SPEAKER_01

Hi and welcome to Assassin's. Are you crunching? Okay. It's been a minute. Uh we I'm done crunching, I'm here. Okay. So um I'm Lisa.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm Brittany.

SPEAKER_01

And we want to say thank you so much for you know hanging out with us and listening to this episode. I want to apologize that it's been so long. Um, you know, there's just been life stuff and a bunch of crap going on, and we we got into as much as we could on the pre-show. Um, you know, we talk about uh the wacky neighbors, we talk about all the drama with the social media accounts.

SPEAKER_03

Talk about there was moving, there was dying, there was weird neighbors.

SPEAKER_01

There's there's been Brittany and I, yeah, we've we've both had some deaths in the family. Um she's moved, she has her work stuff. I have some car issues, I have kids with medical issues. Um yeah, it's it's been it's been a bit.

SPEAKER_03

Um but we're washing it down tonight with some amazing sangria.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

From Tritter Joe's. It's called Maria Lola Sangria.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_03

Actually really good.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and then it's a plastic bottle.

SPEAKER_03

I know, so we can't break it.

SPEAKER_01

And also you cut up some fruit for it, which made it better. And we're sitting in your new apartment and we're trying to get back on the road. Yeah, and I think it's actually happening.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like it's it's happening like at the moment for us, but like by the time you hear it, we'll be recording even more episodes. Yeah, which is amazing that we're just back on track, yeah. Um we're getting our social media sorted after that whole like bullshit. But what's most important is talking about Six Feet Under. Yeah, because as we took our like forced hiatus, um we have not watched the show. It's not like we're watching it and then we watched all the episodes and we're recording all of them. That's not what's happening at all. So we had to stop watching, which is horrible for Lisa because when she gets to like episode 12 or 13, oh we're just gonna be like woof!

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm gonna be like sitting outside your door, like you're not allowed to leave for work until we talk about this.

SPEAKER_02

Uh-huh. And it's gonna be something to talk about, but for now we are on episode 11, and it is called the trip.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, so and what a trip it was.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Have you been to Vegas? I have not. Oh. But I feel like I have now.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I got everything I needed from this episode. Okay, yeah. Between David's experiences outside of the casino, Brenda and Nate's experiences inside of the casino, and the conferences near the casino. Jesus. I think I had enough. But let's get into it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

This episode opens with a starter that made me question whether a baby has died in the show before. And I could not remember at all for the life of me. I feel like one of the first episodes we had like an infant die, but I think I've just always been thinking about this episode. I've talked about previously how I've seen snippets of six feet under when I was small, when it was like coming on TV for the first time. Um, my parents used to watch it. They would tell me, don't look, and I would look, and they probably didn't know, but now they do. Um now they do since I've talked to them about like watching the show and how good it is. And so I remember seeing this scene, and it kind of just like not traumatically, but it just kind of like stuck with me all these years. It's a little rough. It is very rough, especially when you're a kid and you don't know what Sid's is. Yeah, not that it makes it any better, but yeah, so there's a baby in the beginning of this episode, and his name's Dylan Michael Cooper. Um, and he unfortunately passes away in the night from Sid's.

SPEAKER_01

It was my only note, as soon as I saw like the the baby's perspective, I was like, my only note is what the fuck six feet under. That's what I mean.

SPEAKER_03

Like it the way that they show his death is just it's so fucked up. Like not fucked up as in like this episode shouldn't be on HBO anymore, but like it's just so sad to see it from his perspective. Like you're the eyes of the baby. It's not like that episode, like episode four or five when the guy fell in the meat grinder and you just kind of like watch the whole thing happen, or in the first episode where the guy hits his head. That that's what I mean, but now you're seeing it from the perspective of the person who is dying. Yeah, the baby who's dying.

SPEAKER_01

I last episode is bad, too. Yeah, well, yeah, but it's it's one of those things where if you're also going to examine it, how how could you have done it better? I don't know if you could have. Exactly. So I give them credit for that because there's definitely not a lot of ways to handle an infant death without it being crude.

SPEAKER_03

And they do a really great job of that in this episode. Right. Now that you're saying that, I'm realizing that all throughout the episode, you never really see this baby. You don't. Yeah. You see like a a foot or a hand, yeah, but never see the baby at all. Which was a great way of like telling the story, which is something that unfortunately does happen in this world, but um it's a great way of like showing this story without showing the like the sadness of it. Yeah, like the full sadness of it. And so after we see Dylan Michael Cooper 2001 to 2001 show up on the screen, we see David wake up with a friend in his little backhouse apartment. Am I right? Yes, okay, yeah. When you look at your computer, I'm like, am I wrong? No, no, no. Um, and so David wakes up and he's with this guy who we find out like is one of David's little like chatting online fuck buddies.

SPEAKER_01

And um, he says something really nasty to David too. He says something like Yeah, he was like what like you're a lot nicer online or something. Because David's like, you gotta go now. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um David's using like chat rooms to set up his white night his one night stands now, and as he's like trying to shoe this guy out, the remark was that you seem a lot nicer online. And at this point, David's not going by David, he goes by Jim. Jim. Yes, Jim from Boston, maybe. No, David's not David's not trying to apologize. He's just like, well, people already know he's what they seem to be.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well. And the guy leaves. But the guy leaves. Oof. But as he walks out the door of like David's little garage apartment or whatever it is.

SPEAKER_03

Like the backhouse apartment happens to face where Ruth is working on her flowers. And so this guy walks out to Ruth. Yeah. He's polite enough, right? Like morning. Yeah, that's what I mean. Like, for the stigma that was against gays during that time and what they're trying to portray in the show, like, like the guy wasn't trying to seem like, oh, we're just friends, or something like that. Like, he wasn't being apologetic for what clearly happened. And Ruth is all in her head.

SPEAKER_01

Ruth is picturing this whole like Dave is hanging from the hook in a ceiling while he's getting whipped.

SPEAKER_03

And like laughing, and Ruth is like disgusted, and she ends up taking the garden pose and like spriting the guy with them.

SPEAKER_01

Like, could you imagine what's going through that guy's head? He's like, morning, ma'am, shh, shows. Yeah.

unknown

I got the hose.

SPEAKER_01

He got the hose. I mean, he gave the hose and he got the hose, and now he got the hose again. Um, anyhow.

SPEAKER_03

Anyhow, we continue on in the episode. And so, pretty sure at this point, this is when Ruth is kind of confronting David. No, I don't think that yet. Oh, but this is kind of like a continuation of this. Yes, go for it. So, later on in the episode, not too far off, um, Ruth actually tries to talk to David about what happened.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because she's like bring she goes to bring him his laundry. Which is so sad. Right, and then like as she's sitting in there, like trying to like give him his laundry, she sees like the lube and she sees the condom wrapper.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god, yeah, they should like one thing after another. Like, David realized like the lube was on the counter.

SPEAKER_01

He like grabs the shirt with the lube and tries to hide it.

SPEAKER_03

There were like empty beer bottles on the table and then the condom wrapper on the floor. I was like, David, you fucking messy pig.

SPEAKER_01

I know. Like, how did you not maybe don't have mommy bring your laundry if you gotta clean up after your like fuck buddies just left.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Now, the part that really baffled me when we were just watching it back, like together before we started recording. We didn't go through the whole episode, but David was tying something up. Like when Ruth walked in. There was something hanging from the ceiling. It almost looked like um like a garment bag or something like that, but it had like zippers and shit in it. And he seemed very startled when Ruth came in. Oh.

SPEAKER_01

I don't, I guess it ain't like cat- I I I remember him hanging something up, but I don't really remember like what it was.

SPEAKER_03

But in like the fantasy in Ruth's head, it was like a sex swing or something, right? I I think that will like this.

SPEAKER_01

Like his arms up.

SPEAKER_03

But I was like specifically. No, that's what I mean. I was specifically looking in the episode and it looks like it's just hanging from like the ceiling. Right, it's just hanging. And it's like a lofted-yeah, that's what I mean. It's like a lofted ceiling in like that apartment that he has, so you can't really see like where exactly on the ceiling it's hanging from. You can see it's just like hanging there. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

What was that? Maybe there was like a plant or something hanging on it.

SPEAKER_03

No, it was just like a bag. I'll show you later.

SPEAKER_01

But like No no, but I'm saying like that maybe that's what the hook was for. But what was originally and then David. What was it?

SPEAKER_03

I don't know. I don't know either. But after the run-ins with David's tools from last night, or Jim's tools from last night.

SPEAKER_00

Jim from Boston.

SPEAKER_03

Um Ruth goes to say something to David. She says, I just wanted to know, are you and then he just like implies not to finish. He just does not let her finish that sentence. And he's like, tell me he says something like ask me when I come back from Vegas. Yeah. Speaking of which, the trip is in Vegas. The episode title. Yeah. They're going to David, they're going to David, they're going to David Las Vegas for a funeral conference. And so, um, they're seeing different coffins, they're seeing different uh companies work on okay, but wait a minute.

SPEAKER_01

I want to cut you off. Because before they get there, Brenda and Nate are in bed. Yeah. And her phone keeps ringing, and it's Billy, and she she doesn't want to answer it, and Nate tells her something to the effect of like, you're gonna have to face him at some time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, because definitely, like, on the other side of town, while David was dealing with his mom saying, like, we'll talk about this after Las Vegas. Brenda is laying in bed with Nate, and she hears her voicemail keep going off, and she keeps saying, Fuck you, right to the answering machine because she knows it's Billy calling. Right. That's when Nate says, my quote of the week, that you're going to have to face him sometime, which we will talk about this quote of the week at the end of the episode.

SPEAKER_01

Um, but then he brings it up that he's got his trip to Vegas, and she was like, Oh, okay, you know, fine, whatever. But then later you see David and Nate packing their car so that they can head out, and here comes Brenda. I'm tagging along. I mean, okay, but who invited you? Like, this is a work trip for them. Yeah, I feel like that was a little shitty for her to just kind of It actually is.

SPEAKER_03

I didn't see it that way.

SPEAKER_01

Because it's not just Nate, it's David too.

SPEAKER_03

And David obviously takes this job very seriously. Oh, yeah, for sure. When Brenda was yelling, fuck you at the answering machine, was like she's actually really growing to not always be on Billy's side. Like, she's seeing the faults in Billy, especially from her parents in the previous episode. But she's actually not just like taking that in, keeping it in the back of her head, like she's acting on that, and she's like she's showing resentment towards her brother, which is something like that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because they they they've always had a consensus relationship, like the the parents and Brenda, but they've managed to drive a wedge in between her and Billy now. Yeah, and so now you're really seeing the aftermath of all of that.

SPEAKER_03

But was it a wedge her parents were driving, or were they giving her a warning? Oh, that's a good point. Because from what we see later on in this episode, we know what Billy's capable of.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So maybe it wasn't intended to be a wedge, but it definitely is.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And so, my like I said, my comment is that Brenda is growing not to be always on Billy's side, which is maybe why she impromptubly just like tagged along because maybe she just wanted to get out of town and forget about what was going on with her brother.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't fault her for wanting it, it's just to me, I guess maybe my personality, it's not something I would have done that way, or I would have appreciated having done to me. You know, like she could have just said, Hey, can I tag along? Do you mind if I tag along? Like I won't be in the way or whatever. Like, I can't imagine that they would have been like, no, but to say, I'm coming with you, it's like, uh, are you?

SPEAKER_03

And before they do all head off to Vegas, uh, they have to now deal with the parents of Dylan.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

In the beginning of the episode. Yeah. And so they're sitting down, they're talking with Dylan's parents. This was really heartbreaking.

SPEAKER_01

And like just so like innocent seeming.

SPEAKER_03

The the main bullet point title that I have for the scene is called Soothing the Babies, The Young Parents. It was really sad. It they were just like, we're only here because the hospital told us to come here. And this is also when we find out that Dylan was only three weeks old. Yeah. We know he was definitely less than a year because of like his birth year and death year, but we didn't know exactly how old he was. Um, and his parents said some shit like he just barely got here. I know. Which was absolutely fucking horrible. But Nate, as usual, always has the most amazing response.

SPEAKER_01

That was my quote of the week. Which is some babies are just too good for this world. Actually, no. That's right, that was not my that was going to be my quote of the week, but then I found a different one. But I really did. Close second for both of us. Yeah, yeah. I really did like it. It was some babies are just too good for this world.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and Nate was just being so uh like sympathetic and empathetic for them. Yeah, and it was really really heartbreaking, but just like amazing to see Nate's skills. And along with this, um, they let Frederica know that you know you have to do what you usually do with the dead people to this baby by the time they come back. Like, we're gonna be in Vegas, we're at a conference, so like you can you can call us, you can call David and he'll come back if you need help, but like you gotta be able to do it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they told him, like, I'm only a few hours away, like if you really need help, I'll come back.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but like they know David's very much talking about it like it's a job and not like a baby, and this is the way that Frederico's seeing it. We also know that like his wife is pregnant, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But I think I I got the feeling that even though David is very matter-of-fact about a lot of things, I got the feeling that David really understood on a personal level why this was hard for Rico. Even if he didn't say it, I think the fact that he kind of alluded to the fact that they were only a few hours away was his way of being empathizing. Yeah, being like, hey, we know it's gonna be hard.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm. It makes me almost wonder why, like, hey, why didn't you just go to the conference late?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's a good point.

SPEAKER_03

Right. But that wouldn't have made for a good episode. Anyway.

SPEAKER_01

I I got a note and I forgot to tell you before. One thing that I noticed is that when Nate and Brenda were laying in their bed, they're naked, obviously. But like the door, the back door is wide open. Are you serious? Yeah. That's what that note was. Yes, okay. Yeah. But like, I'm sure you have neighbors. Why is your door? Like, it's not just like the windows and the curtains are open. It's like your whole your whole door was just open. Yeah, that's kind of weird. Right? Yeah. For that, why are you laying under the covers? I mean, why is it just fuck outside?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. It very much did look like they were just waking up in the morning, but she was definitely awake because Well then that's even worse. Because then you just slept with the door open all night. Well, maybe maybe she got up, she opened up the door to get some air, and she was just laying in bed, and that's when the phone started ranging. I don't know. She she could have been up for a while, like before Nate, and then Nate woke up from like the phone ringing over and over.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But back to Vegas. Um Well, let's talk about Claire. Oh shit. Fuck, yeah. Before Vegas still, we get another sneaky scene right in there. Yeah. She's trying to get in touch with Gabe's mom still. This is still an issue. Yeah, yeah. And she keeps calling Gabe's mom and finally she gets through. And she finds out where Gabe went. Yeah. And I had when I was re-watching this episode for the technically third, but in reality, like second time. Um, the first time being a couple years ago, and the second time being like when you were watching it for the first time. Um, I was just like, oh my god, Gabe's dead. Oh my god, Gabe committed suicide. Like completely forgetting what actually happened, and then I was like, oh my god, no, he didn't. And so we actually end up learning that Gabe, um, when he said he went to go visit his dad, he actually just went somewhere.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Probably like OD'd in his car.

SPEAKER_01

Well, we because in that moment you see Claire on the phone and then you you see her say, Oh my god, where? And then she hangs up the phone, but we don't learn yet. But you know, come to find out that he's in a hospital in Barstow because he OD'd, probably on purpose.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So Which is something that we work up to towards the end of the episode.

SPEAKER_01

Right, right.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. But Gabe is alive, Gabe is in hospital recovering because we do learn that he I mean, there's not there's not really a lot of like Claire stuff in this episode. Like, do you want to just like run through it? Yeah, that's why I was kind of going into like the OD part because Claire's portion in this episode, like the Claire Gabe storyline, it's just so like short.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So we can rush through. Yeah, she goes, she drives like immediately gets in her car, drives to Barstell. His mom is sitting in the hospital room bitching at like money issues, and she talks to Gabe and and little by little kind of comes to find out what happened. She spends the night there, she brings him McDonald's. He's a little bit underappreciative of his cold egg McMuffin, even though she knows that that's what or whatever it was and she got it for him because that's what she what he liked, and she didn't want to wake him up, so it was cold. When she gets back home, and this this surprised me a little bit. Ruth was like, Can I ask where you were because you didn't come home last night? Mm-hmm. But Ruth gives her like good advice because she says that she had a friend who OD'd and they talk about it a little bit, but you know, Ruth warns her, like, okay, but maybe just be careful. But I feel like Ruth is trying very hard to just be there for Claire without overstepping because she wants their relationship to keep growing and getting better, and she doesn't want it to backslide, but yeah, she definitely is like trying to touch this with the 10th of it. Yeah, but it's like I get it, Ruth. I get it, you know. Like I I have a 16-year-old daughter, but like the bitch didn't come home last night and she didn't call, so like it's okay if you're mad.

SPEAKER_03

And then she says it's because she was like hanging out with somebody who just tried to kill themselves. Right.

SPEAKER_01

Like you could have called from the hospital and you could have said, Mom, listen, like this is what's going on. I mean, I know like cell phones weren't really like a thing like they are now, but you could have called home.

SPEAKER_03

It's interesting though, because as we learned, not that it's like anything too scandalous in the episode, Ruth wasn't even home. She was at a flower retreat. I know, but like. Like she could have left a message. That's true. You're right. Not that like I'm saying like Claire shouldn't have called, but it's not even like she would have even gotten in touch with someone.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

But yeah, because Ruth is just living Ruth's life for like.

SPEAKER_01

And she should. You know. Yeah. That's good. Like, I'm not I'm not mad at Ruth for that, but but she's still a mom. She still worries about her kids, I'm sure.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You know, come on, Claire. Like your mom's trying, you gotta try a little too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I the way that Claire acts now makes me not like Claire at all. Because she's just so immature. She's a little hot and cold for me. Yeah, she she definitely is. Um, she's definitely been through a lot of shit. Don't forget the first episode, she like was on speed, right? Like she was on something. Finding out her dad died, like, whoa, you know, but yeah, Claire is just a piece of work, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But this this episode, she's just she's just yeah, Claire, and then you know, she's struggling through her own shit, whatever. But like I think that's pretty much all there is for her, right? That is all there is for Claire.

SPEAKER_03

Because this episode mainly focuses on the growth of Ruth, yeah. As well as the downfall of Brendan's.

SPEAKER_01

Well, the growth of Ruth, but I think as a person, not as a parent.

SPEAKER_03

Oh no, that's what I mean. Like has like just she's growing as a character. Not necessarily as a mother, but just like in her full form from I mean, beforehand she only really defined herself as a mother and wife, and now she's done so much more. And this was definitely like a character development episode for her. Um but at the same time, it also shows the downturn of David, the downward spiral of David, the downward spiral of Brenda and Billy's relationship, how Nate has always been here for Brenda, and he really shows her in this episode. And all this happens in Vegas. Not for not for Ruth, but the rest of it happens in Vegas. So we're in Vegas now. And they get there. I'm trying to figure out where we are now.

SPEAKER_01

Well, before we go to Vegas, let's just let's just keep talking about Ruth. Okay. Nikolai insults her skills at flower arrangements. Yeah, yeah. And um because he says like all her flower arrangements are like for funerals. So he wants her to just like do the books, but she doesn't want to. She wants to she says that she spent 30 years doing the books with her husband and she wants to do the arrangements. So, in order to like better herself, she takes a class with the woman who could be Brenda's mom. Oh my god, it looks just like Brenda. Right. It's so weird. And apparently, the key to making good flower arrangements is breathing from your stomach. Not your stomach, Lisa. It was much further.

SPEAKER_03

Damn. Okay. Okay. Because Ruth's reaction was like, What? I breathe in my lungs.

SPEAKER_01

She's like, of course you do, dear. Um, but yeah, so she does some yoga and all of a sudden she can do some flower arranging. But um, yeah, I think I mean that you know, obviously in the show that took a little bit longer, but but that's basically it for Ruth.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I mean, like, the flower arrangements were really just a metaphor for her learning to just open up and accept what's going on around her instead of being so like closed-minded. I think the closed flower arrangement or the very tight flower arrangement.

SPEAKER_01

Well, right, that's the word tight because that's what she that's always how she's been, is very uptight. Uh-huh. That was completely very guarded, very like just in insular.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and I I feel like this is really just priming the pump for the way that Ruth reacts to David when they get to that, and which is not in this episode. But yeah, like we actually see Ruth learn how to open up and breathe. And that's pretty much like what she learned in this episode, which sounds small, but it is huge for her. She really up to this point, and we're 11 episodes in. She's just been so tight and closed.

SPEAKER_02

Especially when she practically had like a temperatant when Nikolai told her. That's what I mean.

SPEAKER_03

Like, even even though she does things that are very like off-the-beaten path, like for somebody who presents themselves like her. Like, for example, she had like a relationship outside of her marriage, like that is not something that somebody who shows personality traits like she does does, right? So she's she just like she hasn't always a hundred percent been perfect, but she's growing. That's my point. And while we're talking about people besides our Vegas trio, um, you wanna talk about Rico and his struggles this episode? Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So Rico is tasked with getting that baby ready for the viewing, yeah. Um but his wife is nine months pregnant and having a little bit of a complication. So, you know, he's he's he's taking it home, you know, and he's worried about his wife, he's worried about his unborn child, and now he has this deceased baby on his table, and he he's he's finding it very hard to separate the two.

SPEAKER_03

So like all throughout this episode, you see him like sit down to start working on the baby, and then you'll get a glimpse of like the baby's like feet and legs or the baby's hand, and then he has to get it. He has like the scalpel and he just can't, and he can't he can't do it. Yeah, and so you see him actually go back and forth like between scenes, like you see him there, then you see him at home or there, and at a doctor's appointment. It must have been three or four times before he sat down and actually like completed right his job, which that kind of sounds shitty the way that I phrased it, but when it comes down to it, like right, it really was completing a job.

SPEAKER_01

Right. And and you know, one thing that we've kind of seen when it comes to Rico is that he take he does take his job seriously and he doesn't slack off, he does his work, and he does good work, but he also mentions that ever since Rico became a father, that David does the babies. And so now with them gone, this is the first one that he's had to work on since he's become a dad, but it's like not only is he now a dad, but he's about to have a baby any minute, and by the end of the episode, he'll have it. So it's it's really really hitting close to home for him. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And so by the end of the episode, he was able to complete the job. The grieving parents and their parents were just so grateful for what Rico could do. And at the end of that episode, um, Rico's back, the Fishers are holding down things with the grieving family, and he's able to go to be by his wife's side because she's going into labor.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but she's because she's saying that something doesn't feel right, and so they bring her in for a c-section.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, an emergency c section, you're right.

SPEAKER_03

And um, as they are like doing their thing, the doctors they realize that um the umbilical cords around the baby's neck.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

And so the baby hasn't been breathing. Now that can lead to so many issues if the baby survives, but you see like Rico just like, holy shit. They take they immediately like clip the baby, they get it untangled, but then like the baby's not breathing. He sees the doctors start checking their watch for the time to like declare the time of death, and all of a sudden you like what just when you think that the doctors are gonna tell them that the baby's dead, you hear a baby cry. And like he has this like big relief, and I don't even think Vanessa was realizing what was going on because she didn't have the reactions like he did, but yeah, it almost came full circle for Rico, and so I feel like he like really learned like how precious everything is. Not that he never took it that way, but I don't know. It it just kind of rubbed me the wrong way at the end of the episode, like his view of life and death. It towards the beginning of the season, he was very much like, death is like whatever, but like it's so cool, like facial reconstruction, like even that the woman whose face got slammed on the bus, like he was so into like there was no humanity in that person for him, it was a job towards the end of the season. Now we're seeing him very much take his patience, or not his patience, but like his jobs, right? And he's looking at them like people instead of just things to work on and get done. Um that woman, by the way, comes back in this episode who got her face hit. She not on the bus, I'm sorry. She stuck her head out the line. Oh, the limo, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And she slammed it into like one of those like worker buckets or something, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like the the con edison boots that go up to like fix the lampposts and shit. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

People outside of New York City would be like, what's the con edison?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you know, I I say con edison to Jeff a lot, and he's like, What are you talking about? And I'm like, oh, that's not like your monopoly, like uh electrical company. Yeah, yeah, you're right. There are different ones out here now. But con ed. Yeah, right?

SPEAKER_01

Because because con ed is a sh is a shorthand anyway, it's like an abbreviation. Yeah. Consolidated Edison.

SPEAKER_03

What consolidated is the first word? I'm pretty sure. I mean, I knew Con Ed was like con Edison, but I didn't know what the con part was.

SPEAKER_00

Ew.

unknown

It doesn't sound right.

SPEAKER_03

It's like when you find out what like T D and T D Banks that were, you're like, that doesn't feel right anymore. Like the D is Dominion, and I'm like, that's that's such a crazy word. Dimin well name, Dominion. It sounds scary, it sounds like a scary roller coaster. And then you trust them with your money. Yeah. Nothing against T D. I just think that's a wild name.

unknown

Dominion.

SPEAKER_02

Something Dominion. What is a T for? I forgot.

SPEAKER_03

Oh. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Consolidated Edison Company of New York.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Well, anyway. Yeah, it's it's just the It's a New York thing. If you get it.

SPEAKER_03

It's a power company. Yeah, it's nothing major. It's an electrical company. And everybody has them in their towns. And they have like those. It it kind of like has um like the ladder like fire trucks do, but like at the end of the ladder, they're able to-like the cherry picker.

SPEAKER_02

The cherry picker.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. The cherry picker bucket.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

I didn't know that. Learned so many things today. Okay. Okay. But yeah. That's the cherry picker buckets at the end. And so that's how like the electrical guys get up to like the post. Yeah. Fix the wires. So we have the power.

SPEAKER_01

We have the power. We got the power. Yeah. Well, that was the job that Rico left Fisher for to work on at um Gillardi. Yeah, him. Yeah. That was the job. Yeah. I forgot also. Yeah. But that was that was the one that he went to. Yeah. That he went to do over there. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

At their like um in and out service. At their fucking sweatshop. Yeah, you're right. It kind of was like a fix-em-up sweatshop. But we see that in Vegas. We're there. We're in Vegas. Yes. We covered everybody else's stories and now we are in Las Vegas.

SPEAKER_01

So anyway. When we get there, they are at like the table where you get your name tags and stuff. And so Brenda obviously was not invited, so she doesn't have a name tag. So she just picks one up and decides to be a person. And she's like, Oh, I'm either something or something. I don't even remember what she said. And she just grabs her name tag. Well, not her name tag, but her now name tag.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01

And they go. And they all you see is all these crazy coffins and just all this like funeral stuff. And it's like, okay. That's okay. Yeah, that's a lot.

SPEAKER_03

That's so many coffins. It was weird. It was very weird.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, some of them were like elaborate.

SPEAKER_03

Uh-huh. Like that one from episode two three, four, five, six. You remember they upcharged it by accident or they sold like a really expensive coffin for a little amount of money. Yes, yes. Yeah, like that coffin.

SPEAKER_01

But this one was like, didn't want to have like the last supper on it and Yeah. I mean.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Which, you know what I learned last night? Okay, so today is Saturday. Today is Saturday. Yes. It's the day before Easter. Last night I went to my first Passover Seder. Uh was not rage Jewish, but my boyfriend's family is, and I just I studied Jewish studies in school, so I kind of knew what was about to happen. Did not know as much as I knew. Like I knew there was something called like the like a Seder plate. And I knew there were like specific food items on this plate, and I was supposed to like s it was like a plate of symbolism, pretty much. I did not know you have to eat the things off this plate. So there's specific things on the plate that are supposed to represent like what the Jews went through. So like bitter herbs to represent like the bitter times. And there's supposed to be and the bitter herbs was like horseradish. Um there's like an egg on the plate. There's also like parsley on the plate. There was um like this apple walnut mixture on the plate that was supposed to also symbolize something. There's like a a like a shank or like a bone, which is supposed to symbolize like when they put like the blood on the door. Okay. A lot of like religious shit. So um sitting there at the Seder dinner, and my boyfriend's cousin is like um how do I say it without just flat out calling him a douche or a dick? Uh, I think you already did. Yeah, I mean he's he's nice to me, but I could tell, like, I would not want to date him at all. He's a bro. He's bro, he's bruh. Yeah, no, it if his name wasn't what it was, it would probably be like a Chad. Yeah. So he he's very much like a finance bro, like a finance bro. So um he says some shit like yeah, Passover dinner was actually uh like no this the scene from like Holy Thursday or Good Friday, like that scene is actually like the the satyr before like Jesus' death. Okay. But that was like that was like the Jews being Jews, and it's like something that like Christians like look at and they should Yeah. Everybody thinks everything. Yeah, the last supper, that supper was their Passover Seder. Whoa. It's like two worlds combined. I don't know. I was my mind was blown last night. I'm like, I have these bitter herbs in my mouth, like they're putting gefilter fish in front of me, and I'm like, Did you eat it? Yes, I did. Okay, no, that's the thing. That's the thing. I always thought it looked like boogers. My dad used to eat it out of the jar because my dad's father was Jewish, so I I grew up with like some traditions, but he pinched it.

SPEAKER_01

You guys can't see my face right now, that's probably for the best.

SPEAKER_03

The face is pinched up, like Amanda Wilkinson's if anybody has read because of Wendyxie, but anyway, so it yes, like it looks gross, but the way that his mom prepared it was that she like took all like the the gelatinized jelly off of it, and then she put it in the oven with like celery and like carrots, and by the time they got on the plate, there was no jelly on it, it was just a little spongy, but it reminded like what did I tell my boyfriend's sister-in-law? Because she's pregnant, she was afraid to eat it, she's never eaten it before. Um, it tasted like kind of like a matzo ball. I like matzo balls. Me too. I I had matzo ball last night, I have it in my refrigerator right now. It's just like it was that same texture, it kind of tastes like a little bit yeasty, like a matzo ball, like bready, not fishy at all, no fish flavor at all. And they had like horseradish, like um, like pickled horseradish on the side.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not eating it.

SPEAKER_03

It it wasn't bad. That's the thing. Like, I've been skeeved out by this for so many years because it looks so nasty, but the way that his mom prepared it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because I still wouldn't have eaten it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I like ate a little bit off of Jeff's plate. I was like, let me try just a little bit because I'm really curious right now, and I'm also like I just ate bitter herbs and that's it. I need food. I I can't wait any longer. We had to read out of this book. We went around the table and read different passages. Of course, I get to the ones with things that I can't pronounce. They're singing, I can't follow along because I like don't know Hebrew that well, and like I was just struggling. I'm like, I just want to eat. And so I tried a little bit of his fish, and I was like, This is not so bad. You wanna go grab me one? And then, like, whatever I don't eat, you can eat. And he was like, Yeah, I like gefilter fish. I was like, Okay, I kiss you, I can't believe this. And um, yeah, no, it really was not bad. I will only eat his mom's gefilter fish, and I hope she takes that as like the biggest compliment ever because she should. Yeah. Anyway, Last Supper was just their Passover Seder.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I I just I thought that was so crazy.

SPEAKER_01

So anyway, the Last Supper was on the coffin. Yeah, those those coffins were elaborate to say the least. They were. Nate passes Gillardi in the in the hallway, and does it he like gives him a lighter and he's like here like for next time or something. Yeah. That was funny though.

SPEAKER_03

Um, yeah, he gives him matches and lighter fluid money. And it brings drinks.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Um I I have a note, it says Brenda loves artificial Vegas. Yeah, like the Apple Tower, and like I mean all that bullshit. I've been to Vegas a few times. It's a fun city. I'm not a huge gambler. I mean, I'm uh like a drink, but I'm not a huge drinker. But listen, when you go to Vegas, it's like the equivalent of being 10 years old at the playground. You just go with it. You know what I mean? You're in Vegas and you just have fun. That's a good way of putting it. Like, that's it. Just enjoy it. Like, we know that this is not real life.

SPEAKER_02

We know that we're gonna leave and go back to our chores and stuff, but what happens in Vegas days and yeah, like while you're here, just have fun.

SPEAKER_01

You walk around the street with your drink, you get on a fucking bus with your drink. Really? Yeah, just no glasses. Well, it I don't know, maybe it's different now, but like it it can't be. It can't be like a sippy cup type bull. That's what I meant. Yeah, yeah. Interesting. Yeah, I mean, I haven't been there post-pandemic.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. But I mean I mean, my only taste of that lifestyle was going to Atlantic City. Okay, and that's the thing because I picture Atlantic City like a small piece of Vegas, and I remember being in Atlantic City and just being like, like I at the time I w I had like been smoking cigarettes, like that was a disgusting like habit I was participating in. That's that's what I mean. Like it's it smelled like smoke. I was repulsed, and I was a smoker, and I was repulsed, and like it just was like it's not even like we were in a rundown casino, but it just felt run down and old, and I was like, we don't belong here.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the thing is is that excuse me in Atlantic City, it's more so about the casinos, like the gambling, like the actual like I'm here to get money, yeah, and and then you have like the boardwalk, you have the casinos, you have the restaurants, but then that's about it because everything else is shit. Yeah, in Vegas, it's all fucking amusement time because like you see, the hotels all have like their gimmicks, like there's the fountains, there's the gondola rides, you know, like so it doesn't matter, like, and they're all very themed, and I mean you have the whole strip, and it's just like there's an amusement park at the top of the Stratosphere Hotel. You're right about that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I remember being a kid and like watching that video of like that roller coaster that goes like goes around and like the jump off of it.

SPEAKER_01

I couldn't ride the roller coaster because it was too windy, but we rode the other rides, and then there's like the teeter top. Yeah, we only did that. Alex didn't want that? Yeah, shut the fuck up. Alex didn't want to sit in the front. I was like, do you think that the back is not gonna like fly off the side of the building?

SPEAKER_03

If it's a good idea, it would be for you that you were able to do that because like there used to be like five, six rides up there, and they shut down like three of them. So like I don't even know if that's and then they had like the it was like a claw, but it came like out from the building and it like spun it. You were in like a like a swing and you spun around.

SPEAKER_01

This is so fucking cool. But the my funniest part is just that that one that it like teeters and then it slides down. Yeah, that was a good one. I was like, Fucking Alex. If this if this ride goes south, the back is not safe. I mean, nowhere's safe. We're all going off the side of the place.

SPEAKER_03

What did it feel like just to divert a little bit more?

SPEAKER_01

It was fun, it was scary as fuck, but it's fun. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

And with the roller coaster, because it was hot like higher, I mean not that much higher, but like higher than the other rides. It was too windy the day that we went. So they wouldn't let us, they wouldn't let anybody get on.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but and then there's like an option where you can like jump off of the side of the building and go all the way down. I don't know if that was a thing when you I don't I've seen it on YouTube.

SPEAKER_01

Sure. It might have been, but we didn't do it.

SPEAKER_03

Wow. That's that's so cool that you did that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. That's what I'm saying. It's like an it's like a big giant amusement park for kids, like for grown-ups. There's more to do there than Atlantic City. Like if you're in Atlantic City and you don't gamble, and you don't have like a shit ton of money to spend at like the eateries, what are you there to do? Yeah. But in Vegas, like you can legit walk up and down the strip and just people watch and go and like go walk around. That's what we did. Yeah, we walked around like through the hotels and um we got our wedding rings in Caesars Palace. But it's like this whole like beautiful scene, like in the hotel, and like we went to the shops there, and you know, they're all just so much more elaborate. So it's fun. We went to like the rooftop bars. That's cool. We met fun. We met uh Marlon Wayne on an elevator before the whole beanie baby incident. Oh, you don't know about the beanie baby incident? I don't know anything about what you just said.

SPEAKER_03

When you were like in the elevator, have no clue.

SPEAKER_01

What? Who's Marlon the Wayne? Oh my god, the Wayne's brothers? Oh shit, I didn't realize it. Well, it was Sean and Marlon, but um, there's a show called To Tell the Truth. Okay. It's it's a remake of an older show, but the newer one has Anthony Anderson as a host, and basically the premise is um some celebrities go on, they're on the panel, and then they have three people, um, but only one of them is telling the truth about whatever they're there to talk about. Oh, so like two truths and a lie, kind of two lies and a truth.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like a similar concept for that. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. And so then the celebrities get to ask them questions, and the celebrities have to figure out who's telling the truth. And that's it. So this guy goes on, the the panel was talking about like who has it's something like the biggest beanie baby collection. You have a ghost.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's weird.

SPEAKER_01

Um, something about like who has like a biggest beanie baby collection, and blah blah blah, right? So whatever. So Marlon Waines was one of the celebrity contestants, um, you know, people, whatever. Um they passed around the beanie baby, and like one of them it was like a very rare one, so it was worth I don't know, like ten thousand dollars or something like that.

SPEAKER_02

Plastic around the tag and something like that. Uh-oh. And you know what he did? Did he say, Why's the tag still on this? Basically.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

He ripped the tag off. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

You see? And then that's common sense. You don't have to do that. And then everybody was like, And he was like, What? Like he Why did he do that? He he couldn't grasp like what just happened. Um and everybody was like, oh my god, and because basically he was like, Oh, if if I do this, like let me see who reacts.

SPEAKER_02

He thought it was funny.

SPEAKER_01

I guess.

SPEAKER_02

How okay?

SPEAKER_03

How does anybody who's been alive not know before the year? Marla Wayne is older than me. No, but that's what I'm saying. If you were born in 2000 and any year before that, and you were still alive to this day, you you know. How do you not know that the tag is the whole point of the beanie baby? Like, I don't know why the tag is so important, but it is very important, and you know not to rip that tag off. And even if you didn't have a beanie baby ever, you know that. I was talking to Jeff about this recently. We were talking about like how it was so stupid that we all collected these stuffed animals and we thought they were gonna be expensive, like Furbies and all that bullshit like in the 90s, and so like we were talking about.

SPEAKER_01

I had a bunch of them from McDonald's. You remember like in the 90s? And they were still in the bag, and then my kids found them. Mm-hmm. And they took them out, they took them out of the bag so that they could play with them. I was like, drunk.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god, those are like worth it too, because we were talking about like witch beanie babies, and he was saying my boyfriend was talking about like how there was a specific like Pokemon one that came out, like a Pokemon themed one, and that one, like if it was made between the year like 1992 and 1994, it would be worth this much.

SPEAKER_01

Is that her right now? That's yeah, she's coloring Easter eggs. Oh, they just sent me a picture.

SPEAKER_03

She's wearing our sweatshirt. Oh yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Egg.

SPEAKER_02

I guess they didn't use the scooper, they just grabbed it with the hand. Oh, that's gonna be so much fun.

SPEAKER_03

I recommend nail polish remover to get the egg dye off, but I'm sure soap and water will work. It's made for kids. Anyway, yeah, it you should know the beanie baby tag is like ultra important.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. And so there was a whole thing, it's so funny because me and my friend the other day we were talking about it, and so then like we're looking up videos like whatever happened. Um the guy the guy ended up having to like sue the production company to get compensated because even though they basically told him like they would, they didn't, but then he ended up putting the money towards buying his mom a new car. And I was like, I felt so bad for that guy, but then I was like, he he truly made the best out of a bad situation, yeah. And like what sucks is that I grew up such a fan of like the Wayne's brothers. I mean, you had like all the movies, you had The Living Color, you had um the show, like I was such a fan, and like to hear Marlon Waynes talk about like the incident afterwards, and he was just like so like whatever about it.

SPEAKER_03

I was like, Oh come on, you have white checks, but I just wanted to double check that it was them and white checks, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god, Jeff was here, but like be a little bit more remorseful, like you've really you fucked up, and like okay, maybe ten fifteen thousand dollars is not like you know a big deal for you, but like for that guy, it probably is, yeah, you know, I mean and that's the shitty thing, like once he realized what he did wrong, it's not like they don't have that type of money.

SPEAKER_03

Exactly, they have a lot of money, right? He should have been like, bro, like I'm so sorry. Like, let me give you like let's let's you know what right let how let me make this. Yeah, right? Kelly Blue book for beanie book for beanie babies, yeah. And then let's like figure out how much yeah this beanie baby is worth and let me pay you that money because I'm ignorant and stupid and I thought and just like apologize, uh but then he just kind of was like so like whatever about it.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, oh come on, Marlowe Wayne's. I hurt you by heart, like I loved you my whole life. Like don't don't make me not like you because of some stupid beanie baby. Damn, but anyway, I think Vegas.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well, living in one brother's shadow, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I guess the I guess we have to just like the other Wayne's now.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Speaking of other brothers, speaking of other brothers living in their shadow. Um, while Brenda is exploring all of artificial Vegas that I need to explore with Nate, not me with Nate, but her with Nate.

SPEAKER_01

We see billions. I thought you meant that too.

SPEAKER_03

No, no, it's okay. I'm cool. I don't need his sideburns, but like Brenda's sidebar those right triangles. What the hell?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we'll get into that. Alright. But we see just go watch the episode and like just pause on his sidebarns for one minute if you need a laugh.

SPEAKER_03

And get out your protractor and make sure that's 90 degrees.

SPEAKER_01

I'm pretty sure it's 90 degrees. Anyway. His his sidebars are shaped like a wedge.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_03

Ew, what if like Nate is the one that's driving the wedge between that relationship, between the Billy Benda? That's what I mean. What if it's Nate the whole time and that was the symbolism? Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

Then we caught it and we still missed it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. That's ew. Oh my god. Fucking hold the door open with his head.

SPEAKER_01

Ew.

SPEAKER_03

But basically, Billy be lurkin.

SPEAKER_01

Um, he's just like creeping up behind them in the shadows.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and so that kind of like blows up later on. Um, but I'm pretty sure first there is a talk that David does.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so he okay, because because Fisher Sr. Yes, always gave the like keynote speech or whatever, and so now since he's gone, David was going to give it. And so David was nervous, and when you see David talking, there's like a few people in the audience, some of them are sleeping, the Galardis are like just sitting in the front row, too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like just all like rude and disrespectful. And David has like these index cards that he's reading off of. And then David, you know, gotta be like David, and he's like, I think he literally says, like, screw this or fuck this, and he throws the index card, and then he starts going off, giving like his passionate speech.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but it was a good speech. Like he talked about how his dad felt about the industry, how even though it's a business, like the people come first, and the the big companies hint hint Gillardi, you know, just don't have that. And I thought it was very good. I thought it was very nice to see that side of David, like there was humanity in that speech.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was almost as if this is where he expended all of his energy, and then later on in the night he had to go recharge.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, and so we see David being like the icon here. Yes, because the people loved his speech. So, like a group of guys that were like, Oh, we're gonna take you out, you're a rock star. Yeah, Nate and Brenda were like, No, you go do you, we're we're we're good. We're gonna go back to the casino. Yeah, they they so they took him to a strip club, bought him a lap dance, yeah, and the girl's like, um, so he tells her, and then she announces it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like she was like, Um, I know it's not me. And he's like, It's not you, I'm just gay, and like, or he's like, I'm not into women or something like that. And so she was like, Well, if it's okay with both of us, Queen, um I'm going to finish early. And he's like, Yeah, please. And so, like, she still gets paid for the full time, but she only does half the job. Like, let's go.

SPEAKER_01

And I mean, it's probably the best case scenario, right? Like, you can still have to do it the whole time.

SPEAKER_03

You don't have him like all grabby and inappropriate, like it was very kind of her to suggest ending it instead of having him like endure that. Yeah, and so one of the guys who like I guess the guy who bought the lap dance, or one of the guys who were there, um, made a comment how like that was so short. Like, did you were you satisfied in a short amount of time or some bullshit like that? And like that um like dancer or like stripper, like whatever the appropriate word is to use for her, um, she comes up behind David and she's like, No, you bag of fucking tools, he's gay. Yeah, and and David was just like, I need to go home. Uh-huh. Yeah, and he leaves the strip club, and that's where David spirals. Yeah. He was at such a high. Yeah, and then he went downhill.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he he finds like one of those like sleazy magazine newsletter, newspaper, like. Like 1-800 dick, please, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, basically, and calls the number for a guy, the guy shows up and Which is kind of like a reference to the beginning of this episode because David's like, You're not the guy from the magazine. And then the guy says something like, We're not all what we seem to be. Yeah, yeah. Which is a reference to what David said to like or Jim said in the beginning of the episode.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Because he uses he uses his name Jim again.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01

And then he's like, Well, I'm not taking you back to my hotel room.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01

Because the guy's like, Well, where do you want to do this? Yeah. Until you find like a garage or parking lot or whatever. Yeah, like an alleyway, some bullshit like that. Yeah, and of course, they are interrupted by the police.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but he gets busted.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And David gets one call on the police station, guess who he calls? I didn't see that coming.

SPEAKER_02

I thought he was gonna call Claire.

SPEAKER_01

That's what I thought too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But then again, Claire is not 18. So I thought that at first, but then I was like, well, that makes sense that he couldn't call her. But yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

He calls Keith. Good old Keith, we haven't seen him in a while. I know. Yeah. And Keith is so disappointed in him, especially that he alludes, like, did you use a condom? And when David doesn't answer, he's like, Like, seriously? Like. Yeah. And he's right.

SPEAKER_03

He's absolutely right. There was a little bit of tension between them, like a little bit almost like sexual tension between them, or like emotional tension between them, where you think that like this is their moment where like they're gonna forget the past and rebuild themselves, and Keith tells David to like grow up, get your shit together, because this is the last time I'm seeing you. And David is just like stunned. Like, I thought they were gonna kiss for a minute. And Keith gets up and walks out, and David's still in the police station, and that was wild. I feel like that was actually the wake-up call David needed. I hope so. I hope so too. Yeah. But while this is going on, Brenda and Nate are in the casino.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And Brenda's having a fabulous old time sitting at the poker table telling this one guy that like she is so appreciative for what he's doing, but she has a boyfriend, and guess who pulls up right at the table with her? Her brother. And he puts down some poker chips, she looks over, realizes that it's Billy, and she gets her chips and walks away, and she's like, You gotta be fucking kidding me. She says something along those lines. Billy runs after her, and that's when she actually confronts him about like the whole thing about what mom and dad told her. Yeah, he's like, What did mom and dad tell you? She's like, You were trying to make a bomb in the basement. Right. And he you see him in that moment trying to problem solve how he can get out of this. You see like the wheels turning.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I think he's he's it's like you said, like he's not used to her confronting him, not being on her side. Right. Because he's always just kind of had her wrapped around his finger, and now that she's uh pushing against it, it's like he he doesn't know like what to do with himself. Yeah. And what does he call himself? Uh Billy um who's the bomb guy?

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I forgot what he called himself.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Anyway, it's not important.

SPEAKER_02

But Billy McFay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And um, but Brenda, like him and Brenda are going at it. Nate stops the like, you know, gets in between with his wedge sideburns. Yeah, he and then that's it. Because like Brenda tells him, like, you're lying. Like, you didn't just happen to be here, you followed me.

SPEAKER_03

And she calls him a selfish, manipulative, narcissistic liar. Yeah. Which is wild for that to come out of Brenda's mouth towards her brother. We we haven't seen this before. No. She hasn't confronted him and said these things, and in the back of my head, look, I knew what was gonna happen after because I remembered from previous years watching the show what was gonna happen after, but I in the moment was like, Billy's gonna fucking kill you right here in this casino. But then I realized that's not how this episode happens. So I was just like, for Brenda like to know how fucked up her brother is, and then to just yell at him was so ballsy. Because like normally somebody's not like I know, but like normally when you know when somebody's not all together, you don't need to rile them up.

SPEAKER_01

But I think also from what I have seen and and what I gather, Brenda seems like the do first and think later type. Yeah, no, impulsive, yeah, she's very impulsive. So I get that because sometimes I find myself in situations where I'm like I shouldn't have done that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And Billy's trying to blame it on the fact that like he was so fucking drugged up, he doesn't even remember what happened. Yeah, and while they are arguing, after she calls him those names and tells him what he actually is, um, we see Nate start walking up behind them from like an aisle in the casino, and he pulls Billy off of Brenda because Brenda turns to walk away from Billy. Billy runs after her, and then that's when Nate sees all this and breaks him up. And um Billy pulls the unhinged Billy. Ooh, whoops, Nate pulls the unhinged Billy off of Brenda, tosses him down the aisle, says fucked off, and Brenda's just like, I can't believe he followed us here. And Nate's like, honestly, I I saw this coming, but in like a very like soothing way, yeah. Brenda, not like in a condescending, like I thought you so right, but with that, um Nate like is very appreciative towards Nate and says, like, you were really greedy today.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that Nate is appreciative towards Nate. I mean it probably is. Did I say that?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I'm thinking about the sideburns. I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_01

The sideburns.

SPEAKER_03

Brenda's really appreciative. Um, and so they're just like, whatever, fuck this. We're still here, let's have a good time. They take out the disposable camera, they're still taking pictures.

SPEAKER_01

Well then this comes back. Yeah, because then like they get home. Well, first of all, the next morning, David kind of like throws himself in the car, and they're like, Oh, we we called your room last night, blah blah blah. He's like, Oh yeah, or what something like that. He's like, Oh, I must have been sleeping or showering or something. But like he doesn't tell them anything about what happened because they're like, Oh, you had some rough night, and he's like, Yeah, but they they must think that he's just like hungover or whatever. They get home, and then you see Nate and Brenda looking at the photos that they took, and the last two pictures like they had the disposable camera like developed, right? And so they were like flipping through those photos in the last two pictures because way back when we didn't take pictures with our phones, we actually had to have cameras.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you know what? Actually, I think the children of today and the generations of today understand this because disposable cameras recently came back. So we do want to Yeah, like people use them at their weddings now, and should I use them at my wedding. No, I know, but people use them at their weddings again now. Oh yeah, like I was recently, and by recently I mean within like the last year or two, like at um like a get together, and one of my boyfriend's friends was like passing around a disposable camera, and I was like, that's a disposable camera, you gotta crank it before you take a picture.

SPEAKER_01

That's crazy. Yeah, well, because it was an easy way back then for you to have pic more pictures, you know. We we put one on every table and then you just collect them after. A lot of the pictures were shit, to be honest.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but then you get like those really good candid ones, or photos. Something more fun. You wouldn't have been able to take on your own or days like hire like all these different photographers to take like people go crazy.

SPEAKER_01

But now we're in the future, so like after Nalenza's party, I just like reached out to everyone and was like, hey, just send me all the pictures you took, and then boom, text message, email. I got all the pictures. Wow. It was great. Wow. So much easier.

SPEAKER_03

And it would have been really great if you put up a sign like please airdrop your pictures to me before you leave. You know, well go and cover it.

SPEAKER_01

We did make a hashtag and we put the little thing on the table, but I think a lot of people didn't realize what to do with it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Older. But yeah, whatever. It's okay. Um But yeah, so as they're they get the pictures developed and as they're looking at them, the last two pictures are pictures of them too sleeping. Like they're bread spooning, sleeping, like normal couples do. Like they they did not take those pictures and disposable cameras did not have timers on them.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-mm.

SPEAKER_01

So somebody had to have taken those pictures.

SPEAKER_03

And Brenda yells, oh fuck, Billy, and she starts crying, and she knows that at this point she needs to face him. And Nate is willing to force this issue. Yeah. Which is wild. And that's kind of like how their story ends for this episode. That's kind of how everybody's story ends for this episode. Yeah. Yeah. It is truly wild. Uh Billy's story.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So who was your gravedigger of the week?

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_03

David for sure. Yeah. Yeah. No. I mean, look, he was amazing the way that he did his speech, but at the same time, like, he just did what he was supposed to do. I don't I feel like I really shouldn't give him credit for doing what he's supposed to do.

SPEAKER_01

My gravedigger of the week was Claire up until David hit hit up uh met up with that hooker.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's what I mean. Like he met up with the hooker. Like no, you just hit the number one spot. But it was even the way that he like handled the beginning of like everything the beginning of the show, like he he didn't even fucking clean up from the night before. And like and David seems like the fact that's very particular about things. That's what I mean. Like he's he was getting sloppy. It really showed in the beginning of the episode how sloppy he is. And that's why he's been my brain picker.

SPEAKER_01

That okay, hold on to that thought, right? Because I know you saw my note that it says like the street-facing side of the house. Yeah. Okay. So one thing that I noticed is that when you see the house from the front, like where the customers walk in, the windows are like ornate, the porch is beautiful, everything is very like you look at that and you're like, damn, like how much does that house cost, right? Yeah, but then when you see the back, like where David lives and where like the cars go, it's dingy. So you're saying the the house is like a facade. Like I feel like it's it's a metaphor because what they project to people is like they got their shit together. But then when you go behind that to where they live metaphorically and physically, it's not, it it needs some work, and I think that that's kind of like along the same lines as David falling apart, like he's not putting the work in his his shit is falling apart just like the side of his house. Yeah, you know, it's and it's not it's really not falling apart, it's just when you compare that part of the house to the front of the house, like it just looks so different, like you wouldn't even realize it's the same house.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, wow, that's actually something amazing that you pointed out.

SPEAKER_01

Well, thank you.

SPEAKER_03

You're welcome. Yeah, it really is so true. And now, um, we have a couple things to go back to. Uh, your quote of the week.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. My quote of the week is Rico when he said, How can the beginning and the end be so close together?

SPEAKER_02

Ouch. I know, right? And that's a big ouch.

SPEAKER_03

That was like made my heart like have some pain. It really just makes you think about when any kind of chapter in your life is closing. It's so fragile. It is. Because although it may seem like so much time passed by, like it has just gone so fast at the same time. Like, really dumb and silly, but like graduation, like whether you were in high school or college or even when you're younger, like I'm sure like watching your kids graduate elementary school, you were just like the beginning and the end were so close together, like their time just flew by, and all of a sudden now they're going off to middle school. So it's like a it's a quote from Rico that you can definitely apply in so many different aspects of life, and that's what hurts the most. That like anybody can take this quote and then apply it to something that they've experienced. Yeah. And they could feel like what the viewer just feels about.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because you can definitely relate, but then when you hold it in the context of a baby. Yeah. Ugh. That's like the saddest. Yeah, that was rough.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

It really was. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And on my quote of the week, uh, to go back to it, what Nate said to Brendan in the beginning of the episode. Um, and let me just pull up this quote because I don't want to fuck it up. He said, Sorry, I'm scrolling. He said, You're going to have to face him sometime. In response to like Billy's consistent voicemails. Yeah. Um It was just the like this this episode really could have been called like facing your demons. Because Face It. Yeah, Ruka had to face a lot of things in this episode. Claire had to face a lot of things in this episode. I mean this this episode is where she found out we're Gabe went. Right. Right?

SPEAKER_01

And it was it was speed and heroin. Yes. Speed and heroine.

SPEAKER_03

Bless you. Thank you. And so I all the characters in this episode had to face like these big things that happened to them. And so I really feel like that quote um like really describes what was going on this whole episode. And it kind of foreshadowed everything that was going to happen in this episode. Especially like the roller coaster of what's going to happen with Billy Nate and Brenda. Which I'm so excited for you to watch episode 12. Oh my god. So excited. We may have to watch it tonight. We may have to go get that new Mexican or Tex-Mex food from the place across the street from me now. And we may have to bring it back here to watch episode 12. I'm just saying. I have Mezcal and tequila in here, so we can make our own like smoky margaritas. Oh. I'm just saying. And I'm sure you guys are just about to like close this podcast and head over to episode 12 because it's it's crazy.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but we didn't record it yet. I know.

SPEAKER_02

We have to do that soon because now I really want to watch it.

SPEAKER_03

I wonder what people do when they listen to our podcasts. Like, do they listen first, then watch? Do they only listen because they've like watched the whole series before and they're reminiscing? Do they do they watch and then listen?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's a good question.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I'm really curious because um to shout out a really, really great podcast um from the creators like from the podcast creators Wondery, they have a podcast called Um Why Am I Spacing on the Name now? Whoa. I listen to it every Monday morning, like on my way to work. It's great. It's called The Rewatcher. And it's all about um it's like uh Buffy the Vampire Slayer like series, like podcast series. So it's called The Rewatcher, like how the watchers, like how um Giles is the watcher and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You've seen it, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Okay, well it goes they've I've seen enough, but like when it was on originally, I don't really remember too much of it. Well, you know that old movie that was with like Because I remember I went to the movie theater to like see the movie with the Luke Perry. No, I know my god. The movie had Luke characters, like I know, I know, because and then they had the show and I was like, oh my god, but then Luke Perry wasn't in it, and I was like, Oh, okay. But you have Sarah Michelle Geller, yeah, no, I think and then like Alex used to watch it because it was Sarah Michelle Geller, and then there was Angel, and I was like, Oh David Loriana is so funny. He can go fuck himself for you. Oh, why?

SPEAKER_03

Oh no, just because his character is so weak. Oh, I didn't realize how weak his character was. I watched the series when I was like in high school and like now processing like what's going on in the show as an adult, I'm like, what the fuck is that series? I mean I really liked him in Bones, but okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and then I mean like even after Buffy they had the spin-off of Angel, but I Well that right, that's what I mean.

SPEAKER_01

But like yeah, so I I watched it here and there, but not enough to like remember very much of it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I was like obsessed with it in high school and like excuse me. And then after um, you know, after they took out the CD drive and all computers, and I couldn't watch the DVDs anymore on my computer, um, they ended up putting it on Hulu. So I I like at the time when I was watching it on Hulu, I didn't pay for my Hulu, and so I was just it was at that time where you can like watch Hulu and there are ads, but you don't have to pay for that. And so I was watching the episodes, commercials would come on, I was like, fuck this. The first time I watched it, there weren't any commercials, so I didn't experience what everybody experienced when they watched the series on TV. Anyway, I kind of remember some episodes. I definitely remember how the show ended, and I just remember like loving the series because it was like so good. And I I liked how it included vampires, but not like the typical way of like when I was in high school, that's when like the Twilight movies came out. So definitely wasn't into that. Vampire diaries came out when I was in high school, definitely wasn't into that, and so I just kind of liked the the spin on like the vampire um narrative. So in the Rewatcher, they watched the episode. One person has seen it before, one person hasn't, like, just like us.

SPEAKER_01

I sense the theme here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, there's a theme here, and um, and then they talk about like the episode and they go over it's pretty much like the same as our podcast, only for Buffy the Mamplain Slayer. And um, they actually have a really good like murder podcast that they both came from, and this is like their little side thing, I forgot what it's called, but um, but I know for a fact that like the original because like I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I hope so because I don't like I've never heard of them before, so I clearly didn't steal their idea, but okay.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's it's very good, but like me as the listener, like being in the listener position, not the recorder position, I'm not watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer anymore. Like, I I'm not going back trying to find it. I'm not watching clips on YouTube, I'm only listening to the episodes, and then I'm being like, oh shit, yeah, I remember that from like 10-15 years ago. So the I wonder if our viewers are doing the same thing.

SPEAKER_01

I the only the only podcast that I listen to as of now, because I I have another one, but um that like I intend to, I just I just haven't yet, is um Office Ladies. Okay I've seen The Office like 5,000 times. Oh, it's about the office? Yes, but it's but it's made by Jenna Fisher and Angela Kinsey. Stop! Yes, oh that's so cool. And so like what's really cool is that about the office by people who were there, yeah. So they have a lot of like little tidbits, they'll like tell you parts that were improv or things that should have been in the script but weren't but didn't make it.

SPEAKER_03

But you're not going back and rewatching the episodes before or after, right?

SPEAKER_01

Uh no, I do. Oh, okay. So then so then sometimes they'll say like, oh, if if you catch at like this moment, you can see so-and-so break, and you can see like on the board, this is what it said, or like Angela will be like, Oh, Oscar used to draw me post-its, and you can see the post-its. So a lot of times when I'm you want to go find the Easter egg. Yes, yeah so as I'm listening, like I'll listen to some of like I'll listen to the episode on the podcast, and then but then like if they get to something where it's like, oh, and then at this time, like you could see blah blah blah, and then I'm like, pause, and then I'll start watching the episode and I'll like watch with a part, and then I'm like, oh, I saw it, or you know, whatever. And then like I go back to so like I've seen the episodes, like if you tell me what episode, I already know the episode, I'm very familiar with it, but to hear something new like that about who's breaking and go back and watch it, or or like in this episode, did you see so-and-so? That's actually so-and-so, yeah, you know, or whatever. So it brings a new perspective, so then I want to see it. I wanna well that's setting you up to want to watch it after, right? Right, but there's a lot to they're making you do something pretty much, and so like in in that instance, like in that podcast, in one episode, there might be like three or four things to catch, and so with my like you know, squirrel brain, yeah, it's like I don't remember. So I I just do it like that. Like a lot of times I'll just have like the iPad, whatever, and then while I'm listening, and then it's like if I can't get to it, then like I'll just I'll just wait. Because otherwise I know that I forget, and then like when I go back, it's like oh shit, I forgot to whatever. Yeah, but in the most part, I feel like I'm the type of person who would watch the episode and then listen to the episode, yeah. Because most people who do this do analysis, and so then it's like you're giving away the entire thing, right? If you listen first, it's like you don't really understand what's going on, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Although I do understand, like, especially with this show, um, I remember watching it like as an adult for the first time, and knowing that, like, hey, like something really fucked up is gonna happen in the beginning of every episode, especially with that meat grinder one. When I saw that one as an adult, I was just like, I knew something was gonna happen, didn't know how gory it was gonna get, and I was afraid to skip over it, and I I would kind of be like, I would have been really happy listening to a podcast about it before going into the episode, so that's why I could be warned, but then know, like, hey, this is gonna happen, it's really influential for what's gonna happen later on. Like, now I want to watch it and like see those things. So it would have been nice to have the podcast beforehand and then watch it after. For some people, it's nice to watch the episode before and listen to the podcast after as like a reflection. And then there are people like me with the Rewatcher who I don't plan on watching Buffy again just because I don't have like Hulu at the moment, and I don't plan on getting Hulu at the moment, and like I just don't feel like watching the whole series again, but I loved it so much, and I just want to like revert back to that, especially like in my commute, yeah. Right. So it's just really cool to hear like and then like it's like two sisters, so the older sister, like, she watched it like when it actually came out, and so she was like talking about like the suspense over like this commercial break. Oh my god. I remember like her and her friends would like pick one guy in the show for that to be their like quote unquote boyfriend, and so she's like my quote unquote boyfriend was like Spike, but my friends was like Angel, and then my other ones was like Xander, and I'm like, oh my god, oh my god. Yeah, and so and then I don't remember who Xander is. I remember Xander was like the the best friend, like in the trio, it was like Buffy, Willow, and Xander. Oh, okay, okay, okay.

SPEAKER_01

Because I remember Sp I'm obviously Angel, I remember Spike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and then Willow Giles, aka Tweed Magic, they call him. Uh huh. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, the the British watcher. But okay, yeah. It it really brings me back to a time where things were simpler, and I was sitting down with my laptop open, fake sick, staying home from school, watching Buffy see.

SPEAKER_02

Your teachers are gonna hear this and be like, I knew she wasn't sick.

SPEAKER_03

I did good in high school. I just was kidding. You're right.

SPEAKER_02

And so um your teachers are listening to this, then they should be teachers.

SPEAKER_03

I didn't even own the DVDs. My friend would like open up my locker, put the DVD set in my locker, and then like because we didn't really see each other throughout the day, so then at the end of the day, I would go to my locker, there would be a new box set, and I'm like, oh my god, it's a gift, and I would take it home and just like be sick for like the next couple days. It was great, it was a great time, and so I like that, and so I don't know if this show is six feet under has any like special meaning for anybody, or like gives like that nostalgic feeling, like how I have tobacco, and so it would be really cool to know like what our viewers do, or how our viewers like or why in what way our viewers consume our podcast. There should be a little poll we put up somewhere. Okay, yeah, we'll figure out what platform's not gonna fail us, and then we'll put it on there. Yeah, and if you want to know all about that, definitely hop over to the pre-show, which is on our Patreon.

SPEAKER_00

Yay!

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the link should be available on our Instagram, and our Instagram handle, the the one that works, is uh well why am I blanking here? Our Instagram handle is just sass and sips, and yeah, you can find us there. Um, you know what? Come to think of it, I never actually updated the show notes. So they all still have the wrong ones. So that might be a problem. We got a task. Yeah, so I I gotta I gotta do that. But um, but yeah. Um, and anyway, you can go to assassinsips.com and that's our website, and like you can just find us over there.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And we both have new Instagram handles. Yours is the real sassy Lisa.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Mine's a real sassy brit.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm. Well, mine is Real Sassy Lisa because I think the other one was the and it it went down the toilet. It went down the hole.

SPEAKER_03

Oh no, not the hole.

SPEAKER_01

SPEAKER_03

SPEAKER_01

SPEAKER_03

SPEAKER_03

And yeah, we're we're gonna start rolling again. I mean, we are almost at the end of season one. It has 13 episodes. 14, 13, 13. I think I'm pretty sure 13. And then we have season two.

SPEAKER_02

Season two. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I'm very excited. I'm very excited to get back into this.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I've missed this a lot.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, me too. Me too.

SPEAKER_03

And over at our Patreon, maybe we will share like share podcasts with each other. Maybe we'll do like podcast reviews. We have so many options. Oh my god. You okay?

SPEAKER_01

That sounds fun. No, I was thinking about it. I thought you said something on your phone, I'm like, wait, shit, what?

SPEAKER_03

No, I'm no, because I want to know more about like the podcast that you're listening to because I realize we don't really talk about this. No, we don't. Yeah. And I've recently found lots of funny podcasts that I listen to. They're all like, they're all here. So I I have plenty of them. So I have things to talk about. Okay. Yeah. But for now, I'm Britney.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm Lisa. And thank you so much for listening. Yes. And you know, hopefully this little hiatus is uh one and done. But uh, we just also want to say thank you again for sticking around and for coming back to hang out with us, and uh, we appreciate you. So I'm gonna say my obligatory don't drink and drive, drink responsibly, and other than that, we're out of here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, please come meet us at episode twelve a private life. Oh my god, I sound okay.

SPEAKER_01

All right, we'll see you there. Bye, guys.
