the scenes pan to her, you just see her talking. You don't ever see like you see another person's hand turning on the camera, but you never see another person. The whole time the scenes are flashing from her to whatever else.

SPEAKER_01

So it's very a live action, like I'm talking to you, like there's no you don't see the other person she's talking to.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm pretty sure that when the first time, and I could be wrong, but I don't remember seeing a present day when we go to her the first time.

SPEAKER_01

You know, I don't remember either.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I didn't I didn't know to mark it, but I don't I don't think because usually we see, you know, Bedford, we see 1990, we see present day. And I don't remember if I saw it.

SPEAKER_01

I don't remember seeing it either, but I think I thought that was just me like just not paying attention or not can't like because a lot of now that I can five episodes in, you can see what looking at the scene, you can see what's going on you know, okay, this is Bedford and this is New York City present. So I stopped looking. Did that make sense? So I just thought I just didn't look. But now that you mention it, you're I could be wrong. I mean, it might have been there because I mean it's not quite present day, but it's like a week ago, so it's still relatively present day as opposed to 1990.

SPEAKER_00

So I think I might go back and check.

SPEAKER_01

They still would everything else is present day other than her. Like you know what I mean? Interesting.

SPEAKER_00

Hmm. Okay. Sam starts to talk about everyone's whereabouts. She said that her and Craig were married. The first six months was great, but the second six months, and then she kind of like, she doesn't say, so you're like, is it bad? Is it better? Is it whatever? Will is at military training. He's he enlisted, he's about to be out. Yeah, took away. Sam and Craig are subletting the loft from Jenna, and that's where they're living. Uh, so as she goes back to 1990, we pick up with her picking up Jenna at the airport because her mom, the the important thing that her mom had to say was that she was dying. And Jenna's like, just drop me off at the hospital. This bitch don't need an audience. We go to Prague, where Aaron is sitting on a bench, reading a book, waiting to go to Brussels, waiting for his train to go to Brussels, and he meets this very beautiful young woman who's reading the same book as him. I mean, what are the fucking odds?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, that what that didn't throw me off because sometimes every, you know, every year or every so often, every period, there's always like the hot book to read.

SPEAKER_00

But the fact, I don't, I'm not very familiar, like I've heard of the book, I'm not very, very familiar, but the book is in English, they're in Czechoslovakia, and there's two people waiting for the same train reading the same book in English. That's the part that was like if they were in Manhattan, if they were in California, if they were in the States, right? Or or England, even like some English speaking country, it may not have felt so like like you guys are really pushing it.

SPEAKER_01

Is it the right is to create a license on this one?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean the fact that even if she just had sat down and said, Oh, I've I've what's the book about? I've read that book, whatever. Like, but the fact that they literally both had it, it's kind of like all right. In New York City, Sam and Carla are at the park with Amy, and Amy calls Carla mommy.

SPEAKER_01

There goes that riff you were talking about, Lisa.

SPEAKER_00

And Carla's like, oh my God, this is the first time she's ever done that. Oh my god, I'm so sorry. And Sam is like, no, well, it's kind of inevitable, I guess. Um then realizes who Carla's mystery man is, and Sam decides that this was a bad idea. Well, it only took you three fucking years, huh? It took us three minutes. You should have called.

SPEAKER_01

Call into the future.

SPEAKER_00

Uh-huh. Sam then tells Craig about Will leaving. So Will did it. Will called the group minus Sam and Craig to telling them that he was enlisted and he was about to get shipped out. So when Sam picked up Jenna from the airport, Jenna mentioned it. And Sam was finding out for the first time. So she tells Craig, and Craig is like, yeah, I don't care. Sam is like, I want to say goodbye, and Craig does not. So at the hospital, we find out that Jenna's mom has pneumonia, and she's like, She called me here for pneumonia. She's 42, she'll be fine. They're like, Yeah, but you know, the AIDS is a bigger problem. And you're like, wait, what now?

SPEAKER_01

Okay. And she's like, Well, what happened? Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And her mother is like, Yeah, I guess, you know, the wrong person at the wrong time. Jenna's dealing with that. Carla is in the park again taking photos of Amy. And while Carla had to reload her film, Amy disappeared. Don't you know every time you put your head down to do something, the kid disappears? A kid disappeared.

SPEAKER_01

And 0.3 seconds.

SPEAKER_00

It's just like they just what is it with kids that they just they know. They know. But she finds her and she's with Megan. And I'm like, I know this bitch was gonna come back.

SPEAKER_01

I'm a little judgy right now. A little judgy.

SPEAKER_00

But but I had already started to think that she was the hang-ups. Yeah. And so when I saw her reappear in in a scene, I was like, I knew it. Like it just made me feel like, okay, okay, she's she's back.

SPEAKER_01

My judgment comes not that she left. I would I'm glad she left. My judgment comes is that she left alone because she didn't take her daughter with her. Because if okay, I'm assuming because maybe it was just him talking shit. But he did mention, you know, her friends and her parents and stuff. So it wasn't a situation she had to run away to a shelter. And if he's abusive towards you, when does he become abusive towards the child? Why wouldn't you take her with you?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And deal with legal me. That's just me. I'm taking my kid, I'll do the legalities later. I'm not leaving my child with the abusive man, and we'll deal with the law later. You know what I'll deal with that when it comes. In the safety of my parents' home. My children's advocate?

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Yes. I'm not taking his side, but maybe that was her original plan, right? Was for her to pack them both up and leave. And when little Miss Snitch went, now maybe. And if he really is this abuser, maybe she she maybe he didn't leave her alone with the kid because he thought, you know, this is all kind of like that coercive control. So maybe he felt like, well, if I never leave her alone with the kid, she can't leave. So her only option was I stay or I leave by myself and then figure out a plan later.

SPEAKER_01

I like it. That's how I took it. Okay. I can I relent to your I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

I don't agree with if that is the situation though. I don't agree with the fact that it took her so long. Because it's been like a year. So you didn't file for custody. You didn't, you know, I we don't know, right? Maybe she went into hiding. Who knows? We really just don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I'm back now. I'm doing the whole devil's advocate on your because I've never been in that position, but I do know, and I don't know how important he is. I don't know. I do know that kind of like what you said before, we don't know like the ins and outs or how difficult it could have been. Maybe she had to get herself situated and positioned to do it because if he is that whatever, you can't just do it. It's funny, it's one of those situations where you just take your kid and run and you deal with everything later, or you have to run but get yourself situated so you can't fight.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

When Carla, she's like berating Megan for leaving, and Megan is like, but you don't understand. Can I can we just talk? And Carla is like, I just don't want to hear it. She's just like, no, but I've been there for Paul and I've been there for Amy, and now Megan is like, oh, you sleeping with him. And Carla's like, well, whatever. She just doesn't want to hear it. Also, we now know that Megan is not in the East River. She is still alive. She's like to know. He didn't chop her up.

SPEAKER_01

I wouldn't have been surprised though if he had.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And because Megan is like, you need to know how dangerous he is. And what does Carla do instead of listening? Because even if this bitch is making up every single thing that she's about to tell her, what would it have cost you to listen to her for 10 minutes if it could potentially help you? But Carla, she's got a better idea. Bonehead shit it is. So when she gets home, she tells Paul about Megan. And Carla, bitch, you're about to learn the hard way. Now, this is like the first rule, right? Get your fucking ducks in a row. You, yeah, you you're living with this man, you love this man, you're taking care of this man's daughter. But this woman is telling you, you in danger, girl. So you in danger, girl.

SPEAKER_01

For her to have her ducks in a row, she would have to actually believe that she needed to. That's one. Right. Two, this is also at this point, were they like 22 at this time? Something like that, yeah. Something like that. 22, her first boyfriend, let's be real. Mm-hmm. So emotionally and relationship-wise, she's still a kid.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And he was very and she he's very easy to manipulate her. So so she's definitely just like not thinking.

SPEAKER_00

And all really, all you had to do was just either make that time to talk to her for those few minutes right then. Because then Megan is like just talk tomorrow, or just agree to meet her tomorrow. Hear her out. Just because you listen to her doesn't mean that you have to do what she says. It doesn't mean that you have to believe her. It just means that you can hear someone else's side of the story and figure out what that means, not just for you, but for the little girl that you're supposed to be taking care of, what that may mean for your future. You get your ducks in a row and you keep your fucking mouth shut.

SPEAKER_01

Anyway. But it gets oh so much worse.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because when she tells him, now he gets super pissed off. He's yelling at her. He knocks a vase off of a table, and now she's like, oh my god, like, you know, it's all of a sudden there's this blow-up, and she's a little bit scared. We go back to Aaron, who's still waiting on this train. It's delayed. So then it's delayed till like the next day. So him and the the woman go to have Pascal. Pascal, yes. They go to have gulash. Even though he meant goulash, she meant sex.

SPEAKER_01

So they I'm forever now going to refer to sex as goulash.

SPEAKER_00

Have you ever had goulash?

SPEAKER_01

Yes. I have not. Is it good? Yes. Okay. I enjoyed it immensely. Oh, I enjoy food, so there's that. Don't ever ask me something's good because when it comes to food, nine out of ten times the answer is gonna be yes. Although if I say no, you know it's really bad, though. So there's that.

SPEAKER_00

She's wearing a ring on a necklace, and he he comments on it and finds out that she's engaged. It is an engagement ring, and that she's not visiting her sister. She's leaving her fiance. That makes him think about Carla, and they're they're talking about his kind of situation. And then in the morning when he wakes up, the chick is gone, and there's a note in the book that says, go get her.

SPEAKER_01

I think that was the best hookup, like for both of them. Like hookups can be great as far as everyone knows their, you know, and that everyone's honest. She was honest, he was honest, and she's like, go get her. And I just that it was a moment that brought tears. To my eye. Like the emo. Not really, but you know what I mean.

SPEAKER_00

Craig is doing some more business in Bedford Hollow, the only place up there. And calls Sam from a phone, from a payphone, to tell her that he'll be home tomorrow because he has some business out of state.

SPEAKER_01

Who knew where he was going? I knew where he was going.

SPEAKER_00

I had a feeling he was before that, he was talking to the advisor guy. And he said, you need to go see your father again.

SPEAKER_01

Right. The second time.

SPEAKER_00

But on the TV in the background, they were showing the troops.

SPEAKER_01

And so I was like, oh, he's going to. I think he cares more about his friendship than he did his father at this point. Obviously.

SPEAKER_00

And even when they show on Sam's side of the call, the TV was on in the background showing the troops. So I'm like, yeah, so he's he's going there.

SPEAKER_01

Do you remember school doing the Desert Storm? That we remember we had take like we had the bomb drills.

SPEAKER_00

Uh vaguely.

SPEAKER_01

And the yellow ribbons.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I remember the yellow ribbons.

SPEAKER_01

Even at graduation. We had we sang the songs to every arm force that you don't recommend.

SPEAKER_00

I didn't graduate with you. You didn't graduate in sixth grade? Oh, I talk about in 90s. Like this in elementary school. Oh, I thought you meant sorry, I thought you were talking about in junior high school.

SPEAKER_01

Desert Storm was junior high school elementary school.

SPEAKER_00

I mean it it continued, but yeah. Well, I'm talking about the beginning.

SPEAKER_01

Like this is talking about 1990. So yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, no.

SPEAKER_01

Just remember that in the graduation we're saying every the song. I still remember the songs every armed force cooking. Oh, I do remember that now. We I remember so way, mom. And then we did all of them. Yeah, we did like the hook to each one. Okay. Random thoughts.

SPEAKER_00

Jenna is at the hospital with her mom, and her mom's like, uh, any questions you want to ask me? Jenna wants to know who her dad is, but the mom doesn't know. She's like, was I wanted? And Jenna's mom's like, yeah. And then she has a coughing fit and it turns into like the worst episode of ER ever. Next, Carla meets Megan in the park, and it's like, oh, now you're interested in what she had to say, right? It only took for him to throw a vase. Now all of a sudden you want to know. But because you want it to be a little stitch, Paul was already at the park and he was watching your ass. Now you're gonna get it. But Megan is like, uh, I was a secretary, and you know, he she talks about him hitting her. Do we know for sure Megan is telling the truth? No. But the fact that she's like, well, he has these violent outbursts, and we just witnessed one, I think Carla's ready to pay attention. And that, my friend, is why you have to do your research before you go tell your boyfriend about his crazy ex-wife. Craig does go visit Will, and Will is like, um, tell Sam the truth about everything. So it's like the first I don't know, good advice this whole episode? Tell the truth. Sam and Jenna are together. Jenna's mom died, and Sam is helping her plan the funeral. Jenna finds a photo album on the table, and it's all filled with pictures of her and her mom and them, you know, just like them together. So Sam gets emotional because she's like, oh shit, she was telling the truth. She did love me. Jenna. Yeah, but Jenna, just because your mom wasn't the mom you wanted her to be, doesn't mean she didn't love you. Maybe she just didn't know how to be a better person. Moms need a little slack sometimes. There's no fucking handbook.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, on on to Jenna's defense. And Jenna's defense, if you've ne if that's the only relationship you've had, and this is how it was. Right. It's from it's kind of how else you're supposed to think that she, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Do I understand why Jenna felt that way? Of course I do. You know, hearing what we've heard from Jenna, yes. But the lady told you she loved you, why would you not believe her? I'm just saying, like, I don't think she didn't believe her.

SPEAKER_01

I just think it hit her when the pictures.

SPEAKER_00

Because right, because then when she was looking at the picture, she's like, oh, she was she wasn't lying or she was telling the truth.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, you've lived 20 something years not feel t not feeling wanted. You're not gonna believe someone instantly.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um back in New York City, it's so crazy, right? Because Sam is it seems like they're at the mom's house. So they're in Bedford because and then Sam here's Sam crying over um Jenna crying over her mom's death, and then all of a sudden Sam is at the loft. They really do have a magic carpet. There maybe there's some like you know, remember that there was like supposed to be like these all these pneumatic tunnels under the city? Maybe they got one for them.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, they cutting the scenes. You don't want to watch them like tr driving back and forth. Do you? I mean, maybe. It depends. I had some pretty good conversations in a car by myself. So maybe.

SPEAKER_00

Back at the loft, Sam. You know, Sam had wanted to talk to Craig. Craig thinks that she's gonna leave him. What Sam actually wants to say is that she's pregnant.

SPEAKER_01

I did not see that coming.

SPEAKER_00

I did not see that coming either. That was that on my bingo card. And he's like, but I thought you couldn't. Well, I guess they were wrong. Aaron walks right in. Um, buddy, you don't even know if they still fucking live there. Because Jenna's not living there, so you don't know anything. And you just walk right into somebody's apartment.

SPEAKER_01

Well, okay, so my I I assumed that it's like the loft. It's like Monica's house. Like everyone go, everyone. And he's been away for a year, but doesn't mean he hasn't been in contact in a year. Also, they didn't say when Jenna left to go to when she started sublitting. So it may be like, hey, two months ago you were home. You know, I don't know. You so I didn't think that was weird.

SPEAKER_00

Because it was like Jenna was living there, Carla was living there, Sam was living there. I think they feel like everyone somebody from the group lived there.

SPEAKER_01

And then no one has told him in a year, no one lives there anymore. So, you know.

SPEAKER_00

It's just funny to me because when he walks in and then they're like, uh, Jenna's subletting because she's in LA and Carla's.

SPEAKER_01

I think that was funny, you know.

SPEAKER_00

So it was like, oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

But to be fair, I think they would have been like, hey, we got no one lives aloft anymore. I think that would have came up sometime in the year, maybe. So he's just like, hey, we're going to Monica's. Because that's what Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So Sam is so excited about the news, and she's, you know, and I don't remember which one of them is like, but can we share it? So they tell Aaron that she's pregnant. And then Sam is like, I gotta go call my parents. What the fuck? What parents? Why are we just finding out in 1990 that you have parents? Where were they at the wedding? Where were they when you were leaving for London, baby? What the fuck is going on?

SPEAKER_01

I feel like they um heard our conversation last week and they decided, okay, we gotta fix it, we gotta go back in time and fix this.

SPEAKER_00

Aaron talks about how much money he made selling cell phones and now he's gonna start an internet company, and Craig is like, what's the internet?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I was like, oh my god, I at that moment had gray hair that just popped out. Like I felt it just go poop.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it was 1990, so it was very early for the internet.

SPEAKER_01

I know, but it's still it's just about the world. If someone tells me, you telling me that 1980 wasn't 20 years ago, I'm gonna call you a liar. And I'm like, oh fuck, it really wasn't.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I mean, at this point, we've been using the internet for longer than we haven't been. Meaning, like us, you know. So we don't like to think of the dark ages, you know, before the internet. It's just so long ago that it's like the internet is just the internet. Like it's a thing. We've all become accustomed to it. It's part of our everyday life. So it's funny to be like the internet, and people are like, what's that?

SPEAKER_01

It's weird. I feel I feel old sometimes.

SPEAKER_00

After Carla's not so clandestine, right? That's how you pronounce it?

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Trip to the park and visit with Megan, she returns to the apartment to find an angry Paul. Hmm.

SPEAKER_01

I am so surprised. I did not see this coming. Oh no.

SPEAKER_00

Fight begins and she runs and locks herself into some room. He was like, you are insubordinate. Whoa. Whoa. This is like worse than when Vaughn was like civil or whatever the fuck he said.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I don't know which which word I'm more angry at, civil or insubordinate, but I'm ready to fight.

SPEAKER_01

Definitely insubordinate. Um at this time, you hear um Samantha's voiceover during her recording. And she's like, 1990 was a year of change, and this happened, and this happened. And she goes to talk about Carla, and she said, This is the beginning of, and I'm like, the beginning, she stays.

SPEAKER_00

She stays. I I got that too. Because she was like, uh, Carla got like isolated or something like that.

SPEAKER_01

And this is the beginning of her isolation. Oh, I don't remember. Yes, it and I was like, oh gosh, she stays. So that kind of pissed me off as a as a woman. Like, no, sweetheart, don't stay. But then I'm like, well, that kind of falls into Unless unless she had to hide. Like maybe she kidnapped the kid and hid. I think she stayed. I think she stayed too. I think so. And that kind of goes into my thought how she becomes the jaded hoity-toidie caller now.

SPEAKER_00

But I got something else for that. Oh. But I'm not gonna tell you yet. Do tell. No. Jenna also says on the video that I mean, sorry, Sam also says on the video that Jenna learned that death can provide comfort.

SPEAKER_01

And that's heartbreaking. Yeah, but that's what I heard that.

SPEAKER_00

No, yes. But that line it got my spidey senses. So first I was like, did did Jenna maybe just like suicide? Because at this point, we're watching Sam. So you're one would rightly guess that Sam is still alive. She's being you know, like that's how the episode wants to paint it. She's alive, Detective M is interviewing her on the camera because he was told, and blah blah blah. And so I was like, oh my god, like I wouldn't have seen that twist coming if Sam shot herself, and um Jenna shot herself, and maybe that's who they were protecting because they didn't want them to find out that it was a suicide. But that's what I was thinking. But then literally one second later, you see that it's a video, and Jenna is the one watching this video. So it's like, okay, well, she's still alive. But I wonder if that comment has a bigger meaning. So maybe Jenna is the one who killed Sam. I don't know why, but I I I just feel like there's something there there's just something more in that line.

SPEAKER_01

Besides the obvious.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So we do find out that Sam is the one who was murdered. And on the video It was a video that she was recording at the reunion and with the intention of giving a copy to all of the friends. And the whoever the guy is who's doing the recording, he says, Thank you, Dr. Brewster. She did become a doctor, and whether they are still married or not, she kept his name. I feel like it's safe to to assume for TV's sake that they were still married. Because she kept because she's they made a point of saying thank you, Dr. Brewster. They didn't say thank you. They didn't say thank you, Doctor. They said thank you, Dr. Brewster. They included her last name.

SPEAKER_01

So I know. I mean, yeah, they I don't know. I still think they could have been either married, separated, or divorced. I wouldn't have been surprised either way. I mean, I I didn't think that deep.

SPEAKER_00

I won't be either. I just think that the fact that they included the last name is meant to lead you to that they're still married. So the detective lets himself in and he's like, oh, who knew that the reunion was gonna be the night she was murdered or something like that? And Jenna is fiddling with her necklace, but I couldn't quite see what it was. But Jenna had a necklace on that she was playing with. Um I think I feel like that was deliberate.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, totally deliberate, but I don't I didn't I couldn't tell. I'm like, okay, well, it's definitely not the locket. But I it was gold. Her necklace was gold. I was just I I saw her fiddling too, and I was just like, uh Jenna is like, well, you were supposed to be here three hours ago.

SPEAKER_00

Do you always keep people waiting or just those you want to break? And I was like, why do I feel like there's some history?

SPEAKER_01

I think they were all in, I think all the they were still in Oh no, they didn't they never talk to her though. It hasn't been.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because remember he was like, I couldn't pin her down.

SPEAKER_01

Not like we're in the best of Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um Craig said we're not on the best of terms. Yeah, which is what and then it leads into Sam, so you're like, oh well that makes sense, right? Because then they're probably probably their marriage ended poorly or whatever. So Or maybe it's just a typical No, no, but when I say there's some history, I feel like it it just her and Jenna and the detective. I know what you mean. I know what you mean. Um That didn't feel like a first meeting.

SPEAKER_01

I just took it as like typical Hollywood starlet just being, I don't say argumentative, but just digging in with the cop, just like just like you treat everybody. I just took it as her being.

SPEAKER_00

I know, but he like he let himself in. She's not like who are you? Oh, he did, that's right. Yeah. So that's what I'm saying. Like it, it Oh, you're that's scene.

SPEAKER_01

Good point.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he's like, I hope you don't mind. You let my I let myself in, and she's like, Oh, do you always keep everyone waiting? Like, you didn't say who the fuck are you in my house? You said do you keep do you always keep everyone waiting? Or those you hope to break, which is why I'm like, ah, so maybe I got something else.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, nice point. Very good point, Lisa.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you. Oh, you're welcome. Locket watch. Carla had it the whole episode. Yes, she did. Here's so one of my previous questions was how did the gun get from Craig's safe to Carla? Maybe Paul was the catalyst for the gun. Maybe at some point Carla needs the gun to protect herself.

SPEAKER_01

Sometimes somebody some years down the road, he's like, here, take this to protect yourself.

SPEAKER_00

So or to protect Amy, you know, whatever the case is, but maybe Paul was the reason for the gun to come back into the picture.

SPEAKER_01

Nice. Good point, good point. Like it, I like it. I'm feeling it. I'm feeling it. I'm team Lisa Gunn theory. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

I I mean, after this, it's kind of like now I'm really intrigued.

SPEAKER_01

Excuse us why we go watch the next episode.

unknown

I know.

SPEAKER_00

There were a few places where the writing was like, oh my god. But for the most part, I think that this is one of the best episodes so far.

SPEAKER_01

I concur.

SPEAKER_00

I like that they made us earn the reveal.

SPEAKER_01

There's Ursa was upset. I'm like, they tricked us, and then then they tricked me to thinking I was wrong. How dare you think? On that note, I'm glad I was I'm glad we were right that it definitely was Samantha.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So yay.

SPEAKER_00

The next episode is gonna be 91. Obviously, we don't have another friend to reveal, so I'm kind of looking to see how the episode might change. Like if it does, you know, since there's no I see lots in the present.

SPEAKER_01

I in my head, I want to see. This is what I want to see. When they get to the present, a little bit less of the detective because you're kind of monotonous with his, you know, with the the friends interacting about how whatever it is that they're hiding. I like to see them like, okay, no, we have and then maybe a little bit of present time flashback leading up to the murder. Does that make sense? Well, I think, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I I would I would imagine that the next episode is going to be more from Jenna's perspective. Well, yeah. And Craig says something like, she's gonna tell him everything. I want to know what everything is. What is that the thing that they're trying to not talk about?

SPEAKER_01

Well, one, I don't think she's gonna tell him everything. So I don't think we're still not gonna know what the everything is.

SPEAKER_00

Right, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So, but yeah. But eventually they're gonna tell us what they think she's gonna that she's gonna tell. Hmm. Excuse us, why are we watching the next two episodes?

SPEAKER_00

I don't I'm trying to think if I have anything else for this episode, and I don't. It's just you know, my question is still the gun, right? How does the gun get from the safe to being used? Mm-hmm. And well, and not just being used, but safe to Carla. So whether or not Carla used it, it that's just whoever used it as a stop on its way to Carla, getting it into the river. So from safe to river, I wanna I still am looking for movement of the gun. I still want to know how Craig was paralyzed or ended up in the wheelchair. And I don't know if this is right, but I feel like Jenna Jenna looked okay, right? She looked okay, she looked fine, but it felt kind of washed up feeling. Did you get that feeling?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And I don't know if that was an accident or deliberate mood for the scene, but it just you know, when we first saw Jenna living in the city, she was like long hair in this fancy loft kind of living it up feeling like expense, expensive, hip, modern, you know what I mean, like new and and luxurious. And now it's kind of like she's just sitting on like this chair in the corner with first of all, it's supposed to be tw 2005, and she still has one of those tiny ass TVs. Here's a thought. Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_01

What if she's still I didn't get a good look at the surroundings, so I might be wrong. It just seems like a cozy corner. Maybe she's at her mom's house. Maybe she never got rid of it. Oh, that's a good point. Like she doesn't live in New York anymore, or at least not in Bedford. Well, her her mother lives in Bedford. Right. I'm talking about Jenna right now doesn't live in Bedford. So maybe she didn't get rid of the house, so she's there at her mother's house.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, so she went to Bedford.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Maybe. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no. You you could be right. That that could be where that scene is taking place. Because the house itself felt very outdated, not what you would think of a 40-year-old actress.

SPEAKER_01

Right. I so I'm thinking maybe hopefully, I don't know, maybe.

SPEAKER_00

Well, she's not you said 20?

SPEAKER_01

40.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

40-something year old, whatever.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I mean, I don't want to sound like like a dick, but she looked more like a porn star than a movie star. I got the I had to be a big thing. What was that movie with Heather Heather Graham? Well m Mark Wahlberg around that time. She gave me vibes like that, like from that movie. I can't remember what the movie was called. Which I think that movie came out in like the very late 90s. Boogie Nights? Boogie Nights, yes. She gave me boogie.

SPEAKER_01

She came out in 97.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. She gave me boogie night vibes. That her her look.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, yeah. I guess that.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah, no, that that's a good point. She could be there because of the reunion. She could be there because she's living there, and maybe she's bitter for some reason, and that's why she's ready to tell on them all and be a snitch. I mean I th I think that her being alive and the comment that she's gonna tell them everything gives us another string to pull on, and I like that.

SPEAKER_01

She's like, I like to pull on strings.

SPEAKER_00

I do.

SPEAKER_01

At least it's very feline that way.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

She said it and I did this.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah, I don't have anything else. At least not that I can think of. 1991, here we come.

SPEAKER_01

We graduated sixth grade in 91.

SPEAKER_00

We did. Yes, we did. In our stupid white dresses that we had to sew at home. It was like fucking DIY dress. You don't remember those stupid white dresses with the eyelids.

SPEAKER_01

And then we had to pattern wasn't clear. Right. And do you know hello? Yeah. The patterns were clear, so everyone's sleeve looked a little bit different. That was miserable. Thankfully, my mother found someone to do because we're do that. It was for the dance festival. It was, yeah. And the graduation.

SPEAKER_00

And the and the heart necklaces.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, just shoot me.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. That I remember. We're gonna wrap this up. Assassinsips.com. Go check it out. Go check out our socials. Show us some love. Text us if you want. Don't drink and drive. And until next time, I'm Lisa. And I'm Agnes. And we are out of here. See you later. Bye.
