SPEAKER_00

Now you can see me. And now I'm like call the angels. You're like ephemeral. We didn't even go one minute without going off on a tangent.

SPEAKER_01

No, one minute. We didn't go 30 seconds.

SPEAKER_00

Hi, and welcome to this episode of Assassin's Sips. Today we are going to recap our coverage of the show, the one season, not even a full season show reunion. And I am Lisa, and I'm sipping on coffee today that may or may not have a little bit of peanut butter whiskey in it, because hair with a dog and all that.

SPEAKER_01

I knew there was something up with you today.

SPEAKER_00

In my Star Wars mug.

SPEAKER_01

You are definitely force be with you.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. My daughter brought me and my husband met like the mugs from when she went to Disney. So I don't, you can't really see, but can you see how it's curved a little bit here? Oh yeah, it has a waistline that I don't have. Great. So his fits. Like when you put them together, mine says I love you, his says I know. Oh and then they like sit, they fit together. Yeah, they're cute.

SPEAKER_01

She's mugs have waistlines that I okay. I'm a little jelly. And I'm Agnes, and I am drinking, I'm just drinking straight up coffee. And I added a couple of shots of espresso. Oh my god. But I only do decaf um coffee. Decaf espresso beans, decaf everything because I'm old now.

SPEAKER_00

And but that so that's just a nice strong cup that's not gonna send you flying through outer space. So that you could tell Gail King, yeah, I've been there too. Well, to be fair. Have you been?

SPEAKER_01

Actually, I have. Actually, I have. I have espresso. I as you should know, coffee was introduced to us while we're still on the bottle. So caffeine doesn't really keep me awake. I drink it for the taste.

SPEAKER_00

It it does now more than it used to. I mean, I worked at Starbucks for over a decade. I could, you could put it in IV and it was like not enough. But as I've gotten older and had like more um, I don't want to say stable jobs, because that's not the word I'm like more of a consistent schedule.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You know, when you work retail, you work whatever hours they fucking tell you and you like it, but or you quit. So, you know. Um, but yeah, no, and so I got more in the habit of like when the kids were in school and and so no more coffee at night, it just it just wasn't. And now I find that if I do drink coffee at night, it's more so that I'm I'm having a harder time falling asleep, and then I'm waking up to pee because I'm old and I've had three kids, and so my bladder is sadly what it used to be.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, to be fair, it's not just you. Coffee is a diuretic, so so there's that. Well, right, but that's that's why because I can't do this anymore. What do you think? Who do you think I am? 20?

SPEAKER_00

Like you rented this in the short term. This was a short-term lease. I don't know what you were thinking. Like, why would you do this at 10 o'clock at night? And so the only time I really have coffee in the evening is when we're somewhere, like uh like at a family's house or when we have a gathering. I mean, even when people come here, I'll make coffee in the night and I'll have a cup. But I'm also the one who's like, I'm gonna stay behind and clean up. And then when I go somewhere, I'll have coffee, but then I still gotta drive home. So it's like, okay, I'll take it, it's fine. But then by the time I get home, I'm like, I'm so tired. But my eyes are like, sleep with your eyes open, bitch.

SPEAKER_01

Caffeine's not affecting caffeine affects me is that it makes my head wonky. It's it's not light-headed, it's not heavy-headed, it's just wonky.

SPEAKER_00

That's probably how I feel with Benadryl.

SPEAKER_01

Probably. And I just like I can't think, my cognitive function is jacked up.

SPEAKER_00

Well, you've heard me record on Benadryl, so I think you can judge.

SPEAKER_01

So I am a little lazy today. I spent all day yesterday cleaning. I feel so much better. So I'm in bed. I didn't feel like I had the laptop in my room when I was editing. I'm in bed. And if I'm further away from my router. So, and in the events things are a little wonky, it's because I'm in bed.

SPEAKER_00

To all our listeners, sorry. All right, let's um, you know, only 45 minutes later, let's talk about the show.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's right. We have we're here for a purpose.

SPEAKER_00

You were here for something. I liked it. I did it. I'm gonna start. I liked it, and I like I said, I didn't know that this show existed at that time. But had I found it then, had I found it now, I I still would have watched it. I I would have completed I don't know what they would have done for the second season, but I definitely would have still wanted to finish at least the first season. And I'm I'm one of those people who I don't like to leave things like up and like oh my god. I'm so stupid this morning. Yeah, like unfinished, upended. That's not the right word, right?

SPEAKER_01

Well, yeah, I know what you mean though. I feel like there's some other word that I'm thinking of. I know what you're thinking of. Okay, because it's there in the back of my head, along with yours. I don't know. Unresolved.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. That's not it either. So I so but I would have finished. I would have oh, it's saying my account is unstable. Great.

SPEAKER_01

We're both unstable. Awesome.

SPEAKER_00

So I definitely would have watched any episode of the show that they gave us, and hopefully it wouldn't have been a cliffhanger.

SPEAKER_01

Like it would have wrapped with purpose, and then gave us something to look forward to for the second season. But I wouldn't like to see season one wrapped up in a bow with a little black box on the side, like, oh, what's that?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I I just, you know, I've read some of the things that I found, and basically the consensus, okay, because I know you and I didn't really talk about this. You know, like we didn't pre-chat about what I found. Yeah, we don't ever do that. So basically what I found says that we were right, that Amy was the killer. That's the consensus? Yes. Um now these are all coming from like comments on the internet. So, you know, take that for what it for what it is. Um, a lot of people were saying that, and I don't know if I'm pronouncing his last name right, but Dave Annable, the one who plays Aaron, had confirmed this in interviews. I didn't find any of those interviews, so I don't know if maybe I was searching the wrong thing, but but that Amy was the killer, and okay, but then past that I found some people were saying that her and Sam struggled and the gun went off, or there was an intruder. So I don't really know the why, because there seemed to be a a few different theories about how it happened, but then I'm like, okay, that makes a lot of sense. That's what we were thinking from the get, right? Like, why would they be protecting someone and then also like when you bring back the locket, really maybe not from Detective Marjorino's perspective, but from our perspective, all clues point to Amy except the DNA, the blood. Because if it is Amy, I'm not sure why they didn't catch the familial match when they ran Will's blood. Unless that's the twist. Maybe that was a twist going into the second season, but maybe it's not actually his kid. Maybe. You know, maybe that was gonna be the you know, then whose kid is it?

SPEAKER_01

Or it's Will's kid, but we're gonna find out in season two that when Will was a child, he had to have a bone marrow transfusion, and the DNA that they picked up was from the donor.

SPEAKER_00

Is that a real thing?

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Oh, it's a real thing. It's not like sometimes like not all your DNA, but there's like you may like the when you get a blonde marrow transfer. That's like the your stem cell.

SPEAKER_00

That's like like the heart of your so I do have a degree in science. Uh okay, then I okay, but I don't know any of this. I guess I didn't I was absent that day.

SPEAKER_01

You took a nap. Um, no, it's possible, so a DNA you can get.

SPEAKER_00

I've always wondered that. Like if you have um like when you have a tran like an organ transplant or something, or you wear a wig. Like, you know, because when they say like the wigs are made from human hair, like how does that work when they're testing DNA and stuff?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. I think the human hair is still processed to the point where you know like it's a wig or extensions. You know, it's you know it there's no DNA in because it's I mean, I would assume the follicle is not there. Right, that's what the DNA is at in the follicle.

SPEAKER_00

But okay, yeah. No, you're right, you're right. So that okay, I I just I just helped prove myself wrong. Got it. Um, but you know, with science, you can always be proven wrong, but never right. So I'm okay with that. Okay. You know what I mean. I know what you mean. Scary. Um, let's see. Yeah, so that the DNA is the thing that gets me. But that's what that's what happens in season two. That's gotta be what happens in season two. All right. We just have to.

SPEAKER_01

Wrong answers only.

SPEAKER_00

Who out there wants to do extra credit? Um, if you want extra credit, awesome. If if somebody out there wants to send us an outline for season two, we'll give you a year's free membership to Patreon. But it's gotta be like, it's gotta be uh you you gotta have put work into it. Don't don't tell us, don't tell us, oh, the DNA didn't match season two. I just said that. You can't copy my work. I have to show your work too. Um I know they they they do all sorts of reboots and stuff, but I don't think that this one will ever be picked up again. That's not impossible, right? Nothing is impossible, but I don't see them ever going back. So we're gonna have to double down on our outreach and be like, hey, somebody needs to get us like an actual an actual like confirmation from somebody associated with the show. Uh who knows, right?

SPEAKER_01

Like we're supposed to send a message to like all the actors in the world.

SPEAKER_00

You had it pulled up, but you never sent.

SPEAKER_01

I never did it.

SPEAKER_00

We'll do it now. Okay. As Lisa continues with the episode. Yeah, I didn't mean like right here on this episode. I mean without if you want, but I just meant it's you know. Could you imagine we're gonna ding as we're recording? And as and as we're covering the real world, I can't help but still compare the the background, like the scenery. Because it's 1992 in the real world. And here, and here we are watching the real world, and yes, it's MTV, and yes, it's you know, soho and gritty and blah blah blah. But I'm just like, oh my god, the fashion, the the look of everything in New York was so different than this beautiful perception of what New York was in the 90s. Yeah. Just like, yeah, no, that's that's not it. Not it. No acid wash jeans and baggy, you know, with the pleats in the front front. Remember those? Oh god.

SPEAKER_01

I don't remember what they're called, but like I really feel like in 2005, they really had so much they could they had opportunity and resources to go back and see what it really was.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It wasn't like they're in 1970 going back into 1940. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

Having to look at grainy pictures and memories. Right. They had you had the fucking internet. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that I think that that's one of the things that's the real world they can go back and and try to find and watch.

SPEAKER_00

Is is the lack of effort that went into some of the and and I think that maybe I maybe we're if they would have pinned picked up, I think it would have gotten better.

SPEAKER_01

Because think about your pilot and then your first season, which you first have. It's more like, let's get it together. I just want this to play out. I just, you know, we have like no budget. Let's just get something out so they can at least see us. And I there's been a lot of shows that the first season, if you go back, the first season is like, what the fuck? And then it's true, and then it does like a complete like overhaul for the second season. Yeah. Close up better, the sets better, the writing's better, you know. I mean, definitely, right?

SPEAKER_00

But see, for me, the pilot is always a hit or miss. The first few episodes is usually where the where the any show starts to find its footing. And I can even say, like, okay, the first few episodes, you were still kind of coming off of the pilot, you're still trying to figure out what works. But I mean, how did you not know that the writing was meh and and I don't know if we're looking at this through 2025 eyes, because I feel like in a lot of ways we have become so spoiled with our television. Everything is done so much nicer and cleaner. I mean, we have graphics that we didn't have, CGI and computer um things that we can do in order to uh, you know, like like right here in the Zoom, I can change my background, make it look like I'm sitting by the Golden Gate Bridge, not in my bed. And I think that we've gotten a lot more spoiled to expect that everything in the scene, everything that we're seeing is purposeful. And to go back and to see a show where they they kind of like half-assed the secondary, I think it's it's just more frustrating for me because I'm looking at it through that perspective. Like especially when you know, since then we have had shows like Lost, where we are dissecting every nook and cranny. We have had shows like Breaking Bad, that you know, you talk about, you talk about Game of Thrones, and it's like every detail except the Starbucks cup is on purpose. And then to go back to a show like this, and you're like, well, that's clearly not where you are. And and this is so no, that's that that would never happen. And you know, like, oh, some kids were playing in the East River and they fished out a gun. That's not gonna happen. Okay? The detective ate pizza wrong. That was an easy one. Like, and it's it's so stupid, it really is so stupid. But I I am so sure that I am not the only person, and let's be honest, New York is one state, New York City is one small region, but only geographically, right? By the numbers, we're a huge population. So you're just like pissing off four million people with your show who are sitting there saying the nobody fucking plays in the East River, and nobody goes back and forth upstate, city, upstate city, like they change your panties. Like, come on.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I think the island of Manhattan has like eight to nine million people by the way.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know how many. I'm just saying, like, okay, and how many and how many of them are watching the show? So, you know, well, but there's millions of people in New York City. And and Bedford is a real place. Even the people in Bedford, New York are probably like, the fuck goes to the city like that. You go there for work and you come home. Like, nobody goes back and forth. Like, you're not taking a five-minute trip to the store. You're not making a I was gonna say a target run, but we're not gonna say target. We're we're not making a Costco run. Like, you know, a Costco run would be faster than you know what I mean, like driving to Bedford from Manhattan. Nobody does that willingly just for fun. You live in the city, you're not planning events in Bedford.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, I'm gonna get down now, but yeah, because you were I'm just like, as you can tell, Lisa's highly upset about the doctor's.

SPEAKER_00

Um, like we we didn't go from Brooklyn to Manhattan that that much, and it was three stops on the train. Like, we literally could we could walk. I mean, we I know I have have walked from where we grew up in Brooklyn, we could walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and into Manhattan, and it still would have been faster than driving to Bedford, New York. Like, no, nobody does that. Like, so yeah, okay. I know it's a small thing, and I know that if you live in some other place in the world or in the country, maybe you just it's a non-issue for you. And that's fine. I'm just saying that for me, those are the things that bothered me. And if they ever want to reboot this show, I'm available, please. And I'll I'll work at a reduced rate. I just want to know what happens, and I I don't want to be pissed off when I'm watching. I just want to know what happens. I I don't need the sag rate. I'll work below uh, you know, not a member. Well but I'll I'm still available for consulting.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you would definitely have to work below the sag rate because, you know, not a mirror of SAG. So there's yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Obviously, but okay, so what did pissed you off about this show?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, the little things, I don't think it really pissed me off other than I didn't get to chance. Well I didn't get to finish. Well then that it was okay. It was cute. The writing was a little lackluster. Did it piss me off to Lisa Stanley? No. No, it did not.

SPEAKER_00

Did you hate when you don't get to finish?

SPEAKER_01

I always finish if I had to do it myself. Um well, yeah, but you know what I mean. But no, yeah, I think that's the only thing that I actually kind of like meh. But we knew this going into it, we weren't gonna get resolution.

SPEAKER_00

So I and I'm not as I did really like the premise. I think that around that time. There were in the early 2000s, I think that there were a lot of shows that came out that were very creative, um and very unique. I I mean there might be another show that is similar, but there's none that I can think of in the sense of like year by year by year. Um there was a show, so um when I worked in in the village, Michelle Heard used to be one of our like really good customers. She's such a sweetheart. And um she was in a show called Leap Year. And it was I don't know, it didn't last very long because it was like it jumped as the um name kind of hints at. Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_01

But there were title.

SPEAKER_00

But after 9-11, they canceled it because of the you know, in the city and downtown and you know. But aside from that, like I can't think of any show that that really just goes year by year. And then you had um I mean you had Lost, which wasn't a year by year, but it was unique in the way that they were like with the flashbacks, and each each episode kind of gives a little perspective on a different character, which was a new thing. There was also a show called I I want to say it was called Injustice. And it was you see it was I I really like this show actually. You kind of see you know how like when you watch like Law and Order or whatever, you kind of see the crime, and then but like well, if you're watching criminal intent, sometimes you don't always see the how. But but like you see the kind of crime, and then you see them, they're basically trying the crime, and then you see the outcome of the trial, but then at the end of the show, they show you exactly what happens, and it was so fascinating because you could you get to play jury also.

SPEAKER_01

Do you remember that show? I don't remember that show, but it was you reminded me of a show that's somewhat similar. And it was Motif. Um, where you got a sniff of the crime, and then it goes to like them like solving the crime, and it goes back and forth, and it kind of like you get the end and you get the beginning, and then they kind of meet in the middle, and you're like, oh shit, that's not exactly like you think you know the crime, but you it was and it was um it was an I just looked at it 2013, four season, four season. It was a Canadian drama.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

So it probably didn't get as much play as it should have, but it was phenomenal.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I'm actually the info because I'm gonna want to watch that.

SPEAKER_01

Actually, when we get done recording, I think I'm gonna pull it up and watch it again because I I think I've seen the season, the show two, three times from beginning to end.

SPEAKER_00

Oh wow, you know, and I so I just I just mean it to say that there were I I think that that was the time when there were a lot of shows experimenting with different formats and less the traditional, you know, just serialized dramas or serialized shows. And it was like, how can we shake this up? How can we do something different? And I feel like Injustice was another show that I don't even think it made it past the first season. And it sucks because you know, people now. This is also back when DVD started um DVR started being a thing, like TiVo, DVR. People weren't watching TV in the same way that they watched. Like it used to be by appointment, and suddenly it was not.

SPEAKER_01

And they just didn't have any idea how to measure. Right. Now I don't feel guilty. I don't mind watching it because it gets measured. Well, not anymore because I don't have a phone.

SPEAKER_00

But then everything, so everything the networks were like, oh, people are not watching this canceled. But but maybe they were, they just weren't watching it live because they were enjoying their freedom to go to Thirsty Thursdays at 9 p.m. on a Thursday instead of sitting and I want a thirty.

SPEAKER_01

I want to I want Thirsty Thursdays, I want Taco Tuesday, I want margarita Monday. I had a margarita last night or two. No wonder that explains so much.

SPEAKER_00

And I had sangria on tap. I'm so jealous. Yeah, but I think it was just like wine. It was just wine, and then they added shit. So it really was just wine on tap that they turned into sangria. I don't know. Like now I'm trying to think of other shows that were done differently. Can you think of any other shows that were done like differently like that? Now I'm curious.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I wasn't prepared for inside the box. So stop making me use my brain.

SPEAKER_00

We never prepare. Okay. You out there? What shows for us? Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Do our job for us.

SPEAKER_00

Yep, no, not you. Okay, you, yeah. Um, what other shows do you think of that are she laughing at me? That are differently, that were done made differently. You know, it's some other gimmick for lack of a better term.

SPEAKER_01

You mean besides us? Huh? I mean, we're weird, we're different, we have a gimmick. No, I yeah. I said besides us, that's a joke. That went right over your head and they hit you in the back. Seriously.

SPEAKER_00

Not not enough anything in here.

SPEAKER_01

Hung over lease is not as much fun as a trunk lease.

SPEAKER_00

Hung over.

SPEAKER_01

I'm just I'm just tired. You're mentally hungover, not physically hung over.

SPEAKER_00

He's like, but you slept like almost eight hours. You mean like I finally I passed the fuck out? I mean, I don't that's not really like sleeping. And then a woodpecker woke me up. And not the woodpecker, not the pecker that you think that should be waking you up in the morning. Not that wood. No. Anyway, it was Woody Woodpecker without the laugh.

SPEAKER_01

You would have been a lot happier if the other pecker pecked you.

SPEAKER_00

It may or may not have, but but not at that time. Would you watch a show like this again? I would. Yeah, me too.

SPEAKER_01

Next question.

SPEAKER_00

How do we get them to finish the first season 20 years later?

SPEAKER_01

We're going to try to at least once we get done recording this, I'm going to reach out to everyone on Instagram that was attached to the show and ask for help. And then I'm going to watch Motive. And then by the time I'm done with Motive, someone should respond back like, hey, you psycho, leave us alone.

SPEAKER_00

Listen, you know what? It could happen, okay? When you ditched me to go be, you know, a good daughter and take care of your family.

SPEAKER_01

And you know, and a grandmother and all that other fun stuff. That's kind of thinking.

SPEAKER_00

I know. But I I reached out to everyone. I just see that. I'm following. And I I mean, I I got one response. So, you know, it's happy. You know? And it was way back then when we were official nobodies. And now, I mean, look at us, we're damn nearly famous. We're gonna be going to space soon. Or El Salvador, who knows? But maybe you'll get a response. Yeah, I don't know. I don't really have anything else, but like you should also watch that show that I told you and see how they compare. Okay. Yeah, I I was so mad when that one didn't come back. But anyway. Um, and I know that there's other shows that I'm like when they got canceled, but I like more recent.

SPEAKER_01

I like in between that got canceled. I don't know. Well, what is that one? It was is it the one? Yes. Is it a cop's daughter? She can kind of see like kind of it's like the 20, the 20, 20 something version of Median.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I I never watched medium either. But you get the pre- you know what medium's about.

SPEAKER_01

So she can see like this ghost of between life and death, and they would come, yeah, it was pretty good. Okay. Was that in between? Yeah, I think that I think that was it. Yeah, it was pretty damn good.

SPEAKER_00

There's a lot of shows that ended one season and then I was just Yeah, that's the problem because all of those shows around there in in those years were canceled way too soon because, you know, like the fucking the algorithms. They're not they're not they're basing their measurements on what was becoming an outdated way of watching TV. And it sucks because I think that a lot of those um shows could have could have had potential. What um another question for you guys out there, not Agnes, you guys, yeah. Right? Okay, yeah, you your turn. What show got cancelled way too soon in your opinion, that you were enjoying and then it got cancelled, and you're still s a little salty about it. Let us know. Do you have anything else? No.

SPEAKER_01

I am just really trying to think. And my brain is stupid. No, it's contagious. Yeah, you're passing on the stupidity. Actually, did I get did I drink two last night and I don't remember? No, but I cleaned my house and it feels so I feel so much better. I try to do spring cleaning once a month. And it felt so good.

SPEAKER_00

Stay tuned, you guys. We're gonna be starting our next show. Why do you look like that? I'm just so excited. Oh, I was like, what fuck did I screw up? No, I'm not in the right frame of mind to interpret anything right now. Do you want to announce the new show? Nope.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Yes? Are we announcing it? Yeah. For all my get in the call, Elizabeth fans will be watching Good Girls. Lisa forgot again, didn't she?

SPEAKER_00

I didn't forget. I just I know nothing about this. I didn't look it up. I didn't do anything. I don't know what this is.

SPEAKER_01

Well, Lisa's not really on social media. And if you're on social media, you know the memes. The way he says it makes every woman like, my name's Elizabeth. Okay, in the car. That's fine.

SPEAKER_00

I am on social media. I just I guess I'm not enough. I don't know this.

SPEAKER_01

No, you're on social media as Sassin Sips. You're not on social media as Lisa, and it's a different. You don't see the fun things. You see like the works. You see, like, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Get in the car, Elizabeth.

SPEAKER_00

Is that a see? And I, when you said it the first time, I thought it was like a scary, like a horror thing. Like a dramatic You will get in the car because I'm about to fuck your ass up.

SPEAKER_01

SPEAKER_00

Okay. All right. How many seasons is this?

SPEAKER_01

I don't remember. Three or four.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay. All right. Oh, four or five. I can't wait to hate it and shit all over it every episode.

SPEAKER_01

You're not going to. This is what gives me so much pleasure that you're going to like it.

SPEAKER_00

We'll see. I'll be the judge of that. You're gonna like it.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. I just need you guys to also know, like every week, Lisa's like, well, you gonna tell me what show it is? I'm like, I did. No, you didn't. It's this.

SPEAKER_00

I asked you to watch one show. It's one four-letter word.

SPEAKER_01

SPEAKER_01

I love you.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. The whole clip could be like, Agnes is a cunt, Agnes is a bitch, Agnes is a jerk, and she'd be like, Why didn't you share? But you wouldn't be wrong. What?

SPEAKER_01

So I am not afraid of the truth. So in that case, I have jet lag.

SPEAKER_00

No, you don't. Not anymore.

SPEAKER_01

I have Agnes lag. Maybe. I'm abused at work. That's what it is. I'm over the it's like, okay, I can't argue. Maybe you need a new job. Maybe I need not to have to work for a living. There's that. Yeah. Yeah. So save a horse and ride a cowboy.
