Today we are talking about Temptation Island season one, episode two, single again. I'm Lisa and I'm sipping on a little red wine.
SPEAKER_00And I'm Mr. Lisa. And I'm sipping on whiskey.
SPEAKER_01As is usual for my nightly ritual.
SPEAKER_02Cheers all the way across the room.
SPEAKER_00Salute.
SPEAKER_02You got hot takes?
SPEAKER_00Hot takes. Um I think these people are out of their fucking mind.
SPEAKER_02Aside from that.
SPEAKER_00Oh Shari is uh she added to the uh craziness of who she is.
SPEAKER_02I have I have more thoughts on her.
SPEAKER_00I I think psychologists have a lot of thoughts on her.
SPEAKER_02I do have a degree in psych.
SPEAKER_00You do?
SPEAKER_02You know, I find I do find that aspect of this fascinating.
SPEAKER_00I have a degree on dealing with crazy women.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, you do. You have like a fucking PhD at this point. So maybe you should be like Dr. Mr. Lisa.
SPEAKER_00There you go. That'll be uh that'll be uh next week's episode.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Anything else?
SPEAKER_00I feel like the the confusion that these people are presenting and it just doesn't warrant why you would do this to yourself. Like, why? You're going on national television to not only possibly embarrass yourself, but uh someone that you're saying you're you're in love with.
SPEAKER_02I'm they're embarrassing themselves and they're embarrassing the boat. Like, don't they understand what Captain Lee tells them? Don't embarrass the Don't embarrass yourself and don't embarrass the boat.
SPEAKER_00Respect the boat.
SPEAKER_02Well, I will say when they had to pick dates, I that was cringy. Okay, that was cringy, but Nicole's remark was brilliant. Brilliant. Okay? And I'm gonna I'll we'll get to that. I mean, and then how does like um this dude, Evan, he's so awkward. How does he find himself in a mess with like three of women?
SPEAKER_00That was just uh that was just like I'm sorry, there's like that that toxic trait that some women have that you know they they s they you always find that one girl that needs to be at the forefront and and she and she'll and she'll she'll run over her own mother just to be liked or like sh I felt bad for him because he was so drunk he didn't even know what was happening. Like he he couldn't even comprehend you know to explain to his his date. He's he he was like stuttering and he was just like, I I don't even know. I don't even know. Yeah. Girls got together, they had a conversation about something, and the other girl backstab the other one and made it look like she was trying to do something. Mind you, she talked to half the guys at that party and was trying to get into how do you go from one guy saying, Oh, I I I don't know what to do with my hands, I just wanna. I mean, the poor boy ran.
SPEAKER_02He sure did.
SPEAKER_00And then you and then you're your so your quote unquote, I don't even know how they're best friends, like did they meet?
SPEAKER_02In the house. They're best friends in the house. Which is even worse because you don't know this person.
SPEAKER_00But I I mean, we've all seen that before, where you know, you you tell someone, oh, you know, oh, I I really like this guy, and then all of a sudden, she turns around and she starts flirting and all of a sudden that's the man of her dreams. Yep. It happens all the time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I mean, women don't have a lock on that though. Men do the same shit. I think it's just shit human behavior.
SPEAKER_00True. But I feel like I see it more, I see that more with with women than Really?
SPEAKER_02What they were fighting over you over there?
SPEAKER_00No, absolutely not. All right.
SPEAKER_02Well then you wouldn't then maybe you wouldn't see it with men because you're not in competition for another woman. Yeah, but I but I think that's that excuse, okay?
SPEAKER_00I look, I look at Do you look at them, yeah? I look at people's character. I look at you know, I people watch, you know. If you're in a bar, you can you can tell. Okay. If you see a guy talking to a girl, and then his friend comes like right behind and and starts trying to talk her up. That's Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But you're assuming that this behavior is only at the moment behavior because there's plenty, I'm sure that there's plenty of instances where somebody will tell somebody else, like, oh yeah, I'm into this person, and then that person starts making it their mission to like, you know, try to sneak in around the back. And that's that you know, that doesn't happen at a bar, that happens over time.
SPEAKER_00No, it happens, yeah, but it's it's more of I mean I stole you away. That's a that's a tale for another an another day.
SPEAKER_02I really didn't.
SPEAKER_00But I mean, somebody might have thought that.
SPEAKER_02Somebody definitely thought that. But that is not that is not the way.
SPEAKER_00So what are your what are your hot takes?
SPEAKER_02I told you Evan is the most awkward person to find himself in that mess. This chick's uh backhanded comment. Also, okay, so at first I was like, oh my god, that's so cringy that they have to pick the dates with their partner. So like they don't even get to speak to their partner, but they have to pick the dates. But then I was like at the end of the episode when they're watching the clip and it's like, do you want to watch it in private or do you want to share with the class? And it's like that's cringy too, because you've really put it in the middle of the year.
SPEAKER_00And then it's it's almost like it's almost like peer pressure because it's like I have to watch it, you know, I choose to watch it with you guys.
SPEAKER_02Right, not everybody else does. Right. It it it just creates Well, we're jumping, we're jumping ahead.
SPEAKER_00We're jumping ahead.
SPEAKER_02Okay, all right.
SPEAKER_00Let's rein it in.
SPEAKER_02All right. Yes, boss.
SPEAKER_00That's later.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay. All right, then episode over. The episode begins, and you know, you just see uh some like mm moseying around in the houses, and we find out that Javen's infidelities, yes, plural, were in college. Catherine is still flirting with John. So then, okay, they come together, and the men have an opportunity to pick their dates, and the women have an opportunity to pick their dates, but they're all the singles are lined up, and then the women's chairs are on kind of like one side, the men's chairs are on the other side, and now they're watching their mate pick a date. And uh John what I forgot what her name was, and somehow I didn't write it down.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, you want me to remember names? Okay, well you should know better than that.
SPEAKER_02I I apologize. You can punish me later.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02Uh so John picks somebody. Uh I don't remember who he picks. Jabin picks Kayla, Evan picks Britney, Casey picks Carlos, Shari picks James, Nicole picks Tyler, and Katie picks Johnny. And the reason that I I found Nicole's remark, I'm sorry, just like Chef's kiss, is because it wasn't necessarily an insult, except they all took it that way.
SPEAKER_00Can you tell everyone in the class what she says?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm getting to that. Oh he picks Sheldon, and I feel like they were kind of similar, but Nicole says, Oh, he I guess he picks somebody who doesn't look like me so that he won't be attracted to them. And maybe that's not exactly verbatim because I've been that is partaking of just a tad, but but basically, right, in the nicest way, it was like, well, maybe he just doesn't she didn't say she wasn't pretty or attractive or anything. She just said he she don't look like me, so he won't be attracted to her.
SPEAKER_00It comes off as that.
SPEAKER_02But it comes off as an insult, but it really wasn't anything bad, and I was like, it's fucking brilliant. And I I wish I was that quick and witty. While they are so after the date picking, they go back to their respective houses. And I found this to be kind of weird because they're they have to get up in the morning to go on their date, but now they're just still kind of like hanging out in the house with their date and then everyone else.
SPEAKER_00I mean, and I know it's it's for the show, but like you're it should have been like a all right, you picked your dates, um now everyone goes into their respective corner, and you know, you get ready for the morning. You have to be up, I'm I'm assuming very early, especially at 6 a.m. So the fact that you bring them back to the house to drink, and you know, it's it's you're pushing the you are pushing that you want what you're getting. Yeah. You want the drama, you want the alcohol-induced mistakes, you want like you want the slip-ups so you can get, you know, your material for the bonfire, apparently.
SPEAKER_02And I feel like because at that point, it looks like it's less about the dates and more about the drama, because if it was just about like, okay, let's actually see if these people are gonna find connection with each other, I feel like you would cut out that middle part the choice and the date. Like, yeah, you can all write back to the house. You know, maybe it's already very late, so like the incentive is, oh, we gotta get to bed. Like, we have to get up early. So like you can have like a small little interaction, like, oh, like thanks for choosing me, blah, blah, blah, whatever. Uh I'll see you in the morning. But it but it doesn't leave for a lot of room, like a lot, like it just feels like they would have gone back to that house and it's gonna be like, you know, 6 p.m. And then it's like, all right, you you know damn well that these bitches are not going to bed.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, you're giving them you're giving them free alcohol.
SPEAKER_02And alcohol, correct, and a pool.
SPEAKER_00And a view.
SPEAKER_02And they're all hyped up on emotions and pheromones and like oh, there's a ton of pheromones. And I'm pretty sure they're in Hawaii, but even if they're not, they're in a fucking beautiful house in a beautiful island. I mean, my clothes would fall off.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, pretty much.
unknownYeah, and so would yours, and I'm gonna be a little bit of a lot of people.
